Welcome to Banished Quest!
You take the role of a young mage, labeled a criminal by his people and cast out into the wider world. In the last thread, you went for a swim, got attacked by fishmen, saved two of your companion's lives, and then relaxed outside of an ancient, sunken tower.

You can definitely hear screaming. You don't think it's either pained or fearful screaming though. There is a rhyme and reason to it. Almost like someone was trying to communicate through incoherent shouting. Why they can't just speak like normal people, you're not sure.

That's not the weird part though. The weird part is that nobody says anything about it. Nobody seems to show any sign of finding it odd, or even of noticing it. Initially you keep it to yourself, since nobody else is bringing it up, but after climbing down this infernal stairwell for several minutes you just can't take it anymore. “Gods above, please tell me somebody else is hearing that screaming! I'm too young to be going insane...”

Chrys glances over her shoulder, quirking an eyebrow skeptically. Profectus slowly shakes his head. Darzi simply ask. “What screaming?” To which you respond. “The screaming! It's been going on ever since we stepped into the tower, getting louder the further down we go!” Profectus gently places a hand on your shoulder. “Easy there, Mik. No need to shout. You're probably just hearing things.”

>No, you're definitely hearing screaming. Try to figure out the source.
>It sort of reminds you of Ricky's screeching. Maybe he's trying to talk to you? Shove your head in the cloak.
>It's obviously coming from the end of the stairwell, just try and endure it until then.

You hold up your hands, motioning for everyone to stop walking. “Alright, alright. Just... hang on a second. I have a hypothesis regarding this screeching.” Your companions wait expectantly for you to continue. “Since I'm the only one who can hear it, it means I'm either crazy, or Ricky is trying to tell me something.” Chrys ask. “Is Ricky not the creature dwelling within your cloak? It can talk?” You nod your head. “Yes, he can sort of talk. Listen, that's not important right now. Just wait for a moment while I consult with him.”

You whip off your cloak, draping it over your head, and then summarily push down upon the top of the cloak, your head sinking inside. To all appearances, it looks as though you just decapitated yourself. The gloom within your cloak is pierced by Ricky's glowing torso, and you see him sitting primly in a old dinged-up chair in front of a round wooden table. Arranged about the inside of the cloak are all manner of shelves, chest, crates, racks, boxes, and bags. The vast majority are stuffed full with your numerous possessions, and all of them are neatly and efficiently organized.

Ricky's face has split open and his beak pushed itself out. It's open, and letting out a truly hellish shriek. Of course there's no actual sound, but you feel it echoing through your mind, a migraine flaring up almost as soon as your head enters the cloak. You're not sure what in Surya's accursed name is wrong. He looks fine, nothing is missing.

You're about to ask for a pen, inkwell, and piece of paper but before the idea has even properly crystallized in your mind you see three of the tentacles that branch off of Ricky's back rapidly extend towards three different corners of the room. The paper is placed neatly in front of you on the flat plane that serves as this realm's floor, and the pen and inkwell are placed gently adjacent.

Alright, how are you supposed to get your message across here? The screeching is making it a tad hard to think. Pictures! You should doodle, that will probably be more easily understood than words. Then again, he doesn't exactly have eyes... that you can see. It's still your best bet though. You start off with a little doodle of Ricky dipping a pen in ink with his tentacle, then another doodle of him scribbling on paper. They're crude drawings, not much better than stick figures really, but maybe it will work. You push the paper away from you, and Ricky picks it up. Your lungs are starting to ache but as a Water Vatis you've got pretty good lung capacity. You should be able to stick around for maybe a minute or two more.

Ricky's beak snaps shut and slides away, the opening in his face that conceals his beak slowly sealing itself shut as Ricky looks over the drawing. Eventually he flips the paper over and picks up the pen, beginning to scribble. After a short while he passes the paper back to you. Drawn on the paper is... well you're not really sure what you're looking at here. It's skeletal, and seems to be covered partially in some sort of black ichor. It also appears to be wearing a red scarf, and there is plantlife and mold growing all over it.

Here it is, the dream.
You dream of the sun god, Surya, looking down at you disdainfully from on high. He reaches across the great distance and stabs his finger roughly into your shoulder, the flesh seared where he touches. When he speaks, it is a language you've never heard before.
“Γεια σου; καμήλα πόρνη;”
He slaps you in the back of the head, sending you falling forward. The ground gives way and you tumble through blackness. As Surya grows ever more distant, his voice booms forth once more in that strange tongue.
“Μιλάτε νότιο; Γιατί κοιμάσαι σε ένα παλιό φρούριο;”
As you think you're about to hit whatever serves for the ground in this plane of endless blackness, you jolt awake. Someone is prodding you in the back. They haven't killed you yet, so they're probably not a bandit. You're also laying on your left side, obscuring the brand on your cheek. They might not realize you're one of the Aghtaki.

> Until the god Pani stabs Surya in the throat, releasing Vys into the world. Your people use Vys to battle Surya, and though many die, eventually the sun god is shackled to the will of the Shah. To direct against the enemies of your people, so long as he is placated with sacrifices.
>>
>>32087138
>camel whore
Surya don't like us.
>>
You can't puzzle out much just from a drawing of a monster, you need more information. Otherwise you'll just be paranoid. You try thinking in Ricky's general direction, a task more difficult than it sounds, to see if you can get any sort of reaction. {Ricky!} He quirks his head to the side, a good sign. Unfortunately no reaction otherwise. You try to focus on the concepts of time, distance, amount, and the image. However, you're starting to feel a little lightheaded. You can't stay in here much longer.

What you get back is screeching, intermixed with flashes of incoherent gibbering and the occasional incomprehensible image. Come to think of it, Ricky probably has no concept of time, and only a loose grasp on distance. There is nothing to mark the passage of one moment to another and the only distances are how far Ricky has to reach to grab something. However, amount is something Ricky knows well. He shoves forward seven tentacles.

After that you're forced to withdraw your head from the cloak, thrusting yourself once more back into the real world. You rest your hands on your knees and take deep breaths, letting your cloak slide off of you and onto the floor. Once you've recovered you snatch it up and drape it over your shoulders once more, fastening it in place with your brooch.

Your companions have all taken several steps away from you, staring at you as if you were some sort of serial killer or mad man. You hold up the picture Ricky gave you. “I think he was trying to tell me that there are seven of these, somewhere up ahead.” You pass the image to Chrys, who passes it to Fulvia, and then to Prof, and finally Captain Darzi. While the paper is going around, Chryssa ask. “What is it? Some sort of risen corpse, or an experiment of some kind?”

You shrug your shoulders. “I'm not sure, it was merely the picture he drew for me. I couldn't get much else out of him.” Once everyone has seen the image, you tuck it into your cloak and the party once more begins its descent.

With Chryssa leading the way, you drop back to the very end of the line, where Fulvia is bringing up the rear of the column. She doesn't say anything when you approach, and you note that her projection is still down. Instead of the idolized and perfected image of a human woman she's simply a metal shell, vaguely feminine, with a massive bulb hanging from her back that houses the battery which keeps her going.

“How are you feeling? I noted that you were very... twitchy, after the explosion.” She shrugs her shoulders. “I am fine. Energy reserves are slowly returning to acceptable levels. Damaged wires have been bypassed to return my limbs to full operational capability.” Her voice is markedly more tinny and inhuman than it usually is, but it's probably simply a result of her depleted reserves.

You decide to skip the smalltalk and get to the reason you're speaking with her. “How do you feel about killing another AI? I mean, I'm assuming it's an AI. The description I was given seemed to fit an AI.” She cocks her head to the side, thinking for a moment. “I am indifferent. This construct is likely corrupted past the point of usefulness. Deactivation followed by summary destruction would be a mercy. However, should we discover that this construct is still salvageable my stance may change.”

>Good, you were going to need to reconsider your deal anyway if the AI proved serviceable.

That may cause some tension later, but you're content to just hope the AI is corrupted beyond the point of usefulness. It seems like a pretty safe bet that it will be. For now, you step pick up the pace to catch up to Captain Darzi, who's walking between Profectus and Fulvia, but quite distant from both of them. She glances at you as you approach and then returns to keeping her eyes locked forward. You note that she's breathing heavily, like she's exhausted from only walking down the stairs. Probably a result of you wrenching the water from her lungs with magic.

You're still irritated with her, but you doubt it shows. “How are you holding up?” She rubs her shoulder, a nervous tick probably. “I am fine. My chest hurts, but I will live.” You channel some vys into your palm, placing it gently on her shoulder. She tenses up, but relaxes when she realizes you're merely healing her. “That was my fault, I was a little rushed pulling the water from your lungs earlier. Apologies.”

She takes a deep breath once you've finished, and then sighs in relief. “Thank you, and... I apologize for panicking. Earlier that is, when those plant creatures were looking for us. What I did was uncalled for, and I should have had a tighter grip on my emotions, and lashing out at you was uncalled for.” She looks at you, a determined look set on her face. “It won't happen again.”

The atmosphere in the stairwell has shifted. The air is much more moist, and the ground is slightly wet. You see pools of water here and there, and water seeps from the stones. Patches of moss and mold have sprouted up everywhere. You must be pretty far below the water line, and likely close to the end of this stairwell.

“Apology accepted, after all I managed to kill the beast and get back safely. Even if I had to slit my own throat to do it.” You think for a moment about being cheeky and asking for another apology, after all you saved her life not an hour ago, but you decide it would be best to leave it for now. You don't have much of an opportunity to speak further with the Captain before the party halts.

You work your way to the front of the line to see what's wrong, slipping past Profectus and Fulvia to see that the path further down is flooded completely. It has been for a long while too. Odd, seemingly gelatinous polyps hang down from the ceiling into the water, and branch up from the floor as well in several places. They range from looking like giant wads of snot to looking like some form of coral. You're not really sure what they truly are though.

Chrys says. “Last time we simply swam through, it does not go very far before the bottom of the stairwell where there is once more dry land. However, those things will try to attach themselves to anything that gets too close. Profectus very nearly had one seal itself over his mouth. We're not sure what they do if they actually attach themselves to someone.”

You reach into your cloak, withdrawing the nature staff. You point it in the general direction of the gelatinous polyps and channel some vys into it. Rather than controlling the polyps themselves, you simply cause the plant life around them to grow and entangle the polyps. Useful, maybe, but not what you really wanted. Perhaps the polyps aren't plants, but some form of odd animal?

You slide the staff back into your cloak, and then clap your hands together. “Alright, I'm going to part the waters so that we may walk through. Que up behind me.” Your companions do as you asked, and while channeling vys into your hands you spread your arms wide. The water practically jumps to respond, flushing itself against the walls of the stairwell and allow you safe, and remarkably dry, passage through the stairwell.

Several of the polyps fell free of their moors once removed from the water, and you watch them squirm their way towards the walls as you pick your way past. Several others crane themselves towards you, trying to touch you, but you avoid them. It's a simple task since you don't have to swim through.

Keeping the water parted proves a more draining task than you anticipated, but eventually you get back to dry land and release your hold. The water rushes to fill the space it had previously occupied, crashing to the stone loudly behind you. You set a magical lantern down here and withdraw another from your cloak, before casting your magic sight around the ruin to make sure your plan is working as you thought it would.

You can distantly spot the first lantern you placed, far above. You can also easily see the lantern you left at the top of the waterfall which feeds that underground lake. The one in your hand and the one just adjacent to you are of course bright in your vision. You cut the flow of vys to your armor's control panel and your vision returns to normal.

This part of the ruin is cold, damp, and gloomy. The only light available is the light from your lantern, and all it seems to accomplish is making the area at the edge of your light seem darker and more foreboding. You've got a really bad feeling about this floor, but Chryssa simply takes the lantern from your hands and marches on undeterred. You follow along with the rest of your companions.

As you walk, Profectus quietly mentions. “This floor was where we first met wandering spirits, or as Chrys prefers to think escaped Rhynian experiments. They looked like little blue balls of fire floating through the air. Until you got close, then they twisted themselves into the image of ghostly archers. Only thing that could hurt them were my sword and Chryssa's mace, so we think you can only hurt them with magic.”

However, for all his warnings the trip through this floor goes smoothly. Chrys seems to know exactly where she's going and she navigates the hall expertly. You pass by several branching paths and doorways, but she ignores each of them. Finally you reach another stairwell and descend another level. Fortunately this stairwell is much shorter than the last, and you find yourselves spit out onto level four after only a few flights.

“So what should we look out for on this level?” Captain Darzi ask, a curious tone to her voice. Profectus shrugs his shoulders. “Not sure, we didn't face any monsters. There was a huge storeroom just up ahead though. Filled to the brim with boxes and chest and coffers. We passed it by last time, but with everyone here it might be worth looking at.

“Chrys, how about we take a short detour to check out that storeroom?” She responds coldly with. “Would it not be best to simply focus on the task at hand?” To which you respond. “A brief distraction won't cause any trouble. Lets just check it out, scan through for any valuables, and then be on our way. We pass through it anyway, don't we?” She responds with a sigh. “Not if we'd followed the route I'd planned, but it will not require us to stray far from the path. I'll lead you there.”

She leads you through the halls for a few hundred feet, taking several turns before pausing. She motions for everyone to stop, and you quickly follow orders. You whisper. “What's wrong? Something up ahead?” To which she responds only after a long pause. “Heard something. Sounded like scraping from up ahead.” You glance past her, at the long hallway seemingly without end, fading away into darkness rather than turning out of sight.

“What's up ahead?” You ask. “The store room, we left the path towards the stairwell down several turns ago.” You curse under your breath. Something stands between you and your loot! This simply will not do.

>Try to sneak forward and get a look at it. You don't ant to rush into anything blind.

You pull your cloak tighter around yourself. “Wait here, I'll check it out. If you hear my cursing the gods or calling out for my mother come investigate.” She nods. Profectus cheerily says. “We'll be sure to run away as quickly as we can, Mik.” You leave on that note, fading into incorporeality the second you step out of the light cast by the lantern Chryssa carries.

You pad silently along the stone hallway, eyes slowly adjusting to the gloom. Eventually you begin to hear the sound that Chrys described. A constant scraping of what sounds like stone against stone. You also notice a dim glow from up ahead. Almost like the glow of another lantern, though not as bright. The scraping is drawing closer, so you decide to stick to peeking around the corner so as to avoid being exposed by the glow if you get too close.

What rounds the corner is a huge beast. Its head nearly scrapes the ceiling, and it drags with it along the floor a massive pincer. Its other hand appears relatively normal, but it has two additional arms growing from its chest which it keeps tucked tightly to its body. Perhaps most worrying is that the monster appears largely hollow. Its chest is split open and resembles some giant maw, from within which golden light glows. A long ridge runs from its head all the way down its back into a stubby tail, and this two is split open down the middle to reveal its glowing innards. Even its eyes and mouth seem to merely be holes bored in its outer shell.

{So, listen. I've found a massive monster. This thing is easily twelve feet tall. It seems to be mostly rent in half and glowing from the inside, I'm pretty sure it's actually hollow or something.} There's a pause, before Chrys ask. {So what are you going to do?} To which you promptly respond. {I'm going to attack it. Just stick back for now.} You cut off the connection before they have the opportunity to rag on you for being 'reckless' or 'impulsive' or whatever else they take issue with.

You begin channeling vys for a leech spell, and as soon as you do so the monster turns its head to look directly at you. Its mouth begins to open wider and wider, until you're not even entirely sure how the hell this creature is able to pull its mouth that far apart. You channel more vys into the spell to ensure that it goes through, and then you snap it off just as the beast unleashes a howl unlike anything else you'd ever heard. The walls shake, the ground quakes, you feel your eardrums burst.

Fortunately none of that gets in the way of your spell, and the hollowed out tendril of vys slides right past the jagged ribcage of the monster into its glowing core. Rather than the flood of energy you'd been expecting, you feel the spell beginning to unravel as it hits the beast. You actually have to focus your attention on drawing power from its core, which seems to cause magic to degrade into the raw vys that it's composed of. You're still making progress though, even if it isn't great progress.

You draw your spear and brace it against the uneven stone ground. Once you're confident it's secure, you crouch down and prepare yourself to receive the beast's charge. It slams into your spear and is impaled through the very center, the two long protrusions to either side of the blade preventing the spear from just puncturing but not actually slowing down the beast. As it is, it's trapped so long as you keep your grip on the spear.

However, it can also reach you. That massive claw at the end of its left arm swings down and clamps down firmly across your torso, scoring deep gashes in your armor. It begins to squeeze, tighter and tighter, and you feel a little short of breath as your armor begins to bend under the force applied by the monster's immense strength. You fear that at this rate you'll be crushed by this beast before you manage to kill it.

Its other arm grabs hold of your spear and attempts to wrench it from your grasp, you very nearly lose your grip, but you channel vys into your arms to enhance your strength. It struggles futilely to pull the spear from your hands but with your vice-like grip you manage to maintain it just fine. Some small silver lining, to being trapped between the massive claws of a Rhynian construct. Another bit of good news is that your leeching spell is still active, and you've recouped half the vys you spent reinforcing your grip.

You channel earth magic into your armor's control panel, the palm of your hand beginning to subtly vibrate as you bring it towards the pincer arm currently trying to pop you like an oversized zit. It's making progress too. You feel your armor beginning to give faster and faster, cracks spreading throughout as you feel your ribs being compressed. Much more of this and you probably won't be able to breathe, let alone fight.
(Armor Status: Damaged. Provides only +3 instead of the full +5 bonus to rolls to soak damage)

You press your hand to the arm and it cuts through like butter. You're actually surprised, and nearly end up pushing past the arm after it's already been severed and pressing your hand into your own arm. Fortunately you avoid that fate, cutting off the flow of vys before it touches your arm. You perhaps channeled more vys than you'd intended, but that worked out more in your favor than anything else.
>Vys Pool: (25/26)

>Enemy Turn
>Enemies Remaining: 1x Antimage Construct (Wounded)

Almost as soon as the pincer has relaxed itself and slumped to the floor, it starts to lose cohesion. It returns to the element it was originally crafted from, a fine sand mixed with clay. The monster probably roars louder or something, you can actually feel the pressure on your ears, but you still can't hear anything. Just a high pitched ringing, it's rather annoying. You see the beast lurch forward, it looks as if it's going to try and swallow your head whole. You'd forgotten that its mouth can open impossibly wide.

>Drop your spear, roll away. You'll lose your weapon but you'll almost certainly get away.

You shove your arm forward to meet the beast, channeling earth magic through your armor. You feel your hand pass through the back of it's head and even past it's spine before the mouth clamps shut. Its teeth tear through the chainmail that covers your limbs without much trouble and pain shoots up your arm as it bites into your flesh. It latches on tightly, beginning to shake its head back and forth even as your hand flails about, destroying everything in its path.

Eventually the head falls off, you've completely obliterated any sort of link it had to the torso, and though weakened it doesn't show signs of dying any time soon. Your left arm is fairly useless now, largely shredded and several tendons torn. You've never been so glad to be a water vatis. If you couldn't heal yourself this would be permanent damage, you might never regain full function of that arm. As is, for the cost of a little vys you'll be as good as new. Won't even have any scarring.

The pain is just terribly distracting though, and you can't maintain your leeching spell. You feel it start to get away from you, the beast apparently countering it. You cut the spell off quickly, but you're still slightly drained as a result. You're really starting to hate this thing. You'd hate to imagine what fighting several of these would be like.
>Vys Pool: (24/26)

>Ally Turn
>Enemies Remaining: 1x Antimage Construct (Severely Wounded)

You're on your last legs. Though your reserves are full, your body is pretty badly damaged. One arm is useless and the other is struggling to keep a grip on your spear, while the monster continues to thrash on the end of it. Your ears are bleeding and you're deafened. Your entire torso aches, and you think a rib might be fractured. Not to mention it's hard to breath with your armor partially crushed like this. Much more and you might not make it.
(1/2)
>>
However, your opponent isn't doing so hot either. Its head is gone, its arm is gone, and it's impaled on the end of a spear. Not to mention that light in its core is looking a whole lot dimmer now than when you started this little endeavor. You'll need to decide whether or not you want to finish this thing off or heal yourself before you pass out.

You channel water magic throughout yourself, feeling your wounds beginning to mend. First your bruises fade, then your ribs cease aching. You're still short of breath, because your armor is still warped, but you'll manage. Finally your arm begins to repair itself. Tendons reconnect, muscles wind themselves together, and cuts knit themselves closed. It isn't long before you once more have full range of motion. The last things to mend themselves are your burst eardrums, though once they do you're glad you destroyed the thing's head. That howling stopped, though you swear you can still hear distant echoes from further up.

>Enemy Turn

Just as you're breathing a sigh of relief, that monsters arm that until now had been grasping your spear shoots towards your chin in an uppercut, while at the same time those two extra limbs folded into its chest lash out at you. Yes, if there is a core, you could totally use it to improve a golem you make. You could also sell it for an exorbitant amount.

Well here is hoping we don't damage its core too much.
>>
It takes only a moment for a barrier of ice to erect itself between you and the creature. It raises from the floor, leaves a small hole for your spear, and then curves up and over your body in a sort of half-domed formation. You reinforce it in several places, touching it up and having spikes of ice from bridging the half-dome and the ground. By the time the fist finally impacts your shield you've made quite the little fortress. It cracks only slightly as the monster hits it, and the smaller arms scrabble at it uselessly. You have room to breathe for a moment.

>Ally Turn
>Enemies Remaining: 1x Antimage Construct (Severely Wounded)

You could probably just leave your spear here, supported by the ice, and walk around to finish it off now. It's weakened, and doesn't seem all that smart. Plus it's not trying to wrench your spear out of your grasp anymore. You could also call in your friends to finish this thing off, or have your armor repair itself. You can't help but find it funny that, after taking such a beating, if you wanted to you could just waltz out apparently unscathed.

You think that howling you heard earlier wasn't actually just an echo, because you can still hear it, and it's getting louder. You may want to finish this thing off soon, before its friends get here.

>Call in your friends to finish it off.
>Repair your armor, you have a little time.
>Leave your spear here, walk around to finish it off with a massive spear of ice through the hole in its neck.
>Channel a blast of fire through your spear, that way you don't really have to move.

You tentatively let go of your spear, and find that the monster does not immediately rip itself free and charge around the barrier to attack you. Slowly, you creep around the barrier to stand adjacent the creature as it thrashes away at the barrier. It shows no sign of noticing you. Only when you begin to form a massive spear of ice over its torn open neck does it stop thrashing at the barrier and return its attention to you. By then it's too late, you drive the spear of ice down and into its torso, shattering the hollow shell that made up its body.

Amidst the rubble that was once the construct, there is a single gem. Roughly the size of an apple. It's yellow in color and glows dimly, swirling bits of black throughout it. Fulvia would likely be the person to ask about what the hell it is, but you scoop it up and shove it into your cloak regardless. You don't really have time to study it with this bastard's friends bearing down on you.
>1x Antimage Core (Corrupted) Gained

Judging by the howling, five other constructs similar to this one are rushing your way, and they're getting uncomfortably close. You may want to flee the scene, and frankly, collapsing this tunnel seems like a good idea right about now. However, you doubt you could pull that off alone. At least in any reasonable frame of time.

>Go get the others, collapse this tunnel behind you, you can live without looting a storeroom.
>Go get your companions and prepare to face the enemy. Surely the five of you can take on five of these bastards and win.
>Just run away, quickly, before they get here. They seem to only be able to sense magic, so if you can just get to the stairwell down without casting any spells you'll be fine.

Yeah, but we nearly died. Profectus could probably one-shot one of them and then he'd die like a bitch. Chryssa might be able to beat the shit out of one or two. Captain Darzi would get her shit pushed in though, and who knows with Fulvia.

Easily use our gun to throw in that massive damage. prof doing his lava shot and have chy and Fulvia as back up.

>>
>>32094074
I know that but not all our companions have magical power Armour and water magic. They barely scratched the surface of their magics beside fulvia and even then I think she's still limited.
>>
Aha! I have another idea! The core and heart radiates Vys, correct? It's about time that heart became useful! Set a trap using either to lure the Anti-Magic monsters into a group, and have Fulvia, Profectus, and ourselves unleash ALL THE DAKA!
>>
So wouldn't these guys get attracted towards the lanterns?
>>
>>32094202
You mean torches, and probably yeah they could.
>>
You channel some vys into your armor, so that you can actually breath normally. The rents in the chainmail mend themselves, the dents in the armor pop out, and the pressure on your chest is relieved in only a short while. It never ceases to amaze you how well this armor was made. While it repairs itself you begin to skulk off back towards your companions, though skulking quickly turns into sprinting as the howling gets louder. In the end you just shoot past them, and they seem to get the message. They come running after you.

Chryssa overtakes you with ease, seriously that girl can run, and you follow her through the twisting hallways. You're a little surprised that nobody asked you any questions about your sudden eagerness to abandon treasure, or tried to stop you from running, or really acted like this was anything but normal. Save Captain Darzi of course, who is terribly confused but seems smart enough to go with the flow.

Eventually you reach the stairwell down. It's an old, dingy thing. Made of wood, rather than stone. You can only assume that this was some sort of temporary patch that ended up becoming permanent after the mine was abandoned. Everyone has stopped to catch their breath, save Chryssa, who isn't even breathing heavily. You should really ask just what she's capable of someday. Profectus is finally the one to ask. “What happened? One minute you're all bluster and confidence, the next you're sprinting past us and there is some sort of animal howling from the hallway you left.” Captain Darzi nods. “I too would like to know, that screech nearly deafened me!”

I hope the next time we discover some new type of eldritch horror, instead of leeching the hell out of it right of the bat; we'll take the time to STUDY it within the safety of our invisibilty cloack.
>>
>>32094556
we did study it.
We found out that they are anti-mage, they are attracted to magic, they have a core that nullifies magic, they have basic intellect(could improve if in a group, don't know yet), they regenerate slowly, their biggest weakness is their core, they are screamers, they can be surprisingly fast for their size, and travel in packs.
>>
You withdraw the core from your cloak, holding it up into the air so they can see it. “I faced some sort of magic-eating construct. It was massive, twelve feet tall, and had a pincer at the end of one of its arms. It was a tough fight, but in the end I came out on top.” Profectus asks. “So why were you running away if you won?” You shrug your shoulders. “Because its howling attracted others, and just one of them nearly killed me. I didn't think the five of us could kill five of them.”

Fulvia snatches the core out of your hands and exams it. She seems rather uncharacteristically eager. “That was an Antimage Construct you encountered. Antimages were always quite violent, and very hard to control. Is this the core you retrieved from its body?” You nod your head, and she smiles. “Good, it is undamaged. If you would allow me to at a later date I could purge this of the corruption that fills it and you may be able to recreate a construct similar to the one you faced. Slaved to me, of course. Constructs don't truly function without the guiding hand of an AI.”

Chryssa interrupts. “We're wasting time. Lets keep going. We're almost to that Rhynian Facility I mentioned.” With that, she sets off down the stairs. You have little choice but to follow her. Once more you're relieved that this stairwell is only a few flights, and you're spit out in the middle of a long hallway. You set off left, as the spirit had ordered you, and it isn't long before you find yourself standing in front of a solid metal door with a small device attached to the wall next to it. You've arrived, now you just need to complete your task.

>Aaaand end thread. Sticking around briefl for Q&A.
>>
>>32094621
Right, after going attacking it tho. which just nullified our cloaking.
Maybe we could have found out half of that without engaging a fight.
>>
>>32094621
We should put off any attempts to purify the core until we learn Manipulate. Then we can sit down with Fulvia and our magic vision and study it.
>>

Kill the AI they're slaved to and we can grab the lot without risk?
>>
>>32094764
which is why we should read the golem book instead, and make them slaved to us before she does it behind our back.
>>
>>32094791
I think they aren't slaved to anyone right now, hence the "just attack everyone that isn't one of us" attitude
>>
>>32094743
Ehh, probably not. The determining factor was whether or not you called your friends to help. Calling them into the fight would've made it much, much quicker.

>>32094737
>Tattoos to enhance magic.
If the ink was enchanted, yes. Finding enchanted ink will be no simple task. Actually, ink infused with spice would also enhance your magic.

>>32094777
The pistol would've just punched holes in it. The supercharged pistol would've blown them to pieces.

>>32094791
Maybe. When you pulled Fulvia out of the Core Room in the first Rhynian Facility you explored, all the cores in all of the constructs slaved to her were damaged beyond use. You're not sure if they were already damaged or if they were damaged to begin with though.
>>
>>32094678
So this means, if we're very careful about this (and assuming we acquire more tools in this facility), that we could get a squad of 6 anti-magic constructs.

Stored in our cloak, that could be an excellent tactic.
>>
>>32094859
+small tactics, we just need to make them loyal to us, and not the AI.

While appealing this would probably be a huge task of Fulvias systems. Hopefully through some manipulate, permancy, and metal magic we could probably link a few to us as well as some regualr golems.
This is me assuming they would get the small unit tactics bonus + we could probably customize their loadouts more than the antimagic golems
