You are Josh Finn and are 20 years old. You are also on the edge of a deep-sea canyon that is deeper than the Grand Canyon(not that the Grand Canyon is impressive, you can swim to the bottom in an hour) and there is the Statue of Liberty. Looks weird missing an arm and glowing. Wait why the hell is it glowing?

Oh, it’s just a vampire squid shooting it’s ink at a swarm of green lights. Green lantern sharks! Only a a foot long, but vicious and hunt in packs. You saw them eat half of a whale shark in twenty minutes. Looks like there are about 15 of them, judging from the lights. The squid shot past, trailing blue ink but something even brighter was drawing their attention. Your helmet’s crown lights! Too late you shut them off with a jab at your wrist, you see the pack zeroing in on you! Doesn’t help much, you can’t unring a dinner bell.

You turn on your manta board, turn it's headlights, and enter in 4663. Releasing the board, it flys off toward your farm. Once the manta board has a slight lead and the green lantern sharks swimming after it, you kick off deeper into the canyon.

Your wet suit, laced with carbon nanotubes, warms your body against the chill of the canyon. Lights float by, anglerfish and squids, unable to find you or scared off by the pheromones released by the suit.

On a small outcropping, a smaller miner's rig sits. The miners search for black pearls, manganese nodules scattered on the floor of the ocean. Only, the rig doesn't have it's lights on. Probably just a safety precaution to stop green lantern sharks or squid along with claim jumpers that would take the manganese nodules. Thankfully, it has the added effect of showing the lack of lantern sharks.

You circle around the rig looking for a way in, eventually swimming under through the muck(how miners can stomach this you don't know) under the airlock. You swim up to the rig's air lock, the door dilating like an eye to allow your entrance. Climbing the ladder into the dry room, you pull off your helmet and cough the Liquigen out of your lungs.

The dry room is covered in a dark substance. Searching for the light switch, you stumble on a harpoon gun and jam the button for the lights. The floor is covered in blood, looks like the miner butchered a large fish, maybe a sunfish, but sunfish don't empty weapons racks and knock down the storage lockers.

You walk down the hallway, toward the living quarters, when you hear a knocking on the metal of the rig! Is a giant squid attacking the sub? No, the sound is to regular, a 1-2 beat. Footsteps!

You rush out of the living quarters, into the bloody dry room. You grab the harpoon gun off the floor, slinging the rifle on your back. Lifting the helmet onto your head, the Liquigen nozzle slipping into place between your lips. Sucking down the green gel, the familiar felling of it sliding into your lungs calming your heart rate.

Stumbling from a shaking of the rig, you slam against the wall. Suddenly, a red light on the ceiling begins to flash. Odd, the release button for the airlock is on the other side of the room.That must mean that someone is coming in from outside! Looking up through the glass ceiling, a giant shark is visible.

The Specter! The Seablight gang's sub! It seems to be attached to the hooks on the top of the rig. And a member of the gang is trying to get in. Great.

You level your harpoon rifle at the ladder and feel your spines on your forearms stand up.

Rocking your head back, you move the helmet off and cough out the Liquigen. The Liquigen lets you dive without getting the bends or having to decompress but you can't talk with it in your lungs.

The gang member, a large man with a strong shine and incredibly pale skin. He must be an albino, Shade! The leader of the Seablight gang and the only member who doesn't darken his faceplate, is about to get captured by you. Maybe there's a reward.

The albino climbs the ladder without looking up and takes off his helmet before seeing you.

"Stop right there criminal scum"you shout.

The albino turns around, holding his hands above his head

"Easy buddy, no need to do anything hasty" Shade says."What are you doing in this prison? Is Doctor Nicholas still experimenting on people here? Where are the rest of you?"

"What are you talking about, this isn't a prison, this is a miner's rig. Right?
