Now with shit actually done right.

>So what is this, anyway?
A quest set in the Gundam franchise's Universal Century, UC 0083.

>How does voting work?
You'll have 10 minutes to vote on a course of action, and roll if that's required. The first three rolls for the winning course of action will be considered, with higher rolls being better. Write-ins are encouraged, and may end up worked into an update in some form. This is especially true for dialogue.

>How can I get caught up?
I have just the thing for you:

>Neat. So when do you usually run?
Saturdays and Sundays, from 10pm to 2am UTC (5pm to 9pm EST; 2pm to 6pm PST).

>Do you have a twitter?
Indeed: you can find me at @QMKingofHearts.

The date is February 3rd, UC 0083. You are Lieutenant Commander Dominic O'Hara, mobile suit pilot and 19 year-old veteran of the One Year War. In the last thread, you finally met the majority of your new team: a veteran Ground-Type Gundam pilot, a novice Ensign with high aptitude ratings and a keen interest in data analysis and mobile weapon design, and a Doctor whose name you still haven't learned. After outfitting your new machines, you retired to a ritzy hotel room in downtown San Diego, with the expectation that the next day would be your first time behind the stick in a Gundam.

Morning starts at 07:00 with a quick breakfast and a jeep ride back to EFAS Miramar, where you find a bunch of technicians busily loading rounds into the three Lilium-type mobile suits. You also spot the Doctor working at a computer station to one side of the cavernous room: he looks somewhat agitated.

Deciding that anything that could have upset the designer of your new mobile suits was worth knowing about sooner rather than later, you approached the Doctor. The old man looks up just in time to notice you.

"Morning, Doctor...." Come to think of it, you never actually learned his name. You simply never asked, and he never told.

The Doctor flashes you a sheepish grin. "Hey now, I almost forgot I wasn't surrounded by physicists... normal people usually introduce themselves, don't they? My name is Jay Ward: PhDs in Applied Minovsky Physics and Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Pleased to meet you."

"Doctor Ward, then. You seem a bit upset this morning?"

"You could tell, could you?" The Doctor crosses his arms and scowls. "Someone upstairs pushed up the date for the Lilium-line's field testing to today. I still haven't had a chance to go over all of Anaheim's needlework yet, so I have no idea if they're ready to go."

>Response? He seems hesitant to go forward with the tests, but it also seems like he feels he has no choice.
>>
>>32804257
Anything we can help out with? And does he know what the field tests might include, so we can inform our colleagues?
>>
Since I posted it in the last thread, here's my prediction on what we're going to be fighting, based on the Arc Name "Snow White": http://gundam.wikia.com/wiki/MS-09R4_Psycommu_Rick_Dom

>>

I was thinking much the same, anon. It's even called the "Schnee Weiss". Hopefully if that is our foe we won't have to fight it until the end of the arc, though.
>>
>>32804433
Yeah, same here. I don't want to fight against Haman Karn.

Honestly, I feel like we'd lose.
>>
>>32804257
Can we do anything to help? We're no engineer, but we've been pulling test pilot duty for the past few years. I'm sure Dominic knows how to go over a mobile suit for any system issues.
>>
>>32804514
That's what I'm thinking. We've done this a bunch, let's use our experience to help.
>>
>>32804222
Hey Hearts, I'm not sure if you've answered this. But is it possible perhaps later on we'll be able to change events and go into Alternate Timelines?
>>
>>32804502
What's even worse is that during the time when Haman was piloting the Schnee Weiss her wingman was Char. Not a fight I want to to get into. Either he'll be in a ridiculously powerful mobile armor or a custom super Gyan. Both of those prospects are very worrying.

>Ensign Audrey April's official portrait from AoZ
"So is there anything we can help out with?"

"Of course, Commander," Doctor Ward grins. "You'll be conducting the field-testing yourselves, after all. I'm sure it's nothing you haven't had to do before."

True enough, you and Lieutenant Marseille have been testing mobile weapons since the war ended, and from what you can tell that's the sort of thing Ensign April is interested in as well.

"I suppose I should go tell them. Live fire exercises, or mock combat?"

The Doctor's grin widens even further. "Mock combat, of course. Over on Miramar east. The paint rounds are just being loaded up now."

Your team seems excited to hear the news of the test, as you explain to them the parameters set by Doctor Ward.

"We'll have paint rounds for all our weapons," you tell them, "except for my beam rifle and Carya's beam machine gun. Those will be replaced with 100mm rifles for the time being. Beam sabers will be recorded digitally, and your heat rod won't be electrified, Carya."

"And what'll the teams look like?" Catrina asks. "Four GMs aren't going to stand a chance against us."

"The battles will be one on four."

Catrina smiles. "Sounds fun. Who gets to go first?"

You decide the only fair way to do it is to draw straws: you pull the shortest straw, the sisters pull the longest, and Ensign April pulls the medium-length. Damn, that means you'll be going last.

Catrina sticks their tongue out at you as the sisters climb up the scaffolding and into their cockpit, then march out along the airbase until they cross the I-15 with an impressive thruster-assisted hop. The rest of your team makes its way into the O-Club, where the feed from each machine's cockpit has been run to one television screen apiece. Even at this time of the morning, a small crowd has formed.

From the cockpit feeds, you can get a feeling for the area where you'll soon be fighting: large, open stretches of scrubland scattered with stone outcroppings, low hills, and canyons. In amid some of the hills, the marine layer has allowed a few trees to grow. No one strategy will be totally effective here, it seems: but almost any manner of engagement should at least be possible, from ambushes to long-range sniping.

The sisters' test run starts off about as well as you'd have imagined: using her machine's superior maneuverability, Carya lures their opponents into stretch of low, wooded hills and prepares to stage a series of fast hit-and-run attacks aimed at picking off one GM at a time. From the camera feeds, you can tell that the GM pilots are screwed. The first takes a half dozen shots to the back from her paint rifle, the second falls from a paint grenade to the cockpit hatch. For her third “kill” of the afternoon, you sense that Catrina is having a little fun as she uses her suit's heat wire to grapple a GM's arm before tagging out to Carya, who carefully maneuveres the Viola so that its grappled opponent accidentally shoots the fourth GM, before dispatching it herself with a second grenade and a burst from her shoulder-mounted cannons. The Viola comes out of the match a little muddy, but entirely paint-free.

>(1/2)
>>
>>32804951
So Carya and Catrina focus on different aspects of combat, then? Looks like Catrina's a better shot but Carya's got better agility and control. Imagine how overpowered they'd be if they got a funnel system so they could both act at the same time.
>>

>>32804951
“So, how'd you like it?” you ask as the sisters finally return back to the hangar and leave their new Gundam's cockpit.

“It's even better than we expected,” Carya informs you, excitement etched into her features. Catrina, whose enthusiasm simply can't be contained, briefly takes over to add that “It's totally kick-ass!” It almost looks like her red eyes are on fire from the pure adrenaline of her run.

Ensign April passes by you on her way to her own machine, the “Iris”, ready to begin her test. “I'd hope so,” she tells the sisters with a child-like grin. “Numbers can only tell you so much, so I can hardly wait to see for myself. And your test run's gotten me even more fired up for it than I was this morning.”

The sisters grin back at the Ensign and give her a thmbs-up. When it comes right down to it, you suppose most mobile suit pilots share a joy of the sheer visceral experience of piloting their machines, even if they disagree about everything else.

Ensign April's run is quite different from Carya and Catrina's. Instead of a hit-and-run strategy, she positions herself on a ridge overlooking a substantial portion of Miramar East. From that vantage point, she engages the GM team from a distance with her paint cannon. Two of the pilots are downed in short order before the team leader realizes that they've been engaged, and moves himself and his last remaining wingman to assault the Ensign's position by moving up a dry canyon to her left. You suppose he was trying to give himself some hard cover and concealment while they got into range. Unfortunately for them, Audrey must have had established the range of that particular route ahead of time, because a barrage of grenades lobbed in a high arc dropped around the two GMs, “killing” one and “damaging” the team leader.

>(KoH lied, 2/3. Have the image I've been using for Carya/Catrina as an apology)
>>
>>32805021
The mock battle ends in a “beam” saber duel, where you get the feeling that the Ensign is a little less confident. Audrey disengages, and the GM pilot tries to pursue her: only to be put down by a stream of 110mm and 60mm paint rounds to his machine's head and torso.

When you meet Ensign April in the hangar, you can tell she's still excited about her machine's performance.

"That was AMAZING!" she shouts before regaining her composure. "It was almost too responsive, though. Those magnetically coated joints take some getting used to."

At the base of your machine you find Commander Joshua waiting for you. "Commander?"

"Lieutenant Commander... don't embarrass us them too much," she tells you with a salute.

Right then. How to engage a numerically superior opponent?
>Lure them into a canyon where they can't maneuver properly
>Attack them from a distance, in the open where they have no concealment

We're here to gather data. CC took advantage of terrain. Audrey fought at range. So we should take the third option for thoroughness and charge in there.

>>32805106
Well, might as well try a direct assault. After all, what better way is there to test a new machine than to give your opponents as close to a fair fight as you can?

So when you first spot the group of GMs silhouetted along a ridge in the distance, you switch on your targeting system... and are confronted by the bewildering fact that your HUD seems to be incapable of getting a lock. The crosshairs dance wildly about the general direction of the lead GM, but you think you can squeeze a shot off...

>Never read it, so I wouldn't know. Do what you think is good for you, but remember it's still less than three full threads in.

When you feel like your crosshairs are in roughly the right place, you hit the firing stud and watch your fire arc wide and to the left of where it should have been going.

“God DAMN IT!” you snarl, quickly adjusting your fire to compensate. Luckily for you, you're either just that good or the GM pilot isn't too bright, because he jinks away from your first burst and practically walks into the second stream of paint you unleashed at him, taking him thoroughly out of the fight.

That shouldn't have happened. The crosshairs continue to dance unpredictably across your HUD, sometimes even switiching targets entirely. It seems like there's something wrong with your target acquisition software...

Confronted with a choice, you figure you have a few options
>Close in to close quarters, so that the faulty HUD is less of a problem (disregard guns, acquire swords)
>Shut off the HUD and use deflection shooting (-2 to hit against and admittedly easy target)

With the three GMs quickly approaching, you key your mic and send a laser communique back to the airbase.

"Primary weapon will not lock," you inform them, "I'm gonna close to sabers range and re-engage."

The three GM pilots open fire at your machine: two of them miss entirely, but the third comes surprisingly close to hitting you. If you hadn't just punched the thrusters into full, you might have even had to use your shield.

As you charge them head-on, you set one of the paint grenades in your suit's left arm rack to airburst at about 700 meters, and fire it off. As it explodes in a cloud of red paint, you can feel the GM pilots' confusion as for a moment your Gundam is obscured...

>>32806005
... only for their sensors to pick you up as you overshoot them entirely. The acceleration and responsiveness of the joints spoil your "swing", as your HUD shows a virtual blade of contained m-particles that cleanly misses one of the GMs.

Thankfully, your maneuver still managed to confuse them long enough to give you another shot...

With a quick burst of thrust from your suit's legs and backpack, you manage to leap high into the air, and drop your second grenade right between two of the GMs. You would have imagined they would have learned from the first two matches not to bunch up like that, but they were probably still disoriented from your initial assault.

That's fine by you, since the one grenade manages to "disable" the two GMs and coat the third's head camera with a thin layer of red. You have to feel a little sorry for the poor pilot as you empty your built-in weapons into his helpless machine's back. You think you even see a few rounds go into the GM's neck joint... that'll take forever to clean.

Returning to the hangar and dismounting, you find your team standing around together waiting to hear back from you.

"Well, the Lilium is a little more sensitive than I expected. I tried to treat it like my old GM Sniper II and it got away from me a bit."

"I see," the Doctor replies thoughtfully. "Yes, the new thruster layout on the backpack means that instead of attitude control, you're truly vectoring your thrust. Ms April avoided that entirely, and Ms Marseille managed by tapping the thrust. I think we may need to recalibrate these machines while you're getting used to it."

"You also said something about failing to lock?" Carya asks.

"Yeah, it seems like either the rangefinding system or the target recognition software is faulty. Spoiled my shots, so I had to switch over to deflection shooting and eyeballing the range."

Commander Joshua cocks an eyebrow. "Good thinking, kid. You got it done... but why did you charge like that?"

"I wanted to really test the Lilium out, so I figured I'd fight them head-on. Give them a better chance."

"I was hoping you didn't usually fight like that," Ensign April sighs with relief. "Less work for me if you don't trash the Lilium every other mission."

"Soooo... the Officer's Club has a pool," you offer. "Don't know when we'll see one of those again."

Commander Joshua nods. "You all have permission to relax. I'll let you know when our actual mission orders come down from the brass."

Hollinger and April both nod and excuse themselves to go retrieve things that they might be able to swim in, while Carya lingers to inform you that she's going to have to buy something from the base store.

Meanwhile, you spend some time assisting the Doctor with his systems analysis. It only takes him about five minutes to find the problem. What it turns out to be causes him to furrow his brow in frustration.

"Dammit," he growls. "Some idiot at Anaheim didn't load ANY targeting parameters."

"Wait, there's nothing there at all?" Karen asks.

"Exactly. If we hadn't run this test here, Mr O'Hara here may have been killed. Oh, I'd LOVE to find whoever fucked this up... I'd have a few choice words for him. Bet it was an intern. Lousy interns."

As the Doctor continues to mutter mutinously about interns and the various problems associated with them, you manage to sneak out and leave the actual job of programming to him.

The pool turns out to be 25 meters of pure relaxation. The southern California sun shines brightly on you as you toss your shirt on a deckchair. Your fellow officers and Hollinger have had plenty of time to change as well: the Sergeant sports a single-piece competition suit, April is wearing what look to be board shorts, and Carya and Catrina apparently settled on a black two-piece.

"Man, you're both kinda built," April observes as you take a seat on the chair. True, Marseille IS rather well-muscled.

"It helps with high-g maneuvering," Carya explains. "I started working out after being assigned to a J-Type. Didn't like feeling so heavy whenever I changed directions."

"And the lack of sunglasses?"

"It's not good to get too reliant on them," she explains.

"You may want to take notes, rookie," you taunt your juniormost pilot. "I still remember my basic training, with the drill instructor shouting at me to 'flex them chicken wings"." You do your best to imitate the instructor, a rather large and imposing man with a shaved head and biceps roughly half again as thick as your neck.

You fail horribly, but it still gets a chuckle.

"So, any of you up for a swimming competition?" you ask suddenly.

"I suppose," Audrey agrees, stretching out and standing up. "You game, you two?"

Reiko practically leaps to her feet. "I was BORN ready!" Crap, seems like you might have found something she's good at. Carya, on the other hand, hesitates.

"Something wrong?"

"Actually," she mutters, fidgeting a little in her deckchair. "We... can't really swim."

"Seriously?" Reiko asks.

Carya nods. "I grew up in a closed-cylinder colony with serious overcrowding. The closest we had to a pool growing up was the bathtub. Barely passed basic because of it."

"Huh, I suppose we could teach you after we're done," Audrey offers, before apparently catching herself being too kind. "I mean, we can't have you become a liability or something, and I grew up on Earth, so I've had plenty of chance to learn."

"Sure," Carya replies after a moment. "I'd like that."

>>32808288
As it turns out, you lose the competition handily. Not as badly as you'd have imagined, given how long you were in space for, but it wasn't exactly a great showing.

True to her word, Audrey starts to teach Carya how to swim. You can sense that Catrina is paying close attention too as her sister initially flounders in the water, but begins to sort of get the hang of it after a few minutes.

You decide to let Carya an Catrina alone for a while, since they seem to be focused solely on doggie-paddling from one end of the pool to the other. Your other two team members, on the other hand, seem to be a little more free to talk, and you know surprisingly little about either of them.

“So, what are your stories, ladies?” you ask as you casually drift between them on your back. “Any stories to tell that'd help me get to know you better?”

Audrey simply shrugs. “Not so much. A couple of my friends and I dropped out of college together to fight in the war. They went to the front, I ended up as an instructor out in the Sides. They died, I lived. My family's from the East Coast, so they were under Zeon rule for most of the war. It was hard not being with them.”

“So what were you doing in college?”

“Engineering,” she replies. No wonder she has a knack for analysis.

“And you, Reiko?”

“Oh,” she muses as she does a slow breaststroke. “I was a philosophy major. All I was good for was secretarial work, but believe me there was a mountain of it. I started off in a mailroom, of all places, but ended up on staff with an MS team. Really wish it was more exciting than that.”

And that explains why she's so interested in philosophy. It honestly makes you feel a little awkward having never graduated high school.

Sadly, before you can get any further, you find yourselves interrupted by a red-haired cannonball that showers the three of you in chlorine-y water. Seems Commander Joshua decided to join you.

"Aaah," she sighs when she comes back up for air. "Brisk... hope I didn't interrupt anything."

"No, not really," April replies, wringing out her short crop of hair. "Any word from command?"

"Actually, yeah. They finally deigned to tell us what we're doing. Doc Ward wants you to meet him in ten minutes." As you look down, you see that the Commander hasn't bothered to change out of her work uniform: she's just in her shorts and a tank top.

Noticing your stare, Karen pretends to cover herself with her hands. "Let's go, Dominic. You can enjoy the view some other time."

"What are you laughing at, Carya? You swim like a girl."

"And you lost to Reiko, so what does that say about you?" she retorts, Now it's Karen and Audrey who're having to stifle their laughter.

After drying yourselves and putting on something approximating your uniforms, you manage to ask Karen what she thought about your mission.

"Personally? I think it's possible. That's about the best I can say about it."

Your group makes its way over to the building where your Gundams are housed... only to find them gone.

"I see you've been enjoying yourselves," the Doctor laughs to himself. "Ah to be young again."

"Your first mission is simple, albeit difficult. Some time ago an EFF task group investigating rumors of a Zeon remnant group in the asteroid belt encountered resistance from several mobile weapons of unknown design and origin."

A projector on his desk throws the images of two machines on the wall behind him: one, what looked to be an over-engineered white Rick Dom, and the other a large mobile armor.

"We've designated the mobile suit "Snow White" and the mobile armor "Charming". GM squads engaged Snow White in a rubble field, and reported that it was likely using beam bits, suggesting some form of miniaturized psycommu system."

Audrey lets out a low whistle. "I had no idea they came that small."

"Neither did we," the Doctor admits. "When the GM team seemed to have incapacitated Snow White, "Charming" appeared. Its heavily armed, and surprisingly fast for its size. Your mission will be to capture Snow White and its pilot for study and interrogation, respectively, and to destroy "Charming". Your suits have been loaded onto the carrier Kyongju along with specialized capture devices, and you're scheduled to leave tonight."

Well, you can tell immediately that the others have questions, and you have a few yourself.

>What are the observed capabilities of Charming aside from speed and firepower? Should we expect I-Field defense?

>>
>>32809736
At least the Schnee Weiss has serious mobility issues due to a need to carry the bit system in a separate container. We had better move fast. They'll have solved that problem in a couple months. The Tusche Schwarz is going to roll out soon. And not long after that they'll have swapped from bits to funnels and built the Prototype Qubeley.
>>
>>32809620
“I have a few questions,” you admit.

“I expected as much. Shoot.”

“Is the Lilium's targeting system fixed? Otherwise it'd really run the risk of ruining my day.”

“Of course, I calibrated it myself. Only way to get things done around here, it seems.”

Karen seems to have anticipated your next question. “Capture devices? Like net guns or something?”

The Doctor laughs. “Oh, no. We phased those out after the RX-78[G] program.” You swear you can hear Karen mutter “good riddance”.

“You'll be using a new device called a “clay bazooka”: basically a big rocket launcher that fires a shell that releases a chemical compound which hardens on the enemy machine, immobilizing it. It's usable inside 2,500 meters or so.”

“And the bits?” you ask.

“I'd suggest the gatling cannon for that, Dominic. Against the mobile armor, I'd suggest the Ensign's big gun. A machine that size may well have an I-field.”

“Any support?” Karen asks, again anticipating your next question.

“There are three Salamis class ships in the area, with a total of six GMs and two GM-Iis.”

“Is there anything we should try not to hit, like civilian ships?”

“Axis itself is a refuge for civilians as well, so I'd avoid damaging it too severely. Bad press, lots of innocent deaths. Bad thing all around.”

"Anything we can make use of in the area, aside from the rubble? How did the first wave of GMs fare?"

"The rubble field is extensive, and unusually dense. It'd be a good place to draw Snow White into. As for the GM teams? Complete annihilation."

"Great," Catrina sighs. "That's a real reassurance."

"Charming is armed mainly with fixed beam cannons, with several that can traverse. Stay out of the line of fire of the main guns, disable the I-field, ifi t has one, and you should do fine," the Doctor assures you.

"Any other Zeon forces in the area?" you ask.

"Not that we saw, but presumably there are. They were simply unable to sortie in time. If they do manage to react this time, your GM crews will have to buy time for the task group to retreat."

Audrey, who has been pondering to herself for the whole conversation, finally decides to ask her question.

"Are you sure this will work? It took the Zeon forces months to reach Axis. By the time we get there, the situation will have changed completely."

That's when the Doctor gives you another one of his manic grins, merely pressing a button on the projector. The image of what appears to be an engine replaces your two targets on the wall.
>(2/3)
>>
>>32810183
I don't think it'll be that big an issue. We're up against a bit carrier and a mobile armor. Those are ranged-specialized machines. If we get into melee combat we're not going to have much trouble against them. Biggest issue in melee would be just getting through the sheer bulk of Charming to hit something vital. Can our beam sabers turn into beam javelins like the RX-78's can? I can never remember if that made it onto the GM or not. It would help a lot if they could.
>>
>>32810278

We have three Salamis for long range fire support. If they're the older variant they should have solid slug munitions. We can triangulate for a long range alpha strike to knock out the mobile armor if we can get close enough.
>>
>>32810278
>Biggest issue in melee would be

>>
>>32810375

Ha. Thats not going to work out too well. Minosky particles will make aiming at a moving target a bitch.

>>
>>32810424

Hence the rec for the chobham and beam-be-gone. Actually, depending on the number of beam dispersal missiles the cruisers have on hand, those three vessels could shut down the mobile armor letting us tangle with the Zeke suit.
>>
>>32810278

>>
>>32810263
"This, ladies and gentleman," the Doctor nods at you, "is the Variable Specific Impulse Magnetoplasma Rocket, or "VASIMR"."

"I've never heard of it," Audrey admits. "Is it some kind of new technology?"

"It's an electric ion rocket engine," you explain, to the surprise of everyone present. "What? I took high school physics, I know my shit."

"Mister O'Hara is correct," the Doctor continues, "this is an old design that originated before the Sides were formed. It was abandoned due to its prohibitive cost and power requirements which exceeded those of the now-common thermonuclear rockets. Ion engines also cannot be used in-atmosphere, which was another reason it fell out of favor. It was, and is, far more efficient: and with the advent of the Minovsky-Ionesco microfusion reactor which powers your mobile suits, and virtually all other human technology, it is now possible to build at a large scale."

"The Kyongju," Karen mutters. "You fitted one of those things to the Kyongju."

"Precisely. There is only one like it, though: for the cost of that engine, you could have three Salamis: the whole ships, mind you. But it's the perfect tool for your job. And as for the distance involved, Axis is an Amor II class asteroid of moderate eccentricity: it was much farther from Side 3 when Admiral Karn left for it, due to it approaching its aphelion and Side 3 being on the wrong side of the sun. You will reach it as it passes perihelion, and Earth will be at the appropriate point in its own orbit. It should take approximately seventy-three days to reach."

I can't think of anything else until we get a lay of the land so to speak. Maybe have The Good Doctor send up a query through the grapevine to have intelligence look into shell companies that may be supplying resources to the Zeke holdouts.
>>
>>32810622
Something I was thinking of was maybe introducing beam rotors seventy years early, if we can find a way to pitch it. True beam shields are not possible at the moment. We're not going to be able to block beam weapons outright. But something like that "beam confuse" trick Kamille pulled a few times should be possible. Take a round shield (if only to make sure the beam rotor covers the whole thing) and fit it with a rotating hub that holds a double-ended beam saber. It should scatter any beam shots that hit it, dispersing it over a wider area of the shield's surface and limiting penetration. Slap some beam-resistant coating on that thing too, and it should block most mobile suit beam weapons (no guarantee about mobile armors or ships, though). It could also prematurely detonate explosives, and let the shield effectively block beam sabers. You could use the inside of the shield to hold E-Caps to give it a longer active life. You'd still want to turn it on and off as needed to conserve power. And you'd probably run into some balance issues that would need to be compensated for. But if it could be made to work, it would be incredibly useful.
>>
>>32810721
I like this one. Axis has fairly good manufacturing capability, but not enough to make major advances in psycommu technology. How are they getting the resources for this?
>>
>>32810528
"Are you coming with is, Doc?"

"Sadly, no," the old man tells you. "I'm well past the age where I can go gallivanting about the solar system. Your generation will have to clean up our messes for us from here on."

For a moment you have to pause, caught off-guard by his morose tone.

"Don't worry," he added. "You'll have Miss April and the engineering team of the Kyongju to take care of things. I have full faith in them."

"Thanks, Doctor," Ensign April nods in his direction. "I appreciate the vote of confidence."

One more thing is bothering you, though. "Hey, Doc? Can I ask you a favor?"

"Certainly."

"Could you possibly look into how the Zeon holdouts are getting supplied? Maybe take a peek at any shell companies that might be contributing to their efforts?"

"Looking to do a little moonlighting?" he asks, suddenly curious. "Alright, I'll make a few discrete inquiries with my more respectable former colleagues."

With that, you're left to prepare for your imminent departure. Your baggage is loaded onto a helicopter, which takes your team to the air station at North Island, where the Kyongju is being set up with an orbital booster. Karen disappears to check in with the Kyongju's captain while you make sure your Gundams are stored for launch. To your great relief, you find that they are.

"Again with the double staterooms?" Audrey groans as you find that your team has only two rooms assigned to you.

You suddenly find yourself very much aware that your entire unit thus far consists of pretty women and one older chap with freaky glasses, and that this will probably lead to scuttlebutt spreading about your imagined "exploits" if your bunking assignments were handled thoughtlessly. So you decide to go with what you know works, and use the fact that you and the sisters have a known history of working together.

"Lieutenant Marseille, you'll be with me again. Ensign April and Sergeant Hollinger, you'll be in the other stateroom. Go and unpack your things, I'll see you all at dinner."

With two uncommon salutes, Audrey and Reiko disappear into their quarters, while you and the sisters step over the bulkhead into your own room. It's sparse, but the furniture is a step up from the usual on ships like this, and the bunks are actually long enough for you to fit.

The sisters quickly finish unpacking and stowing their belongings and clothing, before finally laying on their back on the bed.

"Any ground rules we should set out before we commit to two months in a tin can together?" Catrina asks you.

For anyone who's curious, your quarters are based on a common layout among modern naval vessels where commissioned officers are given bunks with their own storage space and a limited amount of privacy, usually two officers to a room, with two or more rooms connected either by common bathrooms or extra storage space. In this case, it's easy to imagine a converted carrier like the Nelson-class having a suite specifically for its mobile suit pilots.

Karen's room is separate, with a small wetroom and one bed, next to a two-room arrangement with washing/toilet facilities and lockers between the two rooms, with hatches between each room and the communal space. The bathroom/storage room is not accessible from the hallway.

Just a little extra detail. Probably won't be important.

Maybe they got tracked in by the space monkeys. No, seriously, that is a thing that exists in the Universal Century. Garma Zabi established a colony of super-intelligent apes and gave them mobile suits. Skull Heart is a dumb manga.
>>
>>32811633

Newtype space monkeys, get it right
>>
>>32810727
Fuck you, that's the kind of shit that killed Gundam Age Quest.

Who says we can't have both? Best friends who have a long relationship with a lot of history usually make the best couples IRL.
>>
>>32811645
Yes, that's right. I had forgotten. They weren't just super-intelligent monkeys, they were PSYCHIC super-intelligent monkeys. That had mobile suits with arms for legs that let them wield four beam rifles at once. They were defeated by distracting them with a giant inflatable banana.
>>
>>32811715

In monkey type MS-06s.

Beating an F91 and Crossbone gundam.

That chapter was... silly.

Handing over the reigns of crossbone to the artist alone was a bad choice.

"Nothing we haven't discussed already. Mind the toilet seat, lights out no later than 01:00, and no eating in bed, because the crumbs float all over the damn place. Feel free to mess with each other so long as it doesn't interfere with work."

Carya rolls towards you. "The usual rules, huh?" There's a strange note to her voice that you can't quite place, and it feels like she's considering something in her mind.

"You okay?"

"Yeah," she eventually replies. "I was just thinking about what the rest of the crew might be saying about this a few weeks from now."

"You mean about us rooming together? Probably all sorts of stuff, knowing how these things go."

Carya sighs and rolls back over onto her back. "Too bad we..." she pauses suddenly. "Nevermind. Forget it."

Well, that took a turn.

Not exactly, fighting a swarm of properly piloted Barbus is akin to fighting Alpha Azieru bits.

TTGL references were Zeon Quest mind you. Turn-A references were Age Quest.

Yeah, she wants the D.

Oh no, not that fighting those things would not have been hard.

The fact that they HAD to fight them was silly.

The premise was silly.

It was shit.

Or Catrina. There's two females up in that headspace. Sisters to boot. One could be jealous the other is monopolizes all of our time.

Who says we can't have a polygamous relationship? I mean hell that's the only way you're hooking up with one of them. It's a two for one deal. Best part is we don't have to worry about the legal system since they only see the two as one person! We still get the legal benefits AND two Newtype ladies.

No clue who you're talking about. Plus it's not really a harem or anything in this case. It's a two for one deal since it's really two people in one body. Not multiple individuals with their own separate body

With MuvLuv that's pretty much a given for happening. Had a feeling that quest would be shit though, seems like it was if your talking about it in such a tone.

Okay, so things to do...

Capture Haman
Pray she doesn't go yandere
Kill Gato/Delaz
Kill Jamitov
Kill Bask
Find out about the Jupiter Empire from Scirocco
Kill Sirocco if he tries to seduce CC
Destroy Laplace's Box
Or give it to the AEUG before Blex bites it
Retire from the military

None of these items are going to get fulfilled.

Probably. The Box certainly not.

The Sarge, April, Wonder Twins and Karen.
>>

For that, we need to somehow get out of our GM to grab a set of plans detailing what Operation Stardust is supposed to do in a dead Musai, then pray our GM doesn't blow up from a loose connection.

We should probably defect to AEUG if the Titans start using Federation forces like meatshields. Poor Lila.

I know. I'm just pointing out there's still an incredibly slim chance we could pull it off.
