The art of Diabolism, of binding a creature of the Low Duchies to your will, is a precarious act. While some of the Low Subjects are eager or willing to obey the commands of Prime Realm inhabitants, others are more pernicious in their natures, seeking only to connive and deceive for the valuable souls of mortals. These mortal souls grow greater in value and power based on the accomplishments of the mortal who possesses them. For each triumph, or failure, the soul burns brighter and grander.
We, young one, are Diabolists, and you have spent many years studying theory and the origins of the Arte. Today is finally the day, the day of your graduation. You are no longer an Acolyte, cursed to serving the whims of your Byzantine Masters, but today are on the road to mastery of your own. Your Tutor, a relatively junior Diabolist, you imagine, waits for you, somewhat impatiently, as you prepare yourself to select your Rite of Induction.
“Come now,” she says flatly, “do not dawdle and waste more of my time, young one"
Your hand pauses as you reach forward. You glance away from the desk, laden with mystical artifacts, and gaze instead into a near by mirror.

You are a
1) Male, a Warlock
2) Female, a Witch

You are a
1) Teen; poor, inexperienced in life, but with a great deal of Vigor.
2) Adult; storied and onto the path of life, your Vigor is average.
3) Aged; well advanced into life, your Vigor fades.
4) Wizened; nearing the end of your journey, your Vigor is waning rapidly.

You are a young man, fresh in the world. You never saw the Cullings, or knew the world before they happened. Even your parents, whoever they are, barely remember them.

You’re mostly a ___ person at heart
1) Pensive, you are unwilling to embrace rash action. However, when given time to think, you are good at coming up with answers.
2) Vengeful, you are unwilling to allow slights against you to go unpunished; this makes you a terrifying enemy, which people will eventually come to respect.
3) Deceptive, you rarely speak the truth if you do not stand to gain from it; attempts at being genuine are difficult for you, but lying is easy.
4) Rash, you give little time to contemplation, and would rather act than think. This can catch opponents off guard, but you are vulnerable to traps.
5) Ambitious, you spare very few people in your self-proclaimed deserved place of glory; those who know your reputation are unwilling to trust, but those who can be useful to you know they would do well to remain so.
6) Sadistic, you enjoy the infliction of pain on those who displease or amuse you; if the opportunity presents itself you would rather humiliate and harm than end a conflict quickly.
7) Militant, you adore the din of combat, the scent of blood, sweat, and steel mixed into an undistinguishable cocktail; unlike many other Diabolists you are not unwilling to take up arms, but making peace and taking a gentle path is difficult for you.

You have always been an introspective young man, quick to find an answer with your great mind, but slow to make a decision that carries risk. Your excellent thoughts, however, have earned you high praise from your Master, at least when she isn't frustrated with your slowness.

"Come now, lad, choose." Your mind snaps back to the table as you focus on an important choice.

Your First Tool is
1) The Gauntlet, allowing for the best mixture of speed and safety, the gauntlet is the standard device for most Diabolists. It can hold a reasonable number of Pacts, but allows for flexibility. However, if taken or broken, like all items, you are powerless. The Gauntlet is able to use Mandates just as easily as it can use Pacts. It is favored by the most well-rounded Diabolists.
2) The Staff, favored by Diabolists who employ Mandates rather than Pacts, it harkens back to the long-dead Elementalist wizards of old, allowing the user to become a walking artillery piece of mystical power. While it can be used for Pacts, Mandates must be used through the sworn Low Subjects inscribed on the staff, rather than allowing the full flexibility of an un-Pacted Staff.

(cont)
>>
>>32676166
3) The Mark, the tool for the most dedicated Pact Diabolist, the Mark etches each Pact into the flesh of the user. It cannot be taken from you, save for in rare circumstances, and tying the pact to your flesh gives a more intimate connection with your Subjects, allowing for faster and more natural summons. However, the Mark is ill-suited for Mandates, as the Diabolist must channel the infernal energies through his body, resulting in destructive effect.
4) The Scribe, a bundle of scrolls, mystically empowered inks, and a portable storage box, which fits in any pack or chest, this allows for fully disposable tools. By crafting each Pact on a scroll, as well as each Mandate, a Diabolist can bring unparalleled power with him, if he is prepared. However, due to the timely nature of the creation of these scrolls, if ambushed, and faced with something that he is incapable of handling, the Diabolist is left with few options.
5) The Imbuement, by placing the equivalent of a Mark on a Ritual Sword, the Diabolist is capable of mixing magic and melee, as Champions of old did in cooperation with their Arcanist Masters. However, sacrificing a dedication to the mystic arts for a more mundane weapon has downsides. Should the blade be taken, you are even more hindered than other Diabolists. Additionally, the blade is not nearly as resonant to the infernal energies as the other relics, allowing only weaker Pacts and weaker Mandates.

You are daring for one so young. There still exist pockets of the world whose people fear and ostracize the Diabolists for their "traffiking with daemons" or other such nonsense.

Your Master orders you to raise your sleeve, placing the first ink on your unblemished skin. The vessel is now prepared. The call is sounded.

Your First Pact will be

1) A Reaver, a Subject who favors rapid combat. This creature is lightly armored, but carries a vicious weapon that allows it to inflict great harm. The Reaver is a specialist in assassination, open confrontation, and anything involving savagery. It is generally of average intelligence, but has great perceptions.
2) A Brute, a Subject whose greatest strength is his defense. The Brute is often of roughly human size, but possesses either inherent great bodily strength, durable scales, or rapid reflexes. It is of low intelligence, but has an innate drive to guard its Master.
3) A(n) Incubus/Succubus, a Subject whose talents lie off the fields of battle. This Subject is best used for deceit, infiltration, and subterfuge.
4) A Mystic, a Subject whose greatest skill is their magical might. The Mystic is physically weak, but nearly an equal to the Diabolist in terms of sorcerous power. Their great library of vile spells provide a host of offensive spells and defensive spells. They are extremely intelligence, dangerously so. However, their physical forms are weak.

You dare to tread where few Warlocks or Witches are comfortable; calling a Subject of equal wit, or frighteningly enough, greater wit, to your own.

The invocation falls dully from your lips, the words becoming script as the blood morphs and shifts to become a call that reaches beyond the world you inhabit.

A flash of light and the blood is gone, standing in the middle of the circle is a lanky monstrosity. withered and skeletal with a horrific face akin to a snarling skull resplendent with jagged hooked fangs. Its voice creaks out, sounding as if it had no spoken in decades.

"I answer your call, Master. I am Vorelix, the Seeker of Truth, hailing from Azoriz." You know well the Duchy he comes from; Azoriz is famous for its masterful spellcaster-like Subjects.

It looks down at the circle, eyes scanning the entirety of it quickly. Its smile widens, but eyes narrow. "I see you've constructed the circle well, Master. Very well, what are the terms of our summons?"

Do we already have pre-established rules for payment?
Can these sacrifices be made throughout the time of employment?
Or do we keep a cellar full of orphans for just such an occasion?

If either of the last to are "yes", option #2.
>>
>>32676489

Short-term, summoning doesn't seem challenging, why sign up for a big contract?

>Average, up to a month. Fee: 3 Human Souls
Seems reasonable for the moment. Though a year for 20 souls seems like a steal in comparison to the other rates. I assume those 20 souls are supposed to be human and the demon didn't just make a huge fuck up right?
>>
>>32676550

This.
He obviously doesn't want to work together, he most likely wants to use us and fuck us over while doing so.
>>
>>32676503
>>32676522
The payment can be made any time during the Subject's service. Souls are weighted differently. The average peasant's soul isn't even worth a single soul to Subjects of a certain caliber, while the soul of a great hero or Diabolist can be worth many hundred of souls. A Diabolist stores souls in a brooch, ring, or other gemstone.

"Away, we shall end our pact here." The Subject bows his head and vanishes in a flash of light.

Your Master sighs, running her gloved hand through her hair, "You are very difficult to work with, Alaster. Very well, before you select your Subject, perhaps you should choose your gift. Be warned, these Gifts are not held by everyone, and they are valuable, from my personal collection."

Finally, your parting Gift is

1) The Tome of Names, a great resource for finding more out about the Low Duchies and their notable subjects, as well as the art of Pacts.
2) The Exemplar's Cloak, a mantle that confers an aura of authority to the wearer that impresses lesser men as well as Low Subjects of feeble intellect.
3) The Wand of Wonders, a mysterious wand that holds unknown and hidden powers. Use it at your own risk.
4) Robes of the Novice, a standard uniform for all Diabolists that gives slight protections against infernal energies from outside sources and gives a shroud of darkness in low light situations.

You, gratefully, take the Tome and immediately set it on the lectern nearby, scouring its contents for greater knowledge of Pacts. It reads:

"It is possible to select the specific Duchy, general 'Class' of Subject, or even an individual Subject if you know all the proper variables. The correct ingredients must be present to draw them forth, and the Great Subjects or Dread Lords can only be called with unique and rare objects that hold specific value to them. For novices, however, proper arrangements can be made to call a Class or Duchy with enough ease." You quickly pause to scan your arm, seeing that, indeed, the tattoo calls towards Mystic subjects.

You delve deeper into the Tome.

"It takes a caster of great talent to tune his call such that he can name the specific traits of his Subject, but it can be done with proper experience. A Journeyman is expected to be able to conjure a Subject of a specific talent with under an hour of preparation. The more specific your call, with no Artefact to help in locating your target or without the target being a singular Subject, the longer it takes to cast. Recalling a formerly summoned Subject, by contrast, is relatively fast. The time needed is reduced by half, due to the innate 'feel' all Diabolists have for Subjects they have called, if even for a few moments."

"To call a Subject of greater or lesser of a specific attribute, offering more or less of their Catalyst is recommended. For example, a Subject of only the greatest strength can be called by heaping mounds of flesh in the circle, whilst one of lowly guile can be called with a scrap of a page from a book. The inverse is also true; a genius of a demon can be called with the greatest and most thought-provoking books for sacrifice."

You ask about the circle and she looks around it, gesturing at a few runes that could be otherwise improved slightly, though the circle is functional as it is. She also suggests that you use a Catalyst if you want to have something of a specific caliber.

You root through the Master's inventory of relics and produce something from Zordas, a Decree of Imperial Authority, signed by Grand Duke Ignatio himself. You place it in the circle and fetch meat, placing it in the circle and begin chanting, pouring the blood to open the gateway to the Subject.

A fanfare blasts through the summoning chamber, causing Falzar to hiss loudly and lower its head, defensively. Standing in the center of the circle, tall and proud, is a red-skinned, red like blood, female creature, easily your height or taller, with a helm under one arm, a shield on her back, and a sword on her hip.

She kneels, "Master, I have answered the call. I am Dame Tyre of the Empire of the Low Duchies, fifteen-times removed from Grand Duke Ignatio, eternal be his name!" She says, proudly as she lifts her eyes to meet yours. "Do you have need of my services, Sire?"

I intend to achieve my aims through development of my talent and growth in power through consumption. I am but a mere Battle Mistress, one of thousands. I am....under-experienced relatively speaking..." Her red eyes flash, "But, that doesn't mean that I am incapable of being useful. I will do my best to earn my keep."
>>
>>32677684
She SEEMS on the up and up, as demons go. Being a martial type, she appears to willing to strike a fair deal and won't try to screw us over.
It could be all a trick, of course, but the description of her home Duchy implies that subterfuge is not part of her repertoire.

Let's move to making a contract with her. Be a tough, but fair, negotiator.
We've already probably made a bad impression on one Duchy, let's not do the same to another.
>>
>>32677804
>>32677684

Your Master comes up beside you and whispers, "This one appears the perfect mix of inexperienced and talented to be a good first summon. I wouldn't pass this up."

"I offer you a contract for a year. You will get half of all souls I have gathered at the end of it. This means, in large part, your work is a factor in this. You will not harm me, you will not through inaction allow harm to come to me, nor will you inform or abet any attempts to harm me." She nods and extends her hand to the limits of the circle, "I do so swear it, Master. I will bring great rewards to your cause." You nod, "Then the Pact is made." You reach your marked hand in and she touches your tattoo. The Mark sears hot for a moment before a unique design to her appears on it and she rises.

You dismiss the circle, and she stands up, towering nearly a head over you on her hoofed feet.Your Master smiles and pats your shoulder. "Now, you are ready. So, first, let us see where you should go."

You walk with her to a map of the local Barony. She points a few locations. "There are several open requests for a Diabolist's aid, there is a minor noble who requests a guard and confidant here, and, finally, there is a mercenary company that is forming with the intention of hunting Theurgists."

What is the Noble and Company?
And what exactly would a mission entail?

Who are Theurgists, what are their powers, how are they viewed in relation to diabolists, and what is the relationship between diabolists and Theurgists?
>>
>>32678070

(Missions are short-term requests by paying clients who place their orders through the local Coven. Your Master has a seat in the Coven, so you would be working closely with her. The Nobleman probably is worried about a peasant uprising, an assassination attempt, or a revolt. So, he wants a Diabolist close at hand to help quell it. Companies are short-term bands of Diabolists who assemble in an effort to root out Theurgists. Theurgists are the only other Art of Magic that seems to have survived the Cullings, at least in this plane. Theurgists are the opposite of Diabolists, they call Subjects of the Celestial Conclave; Archons, Seraphs, Angels, Lanterns, Virtues, and Thrones. Diabolists and Theurgists, formerly, were simply two sides of a similar coin, but since the Diabolists secured power after the Cullings, they are now your bitter foes who wage a secret war against the Council of Nine, the supreme group of Diabolists.)

You explain the missions to Tyre who immediately speaks up, "The hunt! I would most prefer the hunt, Master." She says and puts her helmet on, her horns giving her a menacing appearance.

Your Master pulls you aside for a moment and whispers, "Take heed, Alaster, you would be wise to not heed the counsel of Subjects. Even the most lowly can be deceptive and lead you into ill fortunes." You thank her for the warning, but tell her that you wish to join the Company.

>>32678239
(Other than our Brute, we are rather defenseless. It is recommended for someone who is so Pact oriented to have a Menagerie; a host of Subjects at their call, or to acquire something that allows them to do Mandates if they wish to be more 'active' in combat. In combat, with your Subject, you can help them, healing them, making them faster or stronger, or giving them magical shielding, through the connection you share with them via the Pact.)
>>
>>32678316
"Do not worry Master, it is not counsel, an eager and willing subject is a better subject, no?"

And how would we gain a Menagerie?
>>

The arrangements are made, you bearing a document from your Master to present to the head of the Company. Tyre rides alongside you, a coal-black steed appearing at her call for her to ride into battle with.

By the end of the night you reach the camp where several tents are set up. A few guards intercept you, but upon seeing your document take you to the Master. Sitting in the largest tent is a man who, upon seeing him, you dislike immediately.

He wears his robes open at the chest, showing garish pants worn by nobles and a laid-back attitude. He relaxes on a bed of cushions, his shoulders being rubbed by a human looking woman with small horns. "Ah, what's this, another to join our noble quest?" Even his voice sounds lazy.

Tyre, you can oddly sense, dislikes him as well, revolted at his use of Subjects as little more than slaves and servants, rather than the sacred tools they are meant to be.

(Also, gotta take a quick break for RL stuff. Be back ASAP. While I'm gone, discuss what kind of Subject you want next, perhaps?)

Tyre begins polishing her blade, silently focusing on whatever it is she would be focusing on.

You sit down on the small stool provided for you and contemplate how best to spend your evening.

(Mandates are extremely short summons, usually about .5 a second to a second in length, involving borrowing a spell from a demon at random, at the most basic. Because of the high variance of the spell you never know what to expect, unless you are calling to a specific demon for his talent.)

You open the Tome and pour over its depths, letting the words sink in.

"To many young Warlocks, the role of a Pact summoner is simply one of an anchor for demons. While, vulgarly stated, this is true; a Pact Diabolist is more akin to a conductor for an orchestra. Poor Pact users simply throw their legions of Subjects into battle and hope for the best. The great Pact users, such as Nineling Dusk, can command ten Subjects into a lethal fighting force, no matter their origins. Truly, in this writer's opinion, there is no true facet of our Arte greater than the command over several Subjects and their orchestration in battle."

You pause reading the blustery words of the Tome and face Tyre, "Have you fought a Theurgist before, Tyre?" She looks up, breaking her reverie to speak, "No, Master, I've never fought a Theurgist. However, I have fought that which they call to their side, the Celestials. One on one, they out-match any Low Subject of roughly equivalent strength, by a long shot. However, their numbers are only in the hundreds, ours are in the tens of thousands." She points at her horn, which you can see is cut five times.

"See? One for each Celestial I've killed and consumed. The soul of a Celestial is....incredible. The power and virtue in there is beyond description, and can be used for powerful sorceries. Soul Manipulation, after all, is one of the Diabolist arts, I know that." You begin to correct her, but pause. You do recall your Master mentioning it once, but saying that it was largely considered a taboo to do so, since manipulating souls can ruin the system with the Low Subjects, as well as render a Pact Summoner powerless, if done correctly. Additionally, it is largely a forgotten art since the Shamans, the Ancestral Magicians, were Culled.

>>

"Tell me about where you come from." She nods at your order, "The Empire....it is vast. Though, like all Duchies, it is constantly expanding. It is a massive fortress-citadel. There are training grounds, drill yards, mustering fields, practice battlefields, libraries, mess halls, and housing for nobles. Truly, it has everything, but mostly it is a place where we all try to overcome the differences of the Low Duchies and try to unite them under the banner of the Grand Duke himself. I was spawned an Imp fifty years ago and ascended to my current form a decade ago."

When you ask her about the Celestials she laughs, "The only weakness we know that they have is humans. They seem to be extremely weak to the cries of humanity for help. In practical terms, though? They are neutral to our weapons, and mortal weapons seem to harm them very little. The only thing that harms them extremely is the Primal Fire of Dragons, but they are long dead since the Culling." She shakes her head, "The War against the Celestials has gone on for many many hundreds of years."

You then ask about her battles, to which she smiles. "Well! I don't mean to brag, but four of my kills were earned in single combat. The fifth kill, however, is my pride. I was flanked by two Seraphs, their upper level warriors, and with a sweep of my blade I cleft the arm of one and the head of another. They are difficult to engage because of their flight, however. I cannot fly, since I'm not a Handmaiden."

"So, to fight them, I have to rely on their desire to kill me and fight them in a dive. That's why my sword is so needlessly long, both handle and blade." She shows you the handle, and it's easily a yard long. The blade itself is taller than she, but seems shorter when she carries it. Perhaps it's magic.

"It's honestly more of a pike than a sword, at this point, but it's carried me through a hundred battles, and I don't see myself ever going back to standard arming sword and shield." She returns to polishing the blade, before turning her head up, "You are very inquisitive. I am not a talker by nature, but if you have one more question, I can tolerate it."

"One of our weapons? Well, they are complicated in nature. They're made from the marriage of our essences to souls, and forged in a Blastforge. At least, that's how we make them in the Empire. We have Foundrymen, massive creatures of muscle and thick hide, who make these weapons for us when we are conscripted. It's useful, partially, because these weapons are hard to break and impossible to lose, since we can recall them at any time. As I mentioned, they change along with us, so since I found myself wanting more and more range and reach, it evolved to be like me." She taps the metal which rings like a graveyard bell, "I polish it, not because I need it, but because it helps keep my focus."

She looks over at you, "I suppose you COULD call forth a Pactblade. That's summoning a demon's weapon and binding it, like you would normally do for a demon. It's like a sword, but semi-sentient, and can help compensate for your lack of skill in combat."

"Yes, I am ready. We shall hunt in the morning." She says and lays her head down. You lay down on your cot and quickly fall asleep.

A horn sounds in the morning, waking you up as you ready yourself. All of you, at least a dozen, closer to 20, gather in the copse, some of you, the newest probably, have their Subjects visible and following behind them. Most of the elders, you assume again, have their Subjects hidden."

The captain of the Company emerges, a long staff in his left hand, several artifacts of power easily visible on him. Despite his care-free attitude he's clearly a man of great power, or at least position.

"Everyone," he says, sweeping his arm grandly, "Today we will root out the villains that are the Theurgists. They resist our laws and fight against us. So, without further ado, let the hunt begin. Follow my lead." He steps up and climbs aside a muscle-bound monster with long tusks like a boar. Everyone mounts their various steeds, you as well, and take off into the woods.

Ten minutes later the captain calls out from the front, "Here they are! Charge!" He raises his staff, a blast of energy washing forward in the shape of a red clawed hand. The other Diabolists engage as well.

You arrive and see two Theurgists, holding icons in front of their faces, and they snap to face you. Tyre charges forward and engages one of them. The other begins chanting, his icon glowing.

You can see the summoning energies convalescing.

A golden circle begins being drawn in the air. The first Theurgist, charged by Tyre, falls dead as she engages with a winged man who swings his long spear down at her, the blade glancing her shoulder as she engages in the fight.

Your attentions, however, are focused on the Theurgist summoning in front of you. Somehow, and you aren't quite sure how, you can see the magic, like strands of light, weaving together and forming the door.

You decide that, while thinking is where you are comfortable, battle requires quick action. You've certainly read about it enough...

Thrusting your hand forward, you grab the strands of magic with your Pact bound hand. A jolt of energy runs up your arm and the circle finishes. However, a tattoo winds up your forearm to your elbow. "Be careful, Brother." The voice that speaks is not Tyre, but a strong masculine voice. A warm presence shoots past you and a heavy object flies through the air. The Theurgist drops to the ground, a radiant arrow through his eye.

Wing flaps sound behind you as you look and see a radiant man in silver robes, holding a bow made of light. "Brother, are you harmed?" He narrows his eyes and speaks, "Wait...you...are not a Theurgist." You look at your arm, the Pact sign appears to be etched in white, rather than the black ink used by your Master to bind Tyre to your aid.

The captain's voice pierces the clearing, "Come on, lads, we have them on the run!"

Tyre runs over, sword in hand, "Master! Be careful! I'll get rid of this Celestial!" Madreon makes no effort to face her, or even fly away, simply floating a few feet off the ground in a defensive position, guarding you.

If he does not what to duel then there's little reason to force him to.
Not to mention, if we keep summoning / killing we'll eventually end up with some really overpowered shit landing in our lap.
>>

No need to call her out though, she cant be everywhere at once. Plus he just killed a defenseless man and shot another angel in the leg by the time the second one would have reached us she would be done with the first.

They get another one. There are tens of thousands of them and they are able to spawn more.

I didn't think we could re summon the same angel or demon, but rather if we did do so for the simple purpose of slaughtering them, eventually a higher demon or angel would pop into our lap and slaughter us.

"I am no Theurgist. However, this is an anomaly. We shall return to my Master's to further dissect this situation. Both of you, follow me." Tyre, grinding her teeth beneath her helmet, mounts her horse. Madreon, meanwhile, holds his hands together and vanishes from sight. You are about to speak out, but you can feel his presence, not behind you exactly; closer and yet further away. You assume that he has shifted to the parallel plane to be concealed from sight.

You return to your Master's in the dead of night, and to your slight relief, she appears gone. You enter the sanctuary and close the door behind you, the demonic seal fastening the door shut.

Madreon appears in front of you as Tyre dismounts. "Master! I've kept my tongue, what do you expect me to do?" The demonic woman puts her helmet under her arm as the sword shrinks to accommodate a sheath. The Virtue remains silent, as he has since he saw Tyre.

"Silence, both of you." You say authoritatively. You ponder the situation. "I'm going to study this, but first....do either of you know of something like this ever happening before? I demand you speak truth." Tyre shakes her head, "I have never heard of such a thing, Master."

Madreon opens his mouth, "No, this thing was forbidden to happen. The Theurgists and Diabolists, in fact, swore to an Oath. Or, I suppose for you Diabolists, a Pact. The Binding of Gert, sworn between the Luminous Geisel and the Abyssal Nort. The reasoning behind it was that one who could control both realms was a threat to the other Ten Schools. Of course, the Culling destabilized all of that, and the Binding was shattered by your Council of Thirteen, now Nine."

"Well...the Culling destabilized the entire power balance of both the Upper and Lower Planes, the Umbra Realm, the Spiritual Kingdom, all the Elemental Realms....everything. Unfortunately, sometimes, you humans and your stable plane hold the balance of many realms. After the Culling...it's pretty clear that, somehow, Diabolism won. I suppose crawling in with filth like the Low Duchies is enough to endure even the worst of purges."

"The Schools, tell me about them." He crosses his arms, "Do they not teach you history? Before your kind ruled, there were Twelve Schools of Sorcery; Arcana, Elementalism, Ancestry, Elder Art, Cerebremancy, Runecraft, Alchemistry, Naturalism, Umbramancy, Sanguimancy, Diabolism, and Theurgy. Mages, like you, ruled the world, kept in check by one another's power. However, most mages either perished or fled during the Culling." When you ask about the Binding he winces, "Well, while the Binding is no longer in place, I'm certain your peers wouldn't be happy to see you trafficking with Celestials. Nor would your demonic partners." When asked about what they want he sighs, "Celestials serve for the feeling of relief, salvation, and the ascension of the human soul. That is what powers us." He admits, Tyre's ears perking up at that note. "Anything else?" The Celestial asks you, his eyes downcast.

Dame Tyre, you consume souls, but is that the only way that demons acquire power from them?"
>>
>>32682903
When asked where the soul ascends to, he shakes his head, "I'm sorry, Brother, I cannot tell you, because I do not know. I simply know what the Principalities tell us." When you ask him about magic and Theurgy he crosses his legs, floating in the air as his wings slowly beat, keeping him aloft.

"Theurgy is not the art of binding Celestials to your service, but rather, calling to the proper ones for aid. The Art was born in the dark history of humanity as they struggled to survive against the horrors in the world. We, the Celestials, heard their pleas and saved them. As far as the other schools go, I cannot rightly say what they exactly did, and no one else could tell you either. The monsters of the Culling purged away all practitioners and devoured all knowledge they could, as their initial directive ordered them to. What little I know, from what battle I've done, I can tell you, but I do not know how to work their arts."

Tyre speaks up, "Master, what do you intend to do? Even if you can summon both High and Low Subjects, what is your plan?"

"It's interesting," he volunteers, cutting your next words off, "You have managed to work your Diabolist bindings into Theurgistic practices. You called for me, and then trapped me into a binding. I must say, it's never been done before, as Celestials can usually read the intentions of their summoner." You nod, and then tell them the plan. "Alright, we will be striking out to find a safe place to practice and figure out exactly what we can do together." Madreon speaks up, "Certainly, but it will be difficult without funding. I can tell, Brother, that you are rather bereft, and considering your abandonment of the fight, we will have a hard time paying for somewhere." Tyre smiles, showing her bright dangerous smile, "We can figure that out." You nod, a headache starting to develop as the two of them glare at one another.

"Alright. Let's get going."

(And that's where we're gonna stop tonight. We'll be starting same time I started today on Wednesday. Then again on Friday. I think an M/W/F schedule will work. Well, our nice magiks include minor reprimand and control abilities against targets in a summoning circle. Of course, they don't have to be SUMMONED targets, per se, but any Diabolist worth their salt won't fall into a stupid trap like stumbling into our circle. However, if someone does get in there, we can shock and bind and banish them, just like we could any Low Subject.

What do we know about the culling?
>>
>>32684749
Your Twitter Account?
>>
>>32684781
That's a super plot important question, but I suppose we can cover it again when it's brought up next time. I'll make it the summary at the next OP.

The Culling was an event where the Gargoyles broke their bonds and began slaughtering mages wholesale. Gargoyles, created under the decree of the last Grand Arcanist, as a sort of "end-all-be-all" weapon against rogue mages who would try to assert themselves outside of the proper channels. Gargoyles, created in collaboration of all Twelve Orders, are the ultimate in mage and magic hunting and killing machines. They are stronger than giants, faster than dragons, more silent than a shadow, and nearly impervious to magic thanks to their Spellturn Runes and Null Stone hides. Nearly all mages, save for a few Theurgists and a surprising amount of Diabolists, escaped the Culling.

>>32684808
Ah, shit, hang on a sec. Can't believe I forgot that.
>>
>>32684808
https://twitter.com/DMQOP

There we go.
>>
>>32684884
>escaped
You mean died in the culling right? How did it end?
>>
>>32685076
The Gargoyles eventually tore most of themselves apart. Not all, however, there are still estimated to be about anywhere between ten and thirty Gargoyles left, roaming the world, hunting down the greatest sources of magic and waiting for the proper time to strike. And yes, I did mean died. Only the Theurgists and the Diabolists survived, to our knowledge.

Every so often a Gargoyle appears and special Companies, called Skybreaker Companies, are formed of the best Diabolists and their Subjects. There's around a 30-40% survival rate of around 10 Warlocks/Witches to 1 Gargoyle. That's assuming they actually manage to kill it and not just wound it enough to make it flee.
>>
>>32684906

lol
>>
>>32685134
gargoyles just killed the mages, that doesn't mean they destroyed their works and studies, right?
Could we find some survived tomes and learn new schools of magic?
