Peasant Quest part 5

Part 1: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive/32511645/
Part 2: https://archive.foolz.us/tg/thread/32524979
Part 3: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive/32548487
Part 4: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive/32571376/

A long time ago, you were a peasant lad living in a farming village. A small part of an empire forgotten by history.

Now much has changed. You have died & been reborn. You cannot say with any honesty that you are still human. You have slumbered for eons, the world you knew having long passed into the most dimly-recalled myths.
The year is 1899 & you have awoken into a time and a place that you do not understand. You were of late the prisoner of the Royal Society, who believed you to be a quasi-mythical species of vampire never before observed. You managed to escape your captors & free another of their ‘guests’. A woman, huddled in filthy rags and presumably one of these ‘vampires’ your captors seemed so fixated on. Beyond that you know nothing about her.
>>
>>32655615
The two of you clamber out of the trapdoor from the hidden underground prison onto damp cobbled streets thick with fog. You marvel at your surroundings, the ground is layered with worked stone, tall buildings surround you and stretch off into the distance, glass lamps burn at regular intervals and the sounds of city life assail your ears. Countless conversations, the coughing of the sick, the laughter of the intoxicated, the clopping of horseshoes striking stone. You’ve never seen so many people in so small an area. The monstrous hunger within you stirs in the presence of so much warm life.
The woman at your side wraps some of her rags around her head like a loose shawl, obscuring much of her face.
“You need to find something to cover your face” She says, “We’re lucky for the fog, but we shouldn’t take any chances drawing unwanted attention.”
You scarcely hear her, still bewildered at your surroundings.

What do you do?

Welcome back to Peasant Quest.

Choices by vote & as always more weight will be given to interesting/perceptive/well thought out posts.

Questions encouraged!

Cover your face with rags
>>
>>32655699
>Cover your face with rags

You do not have any rags with you. You are clad in a thin white cloth shirt & trousers, presumably provided by your captors, you could try and tear some cloth off, but they are flimsy looking & may not hold up to such punishment.

Unfortunately it seems they did not supply you with any shoes, you stand barefoot on the stone, though it doesnt much bother you.

The only other thing you have on your person is a thin leather thong tied around your neck, with a lock of yellow hair bound to it. It must have somehow survived your slumber...
>>
>>32655627

So uh, where are we exactly OP? You said 1899 but you didnt say where.
>>
>>32655910

Somewhere in London...
>>
>>32655781

Does our fellow prisoner have enough to spare?

Failing that, we'll probably have to steal some garments from someone.

Examine our surroundings for any likely victims we can rob discreetly and see if the vampire chick knows anything helpful.
>>
I'll give it awhile to pick up abit before continuing...
>>
>>32656187
>examine our surroundings
always this
>>
>>32656187
>>32656406

You examine your surroundings, you appear to be in a narrow, dead-end alleyway that opens onto a busy thoroughfare, people on foot as well as horse & cart can be seen and heard going by.

There appears to be little in the alley itself other than a gas lamp & a couple of windows which are high up and too small to fit through.

Your companion is not really dressed any better than you are, her garments appear similar to yours only well worn and splattered with old stains. She too is barefoot. Her makeshift shawl barely conceals enough of her face.
>>
>>32655781
>Momento of our eldritch waifu still endures.

You old softie OP
>>
>>32656543
Go hunting, kill like 7-8 people and steal their cash and shirts, along with a change of clothes.
>>
>>32656543
Scavenge for some rag to hide our eldrich-horror-face.

Ask our current companion if she knows of a safe place to stay.
>>
>>32656543
Peak around the edge of the street
>>
>>32656628
Random murder-sprees attract attention. We don't need attention.
>>
>>32656628
>7-8 people

No. Do you want everyone out there to be more on-edge than they already are?

>>32656671
Seconding this.
>>
>>32656628

A more restrained sly version of this....

Break the gas-light to conceal our misdeeds & have your companion try & lure someone suitably dressed into the alley. Then murder them up and steal their shit.

Vampire lady is probably hungry anyway so it'll surely gain us points with her.
>>
>>32656671

You search around the alley looking for something to put over your face, but to no avail. The alley is empty of anything that would serve.

You turn to the woman. "I do not know this place or it's people, is there anyway safe we can go?"

She nods "Mayhap, my old home, I lived there with my mother and brother. Though I've been in that cage for years, I'm not sure they'll still be there. It's some distrance from here though."

She leans on the wall, seeminly fighting an inner battle.

"They were starving me in there, seeing how little I could survive off of. I need to eat and soon. With all these people so close the hunger will take over and run wild if I deny it much longer"

What do you do?
>>
>>32656919
Hunt, if we are caught again we are not getting free.
>>
>>32656919
be as discrete as possible, stick to shadows, and find some drunk dudes or something
>>
>>32656919
I wanted to also ask her if she knows what we are. As in, does she understand we aren't exactly like her?
>>
>>32657273
We don't know enough about her, or how the world works to be giving this kinda thing away Anon.
>>
>>32657336
I said to ask her, I never mentioned telling her anything. This is just to see if she kind of instinctually knows
>>
>>32656919
Beat up a drunk and steal his clothes.
>>
Hide in the shadows of the alleyway.

And then when a lone person walks by, lure them in with our psychic powers. COME TO ME.
>>
>>32657273
Don't do this. This is dumb. Do the opposite of this, I.E., say only what we need to when we need to.
>>
>>32657081
>>32657138

You confer with your companion, who introduces herself to you as Olivia. She agrees that you have little choice but to hunt for a victim to steal some clothing as well as to satisfy her hunger.

You creep to entrance of the alleyway as stealthily as possible & look about for likely candidates.

There are several possiblities:

+An old drunk, bottle of gin in hand stands reeling a few feet to the right of the alley. He doesnt look capable of putting up much of a fight and his clothing is shabby.

+A whore trying to attract customers stands under the shadowy eaves of a building to the left of the alley to the drunk. Olivia could probably make use of her dress & she is wearing a scarf you could wrap about your head.

+A stagecoach is parked on the opposite side of the road, a lone driver stands beside it smoking a pipe, apparently waiting for something. He looks healthy and strong but his clothing is robust and of high quality, though simple. He wears a dark heavy overcoat with a dark suit beneath and a wide brimmed hat on his head. It does not appear that the coach has any passengers at the moment.

Who do we go for? Voting closes in 10 mins.
>>
>>32657703
Take the drunk, pull him into the alleyway with our ungodly speed and strength, and satisfy at the basest level our hunger.

And then the same with the prostitute. Luring her to the shadows with lies that we want her.

And then, dressed in newer clothes, go for the carriage driver and his carriage.

You burst out of the alley with all the speed you can muster, dashing up to the drunk you grab his head and bash it against the wall before he can respond, he slumps to the ground unconscious. You glance around, no one seems to have noticed. The coach driver is rummaging around in his coach & the whore seems to be talking with Olivia.

You quickly drag him back to the alley and strip off his outer layer of clothing.

The hunger within you seethes and gnashes at the warmth coming from the drunk's body & the sound of his heartbeat. But you pause.

It is bad enough that you are reduced to robbing this wretch, must you murder him as well? It is surely an act of evil but on the other hand how long can you fight your nature before you losing control like in the cells?

What do you do?

(10 mins)

Gotta eat. We won't get buy on sandwiches at this point.
>>
>>32658286
It's either that or we die, just eat him.
>>

Better to do this now, than to do it in a crowd and cause mass panic.
>>
>>32658286
Drain him dry, we need to eat and its best not to turn feral
>>
>>32658286
Drain him, then crush his head so he can never come back.

>>32658286
It's no more evil than eating a pig. Or a cow. Or a chicken. And it's not like this guy is really of our own race, since it's been about 120,000 years since we were kicking around, and evolutionarily speaking, this guy is like our 40,000th cousin.
>>
>>32658438

Do we even know this will work? Are we even capable of creating vampires?

There was no indication that our first victim reanimated back in the old forest.
>>
>>32658482
Oh, you mean there was no indication in the 10 hours we were around for after we drank his blood?

You feast upon him, his blood is sour and thin but it warms you all the same. The rush of sensation is less intense this time but the bloodlust within you subsides somewhat. This man is the third victim of your murderous hunger, you wonder how many more there will be.

You wipe the blood off of your face as best you can and put on his clothes over the white garments.

As you are finishing up Olivia reappears in the alley, she is leading the whore by the hand as if she were a small child. The whore's face is pale damp with sweat, her expression a mask of horror. But she does not seem to react to you or to the dead drunk.

Olivia simply parks the whore at the dead end of the alley, undresses her then tears into her neck. The whore dies without any struggle or cry, staring into space the whole time without so much as a whimper. You can’t help but wonder how Olivia did this.

Dressed as you are, the both of you should be able to pass as normal people so long as no one pays close attention.

Whilst you were 'busy' it seems the coach driver has left along with his stagecoach.

What do you do now?
>>
>>32658286
Our hunger never seemed diminish if we kill, and may not unless we kill to a degree in which we're killing several people every day.

Just take his things. We'll probably have to deal

>>32658451
So we're somehow greater then this person, because we were revived after making some stupid decisions? These are weak excuses to dehumanize others. If you're going to be a monster, at least try to be an intelligent one.

>>
>>32658805
Why not break in to a house and crash there, i don't think we should go where her home was as that is the first place they'd look
>>
>>32658787
So, certain animals eat certain things, to the degree they need over time. Food chains were created based on the psychology of the time, that the strongest were at the top, weakest at the bottom. And on that logic, when the tree no longer needs us, we get eaten.
>>
>>32658718
>>32658755

I reckon we should be very careful about what we reveal about ourselves to Olivia either directly or indirectly. We can safely assume that she's a 'type 2', but we dont know anything else about her.
>>
>>32658914
Which is why I said ask her how she does it, not tell her our life story.

>>32658944

For all we know Anon, that may be vampire 101 & by revealing our ignorance we may tell her more about ourselves than we want to. She probably assumes that we're the same as her.

It wants blood sacrifice and to be feared. And it could actually do a lot to us, if it wanted. Kassa had to sacrifice herself on it's terms of revival, we however had to choose to drink it's sap to be revived.

Olivia agrees to take you to her old home. She seems anxious to return there and see her 'family' again.

She tells you that they made their home in the cemetery in Highgate, which is some distance away. It will take most of the night to reach there.

The journey will give you plenty of time to talk to Olivia.

What will you talk about and how much about yourself are you prepared to tell her?

Ask her about her knowledge about what she has become. Keep what we tell her to a minimum. Ask her if she can use her domination trick on multiple people at once.

>>

Ask her about her family. How many? Their history?
How did she become a vampire and all she knows about them.

Tell her that we've been out for a long time. Don't tell her how or why, say we're suffering from memory loss.
Better yet, plead memory loss to all of her questions.
>>
>>32659339

This.

We're really fucking old, she may be able to sense that to some degree. Pleading the 'amnesiac ancient' who fell asleep in the dark ages or whatever and just woke up is a good plan.

We also need info cause we know basically nothing.

Also see if we can sense Kassa.

As you make your way north to Highgate you try to sense Kassa as you once did so long ago. You pick up more than you expected, you can sense Olivia beside you and various others like her, some greater and others lesser. Their 'signals' are somewhat similar to Kassa's, but only as a candle is similar to the Sun. Of Kassa herself, you sense *something* like whisper on the edge of hearing. You are certain she 'lives', but are able to discern nothing else.

You settle into conversation with Olivia. You learn that she believes you to be an ancient of her kind as she overheard the scientists talking about finding your remains and planning to wake you. You go along with this, claiming to remember little of the time before you slept.

She tells you of her 'family' who are also vampires. She is the youngest, having died around 40 years ago. Her brother, Liam is nearly 100 years old. Her mother, Octavia however is more than 2 thousand years old & died in a place called 'ancient Rome'. Which means nothing to you. She describes her mother as one of the eldest of your kind and a member of the second generation of vampires who are accorded a religious reverence by others.

She seems suprised when you ask her what she did to the whore. You fob it off as amnesia. She explains that forcing someone to look into your eyes will show them something of your essential nature. Most people are destroyed by what they see and go into a state of numb shock, there minds overwhelmed. Though the strong willed are able to resist it.

There is still some time before you reach your destination. Is there anything else you want to ask her?

>Ask her about 3rd gen vampires

Olivia proudly responds that she is a 3rd generation vampire, her mother being of the 2nd. Most are older than her, but it carries prestige nonetheless.

>>32660074
>Ask her if she's heard of any other "ancients" like us.

She lists off the names of several other 2nd generationers as if they were a pantheon of legends, none of them mean anything to you. Her voice dips to a whisper and she speaks of the 1st generation, composed of only one, all vampires simply know her as 'mother'. She is thought to have come out of central asia more than 3 thousand years ago, but it is considered bad luck to speak about her directly & she will tell you no more.

You finally reach the gates of Highgate Cemetery, which is more like a woodland area as far as you can see. Olivia leads you to an avenue of tombs, she opens one of the doors and you see that a rough earthen tunnel leads underground....

Olivia leads you deep underground walking through the tunnel for a few minutes until you reach a large stone slab blocking the passage.

Though it must weigh far more than even ten big men could lift, Olivia heaves it aside and steps beyond. You follow.

You're standing in a large underground chamber, there are no sources of light whatsoever yet you see everything in perfect clarity. The walls and ceiling are earth, with a few roots visible above you. Chained next to the entrance is a nude wiry man, he snarls and claws mindlessly at the earth, straining against the chain about his neck like a rabid dog. But falls silent and dips his head when you turn toward him.

There are various items of furniture spaced at odd intervals around the room, but what draws your attention is at the far end, a raised stone platform with two figures on it. Both of whom are obviously undead like you.

One is a woman of around 25 years, has an elegant bearing and looks as though she must have been beautiful whilst she was alive. She is sat on a high backed stone chair and at it's base a boy of perhaps 14 years kneels washing her bare feet with water from a stone basin.

The boy notices you and Olivia at once and stands to face you. You notice that a large portion of his neck seems to be missing, torn away in a vicious bite by the wound. The woman remains motionless, staring blankly at the floor.

What do you do?

Olivia rushes forward, the relief obvious on her face. She climbs the dais and goes to her knees before the seated woman embracing her legs & nuzzling her head against them in what to you seems a strange and perverse display.

"daughter" says the seated woman laconically.

She slowly runs the tips of her fingers through Olivias hair.

"I have been awaiting your return."

Thoughout the the womans head has not moved, she continues to stare at the floor.

"But I see you have brought an unannounced guest to my...."

Her voice trails off.

In a motion that seems to take full minute she raises her head to look at you.

You raise your hand in an awkward greeting, unsure of what to say.

She stares at you for a few moments in silence

"Brother?" She asks

"Have we met? I thought I knew all the sons... You have the face, the features... and the weight of years on you. You must be."

In a strange motion that reminds you more of a puppet being jerked into motion than muscles pushing and flexing she rises to her feet. Both Olivia and the boy seem astounded by this development.

What do you do?
>>
>>32661830
Here is my reasoning. Our "hero" here was a peasant. In his mind, since he was comatose for all intents and purposes during the last 120,000 years, his adventure here started just a week or two ago. He still has all the sensibilities he had back when he was a peasant.

Now, he IS a vampire, and that means he does have to kill people to survive. But that's really all that's changed about him. Really.

He doesn't know about these modern vampires. He has no reason to fear this woman in front of him. He's just lost and out of time. And since Olivia mentioned their "mother", and Kassa being so important to him, I don't see why he wouldn't try to find her as soon as he could.

And thank you for agreeing with me. Even more thanks for being rational in your post. That shit is rare as fuck these days.
>>
>>32661952

We may have been a peasant, but I dont recall us being a particulary brave or confontational peasant.

If anything we've been quite evasive and cautious so far.
>>
>>32661933
Deny knowing her. We don't have to tell these people anything about us that we don't want them to know, but any outright lie will come back to bite us in our eldritch-abomination behind.
>>
>>32661933
I'm going to say it again. Casual as fuck. Look her in the "eyes", and ask if she knows where our Kassa is.
>>
>>32661933
>>32661933
just introduce our selves "hi I am ..... been asleep for a long time everything is just so exciting and new, And I am so desperate to find Kassa

I like this. Very humble and truthful.
>>
>>32661933
No to my knowledge my family have all passed away and i didnt have a sister last time i checked
>>
>>32661933
Well this is creepy as shit. Why would she think we're her brother?

Ask if she recognizes us, use the same sleep-amnesia story if required.
>>
>>32662101
I'm pretty sure it's in the metaphoric sense.
>>
>>32662055
>>32662040
I recommend we go with what >>32660605 said and not mention Kassa, because if she's the 1st-gen vampire of whom they speak, then we could be attracting some unwanted controversy to ourselves.

We could reveal this truth later, once we get into contact with Kassa again, but for now, we are strangers in a strange land. Best to lay low for a bit.
>>
>>32661933
Say: Hi, I am (insert name) nice to meet you.
>>
>>32662114
No i think they all are descendants of Kassa, hence the title of "Mother"
>>
>>32662120
But it isn't really nice to meet her. I don't like that false pleasantry. I'd say just introduce ourselves.
>>
>>32661952
He also has an extremely strong will, given the circumstances. I agree with your reasoning. He's also...kind of socially cautious. Unsure weither lying or being truthful is the best thing.

It makes it a challenge, to write (which is both bad and good).
>>32661972
Only as rare as we make it.
>>32661933
"We have never met. I have been asleep for a very long time...And am looking for someone very dear to me."
>>
>>32662143
Yeah, it seems pretty obvious that they are. But she's talking to us, calling us Brother, in the same sense that we're a vampire as well. And ancient as fuck. She can tell. Though it looks like she doesn't realize how old we really are.

Theory: she thinks she recognizes us because we resemble her 'brothers' and all her brothers share similar features.

Now call me crazy but if Kassa IS 'mother' then that means Octavia's brothers were created by Kassa. What if all the men she turned were chosen because of their resemblance to a certain someone?
>>
>>32662269
Good point.

You introduce yourself to the woman, Octavia was her name if you recall what Olivia said earlier. You say that you don't think you've met and you've been asleep a long time and dont recall meeting her, but you don't recall much of anything.

The woman does not respond, she walks toward you in a strange advance that is uncomfortable to look at. The distance she is travelling does not seem to correspond to the motion of her feet, as if she is somehow disconnected from the world around her.

She stands a few inches from you and gently lays her hand on your face. You notice that she has thorny growths protruding from the tips of her fingers like talons.

"You are my brother, I can see it in your face but we have not met. You must have slept when we gathered in Carpathia. I have not seen another of our siblings since that day."

She turns and sits at a table, you are somehow in a different part of the room without having moved. You now stand beside one of the tables at the edge, there are a few worn, yet luxurious chairs next to it.

"Come, sit and drink with me. This is a rare pleasure and we have much to catch up on."

What do you do?
>>
>>32662780

Octavia is creepy as fuck, just saying.
>>
>>32662508
Their last place closed down around here years ago. My local coop has top-tier soft serve that they combo with crazy shit (green tea mix, chocolate w/ cayenne peppers, mint + vanilla = thin mint). I don't look back, anon.
>>32662780
Sit with her, listen. Explain that we are looking for someone dear to us, if she asks what we're doing here.
>>
>>32662780
"I'm sorry, but we have nothing to 'catch up on'. I do not know you."
>>
>>32662850
We should probably indulge the weird space-warping lady. We have no clue what she is capable of and she seems friendly enough. She may well let slip something useful.

You take a seat opposite her.

"Liam my love, bring us some cups." Octavia commands and the boy quickly appears at the table with a pair of simple drinking vessels. Before heading off to the rear of the hall with Olivia.

Octavia makes a languid gesture with her hand and suddenly clods of earth begin dropping around you from the ceiling.

A struggling living girl descends head first from the earth above, suspended and bound by thick pliable roots, they have infiltrated her mouth & throat to the point that she is unable to make any noise at all.

When she descends to shoulder level, Octavia casually reaches out and slits her throat with one of her talons. She holds the cups to the gushing wound, filling them with warm blood. Part of you is appalled by the callousness of it, yet the warm blood captivates you.

When the cups are filled, Octavia calls out

"Come children. Waste not, want not." Olivia and Liam rush forward and bear away the dying girl, lapping at the wound at her neck.

She offers you one of the cups.

"One of the finest virgins in my collection." She says

Do you take it?

(conversation with above questions will come next)
>>
>>32663407
Yes.

No.

>>32663407
Yes.
>>
>>32663476
Yes, of course we take it.
>>
>>32663482

I would like to reiterate my previous statement here>>32662834

This is getting into unambigously evil territory at this point, but we need the info she has and theres no helping that girl now. May as well drink.
>>
>>32663476
Yes. She is already dead, we are in a bad situation, and we have already shown we aren't above killing for blood. We aren't insane or bloodthirsty for death, but I think we are self-preserving enough for something this small can pass.
>>
>>32663476
I'd rather not take it, personally. If we do something for a good reason, we'll to it for a horrific one. We should keep enough to avoid our hunger, none more.
>>
>>32663476
Take it to be polite
>>
>>32663550

We're a corpse being possessed by a malevolent, bloodthirsty god.

Evil came as part of the package deal.

Drink up
>>
>>32663664
But we're not an evil person, and we do seem to have free will. Thus we have a choice, and are only as we choose to be. If you still want to do it, it's your choice, but come up with better reasoning if you want to give reasoning.
>>
>>32663714
Agreed.
>>
>>32663476
Drink. Thank her for her generosity.
No point in letting all that blood go to waste.
>>
>>32663476
Octavia seems a tad creepy. Thank her for her offer, but politely decline.
>>
>>32663714
Not the same guy your talking to but I agree with him. I think so because the last time we did the 'right' thing we ended up locked in a chest for millennia so we should embrace our new nature and make the best of it.
>>
>>32664014
No anon, that was just players being stupid. Not doing the right thing.
>>
>>32664014
It's more that our teacher at the time failed us by not smacking us on the head when he KNEW we were headed to the forest with the shady guy.

This was the only way to stop the tree, which was bad-news. It's a massive situation of fuck-ups, where the best option available is to just lock us away till we can be thrown into the sun or something.
>>
>>32664048
Thing is, the quest has had to deal with stupidity since the beginning (from ignoring the father of the church, to our teacher, to how we acted with the Monster-Hunters when in the white powder circle.
>>
>>32664048
Alright then let's not do the stupid thing and refuse the hospitality of the ancient vampire in her own lair which she has already demonstrated control over
>>
>>32663407
aw hell no
>>
>>32664233
I actually agree since what's done is done. I'm just saying we shouldn't take the evil option every time since we were burned once.
>>
>>32664299
I agree but when it comes to drinking blood it's part of our nature and we need it to live.
>>
>>32664299
It was not that we were once burned, its that someone trapped us away for 1000 years. Which should be more then enough to make anyone mad.
>>
Whatever reservations you have about the girl being slaughtered like livestock, you put them aside. Nothing can be done for her now and you do not wish to offend your host.

You quaff the blood and the heat of it flows through your whole body, it is completely different from the drunk's blood and you shudder with profane pleasure. It feels as if flowers of light are blooming in your head, you are lost to euphoria for a time.

When you regain some sense of yourself, you notice Octavia is giggling at you.

"You drink like a child brother."

You thank her for the blood and fall into conversation.

>Ask about the sun followers, if there are any knights.

"Followers of the Sun? Not for an age, the last I recall were those of Apollo. Just how long have you slept? The religions of the book and their one God rule now. Their followers are troublesome for the young ones, but merely a pest for the likes of us."

>Ask her what happend in Carpathia

She glances over her shoulder at Liam & Olivia who are still busy gnawing on the dead girl.

"It is not something for the children's ears. The young ones, for whom Mother is just a story would not understand. We will speak of it when the opportunity for privacy arises."

>I have slept for a long time. My knowledge of this era is lacking. Any information you can give me would be appreciated.

"That much I can see. Although I am rather out of place in this modern world myself, things change too fast for me to keep up, Olivia & Liam can help more than I, though I imagine there is a great deal to learn"

>Kassa

"The name is not familiar to me. A daughter of yours?"

You decide not to elaborate.

Octavia puts her hand on yours.

"You should stay with us here, in my hall. I would be delighted for your company and could help in reclaiming the knowledge you have lost. Another one of the family being here would help me with matters of court as well. London is a troublesome city to rule."
>>
>>32664299
