You are Reinhold, master swordsman and victor of the Royal Swordsmanship Tournament. The King was so impressed with your skill, he personally requested that you be transferred out of the army and into the Royal Guard! Not bad for an orphan who was raised in a brothel in a poor fishing village.

The only issue at this point is your assignment... you've been charged to be the personal guard of the King's only daughter Marianne. While she is the vision of loveliness that you'd expect from a Princess, her personality is... well... she seems to have some issues.

You've finally made it into the city!

Having been granted the privilege of deciding where to go first, you opted to take care of your own personal errand first- namely, replacing the sketchbooks that the cleaning staff destroyed when you came back from Marconetti.

When you got to the art supply store, you happened to spot a certain someone... well, chances were that you'd run into her in a place like this. And in any event, it's nice to see that Citrine's made it back into the country safely.

>Congratulations, you are now a timid LLAMA!
>Llamas are strong and hardy... but also rather skittish.
>The Princess considers you to be her friend!
>But while llamas may be majestic, they still don't count as people.

"Hmm..."

It seems that you're the only one to have noticed that Citrine's in here... wait, that's not true. Takamaru's looking right at her, but seems to be leaving it up to you as to how to handle this situation.

...eh, you might as well say hi to her like a normal person. As tempting as it is to sneak behind her and scare her, she -is- kind of pregnant and all so you'd rather not risk it.

"Hey, Citrine!" you call out as you walk to the counter.
"Hm?" Citrine turns around to see who's there... and a wide smile forms on her face the instant she sees that it's you. "Reinhold!"

Abandoning the things that she was in the process of buying t the front counter, Citrine races towards you as fast as she can and opens her arms in preparation for a hug...

"Whooooa," you say, holding your hands up before you're trapped in her embrace. "Bear hugs and pregnancy don't mix, remember?"
"Oh yeah..." Citrine says with an embarrassed smile.

And then she settles on a "regular" hug instead, though it's still pretty tight.

Also, in time to post this. Someone asked me to draw Karel in a gothic lolita dress. While this probably isn't too gothic lolita enough, it was still fun to draw.

"Still though, it's so wonderful to run into you like this!" Citrine says with a beaming smile. "And you're with your pretty friends, too!" she waves to Luciana and the others.

...oh yeah, you should probably get that out of the way before Citrine ends up blowing Luciana's cover.

"Citrine, this is Violette," you say, pointing to Luciana.
"A new friend?" Citrine clasps her hands together. "Well it's nice to meet you..."

And then she gets a good look at her face.

"Ohhhhhhhhhhhh, I get it now!" Citrine giggles. "Well I hope that you're enjoying your time with my brother and his friends here in Granache!"
"I have been, thank you," Luciana replies, meeting Citrine's smile with one of her own.

"I hope it hasn't been too rough on you dealing with all these teenaged girls," Citrine says, turning to Takamaru. "I doubt my brother's been much help in that area, he's always been kind of a pushover when it comes to girls..."
"No," Takamaru laughs, "I am used to it by now."
"Well that's nice to hear!"

Turning her attention away from the foreign visitors, Citrine makes a beeline for Nicolette.

"No dress today?" Citrine asks. "You looked so pretty back during the party..."
"No," Nicolette replies with a nervous laugh. "I only wore that because my father made me."
"That's a shame," she pouts. "Your uncle was saying that you walk around in armor most of the time, so when you're out on the town like this you should try and dress more girlish, you know?"
"Uh, I'm wearing a skirt right now..."
"You know what she means, Nicolette," Melanie says, poking her on the cheek.
"Cut it out..."

>[2/?]

"I want to be comfortable when I'm off-duty, that's all," Nicolette sighs. "Big fancy dresses are like the opposite of that."
"I guess I understand what you mean," Citrine shrugs. "Sorry, I didn't mean to nag you or anything."
"It's fine," Nicolette shrugs. "I hear the same thing from my parents all the time.

After some more idle chatter with Melanie, Citrine finally remembers that she was in fact in the middle of making a purchase.

"Oh man, I'm so sorry!" Citrine says, scurrying back to the counter.
"It's no problem at all, Mrs. Lanzmann," the store attendant replies, shaking his head.

Of course Citrine would get special accommodations here, what with her husband being a famous artist and all.

After paying for several tubes of paint and a rather large stack of drawing paper, Citrine places them into two bags and then turns back to you.

"So what're you guys up to?" Citrine asks. "Shopping trip?"
"Something like that," you reply.
"This was originally Marie's trip into town, but she got caught up in sudden business and now it's just us," Luiciana sighs.
"Oh," she nods. "Yeah, I can guess why..."

Citrine takes a few moments to adjust the bags in her hands.

"Well I'm about to head back home so I can get this stuff back to Marius, would you guys like to visit for a little while?" Citrine asks.

"I wouldn't mind," you say, "but I'd probably need to run it by the others first."

The day's already been sidetracked enough as it is, you don't want to end up dragging Nicolette and the others along on an unwanted tangent. Despite the fact that you yourself definitely want to check out Citrine's living arrangements.

"It's fine with me," Luciana chimes in. "If nothing else, this will give me something to brag to Father about when I get home."

Marius is Celestino's favorite artist, after all... he probably would be envious if Luciana actually got to see his studio in person before he could.

"If we're not gonna be bugging you or anything, I wouldn't have any problem with it," Nicolette shrugs when you turn to her. "What about you, Melanie?"
"Sounds like fun!" Melanie smiles.

Great, there's no opposition to your further monopolizing of everyone's time!

"Well I guess that's settled," you say, laughing nervously. "Just let me pick up the stuff I came in here for and then we can get going..."

With that, you hurry over to where the sketchbooks are and start rifling through their stock in order to pick out the ones which are in the absolute BEST condition. Though you honed this skill in order to keep from accidentally buying rotten produce back when you were little, it's proven to be a pretty good habit to have in more or less every shopping situation you've ever been in.

One... two... three sketchbooks should be more than enough for now. Though you're not sure when the next time you'll be able to come out here is, there's also the fact that you don't go through these things all that quickly to take into account as well.

Plus you'd rather not have to carry too many of these things around with you all day.

Once you have the "what exactly to buy" part of this out of the way, you hurry back to the front counter and pay for everything.

"That's all you're getting?" Citrine asks, looking at your meager purchase. "I'm no artist myself, but I think I've learned enough from buying Marius's supplies to pick out something nice for you if you wanted some help..."

"Nah, it's fine," you shake your head. "I'm just replacing some things that got messed up a few days back."

You can FEEL Melanie scowling behind you, there's no need to even bother looking.

"Well okay then," Citrine says with a disappointed frown. "and here I was hoping to get to show off the prowess that comes from being an artist's wife... it could have been a learning experience for certain -future- artist's wives, you know?" she winks at Luciana.

It never ends.

"Well my shopping's done with so let's get out of here," you say, heading towards the door before this line of conversation can get any more awkward.

In the meantime, you can hear EVERYONE laughing at your discomfort. Even Takamaru.

And here you thought he understood your pain...

You know that's not actually true right? Teenagers didn't have the extended childhood we have nowadays but they weren't considered adults really. A 16-18 year old fighting in the army isn't unrealistic and was actually common but being a "master swordsman" or being promoted to the fucking royal guard, especially to a princess only a year younger is absolutely ludicrous.

After leaving the art supply store, Citrine takes a few moments to make sure that everything that she bought is accounted for.

"Ehehe, it's been a while since we've actually had guests over," Citrine says, smiling at you. "Marius is gonna be soooo surprised!"
"Really?" Luciana asks. "Your husband's a famous artist and all so I'd have thought that you'd be entertaining guests all the time."
"You'd think that, but Marius prefers to meet potential clients at places like art galleries and the line," she shrugs. "And I myself don't really have much in the way of friends, so..."
"For real?" Nicolette says, staring at her. "'Cuz you seem like a real 'social butterfly' type..."

Really, it seems insane that Citrine doesn't have tons of friends.

>[1/?]

Must be hard relating to nobles with that background. And she probably has as much psychological problems as Reinhold himself.

"I'm sorry to hear that," Melanie says. "It must get really lonely."
"Eh, you don't have to worry about me," Citrine shakes her head. "I have a great husband, we have a baby on the way... not to mention that Reinhold lives close-by. "She's doing alright," Citrine nods. "I was worried about telling her about the attacks and the traitorous Guard division and all that since she's all old and frail, but Marius figured that it was best to hear it from us instead of through gossip."
"I suppose that would be for the best," Luciana nods.

"He seemed pretty agitated by everything that was going down in the castle, but you'd have to ask Marius for anything more specific than that," she shrugs. "Sorry, I didn't really talk to him all that much myself."

"Just watch, they're preparin' to ATTACK!" you hear a gravelly voice shout.
"...attack?" Your ears perk up. "Wha?"

Maybe a block away from where you are, you see a man in shabby clothing shouting at a growing crowd.

"Oh God, this asshole again..." Citrine mutters under her breath.
"You know him?" Luciana asks.
"He's been out here all day, ranting about a bunch of foolishness," she says, rolling her eyes. "C'mon, paying attention to him just gives him a reason to keep on making a scene."

Unfortunately, your path leads directly past him. so you can't help but hear the contents of his rant.

"It's Marconetti!" the man shouts. "You SEE how they just up and closed the borders, this's only the first step! Once that old Wizard-king's away from Granache's prying eyes, just watch! They'll start building up their army even more than they already have and then one day BAM!" he slaps his hands together. "We'll get invaded just like that! Why do you think the ancient bastard married Sir Gregory's sister!? It's so he'll have leverage over OUR Royal Family once the attacks begin!"
"God damn it it's gotten worse..." Citrine grumbles. "C'mon, let's get out of her, we don't have much further to walk."

Let's just move along.
>>
>>34224341
Get a hand on Luci and Nico's shoulders, we don't want them to draw attention to themselves, possibly giving indication to their actual identities, which would only further complicate the situation.

Try to get them to calm down, or at least direct their anger to more subtle methods of destruction.

Observe the crowd, see how much they're buying into the fucker's rant.

This is very much how-not-to-be-a-spy 101. Political agitator, sure, but not a spy.

Unless he's causing a distraction for an accomplice.

Or is trying to get brought in for questioning intentionally for something irritating but ultimately harmless so that he can gain access to somewhere he can find sensitive documents.
>>
>>34224527
>Unless he's causing a distraction for an accomplice.

What is that accomplice going to do, steal pocket money?
>>
>>34224549
Or kidnap a princess maybe?
>>
>>34224566

How would they know about our trip into town?
>>
>>34224566
Probably recon on the guards and nobles.

Kidnapping would be both hard and easy though. Hard to get close enough to collar the target but afterwards not so difficult to port the victim out.
>>
>>34224592
The theory is that they either already infiltrated the castle or Marie's excursions aren't as secret as Marianne thinks they are and this guy's just hanging around for an attack of opportunity.
>>
>>34224592
The assassin presumably know what Luci and Emilio look like so all they would have to do is play the waiting game.

>>34224609
Pretty much this
>>
>>34224733
>"You're a ember of the royal family,"

NICOLETTE'S ELEMENT IS FIRE.

YOU HEARD IT HERE FIRST.
>>
Better stop them before they do something stupid. Regardless of how much this guy may DESERVE to be punched in the face, drawing attention to yourselves is the exact OPPOSITE of what you want to be doing right now.

"Hey," you say, resting a hand on both Luciana and Nicolette's shoulders, "I know how you feel, but it's not worth it."
"The hell it ain't!" Nicolette shakes you off. "You expect me to just stand here and watch as this asshole talks shit about my-"
"Nicolette." Melanie firmly grasps her hand. "Don't."
"You're a member of the royal family," you say. "If someone recognizes that it's you who's beating on that moron, it'll just make OTHER morons think that the stuff he's saying is true."
"Exactly," Melanie nods.
"But he-" she turns to the man. "....god damn it," she mutters, covering her face with her hand.

>[1/?]

I wonder if Reinhold could (and should) challenge the guy to a 'debate'

And if he would stop himself from revealing a state secret or two.
>>
>>34224862

Reinhold doesn't strike me as a brilliant debater.

He'd probably spill all his spaghetti, especially since he's completely new at this politicking stuff.

According to my spell checker "politicking" is an actual word. What the fuck?
>>
>>34224862
Can't be any worse than Nico, its lucky she's a guard cos she would make a shitty politician

Gotta control those emotions.
>>
>>34224830

One down, one to go.

"And I'm sure you understand why -you- can't just run in there... right, -Violette?-" you say.
"Yes, you should take a moment to calm down," Takamaru says. "That man's insults are nothing more than the ranting of a fool, there is no need for you to pay it any mind."

Luciana doesn't respond to either of you, instead muttering something under her breath.

And now there's Script forming on the ground beneath... her...

kiss her Reinhold! It's the only way!
It worked last time.
>>
>>34224884

I don't think he'd do that poorly. He certainly doesn't have track record of losing it, so I think risk of spaghetti spilling is very low.

All he could do is calmly point out that Celestino has no reason to attack Granache and let the guy discredit himself with his incoherent rage.
>>
Everyone knows the real reason the borders closed is to prevent further women lost to the Reinbowl.

This. Better get reputation of a cheating manwhore than allow an incident like this.

Intercept!
Hold her head and make her look into our eyes.
"Stop. If you do this it will only support his cause."
>>
>>34224895

Reminder to never piss off Luciana. It would be a shame if we died in front of our kids and traumatized them.

>>34224924
Celestino could easily be painted as an empire-building wannabe by ignorant fuckers.

>>34224915

Half-tempted to ask for this.
>>
>>34224950

That is true, but why would he attack his closest allies when he's got at least one enemy for a neighbor that he hates with a passion? Any conflict with Granache would only weaken him and open him to an attack.

You know, when two guys fight, the third one benefits
>>

As Citrine realizes what's going on, she rushes over to Luciana's side.

"Waitwaitwaitdon't!" Citrine stammers. "you can't just blow him up for-"
"Really!" You join in. "That'd just make things WAY worse, and-"
"Hmph," Luciana glances in the direction of the idiot who's still in the middle of his rant.

Breathing a sigh of relief, you take her hand and pull her along while looking over at the speaker and his onlookers...

...and out of nowhere, a thick stream of water falls from the skies and crashes right on top of the man, completely drenching him.

"Thank God, now maybe he'll finally shut up!" a woman in the crowd yells.
"My brother-in-law's in Marconetti's Border Guard and they aren't doing SHIT to Granache!" a young man shouts.
"Quick, someone call a guard to take him aay before he starts up again!"

But it looks like someone already did just that, as Guards appear out of nowhere and accost the would-be rabblerouser.

"No! You can't silence me!" the man screams. "It's all a plot! Marconetti's gonna be the end of us all, just you watch! It's not too laaaaaaate!!"

"Idiot," Luciana scoffs as she glares in the man's general direction.
"Nice one," Nicolette says, patting her on the back.
"My first thought was to launch him into the sky, but Reinhold and Takamaru convinced me otherwise," she sighs. "I suppose this way worked out decently, though it was decidedly less satisfying."
"I thank you for showing restraint," Takamaru sighs, wiping the sweat from his brow. "Normally when people insult your father..."
"Yes, I know," Luciana takes a deep breath before turning to Citrine. "If you'd lead the way, Citrine?"
"Oh, um- yeah, of course!" Citrine stammers as she resumes guiding you and the others to her house.

You continue following Citrine for a few more blocks, keeping quiet out of fear that something else stupid will happen if you open your mouth. Managing to keep your girlfriend from maybe murdering a guy isn't something that you want to have to do twice in the same day, after all.

"Here we are!" Citrine says, stopping in front of a large residential building.
"Wow, the entire place is yours?" Melanie asks, taking a few steps back so that she can get a full view of the whole building.
"No, we just have the loft on the top," Citrine shrugs. "We moved in with the money that Marius made from his first big sale, and we've just kind of stuck around despite being able to afford a mansion by now..." she says as she opens up the door and leads you up a long flight of stairs. "I'm sure that we'll end up moving out sometime after the baby's born, but for now we have more than enough room."

>[1/?]
>>
We should ask Marius about getting a house with a room for us, once he upgrades. That way we have somewhere to crash when Marie finally gets so sick of our shit she wants us to leave for a week.
>>
>>34225482
In that case we could just go full crazy-NEET-artist in our room.

After a short walk up the stairs, Citrine unlocks a door at the end of the stairwell and waves the rest of you inside. Following her, you find yourself in a rather spacious dining room area.

"You can go ahead and put your things wherever, I don't mind," Citrine says as she opens the curtains in the room.
"Uh, alright," you reply as you place your bag on the table. "So this's your place..."
"Yup!" Citrine says with a warm smile. About half the area of this apartment's taken up by Marius's studio, but there's still plenty of space even with that."
"Huh," Nicolette says as she looks out the window. "you have a pretty nice view from up here."
"I thought do too!" Citrine laughs. "Though I'm sure that it's nothing compared to the view that you guys get..."
"Eh, it's got its own charm," she replies. "It's just a matter of if you prefer the city to the woods. And my room back at the castle's in the freaking basement, so there's no view to speak of at all there..."
"Eheh, that is true," Melanie nods. "All she has is a tiny window right up by the ceiling."

...yeah, I'm going to have to end this thread here. Getting kind of tired, and I'd rather not aggravate my still-crappy health any more than I already have.

You mind removing the "Talk while you walk" option? It only serves to halt the pacing.
Anyways: Thanks for the thread. Mad Luciana is best Luciana.
>>
>>34225664

Cheers. hoping you'll feel better next time.

Does Reinhold's room have a nice view? Marianne's?
Do you know what illness you got?
What was Volker's element? How about Agnes'?
What's Marianne and Karel's most noticeable physical difference?
>>
>>34225681
>and how does she know what her bedroom looks like
Guess.

>>34225700
>You mind removing the "Talk while you walk" option? It only serves to halt the pacing.
I try to give an option for you guys to ask stuff that I may not have considered, though I might overdo it with how often I do so.

>>34225703
>Does Reinhold's room have a nice view? Marianne's?
Both Marianne and Reinhold's rooms have the same very nice niew on accoiunt of being next to each other. Marianne has more windows, though.

>Do you know what illness you got?
Con crud, most likely.

>What was Volker's element? How about Agnes'?
Both Water.

>What's Marianne and Karel's most noticeable physical difference?
They're not identical in the face area, Karel's pretty well-toned as opposed to Marianne being generically "skinny," etc.

And now I sleep before my connection decides to competely kill itself. Thanks for playing!

Melanie had to enter Nicolette's room for cleaning duty, is that it?
