YOU ARE LOLI,

and you've just faced down an angry Controller.
Its body topples backwards slowly, crashing to the floor lifelessly as Dave casually tosses the huge pistol back to you.

With the mind assault over, Kris, Ice and Doggy recover themselves quickly enough. Doggy slinks over to your side, nuzzling into your legs with a nervous whine. You run a comforting hand over his head, brushing between his ears to calm him.
Kris and Ice, pale-faced and shaking, stagger back to you. Both of them note the wet patch on your trouser thighs and crotch, but refrain from comment, instead directing their attention to the fresh corpse in the middle of the group.

"So," Ice says, "job's done. We heading back now?"
Vasa still seems a little too shaken to think clearly, and Dave is intently looking anywhere but you, apparently lost in thought.

[ ]Head back to Skadovsk in silence. That was disturbing, and no-one's up for chatter.

Tell Kris to stop changing her name to Vasa, it's confusing poor Kaleun. Fuck knows he has enough to think about just holding his trip.

You feel self-hatred flow through your body, making you sick in your stomach as you realize this is the second time you've had your mind invaded, and not been strong enough to resist. You look up from the ground, meaning to ask Dave how he managed to stay so calm throughout; only to find him enthusiastically inspecting a small twig he produced from who-knows-where.

Ice takes Kris' hand, and gently leads her towards Eliza. The both of them quickly mount up, and you make haste to follow. Eliza rotates in place and rolls out, her machine gun coughing once on the way out to mercilessly cut down a shuffler who's standing in the road.
You're rounding the corner before Dave suddenly snaps back to attention and sprints the distance to the tank and jumps up onto the skirts beside you.
A little way down the road, you manage to catch his attention. "Dave. How did you... stay so calm

"Hnn~. Ie did not," he tells you, head tilted heavily to one side. "That whould be impossible. Ie simply, knew what a Controller could do."

You give him a quizzical look, not following. He makes some gestures with his hands, as though trying to physically mold his thoughts into words.
"It should not be able to make a wall explode." He splays his fingers with the word. "Therefore, Ie guessed it must be a trick, whose purpose was to make us move. As soon as you moved, you allowed his trick to affect you, which is like sending an invitation to invade you further."
He ends his explanation there, though you're not sure you completely understand what he meant.

[1/2]

>Missing an entire line there. Not sure how that happened.
"Dave. How did you... stay so calm when all that was happening? How did you know the illusions were illusions? How did you keep it out of your head?"
>>
>>32237317
The rest of the trip back is ridden out in silence. It's not until you're coming to the edge of the river bed where you need to dismount that Kris finally takes her hand from Ice and hops down, looking perkier, back to her usual self.
"This'll be a story to tell, huh Loli? Taking down a Controller! Not many can say they've done that! Hahaha!" Her bubbly laughter brings a small smile to yourself as you follow her down the slope towards Skadovsk.

You've barely managed to open the door to the bar before you're shouted at by Beard. "You're back, girl! Damned good timing!" The patrons in general, you quickly note, are not at their usual places at the tables drinking and talking quietly among themselves. Instead, they're standing about generally looking nervous or agitated. A few mutter your name, and some whispers of thanks to God or the Zone hover around you.

You respond in confusion, "what, what is it?"

"One of our veteran squads got captured by bandits," he tells you bluntly, crossing the room to meet you. Something he's never done before. "We were about to send out another team to help them, but if you're here, we might be able to do it without losing any more of our boys."

Ask for a few minutes to restock our supplies/ammo and change our gear, then check on Vasa.

After we've done all that ask for details.

Also, we really need to start wearing armor that fits us and not random dresses, the number of times we've been shot in the arms/legs is getting absurd, I don't mind wearing the outfits for a quick payday, but we gotta protect ourselves with better armor.

Also, before I forget, collect our pay for the controller job.

>Since the previous time it was requested, Beard has been having his supplies stitch Kevlar plates into the outfits wherever possible. It's nowhere near as good as a proper armored suit, but it's equal to or better than most other things on the available market.

You said it yourself, it ain't as good.

We need something to wear when we're doing serious work on serious jobs, and not our frilly dresses and outfits

we have a PDA, she has a PDA, we can call her and check in, let her know whats happening.

We'd probably need a shit ton of cash to get one made that fits us. Sadly we haven't been raking in the artifacts to sell, so probably the best option is to hope for an outfit that actually covers more so we can get it via the jobs instead of saving up for it.
>>
>>32237365
You tell him to hold on a moment as you pass him, aiming for the back corner. Once there, you slip off your stained panties and outfit. As much as you hate the idea of it, you have nothing else on hand you use your own clothes to mop yourself 'clean'. You vow to find a way to wash yourself properly soon, but for now you quickly slip into your:

Once decent again, you step out into the bar again. Kris waves to you, "okay, I've got our pay for the Controller! I told the bearded pervert we want ammo, food, water and more first aid kits, he's grabbing a few for us now."
You thank her, and wait for him to come back. When he returns, he seems even more agitated than before.

"Okay. What was it you wanted?" You ask him as he hands Kris' rucksack loaded full of supplies back to her.

He looks between the two of you, with the crowd suddenly going quiet as you listen in, and tells you the situation. "One of our mutant hunter teams was out near the village. What they thought was a mutant nest turned out to be a bandit trap. One of them managed to escape, he's upstairs getting treated. The others all got captured. Now the bandits are asking for ransom for them, and threatening to kill them all if we try anything funny, or don't pay up. We don't have the kind of money they're asking for though!"

"How much are they worth to you?" Your question seems to catch him by surprise.

"Wha- hmm, well the ransom being demanded is a hundred thousand for all three of them, but we don't have that sort of money to spare! The best we can really offer would be..." he glances over his shoulder at a handful of veterans in the corner of the room. One of them holds up ten fingers, then folds five down. "...fifteen, and that's pushing it."
Kris leans in close to you. "That would be enough for us to kit out everything we need, and then some. We could probably even improve some of our gear with that sort of money."

"Alright, how long do we have to get them out? What can you do to help?"

He answers readily enough, "they've given us a day to get the money, but there isn't much we can do to help. If you've got a plan to break them out, I'm sure we can get volunteers to help you out but..." he trails off, not finishing his thought.
You give him a non-committal nod before turning to the others. "What do you guys think?"

Ice speaks instantly, "a frontal assault is suicide, and would get them killed." Kris nods her agreement.

"Fighting our way in is right out. Bargaining won't be possible if we don't have anything to trade. I honestly don't know what to say. Maybe bluff them into thinking we have something and drawing them out? I don't know if they'd be stupid enough to take it, though."

Dave's eyes suddenly sparkle as he drops into the conversation. "Ie, have an idea." He pauses for a long moment as everyone fixes their eyes on him. "If we let ourselves be captured, we could break free and fight our way, out alongside them. They'll never, see it coming."

Ice and Kris instantly explode into arguments, shouting at Dave that he's crazy, and that there's no way they'd risk it. But you can't see another way...

"You think I whould put us in danger without thinking that far ahead? Please, I know hkow men like these tick. I know we can break out."

Kris speaks out again. "Loli, this is insane. What if they don't capture you and just kill you? What if you can't break out?"

"Well," you say, "we'll leave you, Ice and Eliza outside. If me and Dave can't handle it, you can break us out, right?" She huffs at your answer.

"I don't like it. If you're going to be stupid, I'd rather be in there too."

Dave agrees, "it would be easier to escape with all of us."

"It's not like we can crew Eliza," Ice points out dryly, "and we could leave her 'abandoned' outside. They'd never see THAT coming."

You perk up at a thought, "wait, how many bandits are there? And where are they?"

Beard gives you an answer instantly, "we're not sure. Probably more than a dozen at least, close to twenty at a high count. They're holed up in the old sawmill for now. Apparently they cleared out the zombies in the area, but those things always come back in time. Probably why they've given us a time limit, they know they can't stay there long."

>>
>>32238326

>>
>>32238326
That's still our stuff. And if they haven't found it, maybe we can use it to our advantage. That is if our short attention span can remember how to get to it.

And if they have found it, they'll just have to be punished.

As for the tank thing, we COULD possibly use Eliza as a trojan horse of sorts? We leave her unattended, bandits drive her back to their base (assuming any of them can drive a tank) and she lets rip once inside. I think both are interesting plans.
>>
>>32238149
You decide you've got something like a working plan together, and tell Beard not to worry. You'll all be back safe and sound soon enough! The five of you leave the bar, once more heading back up the slope to Eliza.

The sawmill is barely a minute's drive away by tank, and you find yourself coming to a stop by the small bridge crossing the dried tributary between you and the old saw mill. You can see a handful of men standing guard by the holes in the fence, rifles at the ready and all looking in your direction.

Doggy hops off the back of the tank and scurries into the underbrush out of sight as the four of you dismount and trudge up the hill towards one of the waiting bandits, balaclava hiding his features.

"Dave!" The bandit greets your friend, "good ta see ya again, buddy!"

Dave squeals in excitement as he steps ahead of you to meet the man in a hug. The other bandits quickly surround you, standing uncomfortably close. They outnumber you six-to-fout, but you should still be able to escape if you wanted. "Ie did not think to see you hkere, Minty."

"Me either," the man says, "but it makes my life easier!" He gives a signal, and you feel a sharp crack to the back of your head. The world goes black.

Excellent, everything is going according to plan.
>>
>>32238517
see this is why I want Dave to explain his crazy shit before we get thrown in the middle of it all the time...
>>
>>32238517
When you come to, you find yourself strapped to a chair in front of a rickety wooden table in a small room of a ruined house. You groan in exasperation at the recurring situation, before looking around and checking your surroundings.

From the window behind you, you can see that you're at the bottom of the slope in the house near the sawmill. You've been out for a while, judging by the way night has fallen. Ice and Kris are absent, Dave is similarly strapped to a chair beside you, and a bandit is sitting in the corner opposite you, rifle across his knees. Seeing you wake up, he reaches out and raps his knuckles on the door beside him.

The door opens and an older looking man with a battle-scarred face saunters in. He walks right up to Dave and slaps him on the cheek. "Wakey wakey, Dave." He lines up for a second blow, but Dave suddenly snaps into consciousness and greets him with a smile.

"Good morning, Minty. Your tenderness alwhays warms my heart."

"Shut it, you crazy bastard. This is an interrogation. You remember those, right? You only get to speak when I ask you a question." Dave giggles in response.

Minty waves a hand to the bandit in the corner, who steps outside for a moment, then walks back in with a tray of surgical tools. He places it on the table beside Minty, who takes up a scalpel and inspects it in the dim light of the flickering candle on the shelf on the wall.
"Tell me, Dave. Where is the stash?"

"Oh, Minty, Minty, Mintyyy. You don't start an interrogation with the questioning! Ie taught you better than this! You start with the beatings, THEN get to the good stu-" he's cut off by Minty punching him full in the face. Dave topples back off the chair, cracking his head on the floor. "Kehehehe~! You never start with the head, my friend! That only dulls the senses for anything else you might do!"

[2/?]
>>
>>32238695
Half an hour of brutal torture later, you're wondering if there are any techniques in the world you HAVEN'T just witnessed. And all the while, Dave does not stop with his advice.

"Hkeat the scalpel up first, so you cut and burn at once. Otherwise, it barely hkurts at all!

"A car battery? Really? Everyone knows, you need at LEAST a truck battery if you, want to leave burns."

"Keep my head in the bucket for longer! If you let me catch my breath like this, it's hardly a punishment!"

"No, no, Ie said UNDER the fingernails. You'll never get good grip like THAT!"

As the man finally gets a good grip and starts to pull Dave's fingernails one by one, you finally start to feel nauseous. Again, Minty screams the one, same question that Dave refuses to acknowledge. "WHERE IS THE STASH, DAVE? We know you put it all here in the mill somewhere, just tell us where and how to get it and this will all stop."

Do they mean the stash you found...?

>>
>>32238794
>[X]If Dave hasn't said anything, it's part of the plan.

You opt to stay quiet, hoping that Dave knows what he's doing. And that he's not relying on that stash being full...

Suddenly, Minty throws the pliers to the ground in a scream or rage. "Alright, fine! Have it your way, if you want to die before telling me, we can arrange that! You," he gestures to the other man," bring the other two in."

The man steps out and rushes off to follow his instructions, and returns in short order with a group of three other bandits leading Kris and Ice. The two are sat down on the other two seats in the room, around the table. Kris to your left, Ice to your right. Dave sits opposite you.

As one of the bandits sets about cutting your and Dave's restraints, Minty draws a shiny silver revolver from inside his jacket. He empties the cylinder of rounds, then carefully slots one round in, so that all of you can see it. The bandits start muttering excitedly between themselves.

"Play," he orders, slamming the revolver down in front of Kris. "Play, or tell me where the stash is."

Kris stares down helplessly at the revolver before her. "I don't know what you're talking about, what stash? What are we even-" as she desperately looks around the room at everyone, she catches Dave's eye, and the utter terror on her features subsides. "Fine. I'll play."

She picks up the revolver, places it to her temple and looks to Dave, who gives her an almost imperceptible nod. She then looks Ice in the eyes. The most heartfelt smile you've ever seen her give crosses her lips as he watches in silent horror. She pulls the trigger.

The hammer drops on an empty chamber, and your brains don't redecorate the walls. You let your held breath escape as you pass the gun onto Ice.

"Play," Minty orders. Ice refuses to take the gun from you. "I said PLAY!"

Ice spits at Monty. "I'm not going to kill myself for your pleasure."

Fury overtaking him, Minty turns to grab a pistol from one of his men. Before he can do so, Dave reaches over the table to pull the pistol from you, turning it on Ice and pulling the trigger. The flash and cough of the pistol exploding into flame in the small room shocks everyone. Especially Ice, as he jumps in his chair, the round punching into his chest. He stares in utter shock at Dave for a long few seconds, before slowly collapsing forward onto the table, unmoving.

Dave casually hands the revolver to Minty. "The next round, please."

Kris is still staring at the unmoving body of Ice across from her, tears running freely but silent down her features as Minty loads the next round into the revolver.
With the way the crowd is acting now, you'd almost swear Dave was giving the orders around here, not Minty.

Spinning the cylinder, Dave laughs happily as he places the gun to his temple and pulls the trigger. CLICK. Then he points it at you and pulls again. CLICK.
Himself, twice more. Then he spins the cylinder and hands it to Kris.

She doesn't even look around as she numbly takes the proffered gun and fires it at herself. When it fails to fire, she hands it to you. Eyes still on Ice.

The bandits watch on in silence as you spin the cylinder. It comes to a stop and you look to Dave. (One more), he mouths at you.

a revolvers trigger is a big longer than on a radial or straight trigger from a semi-auto, and in double action a tiny bit heavier, but that is meaningless in the scale of things, and matters not to the biomechanics of the human hand, it would make no difference outside of accuracy, and we're less than 2 meters from this cunt, it ain't gonna slow us down
>>

>>

But how long will it take for us to fire two rounds? A persons reaction time can be less than 0.2 of a second, He might just jerk out of the way on reflex when we point a gun at him.

Fire it Dave first, then, screaming at him for shooting Ice. They probably won't have a problem buying that the little girl gets emotional. If it fires, fuck him, he said "one more" and would have let us shoot ourselves. If it doesn't, we can point it at Minty next.

>Wow, split debate? It looks like the Play Firsts have it.

Once more, you lift the revolver up and press it to your temple. The bandits watch on, seemingly almost as terrified as you are. When did they start being on your side? Shouldn't they be rooting for you to splatter yourself? The thought crosses you mind, the longer this game goes on, the more it's messing with their minds as much as it is yours...

You pull the trigger. And in that moment, you sense it. This was the chamber. This was the one you should have fired at Minty. This was the moment you should've refused to play and broken out. As the hammer comes down, your entire life flashes before your eyes. Playing in the meadow behind your home. The trips with Papa to the local village. The run down old school with the handful of other children your age.
The last weeks of living out the adventure you've always dreamed of in the Zone, the friends you've met and lost in such a short span of time.
And it all comes down to this, in the end.

At least it was by your own hand, you think, as the hammer lands.

The hammer lands on an empty chamber.
You drop the gun on the table, a quivering wreck. You knew, you KNEW. You were certain that was the end, so how...

"The gods have other plans for you," Dave speaks from across the table. He reaches over, picks the revolver up, and without spinning the cylinder, he presses it to his head and pulls. Once more an empty CLICK.

The crowd is an absolute mess, now. Somehow in an even worse nervous state than the three of you together. At least your adrenaline is seriously pumping now.

He hands the revolver to Kris, with a quiet whisper to break her from her trance. "Now."

"Now?"

"Do it now."

With a flick of her wrist, she brings the revolver up and paints Minty's brains all over his men.
Then all Hell breaks loose.

At the sound of the gunshot, Ice rises from the dead, kicking backwards to send his chair smashing into the two men standing behind him. In a single motion, he whirls around to grab one of their rifles and opens fire. Still slung around the bandit's neck, he uses it to throttle the man as he fires wildly into the other men gathered around. At the same time, Dave leaps from his own chair to dive onto the man closest to him, smashing the poor man's face in with his bare hands.

In mere seconds, the population of the room has been reduced to just the four of you, with Kris quickly grabbing weapons from the dead. Ice drops the empty rifle and choked bandit and turns to face Dave, to punch him in the face.

Dave hits the floor, looking up with a sly grin at Ice. "That hurt, you prick."

"Of course it did, but you wear a vest, no? Quit complaining, it whorked."

Kris tosses a pistol and knife to you, and grabs a shortened rifle for herself. "Great, so what's the plan from here, genius?"

"We're here to free the other, right? So we need to find them first. Anyone got ideas?"

Kris perks up, "oh that's easy! They're right next door, they were holding us into the same room until like, just now. They even brought their guards in here."

Huh. Well, that's handy. The four of you quickly move next door, kicking the door in to reveal three battered-looking men who seem rather pleased to see you. After kitting them up in gear from the dead, you're ready to push out for freedom!
Ice calls out to you. "Uh, we may have a problem." You step over to him to see what he means, and look outside through the windows.

I see no real reason to go out of our way to wipe them out. There's been no indicator that they are the obsessive type of bandits who would stalk us in hope of revenge.

Our priority is escaping with everyone intact, if we happen to kill them all, great. If not, we'll probably scare the survivors enough to not fuck with us

>>32241140
But we'll do humanity a great service in wiping those degenerates out.

You glance over to Dave, who is sitting in his chair again, examining his fingers as if assessing a manicure, blood still running freely down his fingers. "So, uh, how long until Eliza realizes that the gunfire is our signal that she should come get us?"

"Oh, she is probably, already aware. Simply, waiting for them to be hkostile." Even as the words leave his lips, one of the bandits fires a few rounds at the building, and is almost instantly engulfed in a ball of exploding death as Eliza's engine kicks into life from the other side of the bridge. Taking that as his cue, you can also see Doggy spring from his hiding spot, somehow on your side of the bridge, and swiftly run down a panicking bandit, reducing him to a gorey mess. The other bandits on the side closest to them quickly scatter, trying to take up positions where they have something solid between them and the tank, but still keeping an eye on your building.

"Alright," you address the room as a whole, "there's a clear path now. You guys get to our tank and stay with her. Dave, come with me!" The rest of the group nods, and breaks cover from the building, rushing for the tank. A few bandits start firing at them, but they fire back just as much, assisted by more machine gun fire from Eliza. They make it to the tank quickly enough with the remaining bandits now spreading out to try to engage them, but also staying in cover from the tank's firepower.
They're perfectly open to you now!

"Alright Dave, let's get 'em!" You rush from the building at the nearest man, his back to you. You're half-way there when you realize that Dave isn't following you.

You bring yourself to a stop mere feet from the nearest bad guy, turn around and rush back to the building before he even notices your presence. Dropping back into the room, you find Dave still sitting on the same chair, idly playing with his fingers.

"D-Dave! What are you waiting for? We're supposed to be killing them now!"

He tilts his head, squinting in apparently genuine askance at you. "Why? They are no longer threatening us, and the objective is safe. Why must they die?"

That's a funny definition of not threatening us. They are still firing at us and people die when they are killed, Dave.

You pull your hair in exasperation. "LOOK, until they're dead, running or surrendered, they're a threat! Now I'm going to go kill them, because they're threatening! What are YOU going to do?"

He shrugs. "Ie am going to stay hkere, and wait until it is time to leave. Obviously." He inflects the last word as if speaking down to a child. Which, you guess he is. But still!

There's a moment's pause as the men look between each other, as if weighing up your suggestion. Then they decide not to, and open fire on you.

You duck back inside the building as Doggy leaps past you to safety. With rounds skipping past the doorway beside you, you hear Dave chuckling to himself in the next room. "What's funny?" you ask him.

"Nothing worth worrying about," he says, voice soothing, "just that the zombies have returned."

You look up out the back of the building to see what he's gesturing at, and see the horizon filled with the shuffling figures of dozens of new opponents, wandering straight towards the sounds of gunfire around you.
