Welcome to Banished Quest!
You take the role of a young mage, labeled a criminal by his people and cast out into the wider world. In the lastwt thread, you got punched in the gut by a panicked woman, got poisoned by a beast of indeterminate origin, bled yourself half to death, and broke camp.

Chrys finishes stuffing the last remnants of her tent into her bag while Profectus stomps out the ashes in the fireplace. Captain Darzi and Fulvia are waiting a short distance away, talking amongst themselves. You're waiting impatiently at the edge of the central lift chamber with your arms folded in front of your chest. With camp finally broken, your companions gather before you.

“So, where are we going first?” Profectus ask. “First to the sixth floor, I believe that is where I'll find the woman I'm supposed to kill. After that we'll need to return to the shrine on the second floor. Then we may resume our journey to the lift.” He nods, and Chrys ask. “Just what are you getting out of this deal with the spirit?” You shrug your shoulders. “I'm not wholly sure. I asked for knowledge in exchange for a favor. My hope is that it won't simply grant me the knowledge that I lack knowledge because I'm doing a task for it.”

Profectus tsk disapprovingly. “I've got a bad feeling about this, Mik. Dealing with spirits always backfires, and even the natives who used to worship these things thought they were capricious.” You sigh. “Your worries are noted, Profectus, but it's not like backing out of the deal is a better alternative. I'd rather not discover what happens when I piss it off.” He holds up his hands in mock surrender. “You're right, I'm just saying it was unwise to get involved in the first place. Now, we have an AI to kill don't we?”

With that the party sets off, through the darkened corridors and empty halls of the cavernous mine. You don't get very far before Captain Darzi speaks out. “You've been stealing lanterns from the upper levels all day, right? Should we perhaps leave a trail of lanterns in our wake, so that we might easily navigate back to the surface without getting lost?”

>You doubt you have enough lanterns to pull that off, but the idea itself is good. Just scratch some graffiti into the walls and be done with it.

You glance at the lantern you'd been carrying in your hand, thinking for a moment. “You know, that is a good idea. I could probably space these out pretty far apart and still see them thanks to this armor.” Captain Darzi nods, and you set the lantern on the ground carefully. Just to be sure, you channel water magic into the control panel on your armor and your vision warps momentarily, a blue filter coloring everything. You see the lantern not as it is, but as a sort of distorted, brightly glowing ball which ambient vys seems to collapse into.

Your theory confirmed, you cut the flow of vys to your armor and your vision corrects itself. Once you reach the first stairwell down to the second level, you drop another lantern at the top and then descend. At the bottom you're greeted by the sight of some sort of hairless, horned, quadrupedal creature that vaguely reminds you of an oversized dog. It's roughly the size of a mule, though two long, almost wing-like protrusions on its back make it seem quite a bit larger. Fortunately, its head has been cleaved in half.

Chryssa speaks up once she sees it. “These things are particularly vicious, but they seem to be solitary predators. There also don't appear to be all that many in the main thoroughfares of the mine shaft. They gather at the edges of the central pillar or in the tunnels that worm their ways through the mountain.” You carefully step over its corpse, avoiding pricking yourself on any of its various claws or horns. Your companions follow suit.

It isn't long before you once again find yourself standing in the center of that dilapidated campsite. The corpses of those three plant beast you killed are still frozen, though parts of them have been freed of the ice and dangle limply. You note that the passage to the shrine is missing, instead where it should be there is merely smooth stone wall. You find that inordinately unsettling.

With a wave of your hand, the ice encasing the plant creatures melts away. They each slump to the ground lifelessly, in fact some portions of their body almost appear melted. Odd. You don't let that deter you from your goal though. You draw your dagger from your cloak and approach the three creatures, crouching down next to them and trying to figure out just how you want to go about this.

“What are you doing?” Chrys ask warily. “Extracting the poison glands from these creatures. If it's really as potent as you think it might be, we could probably use it for something.” You channel water and then poison magic into your armor's control panel, your vision tinting green and bright spots of red lighting up throughout the plant creatures' corpses.

It's an arduous task, cutting through the thick corded plant fibers that make up the creatures' bodies. You find yourself needing to really dig in there and saw away just to make any sort of progress, it's not at all precise or careful. Eventually Chrys decides to lend her strength to the task, drawing one of her own daggers from her sleeves and crouching down beside you. Seeing how effortlessly she slices through a bundle of fibers you'd spent ten minutes hacking at, you decide to instead take on an advisory role pointing out where Chrys needs to cut to get to the glands.

After about fifteen minutes, you've collected twelve foul smelling lumps of plant matter that are simply absolutely replete with with that toxic venom that nearly killed you. You stuff all twelve of them into your cloak before gesturing towards the path leading to the underground river. “Well, I hardly know left from right past this point. Chrys, Profectus, why don't you two lead the way?”
(1/2)
>>
Profectus happily marches onwards, Chryssa shrugging her shoulders and setting off at a jog to catch up. You fall back behind them, following along with Fulvia and Captain Darzi. Soon you're picking your way along the banks of the underground river, careful to avoid slipping and falling on the mold-covered cobblestones. It seems as though you're going to be on this path for quite a while, as it slopes gently downwards and there aren't exactly many paths branching off. You hang a lantern from a torch post on the wall to mark your passage.

After several minutes of walking you begin to hear thundering water, as if there were rapids or a waterfall ahead. Your suspicions are proved correct when you find the stone ledge you're walking on drops into the river, and ahead of you the river seems to fall into a black abyss. Fulvia ask. “How did you bypass this waterfall on your way down?” To which Profectus responds. “We didn't. We jumped in and rode the river down. Ended up that there's a lift just past the lip of the waterfall to carry craft down to the bottom, and we lucked out in landing smack dab in the middle of it.”

DC of 20?

For a Master?

Seems a little high for a master. Seems like this is the sort of thing that a master could do 9 times out of 10.

But we would have to roll two out of three 16s minimum.
>>
>>32021531
>>32021582
Not saying that this one is a problem but QMs often have a hard time adjusting dice DCs to player training.

They make something harder than it should be so that the MC has to struggle when it should be an easily accomplished task, they don't actually let the MC get stronger, they just scale things and increase DCs.

Just letting you know.
>>
>>32021582
Increasing your skill as a Vatis primarily increases the modifier on a roll, rather than decreasing the DC. You get a +4 to any task involving water magic. That means that ~60% of the time you'll pass a DC 20.

In conjunction with vys channeling, that means you'll practically pass the check any time you attempt it, unless you roll really poorly.

>>32021656
The modifier actually should've been +6, that was my bad. +2 from being in a very moist environment.
>>
>>32021656
We should also get a massive bonus because of us being a Master.

>>
>>32021411
I wonder if the collasped tunnel was a short cut.
>>
>>32021718
Would there be a modifier to building something out of ice when we have an open source of Water.

Rather than just materializing it out of the air?
>>
>>32021817
That's what the +2 is from, primarily. That bonus will also improve as you increase your understanding of water magic.

At Grandmaster level, I'd probably say you'd get a base +8 to any water magic, and an additional +6 when in a wet environment or with a large pool of water to draw from. With the potential that artifacts may increase that bonus further.
>>
>>32021797
No, it was probably another monster.

>>
>>32021928
Grandmasters can pull off some crazy shit.
>>
>>32021861
But didn't we have a Wet environment and a pool of water?

Or do they not stack?

And those seem like good modifiers for a Grandmaster, considering that Water is more for healing than ice manipulation.

I assume that we do/we will get a higher bonus to healing related magic?

I assume that other Grandmasters will get bonuses similar to our healing bonus rather than to our ice manipulation

Either way i vote we try to open the tunnel after killing the AI, since it can be useful as an escape route.plus i doubt a monster would collapse the tunnel.
>>
>>32021969
>a higher bonus to healing related magic?
There is no modifier actually it just heals it automatically.
If we get 3 insights we get master level healing.
>>
>>32021969
Nope, healing magic only gets the flat +8 that Grandmasters get for all water magic. Unless you have artifacts that alter that. As you improve healing magic primarily becomes cheaper, and you need to roll less and less for it. So you would really only need to roll to do things like... repair a severed spinal cord, or regenerate an arm, stuff like that.

And you do have a wet environment, I simply forgot to add that modifier to the roll when I calculated totals.

All elemental grandmasters get bonuses equitable to your water manipulation bonus. So fire vatis get huge bonuses near open flame. Earth vatis get huge bonuses everywhere. Et cetera.
>>
>>32022053
I am glad we chose to be a water vatis all those threads ago.
>>
>>32021982
But the tunnel doesn't lead anywhere we know.

>>32022005
I'm talking about difficult things like regrowing limbs and regenerating blood and shit.

Stuff that we have to roll for.

I assume that thing we don't have to roll for would have a DC lower than 3. Or just really fucking low.
>>
>>32022087
>But the tunnel doesn't lead anywhere we know.
Where do we know this?
We actually don't know where it leads to.
>>
>>32022005
>If we get 3 insights we get master level healing.
where are you getting this from?

>>32021969
>considering that Water is more for healing than ice manipulation.
While that may be some what true water magic doesn't have to be primarily for healing.

What may be cool, is to have a branch of magic we excel in once we hit grand master.
as in a grand master specalized in a niche.
we can do other things but say we pick healing we could grow back legs like new..
or focus on offensive and rain ice daggers from the sky.

It may be a bit to tricky though.
>>
>>32022075
same

>>32022053
But isn't Water magic better at healing than ice manipulation?

Or is that just in the application and not represented in the dice?

And sorry if i'm seeming nitpicky, just trying to get everything clear.
>>
You channel vys into your palms and begin carefully manipulating the water both in the river and in the air around you. Spires of ice raise themselves from the river, grounding themselves firmly in the stone below A platform of ice begins to form between the spires, stretching out until it hangs precariously over the edge of the waterfall. You step onto the platform and walk to the end, peering over the edge.

It's a bit dark to see, but you think the falls drop roughly sixty feet. It's a long fall, certainly. You craft long, triangular spikes protruding from the edge of the falls and make sure to secure them firmly to the cliff face. Then you begin creating a stairwell ahead of you as you descend towards towards the bottom of the falls. Perhaps not the safest way to do things, but certainly the most impressive, and you're good enough to pull it off.
>Vys Pool: (24/26)

Eventually you find yourself standing at the bottom of the falls, but instead of a river flanked on either side by stone walkways, you instead find yourself poised above a vast underground lake. Distantly, you see a lighthouse hanging from the ceiling of the caven, a bright red light sweeping out over the waters of the lake and illuminating the walls of the cavern. Profectus comes up behind you and claps you on the shoulder, pointing to a distant... you think it's some sort of tower.

“Now we swim. Unless you've got a clever trick up your sleeve.”

>You always do! Craft a raft and a few paddles from ice, pile everyone on and tell them to start rowing. (1 vys)

“Well, for the record I do have a clever trick that would get us past this lake without the need to dive in... but I would rather conserve my reserves for battling any sort of monsters we might face along the way.” Profectus shrugs his shoulders. “Suit yourself, but be careful in the water. Chryssa got dragged under by some sort of fish-creature. I mean, it didn't take long for her to bash its skull in but just be careful.”

You stare at him for a moment. “I'll check the water for fish monsters. I'm glad you at least told me before we dove in.” He grins, and you turn your attention to the water. Channeling some vys into your armor's control panel the walls and the water itself seem to vanish.

The platform you're standing on is shrouded in a hazy glow of vys, and the lantern in your hand appears as a blinding bright spot in your vision. The distant lighthouse hanging from the ceiling is even worse, appearing almost as bright as a small sun under the filter of your magic sight. It seems wasteful to just toss around so much raw vys for the purpose of lighting a chamber.

You see a handful of moving shapes far below the surface of the water. They seem to be paying you no mind, at least not yet. It's hard to make out just how large they are due to how dull they appear in your magic sight, but you think they might be roughly man-sized. You can see there are many, many more of them further down, but the five near the surface are the only ones you'd really need to worry about reaching you.
>>
Perhaps more curious is the throbbing, pulsating glow that appears near the bottom of the ruin. It appears almost as a rift in reality, the other side practically glowing with magical energy. Through the rift tendrils of vys creep out into the lake before dissipating into ambient vys. As a result, this is a very magic rich chamber.

“Well, we're wasting time just standing here.” You glance at your companions, all standing on the platform you created and staring at you expectantly. An idea strikes you. One minute they're standing on a platform, the next they're plunging into the frigid lakewater. Chryssa, rather uncharacteristically, lets out a surprises scream. While amusing, the look on Profectus' face was truly priceless. One would've thought you'd just stabbed him in the gut.

While they're floundering in the water you're standing pretty on a floating piece of ice. It's slightly difficult to keep it from tipping over, but not very magically draining. One by one your companions surface. Surprisingly Fulvia rises first, her projection dropped but otherwise she looks normal. She raps her metallic knuckles against her torso and a hollow sound rings out, providing you an explanation.

Next is Captain Darzi, she seems to be having a little trouble in her armor but she wasn't very heavily armored to begin with. She'll manage. When Profectus surfaces you see that his armor has deployed some sort of air-filled bags from his back, and that his armor seems to have sealed itself against water. He tries to talk, but it comes out muffled and unintelligible.

When Chryssa surfaces with a look of rage like you've never seen on your face, you decide that's a good time to dive into the water. Oddly enough her mouth and nose are sealed by some sort of glass cover. You don't properly have time to take it all in before you leap off of the ice platform you'd been floating on. You splash loudly into the water and begin to sink like a stone, but before you have an opportunity to panic your armor deploys some sort of inflatable bag from your lower back. Your momentum gradually shifts, the bag instead carrying you upwards. It isn't long before you find yourself surfacing and from then on you simply need to desperately flee an very angry, impossibly strong, horned woman.

You're perhaps two-thirds of the way across the lake when you hear a surprised shout from behind you. You stop swimming, having left Chrys quite a ways behind. She's fast, but you spent the vast majority of your teenage years in the ocean. You're a very strong swimmer. A quick headcount reveals that Profectus is missing.

You sigh, diving beneath the water You catch a brief glimpse of Profectus being dragged beneath, but then he vanishes into the darkness of the depths. He seems to have really bad luck when it comes to dealing with monsters. You begin to swim deeper, finding that your armor reacts to your intentions. That strange inflatable bag on your back sucks more water through its surface the deeper you go, but never enough that you begin to sink.

You're about to activate your magic sight to see through the gloom when the water is illuminated by a flash of light. You see Profectus in profile, incinerating some sort of... the best descriptor you can think of is a massive catfish with bipedal legs. Sharper teeth as well. Half of it seemed to have been reduced immediately to nothing while the rest drifted aimlessly through the water. You also note that his blast is continuing deeper, and deeper, and deeper into the lake. This lake seems to continue down for hundreds of feet.

You have a more pressing concern than the now roasted catfish or the vastness of the lake. Namely, the massive pressure wave surging towards you through the water. Profectus didn't seem to account for his weaponized stone arm rapidly turning water to steam and the resultant vacuum that the water would collapse into once his blast cut off. You see that Profectus is being carried up by the steam bubble, and is looking rather limp at the moment. However, if you don't get out of the way quickly you may find yourself with a collapsed lung or two.

In a split second a thick shell of ice forms around you. Not a second later you're nearly deafened by the sound of the shockwave rebounding off of the ice, and you see cracks spiderweb throughout the protective barrier. Fortunately it holds up against the onslaught and you let your impromptu shield melt away once the shockwave has passed.

You glance up, and see that the surface of the water has been disturbed, waves rushing in ever direction. Your companions are also nowhere to be seen, though you see a figure splash into the water at an awkward angle not far from you. They're not moving, a feature which bodes ill of their well being. Soon three more figures splash down heavily, the heavy thuds of their impact distorted by the water.

You pick out Fulvia easily enough, she's tucked as tightly into herself as she can manage and sparks of electricity are arcing through the water around her. You're not sure if that's a bad sign or not. Chryssa lands shortly after, you recognize her because her Elaudian Death Mask eyes are glowing brightly with vys. The last one to splash down is Captain Darzi, whom you recognize by her armor. She's not moving either, leaving the other immobile figure to be Profectus.

>Check on Profectus, he was closest to the blast and thus most likely to be injured.
>Make sure Captain Darzi is alright, Profectus had better armor to absorb the blast.

You're a star.
>>
You thrust your hands forward through the water and begin channeling vys. Swiftly a thick sheet of ice begins to spread out below your four companions, and you channel additional vys just to make sure it's sturdy enough and weighted evenly enough that it won't go tipping over as soon as it reaches the surface. When finally it's ready you release your hold on it and the platform rushes to the surface, carrying your four companions with it.
>Vys Pool: (19/26)

You kick your legs, rising swiftly to the surface and hauling yourself up onto the edge of the platform. You see Chryssa doubled over coughing up water, and Fulvia is only just beginning to uncurl herself, the battery on her back giving off enough heat that you're having trouble keeping the platform frozen beneath her. Profectus is sprawled out on his back unresponsive, and Captain Darzi is obviously unconscious on her side.

You rest your hands first on Captain Darzi, channeling water magic through her to determine her injuries. You find that three of her ribs are broken and her right lung is punctured, but it's a fairly simple fix. You don't even really need to expend any vys to heal her, merely a fraction of your total reserves. However, she also has water in her lungs, and it will be difficult to remove with magic due to the delicacy of the operation.

>Try to remove the water from her lungs magically. (1 vys)
>Do it the old fashioned way, via chest compressions and resuscitation.
>She's not worth the vys expenditure, let her die.
(1/2)
>>
You move on to Profectus once Captain Darzi has been attended to, touching a hand to his armor and channeling water magic through him. You can tell he's in much worse shape than Darzi, both of his longs are collapsed and you're pretty sure his heart has stopped. Several broken limbs, and some severe burns on his arms and legs. At least he's not experiencing a brain hemorrhage. It's going to take more than just a little water magic to bring him back from this.

>Take off his armor and heal what you can, then see if Fulvia can restart his heart. (2 vys)
>He's probably already a goner, it's not worth it.
>Write-in

Pick two, one for Darzi and one for Prof.

Does that mean she passed her DC?

Can't we restart a heart by manipulating the Blood to squeeze the heart and get it pumping again?

Or just pump his blood with our Vys and that should get it going again.

Or just see if we can manipulate his heart manually with our magic.
>>
>>32027115
You could attempt that, since you've slowed and sped up your own heartbeat, but you've both never attempted it on another person and never actually restarted a heart, so it's risky.

But yeah, she passed her DC. Companions won't be dying yet.

You carefully extract the water from her lungs. Several times you can feel blood enter her lungs as you withdraw the water too quickly or otherwise mess up, but never in large amounts. She'll heal up just fine. Eventually you pull nearly two liters of water out of her lungs and the rest she begins coughing up, once more breathing and thankfully conscious. You don't have time to stick around and be self righteous about it though, you need to save Profectus' life.
>Vys Pool: (18/26)

You quickly cross the platform to where Profecuts is laying and channel raw vys into his armor's control panel. The suit snaps open and you easily slide it off of him. You see that his arm has grown much more than normal, likely because the water more rapidly cooled the molten rock that oozes from the cracks in his arm. Other than that he's pretty beat up, the majority of his upper body seems to be one big bruise.

You heal what you can quickly. His bruises fade away, his ribs correct themselves, and his lungs repair themselves. As the bigger stuff is fixed you find that a lot of little issues escaped your notice initially. Bone fractures, organs shifted out of place. You correct those as well, though it's a fairly simple task. After all is said and done, he's as good as new but his heart still hasn't restarted. You briefly consider manually pumping his heart, but that seems like it might be dangerous. Instead you turn to Fulvia.
>Vys Pool: (16/26)
(1/2)
>>
She's only just pushed herself to her feet, and seems a little lethargic in general. You snap a few times to get her attention and motion her over. She drags her feet across the ice and slumps jerkily down to the ice next to you. “You restarted my heart after I used the spice, think you can repeat that feat with Profectus?” She takes a moment to process what you'd asked, and then wordlessly she positions her hands above his chest. You sense the vys being channeled from the massive energy source on her back into her palms, and then there's a bright flash of light as the energy is discharged.

Fulvia's battery goes dead, the energy arcing off of it vanishing. She seems to temporarily go dead, though quickly comes to life once more. Profectus himself has bolted upright screaming his head off, likely because he was dead for about a minute there. He cast a panic glance across the platform, seemingly unsure of where he is or who you are.

>Dive back in and start swimming, you need to get out of here before anything bigger than a fish-man decides to investigate.

You create a strong current beneath the platform with water magic, it's not a particularly difficult or draining task though you may need to maintain it for a while. Gradually the platform begins to move, and before long you're coasting at a steady clip over the surface of the lake. As you're approaching the tower itself, which from up close appears much larger than you'd thought it was, you begin to notice a dark, massive shape moving beneath the water. Easily twice as wide and three times as long as the platform you're standing on. Fortunately it drops away as you reach the tower, receding into the depths.

The platform bumps sharply against the base of the tower and you craft a short ramp up to the walkway to make the task of hauling a shell shocked Profectus, malfunctioning Fulvia, and weakened Captain Darzi off the platform slightly easier. Fortunately Chryssa seems to be fine, a few minor bruises but otherwise the same as ever. She assist in carring Profectus and Fulvia, and grabs Prof's armor while you help Darzi.

Once everyone is safe and sound on mostly dry land you slump back against the stone wall of the tower, looking out over the vast lake. Chryssa sits down next to you, patting you comfortingly on the shoulder. “You did well, and from here it is much easier. I swear.” You shake your head. “I find that hard to believe, but I appreciate it anyways Chrys.” She punches you in the shoulder. Hard. Without any sort of warning. Damn, but that really hurts. “That is for dumping us all in the water without warning, bastard.” You grin, healing the bruise already developing on your arm. “Worth it.”

Alright, crafting a raft and paddling/propelling it across would've reduced the ability of the fish creatures to get at you, and thus avoided anyone getting dragged under. However, if Profectus had rolled a little better on his attempts to stab it this could've been avoided and you could've reached the other side no problem. Or if someone besides Prof had been dragged under.

Crafting a bridge means the fish-men would've broken the bridge, so you'd need to spend vys to repair it or end up swimming anyway.

Swimming was basically the riskiest but also the cheapest option, I hadn't really planned on it going this badly but y'know, thems the dice.

>>32028873
Quick question if we grand master water and another element, would people be surprised?
>>
>>32029310
If you go double grandmaster you'll earn major bragging rights. Most Samjan Vatis can only expect to reach grandmaster of two or maybe three elements over the course of their entire careers. Most humans and elves will only ever reach Grandmaster of one element.
>>
>>32029310
We could probably achieve grandmaster in fire.

You're expected to go insane or kill yourself before that happens, however it's not unheard of. Most vatis that reach Grandmaster in all five elements go on to conquer vast swathes of territory and become warlords. Either that or they found monastic orders, or just live as fat, rich slobs.

“Well, I think everyone could use a break. I think I'm going to meditate and try to build up my reserves.” Chrys nods. “Very well, I shall keep watch and ensure none of those fish creatures attempt to climb up and attack us while we are weakened.” She leverages herself up with the assistance of your shoulder and wanders off to make sure Profectus and Darzi are okay. Before you assume your meditation pose, you see Fulvia detach her own arm and begin fiddling with something inside. It's mildly disturbing.

However, that doesn't prevent you from slipping into a meditative trance. You begin to gather vys into reserves and find it exceptionally easy in this environment. In fact, the energy almost forces its way into you, you have to expend effort just to stop the flow of vys. You also note that this vys feels different, somehow. More potent, more powerful. Perhaps it's merely because you're closer to a source.

From there you begin to enact your plan. You use the water from the lake to craft a number of ice warriors. It takes you a few attempts to create something that will function underwater, but eventually you settle on a design with a man-like upper body and a fish tail. Instead of hands or a weapon, you simply give them spikes at the end of their arms. After all, you don't actually intend to use these for anything but killing, and they don't need to eat. You create a good two dozen of your warriors, any more than that and you find it incredibly difficult to focus, and then send them out to do battle.
(1/2 or 3)
>>
Initially, it's very one sided. There are only a few of those fish-men near the surface and you quickly dispatch each of them, more with numbers than anything else. However, more of them swim up from below. It isn't long before you're facing a much larger force, the creatures swarming your small contingent of warriors from all sides. Rapidly, three of your creations are torn apart by the teeth of the monsters. However, you manage to send far more of them sinking to the bottom of the lake.

For several minutes the battle rages on. You lose several more soldiers, eventually sinking to a piddly twelve against a practically unending swarm of the strange fish monsters. Fortunately the more soldiers you lose, the better you are at controlling the ones that remain. After all, few people are capable of equally splitting their perception between twenty four viewpoints and performing a task with anything approaching competence. Twelve is a much more manageable, if still challenging, number.

The tide begins to turn, with each of your dozen or so vatis taking out tens of fish men before being picked apart. You're down to only three warriors when the surviving monsters finally scatter. You're about to pursue them when one of your troops is swallowed whole by some massive creature. The other two are quickly snuffed out by something smashing them apart. You're forced out of your meditation after that, but you really think you learned a lot about multitasking.

You push yourself up, and see that the lake has been stained red with the blood of those fish beast, innumerable corpses floating upon the water. Other fish monsters are feasting upon the corpses of their fallen brethren. Chryssa is staring on with a mildly amused look, where as Captain Darzi looks on horrified, though at least she's doing better. Fulvia seems to have repaired herself and is walking normally again. Profectus still seems pretty out of it. He's shaking.

>>32029647
I forget, did we ever ask Fulvia about Metal? She uses it right? Though I wouldn't be surprised if it was simple hardwired into her frame or something.
>>
>>32029669
It's not really that anyone hordes information or anything, it's just that information isn't out there. Reading a metal book will basically start you off on the right path, but you'll need to either plunder Rhynian ruins for accurate and comprehensive books or experiment and come up with it as you go.

>>32029686
Fulvia is a Master of Metal Magic, though the information is simply written into her being. She doesn't actually know it.

Metal is increasing and decreasing the strength of armors and such correct?
mental fortitude.

We could go about this in at least two ways.
wreaking trash weapons we picked up from bandits and playing with them. twisting and bending them into shapes and such.

Having one of our colleages try talking to us during our meditation. and we try and focus on completely blocking out that persons words during our meditation. Trying to block certain information from entering our mind.
sounds like a good place to start. And in a place like this we could do this. and try to spend a shit ton of vys to over power the artifact.
we may not be able to do this * the mental one* out side of here due to the strain it may cause if we're not by such a potent source.

You approach Prof where he's seated on the walkway. You sit down next to him, clapping him companionably on the shoulder. “How are you holding up, now that you've died? I know I was a little shaken up after I died.” He laughs harshly, cutting it off quickly and then shakes his head. “Gods above, we're a weird bunch aren't we? Die and keep on walking around. I'm a thousand some-odd years old. You're certifiably insane. Fulvia's a construct. Chryssa is some sort of incredibly strong artificial person...or something. I don't actually know.”

You shrug your shoulders. “We're a little odd, but at least we accomplish things other than farming dirt and drinking ourselves to death. I think maybe you have to be weird to do anything worthwhile.” He sighs. “I don't know, I've just been thinking maybe I'd be better off normal. Take a cut from what we make and then buy a farm somewhere. Enjoy a simple life. Either that or just... focus on meditating for a while. I need to improve if I'm going to survive.” You grin. “Don't go abandoning the life of adventure just yet. As soon as we get out of this ruin all we're going to be doing is relaxing in a temple so I can work on mastering water magic. I'll have plenty of time to teach you and Chrys how to be proper vatis.”

Profectus grumbles. “If we get out of this ruin. Place is infested with all manner of beast. Hell I had to hack the head off of bug larger than I am. Saw Chrys tear a demon in half. Now that we're traveling as a group though they seem more vicious than ever.” You clap him on the shoulder, pushing yourself up. “Don't be so defeatist, Profectus! Your name means success, doesn't it? We'll be fine so long as we keep our wits about us and stay calm.” You hold out your hand and help him up, he seems to be feeling quite a bit better, though he still looks a tad weak. He's also having a lot of trouble moving his stone arm.

She marches off towards the tower and shoves the door open rather effortlessly. Inside is a staircase leading both up and down, but she simply takes the path down.

Meditation isn't a sliding scale like most other checks are. It's a binary pass/fail. So getting three successes is no different from getting two successes, and barely meeting the DC is no different from exceeding the DC by leaps and bounds.

The exception I'll make is for natural 30s. I might, maybe, possibly do something special for a natural 30, if the roll was otherwise a success.
