This. Why bother with melee when we can pelt them with gunfire from any range, specialized to the given range, while moving around and avoiding damage? Depending on time period, claymores were either massive two-handed great swords or massive one-handed basket-hilted broadswords. But even a massive sword to a human is much smaller to an IS.
I like the idea of using our blade defensively to open up CQC foes for a shotgun blast, freeing us to establish distance and resume dakka. And with our speed, the combo's sure to be handy occasionally on offense as well.
