Again, we'll be starting off with someone who isn't Akari.
It's a good way to introduce characters, don'tcha think?
Also, before I forget, I'd like to apologize for Friday. I've started eating a bit healthier and drinking orange juice and stuff, so maybe I'll be sick a bit less.

You can't help but smile at the sight.

You are Miku Tsuruya, perhaps the most capable Technopath in the world, rated at Level 3 by Academy City's most recent System Scan, and the sight before your eyes is just too cute.

Mato-chan, your beloved little sister, is cradling a red-headed girl in her arms, even as she herself is slumped against the headboard.

You never realized how absolutely, positively adorable Akane-chan's little sister was.

She didn't even stir when you implanted the chip in her skull.

The pressure sensors in your left shoulder indicate that there's a hand on it.

Probably Akane-chan's.

You glance over your shoulder and flash her a smile.

“Good work, Miku,” she says, as serious as ever, “and... thanks.”

You wink. “No problem, Akane-chan!”

The hand comes off of your shoulder, and you half-expect her to shake your hand or something. She's always so serious about everything around you. Like she's trying hard at her job or something. Which, in a way, she kind of is?

Her arms are wrapped around you, now. Is she trying to keep you from moving or something?

No, that's not it... This... this is a hug.

Akane-chan is hugging you from behind.

She's warm; warm, and soft.

This is awesome.
>>
You should implant microchips in her sister more often!

She rests her chin on top of your head. “Did Mato tell you anything about what happened last night?”

You shrug. “Some kinda anomalous fire thing. Your sister kicked its ass, apparently, but...” you trail off, somewhat uncomfortable due to the combined intimate contact and odd subject of conversation.

“You think it was something to do with... 'that', don't you?”

You nod. “Yeah. Yeah, I do. But that's not the weirdest part, Akane-chan.”

“Oh? Enlighten me, then; what is the weirdest part?” The playful tone of voice she uses sets you more at ease.

She really knows you in and out, huh?

“There doesn't seem to be any actual harm to her body. Only... only her mind, yanno? And, judging by the pictures Mato showed me, there was a lot of fire- or maybe just a lotta heat- being tossed around. I think her Personal Reality's probably taken a dramatic change, presumably for the more powerful.”

Akane's arms tighten around you a little more. “How much more powerful, you think?”

You shrug as best as you can (though Akane's embrace makes it a tad difficult). “It's pretty much impossible to tell, but- if I had to guess- I'd say she's at least mid-Level 4 at this point. Hence, the chip. Nothing too fancy, just a few basic safeties- kinda like a power limiter or something. Should keep her from accidentally melting stuff around her every time she gets all 'fired up', though it'll probably mess up her heat-sense thing, too, but that seemed like it was messed up anyways. I figured that was an acceptable trade-off.”

Akane's hands move a bit further up your body, to a place that makes your cheeks burn. “I never really gave you enough credit, did I, Miku-chan?” She brings her mouth to your ear. “It's kinda silly, huh? It took seeing our sisters all cuddled up like they are to realize...”

The gunmetal-gray cybernetic limb that replaced your right arm so long ago twitches in anticipation and a faint whirr of servo-motors. You brush your left hand across the place where the prosthetic connects to your flesh-and-blood arm, just below the elbow, and a thought occurs to you.

You need to finish your project.

Like, /now/. You've skipped your last twelve concerts to work on this, after all (holograms are an idol's best friend), and you finally finished it not twenty minutes ago.

An epic struggle between getting laid and doing what's best occurs in your mind, lasting for a span of perhaps a second-and-a-half, before the decision is made.

You place your hands over Akane's. “I-I-”

She jerks her hands away from you faster than you had previously thought possible.

“I'm sorry, I'm so, SO sorry, I wasn't thinking, I just assumed you were-”

You whip your head to the side in such a way that one of your absurdly-long turquoise twintails smacks her in the face. “A-as much as I want... this... there's something important we need to do first.”

“... I don't think Academy City has gay marriage laws. In fact, I don't think Academy City has marriage laws, period.”

“W-w-w-w-whaaaaa-” Why are your knees so wobbly?

Oh dear.

Akane-chan snickers. “I'm teasing you, Miku-chan. What is it?”

You lean heavily on the kitchen counter, having stumbled through the door on your wibbly-wobbly knees.

You pant a little before righting yourself once more and begin to lead Akane-chan through your apartment. You reach your bedroom and open the door, and, once Akane has closed the bedroom door behind you, you gesture with your right hand and ask the hidden room door to open itself.

It slides aside with a futuristic KTSSSSSS sound, not unlike the sound made by a pneumatic mechanism that may or may not be concealed within your wall.

You will the lights to turn on in your secluded workshop, and, naturally, they comply.

It's spacious, as any workshop ought to be, owing to its previous status as a 'walk-in closet'.

Apparently, most people think of idols as being stuck up, rich, and highly interested in fashion or shoes or... something.

What a bunch of weirdos.

You gesture to the central workbench, where your latest and most amazing project currently resides.

She sits on the table, kicking her legs a little as she fingers her weapon- a staff-like energy weapon capable of immense destruction... in the right hands. She looks over at you, inspecting you- and, more likely, Akane- with her remarkably warm and lifelike eyes.

“How're ya feelin' there, kiddo? You decide on a name yet?”

The response comes in the form of a loud, monotone, and generally classic robot voice- which is exactly what you were going for, given you based this particular voice off of the Cylons (the original ones, of course). [ALL PRIMARY SYSTEMS NOMINAL. COMBAT FUNCTION SIMULATIONS CURRENTLY UNDERWAY. ESTIMATED TIME TO COMPLETION: SEVEN MINUTES TWENTY-THREE SECONDS. FLIGHT CAPABILITIES HAVE BEEN ASSESSED AND RATED AT A TWO POINT FOUR SEVEN OUT OF TEN ON A STANDARD NUMERIC GRADING SCALE.]

There's a pause as it contemplates the second question.

It answers in a gentler, less robotic voice. “... You are the equivalent to my mother, correct?”

You blink.

“Uh... yeah, I guess...?” You don't like where this is going.

“It is human custom for the mother to name her child, is it not?”

Akane snickers.

The girl seems to come to some sort of revelation from Akane's laughter, because she says, “Oh, I understand,” hops off of the table, and approaches you and your red-headed love interest.

“You are both female. Standard protocols and procedures may not apply.” She looks back and forth between the two of you.
>>
“Which one of you is my mother?”

Akane points at you.

Damn it all.

The girl twirls her staff once, collapses it into itself to make it easier to carry, and walks up to you.

She spreads her arms and stares blankly at you.

“I love you, mother.”

You gape at her. She puffs out her cheeks. “You are expected to embrace me and tearfully give me a name, mother.”

Huh? Oh, right.

You laugh awkwardly and pull the girl into a hug, ruffling her long red-as-in-orange-this-time hair.

Wait, shit, you still don't know what to name her!
Or... do you?

Something is wrong. But... what? It's impossible to say, unless... maybe it isn't? What's impossible, anyways, in a city full of kids with crazy psychic powers? The word 'impossible' just seems... ignorant, now.

You are Takamichi Akari, and you've just awoken from a very strange dream.

Someone without your... 'predilection' to fire might have called it a nightmare.

For you, though, it was just bizarre and surreal.

Watching everything burn, you mean.

The fire was everywhere, and it never burned out.

It burned at the bottom of the ocean and on top of the clouds and even on the face of the moon.

The fire destroyed everything, consumed the world until the earth itself blazed like a second sun.

What started the fire?

>It was collateral damage. You were... fighting. Fighting something... big. Big and bad. A monster. You couldn't risk holding back, for fear of losing the fight. It was going pretty well until the unspeakable happened- until you won.

>It was beyond your control. You were... flying. You didn't start the fire, and it was already out of hand by the time you noticed it. Nothing you tried made any difference.

>It was an accident. You were... angry. Or maybe you were just afraid? Perhaps you were sad? Nervous? You can't really remember. You didn't mean to, you think- it just sort of... happened. You just looked up and realized what you had done.

>It was a bomb. You were... unaware. Nobody saw the war coming, and, by the time you realized what was happening, it was far too late to stop it.

>It was an invasion. You were... steadfast. You held them off as best you could, but there were just too many of them. It was a losing battle, but you stood your ground until the very end.

It probably influences how our Personal Reality is getting altered by our encounter with Innocentius.

Given that we chose the Steadfast option I'm guessing it'll make us difficult to stop and hurt. Maybe we can turn into fire and we just melt anything that tries to hit us.

The bomb/unaware one sounds like it would have improved sensory stuff, angry might have our emotions influence our fire, flying might have let us fly, fighting might have made us roast things to ashes better.
>>
>>33704015
Damn, now I really wish collateral damage had won. I want more straight-up burning power dammit!
>>
That's right.

It was an invasion.

All around the world, alien drop-pods fell from the sky. It happened without warning, and all at once.

Anti-Skill and a good number of espers tried to defend Academy City. You held off their bizarre and futuristic war machines for a long while, only to be overwhelmed when the aliens unleashed psychic powers of their own.

Unlike the rest of the faceless fighters that made up the resistance force, you managed to survive. Their weapons were terrifying and deadly, unleashing what you can only assume were bursts of superheated air.

They scythed your comrades down in droves, but the weapons proved ineffective against you, and your fire burned and blazed as if limitless- they were an unstoppable force, but you were an immovable object- and one rather determined to kick their chitinous asses at that.

As it became clearer and clearer that the aliens weren't going to be defeated, you
>Razed Academy City. If you couldn't defend it, you could at least ensure it didn't end up in their grubby hands. [You used sheer power to overwhelm them]
>Hunted them, harassing and ambushing them at every opportunity. [You used your powers cleverly to destroy them, one by one, on your own terms]
>Found their mothership in the night sky and superheated the damn thing until it was a heap of slag and corpses. [You lashed out at the source directly, denying them reinforcements and leaving them stranded on Earth- and, more importantly, trapped on the same planet as you.]

Thats gonna be a bit of a bother
once we go back on patrol. Most times we don't want to kill everything, so defending abilities would have been a lot more useful.

America doesn't want to kill everything, yet they have a massive nuclear stockpile.

Eh, it's not a huge loss really. Especially given the number of abilities in this verse that ignore any kind of physical defense. Killing them before they kill you is the only answer alot of the time.

You were too late to save anyone.

It didn't really matter all that much, anyways.

None of them had faces, after all.

You made your way to the top of the tallest building you could find and began incinerating the city, as well as the aliens within. Your heat rays caused most everything they touched to burst into flame on contact, if not shortly afterwords, and you found yourself improving in their use as you waged more and more destruction.

By the end, you had mastered them, you think. Each of your blasts packed a large amount of force, most of them causing more damage from the 'impact' than the burning heat itself.

Your heat rays, it could be said, were hitting like trucks.

By sundown, the city was little more than a burned-out ruin, half-charred and half-engulfed in flame.

You found the form of their mothership by chance, having just happened to glance up at the moon as the craft passed in front of it.

You were struck by a thought, an idea.

After all, as long as you can see it, you can burn it.

It was almost too easy, really, turning the hunk of green-gray metal into a glob of cherry red metal and sending it careening into the moon.

You didn't heat a single point on the accursed thing, either. No, you heated it in its entirety- or, at the very least, you heated every bit of it you could see.

Unfortunately, your heat-sense was blunted by the immense amount of fire and molten metal and stone that surrounded you. In addition to your ability to sense heat, you didn't burst into flames after you dragged yourself out of the smoking mess you made of your home city. You think that might be symbolic or something.

You open your eyes after a few more moments of introspection.
You're in what you can only assume is Mato's room, cradled in her arms, your head tucked under her chin. She's sleeping sitting up, supported by the headboard.

The sun is just barely peeking through the shutters on the window.

You gently extricate yourself from Mato's embrace and head for the door, your feet making little sound due to the carpet carpeting (what else would carpet do?) the floor.

The door slides open silently and on its own, which takes you slightly by surprise.

Is this the power of an idol's wealth?

'Cause that's pretty cool.

You step out into the hallway and through the nearest of the two doorless doorways, wondering if they're called 'doorways' if they don't actually have doors in them.

Maybe they're called passages or something?

You shrug, briefly wonder what happened last night, and blink twice as your mind registers the room you've blundered into as the kitchen.

Leave it to Mato-chan to have her bedroom directly across the hallway from the kitchen.

You quickly check the cabinets and refrigerator and freezer.

Holy crap!

Being rich must be wicked-awesome. You're pretty sure they've got everything you'd need to prepare just about anything here!

>What do you make?
>Do you serve Mato breakfast in bed?

Sorry if I made Akari seem a little random in her thoughts, there, I'm not a female, and, as I understand it, ladyfolk are always thinking about multiple things at once. I'm pointing this out because it felt pretty awkward this time.

Take two eggs, whisk with several dashes of fish sauce, add one to two tablespoons of cold rice. Fry in wide and shallow pan, flipping every a minute or two to ensure even cooking. Serve when both sides are browned.

Sunshine omelettes for the start of a bright, new and sunny day. Better than scrambled anyway.

You're just finishing the cooking of the last of the bacon when a pair of arms groggily wrap themselves around your waist.

Then, Mato buries her face in your neck and mumbles something about smelling food, before chewing on your shirt.

Actually, this isn't your shirt.

Did... did your clothes burn away last night?

The shirt is a simple white t-shirt that goes well with the simple black shorts that you're wearing.

The underwear you're wearing aren't yours.

You shudder a little at that, then bring Mato over to the table, where you present her with a full English breakfast to start her off.

She perks up immediately.

“You're the best, Akari!”

… Is what you think she said- her face was too busy being stuffed to properly relay the message.

You finish the preparation of the food quickly and take a seat opposite Mato.

She finishes her meal(s) before you finish yours, and gives her smooth, pale belly a rub as she leans back in her seat.

She squirms, slightly uncomfortable under your gaze. “Uh, Akari-chan? You're kinda... staring at me...”

Also, I'd prefer if you typed the same thing as any person you decide to second, then added your comments/thoughts, or, alternatively, if your post is just a link to theirs and something like 'this'.

You sweep your eyes up and down her smooth, flat stomach. She squirms more.

“A-Akari-chan...”

“Oh?” You wink. “Don't mind me. I'm just admiring.”

Her face is as red as that half-eaten tomato there.

You relent after a few moments more, returning to your food. “What happened last night, Mato-chan?”

She frowns slightly. “I was keeping Anti-Skill away like you said, then there was an explosion and a huge column of fire and we rushed to see what was going on. There was a spiky-haired guy- 'Kamijou' or something, I think- and a red-haired guy who was unconscious, with a nasty-looking black eye. Kamijou said you'd saved him from the fire thing and then passed out, and he'd punched red-head-guy into next week right after.

“Apparently, that fire thing was created by the red-head. Not sure of his ability or level, but it's a good thing you were there. Anti-Skill took Kamijou to the hospital for his burns, but the medic said you were okay, just 'tuckered out', and insisted I get you somewhere where you could get some bed-rest. I reported back to Mami on the phone while I carried you here, fell asleep, and, uh, you know the rest.”

Mato grins.

Why would she be dead?

She wasn't mentioned because Kamijou was trying to hide the existence of magic, because it's a secret! And also because the dorms probably don't allow students to keep nuns.

The only impact you've had on canon is that Innocentius was defeated a bit faster, and without having to use the sprinklers.
Stiyl got off with a warning and had to peel the tags off of the walls or something, I guess, because they couldn't really prove that anything had happened/that any of it was his fault.

So basically he and I guess Index got taken to the hospital. And I guess Touma will probably try and hide out at either Komoe's or Aogami's. Should work out the same probably.

You nod. You have ALL the questions. If you could bristle with questions, you would, and you'd look like a questionable porcupine! Or maybe an inquisitive bramble?

“Why'd you bring me to your place? I've never even been in here before.”

Mato shrugs. “It was closer than your place?”

“Does Nee-chan know I'm here?”

Mato laughs. “Of course she does. She's here all the time.”

“Huh? Why?”

Mato shrugs again. “I dunno. She spends a lotta time with Miku-neechan, though. They're probably going out or something, I guess? I think she works for Miku-neechan, or something, too- like a bodyguard type thing. I guess she might just be a really dedicated bodyguard, but I'm fairly certain they're sweet on each other.”

You blink, taken a bit aback. The bodyguard thing doesn't surprise you much. Nee-chan has all sorts of licenses for guns and stuff, and there's usually a bulletproof vest hanging on the coat rack.

Nee-chan has a girlfriend? A girlfriend who is almost certainly an extroverted idol?

… weird.

Speaking of weird...

“Whose clothes am I wearing right now, Mato-chan?”

“The shirt and shorts are mine, the underwear are some of Miku-neechan's hand-me-downs.”

You clear your throat. “And, um... how did I happen to become dressed in these particular articles of clothing, anyways?”

“Whaddya mean? I dressed you, obviously.”

You cough and sputter a little. That's embarrassing, Mato!

“I... I see.” You clear your throat again. Hopefully Mato won't think you've caught a cold from your sleeping arrangements last night. “So, Nee-chan is already here, then?”

Mato scratches her chin and thinks for a moment. “Well, she was here last night when we got here. I don't know if she spent the night or not, though.”

“Hnn. Alright, then, I guess. I don't know why she didn't just tell me, but she probably has her reasons, right?”

Mato nods. “Right!”
>>
>>33708785
>“Whaddya mean? I dressed you, obviously.”
Mato a lewd
>>
You chat with Mato for awhile longer (while you're doing dishes, mostly) before deciding to head towards Nee-chan's place. After all, you'll need to change into something a little... more... well, just more, you suppose.

You tell Mato about your dream, and she tells you that your Personal Reality has probably changed significantly as a result of... whatever the hell one would call the events that transpired last night.

Mato explains that the red-head guy from last night didn't seem to be an esper, but that might have been something Kamijou did- apparently, his hand can negate abilities. If red-head-guy's fire monster was his ability, and he believed it to be invincible, then maybe the combined shock of watching it get obliterated and being punched with Kamijou's anti-ability hand caused him to 'lose' his power.

You've never heard of a power like that, but, hey, that doesn't mean a whole lot. A wise video game character once said, 'One sure mark of a fool is to dismiss anything that falls outside of his experience as being impossible.'

Before you know it, you're home, and looking through your closet.

Mato observes interestedly.

>What do you wear? You have just about anything and everything... well, except for a suit.

I'm thinking I'll just handwave it until the time comes to actually go back to school, yanno?
We'll say you'd applied there during the exams, which we conveniently time-skipped over.

Now, as Akari is a good and reasonable girl, allow me to ask a question.

Are you sure you can make it without ruining this uniform?
Is it worth the risk?
I don't want you guys to make a choice that could get you in trouble in the future without being aware of it first.
Your first day was kinda insane, who's to say the second won't be just as crazy?

>>

If anything happens, I'm sure we can afford a replacement, and that assumes today is even going to be crazy at all. Besides, maybe our middle school has a policy like Tokiwadai's, in which case we're getting used to it ahead of time.
>>
>>33709186
Just wear normal, not uniform clothes.
>>
>>33709186
Are we going to Tokiwadai perhaps? Even before we powered up we met their requirements as a level 3. I'm worried we might run into canon too often though.

>>33709264
I was thinking I'd offer you guys the choice of going to Tokiwadai if you wanted to- Akari's a fantastic student, after all- but I'm slightly worried about canon shenanigans. Tokiwadai seems like it's a damn big school, though, so I'm sure I could deal with it.

The dorms are done by year (Kuroko only got Misaka as a roommate because of shenanigans) and it is a huge place.

Just have it so that Misaka/Kuroko/Kongou/Misaki are off doing other things or in other areas of the grounds separate from Akari. Shouldn't even be that hard considering she'd be just starting and they'd be in their final year (well, except for Kuroko).

I mean a high level can hypothetically go there, since Mikoto is planning on taking the entrance exams, they just generally don't because it sucks compared to high level schools.
>>
>>33709311
Akari must go to school with Mato, and Mato doesn't seem like the Tokiwadai type.

Sure there are. Supposedly there are 5 "really good" ones, of which Tokidawai and Nagatenjouki (Accelerator's school on paper) are among.

Accel was going to go there, but he got transferred to Nagatenjouki instead.

I don't think Saten and Uiharu have ever had any plans to go there, unless it was some anime filler stuff.

You quickly shed your borrowed clothes and switch into your own, electing to don next year's uniform.

Mato, who you had forgotten was watching, reminds you of her presence by asking, “Do you really want to be fighting thugs, running around, and doing god-knows-what-else in a skirt that... short?”

You try not to look at her or dignify that with a response, given you were just naked in front of her without even realizing it (at least you were facing away from her, so she didn't see anything too... private). Still, she has a point, so you pull on a pair of spats as well.

Mato snickers as you turn around. “You forgot I was here, didn't you?”

You nod. “You could have said something!”

“I didn't peek. Promise!”

She peeked, didn't she?

Well, whatever. You need another armband for today's patrol, so you need to head back to Branch 90's office and get one. You're still early, but you never know what sort of delays might pop up if you don't do it now.

You should also probably tell Steve about your possible power-up. He can have you go through another test to measure your abilities, after all, and making progress so quickly is sure to impress him.

What do you do? You really only have time to do one before going on patrol, and that's assuming the researchers don't want to, yanno, do research or something.

You make hideously good time and reach the office in the blink of an eye. You open the door and step inside to see Mami and the Twins doing some sort of research or analysis or something.

Mami gestures at the coffee table, where a new armband sits. “Your armband is on the table, darling. This one should be a good deal more resistant to fire.” She turns and smiles at you. “I apologize for my lack of foresight in not fireproofing the first one. I don't know what I was thinking.”

You take Mato's hand and make your way towards the Strange once more.

This time, Mato manages to keep the same pace as you, which is pretty nice.

You're not even half-way to your destination when a little boy tugs on your skirt, tears in his eyes and everything.

“I can't find my mommy!”

You blink. You're not really sure what to do in this kind of situation. “Uh... what does she look like?”

“She's a grown-up! She's tall and pretty and she wears a skirt!”

… This isn't going to be nearly as easy as you'd like it to be, is it?

Mato, as good with kids as ever, scoops the child up and says all kinds of reassuring stuff to him- 'We'll find your mommy' and 'Shhh shhh shhh, everything's gonna be okay' and such.

You think for a moment or two before an idea hits you.

“Do you know your mom's phone number?”

The kid looks at you, blinks, and nods. He pulls out a phone and calls his mother.

The relief in his voice as he converses with her over the phone is quite evident.

The two of you wait with him while his mother comes and finds you.

Like he said, his mother was... very grown-up. Tall and pretty, too. You're not too sure if what she's wearing is a skirt, though you might just be crazy.

He hugs Mato's legs, then your legs, then his foxy mother's legs.

“Thank you, Judgment nee-chans!”

Before long, you're on your way towards the Strange again.

After awhile, Mato speaks the thought that's obviously on both of your minds. “I didn't know mothers could look like that.”

You nod. “I didn't realize breasts could be so... perfect.”

“I know, right? I thought Mami's were glorious, but those... I feel like I should have given her a medal or a trophy or something.”

Thus, you entered the Strange, a discussion about a stranger's perfect bosom flowing back and forth between the two of you.

Aaaaand I think that's a perfectly reasonable stopping point for today.
Be sure to give the archived thread a vote on sup/tg/! (I think threads with a low enough rating get deleted, and that'd suck)

I'm burnin' out here, maaaan.

Again, I'd like to apologize about not running on Friday. I think I might run Tuesday, assuming nothing crazy happens and I don't get sick between now and then. If I don't run Tuesday, I'll aim for Wednesday.

If I don't run on Tuesday OR Wednesday, call me all sorts of strange names until I come around!

Also, roll 2d6!

Absolutely based, this result has lurked in the darkness for far too long, and we haven't even had real fight yet!
NO LONGER!

Akari is going to ruin someone's day. She just got a powerup and needs a chance to test things out.
>>
>>33711122
Be nice! He got the best result!

>>33711111
Yeah! I felt like she needed some sort of distinguishing trait.
I figured the double crits could also have a delayed effect.

Or do like Ume Aoki and thank her.

Wait, double ones is the best result? Wasn't expecting that. Carry on then!

Well, 'best' is a matter of opinion.

Let's just say that the ones will be back soon, and in greater numbers.

What is the chip actually doing? Power limiter?
>>
>>33711477
>Hence, the chip. Nothing too fancy, just a few basic safeties- kinda like a power limiter or something. Should keep her from accidentally melting stuff around her every time she gets all 'fired up', though it'll probably mess up her heat-sense thing, too, but that seemed like it was messed up anyways. I figured that was an acceptable trade-off.”
That is what she said, yes.
>>
Rolled 3, 4 = 7

>>33711514
It sounds like its supposed to prevent "spikes" more than really limiting her. So, I don't think it makes her any weaker, might cause a bit of a lag.
>>
>>33711263
Are you going to make a little power capability pic, maybe like the thing like Bored uses for ACACQ? Maybe have little abstract ranking things to show proficiency between different things without actually giving hard numbers?

>Level 3(4?)
>Spontaneous Ignition [A]
>Heat beams [A]
>Fireball [B]
>Flamethrower [C]
>Heat Sense [D]
Rankings I just pulled out of my ass, they're probably off or something.
>>
>>33711514
I'm guessing that it's a temporary measure meant to help us adjust to a sudden transition in power. It keeps us from melting things we'd rather not melt and losing control. But we'll be able to manage without it once we acclimate and practice more.
>>
>>33711612
That would hinder creative usage a bit, unless you take really broad categories.
Like, for example, if we wanted to use our heat to push someone away using the rapidly expanding air, like how our heat ray in the dream exerted more force than heat.
>>
All I can say about the chip is that I don't like it. The second there's even the slightest IC justification to burn Miku, I'm pushing for it.
>>
>>33711687
For trying to help us not destroy everything around us in a emotional outburst ?
>>
>>33711705
For implanting a chip in someone's head without saying a single thing to them about it.
>>
>>33711739
Why would she need to mention it? All that would do is scare Akari.
>>
>>33711739
In her defense, anon, she probably didn't want to wake you up, and you've never actually met her- you don't know about her ability, either, and she'd prefer to keep it that way.

I'm not the type of QM to impose a serious restriction on my players without giving them a chance/option to stop it and making it clear what that option is. If I had been worried about it, I would've started the thread with an option from Miku's PoV- >chip=yes or >chip=no

Also, Miku may have been getting laid at the time that you were waking up and eating breakfast.

>>33711597
>>33711662
>>33711705
Basically, the chip dulls down your heat sense (though it was already pretty much shot from hugging Innocentius) and keeps you from subconsciously using your powers.

So you won't explode when you get angry or wake up in the morning three floors below your bed because you melted through it.

I wouldn't say any of the basic abilities are more 'powerful' than any of their peers.

Fireball and Flamethrower are best for combat, with different potential applications/ups/downs, Spontaneous Ignition is the best for burning/melting things or acting unseen, and Heat Sense is the best for, y'know, sensing heat.

I will say this- Flamethrower would be the power you've improved the most- it started out as your 'strongest', and Komoe-sensei and burninating the city with it (and its upgrade, HEAT RAYS) really helped it along.

Your Heat Rays are a good ways towards their PROJECTED LVL 5 POTENTIAL, which in no way accurately estimates your actual upper limits on specific things.

Spontaneous Ignition is your second most improved, and your ballsy moves during the dream have ranked it up to the point where the size limit of things you can burninate is obscene.

Had you selected GORILLA WARFARE, you would have learned how to do tricksy stuff with your fireballs, like creating them at the target instead of having to throw them and/or shaping their blasts.

Um, what else is there...?

Selecting the invasion dream basically gave you unlimited 'energy'- meaning you won't ever 'run out of juice' for your abilities -like Misaka did in the manga- and an indomitable will. Each dream option had things it influenced- the 'accident' choice was basically super-power in exchange for no control; you'd have been a level 5-tier in sheer power, and a level 1-tier in terms of control.
Etc., etc..
>>
>>33713171
What would the bomb have been?
>>
>>33713403
You would have learned how to survive most anything by shielding yourself with fire/extreme heat, and you might have developed a fear of explosions and turned your fireballs into something else. Your control would have become excellent in exchange for a huge dip in potential power.

Most of the changes available were fairly vague and freeform, hence my willingness to accept write-ins.

Honestly, I don't like how serious it got there, but I really was stumped for ways to do it less 'seriously'.
>>
>>33713509

So invasion was pretty top-notch in terms of potential choices?
>>
>>33713509
>You would have learned how to survive most anything by shielding yourself with fire/extreme heat, and you might have developed a fear of explosions and turned your fireballs into something else. Your control would have become excellent in exchange for a huge dip in potential power.
Would that have been passive/automatic defense or not? Because automatic power use defense things are really big deals.
>>
>>33713171
>Selecting the invasion dream basically gave you unlimited 'energy'- meaning you won't ever 'run out of juice' for your abilities -like Misaka did in the manga- and an indomitable will.
Wow. So we could, like, theoretically, blast heat beams at the ground until it bored down into the center of the earth? Or at the very least make a lava swimming pool?
>>
>>33713509
Does Akari have enough control with either the heat beams or the spontaneous ignition to melt the road under someone to hinder their movement? Like if there was a group of really pissed off skill-outs who wanted to raise hell, could she just melt the asphalt under them to make em all stuck?
>>
>>33713546
You could say that, I suppose.

Choosing flying would've netted you the ability to fly all Iron Man style, and amped up your heat rays a bit more as well, in exchange for messing with your head a bit.

Collateral damage would've netted you more offensive fireballs choices for various combat applications of your powers.

>>33713585
Depends on the attack- you'd mostly only be able to 'block' physical attacks, and it'd only be because you'd incinerate whatever happened to be coming your way the moment it came within range.

>>33713607
Theoretically, I guess. It's more an endurance kind of thing, though.

You never give up. Ever.

You're like Rocky, if Rocky was a 12-year-old girl fighting russian dudes with SUPERPOWERS.

>>33713644
You've had the ability to do that for a long time now- asphault gets all melty and sticky real easy- haven't you ever had your shoes get stuck to the asphault on a hot day?
The beams, though, are too much. You'd blow the ground up before you melted it.
>>
>>33713690
>You're like Rocky, if Rocky was a 12-year-old girl fighting russian dudes with SUPERPOWERS.
Kyril shenanigans confirmed?
>>

No, I just always forget the name of that russian guy in Rocky IV
Is it Ivan Drago or something?

I don't remember, man.

>You've had the ability to do that for a long time now- asphault gets all melty and sticky real easy- haven't you ever had your shoes get stuck to the asphault on a hot day?
>The beams, though, are too much. You'd blow the ground up before you melted it.
So, just confirming here, but it would be the spontaneous ignition thing to do that, right?

Also, can the beams be used to 'rocket' jump?

OOOOH! Just had an awesome idea.

>Use fireball jump to go airborn
>Launch fireballs behind us
>Shoot the fireballs with the heat beams to detonate them
>Continuously surf the explosions across the sky
>>
>>33713807
I suppose if you really wanted to, you could use the beams like rockets- no jumping required.

Of course, you'd absolutely obliterate anything below/behind you. You didn't dream of flying, so you don't have that version of Heat Ray- learning it would take a lot of effort, given it's pretty much the opposite of your current version.

You can probably detonate your fireballs as you please, now. You'll have to try it and find out, obviously.

I wouldn't think Akari would like the idea of flying with fireballs, though. Seems kinda hare-brained, and constantly being buffeted by shockwaves can't be pleasant.
>>
>>33713880
Ok. Even if you don't like the idea of an abstract ability proficiency/powerlevel chart, you really need to have a list of various traits/attributes/capabilities on things we can do. Especially when they're not immediately obvious.

Nobody is going to read "she can throw fireballs" and immediately think that they can be airbursted or that they have explosive force. Same thing for the heat beams; it seems incredibly counter-intuitive that they project force on top of the hot.
>>
>>33713964
What I'm going for is a sort of 'you have to try it and see for yourself' sort of thing.
Whenever you go to the researchers and get tested, they'll provide you a list of what you can do, and I'll probably have the option to ask about other possibilities and such.

There'll also be more study sessions with Komoe, should you want to take them, as well as books and other things you can use for inspiration.

There's plenty of people to meet and plenty of things to see and learn, believe me.

I'm considering a chart of some sort, but I'll need to think on it more. I'm not usually very good with visual aids.

The heat rays exert force because they basically involve agitating the air in front of your hand and then agitating the air in front of that air and so on and so forth. The force is just a side-effect of gaining more control and more 'precisely' agitating the particles.
It's also to do with the shift in Personal Reality- Akari doesn't quite understand how things work anymore- on a subconscious level moreso than anything else.
