“It’s true.” Terminal nods.

“And the evidence is in Harriet’s legs.” You explain.

“Really?” Hardesty smirks. “How much do you think Horizon would pay to get that evidence?”

“Probably just enough to make it too troublesome for Declan to kill us.” You scoff.

“It is unlikely that Declan is the Corporate Court’s only SCIF.” Dreadnought says. “The loss of one is unlikely to be critical for their operations, and they would not have information on their other fronts within Declan’s offices.”

“So we cripple Declan and we’re home free?” Bunny asks.

“As close to it as we’re gonna get.” Terminal says. “Really, we can pick and choose who we give the information to. We could even still do Hardesty’s plan if we felt like it.”

“That’s all well and good,” you say, “but there’s a serious problem with this plan.” There is actually a handful of serious problems, more than you think can be fixed. However, there’s one in particular that will completely cripple this plan unless it’s addressed.

Well, you have Tripwire on your side, and he can pretty well handle physical infiltration. Essentially, you can shore up one of those vulnerabilities at the expense of having to find someone to handle the other.

“I barely made it into Harriet’s cyberware the first time, and that’s before the system realized what I was trying to do. I don’t know if I’ll be able to do it again with the tech I have now.” You’re not usually the type who attributes human qualities to machines, but A.I. code is an exception. “I’ll need to upgrade.”

“We’ve got plenty of tech lying around here, if you want to borrow some.” Terminal offers.

“No, I’ll need something… better. Something prototype.” You can’t think of many people with access to prototype hardware who aren’t obscenely dangerous to deal with. The software would be a little easier to come across so long as you weren’t looking for malware.

“Well, next-gen hardware would definitely do the job.” Terminal ponders. “But are you sure? I mean, this stuff isn’t exactly easy to come by.”

“I know where I can get the software for it, but it would put me in pretty severe debt to get it.” You explain. Thankfully, Neurophage’s version of ‘serious debt’ was surprisingly light. “As for the hardware… Well, I think it could get it, but it might be a bit difficult.”

“Just difficult?” Hardesty scoffs. “Where do you plan to find prototype shit outside of the MCT Zero-Zone?” You can feel your face twisting into the unpleasant grin you always get when you’re about to propose something inhumanly reckless.

“Yeah.” Fury nods. “A couple of groups I know send convoys to raid Fort Lewis every couple of…” she trails off before bursting out laughing. “Seriously?! Fort Lewis? You’re gonna scavenge tech from a military base?”

“We’ve got a Russian commando, an American commando, some kind of commando, a go-ganger, a mage, a point-man and three hackers. We’re about as well-fortified for an intrusion as we can be. I just need to get to a supply room. Once I’ve got my hands on a commlink, we can slot and run. If we can’t do that much with these numbers, then we’re dead no matter what we do.”

“This is a horrible plan.” Hardesty says. “I love it. When do we start?”

“Tonight.” You shrug. “We probably only have until tomorrow before Declan starts looking for us for real, so we don’t really have the luxury of time.”

“You really like making things difficult, don’t you?” Hardesty asks. “Well, if my team’s game, I’m game.”

“I’ve never broken into a UCAS base before.” Tripwire cracks his knuckles. “There’s a first time for everything.”

“We don’t really have a choice, do we?” Bunny shrugs.

“If I had a better idea, I’d have said it already.” Terminal says.

“Fury, how long do you think it’d take to put together an impromptu go-gang raid on Fort Lewis?”

“If there isn’t already one happening tonight, I bet there’s a gang itching to do it.” Fury smirks. “I’ll talk to some old friends in Tacoma. They’ll be ready.”

“Good. While they’re starting shit for the base, we’ll use the confusion to sneak in and find a supply room. Once we find what we’re looking for, we split and give the gang the signal to do the same. If everything goes well, they’ll think we were just another gang looking to score some hardware.”

“They’ll notice the missing tech once they do inventory.” Hardesty says. “With all the heat you’ve got already, are you sure you want to piss off the UCAS government?”

“I have a friend who can take care of digital evidence.” You can already tell that your future is going to involve a lot of fieldwork for Phage.

“Then I guess we’re solid.” Hardesty sighs. “I gotta admit: this one might actually work. So, afternoon for prep and we meet up again at sundown?”

“Sounds good.” You nod.

You asked her about it last thread. Bunny didn't choose her street name. She was really nervous and jumpy on her first run, made a bunch of rookie mistakes that almost got people killed, and her team leader started using the name as a joke until it just sort of stuck.
