>Who are we?
Maka, an exiled noble recently Exalted as a Zenith-caste Solar. She's in the western city of Tianna as a guest of queen Amata, an old friend. Abyssals are targeting the city for conquest, Lintha pirates have infiltrated it with spies and agents, and the Realm is probably planning to get rid of you.
But things are also looking up. You have gathered a lot of allies, have a powerful Manse under construction, and are unifying Tianna in a great nation under your overwhelming charisma.

Yes. I needed that rest. My low posting rate lately has been mostly due to being overworked. Hope i'll be able to get it up a bit now.

Also, an advance warning: if things go well for me this summer I might have the chance to do 2 months of internship abroad. Of course, I can't guarantee threads in that case.

Also, in order to put into perspective how much of a badass this guy is.

We have Phys 3, Dawn 3 and Solar Hero Style. Making a total of 3+3+3=9 dice in a fight.

He has, as a best case scenario, Phys 4, Water 4 and Terrestrial Hero Style. Making 4+4+2 dice. And he's doing 2 damage per hit with no boosts. Assume he has a twice per scene from artifacts. And artifact armour damage negation. Not to mention an unknown bonus from Water Dragon Style.

Worst case? Phys 5, Water 5, THS. 12 dice per roll. 3 damage per hit, before bonuses. And that's not counting if Water Dragon Style has a bonus that stacks with THS. And artifact weapons and armour. And hearthstones.

Best case, we lose by a little. Worst case, we die.

You react to the cloak being thrown to block your sight and engulf you by taking a long step back. The uneven flagstones of the town square make it hard to get your footing right after such a quick movement, but the cloak loses momentum as it flies, and begins to drift down. You raise your fists and look straight up, scanning the sky for a leaping Deled ready to drop down on you...

Instead, the cloak suddenly stars moving on its own, leaping towards you. From it, you see the outline of a fist emerging, tipped by three short black steel claws, in a lightning-fast hook that, starting from very low, almost ground level, slams into your lower abdomen.

The pain is sharp and sudden, as you feel the claws rummaging in your innards and your blood spilling along your legs trickling down.

The impact almost propels you away, but you shunt the pain away and react by locking your right leg around his neck, slapping his arm out of your stomach, and then nailing him with a good punch in his right temple.

[+1 damage bonus used]

After your first exchange of blows, there is once again some distance between you.

You have stopped losing blood right away, but that doesn't make your wound any less painful. Your legs feel a bit numb, and that's not a good sign.

As for him... he has a large bruise on his temple and is losing a bit of blood, but by his smug grin you can tell that he's not seriously hurt. And you hit him with everything you've got!

You glance at your gauntlets: the metal is bent where you connected, and, despite that, it felt more like punching water.

You stare into the monk's supremely confident eyes, and realize that, on your own, you're probably no match for him.

And he knows that.

Despite your wound and the fact that you're clearly outmatched by your opponent, who is armored and armed with jade artifacts, you stand your ground, and bring your guard back up.

"Don't count on luck again." He mumbles, touching his wound with two fingers, and wincing slightly from the pain. "Or on mercy." He adds, steeling his gaze, now even more focused from the pain. A deep blue glow extends from him, and makes you feel like you're drowning. All your movements seem so slow and sluggish...

You don't even reply, just waiting for his next move.

For ten seconds, you're staring into each other's eyes, reading each other's body language, predicting any possible move...

Then, he moves to attack, closing with a quick chain of faints that almost catches you completely off-guard. He ducks and waves left, right, up, down...

He gets inside your guard, and a fist wreathed in a swirling tornado of black essence slips through your defenses and slams you square in the chest, between your breasts.

The blow transmits the energy to your body, and you FEEL your heartbeat screeching to a halt with an almost-mechanical grind, and then your blood suddenly start flowing in reverse, then sideways, then in all directions.

Your sight instantly gets covered by a red filter, and your eyes start watering, causing your vision to go fuzzy. Your head spins, and your stomach spins in the opposite direction. You can't breathe anymore.

Coughing and hacking blood and desperately gasping for air, you thrust your hands out to grab Deled's neck, exposed for a moment, and grab him in a choke-hold, lifting him up over your head, struggling against his immense weight and strength.

As you squeeze the breath out of him, he knees you in the stomach, causing you to gag and vomit way more blood that you thought you even had in your body.

Blood, mixed with water, is everywhere, and makes your grip slippery. He tries to force your hands open.

Before he can do that, he suddenly jolts in pain as you hear a whistle and the loud THUNK of an arrow impacting against his back.

"You... coward..." he hisses, struggling for breath.

"...I don't want to hear that..." you growl back at him, your voice almost unrecognizable, "...from some backyard bully who used Pyre as a hostage!!"

You lift him even higher, and then arc backwards, suplexing his head through the square's thick flagstone pavement. The impact sends shards of rock flying all around and digs a crater about a meter wide.

Your hands slip, and you let him go. You let yourself fall to the ground.

With a deep, rough gasp for breath, you spit a ball of blood and other internal fluids of dubious color and origin, and try and clear your throat as you struggle back to your feet.

He doesn't seem as quick to stand back up. A long arrow is sticking out of his back. It managed to get between his lamellar armor's plates, but just barely. It didn't inflict any serious damage, and in facts falls off on its own. But, knowing Zareen, you can imagine the tip being covered in some kind of poison.

I would like to complain a little about that. Anons usually forget to use their charms like that time with the fae, but in this situation, if you had used the Ten Ox Meditation I do not think anybody at all would have complained since this guy is a murder machine.

I am good at roguelikes so I know how to keep track of my abilities in the thick of combat, but others might not.

You should have felt free to activate the Ten Ox Meditation yourself in this situation and optimize our ability usage if you think that we are neglecting them.

"MAKE ME!" He screams back, defiant, definitely trying to do so.

You manage to hold him in place, an arm locked behind his back, and finally, with much relief, start hearing the familiar noise of your heartbeat again.

You shake the drowsiness from your head, and slam your fist straight into his pinned arm, aiming at breaking it. It feels like punching rubber, but you're not letting him get away. One, two, three hits. Finally, you hear the bone snapping, and him screaming.
