Sorry for the delay, guys. I had issues with my college that needed settling. They're settled now, though, so we're okay! I do apologize that we bounce from day to day when we run- that's basically I can't get a consistent schedule from work, ever. With school starting up again next week and work loving to brutally kill my hopes and dreams of a social life, we'll see if we can't run sometime on the weekends, though. Anyway, let's get cracking.
You've been around the block. You've been through quite a few scrapes. Once, you almost even got married. You were young, once. Some might say you're still young. After all, you're twenty-eight almost twenty-nine. It's only about a month and a half until your birthday. But if you factor in living a few months over and over and over again, you're probably the oldest man on the planet give or take several dozen years. But that's okay, you think. You're tough. You can deal. After all, isn't that why you did it to begin with? No one else could or would.

But you've never dealt with something like this- you're sitting across from the principal of Tokyo-Middle, with Shinji sitting next to you. He's a Japanese man in his mid-forties, with a dignified salt and pepper goatee and a pair of spectacles.

“Mr. Cryan, as you are not Mr. Ikari's guardian or parent, I must ask you to leave.” You lean forward, and place your hands in front of your mouth, elbows propped up on his desk. It's a blatant invasion of his personal fortress, the desk, but then you're pretty blatant when you want to be.

“Mr. Soujiro,” you begin. “I am acting with the full consent and authority of both Captain Katsuragi, Mr. Ikari's current guardian, and his father, Supreme Commander Ikari.” No. You're not. But he doesn't actually need to know that, does he? After all, what he doesn't know can't hurt him. You'll need to have a talk with Shinji, after this, to let him know not to give you up, but he's been pretty good about that in the past, hasn't he?
>>
>>34118350
“It is forbidden. There are laws in place!” He sounds slightly agitated, so you ease up on his desk, and lean back ever so slightly. He notices, and leans back himself, slightly letting go of some of his tension.

“Sir,” you say reassuringly, “I know there are laws in place. These laws are designed to protect normal students with normal living situations, neither of which apply to Mr. Ikari here.”

Principal Soujiro is sweating now, if ever so slightly. The sharp scent of fear has made itself known to you, and you don't want the man extremely afraid- you need to be able to talk to him, after all. So you settle back in your chair, and the man's sweating eases up.

“I know this, Mr. Cryan. However the laws are the laws! I cannot make exceptions for one- when I begin doing so, soon all will be clamoring for exceptions.”

“I understand this, sir. I'm not asking you provide the tape of the incident for all of NERV to view, simply myself. Someone shoved my boy into a locker, and I want this situation resolved quickly. If I have to,” you conclude, “I'll settle it myself.”

“I cannot,” he repeats helplessly. “You are not Mr. Ikari's father-”

“Mr. Ikari's father,” you interrupt. “Is a busy man. I am, in this case, acting as a concerned father would. Either let me view the tape in order to have a talk with whoever did it, or I can break into the school and find the tape myself. Trust me,” you lean in closer, “I can do it.”

He's sweating again, you note. “I cannot,” he's repeating. “It is forbidden.”

[]”Look. Just leave the tape on the monitor and happen to have to go to the bathroom or whatever. Then we can pretend this never happened.”
[]”Guess I'll be doing this the hard way, then. C'mon Shinji, we're leaving.”

“Look,” you say briefly. “Just leave the tape playing on the monitor and take a trip to the bathroom or something. That way, we can just pretend this never happened.”

“I-” You lean in briefly, and then frown.

“I insist.” He eyes you, then your unbuttoned suit coat. Then you. Then Shinji. Then the coat. He takes the computer mouse and plays with it for a moment, silently, then-

“I must use the restroom. Please pardon me,” he says, very quietly, and then leaves the room. You stand and move behind his desk, where a video player is pulled up. You press the 'play' button, and even though there's no sound, you get a very good look at what happens. Shinji is outside his locker? Someone's locker, at least, checking his bag for something. The locker is open. A boy, no more than fourteen, comes along and, taking glances up and down the hall, pushes Shinji in, before closing the door behind him.

Eventually, Asuka comes along, and after a brief conversation with the locker, continues on her way.

“I've seen enough,” you tell Shinji. Mr. Soujiro comes back into the room shortly thereafter, and after a brief exchange of pleasantries, you take your leave with Shinji.

“Let's go find Asuka,” you say, and light up a cigarette. “I'm surprised you let that go, laddie.”

“I-” he begins. “I couldn't get out after the door was shut,” he finally admits quietly. “I wanted to do something, but-” He seems to struggle for his words, but eventually manages to finish. “I wanted to do something, but I don't know who it was.”

“Understandable,” you say reassuringly. “I'll handle it, don't worry. Until then, where's Asuka and Mari?”

“Mari said she'd be waiting for us in the library, and Asuka mentioned something about the common area.”

Now I have to ask which Asuka here, beacuase if its the 90s version of Asuka then not so much if it's the one that is super sweet in the newer one then I guess that would be understandable too.

Original flavor Asuka. I mean, she'd probably mock him for getting into that situation, but after she's done, she'd let him out, y'know?
>>
>>34119965
Eh might go that way I was under th impression she might have gone either way in the beginning since original flavor had her cast out as the young spitfire eager and raring to go out and prove she's abig shot against the pilot with what was it three confirmed angel kills?

If I was in her shoes I could imagine wanting to do the same, hell I bet she had some fantasy of getting into a rivarly with Shinji at the start and slowly catching up before prooving she was the best.

“Hey, mate,” you speak around your cigarette. “Why don't you go find Mari and I'll find Asuka? You can take your time heading back to the car, too.”

“Okay,” Shinji tells you, and then he takes off, bag slung over his shoulder. You take another pull on your cigarette, and then head outside. Once you reach concrete, you let what's left drop and then you grind the butt into the concrete. The common area. Right. You meander your way around the building, (you memorized the floor plan, the plumbing, and the wiring plans, just in case,) and make your way to the small stand of trees where Asuka is sitting underneath one.

She opens one eye as she hears someone approaching, sighs dramatically when she sees it's you, and flops back. “What do you want?” She demands, and you quietly gird yourself for the soon to be following verbal skirmish.

“You need to lay off Shinji,” you begin quietly, and then she interrupts you.

“Ugh,” she grinds out. “It's always all about Shinji, isn't it? I haven't even been here two weeks and he's all I hear about, what with his three kills and how perfect he is.”

“I can promise you this,” you reassure her, and then you switch to German. “If he was the one harassing you like you have been him, I'd be having this exact same conversation with him.”

She looks askance at you, surprised you know her preferred mother tongue, then shrugs. “So what? He needs someone to teach him how to be a man.”

“So you're saying that you, a thirteen and a half year old girl that's never been outside her sheltered home environment a day in her lie, knows more about being a man than I do?” You ask very, very quietly.

(1/2)
>>
“I- what? No, of course not,” she sputters.

“Good,” you say. “Because I'm working on it.” You light up another cigarette and take a seat next to her. “See,” you confide, “the thing is- the thing is, you can't just tell a kid like Shinji, 'man the fuck up, mate, you've got shit to kill'.”

“Of course you can,” she says doubtfully. “He's a boy, isn't he?”

“See? That's exactly it.” You tell her. “You're expecting him to be manly one minute, and then calling him a boy the next. The journey to manhood doesn't happen over night. It takes time- time to learn, and make mistakes, and learn from those mistakes, and learn who he wants to be as a man.”

“Want me to tell you a secret, Asuka?” She eyes you warily, and then shrugs.

“I heard about what you said to Mari. From some bad war movie wasn't it?”

“Sure,” you say agreeably. “But this isn't. This is the gospel truth, cross my heart and hope Saint Michael takes me now if I lie.” You cross your heart, cigarette hanging from your fingers, for emphasis. She sighs.

“Fine, if you must.”

“Great,” you grin. You lean in close to her, so close your breath is almost tickling her ear. “Are you ready?”

She nods, and you let your grin die. “Truth is, Asuka,” you begin, “I'm still trying to figure out what kind of man I want to be. Oh, sure, I hope I'm someone my mother could be proud of, but there's no way for me to know for sure.”

“What do you mean?” She asks quietly.

“I lost my mother about twelve years ago,” you say quietly. “Like I said. I'm still trying to figure out what kind of man I want to be, and I'm twenty-eight. I think it's unfair of you to expect Shinji, at fourteen, to know who he wants to be.”

“I d- I don't-” she tries to begin, but you cut off her. You're lying, of course. You know what kind of man you and whether or not your mother would be proud of you- not that great, and maybe.

“Anyway,” you say over her objections, “it's time to get going. What do you want for dinner?”

“Something Western,” Asuka complains. “I'm sick of Japanese food.”

Asuka stands as well, and moves to walk beside you. You shove the cigarette back into your mouth, and pat her on the head briefly. She relaxes into it for the briefest moment, and then brushes past you, muttering underneath her breath in French.

“What were you thinking?” You ask around your cigarette, and consider lighting up another one with the end of the current.

“Pizza, maybe. But a normal one, not one with the weird Japanese toppings.”

“I think we can get delivery,” you admit. “We'll need to stop at a convenience store on the way back and pick up some soda- soda with pizza is traditional, where I come from.”

“That's fine,” she says. “But I want the passenger seat in the front.”

“Will you ease off Shinji some?” She presented an opening, and you've pounced.

“I guess,” she allows quietly.

“Swell,” you say cheerfully. “As long as you're not a raging cunt to him, you can ride passenger.”

“I'll make an attempt,” she promises. “I'm the greatest pilot ever!” You kindly refrain from making a snarky comment about her kill count. When you both reach the car, you toss a wink and a nod at Shinji, and he and Mari get into the back, while Asuka seizes the passenger seat.

It's a subdued drive- Shinji is probably thinking over the meeting with the principal, Asuka is probably thinking you're a raging prick, and Mari probably just wants to go do whatever it is she does when she's not at school or NERV. Thankfully, it's not rough- traffic is easy, thanks to the MAGI's automation of the lights and crosswalks and what not, and you're soon pulling into a convenience store to gas up the Aston Martin and pick up a twelve pack of soda.
>>
You step inside, greet the cashier, and begin perusing the contents of the drink aisle. A tickling on the back of your neck and shoulders is the hair standing up- you've been hunted before and now you're being hunted again. You half turn, to check outside- the kids are fine, if a bit bored-

"Oh," Lily's voice causes you to jump; you turn about in the store, but see no celestial horror. She's in your head, right. "This is- odd? It seems your assassination is taking place sooner than expected." There's a hit on you? She didn't say anything about that when you last spoke with her.

That's when a stitch of suppressed gunfire takes out the windows you had just glanced out of.

You know, I'm kind of getting tired of this shit. If she can step through space and time she's essentially Omnipotent.

Omnipotent means that she's omniscient, which means none of this shit is a surprise, and she knows fucking everything. I preferred it when we just stuck with mommy dreams rather than this piece of shit QM fiat

It does not necessarily follow that she is either. Her powers have not been shown to be limitless, otherwise we would have no problem to solve. She is also not omniscient, as her knowledge of events is seemingly based on probability drawn from previous loops.

To be honest, I kinda agree with him.
NGE wasn't really about space gods and angels, it was more about emotions and feelings.
I feel the whole lily thing broke that, meanwhile we could have continued with the dreams about our mother, dealt with emotional problems, much like every character in the series who doesn't die early.

The only thing that has this sort of power is the hybrid Rei/Adam/Lilith shown in EoE, which was only IMPLIED, to have such powers. And even then, it committed suicide on Shinji's command, since much like Lillith, it doesn't have a proper will of it's own.

So either you go all the way, and say it's a omnipotent star god that can step backwards and forwards, or you leave it as an inert piece of shit. Unless you're going into the super special snowflake Mary Sue territory, where you would replace the only known avatar of Lillith, Rei, with some sort of completely original charact- oh wait

Lily isn't really a character though, our interactions with her won't be at all like our ones with Misato for example.

Her existence doesn't carry the weight of a real character, since she hasn't the capability to interact with us beside star god telepathy.
>>

>>
>>34122299
I actually do quite like the quest, I was just agreeing with someone.
>>
>>34122195
The way I'm reading is that Lilith already has a contract for our soul, this whole repeating timeline thing seems to just be her fulfilling our one request, to be able to go back and fix things.
>>
>>34122330
>What's the problem with that?
No motive to, at all. No fucking reason for it. It's like expecting a rock to be insulted when you call it a cunt. Lillith is the same, it doesn't have any reason to care about Dec, his life, his friends, or how many bullshit repetitions there are.

All that it was shown to care about was instrumentality, because that's basically all it existed for.
>>
>>34122382
She truly is best eldritch abomawaifu
>>
>>34122382
See, if at one point we romanced Rei, and say we died a little before EoE, maybe stopping Kaworu or some shit.

Then as she was doing her star god Lillith shit, she thought to herself "Alright, since Shinji doesn't like this, and I don't have shit to do, lets go and live with Dec forever", now that's make a lot more sense.

But as it is, "Lily", basically willed itself a will out of nowhere, decided to do this random ass contract bullshit with us, for again, no reason, and continued to interact with us, for again, no reason.
>>
>>34122522
Insofar as we know. There's a hell of a lot we don't know, up to and including how eldritch superbeings operate.
>>
>>34122522
you are still talking why are you talking
>>
>>34122570
There's only one star god we know of.

And that's the Hybrid Adam/Lilith/Rei, which, because Rei liked Shinji, allowed him to tip the point of instrumentality, as shown in EoE and the last episode of the original series.

All we can see for it's motivations, is the like for Shinji, and the need for instrumentality. Aside from that, the two star god spawns before that, Lilith and Adam, have been shown to basically be inert. Adam is debatable.

Now, the thing is, I wouldn't mind it as much if Tangfag gave it a bit more of a backstory other than "I did this because you made contract".

You dive for cover behind a set of shelving, but a tinkling behind you informs you that the convenience store has TWO walls that are nothing but window. Swearing, you pull your gun and scramble for the booth the cashier is sitting behind. You want to know WHY a Japanese convenience store is playing something classical, but you don't question it now.

The most important questions, to you right now, are why someone's shooting at you specifically, and why Lily couldn't tell you that this was going to happen BEFORE you stepped inside. You make it behind the booth, cross yourself briefly, and pull your cellphone. Knowing is half the battle, and violence is the other half. So far you don't know jack shit, so you can't commit violence.

First, though, is the Children's safety. You dial Asuka. “Hallo?” She answers in German- good. That means if someone is listening in, they can't understand what you're saying. (Unless they speak German too, a little voice in the back of your mind whispers doubt into you.)

“Asuka,” you say. “I need you to get Shinji and Mari to duck, and stay that way. You need to, too. Okay?”

“Herr Cryan? Why? Wha-” She sounds extremely confused- she must not have noticed the windows being shot out.

“No questions now, Asuka. Can you do this for me? Can you be a good girl? I'll be out in a moment,” you promise her. She mutters an affirmative- it doesn't matter whether she believes you'll be out in a moment or not, just as long as they keep their heads below the armored sides, so the cavalry can show up.

Simple, Horny Teenager

Heart pounding, you're genuinely in fear for the Children. They've got at least two snipers, presumably spotters as well, keeping you pinned, with suppressed automatic rifles- you'd hazard an HK416, for the semblance of accuracy. But that's expensive- Hech and Kochler is proud of their stuff, and smuggling fully automatic weapons with suppressors into Japan has to be even more expensive. How many for an assault team, you rack your mind.

What would you do if you were the one attacking the man pinned inside? A four man assault team for the building itself, two for each entrance. You can't cover both at the same time, it's not humanly possible. Even if you catch one, the other will get you in the back, and you don't want to test your nifty subdermal armor against fully automatic fire for a sustained period.

“Fuck,” you say loudly. “What to do, what to do?” You hear something above you that strikes fear into your heart- a helicopter. But it doesn't sound military- it might be a news chopper. Fuck it, you decide. You're getting too old for this shit and help would be nice. You speed dial Michael Black, the Agent on duty at the house, and he picks up in Old English- he'd been studying it, he said.

“Knock that shit off,” you tell him. “I'm at Shigeru's place, you know the one- five minutes from the house?”

“Sure,” he says. “We can be there in seven. What are we talkin', here?”

“Two sniper teams in buildings across both roads, I'm pinned inside. I want to say they're going to be assaulting with another team within the next five minutes but I can't be sure,” you tell him in a rush. It's a credit to the tall man that he gets it all, especially considering you're pretty sure your Irish is showing.

You're going to stay put. Unless they go for the kids. Then you don't know what you'll do, but it'll probably be something very drastic. Another burst stitches itself down the wall across from you. “Fuck,” you say again. They know where you're at. Why did Asuka not notice the gunfire or the windows breaking?

Probably too busy giving Mari or Shinji shit while out from under your supervision, you decide. That would be in character. The others should have noticed, though. Not much you can now, though. Using your cellphone as a mirror, you check on the car and building- building's clear, car's still secure. You can't see anyone moving to attack your position, so they must be using the wall you're facing as cover.

Fuck, they're good. How much time has elapsed? One minute thirty seconds. Fuck, you need a drink. You'd like a shag, too, but that isn't happening and you're not sure something that might not exist counts. Your alcoholism and history might have finally caught up with you- Lily, the subconscious, the loops- it might be one big joke your brain's playing on itself as you slowly lapse into insanity and madness.

You might already be mad, and that's the most chilling part- after all, there's a hospital in Hokkaido dedicated to the soldiers that forced themselves to try to synch with the Evangelions, all gibbering wrecks. You might be one of them- after all, isn't the whole reason you made a deal with something that might not even exist because of your goddamned 'duty'?

You've got a duty right now, though. You can't shirk it, even if it is in your head. You check the screen of your phone- there's two men approaching the car in the parking lot.

It would be more... Either give one their own individual guardian, and as such keep them split apart.

But as it's standing, if someone wanted to utterly wreck NERV, they could simply wait around a corner with an RPG and blow up the car. Three pilots, dead.

So in that case I would imagine we'd at least be driving something that's an equivalent of a tank, with guards, with implanted spies following the routes we're taking. This is literally the future of humanity they're protecting here after all

You bring your pistol to bear, and stand to your full height in one smooth motion. You settle the iron sights firmly on the first man's chest, and pull the trigger. Your CZ kicks upwards, but you force it downwards before the man can begin falling backwards, and you pull the trigger again. This time, as your pistol is rising with the recoil, you shoot once more as the iron sights pass over his stomach, and he topples backwards, rifle dropping from his hands. You shift your aim to the second man, trying to bring his own rifle to bear on you.

He gets one off, but your first two are dead center in the X-ring. He starts going backwards, and you pull the trigger once more. He goes down, hard, and then you're going backwards, too. You slam into the wall- too hard to be fake, and cough once. One of the marksmen must have gotten you while you were exposed, and you're glad he went for center mass. If he had shot you in the head, there would be no more Declan. You wish you had a QRF following you around. Having them able to kick doors in and grenade windows to help would be nice. As soon as this is over you'll be requesting that, you think. And hiding the kids in a bunker defended by the Swiss Guard.

You cough again, and check yourself for sucking chest wounds. There are none, so you're still good to fight (and die,) that insidious voice tells you. It's not Lily because she'd be all “Oh my brave Dec” and shit and frankly you're getting kind of tired of it, you'd just like some answers, is all.

Forcing those thoughts aside, you check the time on your watch. One minute left. “It's all copacetic,” you tell the cashier cowering beside you. “Mike'll come rolling up in the armored SUV, and then he'll pick the kids up in it, and then he'll roll up to me and pick me up, and then I'll go hunt me some snipers,” you grin.
>>
The crunching of glass behind you penetrates the gunfire haze in your ears, and you narrow your eyes. Mike's not due for another- you check your watch- forty seconds.

You've got ten shots left in your magazine, with four magazines left. Using your cell as a mirror again, you catch a black mass shift behind a shelf.

Wrong, as it stands a living pilot is needed for an EVA unit to utilise an S2 Engine for the 3rd impact.

Keeping Pilots alive is also ESSENTIAL, for killing Angels, and considering how much of a risky business that is, on both the PR front AND the actual battle field, you would think that the pilots are needed.

As for your comments about what they need in their pilots, I'm unsure of where you're getting this information from. Both parties need pilots to repel the Angels, only one party needs a pilot to initiate instrumentality, and well adjusted individuals serve both interests fine.

Argh fuck are you kidding me I've got to go in to work early tomorrow evening so we'll be cutting this one short. Sorry mates.

>

Are you a bad enough dude to use a cellphone as a mirror to shoot someone? Some distant part of your training weeps at what you're about to do. But fuck the rules, you've been shot at here. So you poke your pistol above the counter, and use the phone to see.

He's emerging around the corner of the shelf. You center your sights on him and-

a whirr of bullets slashes its way across the convenience store, cutting the man in half. You look and see a black painted Humvee with anti-RPG armor parked in the lot, machine gun on the top still smoking from the burst that cut the man you were about to shoot in half. It tracks left, then right, then brings the gun to bear on some distant window you can't see, before letting loose with a burst. It tracks left, then right, and then another burst.

You give the Humvee a thumbs up, and stand up slowly. Mike leans out of the driver's seat and shoots you a thumbs up, before the side doors open and three of your Agents emerge. They sweep the parking lot, street, and building, before giving it an all clear.

Making your way to Mike, he shakes your hand. “We broke about fifteen different traffic regulations,” he's grinning, “But by God we got in here in four minutes.

“That you did, Mike, that you did. Thanks, by the way.”

“No problem,” he says easily. “No problem at all, just doing my duty. What do you want to do about the kids, sir?”

“I'm not sure- are they holding up okay?”

“From what I saw, sure, sir,” he says. “What do you want to do with 'em?”

“I'll take them in the Aston and the Humvee can follow. Are you okay to stay here for the Captain?” You ask Mike, watching as the three men from the passenger seats get back in, while one takes the driver's.

“Sure, sure,” he says easily. “No problem at all. What was for dinner?”

“I was going to order pizza from Pizza Hut, why?”

“Can you get a couple extra for the boys and I?”

“Sure, sure,” you respond coolly. “I'll foot the pizza if you foot the soda?”

“Alright,” Mike tells you. “I'll go ahead and dial it in for you, but tell 'em you'll pay?”

“Works for me,” you shake his hand. You leave him sitting behind the cashier's booth, smoking a cigarette, and head for the Aston Martin. The Children greet you with a quiet chorus of “Hello”, and you respond in kind.

You start the car and begin the drive to the place you're staying. It's not home, and it might be a while until it is.

“Thank you,” Asuka suddenly says. You glance at her out of the corner of your eye.

“What?” You ask intelligently.

“Thank you,” she repeats, just as quietly. Shrugging your shoulders, you put your eyes back on the road.

“Thank you for keeping Mari and Shinji from panicking,” you tell her. “And thank you for not panicking yourself. You helped.

I guess at some point we should figure out where we were hit by the bullet, in case there's internal bleeding.
