John Smith lies dead, as does his guard. While the inner workings of Union politics still eludes you, Lee fears this news bodes ill for his future, both as a newly commissioned officer of the Union, and as a free man. Back at the DCV the marines are quickly packing their things. You hear the sergeant over radio.
“We have a problem, prepare for evac on the double!”
“Hostile locals?”
“Negative, but that may be the case soon. Get in a holding pattern and be ready to take us up.”
“Roger.”

Lee revs up the buggy once more, swiveling it to return to the camp. As the buggy pulls into sight the marines are half-packed.
“What happened? Where’s Smith.”
Lee looks up at the sergeant as he steps out of the buggy, its chassis sinking to the ground as it slowly deactivates. “He intruded on the hive, and attacked it. I was too late to stop him.”
“Right, let’s go.” The sergeant turns to move back to the shelter, his laid back demeanor gone.

Welcome back to Hive Queen Quest!

We should make a point to inform that because of how....individual members of their species are, that we do not blame the rest of the party for this trespass and will not seek hostile action against them, or even force them to leave.

We regret the death of the "Soldier" but not that of the trespasser.

and prob some of the away team knew of this op and were covering for them
and a comm set in that mech suit
does that solve your question
>>
>>34549826
What?

No.

The FTLComm in the He's Angel is a terminal with a screen and keyboard.

Unity gave us a little FTLComm box to contact them with.

The distress beacon was a non-FTL radio satellite that was supposed to transmit to the probe that would come into the system to investigate, it had to go into orbit because the atmosphere was interference. The Clarke's only FTLComm died with it.

>>34549785
Did you not notice the Union has a command structure and when they say jump, Lee has to say how high? He is not allowed to stay. Period. They don't trust us any more than we trust them, any request for him to stay would have to be approved up the chain.

There are massive limitations to FTL communication in this setting here. For one thing it can really only be used to send brief blocks of text, and the devices all seem to be too large to conceal within a cybernetic body. Even if, and this a big if, Smith was using a FTLcom, I doubt he would have had the time to send a coherent message outlining a significant aspect of our defense capabilities before he was reduced to slag.

You quickly send Theseus the data regarding Smith. You receive a ping in confirmation from the Clarke as it drifts through the void of interstellar space several light years away.

"From this information it appears to be what humans refer to as a 'full mod', or a full body modification. The process leaves the human brain within highly unstable. It's a limitation of the human brain. Their physical prowess is exceptional, but yes, they have been known to act recklessly. Unfortunately, a few things.

- A few stranded humans briefly observed our Pod at the impact site, before fleeing noises in the jungle. The Hive disposed of the pod and it was not present when they returned to investigate again.
- The humans found the flaming wreckage of two of the Unity drones, all 3 destroyed near the hive in battle. They appeared suspicious and asked if we had seen the drones again, we denied this.
- We told the humans we heard their rescue probe from space, and offered to convey their SOS to it. We did, and summoned the Texas. Though their First Contact questioning established us as class 0, their SOS listed us as classification unknown. We overheard conversations that indicated suspicions that the Pod was ours, but they have no further evidence.
- The bounty hunter Lyle never returned from his mission to obtain specimens. You also suspect the Union intelligence office put out the bounty, yes?
- Now they sent this John Smith no-doubt intelligence agent. Who has vanished with a drop trooper from the human 'diplomatic mission'.

>>34550194
"Nothing apparent."
"Well, they clearly believe you to be of some interest. The name, by the way, is a moniker. All such agents typically claim to be named as a Smith of some sort."
"Would it have any transmission capabilities?"
"Impossible to know for sure. It is possible to conceal a quantum communications device within such a body, although it would be capable of only the most rudimentary of communication. Low definition still pictures would be the limit, and it would take a short time to finish transmission. Such a device would be exceptionally expensive, however, and we rarely ever find them. Typically such devices are used only in suicide missions of great importance. Have the humans left yet, or have they been destroyed?"
"No, but they seem to be leaving."
"Excelent." You sense the Clarke accelerate back towards your system, although it remains below light speed for now.

Man, we need to make our equivalent to the creep.

Would make things so much easier, automatically absorbing nutrients from our farms and spreading out all over the network as an easy "Stop and graze" food source, nervous tissue so we can feel when someone is stepping on it who isn't supposed to be, both reinforcing AND structurally supporting our tunnels with it's thick tissue.

There is literally no down sides to making our own creep, we don't even have to put it everywhere we set down and build.
>>
>>34550551

Have you read the quest?

Because yes. The narrative has frequently referred to eyes on the walls of the hive, particularly when describing our prisoners' behavior in their cells, watching them.
>>
>>34550601
Yes, we have that aswell.
>>
>>34550617
>>34550551
Frankly the automated harvesting sounds like a good idea, frees up more workers for other important shit. But I don't really think we can do it now considering that our current nutrient source is algea that needs a planetary electric field. Maybe if we can find a more effiecient source of food,.
>>
>>34550601

Yeah, the flesh has eyes, how the fuck do you think we keep spying on Lyle? Or all the other prisoners?

>>34550632

To be honest, I often forget stuff like that sometimes as well.

Hell, until he brought up the eyes, I had forgotten that we made Doors/Airlocks with the equivalent of advanced sensor suites built in.
>>
>>34550601
Yeah, it's called Infrastructure. It had eyes and ears.

It has lungs to circulate and filter air. Tubes to carry food and water. All that stuff.
>>
>>34550663
I figure the automated harvesting would cost about as much more in upkeep as the workers do.
>>
>>34550689
I really want to give it the ability to disguise it's self as just regular stone with the skin combo.
>>
>>34550704

But, if this quest was considerably more micro-management than it currently is, it would bring about a great increase in efficiency.

Workers wouldn't need to go and eat harvested food, just reach down and rip up a piece of the flesh covering the ground, or pick up a bulb growing from the ceiling for all their nutrients.

But that is only IF this quest was Micromanage: The Managing, which it is not.
>>
>>34550663
>automated harvesting sounds like a good idea
>Maybe if we can find a more effiecient source of food

We need to tap into the Ocean Fungus. Now that we have countermeasures against the spores, nothing's stopping us from harvesting it. It's a, literal, ocean of food.

We might be able to plug the Infrastructure directly into it and just pipe-line the food out. Failing that, breed Honeypots with mosquito-like feeding tubes that can move over the surface of the fungus and collect the jelly.
>>
>>34550748
The Infrastructure already pipes around refined Nutrient slurry.
>>
>>34550728
Having Chameleon Doors would be a good idea. It's been suggested and seconded a few times, but doesn't seem to have been picked up by QD.

WAIT JUST A DAMN MINUTE.

John Smith, before we melted his ass to slag, jumped behind the head of one of our Colossi and did something.

It COULD have just been a failed attempt to blow it's head off with a Lightning Gun, or it COULD have just melted the carapace enough for something to be implanted.

From what I remember of the Lightning guns, it should have done a hell of a lot more to the Colossi than it did, or the Colossi was just lucky, or I'm remembering wrong, Or I'm paranoid as fuck.

>>34550791
We have to wait until the current farms are online to have the upkeep to support *any* of this.

After that we bring worker count up to 2000 to build 200 new farms. Or if you really want more, bring the count up to 6000 workers to build 600 farms, but that means using up most of the income towards getting more income.

As far as fleet building goes, first you build a bunch of cloaked pods to establish our spy network across space here. We need like 5 more of those. And we can explore space outside the Expanse for a place to build and store our fleets until we need them. We shouldn't build them here, under Union scrutiny.

>There is literally no down sides to making our own creep, we don't even have to put it everywhere we set down and build.

Cerebrate Anon, here!

The downsides to the Creep are as follows:

> It consumes resources:

it is essentially a bare, land-based circulatory system. This requires loads of biological resources to maintain, just like any other circulatory system. You are basically structuring your buildings such that they require a massive physical network of unbroken structures to keep them alive. This is a lot of work, and if your structures are not currently set up this way, it's going to require LOADS of effort to adapt them to this system. Once adapted, you MUST ABSOLUTELY require that they are connected to the system, or they will FUCKING DIE.

> It requires Creep Colonies

Unless you develop heart-like buildings, your circulatory-like system will fail. You are going to need to spend the time and effort to develop these buildings and organs, followed by the extreme resource-intensive effort to retrofit every single colony you have to support such a system, not to MENTION the cost in time and resources to BUILD the structures to support this new network.

You might as well ask that the entire world change over to nuclear power on Tuesday. It's just unfeasible. At best, this is asking for new colonies to work under the new principle, and for the old things to be converted slowly over time. This could take generations.

>we don't even have to put it everyhwere we set down and build

If and only if we don't want our buildings to reap the benefits of this system. You don't gain the benefits of a big, central heart if you have fully-functional individual heart. You don't gain the benefits of a big, communal liver unless you are willing to sacrifice some functionality of your individual organ in favor of the communal organ.

In full, if you have interdependence of the community, you must have interdependence.

No most of that should go to building our fleet because that is the most important thing here.

You take account of the damage that has been done. Multiple tunnels have been collapsed, hive walls torn down, and the breach in the hive has let in all manner of local life. You send workers to deal with them, shooing the small animals out and sweeping away the spores as others chew on the stone to seal in the hive once more. The rubble is scattered about the hive and dust fills the air deep into the tunnels.

Your drones watch from the shade of the jungle as the gunship descends. You note it takes considerably longer to fold the DCV back into its mobile form than it takes to deploy.

After the long day you realize that there is still much to do elsewhere. The activity of the primitives of Raligha has been steadily increasing, while the search party continues to comb the jungle. Their search appears to be winding down, although air patrols have been steady for the past few days.

The pods keeping watch in the other human systems detect little change, although you intercepted a mail transmission from Kaltara to the nearby station. Its contents were rather mundane. A mix of personal correspondence and simple search queries.

Meanwhile, your other guests still sit in their cells, although now you have created enough additional holding cells to separate the officers at least, the construction of additional expansions has been all but halted in light of the need for repairs.

Back when we had 119 workers and wanted to build 40 farms, it was explicitly said to be slow.

We really should ask the guy in charge to give us a list of each of our prisoners, their ranks, their names...

>>34551033
Yeah. We need like 5 new cloaked pods.

I'd also like to sacrifice speed of arrival so that we gain more stealth: blink in like a light-day out from the system so that the giant flash the blink drive gives off is undetectable to the naked eye, and hopefully will be dismissed if any sensors notice it.

Bones require painful and relatively permanent growth (if the bone walls are to be at all effective, that is), nevermind the permanent investiture of calcium and other materials.

To make this happen swiftly requires an even greater devotion of resources, as you have to invest in the materials to set the calcium in place AND the materials to construct whatever compounds set them into place.

If you want these boundaries to change over time, you have to be willing to devote time and resources to break down the old boundaries and erect new ones. This is incredibly time- and resource-intensive.

As you watch the humans file into the vehicle your drones start to make their way back to the hive, disappearing into the many hidden tunnels throughout the jungle. As the gunship lifts the DCV into the air your speaker makes its way to your prison to speak with the other motley collection of humans.

As you do so you look over the collection of data on Union culture and history. Human history, at least according to your limited sources, has been filled with strife and blood shed of one kind or another for almost all of recorded history. After a number of globe-spanning wars and a brief yet terrible nuclear conflict the bulk of humanity was swept up into the all-encompassing Earth Confederation. The book is very adamant on emphasising their dogmatic nature and totalitarian rule.
The Confederation spread through the system quickly, engulfing what few private enterprise founded colonies there were through either force or coercion, and turned their resources towards the wounded and bleeding Earth. The first Warp bubble was generated in the year 442 EC, nearly twenty years after the end of World War Four. The result was an unprecedented rate of expansion encouraged by the hope of more lenient regulatory laws on worlds separated by light years. So long as information was restricted to data packets carried by ships, the Confederation thrived, slowly becoming a loose empire that used the strict limitation on information to control the spread of information.
In the year 122 EC the invention of the Quantum Communication device revolutionized society as it was known. The Second Information Revolution sparked not only a rebirth of the thirst for knowledge, but also lead to the collection and spreading of data on a previously unprecedented scale, as well as a number of violent riots and bloody revolts. The tipping point of these events was undoubtedly the Massacre of New London, a bloody riot that left dozens dead.

While it was by no measure the worst such riot, it was one of the first to receive the scrutiny of a fully formed interstellar community, resulting in widespread outrage and public dissent. These displays of dissent turned to outright rebellion in the year 36 EC when the world of Gemini and its binary twin Gemini Minor, announced their intent to secede. Nearly a dozen worlds followed suit, with the admirals and captains of the antiquated space force of the time to split nearly down the middle. Earth continued its efforts, and in the core ward worlds it had much success in cracking down on dissent and rebellion. In the rim ward systems, however, the colonies were quickly rallying behind Gemini, and her picket fleet soon swelled with the gathered forces of what would soon be known as the Union. The fleet, under the command of Fleet Commander Delian Cobalt, carved a bloody path through Confederate space and launched what would become known as the bloodiest conflict in human history.

The infamous Battle of Sol began with the Union fleet engaging at high speed against Confederate picket forces. Little tactical data of the event remains, but in the fray a stray kinetic round is believed to have struck a military facility on the lunar surface. The resulting explosion fractured the moon into several pieces which entered a decaying orbit around the Earth, prompting the complete surrender or retreat of the remaining Confederate fleet. Under the command of Admiral Kal Alana the remaining forces of the Earth Confederation’s interstellar fleet reformed into the Commonwealth of Free states, where it remains an oppressive regime under the rule of the Admiralty Council to this day.

Your speaker makes its way to the common holding cell where the humans have remained in largely the same position. The wounded are still wounded, coddled in the back and wrapped in bandages, while many of the officers remain near the middle where they whisper to each other about inane escape plans and theories of your species as if you can't hear them. None of their ideas have been sane enough to cause you concern yet.

As the door flexes open the humans look to you. Your speaker walks in wearing a vibrant display of color along it carapace, hopefully denoting its importance, and steps just past its flanking warriors to face the officer who claims to be their leader, Major Michael Randolph. You make note of the leader of the expedition team you captured is still in the back, wrapped in bloodied bandages. Human physiology is surprisingly adverse to being impaled through the shoulder. A warrior can have half its limbs blown off and still fight, but you stick a blade through a human's torso and suddenly he can't even stay conscious.

"You are human leader?"
"Yes, my name is Major Mich-"
"Yes. You have said this before. How are your accommodations?"
He clears his throat nervously, clearly unsure of how to proceed. "We are concerned over our crew member, and we are still in need of more thorough medicine for our wounded."

Your speakers move from cell to cell to ask their questions, after several hours of corroborating stories you are able to determine the composition of the remaining crew.

Of the officers are Major Michael Randolph, Captain Gabriel Peters and Randall Sanders, Lieutenant William Davids, Staff Sergeants Ryan Stevens, Hideki Akagi, and George Thurston, Technical Sergeants Norman Udeme, Tyler leonard, and Dave Williams, Senior Spacemen Bruce Udeme, Terry Winslow, Bernard Ikati Reginald lockhart, and Michael Foreman, and Spacemen Ryan Russman, Garry Stamford, and Derrick Demichev.

As for the questions of why the Hope was on the planet, the answers vary somewhat. The most common response is "Survey" or "Scouting" while others respond by explaining some piece of the colonization process. Once a planet is surveyed and cleared for settlement, the crew of the discovering shit receives royalties from a percentage of the colony's taxes, and the Commander, should he choose to accept, receives an honorary commissioner as governor of the planet.

>>34552850
What we want is the Union to fuck off, but I doubt that they'd listen at the moment.
Maybe you'll just have to wait a few more months at least chaps, before we can start formal negotiations.
>>
>>34552850
"When you need to know such things, you will be told."

When = never
>>
>>34552850
>Most of them
Most? Not all?

Are the other engineers dead?
>>
>>34552850
"Irrelevant." Your drone says. "Where are your engineers."
All that's left of them are Udeme, Leonard, and Williams, and they were primarily maintenance. The rest of us would be communication officers, geologists, and of course Doctor Vaughn. Now we have been more than cooperative under the circumstances, I would be more than willing to help you contact the nearest Union office to start proper negotiations. I think that's more than fair."
"You will be informed when such arrangements are to be made." Your speaker backs out of the door as it flexes open and shut, sealing in the human just as he gets up from the floor. "You can't just keep us here forever! There are procedures for these kinds of things!"

With your questions concluded you look over the crew again. The officers are almost exclusively administration, while the three technical sergeants are trained in maintenance of Union technology. The others appear trained in combat, although they all are in some small way knowledgeable in medicine.
>>
>>34552850
>what you want for our release

"While your official policy is the suppression and subjugation of alien races, you can never be released to share what you have learned. Cooperate and provide useful information and we will provide you with comfortable living conditions. Refuse and you will be made far more uncomfortable."
>>
>>34552907
But has the Dauntless left yet? Can we ask satellite-Theseus how it went and if the nukes are still there?
>>
>>34552907
I doubt we'll get anything useful from them in the meantime. Why don't we investigate what's up with the doctor?
>>
>>34552907
honestly think its time to start working on the mind control spores, we can't let them leave after all they've seen, but some "willing" human comrades could go a long way
>>
>>34552907
>There are procedures for these kinds of things

Yeah, problem is, we know what your procedures are. They involve a nuclear armed spy-satellite watching to see if we need to be 'suppressed'. Fucker, unless the situation changes drastically, you never leaving this place.

Can we get an update on the other humans? Have they lifted off yet? Any signals been sent?

Honestly, I'd bet half the HIve that Cybory and/or the Marine in the mech suit had a transponder that broardcast at least some of what they saw. We're probably about to be attacked.

Ready the cloaked ships, have the surface weapons pointed in the right direction and tell the A.I. to ready the nukes in the satellite.
>>
>>34552945
There are no mind control spores. "mind control" is an absurd pipe dream so far down the strictly hypothetical tech tree as to be fictional.

We're going to have to perform exploratory surgery on some humans to understand their biology more intimately before you can even begin to do something more than mood manipulation.

>>34552937
She's still recovering, so we can do even less there.

We just need to put Leonard in a shuttle with a nuke and tell him to explain dat shit.

We're stalled until we have nukes again. Until then, we can just lay Pods and explore the universe.
>>
>>34552980
>We're stalled until we have nukes again
Not really, we don't need nukes to build and arm ships. What's keeping us down is our lack of production and infrastructure
>>
>>34552945
>mind control

For that, we should take a look at Lyle. He's got cybernetic implants and an artificial nervous system.

That means artificial implants plugged into his brain. That would be a good place to start in developing our own brain implants.
>>
>>34553004
Stalled on *making prisoners useful*.

I said right after that we could make more Pods and shit.
>>
>>34553005

OR we could potentially take the concept and use it to alter our Bio-computer that we used to interact with Theseus / Unity Drone.

Surely such implants have access ports to have improved software installed.
>>
>>34552907
The day draws to a close, and what a long day it has been. You watch as the gunship streaks across the sky on its approach to the Dauntless, and eventually the lumbering ship lurches out of orbit and accelerates out of the system. The monitor realigns its orbit, its broadcast signal once more as strong as ever. When the Dauntless disappears in a brilliant flash of radiation you sense a quick ping of radio signals bounce through the clouds to your hive.
"You have no idea what I had to do to stay hidden in that thing. Typical maintenance procedure. They ran some scans and reinstalled their monitor software."
As the Clarke enters the system the two Theseuses join back together. You sense a slight snicker of humor run through the Clarke's computer. "Well, I was able to upload several copies of myself into the Dauntless, so I suppose it wasn't a total debacle."

You sense another ping of thought, this time faint. A small hint of raw emotion that skims the edge of your mind. You follow it and quickly find the source as Elizabeth opens her eyes. She slowly picks herself up from the soft floor, looking around the room. It feels like a light field of static emanating from her, a random collection of thoughts drifting in and out of her mind. Eventually you manage to gather a sense of confusion and curiosity.
>>
>>34553058
What? You're not making any sense. the Space USB port doesn't have room for improvement, what limitation does it have right now?

>>34553005
Forget mind control. It's a far, far, far, far, far off "dream wishlist" item.

>>
>>34553076
>Try talking to her

>>
>>34553076
Try speaking with telepathy, see if she can understand. Failing that, use the Speaker.
"Hello Doctor, it was unwise handling an unknown alien artifact like that. We almost lost you. How are you feeling."

Offer a sense of concern. Mention we provided care for her. She'll be more likely to cooperate with this approach.
>>
>>34553095
>Forget mind control. It's a far, far, far, far, far off "dream wishlist" item.

So you're taking over as QM are you? You decide our options fore tech development?

We have a living example of brain implant technology. It's entirely possible that studying will allow us to develop some form of brain implant ourselves.
>>
>>34553076
telepathically speak "hello Doctor..."
>>
>>34553076
Send a shuttle up to the satellite.

It's time for Mr. Technical Sergeant to meet Mr. Nuke.
>>
>>34553076
You send a simply string of thought to her out of curiosity.
"Who are you?" The thought is like a whisper as it echoes through the hive, and you see her jump. She whips her head around, looking in all directions franticly.
"Yes, hello? I'm Doctor Elizabeth Vaughn, who's there?" She says the words, but as she forms them in her mind you can feel them leaking from the top of her consciousness like an overflowing glass.
"You have been asleep for some time now, how are you?"
She keeps looking in all directions as she tries in vain to find the source of the voice.
"What happened? Where am I? I... can't remember what happened." You can feel her reach back for the memories, and a shock of sensation erupts. You can tell they are not natural memories even with your limited understanding of human psychology. The memories are... yours, or at least they are similar in nature. They come in pieces, crumbled into tiny shreds. Glimpses of massive black ships and vast courts of crystal and glass.
Her head reels back from the sudden rush of memories and she collapses to the ground.
>>
>>34553230
Umm, send workers for help?
Would her presence register as a foreign queen to them?
>>
>>34553230
See how far our telepathic access goes. Can we take a look around in her head? Can we get copies of all her memories?

The real memories and the new implanted ones?
>>
>>34553230
Well shit.
>>
>>34553245

If that's the case.

She dies.
>>
>>34553260
I somehow doubt that.

We get what she transmits. She transmits because she's an undisciplined telepath.

We'll just have to try more next time she wakes up. We have other projects to tend to until then.
>>
>>34553265
Why? Are drones are genetically programmed to ignore the orders of other queens.
>>
>>34553245
>>34553265
Chill, foreign Queens can't control Drones from other Hives.

Even if she did register as a Queen (unlikely) she wouldn't be a threat.

This woman is now an information Gold Mine! We will take good care of her.
>>
>>34553280
>I somehow doubt that.

We don't know that. It would be retarded no to try. We could be passing up a fucking gold mine.

>>34553294

You seem to imply that this ~technologically~ obtained tachyon link ON THE SAME FREQUENCY as us works in the EXACT SAME WAY that our evolved to.

It could adjust itself to our line SPECIFICALLY and OVER RIDE our input.

SHE IS NOT A QUEEN OF OUR RACE, THEREFORE SHE DOES NOT FOLLOW THE SAME RULES AS QUEENS OF OUR RACE.

God Damn.
>>
>>34553320
We have encountered other telepathic races before. Chill. All our Drones are designed and built to serve us. They didn't evolve naturally.

It is staggeringly unlikely that she could just magically take over.
>>
>>34553382

He DOES raise a point though, it's ridiculously advanced, and ancient, machines and not something evolved like ours, we don't know it's capabilities for adapting, it's strength or range, anything about it really other that we can talk and apparently has mind-fucked her.
>>
>>34553230
You reach out with your mind and attempt to make a proper connection to see more of the implanted memories. You send a quick image you had gleemed of a strange, stubby worker crawling through a marsh. The image is echoed back, along with another burst. You may not have any control over her thoughts, but neither does she. As another barrage of alien memories wash over her mind she grasps at her head with her hands, letting out a stifled scream through clenched teeth. The images come more clearly this time. You see a massive royal court, filled with large, slender creatures. Effigies, each one with a link to a distant queen countless light years away. The great chamber itself appears to be made of a gossamer film of flowing glass, swaying in the breeze like silk around crystalline supports. The hall stretches up and down seemingly endlessly, with thousands of effigies arranged according to dynasty and family rank. The image is gone as quickly as it arrived.
Elizabeth "Stop it! What do you want? Who are you?"
>>
>>34553424
"I wanted to wake you up again. You fainted."
>>

>>
>>34553424
We want answers too. We want to help you.
>>
>>34553404
>we don't know it's capabilities

That's a point. We need QD to give us an update on the Shock Troopers we left snooping about the Temple. They might have learned something. Our game-focus has been here with the Humans but their exploration has been ongoing.

Just the carvings on the walls told us a lot. Even if we can't get shit to work yet, just looking at more walls could tell us a story.
>>
>>34553424
Try using the Speaker. We don't want to scramble her.

"You trespassed upon an ancient Temple of our species. It was unwise to tamper with an unknown alien artifact. We almost lost you. It seems to have implanted an archive of some sort into your mind."
>>
>>34553424
Give us back are history
>>
>>34553447
No. They don't know anything about the working of the medi-tanks and I don't think anyone mentioned consulting them on the net gun.
>>
>>34553424
If we aren't using the twins to boost research currently I'd like to have them do so. First with the Regeneration tank and then the net gun.
>>
>>34553511
They know how to fix the machine and how to take it apart just not the science behind it.
>>
>>34553424
"You tampered with an ancient device. It appears to have implanted memories in your mind."
Elizabeth slowly gets back on her feet, one hand pressing against her temple. "What do you mean? How is that even possible?"
The door flexes open as a speaker walks into the cell. The sight sends another shock of memories loose through her mind. "Ahh! I... I remember you now. That was your temple. No... no it was more than that, wasn't it?"

>Ask a question (write in)

"That place was left by the Queen of Queens. It must be truly ancient. Beyond even my own memory. We could not let your kind claim such a place of history."
>>
>>34553648
QU, can we get an update on the Drones left at the Temple?

The talk with the Doctor would probably go better if we were less in the dark about that place.

Even just info on the carvings. The walls of that place seemed to tell a story.

>All the informative and instructive carvings were on the outside, though. They've never seen any inside.

I don't remember much of the inside being described. We only had game-focus in one room. The Drones could have found more.

>Let's not...build that particular lying house of cards
Everything said is evidently true. We saw memories of a great Queen of Queens. Must be old as fuck because that's not in our memories.
>>
>>34553648
"What you found was one of many ruins" Send her the mind pictures of the temple. "Ruins of a people who were once enslaved" Send her pictures of the ship buried in the desert "To those of terrible power" Send a imagine of the one locked in the core of the ship. "We were given the task to help stop what had happened from happening again" Send her pictures of that thing we saw the first time we touched the void crystals.

"Yes." Your speaker says. "It was ancient and of great value."
A twinge of pain passes over her again as another flash of memories passes. Her thoughts are not attuned to your network so it is difficult to make out much of them. This time you see the interior of the temple, only a long time ago. The corridors are filled with drones of some unknown breed. The rooms are filled with eggs and cocoons of countless kinds.
Your speaker continues. "The humans we have seen, they seek to conquer and destroy. What do you seek?"
"You're right. Humanity has been caught in an endless cycle. It always seems that no matter how far we advance, no matter how much we evolve there is always corruption and war, but there has to be something we missed. If these memories can help stop that cycle, then all the better."
"You seek peace?"
"I seek to better myself, and others. That's why I study alien life, to learn from their mistakes and their strengths alike. That's the objective of Xenology."

Your drones move out into the weaving corridors in search of some clue as to its origin. The halls are silent and empty, but with the visions of the distant past you are able to get an appreciation for what was once here. Vast collections of queens-to-be kept in the countless chambers. This was clearly not simply some ancient hive. No one queen could have accomplished such a grand feat alone. You flip through the ancient memories skimmed from Elizabeth's mind and see drones of thousands of kinds crawling over and through the halls. Drones of varying size, shape, and color swarming through the walkways and chambers in a frenzied chaos.
Near the far end of the ruins your drones reach a dead end. A circular room similar to the chamber with the sphere, but in the center is a small podium. On the podium is a small carving, perfectly smooth and preserved, of a star map. The formations are alien to you, and the markings are indecipherable, but its significance is unmistakable. The chamber itself looks out through a bay window to the lake below as a roaring waterfall cascades over the windows. You can just barely make out the smattering of villages around the edge of the water.

At this point I think we all need to be getting some sleep. I'll try to stick around as long as I can for comments, questions, and feedback.
>>
Thanks for the thread QD.

Thanks for the quest QD.

I vote to start off the next thread with breeding some relay pods and sending them off to every named world on that star map. A history of our people greater than anything we imagined could be there waiting for us!

Maybe trade some info to the Unity for star charts if we can't figure it out on our own.

>>34554168
Hey, question.

if we blink into a new star system a light-day away from anything, the blink drive flash will be far more miniscule and likely nonvisible to human eyes at that distance.

It has the tradeoff that it takes a day to approach the system at relativistic speeds.

Much higher chance of non detection and blending in to the stars?

Kharak, the Garden of Kadesh, Well of Lost Souls, the whole nine yards.

>>
>>34555010
I'm not exactly sure if that's the most fitting analogy, but I'm wondering if we're going to do a reversed homeworld journey and go find the blasted ruins of our homeworld in the edge of the galaxy. Looking forward to next week.
>>
>>34554924
Yeah, might be a good idea to make that SOP from now on.

Blink to a spot outside the system and fly in at sub-light.

We've already had a few close calls with the humans, if it keeps happening, they'll notice a pattern and find a way to detect us.
