Sweat and blood sogs your cloths as you continue trudging down the forrest path towards the rising smoke. The pain you’re in is unbearable and your feel your legs slowly losing their power. Then you see it.. what you think is a building.

Panting you shamble off of the path a little to approach from the brush; your grey bood and dirt spattered PJs acting as makeshift camo. You’ve made a lot of bad choices today, but you make sure to take care before you go rushing off into the unknown again.

Surveying the town, it looks like a battle took place recently. There are bits of broken weapons, ripped clothing, and bloodstains littering the ground and the walls of some of the buildings. A large fire burns near the center of the town, however no one seems to be up or tending to it.

You squint as the clouds roll off the waning sliver of moon, giving you a small burst of extra light... the houses look to be all made of wood with rocks placed on the roofs. It seems very... primitive. Thinking back to the young man you wonder if you really did wonder into some sort of LARP nightmare after all.

Kagome; assess the situation.

You breath deep and exhale. You know how being loud and proud worked out for you with that guy by the tree... you’ll just sneak through town and try to find someone silently. Especially if it’s just one giant murder pit. Better safe than sorry right?

You grit your teeth as you limp forward through the brush and into the town, dragging your walking stick weakly behind you. Your body is pouring out sweat and your short of breath. The intense heat of the fire doesn’t help.

The town seems empty... all the doors are pulled shut and the windows are drawn shut. There’s got to be someone here... anyone.

You can’t take it... you want your legs to move... but they won’t. Not any more. Your adrenaline is our and the pain floods into you. Tears stream down your eyes and you throw off your heavy backpack, taking a few feeble steps forward

“h-help...” you bleet

Your walking stick gives way and you fall to the ground with a thud, landing on your injured leg you let out a cry and begin crawling until your legs finally quit. Your broken body falls to the dirt floor. “Can’t stop... gotta keep...” you assure yourself, pulling yourself along with only your working arm.

Why won’t anyone help you? Is this really the end for you? Bleeding out in the dirt another nameless casualty in a mysterious place?

You can go no further... you let out one final roar of pain and frustration as darkness envelops you. Weak. You’ll always be weak...

It’s dark here... you feel nothing... chirping. Birds. Is this the afterlife? Darkness and birds? How droll... you try to open your eyes. They feel like cinderblocks are tied to them and as they peel open you are blinded by brilliant yellow light.

The chirping is crisper now and less distant. the sound of water pouring into water... the feeling of wetness on your head. The world slowly focuses. You’re in a small wooden structure, an old woman who has seen better days kneels over you scowling. The pain in your body makes itself known again as your shoulder and leg throb.

“So I see ye are finally awake. Now should ye have the strength, pray tell me what business ye have in my village stranger?”

“...what?”

The woman merely continues to scowl at you.

“Who are you?”

“As rude as it may be to ask a name before giving one I shall humor ye. I am Kaede; the priestess and leader of this village. Now child. Tell me, what is your name?”

“... ... ... am I dead?”

She seems to scowl harder. “K-Kagome. My name is Kagome.”

The old woman dries off her hands and moves to the center of the room. Out of the corner of your eye you can see she’s stirring a pot over a burning fire.

“Eye. Kag-Om-aye... a peculiar name for a peculiar one such as yourself. Ye are not dead. Not yet.” she continues, pouring something from the pot into a small saucer.

“People still say ‘ye’?” you wonder aloud.

She seems to ignore you as she sits beside you again, tilting your head she pours a little of the bitter broth down your throat. It burns, causing you to wratch an cough.

“Easy child easy.”

“Now that you seem to be recovering I shall pose ya a question again; Kagome, why have ye come to my village? Where are ye from? Your clothing and pack are like nothing I have ever seen before.”

You groan. Great, you’re going to have to relive the worst day of your life to a grumpy old cosplayer. She probably has like 45 cats.

You decide to skip the daytime portions of your day and cut right to your mother, the mysterious fog, dog, being pulled into the well by some unseen force as a strange woman with six arms burst out of it. You finish saying you followed the smoke and stumbled into the village.

The woman sits attentively and mulls your words over in silence as she rubs her chin.

“Aye so my suspicions be true then... ye are the incarnation of Kikyo and with it comes the sorrow of the Shikon no Tama; the Jewel of Four Souls... That would explain the increased demonic activity and bandit attack on the village.” she muses. “Yes, the jewel could only return if she did as well...”

“Look I don’t know what a Kikyo is or a Shikon no Whatever... I’m not playing with you. This isn’t a game! Look at me, I’m really hurt and need to go to a hospital!”

“Child this is no game... where do ye think ye are right now?”

“Not home in Tokyo that’s for sure” you sigh.

“Tok... you? I have never heard of such a strange place... This is the Village of the Bone Eaters Well.”

You shout in frustration, nothing is getting through to this woman. Fine you’ll play along if that’s what it takes.

“Tokyo is... a far away land from which I hail priestess Kanonaid. I am a student of a learning academy there; please may I see your apothecary?”

The old womans brow furrows, it seems she detected the obvious condescension in your voice.

“Very well Kagome; I shall fetch him for you. Since you are a guest, a patient, and a relative I trust you will behave yourself while I am gone.” the old woman responds as she gets up from her kneeling position and walks out of the door.

You are alone in a wooden structure with a burning fire in the center. Your backpack leans against the far wall and your ruined PJs are folded next to them.

A few moments after she leaves you prop yourself up on your good arm. You’re on a thin mat that feels like it’s stuffed with a little feathers or grass or something, your thin burlap like blanket rolls off of you revealing a patched shoulder wound and your bound breasts.

You feel a little better, and you want to sleep more, but you need to prepare yourself just in case. You throw off your sheet and breath a sigh of relief; at least your panties are still on and the right way to boot.

Your body aches, but at least you can move. You limp over to the firepit and spot a small iron knife with a wooden handle, you palm it then limp over to the wall to your backpack. You consider lifting it, but decide to drag it back over to your makeshift bed instead so you don’t risk messing up your shoulder again.

You plant your butt back on the bed roll and open your backpack. It doesn’t seem to have been tampered with at all. You breath a sigh of relief. Who knows what they would have thought if they found one of your... gifts.

You hear the shuffling of feet outside and quickly cover yourself up and lye in bed again, concealing the knife under the sheet just in case.

An old bald man with a thick mustache and brown robes walks in and is shortly followed by Kaede. Your eyes meet and the man gives a hearty laugh before slapping his gut.

“So I see the stranger’s finally awake!” As he nears you you see his cheeks are as rosy as traffic lights and he reeks of sake.

“So Lady Kaede tells me you’re from Tokyo.” He leans in closer and grabs your chin, not forcefully however.

“I suppose it’s to be expected.” the man sighs, seeing the knife in your hand. “What times we live in...”

Your face flushes, feeling a little ashamed as you hand the cooking knife back to Kaede. “S-sorry... it’s just...”

“No need to feel shame for protecting yourself child.” she replies as she waves you off. “Although if I wanted too ye would have been dead long ago.”

Kaede begins heating up some water and setting some rags aside when you get an idea; why not use some of your own supplies? Least you can do really.

You sit up and reach into your backpack pulling out a bandage roll and unwrapping it from his package before handing it to the monk, Mushin. “Here, we can use some of my things. It’s only fare... you guys have done so much for me already.”

The man palms the bandage stretching it. “What manner of cloth is this? It grows and shrinks and even seems to stick to itself... I’ve never seen anything so white! Tell me, is this a medical secret of your native land?”

“Ya... ya I guess it is.” you nervously chuckle.

The monk gets to work removing your old bandages, washing your wounds and smearing a green paste into them before wrapping them with your bandages. It stings a little, but you’re already feeling better.

He wipes his brow and motions for Kaede to come over. “Now that she’s awake Lady Kaede, I would like to try something.”

The old woman grunts in acknowledgment and kneels next to you, closing her eyes and placing her hands on either side of your shoulder wound. The old man takes out a set of prayer beads and begins chanting.

This is so completely surreal... these guys are lunatics if they thing this mumbo jumbo can h- and then you see it; a feint pink glow around your wounds and your right side... you suddenly feel... healthier. HOLY SHIT!

“WH-WHAT?!” You find yourself screaming, eliciting Mushin to cover his ears.

“You act as though you’ve never seen basic Monk healing techniques my young miss.” he responds, taking a swig from a gourd on his belt.

“No... we don’t have ANYTHING like that where I’m from...” you reply dumbfounded.

“Well you should be fine to walk around a bit at least, but you should take it easy.” he responds before turning to Kaede, “Please excuse me, but I must tend to the other villagers before the sun sets.” He looks over his shoulder before giving an approving nod as he heads out of the small home.

It looks as though you woke up in the middle of the day, but the healing took a bit long; the sun is about to set judging by the shadows. Maybe you should take a look around town? Either way you probably need new cloths...
