You are Sireyi Valyenya, 18 years old, you are on your first quest.

You have retrieved the Horn of Alzurad: a legendary artefact that can call dead heroes back to fight for the holder of the Horn. But now you’re lost on another plane, trying to find your way home.

You are walking in to a castle on an island guarded by a magical storm. Ahead of you is the strongest evil you've ever felt.
>>
You walk into the castle under armed guard, ahead you can feel an impossibly strong evil, a demon lord. You came here to meet a princess but you wonder what you’ve gotten yourself in for.

You continue into the castle, drawing closer all the time to the great evil you can sense. You walk down a long corridor with your guards. You can also see guards stationed everywhere you go. Seems they really do take security seriously here.

You walk towards a large set of double doors, every step taking you closer to that malevolent presence.

The old man opens the doors and you are led inside to a large open hall, doors in all four walls. In the middle of the hall is a huge column of fire, a cone of dancing flames reaching all the way to the ceiling. You feel no heat from it though. The evil you can sense is coming from it.

Unconcerned by the fire of blasphemy the old man and your guards escort you past the flame towards a door on the opposite side of the hall you came from. You turn your head to stare at the flames as you pass, wondering if it’s going to attack you. The old man notices you watching.

“Ah the Heartfire” he says “The wonder of the Island, no doubt you’ve heard of it?”

>I’ve never heard of it
>Of course, yes, who hasn’t?
>Why is it pure evil?
>Why is there no heat?
>What does it do?
>I’m leaving (flee)
>Other
>>
>>33443749
This was the path where we might release a terrible evil, right? Is it possible to permanently destroy demonlords?
>>
>>33443768
>I’ve never heard of it
>Why is it pure evil?
>Why is there no heat?
>What does it do?

>>33443778
This is a path that had trap options and told us we would be forced into a binary choice between letting a great evil go free or killing an innocent.
>>
>>33443768
>"I've not, but I can feel the demonlord inside. I really hope that prison holds.
>>
>>33443768
>I’ve never heard of it
>Why is it pure evil?
>Why is there no heat?
>What does it do?
On the subject of a binary choice. I frankly think killing one innocent to in this situation makes perfect sense. Releasing a Demon lord is guaranteed to lead to the murder of possibly COUNTLESS other innocents. Its the classic Trolley problem, its certainly not an easy choice but killing the one is the choice I'd make. Especially if I don't have any special attachment to the one. If I do... well the rest can fuck off.
>>
Here's hoping the decision will only be required if we take this path to break the barrier. We could still use this place to do good an increase our power and allies, but not (fully) rely on it to escape the plane.
>>
>>33443792

I'm not sure what's worse, being shoehorned into binary choices or giving up on alternate resolutions in advance.
>>
Willpower should be 19, not 18
Arcane Energy should be 34 total, 14 base (assuming the energy we'd have w/o angel magic is 14 and not 4)
Divine Energy should be 26 total, 13 base

>>33443827
Hopefully, the fact that the prediction was made assuming we left for the Island immediately after hearing it but that we instead went for The Blood of Dragons will result in fate taking a different turn.
Even if it didn't we should still at least *try* and defy fate so that the demon lord stays captive and no innocent dies.

Absolute worst case scenario, we are denied a write-in option at the very end and forced to make a binary choice in the same manner as when choosing whether to accept our new familiar.
In that case, and that case alone, I would vote for the good of the many in such a manner.

>>33443896
Who the *fuck* said I was giving up on alternative options?
Preparing for the worst possibility doesn't mean I've given up on trying to save everyone.
>>
“I’ve never heard of it” you say honestly

“The Heartfire is the centre of the castle, and the island” says the old man “Whilst it burns, no invader can take the castle.”

“There’s no heat” you say “Not from here, no” he says “But if you touched it...well...the Heartfire destroys all things.

“Why is it pure evil?” you ask, the whole procession stops for a moment as the old man comes to a halt, looking at you with a searching gaze for a long time before replying “Because the Third Duke, The Sorcerer, whose name I’ll not poison my lips by speaking, lies trapped within.” He looks away “The Heartfire destroys everything...or so we thought.” You continue onwards.

“What does it do?” you ask, he simply shakes his head “Too much, too little.”

You are led from that hall down another corridor and into a smaller hall, with a raised platform and a throne. You cannot see who’s sat on the throne as there is a crowd of well-dressed men and women crowded around it arguing. Something about duty and failing to live up to it and following your elders advice.

The old man with you coughs loudly, the argument continues “Ha-Hem!” he almost shouts. Nobody seems to notice.

“Oh for the love of-” He says, then mutters something and brings his hands together quickly.

Thunder crashes and a bright light flashes, forcing everyone to cover their ears and shut their eyes. Except for you, thunder and lightning flashes really don’t phase you anymore.
Everyone on the platform turns to look at the old man.

One old gentleman with a flushed face and a large nose with broken veins in it says “Really Master Hafness, trying to intimidate us with cheap tricks, wizard though you may be, the real power here lies with the Regency Council and furthermore-”

“We have a visitor to our island whom the Princess needs to see” says the old man at your side. “You can continue your discussion later Lord Maxberry.”
>>
>>33443915
Thanks for spotting, will fix when I have a moment.

“That can wait!” insists the man with the drunkards nose “Important matters of state are being discussed here.”

“They really aren’t” counters a young female voice from within the throng “it’s just your usual attempt to bully me into a marriage that I cannot agree to.”

Voices raise around the throne, imploring the speaker to ‘think of her people’ and ‘this is what’s right for the kingdom’ and ‘Lord Ninver isn’t so bad, really’.

“Leave me” commands the unseen girl “I will see the visitor now.”

“Your highness”, “But your highness”, “really child you must listen” the protests begin.

“I said leave!” She insists. Roll Willpower 1d20+4

Surprisingly, they leave without any further fuss, walking down from the platform and out a side entrance.

Oh, apparently it's containing a hyper-asshole duke who was empowered by a demon lord.
That's so much better than them using a live demon lord as an arcane battery, that never works out well.

Did she just use the Voice of the Dragon spell?
That might provoke a willpower check to identify it.

Well, that demon lord is pretty rude, not giving Siyeri the chance to get dressed before their final battle.
We probably will fight a demon lord, given that this dimension is currently ruled by one and we need to kill or severely weaken him if we want the barrier to stay down forever.
He's just the big bad for the moment, not the boss of one of the side-quests connected to the main-quest, it'd be like fighting the arch-demon at the end of the Circle Tower in DA:O.

That felt very much like a Paladin ability called Voice of Command, a favoured power of Konig.

Used to command troops on the battlefield, you've never seen it used in a social setting.

Also it was...unfocused, weaker than normal.
>>
Once the crowd has cleared you can see the thrones occupant. A young girl who looks no more than 14 sits on the throne, a frustrated look on her face.

She has blond hair and brilliant blue eyes and is wearing a white dress decorated with gold thread. She wears a silver crown that sits slightly askew on her head and her long hair reaches past her shoulders all the way to the seat of the throne. Her arms twitch on the thrones armrests as if she wants to pound them in frustration or possibly hit someone.
She is slender and has a fine, delicate appearance. As she rises from the throne and walks down to meet you, you can see that womanhood is a ways off for her, put her in different clothes and cut her hair and she could pass for a young boy. She’s a little under 5ft in height.

She stalks down the steps towards you and your guard, as she approaches the guards nearby grip your arms tightly, thinking they can restrain you.

Her attention is focused mainly on the old man at your side “Really Sam, they don’t listen, they never listen, I’ve told them dozens of times it’s not happening and yet they- oooooooh! I could just scream!”

Master Hafness says calmly “They’ll come around your highness, in the meantime” he casts a significant look at you.

The Princess seems to notice you for the first time and takes a moment to stare at you in shock, giving you a detailed stare top to bottom, and then again, before focusing on your wings.

“What...what are you?” she asks, somewhat breathlessly.

“More to the point” cuts across Master Hafness “Who sent her, your highness, if you would”

“Ah, yes, of course” she says and approaches you. The soldiers holding your arms try to push you down in a kneeling position, not that they can if you choose not to let them.

Let's not mention House Valyenya, given that there is a, presumably demon-worshipping, if it's in Drache, noble house of the same name.

I assume that the Duke is a demon lord. They are often given noble titles in fantasy literature.

>>33444149
>Give her whatever respect is appropriate to a ruler of our realm.
I assume this means kneeling, but if our position as palading places us outside the usual social hierarchy or lets us get away with another sign (bow/nodding etc) that is my vote.
>Introduce yourself as Sireyi, outsider of this plane, paladin to the goddess of Joy, Velya.
>>
>>33444206
Duke is also a title for high-ranking nobility, the way he phrased it makes me think The Sorceror was some kind of traitor to the Island of Storms,
and was thrown into the Hearthfire, which is probably how they punish traitors, to destroy them utterly.
He also mentioned he was the third, which doesn't seem like a demon thing.

It could really be either, but let's just be optimistic about this one thing until we have the chance to get clarification.

The giving of noble titles to demon-kind in fantasy literature is probably a holdover from Goetia and The Lesser Key, which have influenced modern demonology greatly.
>>
You kneel, giving the soldiers just enough resistance to make a point. Master Hafness frowns and reaches inside his pocket, quietly retrieving a wand, but not doing anything with it.

“I’m Sireyi” you say “paladin to the goddess of Joy, Velya, you are the Princess of Jalweyen I presume?”

“Hush” she says absently “You’re spoiling my concentration.”

“Don’t worry” says the princess “This won’t hurt” and then she puts both hands on the sides of your head, a look of concentration on her face.

You feel a familiar power surge within you, searching you for signs of evil. Very familiar in fact, this girl is a paladin. As her powers encounter your own, the two of you experience a moment of...connection. You can tell that she’s a paladin of Konig, and that her powers, though very strong are untrained, like a novice paladin only just called to serve. Through your connection you can feel her shock at discovering you are also a paladin, and her confusion that your powers are subtly different to her own (Paladin of Velya vs Paladin of Konig).

She doesn’t seem to want to stop touching you, keeping her hands on your head, revelling in the connection between the two of you. After a few moments Master Hafness asks “Well, is she an agent of Drache?”

“No” says the Princess, not taking her eyes off your face, shaking her head slightly “She’s not, she’s, she’s like me. She’s a royal, though I think she’s from another kingdom.”

“What?” asks Master Hafness in confusion.

“She has powers, royal powers like mine!” says the princess, her voice rising to a near-squeal of excitement “Oh this is amazing, tell me, where do you come from? How many of your family has the royal powers? Are you in the line of succession? Does all your royal family have wings? Where you born with them? Do you think I could grow some too?”

“This could still be a trick-” Master Hafness starts “Of course it’s not a trick!” says the princess “I would know. Let her go” she orders the guards holding you, they release their grip on you and step back, though they still remain close by.

We have been, at this level Angel's Magic gives +3 willpower and +20 arcane energy.

“Your highness” interrupts Master Hafness “Your highness, there’s still a lot for you to do this afternoon.”

Princess Sofia’s shoulders slump “Oh yes, that” she looks at you, hope shining in her eyes “We’ll talk this evening and you can stay in the palace, please say you’ll stay.”

After leaving the Princess to her day job, you confer with Master Hafness about a safe place to teleport to, he directs you to a small courtyard that is seldom used and has a guard stay there to ensure that no one uses it until you do, to prevent any problems.

You also warn him about what Bokin is, “A frost giant” he says with a raised eyebrow, I though the Empire had wiped them out, I’d enjoy talking to him.”

With that you fly back to the mainland, the storm takes no notice of you. You pass high over the coast town and continue on towards the hills, where you can see Bokin trying to teach Ebonsong to fetch a stick, with little success.

You descend and tell Bokin what’s going on, Ebonsong swarms up your leg and perches on your shoulder.

“Hold on” you say to Bokin as you prepare to call down the lightning “This is going to be f-”
(DE 2/27)
“-un” you finish, as the three of you appear in the abandoned courtyard, startling the guard out of a daze. He looks up, and up at Bokin, his eyes wide “I...I’ll tell Master Hafness you’re back” he says weakly.

You decide to spend the rest of the day walking around the palace talking to the people who live there, finding out about the place. Bokin stays with you, gaping in astonishment at everything he sees. Ebonsong remains wrapped around your neck, simply watching and listening.

The Island of Storms has always been the property of House Jalweyen, Royal family of the Kingdom of Hanse. It was something of a personal home for the family, a chance to escape the duties of rulership, as most of Hanse was on the mainland. Hanse is now under the control of the Drache Empire, the Island is all that remains free.

The Drache Empire has been making pacts with demons for a long, long time. However 500 years ago they successfully summoned 3 powerful demon lords, who bought with them an army of demons, and set out to conquer the world. They first attacked Hanse 100 years ago, having started their empire thousands of miles away.

The Gods are remembered by a few, though most dismiss them as legends or ‘if they ever were real, they abandoned us long ago’.

You do find out that ‘Konig’ is the name of the first King of Hanse, who lived 2,000 years ago and founded the ruling house (Jalweyen), believed to have been named for his wife.

The islands barrier is a source of much hearsey and speculation, but this much can be agreed upon: Long ago the House of Jalweyen hired a wizard to create a way of disposing of filth and rubbish.

He created what is now the Heartfire – a magical flame capable of destroying anything, it is supposedly powered by something deep within the ground that keeps it burning forever. House Jalweyen found this so useful they kept hiring wizards to improve their private island, adding conveniences and defences.

The island is currently host to hundreds of spells, minor and major, most of which draw power from the Heartfire – if it was ever extinguished then the Island would be nearly defenceless.

Of course, as long as House Jalweyen survives, the Heartfire cannot be extinguished, so they say. Princess Sofia is the last surviving member of House Jalweyen and the few remaining nobles of Hanse are trying to convince her to marry in order to continue the line.
>>
>>33445155
The Regency Council is engaged in a struggle both to convince the Princess to marry, and an internal power struggle over who she will marry. There’s talk of them passing a decree that the Princess must marry before she reaches the age of 18, or accept the husband the Council recommends. This is to be voted on by the Council in the next few days and is expected to pass.

Finding this out takes the rest of the day, it’s getting dark and Bokin is looking tired, worn out from walking all around the castle. Ebonsong is asleep around your neck. The princess seemed to want to speak to you later but apparently won’t be free until after dark.

The three of you have been given a suite of rooms, with three beds pushed together in one room for Bokin to sleep on.

You pray, and achieve a sense of peacefulness, but do not receive any communication or instruction from your goddess.

You wait for the princess to summon you. Bokin and Ebonsong are out cold.

That evening, just after dark a servant comes to your quarters and says that the princess will see you now.
You are led through the castle to the princess’ private chambers, with two guards outside. One gives you a quick pat down, looking for concealed weapons, and then you are allowed to enter.

You enter a large sitting room, with comfy-looking chairs near a hearth. Further back is a small dining table and chairs, being prepared by servants.

The princess is fussing over the servants who are setting the table for dinner “No that should go there, the red roses not the white ones, everything needs to be perfect. Yes, good like that, thank you.”

There’s a fire in the hearth and the table is set for a candle-lit dinner for two.

As your escort announces you the Princess spins around in surprise “Sireyi!” she says, rushing over to greet you “I’m so glad you came, please, sit, sit” she gestures at the dining table “would you like some wine?” To the servants she says “that will be all thank you” the servants bow and leave. “I’d love some wine” you say, sitting at the table, you’re wearing a formal dress that was lent to you by a kindly servant, apparently found in storage some time ago. The fit isn’t too bad, a little snug around the hips and chest.

“Well...this looks...intimate...” you say, you know how courtly romances are supposed to go and you wonder if you’ve given her the wrong signals.

“I know” she says, pouring you both some wine “Just the two of us, isn’t it great? No stuffy Council telling me what to do.”

The two of you start chatting, or rather, the Princess starts bubbling over and you barely get a word in. You let her gush for a while and then try to steer the conversation. After a while the servants arrive with your meal. It seems she wants to know everything, you have a few questions for her too.

“We’ll take it in turns, asking 1 question each time.” You say, trying to calm her down.

“Very well” she says “What is your first question?”

simple questions first. We have the whole evening and I don't want to ruin the mood by starting with evil and serious questions.
>>
>>33445155
>The island is currently host to hundreds of spells, minor and major, most of which draw power from the Heartfire – if it was ever extinguished then the Island would be nearly defenceless.

>Of course, as long as House Jalweyen survives, the Heartfire cannot be extinguished, so they say. Princess Sofia is the last surviving member of House Jalweyen and the few remaining nobles of Hanse are trying to convince her to marry in order to continue the line.

A thought just occurred to me, what if 'sacrifice an innocent or allow a great evil to go free' actually meant that we'd either need to convince the princess to continue the line or allow her to not do such a thing and then the hearthfire goes out on her death, allowing the Duke to escape?

It seems that the choice, rather than being Murder/Release-evil, would be to convince her to marry that 'Lord Ninver', who is likely a terrible person, given that the best compliment the other nobles gave him is that he's 'not that bad', or to allow her to pursue...well, to put it bluntly, I think she might only be interested in women.

It might not be the case, but it fits too much for me to not say anything.

Of course, the correct answer is neither, instead finding her true love and/or learning enough transmutation to teach Hafness a spell so that her and whatever girl she eventually falls for can produce children.

Yes, I did just imply that the third option we so desperately seek is to find or invent a spell of Lesser Magical Realm.
>>
>>33445595
That's not the supersecret hidden special 3rd option I was planning on. But you can make it a 4th option if you want.

And yes, there IS a third option planned, it's just not obvious.

I do not plan to force the players into a railroad binary choice, but the two most obvious options are both bad choices, just bad in different ways.

I remain confident that the players can and will invent options 4, 5, 6, 7 etc.

“Oh that” she says, looking sombre “three powerful demon lords came to Drache a long time ago. When the Drache attacked Hanse, one of them led a personal assault on the Island of Storms, he said he’d easily conquer a place that’s never fallen to any invader before.”

“My grandfather and three of his brothers all had the royal powers very strongly, and they fought him in the castle courtyard, as his army tried to capture the town. In the end they defeated him, though my grandfather and two of his brothers died in the battle. Supposedly the demon claimed that he could not be killed, so my great-uncle cast his body into the Heartfire where it remains ever regenerating, ever burning.”

“The Demon Lord was one of three that ruled Drache, I can’t pronounce his name but everyone just called him the Sorcerer – the others are the Warrior and the Ruler. Without him to break the tie of power the other 2 Demon Lords spend a lot of time arguing and fighting each other, and the Empire has slowed its expansion ever since.”

“Huh” you say eloquently, digesting this information “what’s your question?”

“Oh there’s so much I want to ask you” she says, “but where to begin, I guess, I guess, tell me about the world you come from, what’s it like?”

>Tell her about the world in general (you didn’t always fall asleep in politics class during your paladin training)
>Are there any nations aside from Drache and Hanse?

You tell her about the world you grew up in, outlining the different kingdoms, their peoples, their histories, their successes and their failures.

“That sounds wonderful” she says “The way my tutors tell me the world used to be, before the Empire of Drache”

“Are there any empires besides Drache?” you ask. “No” she responds “there’s barely any countries left. The plains nomads to the east still hold out, and the Kingdom of Jarvik, the sea-raiders, is thought to be unconquerable, but the nomads live in clans, they have no single ruler, and Jarvik is a tiny island nation. Once there were many nations, now all are simply provinces of the Empire.”

“Your wings are beautiful” she says, looking them over “Can you fly? Can I touch them?”

>I can fly, very fast actually
>It’s more gliding than flying (lie)
>I can’t fly (lie)

I found more errors, OP.
I'm so sorry.

error from the background on the CS:
>But it wasn’t all fun. A particularly arrogant knight-aspirant wouldn’t give you a moments piece
Should be 'peace', not 'piece'
'Moments' may or may not need an apostrophe, it's a turn-of-phrase so regular grammatical rules don't really apply.

CS formatting error:
>(p)Willpower- 19 (+4)
Should be:
>(p)Willpower- 16 (+3) Angel's Magic 19 (+4)
So that we can tell what the base is easily.

CS formatting error:
When multiple levels of certain powers are purchased, some powers list the abilities of both L1 and L2 (Divine Warrior), which seems redundant given that only the highest rank matters.

CS formatting error:
>Smite 1: [Ability Description]
>2 - [Rank Description]
Should be:
>Smite: [Ability Description]
>2 - [Rank Description]

CS formatting error:
Near-identical situation to above:
>Healing Touch 2: [Ability Description]
>2 - [Rank Description]
Should be:
>Healing Touch: [Ability Description]
>2 - [Ability Description]

You may also wish to remove the '1' after Redeeming Touch but before the colon, instead placing it after the colon in '1 - [desc]' format to prevent such an error when we get RT2.

CS error:
Angel's Magic is still displaying the first rank, rather than the second.

Also, don't worry about any of us thinking less of you for a few CS errors.
Everything is amazing, and I usually catch them quickly enough that nobody really has a chance to be bothered by it.

“Oh yes” she says, as if remembering “I looked up the name in the library, Konig was the name of the first King of Hanse, my ancestor, some coincidence, huh?”

With the number of feathers you have, there’s always 1 or 2 ready to come loose. You do molt occasionally, but even when your wings get damaged, everything regrows.

Self-justification: 'I ran away because a Goddess called me to serve' sounds better than 'I ran away because I was a stubborn and willful brat'

Or did you run away because your future self planted the idea in your subconsciousness hmm? Is every choice you make a result of manipulation by your future self reaching back across time?

Time Travel is about a thousand times worse than Magical Realm, especially if it fucks with player agency or the player's sense of free will.

What the hell are you talking about, he was clearly talking about how we replayed the backstory few threads ago. “Here” you say, combing through your wings until you find a feather ready to fall out “Keep it, as a memento.”

Princess Sofia takes it carefully, like it’s make of glass “Thank you” she gushes, the conversation is interrupted whilst she finds a suitable box to keep it in.

“I was born into a noble house” you say, keeping the name to yourself no clear consensus so I rolled a die
”I was supposed to marry...someone I didn’t love” you say, not wanting to get into that whole...mess.
“I ran away because I felt the call of Velya” Although you wonder how long Velya had her eye on you.
“I’m the only Paladin of Velya in a long time, so I mostly trained with Paladin candidates of other gods”

Your story done, you ask your next question “I’m not sure the name is a coincidence, have you ever thought you might be descended from a god?”

Princess Sofia thinks about that for a moment “Not really, it’s always just been ‘the powers of the royal line’. I mean, what are Konig and his followers like?”

Yeah, pretty much what I'm thinking. I'm not sure where the lack of player agency is here. Eventually, if Pally was fucking around with Time Travel, it just comes down to railroading which Pally has been very good at not doing. While still managing to keep a coherent campaign going.

But what if future PLAYERS manipulated past players into voting in a certain way?
>>
>>33446267
I was talking about his joking implication that Future!Siyeri had mentally manipulated Child!Siyeri and implied that all our choices are the result of such manipulation.
Essentially, we chose to visit the dragon's lair first, and therefore future!Siyeri chose to visit it first and the only reason we did the same thing is because of her mental suggestion.
The implication would be that we're being railroaded, our future self is us and there's no path that will alter our future self due to all our choices retroactively having been identical to hers.
Which is true already due to being our future self.

...

My point is basically that time travel is confusing bullshit and should never be mentioned in anything ever.

They are good and zealous fighters that stick to a strict code of morals. But sometimes that strictness and inflexibility can create problems. Don't get me wrong, against a great evil you want no other allies than Konig. But when encountering the lesser evils that people do day to day to survive... they tend to see matters as black and white.
>>
>>33446359
...but anon. Theres no proof that its not that way. It also has literally no relevance since we are still making the decisions. Also
> our future self is us and there's no path that will alter our future self due to all our choices retroactively having been identical to hers.
Thats often how time travel is shown to work. Its paradoxical, but it is still recursive like that.

More than anything though the point is moot. Its literally just how you are choosing to see your actions. Its similar to how certain people believe that god knows everything that will happen and therefore all of your actions are actually predetermined and you don't have free will.
In theory thats problematic but in practice it has literally no effect on your decisions.
>>
Something to consider:

If the council can make up new, ridiculous laws like forcing someone to marry at the age of 18 then they can change or remove old laws.
We simply need to convince them to change the law that says the princess cannot marry someone of the common blood. Since we are a very good diplomancer, this can work well.

Hanse has had queens who ruled in their own names, some were the greatest rulers in our history!” She stops ranting and says grudgingly “But they really hate the Empire of Drache, so there’s that.”

“Lord Michol rules the next largest, his faction wants to compromise on everything, I should share power, all the nobles should get to vote on my husband, we should make peace with Drache, and so on.”

“Lord Lenda” she says fondly “is a funny old man who doesn’t seem to care what people think of him, he only has a few allies in the Council but he seems to think I should have the most freedom. He’s also been poring through the lawbooks for me to see if there’s any old rules I could use to get out of my marriage. He suggested a sham engagement to someone to prevent a marriage, but the Council heard about it and changed the law before we could act.”
>>
>>33446762
This might be a necessary rule because if your kingdom relies on the purity of blood, inbred nobles are actually a better choice than commoners. This only applies if the nobles do have traces of royal blood, of course.

Not always, demons tend to be the exception to a lot of rules for paladins.

A weak demon that you had defeated yourself (i.e. its not a threat to you), with no bystanders in the vicinity for it to attack might force a roll to avoid falling.

A very powerful demon is never truly helpless, not for very long. Killing one in cold blood does not violate your code.

>Success
You can kill a demon, in fact servants of the gods (paladins, clerics, angels etc) are the only ones who can perma-kill demons.

Unless you kill a demon with smite, angel fire or a similar ability, it just returns to Hell.

How difficult is it to banish a demon that has already established his presence in material plane?

Most likely, unless we find some further means of strengthening us and weakening the fiend.
>>
>>33446963
>>33446951
I'll word of god this one, since it's a rules thing.

Yes, a Demon Lord 'could' resist such a powerful dismissal. You could weaken it first by beating it up, removing it from its place of power, removing any spells it has that give it resistance to being banished.

A fully-prepped DL is hard to banish, a weakened one is much easier.

“Why the rush for you to marry?” you ask

“My ancestors” she responds “in their...wisdom, decided that this island was an ideal place for their children to grow up, and being doting parents, decided those children needed protection.”

“The magical defences of the island are very strong, but whenever there is a child, someone under the age of 18, of the Jalweyen House in residence, the defences are much stronger, supposedly impenetrable” She finishes “Hence the rush”.

“But you’ve got years before you need to marry then” you reason.

She gives you a flat look and then draws herself up to her full height, every inch the princess and says “How old do you think I am?”

“uh...15” you say, it’s always good to over-estimate a young girls age, it lets them know you see them as mature.

She narrows her eyes at you “in three months” she says, her every word precise “I will be 18.”

“You said you’ve fought demons, but if you had to, could you kill one?” She presses you for an answer.

But if she's talking about the one in the Heartfire, very small chance to beat that. I mean you're not really a veteran paladin.

We can roll that one into the heir one generally.

“Yes I can” you say “though I have no guarantee I could beat one of course.”
She goes quiet at your answer, thinking it over.

“Why do you want to know?” you venture.

“My father” she says “Asked the wizards who once lived here if they could remove the Demon Lord from the Heartfire so that he could use his...royal powers to kill it.”

“After casting many divinations and consulting their spellbooks they concluded that they could interrupt the Heartfire for a few seconds without truly extinguishing it, at that point the Demon Lord would be very vulnerable, perhaps as powerful only as a minor demon, for several minutes, before its powers returned.”

“Unfortunately when they tried to interrupt the Heartfire something went wrong, and they all died” her voices catches “as did my father.”

After a moment she continues “I wanted to know just in case something were to...stop the Heartfire for a moment, if you could kill the Sorcerer.”

She takes a moment before asking her next question. It’s getting late, you might only have the chance to ask her one more tonight, before you both retire for the night.

“Is there anyone...special in your life?” she asks shyly, taking a drink of wine to cover her nervousness.

>Ah no, not the way I think you’re asking

Since we're a paladin of Velya, couldn't we officiate the marriage ceremony?
I doubt they have laws in regard to wedlock in a religious manner, given that nobody even seems to know what gods are.
Then she could marry whoever she wants and the nobles can't do shit about it.
>>
>>33447248
I think it's clear that the entire goal of the Regency Council is to take her out of power and seat someone they like.
>>
“Ah no, not the way I think you’re asking” you say “Oh” she says, disappointed “I was hoping you could offer me some advice about it.”

“So why not marry and produce an heir, if it safeguards your people, unpleasant as it is, do you not have a duty to everyone?” you expand upon your point “could you not marry a commoner? Do you even need to get married, could you not take a consort or something?”

She ponders this carefully before explaining “The law which says I must marry a noble – even a noble from a foreign land will do – was about securing alliances. It could be changed, yes. But the Council will not change it because they want me controlled – married to someone they control.”

“As for having a child” she pauses “I have visions sometimes, visions of what’s going to happen, do you think that’s a Paladin thing?”

“My Goddess has granted me visions before” you say.

“Demons can’t set foot on this island” she says, on a seemingly different topic “Nor part-demons, or anyone with more than a tiny amount of demon-blood in them. But they still send assassins to kill me. My life has been under constant threat ever since my father died, since before that really. In the last few days there have been seven attempts on my life – there was even one this afternoon.”

“I had a vision that if I were to get pregnant, the Empire of Drache would find out and increase their efforts, that I would die of poison before my child was born. And that if I did, the Island of Storms would be doomed – The Heartfire would go out, and the defences would fail.”

“Of course the Council doesn’t believe this” she says “To them it’s an idle girlish worry about the pain of childbirth – or a complete fabrication. But I know, I know that it is true.”
>>
The fire has almost burned down and it’s very late. The Princess rises and you rise as well. She hugs you and says “Thank you for taking me seriously, I hope to see you tomorrow.”

You both go back to your beds.

The next morning, Bokin, Ebonsong and yourself are enjoying breakfast in your quarters. Bokin has successfully taught Ebonsong how to beg for food, as she’s sat in your lap looking mournful and neglected every time a morsel of food makes its way from your plate to your mouth and not hers.

A servant brings you a message for you, the Princess requests your presence at her morning training. The invitation names you only, but doesn’t prohibit you bringing others.

You all follow the servant down to the gardens, where two figures in masks and loose-fitting armour are fighting with slender swords. Ah, it’s been years since you fenced, you use to love that as a child. During Paladin training you had no chance to – all of your training was done with heavier weapons.

One of the figures is an adult man, and the other, from the size and the long hair tied back, is Sofia. Nearby a half-dozen guards watch everything. As you enter the guards speak to you briefly upon the orders of the Princess, you are allowed to carry weapons in her presence – a rare declaration of trust. Bokin surrenders his greatsword, used to the routine by now.

The fencing is taking place in a square bordered by thick hedges, with only 1 way in or out, nearby a lone gardener is trimming stray branches with a pair of shears.

Nearby is weapons rack full of blunted or wooden blades of all kinds. Other nearby racks have various suits of padded armour.

You get there just as the bout is finishing, Sofia scores the final point on her opponent and the two raise their weapons in salute, bow to one another and then take off their masks. The man is someone you don’t recognise.

“You’re getting better your ‘ighness’ he says “Soon you won’ need the likes o’ me ta train ya.”

“You’re too kind Dyffyd” she demures.

Spotting you she comes rushing over “Sireyi, Sireyi, will you fence with me?”

"Focus upon your paladin powers" you say "They are a part of you, just like your arms and legs."

Sofia nods and the two of you fight, exchanging several blows.

Her blade flickers towards you again and you prepare to deflect it with your own. As the two blades connect there is a flash of light and your blade is snapped in two.

In contrast, Sofia's blade is no longer a dulled, well-used practice weapon, it is a perfect example of the art of weapons-craft.

A paragon of blades with no rust or blemishes, it gleams in the early morning light. Sofia doesn't seem to notice, driving the blade at your chest.

You quickly step out of the way of her blow and grab her wrist, stopping her long enough for her to see what she's holding.

"Did,,,did...was that me?" she squeaks.

Third, the main thing she's worried about isn't having the heir, or even marrying someone she doesn't love, it's that she had a vision that if she gets pregnant and assassin will kill her with poison before her child is born.

And the last horse crosses the finish line.
Did you think everyone was voting to train her in paladin powers because it was *fun*?
Do you honestly think you're *so* intelligent that you are the only one who had these thoughts?

Also, her powers are due to divine blood, not being a paladin, which means she only gets favored powers of Konig.
As in not Blessed Health, which is favored of Velya.

“Good” you say “That’s right, feel your powers, they are a part of you, they’ll come to you in a fight”

Sofia takes of her mask saying “If you don’t need one, neither do I”

You take up your stances, she’s still holding that perfect blade, you have only a practise blade.

As you move into the ready stance, you see a look of intense focus enter her eyes. Uh-oh, you’ve seen Paladins of Konig looking at you like that before, they had this ability called Battle Mastery that-

Sofia moves faster than she did before, her entire body moving smoothly with no wasted motions. As you move to block her strike she simply twists her blade slightly, knocking yours aside. In the same motion her blade flickers up towards your eye-socket as she lunges, ready to driver her blade through your eye and into your brain.

You twist at the last moment and the blade gashes along the side of your head, your divine protections not much use against her enchanted blade. (HP 53/58)

Yup, it’s Battle Mastery, an ability that enhances the skill of the fighter and directs their blows towards weak points, it doesn’t care about match points and rules, only victory.

[Sofia unlocked Battle Mastery]
[Battle Mastery: Bonus to all combat rolls, partially ignores targets DR. Favoured of Konig.
1 - +3 to all combat rolls, ignore 2 points of DR.]

As your blood paints the ground, and Sofia’s blade she snaps out of it.

“Sireyi!” she wails, dropping her blade, as it leaves her hand it reverts to a dull practise blade “no, nononono! What have I done?!”

You reassure her that it’s just a fleshwound, she is terribly distraught over what she has done. How do you respond.

“I don’t know how” she wails “Just relax” you say, “I’ll talk you through it.” With a soothing voice and a little patience you help her heal your wound, it disappears without a scar.

“See?” you say “You healed me.”

“Well I’m not risking anything else like that” she insists “Training is over for today.”

With the match over you congratulate the Princess on a well-fought battle. She bows to you in response, sweat beading on her brow. She moves over to the weapons and armour racks, putting the weapon on the rack and stripping her armour off, leaving just padded clothes underneath. You still have your practise blade in hand.

You realise the gardeners been trimming that one small section of the hedge for several minutes now. He must really take his job seriously. Hang on a second...

You moment of suspicion means you are the only one looking in the gardeners direction when he snaps his shears in two and rushes at Sofia, twin blades in his hands. Sofia has just struggled out of her padded top, dragging it over her head and is coming up for air, oblivious to the danger.

You have only a split second to make your decision. What do you do?

You speed towards Sofia, thrusting her out of the way as the 'gardener' attacks you with his twin blades.

It's not easy defending yourself with a dull practise blade, in fact he hits you several times with his blades, though your divine protections shield you from harm.

In moments he is buried under a pile of guardsmen who haul him away.

"Thank you" says the Princess, staring at you in gratitude "even after I hurt you, you still attacked him with just a practise blade."

Impulsively she hugs you, wrapping her arms tightly around you and squeezing as hard as she can.

"It's fine" you say, reassuring her "Part of being a paladin is doing the right thing, no matter the risk to one-self."

After saving Sofia’s life she decides you are her new best friend and need to accompany her everywhere. Bokin has been chatting with some of the guards and they invite him to weapons practise with them, seems he won’t come to any harm.

The meeting of the Regency Council is not very exciting. With such a small island it seems every petty dispute is bought to the attention of the monarch.

So far you’ve sat through a debate on fishing rights (should a duty be levied on night fishermen who do not return to shore until after dawn, even if they pulled in their nets before sunrise?); town planning (Do blocked up windows still count as windows for tax purposes?), and; docking fees (the smugglers that supply the island with essentials despite the Empire of Drache declaring the island off limits want all docking fees waived, not just those that are normally waived on a supply run).

In fact it’s also boring Sofia. It could be the topics, or it could be the way Lord Michol drones on and on in his characteristic monotone.

As Sofia sits at the council table almost nodding off, Lord Ninver asks in a concerned sounding voice “My dear, are you fatigued, would you like to retire?”

At the sound of his voice her eyes snap open and she sits bolt-upright “No” she says clearly “I am fine”.

“Ah” he says “Well then, since you’re in the Council chambers, you’re obviously safe, perhaps your...companion...has better things to do?”

“She stays” says Sofia, laying a hand on your shoulder.

“I think that’s a decision the Council should make.” Ripostes Lord Ninver, looking around at the assembled nobles “are we in such danger, are we such frightened children that we need armed guards in here, the safest part of the castle?”

>Remain silent

>>
>>33449019

It doesn't work that way.
The Hearthfire is what powers it and it is it's own thing, the reason for her to have an heir is because that makes the island go into hyper-protective mode like it is right now.
There's no real barrier, it's a series of magical wards and the storm around the island.

I also suspect there is a commoner she likes, so really the only things in the way of her happiness are that if she gets pregnant, she'll die without our interference in some way, and that the council won't let her be with her commoner husbando.

>Detect Evil: You are able to detect evil. This comes in two forms, active and passive.
>Passive detection is always on but may miss weaker or more subtle evils. Active involves actively focusing on a person, place or object (including a spell) and picks up any evil not shielded by powerful magic. Passive detection is longer range, though only very powerful evil is detected beyond 50ft or so.
>Active detection is only valid within about 5ft.
>Magical evils (demons, evil magic) are detected, but non-magical evils are only detected if they are very evil. I.e. you don’t detect most thieves, but you’d pick up on a cruel slave trader, or mass murderer.

This isn't normal fantasy Detect Evil.

Detect Evil
The overwhelming evil coming from the Hearthfire makes it hard to be completely sure but you detect no magical evil from the nobles.

Arcane Sight
This place has multiple protective spells built into it, also most of the nobles have protective magical items on their persons, ranging from good luck charms to poison resistance to warnings against surprise attack.

Several of the nobles, all obviously in Lord Ninvers camp - including Lord Ninver - have a complete absence of any magical signatures coming from them.

They may be warded against detection spells.

>Third, the main thing she's worried about isn't having the heir, or even marrying someone she doesn't love, it's that she had a vision that if she gets pregnant and assassin will kill her with poison before her child is born.
Yes, which is why I proposed it, she won't get pregnant, rather she'll get the MC pregnant, who would be immune to poison and disease at that point and could pop that thing out in a month.

Immunity to poison and disease is worth it by itself, keeping a stronghold within this dimension is just the bonus.

“Sofia should decide” you say “This is her castle and she is the Princess.” The nods around the room indicate that most of the nobles agree on this point.

Lord Ninver smiles thinly “Of course” he says “As you wish, your highness, I spoke only out of concern for your safety, you...guard could no doubt protect you more thoroughly in another location, perhaps your own chambers? If you are feeling tired that is?”

The aged Lord Lenda speak up, his voice a rough croak “I think what the Honourable Lord Ninver is trying to say is that the ruler of our kingdom should go and embroider something like a good little girl, whilst he continues his blatant grab for her power without having the decency to look her in the eye whilst he makes her his slave.”

“Lord Lenda you forget yourself!” snarls Ninver

“Do I?” he says “Yes, some days I suppose I do, but not today, go ahead and put forward your proposed amendment to the Royal Marriages Act, like you were planning to.”

Ninver glares at Lenda, who simply smiles back at him and says “Let’s all have a vote on that with the Princess present shall we?”

Lord Ninver pauses and then says smoothly “Actually, such an important vote warrants further consideration, in addition we have a...time-critical situation on our hands.”

“As many of you know, the Council pays the Thieves guild in Ravensport, our closest neighbouring settlement, under the fist of the Drache Empire, for information. We have received a troubling report. Apparently an important and skilled Assassin in the employ of the Empire has recently arrived in Ravensport and will be trying to infiltrate our island. It is of utmost urgency that someone contacts the guild to obtain a name, a description and as much information about his methods as possible, so as best to safeguard our princess.”
>>
>>33449494
Ninver turns to you “Lady Sireyi, I ask of you, will you take this task upon yourself? With your abilities you could be in Ravensport and back again in a matter of hours.”

Seems they want you to go to that coastal village and make contact with the thieves guild, or maybe they just want you out of the way.

>>33449681
Konig is her great times something grandfather.
That's even more magical realm than the dickgirl pregnancies.
Also nonsense, since divine powers can't reach this realm, hence why all our DE costs for using our paladin powers are doubled.

>>33449707
We need 40 DE for a round-trip
>>
>>33449681
if he could do that, we would just blow the horn and crush, kill and destroy every daemon in the world
>>
Should we try and make Sofia pray so that she gets connection Konig?
Worked for us, could work for her.

Either way, we should pray again
>>
>>33449722
Just a reminder, since I myself forgot. We can use Health in place of DE. It is a 1:1 ratio I do believe. It also heals over time.
>>
>>33449681

That would be incest. Fritzl pls.
>>
>>33449651
>Magical realm
Nothing magical realm about popping out babies for purely mechanical reasons.

I was just thinking about having a stable base to work from, and assumed that we couldn't use the ability on others.
>>
>>33449681
because thats totally more possible than him just outright breaking the barrier and saving the realm right?
>>
>>33449756
>metagaming so hard
Looks like we have someone worse than murderhobo anon
>>
>>33449750
Yes, I know.
It also heals at a rate of 1/day and we'd need to burn 13 to have enough.
Do you seriously think that's a good idea?

>>33449756
>Nothing magical realm about turning someone into a dickgirl and having them knock up Sireyi
>Nothing out of character either
>Watch me jump off this building, I'm pretty sure I'll fly
This is hilarious.
>>
>>33449750
It only heals at whatever "natural regeneration" is. I wouldn't want to rely on that for teleporting. Might be an idea when we need to cast that 50DE plane-shift power.
>>
>>33449722
use health for the trip than
we can spare 13 or so health
>>

>Dickgirl
Never implied by me, I was proposing a temporary polymorph into a dude, dickgirl is from your own perverted mind.
>>
>>33449787
>>33449789
I wasn't saying we should do it, just pointing out that it is possible to do so. As far as it being a good idea or not, its meh. I'd prefer to do something else but its not a terrible course of action.

>>33449825
Oh, so you just want ftm transgender porn.
Got it.

Sofia also outright said she doesn't like girls, and we don't even have any way to polymorph.

Aside from that, it's wildly out-of-character and unnecessary.
>>
>>33449756
>popping out babies for purely mechanical reasons.
I don't even play this quest, just saw this on the first page.
Unless I'm missing something... I get a feeling this guy is retarded
>>
Calm down guys. No need to get all worked up over this stuff. I thought we've already agreed we would coach princess in her paladin abilities so that she won't need us around and can be awesome on her own, including securing an heir in safety and convenience.
>>
>>33449874
>Any plan that utilizing your naughty bits is always magical realm

“I'm sorry. With how you have already tried to remove her protections and your camp already has charms that are intended to shield from someone checking for magic weapons, I do not currently trust her alone in your presence.” You say “in fact Lord Ninver, perhaps with your extensive detection wards, you could pass undetected and correspond with the thieves guild.”

“And finally, if an assassin is nearby, it is not the most reasonable choice to leave their charge for an investigation in another town. Not to mention that they would likely attack me for my heritage.”

The room is stunned into silence by your speech, the silence is broken by Lenda cackling “You tell him girlie!”

“We will continue after a short break” fumes Ninver and storms out of the room.

Sofia claps you on the shoulder and smiles, saying “No one ever talks to Ninver that way, keep it up.”

As the nobles leave, Lord Lenda totters over to you and the Princess “Would you like a walk with an old man in the gardens?” he asks.

“Of course” says Sofia, “Anything for an old friend.”

The three of you take a walk in the palace gardens, guards all around.

“I need to speak to you about a few things” says Lenda “The timing of the report of the assassin arriving is suspicious, but the guild in Ravensport has not given us false information before, nonetheless, caution is warranted. I also need to talk to you about this Marriage Act. And,” he says with a look at you “Your future plans young lady.”

Sofia looks at you “What should we sort out first? Also I need to ask you something.”

Pick one.
I also never said there would be porn, I said you wanted porn.

Aside from that, certain actions require Will saves, a chaste kiss was DC 15, intentionally turning a friend into a male and deliberately getting pregnant is so ridiculous that we'd probably need 3 twenties to even execute your universally hated plan.

He is the guy who knows all the rules, right? Ask him about consorts and other ways to pop out a heir without being tied down.
>Sofia’s question
Ask her if it's something we can answer quickly. If it is, we can do that now, otherwise later.
>My plans
I would be ok with staying long enough to buy accelerated pregnancy and then another 3 months to protect the pregnant girl. Thanks to inter-planar time-dilation the latter would only take 1 month for our party back home and the first can probably be achieved within a week.
>>
>>33449994
Seen it, ate popcorn.
>>
>>33450001
Addendum: There is a high chance that Landa is working for the demons. He is the only person whose plans include there not being a heir in the forseeable future, strongly weakening the protections of the island.
>>
>>33450031
>his plans don't want an heir
His plans want the princess' happiness, he's been deliberately trying to find a loophole so she can marry her possibly non-existent commoner husbando.
Or at least marry who she wants.
>>
>>33450031
They're all shit-tier
One guys a power megalomaniac
One guys a "status quo maintenance"
One guys super suspicious since QM keeps trying to railroad us towards him
>>
>>33450031
You make a good point. Its entirely possible that the nice old man is in fact working for someone evil or accidentally toward evil goals. No path is safe. Burn them all
>>
>>33450001
We don't know if there is even time dilation, OP was very vague on that.
Also, if we get BH3 we can lower it to only one month gestation.

>>33450068
We can only trust ourselves to actually be doing what's best for everyone involved.
>>
>>33450078
Agreed. Or can we... what if Future Sireyi is actually a demon from the future attempting to plunge this plane completely into darkness
>>
>>33450068
Imo: The best option seems to be teaching the grill how to properly use her pally powers and teaching her the blessed health one
>>
>>33450122
It doesn't work that way.
She isn't a paladin, her powers come from divine blood.
She can only get powers that are favored of Konig.
Go check the rule sheet, BH is favored of Velya and Velya.
>>
>>33450031

Meh. Landa would probably ping on detect evil if he was a traitor. I think he's more likely just the kind old uncle who doesn't plan too far ahead though.
>>
>>33450148
Alone.
The second Velya should have "Alone" after it.
4chanX cut off the last bit of my post, I guess.
>>
>>33450122
That would not work. The pregnancy benefit is specific to Velya. (Immunity to poison would still help against assassins, though, so there's that).

>>33450148
>She can only get powers that are favored of Konig.
While her first powers are such, we do not yet know that. It might just be they are easier for her to learn.
Actually, I'm certain "healing" is not a favourite of Konig and she can do that.
>>
>>33450148
Or she is a paladin and all descendents of Konig are paladins.

But I'm pretty sure the preggers powers are for Velya only.

>>
>>33450201
I meant teaching her blessed health for immunity against poison. What'd you think I meant?
>>
>>33450244
I thought you meant teaching it to her so she can hasten her own pregnancy.
