Ok, second thread of the night. Everyone still going strong? Haha. Probably not, but I'd really like to finish this as a oneshot!

First thread:
>>34257880

++

[x] Take advantage of the chaos to hit the third hangar- with the explosion, they'll be distracted if anyone's in there.

With the chaos out front still fresh, it's time to move. You unlock the door and look out, leading with your pistol- even the XM4 is a bit unwieldy here, though not too badly. You cross behind the second hangar and over to the third, forcing the lock and peeking inside- no one in here, yet. You can be sure there will be soon enough, though.

Inside the hangar, the modified strigon sits on the concrete, it's cockpit open. Next to it, the brand new strigon model strikers rest on a rack, their black paint job and prominent red star marking them as belonging to the guards witches. Those things will be trouble if they ever get out, you're positive.

However, the lack of guards does present an interesting opportunity. You could rig your strikers to blow and steal the new soviet strikers- it'd be a hell of an intelligence boon, if you could, damn near invalidating the whole line. You mull it over as you set the demolition charges on the strigon- timed, unfortunately- though you'll also set the missile beacon here as well, just to make sure.

You're still setting charges when the door opens and a pair of guards enter, with a dog. They've almost got time to be surprised before six well placed rounds hit- two in each guard and to on the dog. That's trouble. You're glad they waited until they were inside to turn around and see you, but they'll be missed shortly.

1/2
>>
You activate the beacon and toss it away, the powerful little radio transmitter screaming it's location to a satellite above- which, in turn, is sending it back to one of the Ohio-class Missiles subs. Armed with dozens of long range cruise missiles, the plan is to hammer this base into dust.

Of course, you activating it was the sign to launch- you're being timed now.

The demo charges are on a timer, though you can manually detonate them if you need to. That just leaves the question of how to spend the last little bit of time you have here.

[] Set a breaching charge on the wall, steal the strikers. It'd set the soviets back years, especially against what Merlin's cooking up!
[] Blow the strikers, no time to risk getting sick- and besides, you've got no provision for an airborne exfil of the area. You can use the little bit of time you have to sweep the hangar- maybe there's technical data floating around here on the fighter and the strikers!

[x] Blow the strikers, no time to risk getting sick- and besides, you've got no provision for an airborne exfil of the area. You can use the little bit of time you have to sweep the hangar- maybe there's technical data floating around here on the fighter and the strikers!

You don't really want to risk the chance of getting familiarization sickness right now, and besides that, you didn't set up anything for an airborne exfiltration. While you suppose you could always attempt the flight- it's only seven hundred or so miles to Scandinavia, which would be a hell of a stretch, but you think you could do it. Well, maybe. Could be they'd have to send in someone to pick you up off a beach somewhere, too.

You rig the soviet strikers to blow, keeping an eye on both the door you came in and the front- the last thing you want is to be surprised by security troops again. A quick pass around the hangar turns up nothing, but as you're on your way out, you spot something- a laptop, sitting closed on top of a tool chest. That's a hell of a score, and you stick it in one of your striker's now-empty leg bays before heading back for the door.

Peeking outside, you yank your head back- there's firefighters and security troops all over the place out there. None of them saw you, but getting out is going to be a challenge. If you can make the woods on the other side of the base, you'll be in the clear.

1/2
>>
It's a big if. You peek around the corner again, trying to stay behind the door as much as possible, and, when all eyes are focused elsewhere, you bolt, getting the hangar building between you and the bodies.

Of course, they'd have foot patrols out- a surprised shout gives you the warning you need, the guard's fire smearing off your shield as your XM4 sweeps up, the 5.56 rounds punching clean through the first guard's neck in a messy smear, the second guard only having time to fire another round before you put three into him- a Mozambique drill, with the third shot hitting as he was falling.

But their gunfire is going to have attracted attention, it's well and truly time to leave.

[x] Go slow, methodical, and as quiet as you can. They know you're here, but not where, exactly.

The gunfire having attracted attention, you need to move. You move towards the back of the third hangar in line- closer to the water, where you want to be. You can't go back inside, especially not now, but the nearest piece of hard cover isn't that close- you could make it at a sprint, but you'd be seen for sure.

Finally, though, you realize you have to move- your luck holds, too, letting you get behind the parked fuel trucks- you're frankly amazed there's no security troops here, though it's also possible these are empty.

You're about to move again- taking a peek over through the windows of the truck- when more bad news appears in the form of a pair of tank witches. Shit.

They haven't seen you yet either, and you're able to move to the fuel dump without being caught. From here, it's just a short stretch into the woodline, and from there, you're clear.

The tank witches, still paired up, move out, making a beeline for the third hangar- no way they're going to miss the demolition charges. You pull out your detonator and wait.

[] Hit it now, before they get in. Don't want to kill them if we can avoid it.

Silently, you apologize to the two witches- they're guards, you know, and they'll shoot to kill same as if you weren't a witch, but they're still witches, and killing them has never come easy.

Then again, a lot of things in your life haven't been easy, and waiting for the men to open the doors. They won't see the demolition charges until they're inside- and you note that both the witches move in as well. Careless, foolish, and stupid of them. If they'd have stayed outside, there was no chance of you ambushing them, they'd have had space to put their mobility to work- and time to react.

Maybe you're just mad because their mistake means you kill them as you hit the detonator, sending the hangar up in a column of flame as the charges do their job- you note, somewhat wryly, that the strigon must have been fueled as well.

The debris scythes through the crews outside, still fighting the fires from the four strigons outside, cutting some down. In the new round of chaos, you slip away into the wood line, leaping the parameter fence beyond and slipping back into the water.

Puppies, you say?
>>
The swim north takes longer- soviet patrol boats run up and down the coast, and the air cover in the area increases exponentially after the sub-launched cruise missiles start slamming into the base, wiping out anything left there. You don't see them hit- you're already nearly an hour upriver by that point, but you hear and feel the impact of the fuel dump and ammo dump going up.

Finally, you make it into the main channel, and from there, into the bay. It's a relatively quiet swim into the waters of the Pechora sea and the airlock of a waiting submarine.

You're met inside by a SEAL, who hands you a towel. “How did it go?” He asks.

You shrug. “De same as every other time. Git de job done, don nobody be de wiser.”

He nods. “We're headed back to Scapa Flow. Guess you're headed to Poland?” He grins. “You trying to stay close to someone finally, Brigitte?”

You grin back. “Dat ain't bein none of your business, Justin, no. I tink I not be tellin ya.”

He clasps both hands over his heart in mock pain. “I'm heartbroken. The mother of night herself, chasing some dude. He's lucky.”

“He don't know how lucky he be.”

>Haha, TIME FOR RAIKOV

“Ivanna Raikov.”

The name came as a statement, not a question. Raikov was used to this. By this point anybody who came to see her knew her name. For the past weeks, she had been endlessly questioned and interrogated by the Americans. Whatever organization they were from, she couldn’t care less. They all wanted her give them information: about herself, about Volgin, about her glorious country. Thankfully, she had resisted all of their attempts. When they offered her an amnesty deal if she was willing to defect, she merely laughed, tore up the paper they gave her, and spat in the face of the man who dared insult her loyalty.

Well, if Raikov had one thing to like about the Americans, it was that they were weak when it came to the treatment of prisoners--particularly witches. Every time they came to interrogate her, they would be accompanied by a witch, whom identified herself as a representative of the American witch community. She was there to ensure that Raikov was treated fairly and humanely. As a result, her interrogators never dared attempt their “enhanced” techniques on her.

Still, it grew tiring, as they would have her brought out every day. Eventually, she gave in a little and talked. She always made sure she would never say anything too damaging, though. Just enough to make the Americans think they were eroding away at her will to resist. She would give them troop strengths and deployments she already knew were weeks or even months out of date, and random personal details of the few Soviet officers whose existence she had bothered committing to memory.

However, it was rare for them to ask her something that she genuinely did want to talk about. And that day eventually came.

“Tell me about Afghanistan.” Her nameless interrogator said--in Russian, of course. It was poorly accented and a bit stiff in places, but she could still understand the meaning.

“Ahhhh, Afghanistan. Many good memories.” Raikov smiled for the first time in a long time. “Why would you want to know? It is an old war, and I have no doubt that traitor Litvyak told you everything.”

“We just want to get your side of the story. To get the facts straight.” The interrogator continued calmly. “We know you were there for a good portion of the war, and earned the nickname the ‘White Wolf’. Other than that, a lot of what you did has been shrouded in myth and hearsay. Not even the Soviet documents we recovered for that period of time can accurately account for your actions in detail.”

“Ah, well, it’s going to take a while. It happened many years ago.” Raikov smiled nostalgically.

“We have nothing but time here, Miss Raikov.” The interrogator responded.

---

Lieutenant Ivanna Raikov was jolted awake as her Hind shook. Immediately, her head darted from side to side to check for damage, fearing that she was under attack from anti-aircraft fire. She quickly realized that it was just a bit of turbulence.

“Have a nice nap, Princess?” One of the men in the Hind with her, Captain Orlov, smirked.

The rest of the Spetsnaz team chuckled at her expense. Raikov was about to rebuke them for insulting her, but ultimately kept her mouth shut. These men had been fighting in Afghanistan for years now. Raikov and her fellow witches had only recently been deployed, now that the Afghan insurgency was showing no signs of stopping, as well as the increasing use of rebel witches becoming a larger problem for the Russian ground forces. These men had years of combat experience, and Raikov knew that if she were to survive this war, she would need to make a good impression on them.

“It was a long flight down here.” She said simply, and pointed to the large, bulky tank striker she was wearing. “And I can’t exactly move much while like this.”

“Well, you could go back to sleep again.” One of the men chortled. “Being in the air is the safest place you can be in Afghanistan.”

“We have trouble ahead.” The pilot warned. Raikov, Orlov, and the rest of the Spetsnaz team poked their heads out of the Hind’s side doors to get a better view and saw columns of smoke rising a few miles away.

“What is our status?” Orlov asked.

“We still have plenty of fuel and munitions.” The pilot reported.

“Then we will go investigate. Inform the others to follow us in.”

With that, the Hind tilted forward as it sped up. Behind it, two more Hinds, each carrying another one of Raikov’s fellow tank witches, followed suit.

“Are you sure we should be doing this? It’s not part of the mission.” Raikov said worriedly.

“When you fight in this godforsaken desert long enough, you learn to ‘reinterpret’ parts of the mission.” Orlov said with a slight smile. “Besides, if somebody wants to arrest us, they are free to come out here and try.”

Raikov merely nodded and stayed quiet.

In a few minutes, the Hinds finally reached the source of the smoke. Raikov could see Orlov visibly scowl. Down below, there appeared to be a Russian convoy on a road, under attack by Mujahideen. It was already looking bad, though. Many of the trucks in the convoy were burning, while there were a few BTRs that were disabled or immobilized. Raikov activated her magical senses, and her vision sharpened so she could get a closer look at the action.

“What do you see, Princess?” Orlov asked.

Apparently Boss Merc got in first. Haha.
Anyway, here goes~

THE AIR skirmish has been going on for almost thirty minutes now, and things are

starting to look grim for Talos squadron.

They went in, thinking they can pick off the French Mirages that were strafing

frontier defenses on the border; they had not factored in that this was an obvious

feint by the other side to draw out their air assets and neutralize them, thereby

clearing a breakthrough path. This serious lapse in judgement will not go well with

headquarters; but that is a problem for another day, and now isn't the best time to

worry about it.

They were heavily outnumbered now, with three of their SU-27's getting shot down,

two MiG-23's badly damaged and had to ditch, and the rest-- mostly MiG-29's-- have

spent most of their R-27 and R-73 loadouts and are rapidly depleting their cannon

rounds. Captain of Aviation Suslov surveyed the situation and cursed himself under his breath for his blunder. He forgot to factor in the bolstered American air presence in the area, a fact that is ripping his squadron apart now.

"Why did it have to be Ramstein?" Suslov said to himself, as two F-15C's swooped in for a weave that almost caught him unaware, forcing him to bank hard right and push for altitude. "To think they'd be able to deploy this fast to support the French on this push..." He was still muttering to himself when his radio went alive with an alarmed wingman coming on.

"Talos-1! Talos-1! This is Talos-5! I'm picking up more inbound bandits! I say again, more bandits inbound! They'll be he-" The report chopped off to an explosion before leaving nothing but static. "Talos-5?! Talos-5, respond! Respond, dammit!"
Suslov almost banged his fist on the dash of his battered MiG, before regaining his composure enough to look over to his left. To his horror, he espied a group of British Tornados, swooping in from the west in what is starting to be a furball of
very messy proportions.

The whole thing was a mess. Bodies of both Russian soldiers and Mujahideen fighters were strewn on and next to the road. She could see dozens of robed Mujahideen fighters scrambling out of the rocks they were hiding behind, rushing the remnants of the convoy. There were also four figures that were moving with unnatural speed and grace. Raikov realized that they were witches, just without strikers. The top hatch of one of the BTRs opened up, and the gunner attempted to man the pintle mounted machine gun to defend the vehicle. However, before he can even get his hands on the handles, one of the witches leaped into the air, landed on the top of the BTR and sliced the gunner’s head clean off with a scimitar. She then reached into her robes and dropped a pair of grenades into the open hatch, leaping clear as the BTR caught fire and exploded.

Meanwhile, the other witches were mopping up any remaining soldiers that attempted to put up resistance. Up close, even without strikers, witches were extremely difficult to fight, even for the hardiest Russian. At the rear of the convoy, the rest of the Mujahideen fighters were dragging captured Russian soldiers out of their vehicles and into the desert.

“Should we intervene?” The pilot asked.

“Strafe the convoy.” Orlov stated simply.

“Affirmative.”

“But we still have men down there!” Raikov turned to the Spetsnaz captain. “We aren’t going to attempt to rescue them?”

“We ARE rescuing them.” Orlov said grimly, staring hard at Raikov. “Better a quick death than be tortured at the hands of the Mujahideen.”

The trio of Hinds move into firing formation. The Mujahideen fighters look up in alarm as they see the gunships arrive, and they begin to scatter, trying to reach the relative safety of the rocks. However, it’s too late for them, as the Hinds open up with their rocket pods, showering the entire area in explosive death and destruction. The Hinds then banked and orbited the area to see if another strafing run was needed. Raikov scanned the ground carefully, now scorched black from the assault. She couldn’t see any signs of movement. Either all of the fighters were killed in the initial strafing run, or the survivors made it among the rocks. Either way, there was nothing more that could be done. The Hinds banked again, now returning to their original heading.

“Does this happen often?” Raikov asked Orlov as she still gazed back at the burning remains of the convoy.

“Mujahideen ambushes occur all the time.” Orlov shrugged. “But most of the time, they’re content with destroying a vehicle or killing a soldier or two. Very rarely do they attack in full scale like that. They must have been feeling particularly confident today.”

“I see...” Raikov frowned.

“I will tell you right now, Princess.” Orlov grunted. “Afghanistan is not a nice place. You will have to do many questionable things in order to survive. Whether you are a witch, Spetsnaz, or even a conscript, it is all the same.”

Raikov was again quiet as the Hinds continued on to their destination. Eventually, they landed on a dusty hill and pulled away once everybody had disembarked. Raikov’s fellow witches, Anya and Mariya, quickly linked up with her.

“Did you see what they did, Ivanna?” Anya frowned. “They fired on their own troops!”

“Without remorse, either!” Mariya hissed. “These men are not natural!”

“I would not be so sure.” Raikov shook her head, Orlov’s grim words still echoing in her mind. “Regardless, they are the ones with the experience, so we can only stand back and observe.”

“O-of course.” Anya nodded.

“Oi, Princess!” Orlov hollered from the top of the hill. “Your services are needed!”

“You two stay here and keep an eye out.” Raikov ordered. “You can never be sure when the Mujahideen will try to ambush us.”

“Yes, Lieutenant!” Both Anya and Mariya saluted.

Raikov then activated her strikers and rolled up the hill where Orlov and some of his men were gathered. They were observing a small village in the valley below. Their mission was to sweep the village to look for rebel presence, so Raikov wondered why Orlov had the Hinds set them down so far away.

“What do you need, Captain?” Raikov asked.

“Can you use those senses of your to see if there is rebel activity in the village?” Orlov pointed. “It would be much safer than having to physically check.”

“Let me see.” Raikov closed her eyes and took a deep breath, activating her enhanced sense of smell. Fortunately for her, the wind was blowing in her direction, so she’d be able to smell everything. She mentally filtered out all of the regular smells produced by humans at any given time, focusing on anything that stood out, and she found it.

Gun oil, gunpowder, and plastic explosive. All tools used by the rebels, and items that a supposedly unarmed village would never possess.

“I believe there are rebels in that village.” Raikov said, arming her cannon and powering up her shields. “Do we move in?”

“No need for that.” Orlov shook his head. “If you’re certain, then we will just call in the artillery.”

“What about the civilians?” Raikov gasped.

“There are no ‘civilians’ in a place like this, Princess.” Orlov shook his head. “In a war where civilians and Mujahideen are almost indistinguishable from one another, would you really take the risk of charging into that village? For all we know every single one of them in there a rebel fighter.”

“But they might not be!” Raikov protested.

“The fact that they may be is reason enough.” Orlov nodded to his radio man, who began barking firing coordinates into his radio. “Plus, the Army has just deployed a new artillery piece and Command wants us to test it. This is just as good a target as any.”

Raikov could hear it long before she could see it, the screech of incoming rockets. She watched in a mix of awe and shock as rockets landed on and round the town, but they didn’t explode like she expected. Instead, the rockets combusted on impact, spreading fire and flames in all directions like napalm.

“W-what is this?!” Raikov gasped.

“We call it the Little Burratino.” Orlov grinned as he watches the flames spread. “Why risk our lives clearing a village when we can just burn them out?”

Indeed, there were the telltale pops and bangs of secondary explosions as stored munitions were set off by the extreme heat. However, that wasn’t what Raikov was focused on. With her enhanced senses, she could HEAR the people in the village screaming as they burned alive. But what was worse was when the wind began blowing in their direction, and she caught a whiff of the SMELL. The stench of burning meat, burning HUMAN meat, invaded Raikov’s magically sensitive nostrils and she keeled over, vomiting the contents of her earlier meal all over the desert sand. Anya and Mariya rushed over to help her while the rest of the Spetsnaz looked on with a mix of bemusement, pity, and empathy.

"At this rate, we'll just be delaying our deaths..." Suslov sighed, feeling an odd sort of calmness. "We can delay them at least, and when the poor bastards on the ground find our bodies we'd probably get medals." Resigned to his fate, Suslov was about to announce on the squadron radio that he'd treat the surviving pilots to some beer "if" they returned home, when his IFF transponder started beeping. "I don't remember asking headquarters for additional forces.."

Then he felt a chill down his spine when a female voice went on. "It seems you and your boys are taking your sweet time, Talos-1."

Just managing to avoid another Skyflash, Suslov leveled his wings and looked over to his right for a short while, before finally seeing the stuff of his nightmares.

“Is this... is this what it’s like for you every day?” Raikov coughed as she tried to clear her throat.

“Some days are better than others.” Orlov shrugged.

---

“Yes, we’ve heard the reports of your forces employing thermobaric weaponry in the war.” The interrogator nodded. “We’ve heard many firsthand accounts.”

“I’m sure.” Raikov snorted.

“What did you do since then?” The interrogator asked.

“Just simple patrols.” Raikov shrugged. “Boring stuff. We’d get a report of Mujahideen activity, and we’d ride out with gunship support. The gunships scattered their forces and we mopped up what was left. Rather, Orlov and his men mopped up everything. My fellow witches and I were usually kept back as reserve, in case the Mujahideen had vehicles. Other than that, fighting was light.”

“All right, let’s skip ahead.” The interrogator continued. “1986.”

Raikov paused for a second before cackling with laughter. The interrogator and the witch observer both glanced at each other before turning back to Raikov.

“Miss Raikov?”

“1986 was the year I was born.” Raikov smiled

A young witch with shoulder-length blonde hair and piercing blue eyes, flying an Su-27 striker unit, was now in view. Wearing a VDV beret and a black, unmarked flight jacket, she quickly dove into the action, helping a badly damaged MiG-29 shake off a Tornado before aiming her all-black finish AK-74 into the horizon, firing a couple of rounds and hitting a loitering EF-111.

"Comrade Major Ilyushinka! What are you doing here?!" Suslov said, flying alongside the witch after she handily evaded a Sidewinder--a Sidewinder!-- with what seemed like a pirouette maneuever. "This is a far too dangerous location to be in right now..." he added, nervousness evident in his voice.

Major of Aviation Olga Ilyushinka looked over her shoulder to Suslov, with an expression that looked playful but what Talos-1 knew from experience was the face of a seriously displeased senior officer. "We at headquarters had been wondering why you were taking so long shooting down a feW flimsy French steelwings," she started, and as she did so, she fired her 74 at another Mirage, promptly damaging it. "I went ahead and looked for you, and what do I find?" A few short bursts from her rifle scattered two Tornadoes tailing them.

"Comrade Major--"
"Stuff it up for your report, Talos-1," Ilyushinka quipped, cutting Suslov off. "For now, order your surviving pilots to withdraw. You're sticking with me until we could drive these fighters off." Suddenly she drew what appeared to be a shashka with her left hand. "Oh, and by the way, Talos-1," she added. "Please stick to call signs while on mission, alright?"

"I... Well... Er, understood, Aida-1," Suslov meekly responded, knowing full well that hell awaits him once he turns in his after-action report.

Another day, another patrol. By this time, flying out over the Afghan wastes had become routine. Raikov looked lazily out the door as the desert below flashed by in a blur. Orlov, as always, took a seat opposite from her as he gazed out the door as well. However, she noticed that he was a bit more focused, on edge, as if he were expecting something.

“Is something the matter, sir?” Raikov asked.

“It’s nothing.” Orlov grumbled.

Raikov wondered if that was really the case, though. Rumors were starting to filter though the base that the Mujahideen had a new weapon capable of shooting down helicopters, and even jet fighters. Of course, there was no proof, and the officers were quick to clamp down on such rumors every time they surfaced. But every rumor had a grain of truth to it, or at least that was how the saying went. She was sure Orlov didn’t want to say anything to keep his men from worrying.

Suddenly, Raikov heard the whump and hiss of a missile launch, which confused her at first, since she didn’t recall anybody giving the pilot the order to fire his weapons. She didn’t have much time to think on it, though, as the tail of Anya’s Hind exploded, causing the entire craft to spin uncontrollably. The radio started blaring with screams and calls for help.

A split second later, Mariya’s helicopter was hit and was sent plummeting to the ground. Raikov powered up her shield in an effort to protect her craft. However, an incoming missile slammed into the opposite side of the helicopter, sending the whole thing spinning. It took all of Raikov’s strength to keep her grip, and she could only watch helplessly as her squadmates were literally ripped out of the passenger compartment and sent screaming into the sky. She saw Orlov try to shout something to her, until everything went black.

IN JUST the first five minutes after Ilyushinka entered the fray, things took a quick turn. She was handily dispatching enemy fighters, scoring at least three kills with her rifle and another two with her shashka. Once, an F-15C almost got the drop on her, coming in from behind her and rapidly firing its gun. Without warning, Olga cut off the power to her strikers, entered a slow turn up and left, neatly grazing the top of the American steelwing's canopy and, with a quick movement, shot through it three times with a magic-enhanced Makarov aiming straight for the avionics before "pinning the throttle" in time to see it crashing down.

Another instance, she had three oppossing steelwings on her tail, and another two swooping in from her eight o'clock. In a move that even Suslov described as "utter load of witch craziness", Ilyushinka was dodging rounds left and right, executing Pugachevs but not entirely cutting back enough to get behind the steelwings. In the middle of what appeared to be another cobra, Olga suddenly clawed for altitude, telling Talos-1 to "distract them for a bit", to which the confused Suslov quickly obliged. Moments later, Ilyushinka dove in, catching sight of an F-15C trailing her bewildered wingmate, and seconds later, slashed the steelwing crosswise with the shashka, and damaging a Tornado's fin with the shockwave.

The opposition, after recovering their wits from seeing a fighter sliced clean like steak, came in with guns blazing to bring down the two of them; some even managed to get missiles in the melee. While Suslov pinned the throttle and went for a low yo-yo to shake off the missiles, he watched in horror as Ilyushinka just hovered there, shashka poised in front of her like she was an honor guard in salute. Then a second chill ran down his spine when he realized what Aida-1 was about to do.

When Raikov finally regained consciousness, she found herself tangled up in the twisted and burning remains of the Hind. Burnt bodies and wreckage surrounded her, and she wasn’t sure if anybody was still alive. She tried to move, but found her legs were pinned under what was left of the Hind’s engine. Panicking, Raikov struggled to try and free herself.

“Princess!” A voice hissed.

Raikov looked up to see Orlov, bleeding, burnt, and battered from the crash. He crawled towards her. From his wounds, Raikov knew he wasn’t going to make it, and she had a feeling Orlov knew, too. Regardless, Orlov crawled forward and hit her striker’s emergency release.

“Run.” He croaked.

“Orlov-“

“RUN!” He bellowed.

Following Orlov’s orders, Raikov promptly pulled her legs free from her strikers and scrabbled her way out of the wreckage. She paused to look back, and saw Orlov slumped over her strikers, unmoving.

However, before she had a chance to mourn or move, Raikov felt a hard impact on the back of her head, filling her vision with exploding stars. She felt her face hit the hot desert sand as robed men swarmed all over her, tying her hands and dragging her away. At this point, Raikov’s mind finally caught up to current events and she realized that she had just been captured. Her heart froze at the realization, as she had heard many horror stories about what the Mujahideen did to Russians they captured. Who knew what they would do to a Russian witch!

The Mujahideen dragged Raikov several meters away from the crash site, where she saw Anya and Mariya, similarly tied up and forced to their knees. They both looked absolutely terrified, and Raikov couldn’t blame them.

“Stay strong, Comrades.” Raikov said to them. “Stay strong and remember-“

"Let's head back, Talos-1, I believe they got the message," Ilyushinka said to her wingmate, a bemused smile on her face. Sure enough, the remaining fighters were already bugging out, apparently not planning to add to the statistics of steelwing pilots humiliated by witches--or a witch--they outnumbered.

Suslov though, was pretty much quaking in his cockpit. He'd have to ready his recruit training uniform when he gets down on the ground, since that's where the Major will send him and his surviving pilots, like she did for the others before him.

"THE MAINTENANCE chief reports that it will at least take them five more days to refit Suslov's steelwings, Comrade Major," a rather steely-eyed starshina reported to a less-than-amused Ilyushinka. "On top of that, he lost a third of his pilots, and High Command can't afford to--"

"Lev," Olga started, taking off her shashka and beret and laying them on a rack. "I have less time to worry about the lack of replacement pilots and am far more concerned with the lot we have now." He gave the starshina a look over, stunning the junior a bit and forcing him to straighten up and look dead ahead.

"Er... Um... Yes, of course, Comrade Major." Lev, who by this time was trying to keep a straight face, almost recoiled when he heard the Major say in a smoother, more relaxed tone, "Now my dear Lev, if you could be a good boy and let me have some time alone?" Then she went over and straight up sat on her desk, loosening up her tunic. "That is, of course, if you don't want to join me--"

"By your leave, Comrade Major," Lev replied, clicking his heels, saluting, turning to walk briskly out of the room and locking the door behind him in one swift movement.

One of the fighters yelled something in Arabic and slammed the butt of his rifle into Raikov’s stomach, causing her to wheeze in pain. Raikov got the message and stopped talking.

While she couldn’t understand Arabic, Raikov could guess at what the Mujahideen were up to just by their body language and tone of voice. They seemed to be in a big hurry, as they were quickly gathering up weapons and personal effects, as well as a few trophies from Orlov’s slain men. What concerned her, though, was the sight of two fighters in a very heated argument. The way they kept glancing back at her, Anya, and Mariya suggested that they were trying to decide what to do with them. Raikov tested her bonds, but they were very tight and very strong. The Mujahideen were aware of how powerful witches were and had prepared accordingly. Even then, Raikov was too exhausted from the crash to do much of anything, and she was sure Anya and Mariya were the same. All Raikov could to at this point was pray.

Finally, the Mujahideen seemed to have come to a decision. One of the fighters takes position behind Anya, who couldn’t see what was going on. However, the sound of guns being loaded and armed told them everything they needed to. Raikov turned her head just in time to see three fighters unload their AKs into Mariya’s back. Mariya’s shields, if she even had the strength to keep them up, couldn’t have protected her from that assault. Her body was literally shredded, spattering blood all over her two friends as her body toppled to the ground. Anya at that point completely lost it and started crying and struggling in fear. Another burst of AK fire, and Anya wasn’t crying anymore.

Raikov tried to hold in her tears. If she was going to die here, she might as well die with some dignity. She closed her eyes and bit her lip as she heard her executioners reloading their rifles. Even when faced with certain death, she prayed for something, anything, to save her.

Olga chuckled at the gesture, satisfied that he managed to let off part of the tension she was feeling after the "little affair at the border" earlier. She glanced over to her saber and beret, whispering to herself, "Dear Brother, I wish I'd just joined you in the Airborne." She then made her way to her Bosendorfer, lifted the cover, and sat herself down. After taking a deep breath, she let her fingers rest on the white keys, and in a few moments the room was filled with the somber notes of first notes of Rachmaninoff's Isle of the Dead.

Not long after she started the second part of the piece, she suddenly spoke out, "You do know that it is rude to be listening to someone playing on the piano while hiding behind the curtain like some burglar, yes?"

And then she came out. A young witch, probably no more than 15, was holding her arms up in a mock surrender. She had her short auburn hair tied up in a ponytail, and was wearing a flight jacket loosely open to reveal an equally disheveled tunic underneath, as well as a pair of pretty short pants. Despite the unkempt look, her gray eyes were up and finely alert, like a bird of prey hiding behind snow-covered evergreens.

"As expected of the Kubinka Dandy," the younger witch said in jest. "Although I'd prefer you played Faure's Sicilienne. Rachmaninoff is just too wistful for my taste." She then made her way to a chair near Olga's desk and sat without a by-your-leave, raising her legs on top for good measure.

"And to whom do I owe the honor of a visit from the death-seeking Red Wolf of Seelow?" Olga was well within the last part of the piece, so she didn't even look when she said that. In her mind, however, she remembered the news about a young answered the witch who scored both an earful of acid and an Order of Glory from her superiors on her first-ever mission.

Sadly, Raikov had to admit that despite her best efforts, she jumped in fright when she heard the first gunshot. However, she then realized she was still alive to notice. She instinctively ducked when she heard more gunfire, surprised that none of it was hitting her. When she finally summoned the courage to open her eyes again, she saw all of the Mujahideen surrounding her were dead. Confused, Raikov could only stare dumbly as more robed figures emerged from just beyond her peripheral vision. They looked similar to the Mujahideen, but they moved differently. There was a certain strength and determination to their movement, something that set them apart from the Mujahideen’s signature skulking.

One of the robed figures kneels beside her and draws a knife. Raikov froze in fear for a moment but sighed in relief when the man only used it to cut her bonds.

“Are you all right, miss?” The man asked in Russian.

“Y-yes.” Raikov stammered. “Who are you?”

“Captain Volgin. GRU.” A loud, powerful voice boomed. Raikov looked up to see a tower of a man, who dwarfed everybody around him. Scars crisscrossed his face like a spiderweb, which only served to make him look even more menacing, even when the only expression he was showing was concern. “I am sorry, we arrived too late to save your comrades.”

Raikov was still too shocked to really reply to that.

“You are bleeding!” Volgin frowned and pointed to her face. Raikov put a hand against her cheek and realized it was cut, no doubt from the crash. “Medic!”

Raikov suddenly felt very, VERY tired, and dizzy. Even as the medic came sprinting forward, her vision began to fade and the last thing she remembered was the sensation of falling.

Junior Lieutenant of Aviation Tatyana Budanova, for her part, took it as a well-natured jab about her way of doing things, and simply replied, "I'd have you know, Major, that I've already forgotten about my death wishing. You on the other hand," she espied a picture frame on the desk displaying the rest of the officers of the 226th Mixed Aviation Regiment, which included an unsmiling Major Ilyushinka. "You need to see someone about your habit of picking on lower-ranked soldiers-- like what you did to poor Lev earlier."

Olga had at this time finished on the piano and was already turned to face the lieutenant and, seeing Tatyana's extremely relaxed appearance on her own desk of all places, shook her head in disbelief while responding,"That is a problem for another day, dear Lieutenant." She crossed her arms and switched to a more serious tone before continuing. "As to why you are here, in my office, without any advance message of any sort..."

"Ah, don't be worrying yourself about that Major," Budanova quipped, arms now crossed behind her head lazily. "I'm just a normal witch of the Union, enjoying a well-earned rest from all the fighting on the front." Her eyes started to wonder around the office. "You don't happen to have any Glenfiddich around here, do you? It's been that kind of day, really." She practically went to the nearby wetbar herself, casually opening it up and helping herself to whatever she could find.

"Junior Lieutenant Budanova, you do know that what you are doing will only add up to your list of misdemeanor reports, yes?" Olga was somewhere between disbelief, annoyance, and amusement as she watched the younger witch raiding her bar. "I do believe it is time to explain yourself, and--Hey! I was keeping that for dinner!" But it was too late; Tatyana had already wolfed down the club sandwich she had in her right hand, while making her way to a sofa in the corner of the office with her haul.

“So that was the first time you met Colonel Volgin.” The interrogator nodded.

“Well, he was still a mere captain at the time.” Raikov shrugged.

“What happened afterwards?”

Raikov merely gave a toothy smile and leaned forward on the table. To his credit, the interrogator stood his ground and stoically stared back at her.

“You know how they say you always remember your first kill? Well, I made sure to make my especially memorable.”

---

Raikov opened her eye a crack to check her surroundings. She didn’t see anybody around so she slowly slipped out of her cot. Volgin was kind enough to give Raikov her own private quarters, for her own privacy. Volgin and his men had set up camp in an ancient and ruined temple, but it was still structurally sound and protected from the elements as well as possible attack. She had been staying with them for the past few days, as it would take a while until their resupply convoy would arrive, where she could hitch a ride back to her home base.

Raikov’s bare feet quietly pattered along the cold stone floor as she snuck past sleeping GRU soldiers and half-awake sentries. She moved with drive and purpose, as there was something she had to do. Eventually, Raikov came to a large iron gate barring passage to a staircase leading down to the temple’s crypts. She pulled out a key she had pilfered from one of the sentries and inserted it into the lock as quietly as possible. The gate’s ancient hinges creaked and moaned as they slid open, causing Raikov to pause to see if the sound had roused anybody. Confident she had not been discovered yet, Raikov slipped through the open gate and tiptoed down the stairs.

"I... what.. Excuse me, Lieutenant?"

"Me, I'm going to get me a dacha somewhere in Peredelkino; you know, not too far from Moscow? Kudryavka isn't really too keen on city life, but at least the dachas there aren't too noisy. Besides, there's just enough space there for a growing Caucasian Shepherd like her." Tatyana took another munch on her apple before continuing. "Then I'll definitely sign up for the cosmonaut program. Kudryavka's coming along of course; she already hates that I left her behind right now."

"I honestly do not get what you are driving at, Lieutenant," was all Olga could muster after that.

"I just want this war to end, Major. that's all there is to it," Budanova replied, suddenly sounding serious, although she was still engrossed in the Tolstoy she had in her hand to even face Olga. "Seeing your friends dropping left and right like flies, coming home from a mission almost entirely alone... you know the feeling, yes? You were in Afghanistan, after all..."

"That's enough rambling, Junior Lieutenant." Ilyushinka was still as calm as ever, but the firmness in her voice meant business. "I still have no idea about this whole mess of you being in my office, but to satisfy your curiosity, yes, I fully know that feeling." Her mind's eye briefly drifted to the image of Bagram, of fallen friends in Arghandab, and finally, of her own brother on Hill 3234. That distracted her for but a moment before she resumed speaking. "I also plan to join the Bolshoi, just as I planned after Afghanistan. But that is beside the point. Right now, I can't let myself be distracted by such trivialties. If you let your emotions get the best of you, you will never be able to end any conflict. We have our orders, and it is by those orders that we can finish this war sooner."

And there, chained up and tied down to a chair, was a Mujahideen witch. Raikov assumed she was a prisoner of some sort. Volgin never mentioned her existence, but Raikov could hear her labored breathing, and the smell of her sweat. Now that Raikov could actually see the witch, she could tell that she had seen better days. The Mujahideen witch was covered in bandages and bruises, as well as numerous burns. No doubt from various tortures enacted on her by Volgin and his men.

Just days before, Raikov would have felt sympathy for this witch. Hell, she might have even tried to help her with her wounds, or even help her escape. But now, Raikov only felt anger and contempt. A bubbling fury with the knowledge that it was witches like her, toting American Stinger missile launchers that caused deaths of Orlov and her friends.

The Mujahideen witch saw Raikov’s approach, and glared at her, her eyes still burning with defiance. Whatever Volgin and his men did, it wasn’t enough to break this witch’s spirit. At least not yet. The witch was gagged so she couldn’t say anything, but Raikov suspected she couldn’t speak a single word of Russian, anyways. Not that it mattered. Raikov wasn’t here to talk.

Without hesitation, Raikov lunged forward and clamped her hands around the other witch’s throat. The witch’s eyes widened in fear and surprise and she struggled, but her bonds made sure Raikov would meet no resistance. Raikov held firm, keeping her grip tight as the witch gasped and gurgled under her gag, her entire body thrashing and twitching as she struggled for air. Finally, after one final spasm, the witch’s body fell limp, her eyes blankly staring off into space.

"Oh, cut me the rousing speech, Dandy," came the surprisingly spirited response from an irate Tatyana. "You and I know full well that what you're saying is an utter load of bull. Hell you don't even believe a word you said right now!" She stood up, straight off dropped everything she had on the sofa, and continued, "This entire war with the West is utterly pointless, and you know it. There's only so much we can do in this conflict, and once we've expended everything, the enemies we've made will destroy us entirely."

Olga stood there for a full five seconds, seemingly unsure what to retort.

Then the gears in her head started rolling, and it all clicked together.

"I applaud your sincerity, dear Lieutenant," Olga began, her voice sounding alarmingly calm. "And I must say seeing your sheer disregard for authority in person was quite the experience." Then she put on a playful smile before adding, "From what I have seen in you, however, there is more to this than just some random ramblings."

Raikov took a step back to observe her work. She thought she would’ve felt something. Regret? Fear? Anger? But she felt only felt relief. Relief that she wasn’t completely useless. She also felt... a sort of pleasure. An enjoyment seeing the life drain from another person’s eyes as they died...

“You know, if you had wanted to drag things out, you should have occasionally loosened your grip to allow her to breathe a bit.” A low voice grunted. “It would have lasted longer.”

Raikov’s heart froze and she spun around to see Volgin emerge from the shadows. Had he been there the entire time?

“I’m sorry, sir, I-“

“No apologies. You are new at this.” Volgin grinned, and put a massive hand on her shoulder. “How did it make you feel?”

“It... it felt good.” Raikov admitted, looking down on her hands. They weren’t even trembling. “She deserved it. They all deserve nothing but a slow death...”

“Good. Good.” Volgin grinned. “You should stay with us. I can teach you so much. How to not only kill your enemies, but to make them SUFFER. Not only eliminate them, but to BREAK them. What do you say?”

Raikov didn’t even hesitate. She glanced at the body of the dead Mujahideen witch.

“Do you have more?”

Tatyana sighed, pocketed her hands and, looking away, muttered, "Seriously, that old geezer expects ME to get YOU in on all this? And then he still expects that I will be able to cooperate with you? Madness." She then turned to pick up her loot from the sofa, although she did return the Tolstoy on the shelf. "We know well enough that you hate this war as much as we do, and that you suspect that something else is going on." She then produced an empty overnight bag from her jacket pocket, stuffed her loot inside, and added, "I can't fully fill you in, but that over there would more than suffice." She then motioned to a plain envelope now resting neatly on Olga's desk. "As for me, I believe I should be off. This wasn't a wholly official break, anyway." With that, her boyish playfulness returned, and she clicked her heels and lazily saluted. "By your leave, Comrade Major." She let the last two words roll off her tongue, before turning around to leave, locking the door behind her as Lev had done earlier.

"Younger Leningrad witches and their lack of manners," Olga bemusedly quipped. Within a few seconds she was already opening the envelope and reading through most of its contents, making mental notes about what she was seeing.

She did recoil a bit, however, when she saw the name of the author.

"It seems that things are starting to get very interesting," she said, and in her mind she assured herself that maybe, just maybe, full colonels in the KGB were crazy after all.

The interrogator’s expression didn’t change. Raikov suspected that in his line of work, he had heard, and witnessed, far worse things than she had described. However, she was amused to note that the witch behind him looked sick to her stomach, and was fidgeting a bit.

“Is something the matter?” Raikov cooed. “Your neck looks stiff. Perhaps you’d like me to massage it?”

“I’m the one asking the questions here.” The interrogator growled, regaining control of the situation. “And I assume at this point you officially transferred under Colonel Volgin’s command?”

“Yes. Both me and the Colonel traveled to all corners of Afghanistan, clearing out Mujahideen filth wherever we could find them.” Raikov smiled. “We had such a grand time, with our superiors turning a blind eye to our activities, and having no ‘Geneva Conventions’ to fuss about. We both took the news of the pullout very hard.”

“Odd. I was under the impression most Russians were glad to get out of Afghanistan.” The interrogator said.

“Weaklings. All of them. Had we stayed there a few more years we could have wiped that entire country clean!” Raikov sighed. “Compared to back then, this current war has been INCREDIBLY dull.”

“What do you know of your fellow witches, then?” The interrogator asked. “Katya Litvyak?”

“A traitor and a weakling.” Raikov sniffed. “She was one of those witches who applauded the retreat, and then had the gall to go and join the enemy. I have nothing more to say about her, other than I’d very much enjoy having the chance to kill her myself.”

“What about Konstantina Stalinka?”

“You mean Putin’s pet? The poor little puppy that clings to whatever shows her the least bit of affection? A pathetic little creature.” Raikov grunted.

“Sounds to me like you don’t have a very high opinion of your fellow witches.” The interrogator said as he scribbled down some notes.

“They’ve done nothing to deserve it.” Raikov shrugged. “Witches today are nothing like the great heroes of the Great Patriotic War. The Matrons have grown old, fat, and weak, and the current generation have inherited their weakness. It makes me sick just thinking about how far our kind have fallen.”

“Is there ANY witch you like?” The interrogator asked.

“Well...” Raikov frowned. “There was that one witch who defeated me... the one with that crimson hair. She’s piqued my interest.”

“How so?”

“When we fought, I thought I could sense it.” Raikov gave a bloodthirsty grin. “She had the makings of a WARRIOR, just like me. She’s so close, too. She just needs one... little... push! Mmmmm, I’d like to meet her again. I want to cut her. To beat her. To wrap my hands around her throat... I want her to do the same to me...”

“I think we’re done here for today.” The interrogator coughed as he stood up, collecting his notes. He then turned to the guards. “Take her back to her cell.”

The interrogator and the observer witch then left the room, with the witch giving Raikov one final, nervous look before making her escape.

“I’ll find her. One way or another.” Raikov said in a singsong voice as she was led back to her cell. “You can’t keep me in here forever...”

Nope. She's pretty straight across, though, ya know. it might wild occasionally.

Wild as in oh god who set off a bomb in here don't use that towel we cleaned up with it.
>>
>>34269933
Oh....so rough then. I take it she's interested in Frank as well along with the other girls?

Or just finds him in oddity?
>>
>>34269933
towel? Considering what you said it sounds like a mop and bucket is needed.
>>
>>34270051

Funny story involving... that. Not mine, friend of mine, but that exact thing happened. He and his girlfriend had the house to themselves, his brother was out at the gym. came home, took a shower, grabbed a towel.

this went through three towels and another pair of showers before he finally got a clean one.

>>34270007

He's an oddity. She's not interested the same as the other girls- yet- but she's interested enough to stick around.
>>
Where does the art for Bridgitte come from? Seems a familiar but I can't place it.

All this river assault actions makes me happy that me Kota and the guys came up with subwitches during our drunk insomnia fueled ramblings.

Btw what type of cat is Brigitte's familiar? I've seen cats with the puffy tuft of hair in their ears but I have no idea what the breed is called.
>>
>>34270071
Suuure, friend. Sure its not maus or merc?

Aww that's a little disappointing but considering she interested enough to stick around that means it's too late.

Also from her POV, it seems she wouldn't mind going a few rounds with him or am I misreading it as under some sort of shipping glasses?
>>
>>34270071
>this went through three towels and another pair of showers before he finally got a clean one.
we had something similar happen back when I wasn't in college. I was neither the staining party or the stained party, but it was...well, quite something
>>
Hey, Merc and Ghost. Shitload of people probably been giving you loads of praise already, but I want to add my two cents to it too. Went on a four day Strike Witch 89 binge, starting with PJ witches and ending off with this thread. It's been helping me take my mind off my problems. You're doing good work
>>
>>34270123

>>
>>34270091

She's a mithra! haha. Total accident on my part, had I used the picture I'd intended to, she'd be Musashi from that shipgirls game.

mmmm, delicious brown superbattleship.

>>34270123

Well, no, she wouldn't mine. Brigitte is older- older than Frank, even, by a couple years, and isn't nearly as shy about sex. It's not that she doesn't attach any significance to it, but she's able to have flings just for the same of having flings, as opposed to the rest, who still have this kind of romantic notion about it.

>>34270178

You'd be surprised, I think a lot of people just kinda assume we know and don't really say anything. It's not bad or anything, but I don't really hear it that much, honestly.

I really appreciate hearing it though, and I'm glad you like it!
>>
>>34270274

So Brigitte is in her late 20's like 28? So if something were to happen it will be a fling to her, or under the notion that Frank is 'special' in the sense she won't do it to just anyone?

That reminds me that I kind of wanted to ask you how experienced are the girls?

We know slider is pure and so is the stalker but what of Ice and Katya?

If you don't mind me asking?
>>
>>34270318

Well, it'd certainly start off as a fling, though it'd depend on how Frank handled it past that.

In a few words? Not very.

Katya was pretty untouchable- the Litvyaks were a big hero family when Sanya came home, so she didn't have any real suitors. Ice tried some experimentation in school with other witches, but nothing significant or lasting.
>>
>>34270486
>Ice tried some experimentation in school with other witches
Man, even in a community much more accepting of lesbian relationships, I can only imagine these experimentations being absolute fusterclucks of awkwardness
>>
>>34270486
Katya is not surprising but Ice?
That is surprising considering the positin she is now?

I'm assuming the dildo fron feelthy is the result from a said experiments
>>
>>34270509

Yeeeep. That about sums it up. Anyway, anon, I stayed up far too late chatting with you guys and hornet about his latest, and I need to rack out. I'll catch you guys next week or in the IRC if you're motivated to deal with those people, haha! nah. some of them are alright guys.
>>
>>34270486
What does these experiments detail? Broken in from these experiments or she did that herself?

Does Slider or Mav know?
