Alouette and Louie stand in the little clearing you've arrived in. Beyong them, the forest path leading to the rest of the living dungeon is waiting for you. The smug little smirk on Alouette's face gives you a foreboding feeling about how this little adventure of yours might proceed. Still, you push those thoughts aside and mentally prepare yourself to delve into the wooded maze stretching out ahead of you.

>Focus on the adventure at hand, take the lead?

Racketeer Ques! Fuck yeah!

>Let Alouette lead the way and watch how she works

>Other:Look out for Cailloou's mushrooms and collect them discretly, the maximum you can.

I thought you died from work related injuries.

>Focus on the adventure at hand, take the lead?
>>
>>34104430
Hey, Kaleun, I have one question: do we still have the pieces of furnitures form what the shop sold before it was left in our care?

Because if we do, we could give some to Elan as a complementary payment. I'm sure he would be glad to get some decent furnitures along with some money.
>>
>>34104483
Didn't we say we'd let Alouette lead to make up for destroying her previous set of adventurers?
>>
>>34104527
Did we? I must have forgot if so.
>>
>>34104533
" "That was an accident, actually. I was calling for help and assumed you'd brought competent fighters for a dangerous adventure like that! And even then, I can hardly just give over my own people for a dungeon mission. Oh, I know! How about you tag along the next time I go? We usually find more than we can carry, so we could split the loot?"

She frowns, regarding you closely. "Hmm. So long as I get first choice of all the loot we find, then... I suppose this is acceptable. First thing tomorrow morning, then! We shall go to the dungeon together!" "

Well, we didn't in fact told her she'd lead the thing.

Sorry, I misremembered.
>>
>>34104515
You do indeed. This is a viable option.

Can we get something resembling a consensus up in here?
>>
>>34104619
I change my vote here >>34104462

Alouette opens her mouth when you get close, clearly ready to make another jibe at how she's better than you at this. You don't give her the chance to voice the thought, quickly taking charge.

"Okay! Louie, take the lead since you have a shield. Elan, stay behind him and help him out if he needs it. Alouette, we'll look out for the loot. Alright, let's go!"
Alouette pouts at your energetic orders, while Louie and Elan quickly move to follow them.

The first part of the trip is easy enough. Louie keeps his shield up against the few critters that bother to attack. Elan punches them in the face if they look like they're going to get around him. You're actually making pretty rapid time with two adventurers working together. The way the two of them fight, it's like two kindred spirits. You watch with fascination how they utter almost no words to each other apart from what they need to, Elan automatically moving to where Louie wants him to be with no signalling between them.

Finally, you come across a treasure chest in an open area. Alouette runs up behind Louie as he starts to open the chest, looking inside with excited eyes. You agreed to give her first pick, so you ignore the chest and instead look around the area. Then you see something you were looking for. The little path to your left, just away from the path you came in from, has a little patch of mushrooms growing on the overhang, in the shade of the thick trees.
Elan is keeping watch over the clearing while Louie and Alouette are distracted with the chest.

>Go grab the mushrooms?
>Get Elan to grab them for you?
>Wait and bring the others, pick them together?
>Other?
>>
>>34104765
>>Other: Carefully looks around, and if there is nothing suspicious go grab the mushrooms

So I vote that we give 10% of the monetary gain of this adventure to Elan + a few pieces of furnitures of his choosing, 20% to Euria as insentive to stick with us and the remaining 70% to Charme for her excelente dungeon run the other day and her wages. The money we make from the 'shroom goes to pay the debt.

You walk up to the edge of the path and carefully run your eye over every nook and crevice. You can't see anything out of the ordinary, and nothing seems to be moving. Right, this should be fine then. It's just a few paces away.
You step onto the path, and the world swirls around you as a heavy wind suddenly picks up and rushes in a vortex around you. You can feel your skirt being whipped around you, the wind spinning you on the spot. You try to dig your feet into the ground but your shoes just gouge a hole into the earth beneath you. Elan is rushing towards you, shouting something but you can't make him out. Wait? He said wait? Something else, he's gesturing.

And then the wind stops as suddenly as it started. You're standing in an empty clearing. Four paths lead in each direction of the compass. You can't see the others.

>>34104917
Elan told you to wait. So just wait. You have an invulnerability field, stupid girl.
>>
>>34104917
You spin about in a circle, looking everywhere and preparing to flail your arms in a panic. Then you realize just how fast you're breathing. Calm down, Recette! Calm! You've got this shiny new invulnerability field from the Adventurer's Guild and Elan told you to wait. He's surely coming for you, right?

You start pacing around the clearing while looking down each path to see what's around. One of them bends away and you can't see what's beyond the corner. The next is a short walk to a treasure chest. The third is a dead end and the fourth... leads to another clearing a little way ahead. In the clearing, you can see the outline of one of the standing doors that leads back to town, alongside the blue magic circle than will teleport you deeper into the dungeon.

>?
>>
>>34105096
>Keep waiting. See if there is anything in the clearing you're in.

Come on, this isn't our first dungeon
>>
>>34105112
Now that I think of it, the path with the treasure chest will probably bring us back to the others. But better examine were we are first.
>>
>>34105096
>Keep waiting, Elan Or was it Nale told us to wait
>>
>>34105096
>Stay calm, and alert.
No point going anywhere.
>>
And if they still don't come to us after this we'll go through the treasure chest path, ok?
>>
>>34105096
You keep the circling up and continue around the clearing again, this time focusing your attention inwards. Which turns out to be a boon when you spot some mushrooms concealed under a few fallen leaves! You quickly pocket them before continuing the circle. You can now definitely confirm that the clearing is empty of anything else noteworthy.

You wait for a little while longer. After another minute or so, a time that feels like forever when you're so vulnerable and alone like this, you can hear something on the path towards the corner. Sort of like the sounds of fighting. That must be everyone else finally catching up to you, right?!

>Head towards the sounds?
>Wait here for them to arrive?

>>34105294

we could end up separated from them until the end of the day, and then fight Tielle in the night. If she has night-vision, we are screwed.
>>
>>34105294
>>Wait here for them to arrive?
>>
>>34105294
You decide to stay where you are and wait for them to find you. While you wait, you examine where the mushrooms were growing. They were in a very similar-looking place to the first bunch you saw, at the foot of the treeline, clinging to the loose wet dirt by the side of the pathway and hidden from direct sunlight. You guess you have an idea where to look for any more now.
The sounds of fighting grow fainter, and you perk up, struggling to hear what was just a few moments ago a raucous clashing. It's moving away from you now, quite quickly.

Frowning, you take off in the direction of the fighting. Where are they going? You're over here! Are they lost, looking for you somewhere else? Did they get scared off? You don't know, but you mean to find out. You follow the path to the corner and find another clearing ahead. There are signs of something having happened here, judging by the way the dirt is torn up all over the clearing and the place is littered with old, rusted weapons and skeleton bones. There's only one other exit to the clearing, so you rush to it and follow the path further around. There! You can hear the fighting again. You take a left and come upon a group in the middle of a desperate battle in the path.

It's... men in suits???

Three rough-looking men in nice suits are currently brawling with four skeleton warriors. It looks like they're losing badly and getting pushed back. The skeletons are pretty much ignoring the hits on their ribs and limbs, while the men are bleeding from lots of little cuts all over them.

You don't recognize any of the men, and they don't seem to have the same pattern of tie color and other accessories you've started to notice that all of Terme's men have.

>?
>>
>>34105959
Show them the way to the exit. While they might be hostile in the future, we can still aid them now.

>Call them and wave your hand to attract their attention, then sign them to follow through where you came from. Return to the clearing, wait for them a little, then go through the treasure chest path
>>
>>34105959
You call out to the men, waving frantically. "HEY! Heeey!" One of the men, a guy with a wicked scar over one eye, notices you. "This way! The exit is this way!" You gesture behind you. He nods, then looks to his friends and says something.

Together, they roll and dodge past the skeletons. One of them gets caught by a brutal back-hand that slices his face clean in two. The other two ignore his cries and run towards you, leaving their friend to a grisly demise as two of the skeletons converge on his screaming, prone form.

Not even slowing, they blow past you at a full sprint back towards the clearing you came from, the other two skeletons chasing after their fleeing opponents. You push yourself hard to keep up with them, and end up completely out of breath and sweating buckets. When you come into sight of the exit, both skeletons suddenly give up and wander off back to the first clearing they originated from.
The two men stop to regard you finally.
"Yo. Thanks fer the save, kid. We owe ya one. Guess we'll 'ave to tell the old geezer we ain't cut out fer adventurin'."

They turn away, ready to depart. But before the scarred guy can open the Go Home door, you stop him with a word. "Wait! There's a treasure chest back there I wanted to check out. Would you open it for me before you go?"

The two look at you strangely. "This some sort o' trap or somethin'?"

"I- I don't know," you tell them honestly. "Which is why I was hoping you guys would help me with it."

The second guy looks to scar, who sighs. "Fine, let's do it quick. Then we goin' home."

You smile happily at them. As you walk the short distance back, you take a moment to ask them some questions. "So what were you doing here, and who's the 'old geezer'?"

The scarred one grimaces at that. "He's a greedy git, that's who. Wanted to increase profits by sendin' us, 'stead o' real adventurers. We ain't cut out fer this."

The other guy chimes in, "I don't see why we need ta go this far anyway. We're already stealin' Terme's business with th-" He's silenced by a smack to the head.

"Heheh, ignore that idiot," scar tells you with a forced smile.

You get to the chest moments later, and scar gets the other guy to open it for you. When he sees what's inside, he freezes. "Hey, hey. Look a' this."
Scar leans in to see.

"Huh. Well, we'll be keepin' this one, kid." He reaches in and pulls out a beautiful looking statue of a cat with bright green jewels for eyes wearing a fine white suit with a top hat and cane in his hands.
It looks valuable...

The two freeze. They look between each other and you, assessing their options.
"If you come back to my store, you could sell it to me instead and we can all make a profit. What do you say?"

Scar frowns. The other guy looks at him. "What d'you think, man? Sounds like a good deal to me." Scar smack him across the head.

"Yeah? An' what if 'e finds out we sold the loot? This is his loot. We can't jus sell it to some little girl! Ain't no way he'd let us live."

"O-oh, yeah. Right."

Scar stands for a few moments, jiggling the statue in his hands while he thinks. "Tell ya what, we can't risk bein' seen with it outside this place, right? But if ya buy it now, no-one ever needs to know we had it. So, if ya gimme twenty large right now, you can take it an' go. Fair deal?"

>>34107170
"Ten," you respond after a moment. "It'll be too much hassle for you to take it out of the dungeon, right? So I'm your only option."

"Fifteen," he quickly tries to haggle you back up.

You pause, as if debating the number. "Ten now and five later," you offer. "You can stop by my store later to pick up the rest."

Scar's face twists into a snarl. "A'ight, fine. But if ya try an' play us, I'ma split yer pretty face down the middle. Got it?"

You nod, smiling. "I'm Recette, by the way. Of Recettear, the item shop."

He pauses. "Yeah, I know the place." He hands you the statue, you hand him ten of the hundred thousand you've taken to keeping on your person. You're careful not to show him just how much you're carrying or he might get funny.

You pocket the statue and he pockets his money. Then a voice cuts through your deal. "Michael? Saunders? What are you two doing here?"

"Ah, my Lady!" They both instantly drop into a deep bow and Aloutte walks into the clearing, followed by Louie and Elan. "We were just on an errand for your Father. Please, do not mind us." Wow, their voices have changed completely! He's speaking all proper-like!

"And errand... in here?" Her head tilts, showing her confusion.

"This young madam has provided assistance and our task is now complete. With you leave, we shall depart."

She nods blankly, and the two men quickly scurry away. Huh. Well, you're now regrouped with the others at least. And judging by the sweat on Louie and Elan's faces, they had a tough time getting this far. Though they aren't breathing too hard. Alouette also seems to have a fairly full bag of loot.

Fucking nailed it.

We keep her alive and we bro it up with her and we will have a fucking powerful ally to call on later, she will make us more profit in the long term if she's alive and friendly than if we're shortsighted idiots and shank her.

She already helped us at least once with the inquisitor. Likely not the only time either. The thing about Alouette is, she is seemingly being played out basically the same as vidya Alouette. In the open, she'll challenge you, insult you, and possibly even strike the occasional blow at you, but at the same time she'll help you out indirectly in whatever way as long as it doesn't look like she's helping you to anyone else.

So stay the course, be nice to her and let her pretend to hate you in public and she'll be your friend when you need it the most. Probably.

Ehh, consider that an extremely desperate measure if everything else that could ever go wrong in our life goes even worse than that. Because those are the kind of people who do kidnappings, you know. Desperate people with no better options left.

I think as a general rule, right now you should not be looking at options that escalate the conflict between Terme and whatever Alouettes father is called. We don't know any of the details of the conflict or whether it's good or bad for us, but what's definitely bad for us is sticking our head out of the trenches. So try to avoid making enemies and when possible, make friends.

You look to the two adventurers. "Are you two okay? Do you need a rest?" Louie shakes his head, Elan laughs heartily.

"It'd take more than that to wear out true fighters like us!" Louie flexes his grip on his sword, nodding his agreement.

"Great," you beam. "Also what took you guys so long? I was starting to think you weren't coming!"

Elan scratches the back of his head. "Hah, well ya see, we kind of had no idea where you'd gone, so we had to map out the entire dungeon level. Alouette here was really worried we wouldn't find you in time, so we ran this whole thing.

Alouette's cheeks turn bright pink. "O-only because you still owe me. It would be unseemly to allow a plebeian to perish while trying to repay me."

You ignore her attempts to play it down. "Really? I'm sorry for worrying you, Alouette!" She looks away.

"Anyway," Louie sounds off. "We're ready to carry on if you are."

Together, the four of you head over to the portal and jump to the next area of the dungeon. When the bright light of the teleport subsides, you find yourselves standing on a sturdy-looking wooden bridge suspended between gigantic trees, bigger than any you've ever seen.
Following your first instinct, you look down. And immediately regret it. You stumble back away from the sides of the bridge, Elan quickly catching you before you lose your footing.

Go on ahead and find out what's out there. If you find anything worth fighting, run back to us and let Louie know what it is. We shall stay behind you."

Elan looks to you awkwardly. You shrug. He sighs and sets off at a light jog along the wooden bridge. It sways precariously under his movement, causing him to zig-zag along the bridge in time to its swinging.

Louie sets off at a steady walk after him with Alouette close behind him. You follow on a few steps behind them both. A little ways ahead, the bridge comes out onto a wooden platform supported in the trees with a few bridges leading out in various directions. You wait for a little while before Elan appears once more, clearly out of breath to tell Alouette which direction looks best to go in to get loot and easy enemies.

She takes in the information and orders Louie onward without so much as a word of thanks to Elan.

Louie and Alouette march past Elan, who's stopped to try and catch his breath. As you pass, you pause for a moment and wait for him. "Thanks for scouting for us, Elan."

He smiles back, "don't mention it."
After a few seconds of heavy breathing, he gets himself under control and the two of you hurry to catch up to Alouette, who is already on the next platform watching Louie smash his way through a collection of critters that you quietly think to yourself probably didn't need to be fought in the first place. Once Louie has finished backing an adorable little fluffy bunny into a corner and butchering it, he stops to take a breath and Alouette prances into the center of the wooden platform and opens the chest, tossing whatever the prize was into her bag. "Adventurer!" Elan walks on over to her. "Scout the next area!"

"Sure, sure."

This goes on for a few more platforms. You can't help but notice the time passing ever so gradually as she has Elan carefully map the area for her then uses Louie to smash through the weakest defended areas to get to treasure chests, systematically annihilating every living thing in the area before moving on.

Finally, you approach a platform that catches your attention. This one is bigger than the others, way bigger. With large wooden barricades and structures lining many angles across the pathway. You can't help but feel this is an obvious ambush.
Alouette, apparently oblivious or simply uncaring, once more orders Elan on ahead.

"Wait!" You stop Elan before he moves. "You see those barriers and stuff ahead?" You point where you're looking and everyone follows. "Doesn't that look odd to you guys? It's like someone set this up, they could attack us from anywhere!"

A pause.
"That's true," Louie agrees. "But we've gotta go through this way anyway. See? That's the exit over there." He points with his sword right down the middle of the path and sure enough the portal stands on the far side of the narrow pathway ahead.
"I'll go first," he offers. "My shield should be able to survive anything they throw at us until we can counter it." Steeling himself, he steps on into the killing zone.
When nothing happens, you all step in after him.

As soon as you cross the threshold onto the larger platform, you notice a small figure cowering near on of the barricades.
"Hey look, it's a little girl over there. Heyyy!"

Startled by your voice, the little girl jumps to her feet and spins to face you.

You look at her. She looks at you.

"Humans," she mutters to herself. "S-stay away! AWAY!" She pulls a bow from her side, knocks an arrow and fires as if in pure reflex.

Elan curses and dives to one side while Louie immediately brings his shield up. The arrows smashes into his shield, knocking him off his feet. "LOUIE!" Alouette's voice cuts through your ear as she screams beside you. He hits the ground with a gasp but seems to be unhurt.

The girl has already disappeared from your sight behind one of the barricades between you and the exit. Well that's just great.

>>
I can't tell if the thread is over or not.
>>
>>34111734
I don't think the game ever goes that far. Griff does claim humans are oppressing everyone else, but I'm pretty sure anything like genocide is never mentioned. Of course I never finished ALL the dungeons so I can't say for sure.
>>
>>34111943
Well given what the fae did to themselves to survive it must have been pretty brutal then to be non human

Hell the whole thing with the dungeon is that it one of the few supplies for magical left in the world right?
>>
>>34111933
I think so, that image usually means so, but Kal' hasn't popped up to say so, so... Assume what you want?

Can't drug elves. They're resistant to that. But you can offer them candy. Tielle will be in your van faster than you can say profit.

>>34111996
I uh, I'm not sure what you're saying the fairies did to themselves, other than attempt to integrate into human societies. Unless we stopped talking about the vidya version and started talking about racketeer again.
>>
>>34112081
Yea in the game the fae create fairy's like tear to avoid be finished off by humanity and allowed them to be used as slaves for a peace treaty in the game
>>
Yea that's why it was an important point that Prime is a free fairy because she went kinda renegade and never went back to be assigned a new owner

Unfortunately the thread is indeed over for tonight.

However, I did promise a double dose to make up for missing last week. Therefore, I aim to run a second thread through tomorrow. Or carry on here, if it's still live. Whichever.

Either way, thanks everyone for reading. I'm seriously lucky to have such patient players!

I'll be around a little longer for Q&A but I need to drop out soon, stuff to do and all.
>>
The game backstory was always dark but it never really came up when you got into the vibe of managing the store and occasional dungeon run

Had plenty of material if you just connect some dots and bring certain issues to the forefront like the gm did
>>
>>34112081
>Unless we stopped talking about the vidya version
The vidya version of fae were seen as a nuisance and pest by humanity, so they were hunted nearly to extinction. They currently live in self-imposed exile, completely separated from humanity. The only fairies permitted to interact with humans are the ones who are rigorously bred and trained to be the perfect assistants to humanity, and to have impeccable manners and social graces so as never to end up insulting or provoking their human hosts.

This way, they hoped that humans would see only the immeasurably useful fairies and decide that the fae could be allowed to continue to exist as a race.

The game was bleak as fuck. The only thing I've done is bring what is suggested in the background to the fore of attention.
>>
>>34112359

>How many 'shroom did we get, in total?
You managed to pick a number that I will make up right now that is exactly equal to however many it was that I said Caillou wanted.
>>
>>34112587
Thats the thing

It had such a carefree and happy attitude when playing it that people just would not remember all the stuff being said about the backstory

It wasnt till I started to read this quest that I remember most of this happened in game and the gm made only minor changes in all
>>
>>34112601
Oh man, how lucky of us to get a number that you just made up right now that is exactly equal to however many it was that you said Caillou wanted. But Recette is a master gatherer after all.
>>
>>34112670
It seems to be a common thing. A nice saccharine-sweet world that has some horribly dark backstory that is always hinted at but never explained. Somehow that is worse since you have to make up your own thoughts on the background and you can run away with that to some really dark places.
>>
>>34112670
Well, Kaleun did pour a good ammount of ice-cold logic on the setting. And dimmed the light tone that made the player blinds to the implications.

Such explaining why Daddy Lemongrass was lynched by mobsters
>>
>>34112736
Yep made things a hell lot more sense

And the 3 way fight between factions over control of the dungeon a hell lot more interesting than what was in the game
>>
>>34112736
>>34112848
>>34112587
In the game terme wins either way,

He gets cash and info on the how the dungeon works or

He get another store added to his franchise and info on the how the dungeon works

But that was all for how the story went

I mean it works cause the game play is addictive as hell and doubt anyone even noticed

So yeah the gm had chosen a good game to expand plot wise cause it had a lot of underused material that could never be used in the game itself
>>
>>34112670
Well I don't recognize it at all. I assume it's somewhere in the obsidian tower? I never bothered to finish that or the dungeons after it since I got bored with farming dungeons around that point.

>>34112736
Are you going to tell me that actually happened in the game as well now? Just how much did I miss out on by not trudging through hundred-level dungeons?
>>
>>34113023
Dude it was never in the dungeons

Only in the conversations with characters and events they brought up

If you just focused on the shop and dungeons then you would never find this stuff,

You had to go into town to check for any events to interact with the other characters cause this helped gain access to some of the harder to get ones
>>
>>34113092
The game was kinda like persona in a way

You had the main store then the dungeons and finally the social events you had catch cause they were easy to miss and only happen for a set time
>>
>>34113092
Bad wording on my side. I should have said around obsidian tower, I didn't mean literally inside it. Beating dungeons unlocks characters and cutscenes, right? That's what I'm talking about..
>>
>>34113278
Yea pretty much got a majority of the chars from the dungeon fixed events

But any back story came from the social events that were timed and had specific ways to activate and you could recruit some of the last hold outs to from these events

It was a freaking pain but hey gave it replays
>>
>>34113391
So when's the scene where Recette remembers that her father did not actually leave her and was in fact murdered before her eyes by Terme men? I'd like to see how that played out.
>>
>>34114011
The nature of Recette's debt is one that I have taken... artistic licence? with.
>>
>>34114011
Doesn't she know/remember that?

Also ergh, why would we waste time and effort supporting the Little Bitch's Family's mafia when it'd take much less effort and much more secure to just support Terme.
>>
>>34114607
No. Stated reason is that he left to be a hero and the money went to his equipment and such. Obvious implication that he failed and died considering she'd been living alone for months when Tear shows up. Which is sort of grim already.
>>
>>34114488
You've changed recette and her dad starter situation to make more sense for the premise of the game

You split Terme from being the owner of Bigbash and thus little bitch dad also makes sense for story purposes by giving us a another npc faction

And you actually fleshed out the town itself and how its relation to the dungeons effect on it economy to show how the ruling factions in the city interplay with each, so yeah that's good

And you left everything else so far

Not many changes i think since the city had no story effect at all in the game
>>
Uwaa~
I forgot to archive thread and now I'm away from a pc. Someone mind grabbing it for me?
>>
>>34114816
I thought Terme bought out Big Bash when you unlock the Lapis Ruins, so Big Bash's faction was always there. Also, Recette's dad is still alive in the game.
>>
>>34115298
No terme already owned big bash

He was also the one to free prime and was alioute father in the game

And recettes father dies on some random dungeon while trying to make money as a adventurer

Many reasons to befriend Alouette.

>terme could turn against us
>alouette could turn attention away from us whereas relying on terme protection would just drag us further into the conflict. Remember that we already made ourselves noticed when BBs goons knocked on our door
>friendship with alouette could help us resolve the conflict if we wish
>could help us play both sides rather than be a glorified soldier for crime lords

>>terme could turn against us

I just said/meant that we stick with Terme instead of wasting time with trying to make good the other crew.

I spoiled myself on the wiki: dad's still alive, but he's was so pathetic Recette pretended not to notice him. This was played almost entirely for comedy, so just go with the more logical edits.

The invul field is risky to jump in and out of. I assume there's a time delay or something. Either way, it isn't advisable against multiple opponents or aoe/crowd control.

More importantly, the field is really small, making anything bigger than the shiv a difficult to carry. I don't think there's any armor that Recette could wear that would help, in any case. Maybe a magic cloak, but that's a sizable investment for a desparation attack.

If Tear is carrying the invul field, I think it's easier to jump in and out, but it carries the risk of hitting a trap and getting separated, only this time without invul.

Louie rolls to his feet, shield already back into position to block and more incoming attacks. Elan has taken cover behind one of the barricades to your left. You have no idea where the little girl has gone, though you're certain she'd moving around you right now. Straining your ears, you can hear a scuffling behind the structures to your right. You could almost swear there's more than one person behind them. Looking more carefully, you realize that the structures are raised platforms that would give an attacker a good view of the area you're in right now.
A solid hit to the platforms would probably collapse them easily enough.

>Think up a strategy to help them!
>>
>>34127985
I'm trying to think of a reason not to keep them in cover while we exploit our invulnerability field to just try to talk to her and calm her down. She's just a frightened little girl after all, we should know how to talk to one.
>>
>>34127985
How does the invulnerability field work? Can we just walk where we think arrows will be and act as an immortal living shield?
>>
>>34128106
invulnerability field "phases you out" sort of, so things will just pass right through you. In fact they can't even see you(elf eyes may be excepted because lolelves, who knows) which I suppose is the main reason not to try diplomacy. Voices she can't find the source of might just spook her even more.

We can still use it to locate her though, try to let the other know when it'd be relatively safe to move from cover and try to smash the platforms.
>>
Humans, elves, fairies etc can see and hear people inside the invulnerability field.
Users are essentially invisible to all the magical creatures of the living dungeons, and incorporeal whilst inside the field. Things will simply phase right through them. Obviously, since humans can pass in and out of the invulnerability field at will, the field offers no protection against a humanoid foe who could simply get close enough to phase into your plane of existence and stab you.
>>
>>34127985

I dunno, what would collapsing the platforms do?
>>
>>34128444
Would mean she can't jump up on them and shoot you from there. Which is something she'll be wanting to do given that she has the only ranged weapon in the area.

not that she can't just fire entire volleys at you from wherever she likes for as long as she likes, fucking elves man, but at least she'd be firing blind

>>34128386
Try to have Louie provide a distraction since he has a shield to protect himself with. When Tielle is distracted, Elan sprints to the platform to break it.
>>
>>34128500

Okay, sure I'll go with this.
>>
If all else fails start insulting elves. Racism and such.

But as a last resort, we might be able to recruit it if we play strategically.
>>
>>34128535
I'd be very surprised if Tielle isn't recruitable in this quest, considering that she is just that in the vidya. As long as we don't kill her, something you couldn't accidentally do in the vidya but probably could here.
>>
>>34128568
I haven't played the video game. So I'll assume you're right.

Still, if all else fails resort to blatant racism.
>>
>>34128585
She's also blatantly overpowered as an adventurer in the vidya. She trivializes everything so badly, I don't even count her when talking about best adventurers. She just goes on her own list. That probably won't be the case here, but she'd probably still be very useful to befriend.
>>
>>34127985

"Louie!" He cranes his neck to look at you while keeping his shield up. "Go out there and make her shoot at you a bit. Elan, knock down those structures so she can't use them to shoot at us!"

"Got it." "Right!"

Louie rushes forward into the middle of the pathway and starts making some noise, crashing his sword against his shield. With a panicked cry, the little girl appears from behind one of the barricades and fires a shot at him again. He deflects this one instead of blocking it outright, half-turning away so it glances off into the air. As the girl is nocking another arrow, Elan rushes forward and drop-kicks the supporting beam of the structure nearest to him. It collapses into a pile of timber, leaving a now-gaping hole in the barricade lines. One that is suddenly filled with a pair of very angry-looking gnolls. The first one manages to look indignant before Elan reflexively punches it in the face and caves its skull in. The second one manages to throw a punch back at him, forcing him onto the defensive.

The little girl, meanwhile, has apparently spotted what your plan is and has rushed behind the barricades to the left and jumped onto the top of one of the structures into a single motion. Even now, she's drawing her bow back for another shot. This time with three arrows on her string.

>?
>>
>>34129109

Yell a warning out to Elan
>>
>>34129109
Sure wish I knew how her abilities worked.

Elan, grab that gnoll and use it as a body shield. If you're feeling particularly strong then use the other as a projectile.
>>
>>34129153
She shoots arrows. Sometimes she shoots lots of arrows, but that's basically what she can do. Everything else is the dungeon.
>>
>>34129109
"Elan look out!"

He dodges a blow from the gnoll, then turns to see what you're shouting about. Seeing the arrows released, he ducks to the side and grapples with the gnoll, just in time for one of the three arrows to thud deep into its chest. The creatures wails and falls. The other two arrows smash into Louie, the first crunching into his shield and pushing him back, the second meeting his ankle and knocking his foot from under him. He hits the ground a second time with a yelp.

With both your adventurers in the open, the little girl wastes no time in quickly nocking another three arrows, though this time she points her bow straight up and releases the volley. With lightning speed, she knocks another three and fires. And another three. The first three haven't even hit the ground yet and she's pulling her fourth volley back!

>Get them to rush the structure

"Get close, you two! Push up to her!"

The two catch on to your idea instantly, with Elan rushing forward and sliding in next to Louie as he pulls his shield up over his head just in time for the rain of arrows to descend on the area. The hail is worthy of an entire army, the arrows hammering down in their dozens. The girl is still firing away atop the structure, creating an unceasing rain of death.

Together, the two rush forwards towards the structure with Louie's shield taking the hits, each impact clearly jarring his arm and forcing him to brace the shield harder. After just three hits you can see him straining hard but they've made it to the structure. With both hands, Elan grabs one of the supporting beams and jerks it hard, tearing it from its base and toppling the tower the tiny girl is standing upon.

With the floor below her collapsing away, she finally ends her arrow storm as she scrabbles to try to keep her footing. It's no use, and she tumbles to the ground along with the structure.
A moment's silence as the rubble settles. Then she screams. Leaping back to her feet, within arm's reach of the two fighters, the fear in her eyes jumps tenfold. "STAY AWAAAY!"

Without another word, she turns to bolt across the open ground towards the next platform.

>"This is my ancestral bow, carved into one fragment of the Millenial Oak during a full moon by the ritual master of my tribe and gifted to my great-grandfather for his bravery in battle..."
>"Alright, but this one here does 1d8 more damages and can shoot fire. It's only one week old, though"
>"Time to modernise!"

Before she can make it two paces, Elan tackles her bodily, slamming her tiny frame into the ground under two hundred pounds of muscle. Her terrified squeak is the last noise she makes before he knocks the wind clean out of her.

Elan jumps back to his feet and heaves the tiny, unconscious girl up after him. "Is she alright?" you ask worriedly.

Elan shrugs, "I just winded her, I think. Probably passed out from the fright, poor thing."

Louie quickly checks her over before confirming, "she seems fine. Should wake up soon enough."

Elan and Louie both turn to you and Alouette for guidance. "So, uh... what do we do with her?"

Alouette turns her nose up and walks away towards the treasure chest sitting by the exit home. Leaving you to make the decision.

>?
>>
>>34130678
Let's talk to her and hear why she's so terrified of us.
>>
>>34130678
Take her with us. Separate her from her bow. Wrap or encase the bow in something to prevent it from being used, but do not destroy it. Wake her up with the soothing smells of stew, tea, and cake.

Oh wait, Allouete's with us. Ask for identification for her at the Adventurer's Guild.
>>
>>34130678
She's just been recruited as elf-maid.
>>
>>34130678
just a small interrogation, i guess?
ask her what's wrong with her, and why did she attack us?
>>
>>34130678
>"Let's try to talk to her."
>Examine her to see if she's hurt or if there is any indications of who she might be or of how long she was in that dungeon.
>>
>>34130678
Have the guys take her weapons and stand back so she'll feel less intimidated by their big strong manliness. Then try to wake her up and calm her.
>>

>Oh wait, Allouete's with us. Ask for identification for her at the Adventurer's Guild.
Seconding this. She might be an adventurer who was "lost" in the dungeons.

"We take her with us," you tell them.

"Wait, what?" Louie blinks twice. "Take her with us? You mean abduct her!?"

"What? No. We can't just leave her here. She looked really scared. She might be an adventurer that just got lost. We'll take her to the Guild and see if they know her."

"Sounds good to me," Elan says as he gently lifts the little girl in his arms. You smile inwardly at his sudden switch. Just moments ago he was smashing her into the ground, now he's treating her like a delicate flower. At least he didn't hesitate in the moment, you think.

Alouette finishes bagging whatever was in the chest, then begins tapping her foot impatiently waiting for the rest of you to hurry up. With the now-five of you gathered around the Go Home door, she turns the handle and opens the portal back to the Guild.

The Guild Master wastes no time in informing you that the little girl in your arms is an elf. Apparently she has a sister and he's never seen them apart on the few occasions they've visited the city. He doesn't know where they live, and suspects they actually live in the dungeons, but that's wild speculation on his part.
Interestingly, he hasn't seen the sister for a few days now, and had assumed the two elf girls had gone home together. You thank him for the information, then see that Alouette has finished reporting her loot to the authorities and had a certain number of items confiscated or taxed. Luckily, they haven't bothered to check you since she was carrying the designated loot bag and so they know nothing about your cat statue.

"A fine selection," Alouette preens, showing off the shiniest bits of loot she'd picked up while you were busy making sure everyone got out okay. "You should be grateful I allowed you to accompany me today, Recette!"

>Respond to her?

>Take the girl home?
>Leave her with the Adventurer's Guild?
>Wait until she wakes up?
>Other?
>>
>>34131788
>You're welcome Alou-chan.
>Take the girl home, leave note to Guild in case sister comes by before she wakes up
>>
>>34131788
>>Respond to her?
It was fun. Compare notes on how to improve. Ask how she has so much faith in Louie.

>>Take the girl home?
She needs some home-cooked cooking.

And, you know, indoctrination.
>>
>>34131853
>indoctrination
B-but that's such a strong word~
>>
>>34131788
>"Thank you, Alouette."
>Take the girl home, leave note to Guild in case sister comes by before she wakes up

We should advertise our shop here sometime.

So, beside the statue and the 'shrooms, what is our part of the loot?
>>
>>34131877
From what I remember, Tielle is the one most blatantly affected by Recette's protagonist aura. Elan is pretty high up there, too.
>>
>>34131788
>>34131903
I forgot:
>Thank Elan for his work and invite him to go along to the shop to discuss his payment.

To each work its due salary.
>>
>>34131788
>>34131949
ooch, right, salary and furniture. Forgot about those.
>>
>>34131948
Tielle in the vidya pretty much completely abandons her quest to find her sister, instead opting to hang around Recette or stroll around in Pensee eating all the candy she can get her hands on. But don't worry, she'll get around to that too eventua- IS THAT CHOCOLATE?
>>
>>34132186
I'm sure her sister had a good reason for disappearing without any notice and leaving her kid sister for an extended period of time. It's probably some sorta elf tradition so they can become independent.
>>
>>34132186
But was video-Tielle as traumatised as quest-Tielle?
>>
>>34131964
We can even throw in the patched tough clothes.

Speaking of which, our inventory doesn't mention the clothes we bought in Percival's shop.
>>
>>34132281
Maybe she got killed. Or got in trouble with loan sharks
>>
>>34132286
If I recall, yeah pretty much. She's completely freaking out when you find her, shooting at anything that moves. She calms down when you give her candy.

I also like to imagine that she didn't actually set up her arena either, it just got built around her to handily turn a lost child into a dungeon boss, giving her further cause to be freaked out. Arma doesn't give no shits.

>>34132281
I don't know if she actually intended to or got separated accidentally. Tielle pretty much just forgets about the whole thing, so it's kinda blank as far as I know. You're free to make up your own explanation.
>>
>>34132425
We could ask Tear to look if she can find Tielle's sister. And leave "have you seen this elf" posters.
>>
>>34132425
Whilst the most obvious cause would be dead sister, the more heart-breaking one would be abusive/negligent sister, and the horrifying one would involve Arma "modifying" the sister into a better boss, or cloning her into a new series of mob.
>>
>>34132670
>tielle-style dungeon monsters

And then Pensee turned into Detroit as the adventuring business crashed completely due to all the adventurers being fucking dead. Fuck that shit.

"Thank you Aloutte," you say, trying to sound sincere. "It was a lot of fun. We should do it again some time. Maybe we can talk about how to do better next time?"

She brightens at the suggestion. "I'd lo- uh, well I guess if you're so insistent, I shall have to provide you with my flawless assistance again in the future. Appreciate it, plebeian!" She quickly leaves the Guild, Louie hot on her heels.

You decide to write a quick note to this unknown sister and leave it as a message with the Guild Master. He takes it willingly enough, and you leave the store with Elan and the little girl, who is apparently called Tielle.

Elan carries the elf child all the way back to your store and you help him set her gently in your bed. Tear is home, moving around the kitchen. The other two have not returned.

"Well, that's our business sorted I guess," Elan announces. He stands and prepares to leave.

"Wait!" You stop him. "We haven't talked about your payment yet! Come on, we can talk about it over food!"
>>
Is that the end?

Seems to be kind of a strange moment to cut the scene, to me

Kaleun works in mysterious ways
>>
>>34133249

>Herr Kaleun @Loli_Kaleun
>Hearing my pressure vessels rumbling in operation behind me is both extremely satisfying and rather unnerving.
>No explosions all day though!

You can guess what happened...
>>
>>34133249
He probably just got interrupted again. You should be used to the consequences of having him running quests while at work by now.
>>
>>34133427
No, I meant, he always use this pic to end the session.

>>34133427
So are options are: A) Kalen has considered this an appropriate place to end the thread;
B) He has been exploded by his pressure vessels;
or C) Big Boss is on his case and he has to undergo extreme evasion protocols.

Place your bets! Odds are @ 0.5:3:1
>>
>>34133552
D) He's faking it for suspense, hence the tweet.
>>
>>34133971
E) he got attacked by the killer fromt the movie "Red is Dead"
>>
>>34133552
Some of C mixed with A. Manager wouldn't stop paying visits to the lab so I chose the closet thing that resembled a reasonable place to stop. Then got busy and couldn't update.

Also, I'll be busy now for the rest of the evening, so thread is over!

Thank you all for reading and being so patient!

I'll be around on and off now for Q&A as usual, and thread is open to discussion and planning! Beyond that, next thread will be same time next week!
>>
>>34134641
Thanks for the thread!

Could you tell us the loot we got, and if it's not too much to ask, the clothes we bought earlier?
>>
So, I vote we give 10% of what we officialy looted today to Elan + some furnitures of his chosing, 20% to Euria and the remaining 70% to Charme.

The 'shroom and the cat statue would go to pay the debt.
>>
>>34136351
the shrooms were a command for Caillou, if i remember well
>>
>>34136374
You remember correctly. I means that the money he gives us for them go to pay the debt.
>>
>>34134809
>Could you tell us the loot we got
I could, but since I was at work I haven't actually rolled on the loot table yet. I'll have it updated into the pastebin in time for the next thread, though.
