You have always wanted to be an emperor. That ambition has burned dimly in the past, tempered by reality. Now the opportunity to realise your ambition has arrived and you are determined not to let it slip. Now is the time to build your empire and become an emperor.

Last Thread: You are the knight, Talon York, and you are an emperor, but not the emperor… yet. Last thread you talked about foxes and started a tourney. Right now you are looking through the eyes of your elf squire as he competes in a grand melee with many other warriors.

1. I may be running a thread on the 13th at 6pm EDT. Otherwise it will be on the 18th at 6pm EDT.
2. This thread will start off with some details on the fox sub-plot then move into the tourney mini-arc.
3. There is now a Vad and Nate scene in the random scenes pastebin: http://pastebin.com/wbMTZHDr

Rolls are d20 and the best of the first three posters. I may sometimes ask for more dice to be rolled by each player, but same rules apply otherwise. Please quote the post you are voting for or rolling against. Note there are hard-to-replace points that can be used to offset failures in rolls. Please see the General Pastebin, linked through the Master Bin above, for more info and detailed dice rules.

Finally finished my bottle of Shiraz – went down well with some vintage cheddar. Not sure what I’ll hit next to keep me going.

>2.

You shot forwards, straight as an arrow but imperceptibly curved in flight. Yarras swung his axe, an expert blow that would fell you were you truly charging him head-on but you weren’t so foolish. Your heel slid in the dirt, pulling you slightly to the side of the arc of the axe swing even as your scimitar swung up to meet it. Countless sparks, bright as the sun itself were it visible beyond the clouds, flung forth from the contact. As the heat and light entered the world from the contact of your blades your remembered what Rayza had been doing earlier – any magic used directly on contact was legal.

This foe, Lord Yarras, was clearly good enough to dodge any attempts at directly striking him with magic. Surging lighting or fire throughout your blade would likely yield a defensive response, judging from what you’d glimpsed of other warriors fighting him. If you didn’t use any magic until the very moment of the strike, however… Those sparks could be the key to your victory – where you didn’t have the true strength to defeat your opponent in a direct fight you would use tactics and strategy. That was what you had been taught by both Talon and Esra – power was for naught without a mind of sufficient skill to direct it.

They had both been convinced you had a mind of sufficient skill. Time prove them right.

>Target not met

Trying for another feint attack in order to create some sparks for you surprise attack, you have a feeling you’ve mistimed it. It feels exactly like the previous attempt, however, so you ignore it. Your feet leave harsh imprints in the cracked dirt as you slam them into it with each step, further adding to your sense of rightness.

Then, right as Yarras’ axe breaks half your ribs, you realise why it felt wrong. If it felt exactly like the previous attempt… that meant you’d timed it the same way and he knew when and where you would move.

For a moment it feels like your life has fled you, blood bursting from your chest, chasing the axe that freed it from its prison within your body. Then your magic kicks in an everything is better.

Should be better.

Must be better.

But it’s not. Searing pain courses along your chest where your magic meets the magic that the axe left in your body. You’ve felt the pain of magical curses before but this… this is so much worse. Like a poison that turns the magic that should be saving you into death itself. You want to stop the pain so badly but you can’t – your tattoos sense the damage and the fact your healing isn’t working and continue to channel more magic into the wound.

The pain grows worse, instant by instant. You haven’t even hit the ground, knocking back by the sheer power and momentum of Yarras’ attack. Surely you’ll be dead before you hit it? Having disappointed Sir Talon. Having never becoming anything of note.

Having never proved that Esra was wrong. That being Daerfir didn’t doom you to a life of cruel and painful servitude.

I love writing this over-the-top stuff.

>Exceptional success

Fuck that.

You were Tarfinn. The second elf to be chosen for the path of exception, just like Esra. The next great Daerfir warrior, just like Esra.

The squire of Imperator Talon York, not like Esra at all.

You would disappoint no one. This wasn’t about you but your master. The man who had decided that you had value. That you could be something great. Even Esra had dismissed your idea of being something great but Talon…

Talon had approved. He felt you could be somebody that mattered. A man of power. Of triumph. That you would overcome adversity. Overcome the dangers of these accursed tattoos your kin had given you while using their power to an extent they hardly recognised possible.

You would repay that approval. Right here. Right now.

A harsh, guttural scream escaped what was left of your lungs, bereft of healing, as you desperately pushed your muscles to bring you back into a roll. You would stand up, face your opponent, and fell him like a tree.

Smoke rises along dirt as you crash into the ground. Black smoke, the very colour of death, haunts your vision as you rise to your feet. Your breathing clears even as the smoke remains. The world is quiet as you stand and raise your scimitar. The pain flees in the face of your will. Next you’ll use that will to crush your foe. You’ll prove why you’re Talon’s squire.

Then you blink. Blame flames lick up from your chest, visible to your eyes but causing you no pain. The smoke, like the haze from a dream, drifts into nothingness as your body restores its power. The magic that Yarras’ axe implanted into your body returns to the world as if it were never there. As though it had never cleft your chest open, causing you some of the worst pain in your life. The flames licked at the air around your chest, slowly puffing out as their magical oxygen burnt into nothingness.

“Impossible,” comes Yarras’ deep voice, his shock apparent despite the artificial tones of his helmet’s magical projection.

“I am the squire of Imperator Talon York,” you bellow. “Nothing is impossible for me.”

The world explodes into sound. Cheering and screams echo around you as if in rhythm with your mind. Now is no time for your imagination to run wild, however. You have an almighty foe to fell.

And fall he does. You see through his technique. You dodge his axe. You don’t even use the sparks, you simply will your lightning to life along your blade as you charge him. As your sword scrapes along his, you push him back with sheer magical power and unleash your power into his chest.

Unlike you, he does not stand up. He doesn’t have true power backing him, you feel.

You survey the battlefield, standing tall. There’s not much left.

Vad is gravely injured, blood staining his robes where Moonblade has obviously cut him. The two don’t appear to have ever used their true power. Yet it is Rayza that focuses on you. Her eyes catch yours, a feral look within them that makes you think of Lynn when she’s upset of a morning. Her sword glows with magic, barely restrained with her will.

You gulp. All of your confidence flees you in an instant as you see her. She’s well beyond you. You could never hope to defeat her, you feel.

Yet a part of you feels you must try.

You stand your ground even as the infamous spellblade closes on you, step by agonisingly slow step. Your master faced her and won once. It is your duty to face her in his stead, even if you will surely lose. Standing tall you try to meet her gaze with a similarly intimidating one. You don’t think it’s working.

You also don’t think that she’s trying to intimidate you. Her gaze is a little too… heated to seem intimidating. If anything it seems to be bringing a rise in a very different part of your part.

Before you’re able to think too much on that you find her mere feet in front of you. It’s poor range for her, judging from her earlier method of attack. Good range for your martial talents, however. If only you didn’t feel she’d snap you like a twig if you tried her in a contest of strength. You raise your scimitar towards her but she doesn’t move, even as you draw blood form her neck when your blade quivers and cuts into her.

Instead she grins at you toothily before speaking, blood running down her neck with each syllable, “I sincerely thought my prize was after this but you… well, I guess a man like Talon York doesn’t take on a squire who is incompetent. I look forward to this, Tarfinn.”

Then she leaps backwards faster than you can catch. You know instinctively that she’ll be on you in a second. All you have to counter her are your instincts and glimpses of her earlier attacks. You hope it will be enough.

There is a pleasant consolation prize for Finn for having the balls to face her.

>Target not met

Your scimitar lashes out at the blur of movement you catch to your right. A pink blast of magical energy, powerful enough to sear your skin without any direct contact, snaps off her sword as it barely misses your left arm. You don’t even have the time to gulp in fear at the sheer amount of power being used against you before Rayza attempts to put her hand through your heart. Your hand snaps up to intercept hers, knocking it aside at the cost of breaking most of the bones in it.

You don’t even have the time to wince before she’s on you again and it’s only your healing power that saves you. You desperately deflect killing blow after killing blow, taking countless wounds that would cripple or kill a lesser man.

You take a small measure of pride in the fact that you’re still standing after even several seconds of her attacks. Every other person who fought her had been blown away in an instant. It felt like when you managed to land an accurate, if futile, blow against you master in training. He always shrugged them off but the fact you could do it at all menat a great deal.

And here it meant a great deal that not only you had the courage to face a foe so terrifyingly powerful but hadn’t collapsed in a screaming heap from the sheer amount of pain and agony running through your body as it ran into overdrive, desperately trying to keep your body running.

All good things must come to an end, however. Eventually your foe tires of mere cuts and drives you into the ground, straddling you tightly with her powerful legs holding your arms and blade against your body. She could crush you in a second from this position and you know you’ve lost.

It doesn’t feel like it, though.

Not when you’ve got hot, searing pleasure running through your head from a deep kiss. Your mind goes blank and you let your instincts run wild and respond to her. It’s a battle of tongues for several seconds before she lets you go, giving you a wild grin.

“You’re a good prize, Tarfinn,” she says breathily. “Do make yourself available after the match for me, will you?”

Then she stands and looks about the battlefield. You’re still fighting fit, thanks to your regenerative powers, but you know better than to stand up. Looking around, the only person left standing is Moonblade, standing above the kneeling Vad who has clearly surrendered. She stabs her blade into the ground and raises her hands in surrender. Rayza pouts, looking back at you.

“At least you gave me some fun,” she says before raising her sword.

Victory is hers, it seems. You wonder how Caitlyn might fare against her.

You also idly wonder how the two would look together…

Talon's point of view would have been dicerolls only for the fights (where I choose Finn's priorities) with some banter with the other rulers. You'll still catch some of the reactions to the ending from the rulers, of course.

So yeah, things ended up differently than otherwise (most likely). You missed a chance as Talon to talk about the fighters and such but instead pushed Finn's character development a bit further.

>>33353194
As I said at the start, nothing important... except the Rayza thing probably wouldn't have happened. Mind you, that's not super important but it is a change from what likely would ahve happened otherwise.

A slightly different form of anti-regen weaponry that actually tries to prevent healing. It consumes magic and burns it off into aether. It prevents healing and empowerment normally but also stopped Finn's special regen as it burnt off the magic the instant he tried to use it, drawing on enormous reserves of energy as his tattoos kept trying to regen him.

>>33353248
A shot at getting a new ability. He couldn't actually win - Rayza is just too strong compared to him. She took her pre-quest loss against Talon rather personally. That DC20 was the true odds of a lower target success in a real fight, the lower one offered was the odds of not getting knocked out immediately.

And no, I'm not confirming she's a dragon.

Finally, as a message to all players reading this quest:

AEQ has been running for almost seven months now, it has had 37 sessions (plus a couple half-sessions the day after the regular one) and 58 threads in total. I don't know the word count but it's likely between 250k and 300k words (or more, this thread alone was about 13k words of content plus the Q&A answers with the foxes). I'm not even going to attempt to add up the number of hours. That's a lot, at least to me.

So ab ig thank you to all players and readers and I look forward to running for even longer.

Thanks for having us. Couple of questions:
1. Was that spear lady one of Neirs sisters? And if so, can we see Fin's reaction when he realizes what he did? Because that would be funny
2. Are any vampires contesting any of these events? I'm not sure if we banned them from participating in the grandmaster tourney for example. I don't think even any Volente trained could realistically hope to stop Lyn or Rayza, but one or two of them might make it to the quarter finals.
3. Do you plan on doing any other POV shifts with other characters? Playing a mage like Sarah or Mal would be fun.
4. how many tails does this Torin fellow have? I am willing to bet that a substantial fraction of Gold clan is less than delighted with their current situation. What with the massive casualties of the betrayal, the less than perfect outcome, Torin presumably sending other people out to die rather than facing Ren in battle himself. Of course any gold clan dissidents are basically screwed, since if they try to leave everyone will start shooting at them.

Hello again.

I'll be answering questions and doing the book infodump over the next hour or so as I eat breakfast and go about my morning ritual (no, not that ritual).

On a quick note, does anybody (including the possible original poster) know what >>33350050 meant with:
>Wait...so is Ren reverse aging or the premature tail manifestations just stunted his physical growth?
>>
>>33353495
Thanks for running Aspie, this quest is one of my favorites of all time and one of the few I actually don't lurk in.
>>
>>33363589

I personally have no idea. That Anon was talking gibberish most of the night if I remember correctly.

Anyway. So with Foxes, how common is inter-species relationships? We've seen it glossed over with bigger characters and no one seems to mind it much but is there any sort of taboo with it on the larger common scale? Would Vad/Nate being viewed as a bit strange? And given the Foxes lacking population now, would they perhaps be more inclined towards same species relationships for the good of the race?
>>
>>33363589

I think he was just drunk.
>>
>>33363589
Remind me how long has the foxes been active on the Continent? Also just in general how impressed was the two rulers with Finn after that fight?

>Wait...so is Ren reverse aging or the premature tail manifestations just stunted his physical growth?

He is probably talking about how fast his tails grew may have screwed up how fast he grew. Not sure why but that's pretty much what I think he meant there.
>>
>>33363589

Random small question, what are the names of all of the Mage's Towers under our rule and their locations as well. I didn't see it mentioned anywhere in the Bins other than the obvious ones in Harrowmont, Vitria, and Port Temby.
>>
>>33363714

>Anyway. So with Foxes, how common is inter-species relationships?
They happened in Pharos though they have the stereotypical prejudices of assumptions about interbreeding with other species causing the child fox(es) to have less tails than otherwise.

As Karise indicated it's more acceptable for a female fox to have a relationship with a non-fox male than the other way around. This is because pregnancy and birth actually differs between the races and a non-fox female would need to be assisted through the pregnancy by foxes.

>>33363819
>Remind me how long has the foxes been active on the Continent?
A few centuries at least. The SSA only started paying any attention to Pharos within the last century or so, however.

>Also just in general how impressed was the two rulers with Finn after that fight?
Everybody was pretty impressed.

>He is probably talking about how fast his tails grew may have screwed up how fast he grew.
Ah. I suppose I didn't explain that part too clearly.

Basically, foxes gain their tails at varying rates depending on their power. The average times for getting extra tails aren't exactly average given less than 20% of foxes get a sixth tail. Karise got most all of her tails earlier than normal and is lined up for a seventh tail within a century or two. Tsucchi and Ren got theirs very early because they're extremely powerful.

>>33363987
I may be forgetting but I thought that was only if you actually allied with her.

>>
>>33364196
Yeah pretty much. On the other hand it may not really be worth it. We have plenty of foxes+magic so there wouldn't really be a threat.

Right now I'm hoping we get Termina at least before doing that though. So far I'm thinking something like one more POP to Undine then One to Talon.

That way we can get a level 3 Undine and more landmass before doing that.

I could be wrong but I honestly don't think absorbing Termina will be that difficult.

If we peacefully absorb Farun, then we can use their military + our elites and heroes to sandwich Termina and force them to surrender. Taira alone could probably change the balance of the war.

>>33364186
It's actually 6 mage towers (that area is out of date) plus 6 more in Taour (not in use right now) and 7 damaged/unoccupied ones in Darlesia.

The only named ones so far are the Tower of Harrowmont (in Harrowmont), the Tower of Temby (in Port Temby), the Tower of Kassick (the summoner tower of Vitria) and Pax Vitria (the largest mage tower in Vitria).

>>33361336
>1. Was that spear lady one of Neirs sisters?
Maybe. I'm undecided.
>2. Are any vampires contesting any of these events?
They're currently all contained to internment camps so no.
>3. Do you plan on doing any other POV shifts with other characters?
I never really planned on doing any PoV shifts so it's doubtful. Finn works, I feel, because his thought patterns are different and he is a suitable stand-in when Talon isn't doing much.
>4. how many tails does this Torin fellow have?
Well, the current head of the Gold Clan may have changed in the last couple of decades... Either way, 7 tails would be pretty normal for a clan leader to have. In the SSA, only the Garrotte and Lotus clan heads have less than 7. Having the largest number of tails is usually a way of guaranteeing you will be the clan head.

>>33354508

>>
>>33364456

Termina is actually kind of funny like that, it looks super easy on paper but each province has its own kinks.

>Farun
Royal bloodline, the decision we make regarding it and our own potential one(can't wait for that shitstorm) will change the opinions of people for better or worse.

>Compagnon
If we absorb them they can potentially hurt Vitria that is still trying to recover and become the new trading hub of the empire unchecked and unbalanced. If we conquer, then we lose much of the benefits of the already established strong economy.

>Termina
Eh some dude in a castle, we'll probably fight him and smack him around a bit. I'm unsure of his angle and what issues he may present, though I'm sure there is something.
>>
>>33364456
It won't be very difficult I think. Though I'm mainly waiting for when Shropham and Albanon rebel. Mainly because if we can get Termina landmass fast enough then we will have a straight shot though. Which helps us build up troops. We also have Taira now which helps a lot with being outnumbered if the war breaks out too soon.

My main worry is that the mage guards will load the place with spies because they know we will take it.
>>
>>33364483
>They're currently all contained to internment camps so no.
Huh, I remember some vague reference to us keeping a few around who would be useful to us.
>I never really planned on doing any PoV shifts so it's doubtful. Finn works, I feel, because his thought patterns are different and he is a suitable stand-in when Talon isn't doing much.
True. On the other hand Sarah or Mal presumably have different thought patterns. (Sarah was noble raised for example) Also, playing a mage would be an interesting experience.

BOOK INFODUMP
The book is 'The World of Elementals' by Grant North. It appears to have been first written towards the end of the Golden Age of Magic.

>1. ‘On The Birth of Elementals’
Contains brief details on how elementals are created. Most of them are simply born from large agglomerations of mana, such as spirit traps and the like. When enough mana coalesces in one place it will create a being that can then be inhabited with a 'familiar soul' - there's not much detail on what that is in this chapter. Essentially it seems that non-pure elementals start small and eventually grow to become much more powerful. That presumably means that Bartom is quite old.

There's a brief note about how pure elementals are different in that they are not created randomly.

>2. ‘What is Purity?”
A chapter dedicated to pure elementals. It talks a little about the concept of sisters and binding, which you already know of.

More interestingly, it talks about the way that pure elementals change as they age. The author surmises (as in, he doesn't know for certain) that their bodies will change to represent their master's race. He also believes that pure elementals, knowingly or unknowingly, change their thought patterns and behaviours to compliment their master's (thoguh this is different to agreeing with them all the time).

Ultimately, the author believes that pure elementals are ready-made familiars, hence the fact they cannot move about freely without a master and actively model themselves to their master. He refers to several other books as to why this might be so but makes no inference himself.

>>33364770
>3. ‘The Origin of All Familiars’
A chapter that mostly talks about souls. Apparently there is a specific type of soul that goes into magical beings such as elementals and other lesser magical creatures. The author states that more poewrful magical beings such as elves and dragons also possess these souls, if slightly different in design. There is a lot of reference to soul theory that simply goes straight over your head.

What is clear is that the author believes this soul holds a special connection to a 'local magic plane' and any being with it can be bound as a familiar and gain all the benefits and drawbacks of such. The other thing that is clear is that much of his research appears to be from an association with a 'Darus', who may be one or more women from the inconsistent way he refers to them.

Presumably Alyce may have used some knowledge from this book to bind Merce. For all you know, Taren may have used some of it with Gnome.
>>
>>33364630
>Royal bloodline

Honestly there I don't think Talon will really give a crap. The archmage will get annoyed but I think we can pretty easily get her since in general she needs us to help out.

>>33364483
>They're currently all contained to internment camps so no.

You know thinking on it. The vampires and the foxes kind of do play at each others strengths. The foxes start out pretty weak then get stronger as time goes by until they either die or get pretty damn strong.

Vampires start out pretty strong just due to the strength boost of being changed to start with and don't have nearly as many issues with reproduction because they just take a normal human and make it one of them. Skipping the entire reproductive process.
>>
>>33364770
>He also believes that pure elementals, knowingly or unknowingly, change their thought patterns and behaviours to compliment their master's (thoguh this is different to agreeing with them all the time).

Now that is interesting.
>>
>>33364630

Compagnon is the most interesting one out of the three to me.

I think it's inevitable that we'll hurt Vitria if we absorb Compagnon. But frankly, that might be worthwhile if we can get another lively economic hub under our belt.

I'm hoping the inevitable trade routes with Magi League and trade/construction of the devastated parts of the empire will keep Vitria in a reasonably strong position.

We don't have all the facts, but I'm reluctant to go with the conquest route. Pissing off an economically powerful entity and then destroying its viability just seems counterproductive.
>>
>>33364483
>Maybe. I'm undecided.
Honestly, seeing Finn's babbling appologies because OH MY GOD I HIT ONE OF SIR TALON'S WOMEN I'M GONNA DIE. Would be funny. Especially when Talon pats him on the head and says everything is alright
>>
>>33364848
>Honestly there I don't think Talon will really give a crap. The archmage will get annoyed but I think we can pretty easily get her since in general she needs us to help out.

Actually thus far in regards to nobility and "blood lines" Talon doesn't seem to be too keen on it. There's never been much of a reference to desiring to become a noble in character and has actively worked against them in some cases. That whole decision is sort of going to become a character direction.

Also it's not so much Talon caring, of course he doesn't. But everyone else around him. Alyce does /need/ Talon for something but I also fully expect she has a contingency plan if something happens.
>>
>>33364915
>I think it's inevitable that we'll hurt Vitria if we absorb Compagnon. But frankly, that might be worthwhile if we can get another lively economic hub under our belt.

I don't know about that. Vitrian nobles aren't exactly pleased with Talon still, and then suddenly we pick up a stronger economy that isn't checked properly? They might revolt, we might lose support. It's a fine line we have to walk.

Though I agree conquest is not the answer.
>>
>>33364983
From what I can tell, he doesn't like Idiots. The competent nobles he seems to like and respect, the incompetent ones he scorns.
>>
>>33364983

He doesn't seem too keen on it, but he may agree for pragmatic reasons.

As far as I can tell, Talon's approach to governing is pragmatism rather than strict adherence to ideology.

I would prefer to have the King of Farun take the position of Lord Governor though and take away some of the governing power in exchange for guarantee of peace and prosperity for his family.

I just don't like the idea of having a King under an Imperator.
>>
>>33364770
>He also believes that pure elementals, knowingly or unknowingly, change their thought patterns and behaviours to compliment their master's

Huh. So have we seen that much with Mal and Sala? or Gnome and Talon(though I'm still not sure how that works out)?

It's interesting that they can change how they look as well. Could it be safely assumed if say Undine was with the Elves since her "birth" she'd be more Elf like in appearance?
>>
>>33364983
I mean more I don't think Talon would care if he had a small royal line under him. He mainly dislikes nobles when they are taking his powers away.

If they aren't an issue there I don't see him really care all that much about if they are nobles or not. On the other hand I can't see him create a line or anything because in general he doesn't ever expect to die to need one and if he does he would probably have a successor set up already.
>>
>>33365046

I agree that it's a fine line, but I think it should be a carrot and stick approach.

Give certain concessions to the nobles of Vitria including lucrative contacts in exchange for Compagnon being absorbed.

Keep most of them happy, but also use our intelligence network to identify dissent and any hint of rebellion and crush it.

I think the nobles will be a recurring problem as our empire grows bigger and more trade centers are absorbed.
>>
>>33365188
It's honestly not all that hard too. Compagnon is mainly in the upper areas and Vitria is in the lower. So it's not like it's hard to stick some economic incentives that and can always just let them trade it out. Vitria is also next to our seat of power too so that helps.

Not a good idea. In general they economic effects of trying that on such a large landmass doesn't make it worth it. The key thing is to make incentives so most go the way we need and those that don't still help.

It wasn't really like that. It was just something that had caused a lot of arguments and I didn't want continuing forever. The real issue I had with it was that if people made a certain decision too early they might get upset as certain other things happen.

>Anything in particular surprise you lately? Something you thought we did that was incredibly stupid? or clever?
Nothing in particular comes to mind. I have had to put more work into the fox side of thing earlier than expected. Fleshing out my notes and all that - I never really planned an assimilation into your empire so I'm winging it a bit.

>>33365768
There were a few. None of them did that great. The same can be said of any TYE participants aside from Finn and Vad - massively outclassed by a handful of elite combatants. Almost none of them would have had more than Strength 2 and Weaponry 1 whereas even Finn was toting Strength 4 (with empowerment) and was fighting with his magic stat half the time anyway.

To be fair you from the very beginning always wrote the fluffytails like they were the best thing ever, and rightfully so. I sort of assumed that the course this took was destined especially with the addition of other Foxes and how great they are as characters.

I don't know if anyone would have been for the idea of setting up the Foxes like the Mage Guard though if the option was given.

Figured as such. I thought that maybe Termina had a few knights who were vets of the Termina/Darlesia war who would be surprisingly dangerous, but anyone who stuck with Termina after that probably isn't the type to showboat at tournaments.

I like fluffy tails, what can I say... Probably a slight case of bias like with Gnome. I didn't actually intend on you guys getting deeply involved in fox politics until you started fighting with the MG. You were just supposed to have Vad for help and Taira for moral support. Tsucchi got added in at some point I forget.

>I don't know if anyone would have been for the idea of setting up the Foxes like the Mage Guard though if the option was given.
There'll be downsides to having them roam freely.

>>33365982
>Does that include the other earth elementals we had helping out? I'm not sure if you ever accounted for them.
I don't remember. I had 12 months with Bartom and less 6 months from the extra resource effort. I'll double-check at some point whether that extra effort was meant to include extra mage resources (if any).
>>

I think Tssuichi was right after Darlesia was captured.

That said I can't quite remember when the whole idea of offering to let them come into TYE came up and if it was by your prompting or ours.

>There'll be downsides to having them roam freely.
I figured as much. Though I'm curious if you'd elaborate a little on it right now.
>>
>>33366086
I think it was probably a mix of noticing that fluffy tails seem useful. So Talon kind of jumped on the idea of it. Then Vad called up Tsucchi for the vampires. Which gave a direct perfect link to get the fluffy tails on our side.
>>
>>33366086
>There'll be downsides to having them roam freely.
If its a public relations standpoint we can just mention that they have experience in dealing with creatures like vampires (which is true), are basically immune to thralldom (also true), and can detect vampires, and possibly thralls, at long distance (still true).

I wonder why we're letting them roam the countryside at near random?

Freedom of movement is a fundamental liberty, you can't deprive an entire people of that unless you want them to be second-class citizens.

I was being rhetorical. I meant we basically position them as an obvious check on vampires.

A bit of both. You guys prompted about the fox alliance and I worked that in and it just kept going.

Sorry, I meant I forget why I decided to add her in like I did. I hadn't planned for her to become involved until much later.

>I figured as much. Though I'm curious if you'd elaborate a little on it right now.
Pharos won't like that so they'll take action against you. The MG might get a bit annoyed (or parts of them, as indicated by Harry). It leaves a relatively useful asset more open.

Talon wants their powers for use. You typically don't get good will by making it impossible to leave.

Magna Carta actually.

So how close is Pharos? What would you do if we got it in our head we just want to rough them up a bit?

Everybody would tell you that you're nuts. I mean, it's possible to go there but the entire continent is ruled by a single great empire. They're not exactly pushovers even if they are a little self-absorbed.

>Oh also, ever considered making a world map?

>>33366671
Assuming Talon is a normal human with extra power he'd be excluded, just as mages are (and the Lords were assumed to be). If he's not then it gets murkier.
>>
>>33366671
That reminds me. After reading the seen with Raphael I was reminded of something so I went back and read the quest again to see what.

The knight that sometimes talks to Talon when he is busy flipping out for some reason reminds me of the archangel.
>>
>>33366755

>entire continent is ruled by a single great empire.

Welp if Talon pulls off taking over his own I see the next target in sight.
>>
>>33366755
Speaking of Pharos, we need to start building up a navy.
Also, can we look into upgrading our 413 Veteran MAAs with MMK plate? Did we even bother to loot the Taouran plate?
>>
>>33366755
>I mean, it's possible to go there but the entire continent is ruled by a single great empire.

So you seem to know that we intend to completely rule the continent and defeat the monsters beyond the Last Retreat, and basically beat all of your "End Game" accomplishments. If we did all of that would you be interested in continuing the story with us invading Pharos, or any other land? Is there any other land?

>Maybe one day...
I think that's one of the bigger reasons I wanted Evil Overlord sidequest to happen. Different little land to enjoy. Not to say there isn't a ton of cool things to see on our continent still, but you know what I mean
>>
>>33366844

I think it would be nice to build up a merchant marine fleet for shipping and escorts.

It would be useful for more reasons than war at least.
>>
>>33366844
We can build our own custom now so we probably won't use any looted ones. Unless we are desperate.
>>
>>33366863
>defeat the monsters beyond the Last Retreat,

Honestly given how the archangel doesn't seem to think he can push forwards that seems harder then taking Pharos. Though it does make me wonder if Raphael like chills out with the empresses of Pharos sometimes.
>>
>>33366876
We have 5500 Men at Arms.
The difference in power between MaA and MMK is something like five to one.
>>
>>33366876
One MMK is worth 5 Men at Arms.
Just over two-thirds of our melee troops are Men at Arms.
>>

There was a decision a few threads back where we decided how to outfit our current army with our new production in the Foundaries.

I don't know if Aspirational has updated those numbers yet. And it was a few months out anyway.
>>
>>33366980
Yeah. You kind of want an organized standard though. So as we build more mage plate the more the looted ones will be faded out.

Also I was thinking about something. I remember someone mentioned HMK vampires. But I'm honestly more wondering what LMK ones would be like. Heavy armored ones can already run like crazy.

I was honestly kind of annoyed we didn't go for max recruitment I think. We going to need all the men we can get with the magi league starts to fracture.
>>
>>33367051

Taira is a lifesaver with that. Just need to hope we have a year or so before this shit goes down.
>>
>>33367103
>year or so before this shit goes down

I believe that was the exact table time we were given in fact. And Termina Shouldn't be an overtly large campaign depending upon how we do it.
>>
>>33367058
>Pharos and a number of other big events would happen well before you went north of the Barrier.

That sounds like a challenge.
>>
>>33367058
Hey, how do the grandmasters of the Black Stone knights and the Golden Bears stack up against like Felix. I admit I never got a clear sense of how they compared
>>
>>33367130
Though I'm honestly kind of worried about the RSK in a way. We know in general how the league will fracture. We have no idea how the RSK is doing.

And the most ideal advancement is going up towards the mage guard and the last retreat. Just because we can take Shropham and Albanon and the mage guards for a nice chunk of land.

The issue is of course that puts us right next to the lord of ember and we can't get to Blacktaffe and the other rebel factions that easily. So Malataine or the lords will probably gain some land.

Meanwhile the RSK is right next to our flank so we would need to think about them attacking. Depending on how that rebellion there works out.
>>
>>33367326

I don't think the RSK is in a great position either with the large rebellion.

Plus >>33365999 indicates potential for a succession crisis and schisms.
>>
>>33367355
Yeah but we kind of don't really know much about their movements there and it's harder to advance down then up. So in general if they do attack it becomes harder.

>>
>>33367427

That really wasn't my point, it's still a matter of perspective. Especially on a, for all intents and purposes, flat surface. What's North or South but meaningless man made constructs?

That the hostilities are unnecessary.
>>
>>33367453
>Different terrain
>Different people

>>
>>33367465

>>
>>33367453
South is RSK in it's full power. North is the weaker mage guard, A fracturing nation that the leader won't stop us from invading the rebels and a weaker independent nation.

It also moves us closer to the archangel. Going down is harder in general because there isn't as much small nations to play.
>>
>>33367509

I wouldn't say RSK is in full power, but going down South is certainly much more difficult.
>>
>>33367487
And? Even if we change our way of thinking so that South becomes Florple and North becomes Guponk, it's still easier to go Guponk than Florple. Nothing changes except we look ridiculous. I don't know what you're even trying to argue here. If you're going for some deep philosophical shit you ain't on the right site.
>>
>>33367326
Yeah, we should probably look into fortifying the gap in the impassable terrain between Harrowmont and Mier.
>>
>>33367508
Any.
>>
>>33367649
What, even Paolini?
>>
>>33367553
It's also possible to just go though Olmm.
>>
>>33367665
Especially Paolini. He at least is funny even if he doesn't mean to be sometimes.
>>
>>33367670
That's slightly longer and necessitates going through the fort and fortified town in Olmm.
We could also concievably fortify between the unpassable terrain in Mier and the Marnn mountain range to defend from an attack from Olmm.
>>
>>33367553

Well... We can build a wall like the one in Crece.

I kind of enjoy how the terrain up to Harrowmont is damn death trap given the right conditions. Nothing kills an armies morale like slogging through thigh high mud and fog just to fight a battle.
>>
>>33367715
Honestly I"m more worried about going up then needing to bring our troops back down to guard in the case a war does break out. Just because in such a case we have the lord of ember to look out for as well.
>>
>>33367698
>>33367649

Literally the shittiest of tastes.
>>
>>33367715
Honestly, we need to turn Harrowmont into a cross between Minas Tirith and Erebor, a mix of concentric wall rings and fortress built into the cliffs themselves.
>>
>>33367767
I'm going to be glad when we finally get 2 POPs stuck on Talon. It should help with making the place nigh impregnable by normal forces.
>>
>>33367763

Well Crece's wall is perpetually guarded, wouldn't be farfeteched to assume we could do the same with a new one.
>>
>>33367813
Eh, speaking of, when we do get the PoPs bound, I suggest using them to make normal construction go quicker and then changing the colour/texture/toughness of the walls to make it an impenetrable golden citadel rather than doing it all via godhax.
That way if we're ever depowered we'd still have a functioning fortress rather than it spontaneously suffering critical existence failure.
>>
>>33367888
Kind of depends on how it works too. We really don't know what happens in that case because we know we can take things out of it via some method.
>>
>>33367940
I'd rather play it safe than possibly end up like movie Sauron.
>>
>>33368004
We should probably see what we can do when we finally do it. If we can pull some space shenanigans then things might get interesting depending on if it vanishes or if it does something else.

It's actually more that you need to throw him into dangerous situations where he can actually contribute. If he hangs around Talon rather than fighting slightly weaker foes he'll never improve normally. Pushing regular humans to spellblade levels takes years of practice and experience.
