Can't say it's that big of a deal over here. Can't speak for everyone, but yen is basically fantasy money to me. You could've used rupees, ork teeth, or writs signifying ownership of land and it would all be the same alien thing to me - just be consistent. Tho I suppose versimilitude probably matters more to some.

You yank out the yellowed envelope with a wax seal on it. It’s you’re only hope. “Come on Ayumi...” you pray under your breath as you shut your eyes tight and rip it open.

You open the happy birthday card to reveal... A slot for a 350 yen giftcard for the spa! You’ll only have to pay 30 Yen!

You pump your fist in the air as you try to suppress a cheshire grin. BFFs for life!

You tuck the card and envelope back into your backpack before zipping it up and jumping back up to your feet as happy as can be; you saunter over to the receptionist, now crossing her arms and looking at her wristwatch before slapping the giftcard down on the counter along with a few bills to cover the charge.

You breath deep and point to the heavens as you proclaim “One Full service, Complete spa treatment with the works!”

“Sure thing honey.” she sighs dropping the card and cash into the register door before locking it. “Right this way...”

She gently grabs you by the shoulders and leads you you behind the white tile barrier. As soon as you’re behind the barrier her hand undoes your neckerchief.

You feel yourself blushing again, but before you know it you’re naked as the day you where born. A young man leads you into a room and shuts the door.

He wipes his hands on a towel tucked into his belt and instructs you to lay on the table in the center of the room face down which you quickly comply with. Low ambient music starts to play as he places a towel over your decently shapely rear end. He places his oiled hands on the small of your back, causing you to tense up immediately. “Relax... relaaaaaax” he coos and soon enough you are melting in his hands as he rubs hot stones all over your body and works out all of the knots in your back and neck. You can only moan at the sensation.

After what seems like both an eternity and an instant, your messus helps you up from the table and instructs you to the “hot spring”.

You slide down in the hotspring and let the water over take you, your mind and body completely in sync and free of pain. It’s like you’re living a lucid dream. You feel charged. Energized. At peace...

After a facial and some basic pedi and minicuring your day is complete. You step back out into the lobby feeling more energy than you have ever felt before, but wonder where your friends have gone.

You look to the setting sun in the distance, the sun bathing the street in golden light as the sky slowly turns red. It’s getting late... buuuuuut.... You bite your lower lip and look to your left and right with a devilish grin. You DO have money and you DO have a new totally legit ID to try out.

You start jogging down the sidewalk apologizing to passers by. You know EXACTLY where you’re going and you’re lucky the shop you’ve always had your eyes set on is close by.

You stop in front of a small red bricked building, a purple XXX neon sign flickers on and off outside. Your breath is short and your heart skips a beat... You check around you making sure you’re not being followed, then in you go. Its time. Time to act upon your deepest most secret.

You quickly shut the door behind you. The man behind the counter is in a black form fitting tank top taking a long drag on a cigarette as he flips through a magazine.

PLAP! You slap the ID on the counter before he can even finish, he barely looks at it before handing your card back to you with his pinkyless hand.

You look at the store, the selection seems decent given how small the store is. There’s a whole wall filled with VHS’s and magazine racks little the walking space. On the back wall is a section of rubber novelties and onaholes; there’s a sign in the back that reads “clothing” and points to the stairs.

30 minutes isn’t enough time! There’s so much to look at! Luckily you have some idea of what you’re looking for.

You rush up to the top floor and quickly slide yourself into a slinky black Neko outfit. It really brings out your ass and even has a zipper in the crotch, it also comes with a set of ears and a comino mask. While it's not full body in that it only goes to your calves, it does have cute fingerless gloves with a little cat paw prints on tthe palms and a domino mask to go with it all.

Fawning over how good you look you spend a lot of time posing in front if the mirror. It's really getting you going until you see the price tag... just a little over what you have. You're young and cute you can TOTALLY talk this guy down.

You rush downstairs with the costume in hand; the man at the counter scowling. Maybe this sin't a good idea.

And there they go. You drop the outfit and bolt down the street, tears in your eyes and completely afraid to look back. It's 7PM now and you feel the adventurous spirit drained from you as you rush home eager to escape yourself and the store.

You arrive at your home out of breath; your grandfather is still in his silly outfit sweeping the cobblestone walkways near the abandoned shrine. Looks like he finally got around to opening it up and cleaning it. You nervously wave to him, but he doesn’t notice you. Thank god. You slide open your front door as your heart rate slows from that system jolt you got at the “toy store” and proclaim that you’re home! Buuut no one seems to be around. Mom’s sitting... well LYING on the couch, a finished bottle of red wine in her hand. You walk over to the TV only playing static and snow and turn it off.

Your eyes droop as you feel the icy cold pincers of despair close around you. You missed your own birthday and mom went and started thinking about dad again...

You can feel tears start to well up on you, but you bite your knuckles and head out of the house again taking a deep breath.

Your grandfather finally notices you though and shambles on over to you and hands you a gift.

“Ah yes happy birthday Kagome... I got you a gift it’s a mummifi-... what was it again? A mummified demon foot I think. It’s extremely rare you see.”

Everything has a story with grandpa. Everything. Even the new sneakers he picked up last week had some sort of ancient lore associated with them somehow. Something about the god of speed or whatever.

“-in the edo period it was cons... Kagome?”

“Hm?” Shit he caught you zoning out.

“You really shouldn’t keep your mother waiting so long... she worries and she remembers...”

“Ya... I know...” you say turning your eyes to the shadows on your lawn.

“Come on now I’ll heat up some rice for your supper.”

The two of you head inside and eat in silence the static of the TV lighting the room. This place is eerily quiet, but it’s probably your imagination. Still you feel pretty lowsey.

You sadly thank your grandfather for the food and trudge up the stares to homework and go to sleep.

Groining you shut the door and throw your backpack next to your bed. and boot up your computer. You really should be better to your mother you think to yourself. You almost let yourself break down, but then you see your PC finally finished booting up. You can’t stop now. It’s time to work. You’ll just stomp that sadness down and burry it like mom does. You’ll throw yourself completely into this dull history assignment and then when you figure out what career you want you’ll throw yourself behind that too!

Time slips by but you eventually manage to hammer out what you think is a decent report on the mythology of your ancestors. Weird topic for history, but it turned out to be at least bearable.

You hit the print button and your machine jumps to life noisily printing out your report. You jump back afraid it might wake up your brother, but you only head silence. You breath a sigh of relief.

Holding the warm paper in your hands you can’t help but smile. Finally, a good report. You turn off your computer and tuck the papers in your backpack before brushing your teeth and showering. Sleep clean, wake clean.

You collapse on your bed and quickly drift to sleep eager to forget today.
