“Can't, niji-chan. Kamuy know I tried. I'll probably sleep in a tub.”

“Yes, my beloved.” You kiss her and she returns the kiss softly, turning her head just enough. Yui shifts in her sleep and makes an unhappy noise, but Akari immediately pulls her closer and run her tail along Yui's leg. Yui calms down immediately and sighs deeply in her sleep.

“Bad dreams.” You aren't asking, you know.

“Family dreams. Tail means not family, so it helps.” You smile at your niji-chan and stroke Yui's hair softly, and she smiles in her sleep.

“Sleep, my darling, dream softly, dream deeply, dream sweetly.” Your words make her sigh again and she slips into a deeper sleep, safe in Akari's arms.

Pulling out the new folders your diligent niji-chan has prepared, you start spreading them out over the table and studying their contents. Anonimous has been working on locating Kumatori Kiki unsuccessfully, but the quality and style of their posts has changed drastically. You're fairly certain they're heart just isn't in it anymore, especially after they got questioned by various agents and agencies.

The new information about the doings of the Hojo Bumon are interesting, especially when seen through the filters of Akari's search engines. Your own provide greater insight as you open your Water Eyes. In addition to the marriage between the Hojo Group's daughter and the Clan Kaga heir, the darker side of the group – the Bumon, which is literally “Assistance Group” when written and represents the Yakuza activities of the Hojo Group – has their fingers in a number of interesting pies, mainly foreign military ties that are not the Americans. Not quite a surprise, but the fact that they're East European is. You didn't think anyone would be....

Ah. The tie in – Taisho Ryoga's Special Research Division Number 4 (the man has zero creativity for naming) which was the main part of their study of Kiki-hime. They were using specifically Germanic companies for the research and receiving a different set of research from them. A different kind of spirit-child. Apparently some kind of information exchange based on the potential of countering the loss of power from one area to another.

That could get extraordinarily ugly very quickly.

The flow of money, the way things are set up....there are back door deals going on between Taisho and another German fellow, one Rudolph Volker. The up front research is medical and more or less beneficial. The behind the scenes is only military in a general way, it's more focused on transference of energy and power. Sadly, the information you have here only implicate Taisho in trying to subvert spiritual power-bases slightly; there's no indicator if it would work yet. Hojo himself is still only implicated in that it's his money and business.

You stand up with a sigh and sweep everything into the folders with a few precisely aimed gusts and breezes. No one needs to see that except Akari and Yui. You glare at some water to make it boil, and place a dollop of tea-syrup into it, and let that sit for a few minutes as you made yourself some sushi rolls. It doesn't take long for you to decide that you should probably talk about things with your sister again. Or at least see if she's okay.

Or something.

More tea, more sushi rolls, and a little bit of cake and you read some more of the files, collating more information. Dropping your water eyes as your sister finishes her prayers, you pick up the tray and lightly tap at her door.

“Please enter, Aka-chan.”

You take a deep breath, and open the door with your tail, stepping in silently. She's redecorated some and there is only one futon set out, probably taken care of by Akari-niji-chan.

Your sister has a kotatsu in one section of the room, and there is a small shrine set up elsewhere. The sandalwood incense is strong and sweet, and it's clear she's been praying for some time considering how much ash is in the incense dish. She actually looks tired, but she is smiling gently at you, though she seems disinclined to look into your face just yet.

At the same time their isn't the air of deference that would mean she would want to speak as Water dragonettes do, which is a relief. “I hope that my intrusion is not unpleasant, onee-sama,” you murmur as you set the tea service down. You blink at the door, which is a sliding door, like in a traditional house, and quickly decide you have absolutely no interest in prying into that peculiarity of space-time.

“No, Aka-chan, you are always and forever welcome.” You smile, and keep your sigh of relief to yourself. Apparently, things aren't quite as bad as you were afraid they might be.

“If it is all right, I'd like to speak with you for a little while....I brought snacks....and some cake, if you would like.” She looks at you and smiles, her eyes soft and understanding, if a bit bemused.

“Could you not sleep, Aka-chan?”

You shake your head mildly, and serve her tea, then your own.

It was always the first thing I noticed when I was allowed to visit, or when you were visiting us.” Despite her rejection of Clan Ryo, Oba-san never forbade her from visiting; you doubt it had anything to do with how powerful your onee-sama is, or her political connections. But those aren't important at the moment, except tangentially.

You serve her the cake – you noticed her eyes sparkle when you set the tray down, and doubt she would ever be so extravagant on her own – and mix some soy sauce and wasabi paste, mixing it slowly together. “Onee-sama....I really am sorry about Yumiko-san. I did not expect her to see that so quickly. I was hoping....for a little more time, to show her what was happening that she was not aware of.” You settle down cross legged, rather than kneel, unable to resist the more comfortable position in a conscious echoing of your youth when she visited.

“Truly, Aka-chan, it is not your fault. You gave her every chance, but the Clan is very difficult to escape from. She chose her path. I am glad that you gave her to me to take care of. Despite it all, she is my friend.” Your sister sips her tea slowly, and savors it, a small smile crossing her lips. “Yes, it is exactly the same, Aka-chan. You learned well.”

You let her think and you aren't surprised when she lowers her teacup and asks softly, “You are concerned about something important, something we talked about, but it was not just what we talked about, was it, Aka-chan.” You nod, and sip your tea, struggling a little with the things you need her to know and the things you need to know. “Aka-chan....” you look up at her, your mismatched eyes staring into her soft brown ones. “I promise you that it could not possibly be as bad as you explaining that you liked lilies.” Her smile is genuine and sweet, and you blush a little at the use of your own euphemism.

“Even if I am not the dragonette you seem to think I am, onee-sama?” That seems to bring her up a bit short. “I'm not Ame-no-Horobi-no-Mikado. Not in spirit. Not yet. But....i could be. All I have to do is decide. If we were to make a barrier in this room, I could show you that other than that one tiny thing, I am Horobi in all but spirit and name.” Your sister pales, and she takes a slow, deep breath, not panicking, though it's clear she's jolted by the knowledge.

“I could see that your Chi is immensely strong....I know your Shen must be immensely strong now too, because you defeated both Kushinada and Hidesato. Your Jing has increased as well?” You nod, looking at her calmly, silently. “May I see how much you have grown inside, Aka-chan?”

“I need to know something first, onee-sama....”

She looks at you quizzically, but nods.

She lowers her head, and murmurs softly, “Please forgive me, Ryukusa-chan. I was forbidden, and mother couldn't do more than watch from afar....”

“Nonsense.” She blinks, a tear rolling down her cheek. “There isn't anything to forgive at all. You are my elder sister, and you did what you could to make me happy and safe. I think I turned out okay. And my family, strange as it is, is your family too. You will be oba-chan for my daughter, and she will grow up being watched over by the greatest seer in all Japan.” Finally your sister smiles, and you rise to your knees, reaching up and stroking the fresh-water of her tears away. River dragon, not like you, but still very much yours.

You consider carefully, but by and large you have one question which has bothered you since Er Yin-sensei revealed it to you in Kiku-chan's Barrier. “Onee-sama, why does my father only allow mother to bear daughters? It would be very easy for him to give her sons. It seems strange to me that he should bear so many daughters. It can't be accidental.”

To your surprise, Jinyuu blushes quite deeply, and looks supremely embarrassed. “It seems that he was trying to temper the power of Horobi by giving it to a compassionate and gentle soul. Ryujin, for all his wisdom, still thinks of women as softer, gentler creatures.” Heaven, did he ever fuck that up – there are more female demons, ghosts, and youkai than any other kind. You'd think the old lizard would have realized that. “Also, he hoped that it would soothe Susano-Oh's concerns about a new dynasty, since the Imperial bloodline is Ryujin's. By having only daughters, there would be no new Imperial Lineage, and the Three Great Treasures would remain in the hands of the Imperial Family.”

Kushinada's complaint about Kiki-hime ruling the country were a bit off base, but you suspect that may have been because someone fed her false information about making the corporate way of life the only true ruling body. It IS true that Kiki-hime's children would inherit a lot of power, but unless the Kaga have a child with Imperial blood among them, that wasn't a real threat. Which means you'd better have Akari find out Kaga Ushino's actual bloodline as soon as she's up.

I was under the impression Horobi was a bit of a hot-headed dude when he was away from the Inari, and probably caused trouble. If Horobi didn't cause trouble as a man, then why worry a male successor would be a problem? Hence, the Shamefur dispray pic.

From what I can tell from what we have learnt thus far, Horobi played the part of the devil to ensure that Status-Quo was maintained, to an extent...
Since Horobi was killed and his 'family' slaughtered, Ryujin was wary of Horobi's reincarnation wanting to exact revenge upon those who killed his family, so he forced the reincarnation into a female form due to his belief that women are less aggressive and violent than men, which in his opinion, would lessen the chance of Horobi going on a rampage when he was reincarnated....
Then again, this is naught but speculation, so take it as you will...

The knowledge that Ryujin was deliberately making sure that Oba-san's plans failed makes you feel both manipulated and hopeful. Manipulated, because, well, duh, he was aimign for someone like you. Probably less of a lesbian tomboy though. Too bad, dad! Hopeful, because you still are who you are because of your own choices and desires and will, not anyone else's despite their efforts otherwise. Poor dad. He got just what he wanted, an independent, clever, kind daughter that will totally fuck up anyone messign with her family and will totally do what has to be done if it's the only way it can be done.

Of course, that doesn't mean he'll be entirely happy with how you turned out. And he is a capital Dragon capital God. He could arrange some very bad things to happen to you if he's displeased with you.

Well, Theory is good for a starting foundation, something which Kiki is in need of... however, the others would benefit from combat training... Each type of training concerns itself with the use of powers that are effective in the location specified. - outdoors is literally 'any power that can be used outdoors gets trained', indoors likewise.

Mystic training is centered on internal powers and magic depending on who has which available to them.

They're really quite literal in this instance, and Ryukusa will never put her people in a position to be endangered while training. The broad category gets broken down depending on where the location of the training is.

As useful as Barrier training is, it is also one of the slightly more risky techniques to train without adequate preparation. Not just because it's going to be dangerous, but because any spirit-child can sense a Barrier, and you know of at least two who are already specifically on the lookout for you aside from anyone that Ryoga, Oba-san, or Kaga decides need to be looking out for you. You don't THINK the Kaga are going to be out in force yet, and you're not worried about the humans, or the Christians, but Ryuu Wakaba and Ryuu Hauko are dangerous and apparently have grudges. You wouldn't put it past either of them to collect a batch of Clan Ryo each and have them check Barriers everywhere.

On the other hand, the Gym here in the apartment complex will be perfect for combat training. Perhaps one of the other tenants might join in, if you are lucky. Of course if you are unlucky, one of the landlord's maintenance things will be there. That's a hell of a toss up. Still, the opportunity to put Kiki-hime in a gi again, maybe gym shorts and a cotton shirt....would she even be able to fit in one and still tuck it in? Yes, the Gym is probably good, and combat training is always good for everyone.

Of course, the real fact of the matter is that you will eventually be attacked outdoors. And that's where Kiki-hime and Er Yin will be at their weakest, for entirely different reasons. So outdoors training is a must, at the very least to get some basic team work together. It will let you dress up nicely too, so that's a plus.

You sigh and look out the window.

You're not tired.

Jinyuu-onee-sama is asleep, but Er Yin and Kiku-chan are awake still, talking quietly. Of course it is just now dawn. The sun is just about to touch the upper part of the walls.

So - Hyun Chisato.

Hyun Chisato is 5' 4”, and is fully grown. Lolicon with plausible deniability.

And concerning Kurao Goto....he is a servant of Kuroukami, the Dragon God of Rain, who is answerable to both Ryujin (oceans being the source of rain) AND Susano-Oh (storm god, duh). As a result, It is very unlikely he will bother informing anyone save Kuroukami about your true nature, because his boss isn't going to step into that huge, stinking pile of napalm-shit waiting to explode all over everyone. That said, he is a true oni, which means he's more spirit than flesh, and you'll need to fight him in a barrier because he won't be able to exist outside of one in a manner that you can hurt him effectively in. It also puts him a step above you on the "how hard it is to kill" chart, meaning outside of initiating Barrier Combat, the advantages are all his up to a point....but he isn't invincible or unbeatable even outside of Barrier Combat.

How you decide to deal with him will also probably depend on what Yui can tell you.

The three main things are that Ryukusa is clever, and can often combine her choices (if you do not try to flood her with all of them all the time) and she will never lead you astray in charcter - often her choices may not make sense, because she only vaguely understands some of her choices herself (she is both mildly psychic and exceedingly hyperactive, and some things she simply hasn't been taught by people who should have taught her).

The final thing is the choices aren't just decisions about what to do, but how you interact with whatever you are doing. Ryukusa's choices are meant to get her closer to her family and warn her enemies to stay away. The choices made often influence the people around Ryukusa, more than they influence Ryukusa herself.
