After skimming through it, he scoffs and hands your orders back.

Your infantry, all wearing fresh issue BDUs and body armor, run over their weapons and other high speed gear one more time before mounting up. The roads are still in surprisingly good shape, despite the heavy traffic they've seen over the past few weeks. That, and the route you're taking is kind of a back road of sorts, it's certainly not the main rollbahn. Too high profile still, you think.

At first, you're not sure if the guy is putting his accent on for you. Then you remember that most, if not all Germans are fiercely proud to be German, so he probably was hamming up a bit. Oh well, honestly, you can't say you wouldn't do the same if they were in your country. You nod your approval and guide Hans over to your company landing, where Ooishi and Siegel are already out of their strikers and pitching their tents.

The divisional camp is quite spartan, at first glance. Trenches have been ripped into the ground, between which Leo 2a4 and 2a3's sit in fighting positions, ready to repel any attack headed towards them. Outside of that, everything seems to be just like on a training op. There's no hard latrine, no DFAC, not a hint of a rec area. The Germans mean business.

After ripping halfway through your first of what would probably be many MREs, the very same NCO approaches you.

You do, however, climb up on your vehicle, fishing down under your seat for your super shorty and sabre, making sure to grab your PASGT and NOT the Achillies' integrated helmet. That'd just look silly.
Making sure your armor is tightened down over your chest, you hop off of the vehicle. “One more second Sargeant, I've gotta go find my XO and let him know what's going on.”

The German nods, crossing his hands behind him. “Ve are not in a rush, Herr Bishop.”

You find Anderson sharpening a tomahawk, sitting just on the ramp of one of the Myrmidons.

For his part, he just looks up and smirks.

The walk to Wittmann's tent is relatively uneventful, though you and Unterfeldwebel Plattz hit it off well. Turns out his family have been in the Panzer Korps since their inception, and he's probably got a better running knowledge of soviet vehicles and how to kill them than anyone else you've ever met. Then again, when you've been fighting them for this long, it'd be a surprise to meet someone who didn't know how to kill enemy armor that well.

All that was shown on the television, and wasn't commented on until later, AFTER the big fight between Wittmann and Jake, was Frank, apparently alone, flying into the middle of a huge Soviet air formation.
There was absolutely no context given in what was shown except "Frank Bishop flies into the middle of enemy air squadrons without support".

We, the players, knew that. But NPC's, who were just seeing it for the first time with no commentary explaining what was happening, would just see a gloryhound trying to go up against incredible odds in order to win a medal, when he should have been retreating.

Neither Jake nor Wittmann knew the reasons for Frank's suicidal charge; to Wittmann, it proved Jake's assertion that the Bishops are not gloryhounds. To Jake, it was Frank preferring to stand and fight, when escape was no longer an option.

As for what happened after, Frank continues to rack up medals and awards, not dispelling Wittmann's assessment.
The problem with exemplary bravery and competence is that it's difficult to separate it from medal-seeking (so long as things work out) because we can't get inside the head of the person to know WHY they did what they did.
