You awaken from your night’s rest, refreshed after the events of yesterday. Lady Shabboneau said you would be leaving tomorrow, which means you have one more day before you depart. After a rather luxurious breakfast, you consider what you want to do with your day.

>Go pick up the armor you ordered for Riolu and yourself
>Find a jeweler to do something about the sunstone you found
>Go tell the captain and tell him you’ll be travelling home yourself
>Head to the market and buy some general goods (specify)
>Other

You also wonder if you want to invite anyone along with you.

>Lisa would be up for it, although it’d be difficult to keep the sunstone a surprise
>Lady Shabboneau might want to join you, but she might have her own plans for today
>You and Squire Richard haven’t had a chance to speak, maybe this would be a good opportunity

If we're making Lisa jewelry then it should be a surprise. Taking Lisa isn't really an option but having a woman opinion would be a good idea.

Is there any reason we wouldn't be able to just do everything?

You wait for breakfast to conclude before approaching Lady Shabboneau. While you want Lisa to come, it might be difficult to keep the necklace secret from her.

"I was planning on spending today out on the town," you begin, "There's still some business I need to take care of. Would either of you ladies care to join me?"
"I too had some business to take care of," Lady Shabboneau adds, "I see no issues with the two of us going together. Shall we invite the others as well?"

"I'd rather we not," you whisper, "I'm getting a surprise gift for Lisa."

"What is the occasion?" she inquires, "I might need to give her something myself."

"Hey," Lisa interrupts, "Are we headed off to town?"

You pause, you're not sure if she overheard your conversation up until this point. You don't think she did, but either way you'll need to think of an excuse to leave without her.

"We-"

"We were going into town to further discuss the details of our business arrangement," Lady Shabboneau answers before you, "You can come along if you want, although unless you enjoy paperwork I can't say it will be a very good time."

Lisa ponders the idea for a bit before answering. You notice that Richard has worked his way over to your conversation as well.

"That's fine," she says, "I'll find something more fun to do."

"Well, in that case," Richard remarks, "I'm gonna head off my own way, I still needed to take care of some business myself."

"I'll see you later, Ciel!" Lisa smiles.

All of you soon depart, heading your separate ways. After a brief stop by the dock to inform the captain of the situation, you head over to the market to take care of your business. The first stop is to get your armor. You manage to don your piece easily enough, though it's a bit of a struggle to get Riolu into his piece. He keeps squirming even after you get it on, and it seems he's having trouble adjusting. Hopefully he'll get more used to the feeling.

Afterwards, you head over to the jewelers you saw the other day. Lady Shabboneau heads off to look at the displays, while you try to find the necklace Lisa was looking at before. You manage to find it, and the price is the same as before.

>Sunstone necklace-100p

You have enough funds to buy the necklace itself, although you're unsure of what to do with the sunstone you found.

>Try and sell the sunstone you found, buy the necklace

We have plenty of money right now.

And, how big is the sun stone?

The sunstone you found was a full one. All 8 points, about the size of your hand.

The necklace itself is smaller. Only one of the points, cut and shaped to fit into a pendant.

You call the jeweler over to purchase the necklace.

>Current funds: 485p

The necklace comes with a fairly unassuming box, which you carefully place in one of your larger pouches. After thanking the man, you start waiting around for Lady Shabboneau, although it seems she has already made a purchase.

"Ah, I trust you found what you were looking for?" she says with a smirk, "I can't say I would've picked that one, but I suppose it would suit her fairly well. Also, would you mind terribly carrying my purchase for me?"

"Certainly." Seeing as how her dress lacked any pockets, it would be rather rude to make her carry it herself. The two of you then depart from the store?

"Was there anywhere else you had planned on going?" she asks.

Well...
>There was something else you wanted to buy (specify)

"Well, there wasn't really anywhere else I had planned on going," you reply, "Was there something you had in mind?"

"I'm glad you asked," she smiles, "I heard of the most darling little boutique on the southern end of the market district. My current clothes are a bit inconvenient for the traveling we plan on doing, plus I needed to get Molly something to apologize leaving her stuck for so long yesterday."

You had been absent-mindedly ignoring the small monster most of the day. You still couldn't get the mental image of it's second mouth out of your head.

"Alright, lead the way."

The two of you wind your way through the city streets, though Lady Shabboneau occasionally stops at the windows of various shops to examine the wares. Eventually, the two of you arrive at your destination, a small shop near the end of the street. Glancing in the window, you're fairly certain this place only sells women's clothing.

"Well, here we are," she states, "Would you like to come inside with me, or wait out here? I'm not sure how long it'll take for me to find something."

"I could help you pick out something if you like," you comment,"I don't know that much about fashion, but I should be able to tell you if something is good for traveling or not."

"That would be rather helpful actually."

The two of you head inside. You note a wide variety of dresses, as well as various fitting rooms in the back. The two of you slowly meander through the selection. Lady Shabboneau picks dresses out one at a time, with you giving your opinion on how well it would hold up for distance travel or if she needed to run suddenly.

After a while, the two of you have picked out a rather wide variety of dresses. As you're forced to carry them, you wonder to yourself if she ever wears anything that isn't a shade of yellow. Lady Shabboneau takes the stack of clothes from you as she enters the fitting room, and you begin waiting around.

You decide to wait near the fitting rooms, just in case Lady Shabboneau wanted you to put back some of the dresses or something.

"Ciel?" you hear a familiar voice call out from behind you. Turning around you find Lisa, wearing a rather elegant looking red dress. Your eyes gently drift downwards, subconsciously noting her various curves. You quickly stop yourself before snapping your attention back at her face, which seems to have a look of bewilderment on it.

"Lisa?" you respond, "What are you doing here?"

"I thought I should by a nice dress, since all my current clothes are for traveling," she begins, "Wait, I should be asking you that question. Why are you in a dress shop?"

"Well, Lady Shabboneau insisted we stop here, since I finished my business."

"I thought you said the two of you were doing paperwork? You've just been shopping? Why didn't you invite me?"

This wasn't going well. In addition to fighting the constant urge to glance downwards, you probably needed to explain what you were actually doing. The gift wasn't going to stay secret forever, so you decide to go ahead and give it to her here.

"I actually went out to get a gift for you," you begin, fishing the box out of your pocket, "It was supposed to be a surprise."

After getting the box, you lift open the lid to reveal its contents to Lisa, who is rather speechless. You're not quite sure if its due to the fact that you got her a gift at all, or if it's because this was the necklace she had specifically wanted.

Before you can speak, the moment is interrupted, as you feel a sudden weight appears on your outstretched arm. You recognize a familiar blue form with yellow eyes. He seems to have something in his hand as well. It looks exactly like the necklace you bought. Based on how much lighter the box feels, it seems that the frog is up to it's old tricks.

As you try to cry out, something slimy strikes you in the face. As you recover, you see a blue form bolt out the door.

You grab Riolu as you bolt out the door without missing a beat. You run after the small theif, although this time it seems he's traveling a bit closer to street level. It'll be a fair bit more difficult to catch this thing without Lisa or her pidgey. You're fairly far away from the river's edge, so you shouldn't have to worry about him escaping that way.

Riolu isn't having trouble keeping up, although he seems to be struggling a bit with his new armor. Yours is also weighing you down a bit, but you do your best to power through.

You don't quite feel like you can outrun this thing, especially since you're on a rather crowded street. Instead, you tell Riolu to try and cut it off using a side street. As Riolu leaves to try and head him off, you continue your pursuit.

As you continue down the street, you find it more and more difficult to keep the small blue monster in your line of sight. As you reach an intersection, you realize you can't tell which way it went.

Thinking quickly, you focus using aura. It takes you a moment to pinpoint the thing, but it seems as though it's towards the right. You also notice that Riolu seems to be chasing it back in your direction.

You prepare to attempt to catch the creature when it attempts to run past.

You grasp Riolu's carrying bag in your hands. You're not sure if the thing is strong enough to bust out of it or not, but it's your best bet at the moment.

Soon, you spy two short blue forms rapidly advancing on your position through the crowd. As they get closer, you notice the frog is looking backwards occasionally. It doesn't seem to notice you.

As it leaps past, you sweep your bag outwards, causing the bandit to land face first inside of it. You quickly wrap your hands around the base to prevent it from escaping.

The bag thrashes about for a while as you head back towards the dress shop. Soon the thrashing stops, although the bag does start leaking water. Fortunately the bag is leather, so it doesn't do much other than make a mess.

Soon you arrive outside the dress shop. Since it would be rude to bring a wet sack with a frog thief into the store, you wait outside for your friends as you consider your options.

"Alright," you begin, "I know you like stealing things, but think about how often that gets you caught like this?"

You hear some muffled croaks, as a handful of bubbles erupt from the top of the bag. You're not quite sure what sort of response that was, but it doesn't seem positive.

"Look, right now I just want the necklace you took. Can you give it back to me?

There's a brief pause, and then there are more croaks. It seems a bit more of a positive response this time, although as you consider this reaction, it's likely that he just wants you to loosen your grip on the bag so he can attempt an escape.

"How about who you're stealing this stuff for? I know you don't need money. Can you lead me to him?"

The sack is strangely silent now. This creature either didn't understand you, or it doesn't want to reveal its owner.

You don't feel like this is working.

You attempt and focus your aura. While you weren't sure if it would help, it might give you a bit more insight into what's going on inside the bag.

Reaching into your pocket, you grab some food. You're not quite sure what he eats, but hopefully he can eat bread. You carefully slip it through the top of the bag in small pieces. It's an interesting sight as he squirms around to eat it.

"Now can you tell me who you're working for?"

Froakie squirms around in the bag some more. You get a vague feeling of suspicion off of it. It still doesn't seem to want to trust you.

Reaching into your wallet, you take out a few coins.

"Would you tell me in exchange for this?" You jingle the coins in your palm next to the bag. You notice his form stiffen for a moment before shifting his head closer to the noise. He seems to wait a moment, fidgeting with his fingers and toes. After a few seconds, he flicks his tongue out at the edge of the bag, sliding back to his original position.

You reach for more coins from the bag, getting a handful. Once again, you shake them near the bag, with your captive moving to listen in once again. His digits continue twitching, and after a bit longer than last time, he shifts back into the original position, although he didn't flick his tongue this time.

It's almost as though he can tell how much money you're offering.

"Alright then, name your price. How much do I need to give you to lead me to who you're stealing for?"

You're not sure if it understood you or not, but soon enough a slow trail of bubbles begin to float out from the top of the sack. It's difficult to keep count, but the total is somewhere between 50-100p.

The question is how you want to play this.

You count out 50p. While it might be more than he asked for, you don't want to waste time bartering him down.

"Alright, here's the deal. I'm going to give you half of this now, and the other half once we get there. Deal?"

You jingle the coins near the bag. After a minute, you get something that seems to be affirmation.

Carefully opening the bag, Froakie quickly leaps out and onto your head. You notice there's a small pool of water in the bottom of the bag, and lying in it is the necklace you bought. After pocketing it, you feel a poke from your head as your guide points you towards the north.

Continuing through the streets, you're thankful that this frog is lighter than Riolu, since otherwise you'd have trouble carrying him like this. As you near the river, you tense slightly, though it seems your guide isn't trying to leave you. He instead points you downstream.

Following the riverbank, you walk a considerable distance. After the better part of an hour, Froakie leaps off your head and towards the riverbank. Following at his heels, you see he's heading for a section of the bank that seems to be overgrown with vines. He stops just before them, reaching his hand back towards you. After dropping another 50p in his palm, he leaps through the vines.

You brush the overgrowth aside, and find yourself in a small outcove. The earth above seems to be fairly solid, although a large number of vines hang from every side facing the river.

Looking towards the back of the cave, you see a figure slouched next to a large open chest. It's completely overflowing with coins and gems. Froakie quickly leaps over to it, depositing your bribe inside.

You carefully approach the figure, before realizing something. Whoever this man was, he's long since passed away. You note a large amount of empty cans and medicine bottles nearby, although it seems he perished here anyway. You glance down to his hand, which seems to be holding a picture frame.

You kneel down to get on Froakie's level, reaching out your arms, you try and give it a hug. It seems to back off a bit, still unsure of your intentions.

Pausing, you decide to try to reach out with aura. It can let you sense emotions, and you can transfer it to other creatures to heal them, who's to say you can't try and transfer some emotions.

After focusing, Froakie seems visibly calmed, you go in for an embrace once more, and this time Froakie meets it.

All is calm for a moment, and then your mind begins dredging up memories. They don't seem familiar though. A large storm, flashes of lightning, the thundering of hooves. It's once you see the blue frog from the photo that you understand what you're seeing.

From what you can gather, the larger frog was his mother, who died while the three were escaping from something. It seems that after reaching this cave, the man was too injured to move. His face is surprisingly kind as he asks Froakie to go into town and steal money. He wanted him to steal money so that they could celebrate once he got better. Once the chest was full, they could get anything they wanted.

Then it flashes by more quickly. The man speaks less and less, sleeps more and more, until he eventually doesn't awaken. Froakie continues thieving, trying desperately to fill the chest. He can get anything if he fills it, and there's one thing he wants back.

The visions fade away, you find your eyes full of tears and Froakie bubbling in your arms. It seems at some point Riolu tried to wrap his arms around you as well.

"Listen to me little guy," you begin, trying not to choke on your words, "I saw what you went through, but that chest isn't going to bring your family back. It's already overflowing, and he's still gone. They're still gone. You need to try to move on. They wouldn't want you to spend your whole life putting coins in a hidden cave. They'd want you to live."

Froakie nods in understanding, though you're not sure what to do now.

Froakie leaps onto your head, bubbling happily.

The three of you then head back to town. It's fast approaching evening, and you're certain that the girls are probably worried about where you went.

Fortunately, you find both of them, as well as Sir Richard. It seems they stayed by the dress shop in case you returned.

"Ciel!" Lisa calls out as she waves, "What happened?"

Contemplate and consider asking Froakie if we should've left all that money there...

You want to tell them the story, but you can tell them later. There's something else you need to take care of.

"I managed to get this back," you smile as you extract the necklace.

"I still don't understand," she says, "How did you know?"

"I saw you looking over it at the Jewelry store," you explain, "With all that's happened today was my first chance to buy it, and I wanted it to be a surprise."

"Thank you very much," she smiles, taking the necklace. She strings it around her neck, making sure to center it. It really does suit her, you think.

I feel like this is a good place to call the thread for tonight. As usual, I'll be sticking around for a bit to answer questions or comments.

We can't just leave all that money. Maybe one of the others will know what to do about stolen goods. Pretty sure there are laws about taking stolen goods.

Thanks for the thread Med

D-did we really leave the money? I understand that there might be some bad memories with that chest but yeah.

We gotta get the fucking money.

Well, it was a fairly large chest. You probably couldn't have carried it back by yourselves.

Once you tell your friends the long version of the story though, they could help arrange for someone official to recover it.
