Let's build a setting!

Let's start with a very classical fantasy setting (dwarves, elves, orcs and humans in a land filled with magic, evil BBEGs, gods, prophecies, artifacts and dungeons), and add twist upon twist on it.

And let's start with something small: elves can grow beards.
>>
>>32236060
the gods are all dragons
>>
>>32236078
Goddamnit, Ao.
>>
Let's do some work on the cosmogony.
The main word isn't a planet but the moon of an oversized planet.
>>
>>32236095
dunno what you're referencing

Ao is the leader of a cult that glorifies all gods/dragons in general, but refuses to favor any particular one and uses completely foreign religious practices.
>>
Human are not a generic blankslate race and have a lot unique abilities that set them apart from others.

The Dwarves are born of the mud and earth, get a real classic feel for them.
>>
>>32236119
We could then use the planet as a home for the gods or something among theses lines.
Also we need names for the planet and the moon.
>>
>>32236137
Humans are the endurance race: They are neither strong or fast, but they can run the longest distances and fight the longest battles. They are surprisingly good at wars and sieges because of this.
>>
In the beginning, the supreme one conceived of a seemingly boundless sea with a single stone at the bottom. This stone grew hot, very hot. So hot that the cosmic ocean was going to boil. Waves raged and the water bubbled high and from the churning of the sea came the 7 powerful beings. Time, Death, Magic, Memory, Dreams, Light, and Darkness. Together these beings were the architects of the new world, and used the power of the stone at the depths of the great sea to build the world. Light and darkness alternated duties as there was no sun nor moon in those days.

Should I continue?
>>
>>32236166
>power of the stone at the depths
so all the gods use heat as their source of power?

Magic is kinda vague, start with that god I guess.
>>
>>32236192
All the gods are dragons, so they breathed in the heat of the stone for their power.

Magic is manipulating heat and breath, the strongest mages have the strongest lungs.
>>
>>32236060
>tfw you actually go and ask /tg/ to fanwank

>>32236166
>tfw it works
>>
>>32236157

Yeah man, that's perfect. It's like your read my mind. It makes sense with humans being able to travel farther for longer then most animals.

What should be the tone and theming of the world be?
>>
>>32236166
That's neatly written but I have trouble connecting it to other anon's ideas.
>>
True Elves are powerful creatures from another plane, who discovered this world in soaring ships of silver. No one has actually seen a true Elf in centuries. The common, pointy-eared ones are men taken aboard the elvish crafts and bathed in strange 'magic',
>>
>>32236209
>>32236166
>Time, Death, Magic, Memory, Dreams, Light, and Darkness.

All gods and all of their dominions are of the breathing cycles - inhalation, circulation, exhalation.
Time: Past, Present, Future
Death: Expire, Rot, Recycle
Magic: Conceive, Believe, Achieve
Memory: Witness, Learn, Remember
Dreams: Remember, Relearn, Witness
(Note: Memory and Dreams are twins)
Light: Ignite, Survive, Extinguish
Darkness: Consume, Surround, Dissolve
(Note: Light and Darkness are twins)
>>
All halflings are protected by the spirits of their ancestors. To other races, they look like they have ridiculous luck, but to them it's the first halfings Lord Luck and Lady Chance watching over them.
>>
>>32236253
To clarify - circulation is the equivalent of 'holding' your breath.
>>
>>32236253
Memory and Dreams are depicted as conjoined at the tail.
>>
>>32236282
and Light and Darkness are constantly attempting to devour each other
>>
>>32236258
Brother Body, Sister Soul, and Mother Mind speak of the values of the three.
>>
>>32236209
Magic is tied to the body in general. Casting consists of breathing (often aided by singing or incantations), and gestures and movements of the whole body.
Complicated spells (anything stronger than lighting a candle) require entire songs/dances. The most powerful spells go far beyond the endurance of a single person and require mass casting - that looks like a carefully orchestrated choir/ballet.
High - end magic can move continents if only you can gather enough casters and not cause a cataclysm by rehearsal.
>>
But the dragons were not alone. The old ones, ancient horrors who lurked in the depths of the sea would not take kindly to the creation of land by the dragons, and they seized control of the fire stone. It was then that they declared war on the dragons, and swore an oath to sink the entire surface world one way or another. The sea would reclaim what was rightfully its. With them came hosts of sea serpents, krakens, the proud merfolk, and many terrible water spirits.
>>
>>32236060
>classical fantasy setting

Not using tired cliches as a foundation would be a good start.
>>
>>32236291
One day Darkness swallowed its twin for but a second. The next day it produced a second stone in orbit of the great sea world.

This moon would become the main world that life lives on.
>>
Let's sum it up a little, shall we?

>>32236166
So that's the cosmic keystone of the universe: a being whose very existence is greater than that of the universe put a stone of infinite heat at the bottom of an infinitely deep and wide sea.
TTGL much

>>32236078
The sea boiled, and the first 7 dragon gods appeared.

>>32236227
They separated the vast Ocean of existence in separate Seas - the so-called planes. In one of them, developed the Elves ; mythical creatures able to sail the cosmic Ocean, relying on the leftovers of the Stone's heat to power their planeships.

>>32236119
In one of the over seas, a world not unlike ours was born; and in a certain galaxy, next to a certain sun, on the moon of a certain planet, the playful god of Death decided to create something that could try to not be affected by him. The god of Time saw that, and said that these things can't possibly be given the unrestricted ability to fool a god and have a chance to win ; thus, Time became the one interrupting the game between living beings and Death.

>>32236149
Death, deciding to keep playing, set home on the planet near his creation, to survey and observe the expansion of his creation. The other gods come from times to times, to visit his constantly evolving work.

>>32236137
>>32236060
>>32236157
>>32236227
Years later, and with the constant tampering of the gods, sapient races developed: the dwarves, sons of the earth; the humans, those that last; and the elves, descending from the plane-sailers.

(My personal addition)
Unbeknownst to the gods themselves, some of the living beings evolved on an unseen face of the moon, in the ever cold desolation of the ream of Darkness itself; eating rocks, breeding like there's no tomorrow, and unable to dream, remember, or cast magic, are the orcs: the vermin of this world.

The proud Kauhxra and Nascheii lizardfolk of the southern jungles and cloud forests are somewhat misunderstood by the traditional kingdoms of man, elf and dwarf.
The honour duels decried as brutal savagery are never fatal and only used when debate has failed.
The admittedly obscene amount of gold that plates their great conical temples is there purely to reflect the glory of their Sun God, Nabu-zikir-iskun, and not as part of some cult of wealth. They see the amber of the rare Lattanwood tree as far more worthy for decorating the temples of Istar-su-mes-ses, the God of the Dead and the Underworld, of Wealth and Metal, or for the treehollow shrines of En-hedu-anna-aei, the Forest Mother.
>>
>>32236291
When Darkness Consumes Light, Light Ignites, burning away the dark.

When Darkness Surrounds Light, Light Survives, fighting back with tooth and claw.

And so Darkness, in infinite rage and hate, Dissolves itself and Light together. Light, however, Extinguishes itself, denying Darkness the pleasure of victory, and both are reborn to begin again.
>>
>>32236253
Time and Death are jaded watchers who know how all things end, the only company they know is each others.

Magic loves Memory and Dreams but cannot choose just one.
>>
>>32236335
Unless the moonworld doesn't orbit like our moon, either thoses orcs are sometimes in the lighted area, either they are in the eyesight of Death.
>>
>>32236367
Time and Death are serpent dragons. Time twists in a circle with twenty-four legs on his silver coated body. Death has no limbs on her alabaster shell. In the points where they would be, 12 eyes line her body.
>>
>>32236121
>>32236253
Thousands years later, was born Ao: this man contemplated the planet overshadowing his world for seventy years, without moving, sleeping, or eating; and at the end of those seventy years, he finally caught a glimpse of the gods. Truth was upon him; he taught his people about the game of Death, and the judgement of Time. He taught them about the secrets of Magic, about the relentless circle of Light and Darkness, and the bond between Memory and Dreams.

He taught them about the breaths of the dragon gods, and how this breath alter their world.

I'm getting a real cosmic vibe out of the dragon gods, keep up the goods work.

>>32236282
>>32236291
>>32236309
Other members of Ao's cult managed to catch glimpse of truth: the physical nature of the bond between Memory and Dreams. The horrifying nature of Light and Darkness' game of tag. And how Magic is attentive to the body of every beings.

>>32236313
>nothing to add, this is already well written

>>32236258
>>32236304
As time went by, other races started to appear. Of unknown origins were the halflings, bearers of godly luck, and valuing family bonds above all. Some suspect them of being the offspring of Memory and Dreams.

>>32236326
oh well retconning
One of the ancient truths discovered by scrutating the nightly skies was the very origin of our world: it came from Darkness catching its twin.

>>32236321
Precisely. This was thought like a challenge: taking the one most generic and overused setting ever created, and trying to twist it until it's original once again.
>>
>>32236370
Hey, it's a mythological genesis story. It doesn't have to makes sense. Half of it is probably just made-up legend anyway.

If you really insist, they can come from underground or some other place equally always dark.
>>
>>32236367
Magic looks as a Sapient does: two legged, two arms, and a head. There are two differences though. It is covered in a rainbow array of multicolored scales and has seven wings to its back.

Memory and Dreams have two legs and two wings each. Memory is pale yet solid while Dreams is transparent yet vibrant.
>>
>>32236313
For fire is breath and life, and water is suffocation and pressure.
>>
>>32236394
>>32236436
Light and Darkness are exact duplicates of each other, but whereas Light shines brilliantly like a sun in midday, Darkness is coated with what seems like the antithesis of fire - an unlight, a darkness that glows.
>>
ITT: TES fans who can't write a setting that isn't TES.
>>
>>32236452
Pretty much
>>
>>32236437
Using magic against the creatures of the deep is useless.

Iron though, the transformation of earth into a new form through flame, can strike them down with no worry.

The Deep Lords put a foul curse on their bane to turn brittle in their depths.
>>
>>32236452
I'm not seeing the similarities.
>>
>>32236473
It's probably the whole "standard fantasy in appearance but the deeper you go the weirder it is" thing.

At a causal glance TES looks like a Tolkenesque world, but after some research things are weird.
>>
>>32236463
Earth transformed by fire brings iron and steel

Earth transformed by the pressure and minerals of water brings crystals and gems.

Creatures of the deep fight metal with great crystalline spears.
>>
>>32236304
A halfling who is physically fit is called a Brother, a smart halfing a Mother, and an imaginative one a Sister, regardless of gender.

A dead halfling is called a Father.
>>
>>32236517
A halfling who dies taking a great risk is granted great power in the afterlife while a halfling who dies a boring death is granted little power.

The halfling saying "Better a Father early than a Father late" is the equivalent of "Who wants to live forever?"
>>
>>32236548
>>32236517
This confuses the shit out of most everyone else.
>>
>>32236548
Lady Luck and Lord Chance look favorably upon the bold, both granting them better boons in life and greater powers in death
>>
>>32236437
Yet water is necessary to live, just as breathing is. Living things are born of fire and water - and though they are delicate and but mortal, this precarious position of theirs means they are of utmost importance to the War.
>>
>>32236437
>>32236463
Fire/heat is a natural conductor for magic. Respectively, water/cold is a natural insulator. Each race has developped ways to control these two opposite elements to their liking.

For example, it was the Dwarves who created iron by heating the earth
>>
>>32236584
For the Dwarves, literally mud made into flesh, this is especially important.

They can craft both crystal and steel.
>>
>>32236485
Yeah, but what are the actual similarities.

Honest question, I never cared much for the setting after Morrowind.
>>
>>32236548
>>The halfling saying "Better a Father early than a Father late" is the equivalent of "Who wants to live forever?"

This sounds like Urza's Saga flavour texts.
>>
>>32236656
I don't really know, was just saying what I thought was the idea behind the post. You know more about TES than I do, most of the lore is dumbed down after Morrowind.

I really need to play Morrowind.
>>
Do we have a name for the moonworld and the godsplanet?
>>
>>32236698
The moon world is known as Solod and the ocean world is Dadep.
>>
>>32236679
No, then it'd be "Better a Father early than a Father late" — Halfling saying meaning "Who wants to live forever?"
>>
Salt is a forbidden commodity, an item from the deep. It halts the the process of rot, and unravels the cycle of death and rebirth. "To salt the Earth" is a curse against Death.
>>
>>32236253
In the eastern mountains a ancient and dead civilisation is reborn into undeath after their emperor worshipped Death for his blessings, while they are not evil, they are very private and defensive, not suffering outsiders.
>>
>>32236485
But that was kinda the point, wasn't it? Starting with a Tolkenesque world and making things go full what?
>>
>>32236719
The Lizard folk take great pleasure in eating rotted meat. They have entire rooms where they allow the meat to rot in a safe environment.

This is called "aging."
>>
>>32236560
Spoiler alert: halfling are creatures of the depths, hence their confusing mythology, powers and stuff.
>>
>>32236719
I like this, it also opens up the potential for illegal salt smuggling.

Goblins are all scholars who burrow out huge hives like bees, then set about collecting any knowledge they can get their hands on and storing it - raiding other races for books, artifacts, and other things of note to add to their collection. Compulsive hoarders.
>>
>>32236749
They salt their meat.
>>
Dwarwes are given life by ethanol, the fire-water. They need booze to live and their body consists of about 60% ethanol.
>>
A cult that has been seeing increasing popularity in forested areas is the divergent "Brothers of the legless". Followers denounce the dragons as god and believe serpents instead deserve their praise.
>>
OP here, my internet went bonkers shortly after I posted that.

/tg/ never fails to impress me. Here I was waiting for waifus, wenches, lewd elves and monster girls, and instead? War between heat and cold, seven dragon gods, Death being the good guy, demonic halflings, and clashes of crystal spears and steel swords.

/tg/ never fails to impress me.
>>
>>32236737
Lizard folk have an established Aztec styled presence in the southern jungles and have a giant city constructed over a lake. The lake contains a giant feathered Sea snake that they believe is the child of one of the gods
>>
>>32236783
Humans and Lizard folk are strong in the Flame and Breath. Dwarves are balanced. Halflings are strong in Water and Pulse.

True Elves and Orcs are composed of Neither, the stuff that is Neither Water or Flame, Neither Breath or Pulse, Neither Hot nor Cold.
>>
Necromancy is largely accepted in most capital cities, however it is largely seen as a "phase" that most magically inclined individuals go through when largely inexperienced.

>>32236730
The undead while defensive and too themselves, can bring back the spirits of the dead (if they are willing) to communicate with the living, although their societies appearance makes them frightful to most races
>>
>>32236783
Wouldn't they be highly flammable then?>>32236802
You're not alone, anon I'm also impressed.
>>32236877
>>32236883
A highly skilled necromancer is called "edgy"
Also: There is a small amount of fairies living in the moonworld Solod, they are never aging children of the gods Dream and Magic.
They're not born, instead, once every now and then a star fall from the sky and lands in the moon, this star is like an egg and after seven days, seven hours and seven minutes hatches.
These fairies are highly skilled magicians but they draw their powers from Dreams to create heat and thus Magic.
(Should I continue or it's getting crappy?)
>>
>>32236877
Necromancy is practiced by pumping corpses full of Salt Waster pulled straight from Dadep. These artificial undead will serve any command given to them.

It is rumored that beings from Dadep do not die and merely wait for their chance to act on those who share their pulse.
>>
>>32236829
They believe themselves direct descendants to the gods due to physical similarities.
>>
>>32236730
Death hides their presence from the other dragons, as though she has breathed life back into where it shouldn't be, she has also found something she loves dearly for the first time. She sees them as children, children denied to her for far too long by her role as Death. Could this be the sign of a rebellion on her part?
>>
>>32236209
>Magic from heat and control of breathing

Sounds pretty esoteric.

Muscle wizards in the finest wuxia tradition, mastering their internal heat and breathing in order to do things like increase their body's strength or friction and run up walls, or cool themselves to wave away fireballs with a flick of their wrist?
>>
>>32236898
Continue, but the fixation on sevens is a bit gay.

Tobacco and alcohol are largely unused in human society but mild opiates are a regular feature.
>>
>>32236737
Lizardfolk are known for their extremely accommodating diet, being able to eat damn near anything.

>>32236829
They believe the feathered serpent is the son of the god of the sky and of rain, Bel-sarra-uzur, and is a prisoner of Dur-i-galzu, the Cold Queen of the Waters who snatched it from the sky in jealousy of Bel-sarra-uzur's powers over rain.
>>
>>32236910
Lizardfolk have little fear of other races, and they respect elven traditions although believe them to be weak and small, while they often brawl with captive Orcs in gladiator rings
>>
>>32236767
This is the greatest insult amongs other races.
Telling someone that he salts his meat is grounds for a duel of breath.
>>
>>32236942
Though, to the orcs' endless irritation, these brawls rarely go beyond first blood.
>>
>>32236953
Orcs do not bleed as they neither have Pulse nor Breath.
>>
>>32236946
Duels of breath are exactly as they sound - highly regulated battles where the use of breath magic is allowed. A typical restriction is limiting it to only one aspect of breathing - inhalation, circulation, or exhalation - and thus giving a natural time limit (and win condition by endurance) to the match.
>>
The entire plane is a clock counting down until the beginning of itself; the gods are the hours, the planets the minutes, and the various races are the seconds.

Death is venerated because with each death the clock ticks on, approaching inverse-Ragnarok, the point at which everything that is will come into being.
>>
Every once in a while, a "marked" child is born. They either have a dragonic aspect (e.g. scales, horns, slitted pupils, tail, vestigial wings) which is considered a blessing, or an aquatic one (suckers, gills, webbed hands and feet, constant smell of brine, ...) that signififes the touch of the Deep Ones. The former usually rise high in the clergy and elevate the social status of their families, but those unfortunate wretches born with slimy fish-scales? They can count themselves lucky if they are taken in by wandering Halflings who happen upon them before their parents leave them in the woods or throw them into the sea. These individuals usually have a very strong natural inclination towards magic.
>>
>>32236898
>Wouldn't they be highly flammable then?
Yes. This is why, despite being great warriors the dwarwes cannot fight in tight fomations and avoid open field battles.
>>
>>32236149

That's so fucking cool.

The planet could work much like the astral plane except that it is where all of the gods live.

There are many other moons as well which function like the other planes.
>>
>>32236965
As humans have an exceptional endurance they are regarded as exceptional duelists. This also gives them a depiction in other races as being dedicated to resolving conflict in impractical ways.

>>
In the beginning, the supreme one Altius created The Deep, a seemingly boundless sea with a single stone at the bottom, Ereius. This stone grew hot, very hot. So hot that the cosmic ocean was going to boil. Waves raged and the water bubbled high and from the churning of the sea came the 7 dragons: Time, Death, Magic, Memory, Dreams, Light, and Darkness.

All gods and all of their dominions are of the breathing cycles - inhalation, circulation, exhalation.
Time: Past, Present, Future
Death: Expire, Rot, Recycle
Magic: Conceive, Believe, Achieve
Memory: Witness, Learn, Remember
Dreams: Remember, Relearn, Witness
(Note: Memory and Dreams are twins)
Light: Ignite, Survive, Extinguish
Darkness: Consume, Surround, Dissolve
(Note: Light and Darkness are twins)

Together these beings were the architects of the new world. They breathed in the heat of the Ereius and manipulated heat and breath to build the world.

After this era of great change and upheaval, the 7 dragons split up. As conjoined twins, Memory and Dreams journeyed the skies and the stars, sometimes visiting through the visions we see in our minds. Magic, ever enraptured by the two, set off to chase them, never reaching, but leaving wondrous creations in its endless journey.

Darkness, on the other hand, grew greedy, and attempted to devour his twin for power. In the instant he did so, Light, in impotent rage burned itself and Darkness with it. Both would later reborn to create an endless cycle of war and hate. What was left was a stone that orbited The Deep.

Seeing this, the playful god of Death decided to create something out of the stone that could try to not be affected by him. The god of Time saw that, and said that these things can't possibly be given the unrestricted ability to fool a god and have a chance to win; thus, Time became the one interrupting the game between living beings and Death. Thus the stone was changed into the land of the living: Solod.
>>
>>32237222
But the dragons were not alone. The old ones, ancient horrors who lurked in the depths of the sea would not take kindly to the creation of land by the dragons, and they seized control of the Ereius. It was then that they declared war on the dragons, and swore an oath to sink the entire surface world one way or another. The sea would reclaim what was rightfully its. With them came hosts of sea serpents, krakens, the proud merfolk, and many terrible water spirits.

The Dragons of Fire rose up to face the Waters of the Deep, fighting to protect their way of life, for fire is breath and life, and water is suffocation and pressure.

Yet water is necessary to live, just as breathing is. Living things are born of fire and water - and though they are delicate and but mortal, this precarious position of theirs means they are of utmost importance to the War.

Unable to use their breath in the deep, the dragons used Fire to change the Earth, from it forging Iron and Steel. In the same way, from The Deep came giant spears wrought of crystal and gems, born from eons of pressure and minerals.

And with these tools the War of Fire and Water was fought, leading to the worlds of today.
>>
I gotta do something, so someone else is welcome to describe each race.
>>
Rumours abound as to what lives within The Deep.
A notable story common among children in coastal towns are the stories of "Salters", supposed skeletal Insect-like creatures that walk upon the shores at night.
Their names relate to the trails of salt found in the mornings from where they supposedly walked.
>>
>>32236924
And fairies aren't?
>>32237022
It's been suggested Solod and Dadep
Ok.
Continuing from>>32236898

Fairies are seen as reckless and strange by most mortals. Since they don't age, they spend most of their time enjoying life and seeking pleasures instead of trying to achieve things.
If asked about fairies, most mortals would say that they roam the lands in seemingly eternal "whatever they do".
When a fairy is killed, it turns into a small blue flame that extinguishes after a few seconds, it's soul then returns to the sky in the shape of a new star.
-Time holds a grudge against them for not aging but doesn't bother to do anything because they eventually are killed.
Fairies range from 1 up to 3 feet in height and have up to seven functional wings, their body emit a faint glow that get's stronger when they are happy.
They don't need water but have to eat and sleep otherwise they magical powers are weakened.
>>
>>32236977
If I had time, I'd write the story of a Dragonmarked and a Deepmarked raised together by a halfling, a human and an orc. But I have no time. Fuck.

the most sought after meat/bones/fur belongs to rare large avain mammals "gliders" that live high in the mountains. They are known for their distinct call that travels for miles. Their silhouette shape is used as the symbol for hope and they are worshiped by many who dwell in mountain regions.

All the halfelves, halforcs, halfogres and half-anything aren't mixes with humans, they're mixed with halflings. The common name for that race comes from all the halfbreeds it can spawn.

Halfbreeds cannot intermix with their own non-halfling race, but they can breed true with other races.

Orcs grow on trees and if they die after becoming an adult a sapling grows out of them.

They are the gametophytes of all trees evergreen trees on Solod. Any intercourse they have plants a polyploid seed in them, leading to new species of trees.

There are monasteries of semi-chaste orc monks dedicated to the preservation of the original orc forests.

Elves are not promiscuous. They can only have vaginal penetrative sex with one partner (race doesn't matter). Once they do they form a permanent bond with their partner and the Elf tree god drops an acorn to be planted which represents the bonding. The members of the bonding live as long as their personal tree lives.

Orcs are a tribe of humans who were touched by the deep. They have a fishlike appearance and can breathe underwater. They are still savage warlike pillagers.
>>
>>32237414
Meat, bones and fur? This makes a lot for a single beast. Why not just their fur, and leaving the other stuff to other mammals?

I'm thinking of giant tree-eating worms. Like a leech, except big enough to be able to ever so slowly absorb a tree from beneath the ground. And when I say slowly, I mean that it takes a month or so for them to fully absorb and digest a whole tree - more if the tree is particularly tall.

The idea is that the process isn't visible to the naked eye, and that people draw traits on trees with chalk in order to spot the locations of the giant tree-eating leeches. Why? Because they're easy to kill and taste good.
>>

Among the Dark Lords are the Six Grandlords.

Ashox the Creeping Darkness creator of the Merfolk. He appears as a multi-armed shadow with three blue eyes.

Egd the Sleeping- He crushes the earth with his eternal mass turning it into the crystals used by Deep Dwellers.

Lug the Grinning who is rumored to have hidden the heat stone in his gullet. He created the Halflings and allowed them to rebel.

Horzx the Silent. She created salt and the Drowned Dead, undead found at the bottom of the deep.

Illmnn the Beached, the first Deep Lord to walk the surface lands of the Deep and to begin sinking them.

So they're kinda like Changelings.
I think "Elves" get a certain state of mind called The Call, in which they need to search out the nearest part of undisturbed nature and meditate.

Whether the Call goes out earlier or later depends on the amount of stress they endure. This also has made elves unable to wage extended war, instead focusing on assassination, skirmishes and politicking in order to remain relatively free of extended conflict.
>>
>>32238275
Merfolk are creatures of the deep of various forms and shapes. The older a merfolk is the more composite their body looks. Instead of eating creatures they instead bond them to their bodies.

But I thought we were going with exposure to another cosmic sea?
>>
My 2cents on this setting, after reading it all:
>Orcs
Since they are without Breath and without Pulse, they do not require air and do not bleed. But since they are born in Death's shadow, they cannot regenerate themselves as the other races do. Scars will never heal, and healing magic will very rarely work; Only the ones that also deal with reversing the flow of Time will work. So, Orcs will try to repair themselves using what available 'advanced' material is available; They can augment themselves with both metal and crystal.
>tl;dr I get a Warforged vibe off the Orcs, yet they're more organic than warforged.

Another idea:
Trolls are one of the minions of The Deep. Their homes are places under bridges where water and land is close. They emerge into being whenever arguments gets too heated near some water; Either one of the arguing parties slowly turn into a Troll, or a Troll materializes nearby and jumps into the discussion. This is one of the reasons why the Lizardfolk prefer fighting over arguing for too long; Their humid locale will invite too many Trolls into existence.
>>
>>32238452
>But I thought we were going with exposure to another cosmic sea?
I am >>32238358 and that could actually have been >>32236227 part of the science >>32238439 mentions.

Some strange process that made them less and more than human.

Independently of that, I suggest that appearance wise they have fairly sharp features, have all black/all white eyes and tend to speak in voices way too deep for their lithe frames, and even if you're standing right next to one, it still sounds like its voice is coming from afar.
>>
>>32236157
>>32238358
The Call seems like a good justification of humans having more endurance. One vote in favour.
>>
>>32238275
Alright, this is getting a little too complicated and I'm getting sleepy. Hope someone else handles the races and commodities.
>>
>>32238482
Trolls being born of arguments is a little too meta.

Junkpunk Orc-borgs are cool, so long as the still spread the seeds of plant life.
>>
Solod has no seas, only rivers and lakes. The south is where most of them are located as that is where the rains are strongest, while the north has more plains lands.

The Deep no longer has any major continents, there are remnants of them in the form of various island chains.
>>
>>32238637
Yeeeah the Trolls thing is kinda weak in retrospect. But the Orc thing spreading plants is possible:
Orcs generally do not feel anything because they lack the Breath and the Pulse. This causes them to ignore whatever small organisms that may dwell on their bodies. Sometimes, some Orcs get caked with enough dirt that plants grow out of them; the Orcs pay no mind to this. Some even purposely plants seeds in their wounds, so the resulting plantform that grew will provide them with the regeneration they lack.

It's kinda like a poor Orc's replacement for metals or crystals. As a result they spread life inadvertently.
>>
>>32238719
It's stated here that orcs are born from and give birth to trees here:>>32237522
>>
>>32238637
I honestly prefer the idea of mountain trolls, 12 foot, hunched over giant/ monstrous beasts, who spend so much time in mountainous regions they incorporate large rocks and crystals into their back (smaug style) as protection and camo, eating mushrooms and herding sheep
>>
>>32238747
Crystals are more a Deep thing, but if they're from the deep it could be they eat rocks like orcs do, but instead the pressure of their gullets turn the rocks into crystals.

The first Trolls fell from a rain from Egd.
>>
>>32238772
So they shit crystals?
Because of this, they are sometimes accused of being servants of the Deep Ones.
>>
>>32238833
The crystals actually cut their insides and force their way out of the body, because of their regenerative abilities they are stuck jutting out of their body.

Fire causes their regeneration to halt because they really are natives to the Deep.

The halflings worship Lord Luck and Lady Chance, the first halflings and ancestors to all halflings.

Humans worship the seven dragons equally in name, but in practice Magic is worshiped the most.

The Lizardfolk worship Nabu-zikir-iksun, but seeing as the Dragon Light is the sun, it is merely a personal name for him, one that the Lizardfolk believe is his true name.

Orcs worship the trees of the darkness that first gave birth to them.

Elves do not seek worship of the Dragons, they are too focused on the Call.

Dwarves worship Time more so than any other.

Merfolk do not worship the Deep Lords, they serve their dark masters.

Dwarves and orcs, born from a something live as long as their body remains stable.
Orcs tend to breed a lot because of their junkpunk composition.
Great dwarves smiths or crystal carvers live longer than others because of their work condition (presence of the forge tends to cook the clay they are made of; crystal dust impregnate the flesh)

You want an artifact? Have the Tear of Darkness.

According to the legend behing it, the Tear of Darkness was produced when Darkness gave up on chasing Light for the first time. Light taunted it from a distance, mocking its ability to not catch his own twin. Darkness then turned itself to Magic, and asked it why is it that he's doomed to chase his brethren while Dreams and Memory seems to get along so well.

Magic answered that this is the way things are. That even almighty gods such as themselves can't rewrite the laws of the universe. Darkness pondered his words, then decided to do a thing no mortals nor gods in their sane mind would have considered doing: he took a single drop of the cosmic sea, and absorbed it.

The essence of the Deep was inside him. But this was not the essence of the Deep: it was also what he was made of, before the Heatstone came and boiled him into existence. It was both what is, and what is not. And it reminded him of what he felt when he was born; it reminded him of his first sight, which was the very reason he was Darkness, and Light was Light.

With this newfound wisdom, he shed a single tear upon Solod, in the kingdom of the orcs; and he then returned to his endless chase.

Well at least that's how the legend goes. To this day, most people think this tale is naught but subtle heretic propaganda, aiming to present the Deep as something else than an abomination nest. That being said, there's no doubt that the Tear exists; it's mentioned every so often in tales of war and travel as inducing either or both wisdom and cynism in those that interact with it, and those tales are too often close to real, witnessed events for it to be a simple coincidence.

What's interesting, though, is that all of those that allegedly saw the Tear refused to tell anyone of its location, or what it looks like.
>>
>>32238890
Well Ao is explicitly a Prophet of the Dragon Gods, so I guess there are human prophets. Though Elves, Darves, Humans and Lizardfolks are probably most fitted to be sages than the other races, since the others aren't that close to Death to begin with, and Death is kinda sorta the one in charge of mortals-gods communication.

Slowly Kauhxra began to hear its dark whispers and began to follow them. The more he followed it the more power it grant him over weaker minds. He had the power to read and control minds.

One day he had a heated argument with his own sister. She would not let him know her thoughts or control her.

So they began a duel. The Prince had won but would not end the duel after first blood at the behest of the Crown. After realizing she was dead, he acted his last act as himself and killed himself.

Faes are magic creature that travel through dreams and habitat memories, is a well fact that they like to change people dreams , most of times in a nightmare, but what pretty much no one know is that they can also change memories. They considered the absolutely best way to get information out of someone, but they're incredible hard to capture or the get one to help, and are not very interested in what the other races can offer.

They were created by Magic to show his love to both Dreams and Memory.
>>
Due to the nature of magic Spellsingers/dancers spends more time on rigorous, physical exercise than studying old tomes. They need their bodies in top physical condition for the casting. In many cultures some basic forms of magic became a part of the custom - mostly in rural areas where fertility songs and harvest dances are a crucial part of agriculture. Those 'folk' spells however are way weaker than what dedicated mages are capable of - they'll augment but won't replace the three-field system and fertilizer.

Elves make for the best spellsingers - they have a broader scale of voice and can reach tones other races cannot even hear. It sometimes gives cause to rumors that Elves are Breathless since you can't hear them cast. Also, being susceptible to The Call prevents them from attempting longer, more complex, spells.

Humans are by far the strongest casters - they can sing and dance their spells for hours.
>>
>>32241346
Alright guys, there's this entry on Goblins in this very thread:

"Goblins are all scholars who burrow out huge hives like bees, then set about collecting any knowledge they can get their hands on and storing it - raiding other races for books, artifacts, and other things of note to add to their collection. Compulsive hoarders."

Do we keep that or not? If we do, I'm gonna need some more fluff, because they don't have any origins yet.
>>
>>32241495
Keep it and make them child of Memory.

You could also add that they like to hoard thing other than knowledge and go around the world trading things.
>>
>>32241495
I think it's pretty interesting.
-Death once again wanted to make new experiments and offered a race dedicated to Memory. Flattered, it accepted the gift, expecting something beautiful and wise, but instead, was presented with disgusting greenish creatures. Not wanting to be related to them, it cast a powerful magic that made the Goblin's memory very weak.
But since they were created with the purpose of remembering, they started keeping things and records of everything.
"I may not remember, but I know where to find it." Is a common quote among the goblin folk.
-changes and additions are welcome.
>>
>>32241654
>it cast a powerful magic that made the Goblin's memory very weak.

I don't like this piece, I think that the mere
disgust and deception that Memory have made them have a weak memory.

The rest is pretty damn great.

Elves can reproduce in two ways: The way their long-lost human forefathers used to, and in a a ritual called the Rite of Joining.
During the rite, a human is brought into the Wild, after which each parent mixes a drop of their blood with a drop of the human's in a silver bowl along with other ingredients.

The father, the mother and the prospective child each take a sip, then the parents breathe into him like people saving someone from drowning.
Within the following 36 hours, the Change takes hold, the various physical and mental characteristics of the Elves emerging one after another.

This is the (unfounded?) origin of the rumour of elves stealing children.
>sorry for the weird writing style

Yeah, I think that making just it's godly disgust cause such important change to them has a more interesting tone. And is kind of ironic because it's will to not be associated with such creatures only gave them a characteristic that creates such association, the lack of memory still recalls "memory".
Also, they could heavily worship Memory, not knowing that it actually dislikes them, avidly trying to train their memory,
Goblins with better memory are respected and selected as "leaders".
The hives have a small social organization, in which the "wisest" take decisions that are then followed (or not, since most of them forget such things) by the others.
The overall goblinoid population have a nearly 2/1 male/female ratio.
They build the hives in a square pattern instead of hexes in such fashion that they look like enormous libraries with shelves full of random objects and all sorts of books and notes.

Kauhxra is the larger of the two Lizardfolk nations. It's in the lowlands and is spread across a mixture of jungle, swampland and a bit of savannah to the north that they've mostly used for farmland. The capital city is Nabelygal-Murraenos, built over a lake with the feathered serpent in it. Many of the buildings float, and great mats of floating gardens feed the fish that are eaten by the lizardfolk.
In times of trouble, the Senate appoints a dictator with absolute power. This dictator is kept in check by the Green-Walkers, a loose organisation of statist assassins who murder those who have abused their power or overstayed their welcome. Many is the overambitious dictator who's ended up with a razor-sharp (kpinga-style) throwing knife buried in his head, out of fear of Egrdril's interference.

The Nascheii Theocracy is situated across the Istarnatl mountain range. The title for most important structure is fiercely competed for by the cities of Cuazhec-Loxodoka, home of the priest-kings and situated across a magical bridge between two great mountains, and the much larger Machurazh, built inside of a mountain and home of the majority of the great terrace farms that keep Nascheii fed and the mines that keep it rich. There is a priest-king for each god the lizardmen hold dear, chosen from the greatest of that god's priest-caste, and they lose their names upon ascension. Both males and females become known as kings, for they believe there is no true distinction

We could do both.

The circlet is the original way and don't need other elves blood to turn a human, it work every time and even ins adults. Mostly used to turn individuals that proved their worth.

The blood bond is the primary way of reproduction, need blood from the parents and the human, but only works in child and have a good chance of failing and killing the human in process.

Nabu-zikir-iskun, the Sun King - the highest king, lord of the magical schools and to whom the others ultimately kowtow.
Istar-su-mes-ses, the Dead King - the only king to live in Machurazh, they overlooks the mines and the rites of the dead.
En-hedu-anna-aei, the Forest King - responsible for looking after the farms and medicines.
Bel-sarra-uzur, the Sky King - royal weathervane
Dur-i-galzu, the Cold King, the Pariah King. the Cold King wanders aimlessly, ever looking for and rooting out the influence of the Deep Ones and the Cold Queen.

In the lizardrealms, the preferred method of travel is the Ashurdun, a large, surprisingly nimble and agile reptile somewhere between a horse, an ox and a mountain goat. Whilst not as fast as the average equid, it can travel overland with a bizarre serene grace that makes it inordinately comfortable to ride and it can traverse the most nail-biting ascents with comfort.

Oh hey, pdf dude here. Here's the third draft.

It's more rushed than the others because I now have to go stuff including, but not limited to, having inner. So here's the link of what's next to streamline and put in the PDF, if someone wants to carry on with my duty: https://mega.co.nz/#!850FwLwC!ZyZw_uXxczJowpVpmIHldog6ZP92IWgLZ9Z5QLloLUM

Humankind's greatest hero and revered as a saint was a simple watchtower guardsman who ran a marathon and managed to warn of an impending invasion (of what depends on the locality) before dying of exhaustion. The humans would later win a great victory because of this warning.

This act of self sacrifice for the greater good has motivated every major human society and city and forms the base of what is manly, honourable and just to human kind. That ay man or woman can push themselves to their absolute limits for their countrymen.

Humans always pride themselves on length of the sex.

Giants as simple, gentle creatures born from the mountains and made of rock make sense as relatives of the Dwarves?
>>
>>32242694

>>
Skin of stone, flesh of mud, Dwarves are creatures of the earth. As a race indelibly marked by both Death and The Deep, they bleed alcohol, the fire-water. Quaffing barrel after barrel to maintain the delicate balance within their bodies, Dwarves are near impossible to out-drink.

Masters of the earth, Dwarves are fluent in its use in all its forms. They are the pioneers of iron and steelworks, and are just as capable of crafting crystal and gems.

They are capable of flame and breath, but owing to their flammable constitution and penchant for drinking, such an act is considered extremely reckless.

How about this : Giants are, usually, highly intelligent but lazy beyond comprehension.
They could create marvels beyond imagining, but holy fuck, the amount of fucks they don't give needs a giant or a god to fully comprehend.

The only "thing beyond eating, sleeping and star gazing they care about is telling or reading stories, and it's not unheard of to have a Giant settlement comprised solely of improvised sleeping places and a truly gigantic library at the Center as a means to protect their precious books.

They gaze at the stars, trying to understand, to comprehand the universe. They devote their lives to unraveling the misteries of cosmos (hence their lack of numbers).

Orcs are the creatures of Darkness, born among the ashen leaves of the first Trees, Darkness' gift to Death. They are sometimes known as the Kingdom of Nether, unseen and unheard by the other children of Death.
They are without Breath nor Pulse. They need no air to breath, nor do they bleed. But as those born in Death's shadow, they are unable to regenerate or recover. Scars will never heal, and healing magic will very rarely work; Only the ones that also deal with reversing the flow of Time will work. And so, Orcs try to repair themselves using what available 'advanced' material is available, augmenting themselves with metal or crystal, or even other plants should they find themselves lacking.

When an adult Orc dies, from its corpse shall spring a sapling, slowly growing into a massive tree that will itself birth new orcs in time. They are the gametophytes of all trees evergreen trees on Solod. Any intercourse they have plants a polyploid seed in them, leading to new species of trees. There are monasteries of semi-chaste orc monks dedicated to the preservation of the original orc forests.

Watachilen are one of the most hated foes of the Kauhxra lizardfolk, despite having all the intelligence of a stupid fox. In the words of the High Farmer Tlazarn
>It is as if every facet of these damnable creatures is designed to infuriate us!
The adults hunt the wide variety of game fish, birds and amphibians that the floating gardens are meant to feed to a much higher degree than they need to survive. Watachilen infestations are often signified by the appearance of poorly-dug shallow holes in the lake banks that have half-eaten duck or frog slowly rotting in them.
The young, or Chilespawn, gnaw at the roots of the crops with voracious appetite, destroying the fragile crops during the growing season when the Chilespawn hatch from their jellied eggs. The eggs themselves are poisonous, and thus the lakes are flooded with toxic dead game.
The faeces of both adults and young are rich in nutrients and float. While this may seem like a good thing, providing fuel for plants, the white excrement forms a foul-smelling layer on the water's surface that soon blossoms into vast algal mats that choke the lakes, preventing lake-floor plants from photosynthesising and fish and amphibians from breathing. These poor bastards will soon die off, and then fuel even more algal growth that cannot be eaten, interferes with waterfowl and game animals, and steals nutrition from the valuable crops.

To top it off, they produce a thick cloying slime when threatened that makes them damned difficult to catch, and when caught and killed it takes a lot of preparation to make a Watachile edible. In the ages of the lizardfolk city-states, they were used as biological weapons until the Treaty of Tlakintapixe where it was unanimously declared that this was unsporting.

Legends say that the first undead came from an ancient civilization from the eastern mountains. Their emperor worshiped Death, and became worthy enough to receive Death's blessings. Unable to part with one of its beloved playthings for the first time, Death removed them from the cycle of birth and rebirth.

Death deliberately hides their presence from the other dragons, ashamed that life was breathed back into what was once dead, Death has also found something it loves dearly for the first time. They are the Beloved Children of Death, kept away from their parent for far too long by Death's eternal duty. Could this be the sign of a rebellion on Death's part?

While not evil, the undead are very private and defensive, not suffering the interference of outsiders for any reason, whatsoever. Though they are considered to be the pinnacle of Necromancy, they themselves treat the art as a shamanistic ritual, relying mostly on intuition and apprenticeship to use it.

One of the main (ALMOST the only) forms of magi c practised by the Giants is enchanting. Most uses are related to warding off thieves.
True to the nature of Giants, most are related to slowing and stalling.

Traps and wards used range from simple things like ichor pits to more exotic applications such as ones encasing its victim in bubbles of frozen time, knocking them unconscious or assaulting their minds with a full realization of the vastness of the universe.

Most of these traps are rarely deadly, but often traumatising and always humiliating, and the slow, ponderous way in which freed victims are carried and subsequently dumped outside the village only makes it worse.

Giants refer to the process of removing caught thieves from their traps and dumping them outside the settlement as clean up duty and tend to, uh... feel vaguely annoyed with it.
Giants don't hate things after all.
That would mean effort.

Humans are the best magicians as per >>32241467

Dwarven stocky build does not allow for the flashy spectacle of Elves nor do they have the endurance for powerful rituals of Human spellcraft.

What they DO have is patience and deliberation. They are, after all, of the rock. Dwarven spelldances are slow and methodical and their spellsongs are a low, modulated hum. Stronger spells are cast in turns - the caster (or casters) sings and dances only a certain portion of the spell and, at a predetermined moment, another joins in and gradually takes their place. This method of casting takes up much more time but is capable of producing results as strong as human magic.
>>
The name 'Wood Elf' is rather more correct than one would imagine - they are elves formed from bark or plant. Where the regular elf is naught but a twisted man, wood elves are made from trees - indeed, it is suspected that they are to orcs as elves are to men. How close to elves they look varies between specimens, with some being shuffling trees and others looking like a human with a slight illness. As they age, however, they become drier and more brittle, their features becoming sallow and dehydrated so they slowly drift from their similarity to man. With this brittleness, their already strong fear of fire grows greatly, and as such they fear magic unlike any other.

The whole point of interpretive dance is that it's interpretive. It means something different to each person who sees it. This makes for a shit common tongue.

"The battle of the drowning crater.
"So, they say that Lady Eliza is a fair ruler, a great leader, but what do they know about the drowning war?"

Solod, the moonworld, has seen many battles and bloodshed is as frequent as a newborn.
In the central portion of the lightlands, located northwest of a great canyon, was the human settlement of Nedgångsten. For many generations it was a prosperous land, home of timid and honored people and a prided army. It was during the reign of the ruthless Lady Eliza Gulsvärd, daughter of an influential merchant, that took place the so called first contact between the living and the drowned dead.

"We were expecting the rain season to star in two months but look at the sky. I bet you never saw clouds this big, that's because those aren't clouds, they're simply water- It's almost as if the heavens were about to pour down on us"

Months after the harvest season, Nedgångsten's climate started to change drastically, what was expected to be a dry and warm season turned into a wet and cold nightmare. It all started with a suddenly shift in the winds, followed by an entire eclipsed day in which Solod stood between the Light and The Deep, the light once again filled the day, revealing a massive body of water in the sky.

"It's been two weeks of holding grounds against those godsalted things. Our support from the hills should have arrived by yesterday, we're all gonna die in this salted land" -Excerpt from commander Markhur's field journal.

Moonsilver is one of the most sought-after metals by alchemists and weaponsmiths (often those two overlap) alike.

It is used in a variety of weapons in the form of protective runes meant to ward the Deep Lords >>32236463
curses.

In addition, it is known to be one of the metals most suited to holding enchantments, and most high-class magical gear contains it in trace amounts.
While forging chainmail out of the rare material is costly, it also allows its wearer to move with the same ease, speed and stealth as if they were wearing mere cloth.

The production requires a special rite in which dwarves and elves chant in unison, the former forging the silver of their mines while calling upon darkness, while the elves channel the light of the full moon into the liquid metal.

This process turns the silver a lighter colour, causing it to faintly shine in the dark.

Even wars will be set aside for this ritual, and leaders who forbade it due to personal grudges quickly found themselves helpless in the face of sheer mercantile interest.

Freshly forged moonsilver needs to stay out of the sun for three days before being safe from turning into useless dust.

When reforging it (this can be done up to two times), the smith chants a special song, which both elves and dwarves alike call "asking" the metal to take on its new form.
Indeed, moonsilver has a hidden property which allows it to store memories, something which certain places use to allow their legacy to continue unforgotten.

The temple to Dream and Memory is a stadium anchored (don't say float, it's ANCHORED there, even if the thusly offended mages usually don't know the exact difference) in the sky. Every beginning, middle and ending of a Light cycle, it is home to the Prayer of Steel, an immensely impressive, extremely showy display of blade mastery in which 101 warrior priests show off their skills at dancing according to an exactly choreographed plan.

Taking part in the dance is one of the highest honours a blademaster can achieve, and conversely, having partaken in such a rite is a validation comparable to little else.

This, but let's wait for page 10.
>>
>>32246654
It kinda hurts seeing this beautiful monster sinking through the pages.
>>
>>32246699
I know. I've been there.

>>32246681
I guess that works.

Anyways. Deep Rain, ya?
>>
OP, you still here? Gonna make a final setting doc before this 404s?
>>
>>32246654
'tis already archived.
>>
So, no one came up with key locations?
>>
>>32246934
>So, no one came up with key locations?
I will if nobody else does, but it feels like I already had too many ideas approved. Don't wanna hog the setting all for myself.
>>
why not just name the setting after the supreme being, Altius?
>>
>>32247026
I like that, simple and good.
>>
>>32247026
I dunno, Deep Rain seems more atmospheric and easier to remember.
>>
>>32246983
Dude, all help is welcome, it's not your fault if your ideas are good and accepted. (That actually should be a good thing.)
I did the two first posts about fairies and added the stuff for the goblins. Stopped contributing because my story about the first highest tide wasn't flowing well. I think that if you have an idea it is worth reading.
>>
>>32247085
Why not Deep Breath?
>>
>>32247145
Welp. Fine then, gonna cook something up in that case. Just don't expect anything lizard outta me. I don't get those people.
Goblins be cool yo.
>>
>>32247197
Yeah I like that.
>>
>>32247197
More apt, less pretty, more prone to inviting puns. It could work, but I can't say I'm a fan quite yet.

It's been an honor digressing with you guys.
I'll be here tomorrow hopefully.

can we just agree on something? I really don't want to miss next thread.
>>
>>32247247
"Take a deep breath and welcome to Solod a world where magic is in the very air that you breathe."
>>
>>32247197
I can run with that
>>
The Villaison Towerette is the last remaining building of the ancient and vast Garvaille Empire that covered half of the known world. Some scraps of highly advanced roadworks can be found scattered across as well. Some say the statues known as the Warring Gargants are of Garvaille origin as well.

May Dreams look over your sleep, comrade.
>>
>>32247332
Deep Rain or Atlius for me.
>>32247340
Eeeh. I won't drop or complain should Deep Breath win, but this is doing the opposite of convincing me the name's anything but bait for jokes that'll be driven into a wall harder than Diana's limousine.
>>
>>32247402
Same here, though I highly prefer Atlius over Deep rain.
>>
>>32236060
It's been literally half a day since this started. I'm going to get some rest, and pray to find this tomorrow. Tomorrow, I'll (hopefully) manage to streamline anything posted in this thread until now in a pdf, and try to organize it a little.

Thanks /tg/. Just... freaking thanks.
>>
I suggested Deep Breath because the Rain is not a very important event and Atlius doesn't speak much about the setup.
I also made the pun.[/poiler]
>>
>>32247402
>>32247446
I would prefer to not name the setting after something that literately has all its influence in one line.

That's like naming a show Big Bang.
>>
>>32247579
Pun rhymes with fun. I hate fun.

Sprites, or Elf-flies are parasites accidentally introduced by the 'true elves' when they delivered their first elves to Solod. Nasty little things, they have a natural aura of pervasive, insidious magic powered by an intricate weaving of their five heads and the beating of their powerful wings in imitation of breath. This single spell makes them almost invisible when looked at directly and nigh-impossible to focus upon. They can only be seen in the corners of one's eye, darting around in peripheral vision.

[I'm not sure quite where to go next. I'm making them parasites, but need some nice horrifying symptoms. Not sure what they eat either.]
>>
>>32247613
Sprites eat dreams and leave behind sadness and regret.
>>
>>32247654
This also causes sleep deprivation and its symptoms
>>
>>32247654
Their young encourage REM sleep and outgoing social behaviour.

This is so the adults have more to feed off of.
>>
>>32247681
And a reduction to one's overall heat. (Guy gets colder and less magical)
>>
>>32247613
As they are not native to Light eyes, they are composed of Neither.
>>
>>32247727
>>32247681
A victim that's been fed on once can be fed on with increasing ease subsequent times. Sprites mark their victims, causing more sprites to be attracted to the marked one.

This is called a Preysigil and incredibly hard to remove.
When a victim has been bled dry they fall into a coma-like, dreamless type of sleep not quite unlike hibernation which they're nearly impossible to wake from. On the "upside", they also require close to no sustenance in this state, so as long as the body is kept safe there is hope of the person recovering.

Those who return however tend to become Shadowleeches, beings with the curse/ability to feed on emotions themselves and a nearly irresistible desire to do just that.
Whether letting an infectee die for good in the light of these circumstances is subject to quite a bit of debate.

New thread when?
If created, someone post the link on this one, just in case.
>>
>>32248074
I'm just sitting it out here till we're on page ten, myself.
Besides, I know I have a couple talents related to writing, but thread OPs have been my Achilles heel since I first got on the internet. I really wouldn't want to be the one responsible for messing up.

All form of dance-based magic is called Momod. It is only capable of inervation - that is, granting and amplifying energy. Heat, fire, lightning, movement, acceleration, speed, creation, healing... those are but some of its domains. It is best suited to the process of transfer between one aspect of breath to another - for instance, Igniting Light, then making it Survive. (Inhalation to Survival)

The magic of the merfolk and other Deep creatures is called Sosep by the peoples of the Dragons, which translates roughly to the metaphysical concept of absence and stillness. Sosep is practiced by intense meditation and motionlessness - by remaining still, energy is drawn in, enervating objects. This allows for slowing of objects, rot, freezing, solidification, and so on. Sosep is best suited to focusing on a single aspect of breath, as opposed to processes of aspects. For instance, Sosep is best at Igniting a very strong Light (inhalation), but not at progressing it to its next aspect, Survival (circulation).

Dragons everywhere and the setting's on the moon? So Lunar, basically. I can dig it.

This OP is kinda messed up, I think, shouldn't it be more informative?
Nice pic. though.
