I feel bad for the thought ever crossing my mind.
>>
What do we do with the red dragon body? Is dragon-scale armor a thing in this setting? Or would that be considered defiling the dead? I'm sure the dragon would work well for alchemical ingredients.

I would also like a bit more of a write-up on what all the other characters do in the soon-to-be two years we are skipping. How is Sophia's Paladin training going? Did the church send any teachers for her? Is she talking with her gran again? How is our Hellworm adapting to society? Did he ever find a nice lair? How does he keep from getting bored now that he is not constantly raiding things, or does he teleport to places where he is allowed to fight. I'm sure some friendly fights between party members would be great stress-relief.
>>
Matthias, Isla and Shahulzer it is, writing.

They are both young dragons, its not really that strange.
>>34414323
Those are good points, although they ight be planned for the tmeskip update itself.

Having solved your dragon problem, for now at least, you need to tackle Clithenwald Forest.

This forest used to be on a major trade route but that stopped after people kept disappearing in the forest.

Now anyone who ventures too deep into this forest, doesn’t come out.

You and your companions have approached the edge of the forest.

It is a thick, dense-looking forest with lots of undergrowth. Although its midday, you can’t see very far into the forest, not much light seems to penetrate the thick canopy of branches, and 20ft or so into the forest, everything is dark.

Still, your halo sheds light, and you and your companions brought plenty of torches, as well as other adventuring gear (rope, food etc).

Looking at the forest, Isla gulps “Are, are we really going in there?”

“We have to” you say “anything could be in there, and we need to deal with it.”

“I was afraid you say that” she says, with a resigned tone.

Matthias inhales deeply “I smell, I smell....something, like other weres, but...not, also...I smell, ahhhh” he blushes “Nothing, nothing else”.

“I don’t know what he smells” says Shahulzer “But whatever it is I’m smelling, I don’t like it – it looks cramped in there, I don’t think I’ll be able to change shape in there.” He’s currently in his humanoid form.

“If whatever is in there is too much” you say, “We’ll retreat and consider our options.”
>>
>>34414401
You enter the forest.

It’s just as dark, and spooky as it seems, there’s odd noises, strange animals growling and chirping, and you feel like someone is watching you. As you go deeper into the forest the sunlight gets weaker and weaker, until the only source of light is your halo, and Isla's light spell.

Deeper you go, the branches of trees creak and the wind wandering through the trees sounds like the moaning of damned souls.

Deeper still, the sounds of forest die slowly away, until you can only hear your own footfalls, you own breathing.

You advance into the forest, for what seems like hours, encountering no people, and no animals larger than squirrels.

Suddenly a voice rings out, coming from somewhere, almost like it’s all around you.

“Who are you, trespassers? Smelling of strange and infernal magics, reeking of the plague. Speak up, servants of the cancer, the pestilence and plague?”

The voice is musical, lyrical in quality.

“I’m Sireyi Valyenya” you reply “Paladin of Velya, and I serve no plague. I’m here to investigate disappearances, people who come into this forest, don’t come out.”

“An easy lie” scorns the voice “If paladin you be, then prove it, strike down the servant of the plague that walks at your side.”

You give Shahulzer a look “I’m not killing anyone to prove anything” you say.

“Not that one” says the voice impatiently.

Out from behind a tree steps an incredibly beautiful woman, clad only in a knee-length dress that looks like it’s made of leaves, a garland of flowers encircles her head.

She’s gorgeous, a shapely body, perfect face, she’s men’s (and some women’s) dreams come to life.

You feel a familiar pulse within you as your powers shield you from hostile magics. This woman is lovely, but her appeal is at least partly magical.

“That one” she says “kill that one” and points at Matthias.

Isla, Matthias and Shahulzer have rapt, worshipful looks on their faces, at her command, Isla and Shahulzer both get looks of hatred on their faces and turn towards Matthias, who looks confused.

As Isla and Shahulzer prepare to slaughter a confused Matthias you gather your arcane energies and shape a spell to break whatever enchantment she has them under.

With your spell cast your companions pause.

“What am I doing?” asks Isla “I can’t kill Matthias, he’s my friend.”

“If you will not fight the plague” snarls the woman, her lovely face twisted by hatred “Then you will die with it.”

She makes some arcane gestures and humanoid figures made of mud, twigs and fallen branches rise from the floor, lots of them.

“Kill them!” she says. The humanoid figures shamble towards you, raising wet fists with broken branches sticking out.

Shahulzer unslings his axe, Matthias and Isla stand back to back, ready to fight, Isla holds her staff, Matthis his bare fists, though he’s growing, and his jaw is lengthening.

Your spell wraps around the dryad, preventing her from teleporting, even as Isla’s spell encases her in a cube of magical force.

Matthias and Shahulzer cover you both, Matthias in his wolfman form.

“Stand down!” you cry out “Matthias clearly isn’t what you think he is, call off your mud-men.”

As the mud-men almost reach you she cries out “Stop!”

The mud-men freeze.

“You’re really not one of them, are you” she says “Wow, um, yeah, sorry for attacking you.”

“How about we talk about this” you suggest

“Sure” she says “I’ll like, call off my golems, and you let me out of...whatever this is.”

That seems like a reasonable compromise.

With a truce of sorts reached, you ask her about what’s going on.

Her name is Demihydria, Demi to her friends, and she’s not a dryad, she’s a nymph, thank you very much. She’s sorry that she attacked Matthias, she’s not normally that violent towards such good-looking guys but she was told to guard this part of the forest against the plague you see, and nothing was happening. Then all of a sudden you come along and the forest tells her he’s just like the plague and she was scared and-

You get her back on track.

The Plague are what she calls a nest of werespiders that appeared about 60 years ago, and they’ve been increasing in number rapidly, very rapidly.

They are the ones capturing outsiders to add to their number, or eating them, ick!

They’re trying to take over the whole forest and the fae court that rules this place is trying to stop them, as part of that they’ve raised the forests defences, making it more hostile to outsiders.
>>
>>34415786
“But only to, like, protect them” she assures you “I mean, who’d want to be a werespider? Gross!”

“You’ve got to come see the Forest Court” she insists “I’m sure they’ll tell you all about the Plague, and our plane to wipe them all out and what’s going too, ooops!” she says, clapping her hands over her mouth.

“Ah, anyway, this way to the forest court” she sashays off through the trees and then turns to you “Well? Are you coming?”

>>
>>34415914

If we could make an agreement with the spiders refraining from devouring sapients and encroaching on fae territory, getting some spidersilk could be pretty cool as well though. I wonder if the court would be willing to enter a trade agreement of some sort as well... what about periodic dance parties at a designated glade? Admission free or under full control of the Fae of course, we'd make killing on income from trade traffic and tourism...

We've only gotten less than half of the story, you have no basis off of which to assume that the were-spiders are actually evil.

They could just be a group or perhaps singular renegade who left society because they can't control the change at all, which grew in population over time due to attacking travelers.
They likely attack travelers only in their feral mode, which can't really be held against them.
>>
“Uh sure” you say “I’ll come.”

“I guess” growls Matthias “I better stay like this, just in case.”

Shahulzer claps him on the shoulder “Good idea” he says “The fur hides your face, wouldn’t want to scare anyone.”

Isla just shakes her head, as you all follow Demi deeper into the forest.

“What's the deal with the spiders, by the way? Can they be talked to? Maybe we could all reach some sort of understanding.” You say

“Ugh” she says “Their deal is that they’re disgusting, I mean, they eat their own dead – yuck!”

“We tried talking to them” she says “Our emissaries got eaten, now we just fight them”

“So this plan to wipe them out” you say “what can you tell me about that?”

“Er” she looks flustered “I’m not supposed to talk about that, like, at all, please don’t tell anyone I said that.”

“Who would I tell?” you ask

“Right! By the Forest, you’re great!” she enthuses “Anyway, I need to tell you all about the court...”

As you walk she proves to be quite a font of...useless information. You don’t learn anything more about the werespiders, but you now know all about the latest fashions of the court, and which of the queens handmaidens are conniving, boyfriend-stealing bitches (all of them, apparently)

Eventually you reach the fae court. It is held in a clearing, where sunlight still penetrates.

Attending the court are all the creatures you’d associate with the fae: satyrs, nymphs, dryads, centaurs, all manner of fantastical forest creatures.

There’re a few petitioners ahead of you, but eventually you are led before the King and Queen of the forest.

She is a beautiful elven lady, he is a massively muscled satyr. They are both sat on thrones growing out of a single living tree.
>>
>>34416076

Then we are in agreement.

>>34416141

Yes, we'll be investigating possibility of that before we agree to extermination. But if they are feral, and not capable of being otherwise contained, extermination is a go.
>>
>>34416182
You bow, and make your introductions, making sure that Matthias status as a werewolf, not a werespider is clear.

“The King of Dornmer” you say “Has made me Baroness of these lands, I’m told people who enter this forest disappear without a trace, that’s part of why I’m here. There also used to be a trade route through here, which I’d like to re-open.”

“That” says the Forest King “Is going to be difficult, with the Plague spread throughout the Forest.”

“So I’m told” you say “What can you tell me about this plague?”

They give you a similar, though more detailed version. A young woman was cursed to be a werespider and fled to the forest, they paid her no mind, but after mastering her shapechanging abilities she found a lover in a nearby village, and infected him with her curse, in time they had many children, who began abducting travellers and turning them, perhaps out of a desire for companionship, perhaps out of instinct. The werespiders breed fast and are expanding.

“Too fast for the forest too keep pace” explains the Forest Queen “game is becoming scarce, in a few years they will have eaten every living thing here, and then I expect they will start looking outside the Forest for food. If only we had spotted this problem sooner, and convinced them to control their population growth, if only-”

“You’re not to blame my dear” says the Forest King, patting her arm “We must deal with this problem now, not in the past.”

“Well” says the Forest Queen “Now you know our problems, and now you know why we cannot drop the forests defences to allow trade.”

>Failure

These horrible werespiders, it’s all their fault, vile things, they deserve to be wiped out.

“How do you plan to deal with them, your Majesty?” you ask “And how can I help?”

“I was hoping you’d ask” says the great Forest King with a satisfied smile “We’ve located all of their nests and are ready to pour a poison into all the streams around those areas. Once they drink the poison they’ll be dead within a day. What we don’t know are where all of their egg hatcheries are. We can’t risk one of our own going in there, they’d be slain on the spot.”

“Indeed” says the glorious Forest Queen, a regal expression on her face “We were hoping you could go there and pretend to be friendly to them, hear their side of the story, and find out exactly where all their hatcheries are, without that it could take decades to truly scour the forest of their filth.”

You don’t need to parley with the spiders, how could you ever think of being nice to those vile monsters.

Your companions all wear similar expressions of disgust and outrage.

“Of course great queen” you say “I’ll be back as soon as I have the information you require.”

You leave the Forest Court, disgust and loathing for the horrible werespiders in your heart.

They give you directions to the spiders nest and you walk away from the Forest Court

Once you get some distance from the Forest Court you mind clears enough to realise what just happened. You still see the same expression of anger and disgust on your allies faces so you use your magic to lift the glamour.

“What, what was that?” asks Shahulzer

“Again?” asks Matthias “Is this going to happen every time?”

“I hope not” you say “Isla, what do you recall about the fae and their glamours and enchantments?”

“Not much” she admits “I’ve mostly been studying demon lore. I think it we came back with more iron and steel on us, that might help.”

“I’m wearing full plate” you point out.

“Non-magical iron” she says “enchanted metals don’t protect against fae.”

“I felt...weaker in there” you say “Though I didn’t notice until I left, I don’t think all of my powers would work there.”

“Me too” says Shahulzer

“I’ve heard that in a Fae’s Court, they...warp magic around them” says Isla “So that many spells simply won’t work.”

Let's not take chances with fae for now and go find the spiders instead.

If we're going to fight or negotiate with the fae at any point, we'll need resistance to their abilities.

Go get their side of the story. Because i think that the fae are the actual reason for people going missing, i mean they actually try to use mind control on a Half-Angel paladin in order to get her on their side.

>>
>>34416920

It may be because I don't have any iron on me, but I think they are earnest in what they want us to do and what is happening, they are just not above using mind control on puny mortals to serve as their cat's paws. And that is probably what's happening to the missing people, so I guess in a way you're right.
Nevertheless, if there's a way to resolve the situation peacefully, let's take it.
>>
>>34416859
>Go find the spiders
I don't want the fey to become suspicious. They won't re-do the spell as long as they think we are still under their thrall.
>>
>>34417001

We're probably under surveillance by whatever they have -animals, dryads, pixies, trees, magic - so they probably know we've had this discussion.
>>
>>34417039
Or they're arrogant fey who don't expect anyone to have such a ridiculously huge resistance against controlling magic. After all they did get everyone else and even Sireyi for a while. It's absolutely abnormal for someone to resist them, I'd guess.
>>
You decide to go talk to the spiders, they’re hopefully not as likely to mess with your heads.

You walk through the forest for a long time, you can’t see the sun, but Isla is flagging a bit, so it must be getting late in the day, you stop to ea some of your trail rations, but even rested she looks tired.

Not much further, you decide and then you’ll rest. You come across a curious sight, a young girl asleep in the forest.

She’s sat down, and leant backwards against a tree. You can see her breathing, so she’s not dead. She’s also twitching and her face is screwed up, perhaps she’s having a bad dream.

She has pale skin and long black hair, and she’s not wearing a lot of clothing, a short loin-cloth and chest-wrap are her only concessions to modesty.

This is a forest filled with fae and werespiders, so you decide to act cautiously and cough loudly, whilst keeping your distance.

Her eyes fly wide open and she looks around in a panic, catching sight of you.

“Nononononono!” she yells, and turning, climbs swiftly up the tree into the top branches, fleeing. “Fae! Fae are here!”

“We’re not fae” you call up into the trees “We just want to talk to you.”

It takes a little time, but you eventually convince the girl that you’re not here to hurt her.

She doesn’t completely trust you though, and crawls partway down the trunk of the tree, gripping the bark with her hands and bare feet somehow, she’s upside down, her head tilted back to look at you.

“What are you?” she asks

“I’m Sireyi Valyenya” you say “Paladin of Velya.”

“And what’s all that mean?” she asks

Oh...that’s not familiar at all....

You spend some time explaining what a Paladin is, and who Velya is, and what gods are. When you get to the bit about you being the Baroness of the lands around the forest, she scampers back up the tree.

“You come from outside!” she squeaks “You can’t come from outside, only bad things are there.”

“I do, and I’m not bad” you say “I’m here to help, I need to speak to your leader.I want to make peace between you and the fae.”

“I dunno....” she says, her head peeking down out of the branches “You smell like fae...”

“We just came from their Court” you admit “But they didn’t treat us very well, so we came to see your people instead.”

“They are horrible” she agrees, crawling down the tree-trunk to head height once more, this close you can see that her eyes are a solid black, with no whites.

“But I dunno if I should take you to the Hive” she says “You did say you come from outside...”

“I’m not here to hurt you” you say, a soothing tone in your voice “I just want to talk”

“Well, ok” she says “No harm in that, I suppose...”

“Tell me about yourself” you say “What’s your name?”

“Oh, I’m Two Eyes Blue, Six Eyes Red” she says, blushing a little, “I know, a little silly right? Four of my eyes are blue, but when my mother named me, only two had changed colour, my friends call me Twoblue.”

“And what’re you doing out here?” you ask

“Guard duty” she says “But I’m, I’m not too good at it.”

She’s finally come down out of the tree and is standing next to you on the ground, though in a slight crouch. You’d estimate her age at 15 or so.

She’s been talking to you, and focusing most of her attention on you, but takes another look at your companions.

Catching sight of Matthias she walks over to him and gets very close, putting her hands on his arms “Hey handsome, who’re you?”

“Er, I’m Matthias” he says, blushing “Nice, nice to meet you.”

“Not as nice as it’s going to be” she promises, pressing her body against him.

You decide to intervene before Matthias catches fire.

“What can you tell me about your people?” you ask

“Uh, what do you want to know?” she asks.

“How did you come to be here, in this forest?” you ask.

The version of her people history she gives is a little different from the fae’s. A woman was cursed, and did seek shelter in the forest, but the fae hunted her for sport, captured her and tortured her.

She eventually escaped when they tired of their sport. She did find a lover in a nearby village but he accepted the curse willingly, and when they had children...some of them were hunted and killed by the fae.
>>
>>34417692
Grandmother Weaver (as the first werespider is called) was once a soldier, and she started teaching her children how to protect their home against the fae, how to hunt and kill them. So the fae retaliated, killing more of them, and so the war began.

Outsiders that enter the forest are sometimes taken by the fae – and end up in their armies. Those the Spiders encounter are offered a choice: they can accept the curse and join, or they can go free. Of course, with the Forest being so hostile, ordinary humans don’t live long in the forest, something always gets them. Even the Spiders can be killed by some of the...things that live here.

The Spiders are deliberately overbreeding, numbers are the only advantage they have against they fae. They are stripping the forest of prey, but they fae are using their powers to make animals leave the forest, trying to starve the spiders out.
“But that won’t work” she says “In two weeks we’re going to...um, say, what else did you want to know?”

“The fae?” you ask.

“Oh them” she says “They’re horrible, hunt you, catch you, rip you up, look” She turns around and shows you clawmarks on her pale white back “Fae hound got me, I was sick for weeks. Good thing Grandmother knows her medicines.”

“I’d like to meet her” you say “Maybe I can help.”

“Uhm, yeah, ok” she says, wandering off a bit “this way”.

As you follow she calls back “Hey, Manthighass, wanna come walk with me.”

Matthias hurries over to you “Um, Sireyi, you know Jianxi and I um...”

“Yeah I know” you say. You’ve been putting those two on patrols, duty rosters together, everything you can think of to give them time together, and neither one wants to spit it out.

“Well” he says “The thing about that spider-girl is...”

“She’s a bit young for you?” you ask
>>
>>34417710
“Well yes, that too” he says “But only a shifter would know this: Sireyi she’s in heat, I don’t think she’s going to leave me alone, and short of hurting her, how do I keep her off me?”

>>34417799

Seconding. I don't think the shifter in heat will care about Jianxi's unwillingness to share.

Seems we have a lot of work ahead of us to resolve this problem. I wonder when did the Fae arrive into the forest - were they here before it became impassable, or is that side-effect of the conflict? Because clearly it was open for traffic in the not too distant past. Definitely shorter than lifespan of an elven queen.

There's something fishy about this entire situation.

>>
“Tell her you have a girlfriend” you suggest

“But Jianxi and I” he says “I mean, we’re not, it’s not-”

“She doesn’t know that” you point out.

“Right, right” he says.

He goes forward to talk to Twoblue, you can clearly hear her response of “But she’s not here right now, and I am.”

“Ok, back-up plan” you say to Shahulzer “You and I keep her talking until we get there....”

You follow Twoblue to the werespider Hive. It’s a village-sized settlement in the forest that is part on the ground, part in the trees. There are hundreds of people here, most showing the same pale skin and dark hair as your guide, and many have the full-black eyes she has.

Some are in human form, some you see wandering around as giant spiders, and some hybrids of both human and spider shapes. Minimal clothing appears to be the order of the day here, much the same as back in the werewolf village you visited, though almost none are fully naked.

Webbing holds together many of the constructions in this village, and long ropy lines are strung between trees, the residents happily walking on these, or pulling themselves along underneath them, hand over hand.

Twoblue takes you through the village to a large, three story structure that resembles a massive beehive. It’s easily the biggest building in the settlement.

“Wow you must truly respect your grandmother to build her such a big place” says Isla.

Twoblue gives her a funny look “It’s just large enough” she says, and leads you inside.

The lighting in here is poor, but you look up, and up, and up....

Suspended from the ceiling is a vast mass of webbing, holding a huge spider that fills the entire structure. It also has a (normal-sized) humanoid torso – though that has a mixture of human and spider features as well.
>>
>>34418053
The spider is upside down, with the torso towards the bottom, her head just a few feet higher than yours.

“Grandmother” says Twoblue “Grandmother, wake up.”

“Hmm, what, oh, is it dinner time already?” says the gigantic spider, looking your way and licking her chops.

“No grandmother” says Twoblue, “These are guests, they came from Outside.”

“Ah, Outside is it” says the giant spider, peering at you myopically, “Such a shame...for them.”

“Still” she continues “At least the little ones will eat well tonight, I think they’ll do well roasted.”

Hey Autism Anon, how'd it go with the Halo Rings?
>>
>>34419555
Their functionality was mostly usurped by Blessing of the Most High, but the second powerset I made after seeing that BotMH did most of the things I wanted them to do was folded into Create Celestial Iron as one of the unique things we can make.

>Example: Celestial Iron Wedding Rings.
>By taking a piece of her Halo, Sireyi forges a pair of rings.
>The wearers of these rings can command them to shine with angelic light (takes no action), having the effect of Rank 1 Halo. This costs 2 Divine Energy or Arcane Energy (or hit points) and lasts for 3 rounds.
>Grants Low Regeneration: The recipient heals 1 hit point per 6 hours rather than 1day. Or increases existing Regeneration by 1 rank. If full regeneration is possessed the ring adds +15 hit points to the wearer.
>The ring grants either +2 Willpower or +2 Fellowship (chosen when the ring is forged).
>The ring grants either immunity to non-magical diseases or non-magical poisons (chosen when the ring is forged), if the wearer is already immune then this upgrades their immunity to protect against magical diseases or poisons (as appropriate), if the wearer is already immune to non-magical diseases or poisons (as appropriate) then the ring adds +10 hit points.
>The wearers can communicate telepathically if on the same plane, if one another plane they can tell if the other wearer is alive and wearing their ring, but not much else.
>If the wearer of the ring is in critical danger (as in, will die in moments if no action is taken), it expends itself to heal them to full health or otherwise avert their death (teleportation, possible plane-shifting, massive blast of holy energy, etc).
>This destroys the ring.
>The rings powers can only be used when worn by a couple of people in love with one another, though they do not have to be married.
