Silence now permeates the Academy. Iori and the Devas behind him look on in shock.

Nothing.

Nothing is inside of the Regalia. Where your body crumbled, there is only armor. No sliced pieces of flesh or puddles of blood.

The sight before them truly confirms that nobody was wearing your Uniform.

"How-?!"

Stars flash! A myriad of crimson threads dance in the air, and the Berserk Satsuki falls to her knees and roars. The threads connected to the tattered armor are also connected to her, bound to her body.

In a flash, your body reassembles itself in the kneeling position, and your reattached right hand is clenched in a fist...holding the Life Fibers that bind the one you love.

Hesitation is nonexistent. Your swing is merciless as you pull your arm forward, rotating on your heels and launching her into the Academy's circular wall.

"Ryuuko-chaaaaaaaaaaan!"

You know that voice, and on an impulse, you turn around to look at the panicking Mako. That's all it takes.

Ryuuko's warped Scissor arm pierces your chest. Without a word, you lift your own arms and grasp the blade, holding the two of you in place.

"How is this possible? That Regalia...this isn't in any of my calculations! Nothing like this has ever been observed!" Iori's hands are sweating, and he is very clearly worried.

"Then guess," Uzu says with his arms crossed.

You are lifted off your feet as the Berserk Ryuuko rotates her body, swinging the bladed arm and letting you slide off at maximum speed. You're sent careening into one of the spiked pillars, and it crumbles to the ground.

"Anaru is still in there...but not his body," Iori says through gritted teeth.

Time is short. If they don't return to normal soon, they could bleed to death.

Suddenly, Ryuuko casts you aside and focuses again on the Berserk Satsuki, who has finally moved away from her crater on the wall. With their sights set on each other once more, the dying foes charge with all their might. Their blades collide, and in the epicenter is born a flowing river of Life Fiber energy. Pitch black and dotted with gold stars, you're blown back as Mako just swims on through, reaching out for her precious friend.

You have to do something! Satsuki in her current state will attack Mako before she can reach Ryuuko!

The impossible is something you strive to do on a daily basis, and this day is no different! Righting yourself as the current continues to pull you away, you push that Five-Star Uniform to its ultimate limit and swim. It does the job ten times over, and you pass Mako in the blink of an eye. Diving beneath the pitch black "water," you swim beneath Satsuki's field of view and burst up with a surprise attack, tackling her and sending you both away from Ryuuko and Mako right before the current vanishes completely.

Mako immediately latches onto her friend and wails, screaming her grief and crying over her ideals. It's a truly beautiful thing, and if you still had a heart, it'd be beating. But one thing is for damn sure, you're now fully aware of Mako's. Forget gold, hers is a heart made of diamond; ever shining, it takes in light from the world around it and reflects that light onto others.

And so you will honor her efforts by exceeding that standard. Turning to face Satsuki, you've no time to react as she slams you down into the ground. That massive fist has you pinned at her feet and, staring into those disturbing eyes, you at last can see the truth.

She is crying. Within that prison of flesh and Fiber, Satsuki weeps.

This will not stand.

Steam billows forth as you push the Uniform beyond its limits, lifting the fist up just enough for you to roll out from under it and rise back to your feet.

"Remember," your voice calls. For the first time, the others hear. And all are stunned into silence, even Mako.

Even as her best friend is released from her torment, Mako somehow remains silent as well.

If only for a moment, the berserk Satsuki halts her advance and stares creepily at you. She continues to bleed, the precious liquid pooling at her jagged feet.

"Satsuki," you call out. You take a step forward, and another. You begin to stretch out your arms...

...and that is when she strikes.

She lashes out with incredible speed and you dash underneath the shockwave, desperate to reach her striking zone. She swings madly again and again, and you're so focused on the sword that you don't see her fist until it has already slammed into you.

You're sent rolling against the dirt again, but you're back on your feet in a flash. You won't stay down. You won't lose.

She's bearing down on you again, undaunted. You know she's bleeding it all away, and soon, there won't be anything left. You have to act fast.

"Listen to me!"

You duck into her striking zone and wrap your arms around her tightly, even as she stabs at your body and tries desperately to rip you away.

"We came this far. I did something stupid, and then I died. I did something stupid and reckless, but I did it for the sake of you. For you and everyone else here!"

At last she succeeds, pulling you free and throwing you on the ground. The blade impales you before you can rise, and though you feel no pain, you can't exactly move around much anymore.

"Don't blame anyone else for my choices. I will never die again."

The armor separates at your right side, just enough to create an opening. You roll over and the blade passes harmlessly through the gap, and her immediate counterattack is halted by your quick hands.

One on the blade, one pressed against her enormous fist. Staring each other down, monster to monster, you feel an incredible sadness welling up in you.

"Look at us," you mutter.

Satsuki blinks, and for a moment, you feel a twinge of hope.

"I died because of foolishness. Are you ready to die for a mask? No mask with that kind of weight should be carried alone. That's exactly what you're doing, isn't it? Trying to take on the world alone."

Ryuuko watches silently as you speak.

"It's time to let go," you say, letting your hands slowly fall to your sides. To your pleasant surprise, and that of everyone around you, she lowers hers as well. Those giant, deformed eyes stare at you impassively, but now you know she's listening.

You lift your index finger, and a small hole appears on the tip. You approach her slowly, no longer worried about caution.

"I missed you," you say, chuckling a little as an ordinary toothpick is dispensed from the finger. The gap closes and the toothpick is released, caught between your thumb and forefinger.

"I was dead forever, but you woke me up with your nightmares. I want you to know that you don't need to worry about that anymore. Not ever again."

You place the toothpick in-between a pair of massive fangs as she stares you down. Taking her sword hand in your own, you look up at her as the Five-Star Uniform deactivates at last.

"I would die a thousand times once and a thousand times again just to see you smile. So cheer up, Prez. You offered me a Student Council position and what's more, you've seen me in my underwear. Like it or not, you're stuck with me forever."

You place your free hand on her cheek, letting it fall slowly down the side of her face in a slow and deliberate caress. It only takes a few seconds for her to regain control, the Fibers of her Kamui no longer entangled in pain and hatred.

"I'm just an empty shell," you lament, hanging your head down. "But even so...something like that won't even get between you and me. Nothing will."

Herself at last, Satsuki's face is largely obscured by the ragged hair cascading in front of it. But you can sense those tears, the very same ones running down her beautiful face as the toothpick threatens to fall away from her quivering lip.

"I love you," you mutter, your "heart" clenching up when a shaky hand rises to rest on top of your own.

The Academy is devastated, but everyone lived. Everyone but you.

OP I don't know if you remember the blight of my job search but I work in a Rooms To Go warehouse now. I've worked there for four weeks now and I get paid $10.15/H. I have to work ten and a half hour days and it's pretty tough but I'm becoming stronger for it.
