>Recap
Garland is a Witcher, a monster slayer from the school of the Panther. We are following his adventures through the tales of a bard. His first adventure took him to a town suffering at the hands of slavers and a Siren, he killed both. Now he has returned to his home, and under the orders of his master, taken an apprentice on his next task, which is to end a curse in the city of Starkhaven and retrieve the Sorceress who dwells there.

Welcome again one and all to this fine place. I apologize for being late, I had a meeting with a lovely maiden who simply would not let me leave until our… business had been attended to shall I say? In any case, that is not why you are here, you wish to drink, eat and hear tales correct? Well of course I am happy to oblige, and bring you the tale of Garland once more.

We left off with the Witcher and his apprentice leaving the hamlet of Calun and its darkness behind them. And we shall join with them again some days later, as they finally come to the grand city of Starkhaven.

It was Garland who spotted it first, far on the horizon with his cat-like eyes which see more like a hawk’s than a panther’s. They stood at the crest of a hill, or at least that is how I will tell it for it sounds far grander this way. They stood there gazing down at the city on the horizon, with its famous wall of pale stone which granted its name. Those walls were said to be good as any Witcher at keeping monsters at bay, but it seemed curses were somewhat of a different story.

What is the saying? The grander the pride the grander the fall? It matters not, but that is likely how Garland thought as he looked to the city.

Meanwhile Xander sat behind him, riding his steed and staring wide-eyed at the large sprawl of buildings and walls. He had been raised in Kaer Morabeth most of his life, and while he had been granted leave for training purposes, this was the largest city he had ever seen. He was given only a few moments to marvel before Garland shook his reigns and prodded his chestnut mare onward.

“Come,” was all he had to say to snap the boy out of his reverie and set them both on track once more, on to the cursed city and its white walls which made the city as much a prison as they did a haven, if you ask me in any case.

>Cont’d
>>
It was not long before those far off walls began to dominate the horizon, and the two found themselves not riding through wilderness, but through the outlying farmlands that dotted the fields around the big city. As they trotted casually through, Garland noticed a good many things that a casual observer may not.

First off he noticed that there were a number of abandoned fields, where the grass grew as high as Xander himself, and even some free roaming cattle and chickens dotted the landscape. It seemed that many had left Starkhaven to its curse and fled for the hills. They had indeed passed a caravan or two of people on their way, though he suspected most refugees were fleeing northward or eastward, toward the capital or into the eastern countryside of Volklund. None of this was of particular importance for his task, but he was trained to observe everything.

So when he noticed that one of the more occupied farm holds had a small crowd gathered out the front of it, he couldn’t help but take notice. It seemed that there were a number of individuals in uniform – likely official Starkhaven guardsmen – speaking with the man of the household. While one man spoke with the elderly gentleman, another took a hold of a young lady he first assumed was his daughter, until he noticed her pointed ears were in stark contrast to the man’s rounded ones. When the man and girl both protested, the girl was abruptly slapped across the face, and the man shoved back into his cottage.

It seemed to be a legal matter, but Garland couldn’t help be interested, as any of us are when we pass such a scene. His duty was in the city, and his duty was monsters. Yet if our tale has told us anything, it’s that Garland’s definition of monster was vaguer than some of his victims may have liked.

I once asked Garland “How is it that you always seem to find yourself in trouble like this?” I believe we were cornered by a Manticore at the time, though I feel it can apply to any situation. He looked at me and gave that grim smile of his. “It’s my job to find trouble, and end it.” Perhaps that is what makes Garland more interesting than other Witchers, he was never so black and white about his duty.

I’m sure you can guess from what I have just said that he didn’t sit idly by, or trot on past. No no, he slipped gracefully off his horse, handed the reins to his apprentice and ordered the boy to “Stay, and watch the horses.” There were of course complaints, but they fell on deaf ears. This wasn’t going to be much of a learning experience, or at least Garland didn’t expect it to be much.

He strode from the road up the dirt path that lead to the house, his posture speaking of the authority that Witcherhood held – though even back in those days such authority had faded greatly.

“What’s going on here?” he questioned, pushing his way through the two idle guards so that he could stand before the other two, one who stood blocking the elder gent from escaping his own home, and the other who had slapped the elf.

“Hoo the fuck’re yew?” spat one of the guards he passed, his uncultured country accent thickly obscuring his speech with the petulance that Garland had come to associate with small-time law enforcement. Already he had pegged this man as the type who became a guardsman for the authority, not for the chance to stop crimes and save lives.

“This is official business, you can go fuck yourself,” said the man by the door.

How men like these miss the telltale signs of a Witcher, or somehow forget that such men are dangerous to both man and beast I will never know. I suppose that sort of arrogance is beyond me, though I suppose on occasion even I forgot what Garland was capable of.

Our hero of ivory mane and golden gaze merely turned his cold stare to the man by the door, and spoke in a flat yet commanding tone. “Watch your tongue, I’m here on official business as well. So unless you want your boss hearing about how you pissed off the Witcher who was hired to come end this curse, you’ll keep your foot out of your mouth, and explain what’s going on here.”

There were whispers between the two men behind him, but he ignored them, keeping his eyes on the man by the door, who seemed to be in charge. The man was quiet for some time before responding, as though he were weighing up whether or not he wanted to deal with this scenario.

“There ain’t no curse,” spat the guard holding the girl, who continued to squirm feebly in his grasp. “Just a fuckin’ plague that this bitch decided she wanted to spread.”

This was news to Garland, he had been send to help a sorceress to end a curse, and he doubted Elldrick’s information was wrong, unless of course the Sorceress herself had fed him false information. But again he couldn’t see why that would be the case. He was about to ask further when the young woman struggled free of the guard’s overbearing grasp and slipped behind him, one hand snaking around his neck, the other pulling the man’s dagger from his belt and holding it to his throat. The guardsmen froze, and the elderly farmer looked shocked.

“Don’t spread your lies dh'oine, you’ve done enough to damn my people.” She hissed, digging the blade so close to his throat that a thin trickle of blood seeped from his neck where the skin had been nicked.

Of course in these hot-blooded situations men with tempers like these guards go for their swords. There is not much comraderie to be had amongst the lower ranks, where each man is looking to prove themselves with the number of criminals they can put down. It matters not if your fellow guardsman is in danger, when adrenaline kicks in you may well be a beast.

But Garland was not like this, he raised a hand to the men, waving them back, and took one cautious step forward so that he was in front of the others. “Calm down, you don’t need to take a life here.” He said coolly, even as he observed Xander slipping off his horse and reaching for his bow on the roadside. He hoped the boy wouldn’t do anything stupid, and continued his negotiation. “Tell me what happened here,”

It was then that the elderly man spoke up, why he thought now to be the time is not for a humble recanter of tales like myself to say. But in his old, rasping voice he said “The young lady ain’t no criminal Witcher sir. There be dark happenings in the city, Elves and Dwarves are losing their lives. Now I don’t know much about curses and plagues, but this young lady just wanted to get out.”

“Except we are not allowed to have our freedom,” hissed the girl, tightening her grip around the man’s chest as she did so. “We are expected to stay in our quarter and die. I won’t die there, not to that d'yaebl”

I'm a witcher curses and their ilk are second nature to me you won't die by it if I have anything to say about it nor will anyone else here."
>>
“Why do you call it a curse, while these men call it a plague?” Garland asked in that same calm tone. As he did so he made a brief, questioning gesture. Within this gesture he disguised a simple gesture of waving two fingers, a gesture he and Xander had agreed on for situations where speech was impossible. He hoped the boy had been wise enough to spot it, but couldn’t avert his gaze from the girl lest she spill this man’s blood.

“The guardsman don’t want to do anything, they’d rather let us all die.”

“Who is all of us?”

At this the girl snorted a bitter laugh “You really don’t know anything, do you? The curse you’ve come so far to end? It only affects the non-humans, or maybe just our ward of the city. As long as humans don’t get involved they write it off as plague, spread between us dirty non-humans.”

“And what does d’yaebl mean? I am not versed in the Elder Tongue.”

“Of course you aren’t,” she replied bitterly, “You protect the humans after all. Devil, it means devil. I have not seen him but my family have. He is the one who spreads the curse, he comes in dreams, and those he comes to die.”

“Alright, so it’s a curse then.” Garland said, his tone now harsher than it was before “Does that make it worth dying out here?” at this the girl tightened her grip, and took a step back “If you kill that man you’re a murderer, and you’ll be hung. I am a Witcher, and I have come here to end the curse. If you let me, I can make sure nobody else has to die for this.” Doubt was beginning to blossom on the girl’s face now. It would be easy to take her down if he so chose. “I can’t help you if you don’t let me.” This last statement was aimed at the guards as well as the Elf girl, though I can’t tell you if they were smart enough to mind him.

Her hand had loosened on the blade, and her grip was coming free from the man’s chest. Garland saw this as a good sign that he would be able to convince her to end this. He knew the guards wouldn’t be happy letting her go, but they could cry all they liked for all he cared.

“Alright, so just put the dagger down and we can all-“

That was when it happened, the guard in the girl’s arms suddenly twisted free, pushing an arm up between himself and her dagger wielding hand. She had her guard down because of Garland, and so was sent toppling backwards without much chance for recovery. Even as this happened another guard darted forwards with his sword and buried it into the girl’s abdomen without so much as a second thought. Garland had little more time to swear and reach out a hand before the man had done it, and the girl lay bleeding heavily on the ground.

Somewhere he heard Xander swear, and the old man let out a choked sound of revulsion and fear.

Had the guards been signalling each other with their eyes, or had it all been a spur of the moment ordeal? Garland could do little more than wonder.

Garland dropped to one knee by the dying girl, giving the man whose sword was coated in her blood a dirty look that gave the impression that Garland wasn’t done with him. The man either didn’t notice or chose not to react, and instead began to clean his blade. Meanwhile two of his companions headed back for the road, while the other man began questioning the older gentleman, who had retched his morning meal into the grass by his door.

“Are you happy ban-dh’oine? You have saved the guardsmen,”

“The one I intended to save was you, they were the ones with swords.” Garland said simply, holding a hand to her own, which lay over her wounded belly.

“But your time is out, you’ll be in the clearing soon.” These words he whispered “If you have any last words, I will hear them, and share them if I meet with your family.”

She choked out a horrible sounded laugh, which rocked her now weakening frame terribly. “You will meet them alright, though not as you would hope.” Her words were bitter, like the blood that trickled from the corner of her mouth as she died. “If you truly seek to end the curse,” she stopped to cough more, causing more blood to gush from her wound and mouth. “Then watch for the an’givare the one who smiles like…” as she spoke these last words, her amber eyes that had been locked on Garland’s began to grow glassy and lifeless, and Garland received no more information.

Well kinda until someone fucks with usthen the time for games is over.

Also its to find a separate lead on the details of the curse/plague she said her family had an association with it and the dreams
>>
“Are you proud?” Garland spat as he stood, turning to the guard who had now cleaned his blade and put it away. He noticed that as he stood the man’s hand moved to the hilt again – he hoped it was with fear, the man deserved the fear. “You have killed a girl who you could have easily arrested, perhaps your boss will give you a medal.”

The man snorted a bit of a laugh “If you’re going to coming to end the plague, a little elf blood better not scare you. You’ll be seein’ a lot more.” And with that he left to join his compatriots by the road, leaving Garland to tend to this mess alone.

>>
>>34590729
If we really want to get back at the guard we can follow him home and do it silently. Slay the monster in its den. Let's help bury the girl for now.
>>
Being a simple lover of ladies, even I would have felt the urge to strike out at that – let’s be frank – waste of human flesh, wrapped in a guard’s uniform. But for a man who devoted his life to protecting others – which unfortunately included this man who would likely be able to get away with this murder on the ground of “doing his duty” – I can’t imagine how hard it must have been to stay his hand, and instead beckon Xander over.

“We’re going to bury this girl,” he said, as if this explained what he wanted from his apprentice. When the boy gave him a blank stare, Garland pointed to an apple tree not far from the house. “That will do, get a shovel from the man’s shed, I doubt he’ll mind.” Of course no young Witcher who expects to fight monsters and become famous expects his duties to involve digging ditches, and Xander was understandably disappointed, but nevertheless he went to do as he was bid.

While he did this Garland used the palm of his hand to close the eyes of the Elven girl, whose name he did not know, and then moved to tend to the old man. “Do you have a blanket we can wrap her in?”

“I-I have some tarp ye’ could use.” He said, still wiping his mouth of spittle from his retching. When he saw that Garland would say no more he went to fetch it, and returned not a minute later, holding the rolled cloth in his hands. While they worked the man was silent, and Garland saw that if he were to get any information, he would have to ask the questions.

>>
“Can you answer me some questions?” he asked, as the two men took the girl and hoisted her onto the unrolled tarp, taking care that they did so gently as to not rip her wound open further.

“Aye,” sighed the old man “I suppose you must, just be snappy. It was bad enough having that girl here, now there’s been a killin’ and people round these parts talk.”

“Where did she come from?” this was an obvious question, as Elven young ladies don’t often end up living with random farmers. Some nobles with a taste for their pointy eared kind often had such girls attending their homes, but not peasants like this fellow.

“She missed the carriage,” he said plainly, as if this explained it all. This time Garland gave the blank stare, and the man had to elaborate. “There are carriages that go from here to the nearby cities and villages. Do a bit of tradin’ but also take folks. She missed it and I saw her out on the road lookin’ downtrodden so I let her stay until she could catch the next one.” The Witcher was about to ask more, but the man continued before he could. “Thing is the guards or the noble folk, not sure who started it, have been callin’ that curse a plague as of late, and are arresting or outright killin’ anybody from the slums who tries to get out, say they’re gonna spread it.” He spat in the dirt at that. “What kind of plague does that to a man?”

As they closed the tarp around the girls already cooling body, Garland asked his second question. “Does what? Tell me about the curse.”

“Don’t know much, and it’s hard to tell truth from shit.” Again he spat in the dirt, this time likely because of the bile gurgling in his stomach. “People say that the ones who die come back and won’t let the others leave, or anybody come in. Now I don’t know much, but that don’t sound like a plague to me.”

“Aye,”

>Cont'd
>>
“You done?”

“Not quite, help me carry the body over to my apprentice,” the man sighed, but seemed happy enough to help out. “Do you know of her family?”

“Not a thi-hmmph,” the man paused mid-sentence to grunt as the hoisted the now tarp covered girl up into their arms and began to carry her to her final resting place. “Not a thing, she didn’t alk about them to me ‘t all.”

“Damn, what about,”

“If yer gonna ask whether I know what a agivaree is, what do you think?”

“Hmm,” was all the response Garland provided.

They came to the area where Xander was digging in little time, and they placed the body next to him. He gave them a look, but was grimly silent as he continued to dig. Garland would be sure to hear a mess of complaints later, but the apprentice was wise enough to keep silent now.

Orpu is the sign of the body

Unlike most signs which focus The Power outwardly, this sign focuses it inward, bolstering the body against poison, disease, pain and injury. While bolstered in this way the caster becomes much stronger and more agile as well

Asma is the sign of the spirit

Like Axum this is a defensive sign. However Asma only lasts a few seconds, and is used more in reaction to an incoming attack. In comparison though, its defensive power is far beyond Axum’s, capable of defending against powerful spells, as long as the caster can make the sign in time.

“I’ve asked my questions, and you’ve been kind enough to answer them,” Garland began, holding out a hand to shake with the man in thanks, the old man hesitated before giving his own and accepting the shake. “Might I ask one final question before I let you go?”

“Aye, might as well.” Sighed the codger, scratching his gray stubble-ridden chin. “One more.”

“I need to find Katarina De Lorienne, the sorceress who is here to deal with the curse. Where might I find her?”

The man gave a short bark of a laugh “’course you’re lookin’ for her, Witchers and Witches, all flocking to Starkhaven. I suppose she’s your lovely?” at this Garland said nothing, and the man barked the laugh again. “Well, you’ll need luck getting to her. She’ll be in the Inner Quarter, that’s where the noble folk reside, and that place is locked up tighter than the Queen’s asshole.”

“Not to insult the Queen’s arse, but I think I’ll manage.” Garland said with a dry smile. It was then that both Xander could hold himself no longer, and he fell in his own half-finished grave hole in raucous laughter. The old man too was chuckling, but became grave when he realized where exactly they were, and what deed had not been completed.

“I wish you luck Witcher, but please, stay away from my house unless a troll comes near it, I’ll be lucky to sell my crop after all this bullshit.”

Garland simply nodded, and let the man wander back to his cottage in peace.

Alchemy because I got to come up with recipes for things that would have little to no use in a video game environment.

But Mutagens? That's probably my favourite tree, because... Well I don't know if I should really say.

Damn I need sleep, even though I would enjoy discussing with y'all.

Intensifyguy I need you in my threads to intensify the Witchering, will you be available for the next one?

I figured. The Swordplay and Survival Training trees were effective, but difficult to write as powerful or interesting.

Right then, let's see what we have here in builds:

Dragonslayer Longbow/Hawkeye Gouge Build
>Offensive Pots
>STR mutagens
>Archery
>a bit of Stealth

Mutant Killstreak Build
>STR+AGI Mutagens
>Stealth
>Identify Weakness
>Enhancer Pots
>Speed Signs

Shinobi Killstreak Build
>Sword Signs
>Stealth
>Speed Signs
>Identify Weakness

noooo, I'm not doooone...Good Night

I see what took you so long.

I'm sorry.

All you're making me want to do is make another quest similar to Witcher Quest when I'm done, but in a setting with less rules so that I can make cuhrazy skills and see what you do with them.

Actually, I DO have a suggestion for that.

Legend of Mana+Bastion. I think I have some notes somewhere here.

you know you could take some creative license for such things right?

>Search for Macguffins
>Macguffins raise new islands/unseal locations
>Upgrade trees for weapons
>Cuhrazy upgrades
For example, Bastion has a machine gun that is pretty meh until the final upgrade, where it gets HOMING. FROM BUGS LIVING IN THE BULLETS.

Might as well continue

Vulture
>Harvester
>Mutagen
>Stealth
>Lure/Trapping?

Army in an Army
>Swordplay
>Shadow
>Swordplay
>SWORDPLAY
Given a sizable contingent of allied troops, anyone who would want to take down Garland would need to AOE the whole place just to find him.

>>Search for Macguffins
>>Macguffins raise new islands/unseal locations
>>Upgrade trees for weapons
>>Cuhrazy upgrades
sounds pretty damn interesting and I can see a lot of potential for some well executed creative license

The real reason I'm suggesting it is because I can see Dandy narrating the quest as not!Ruks.

>Kid pick up a feather. This town used to be covered in these whenever molting season came. Maybe the next trinket he finds will bring those birds back.
