You adopt the tone and demeanor you'd typically use when trying to explain magic to a non-Vatis. Calm, professional, and just the slightest bit disinterested. “I would never take advantage of a friend, frankly I find the idea insulting.” She seems cowed, although slightly too out of it to really understand what you're saying. “Now then, strip down so we can begin.” Her fingers fumble with the communication brooch that fastens her outer robes, monk's robes just like yours, but eventually manages to undo the pin and slip out of the garment. The robes are actually rather voluminous, and hers practically cover the bed. They'll serve well as a sheet to prevent any blood seeping into the mattress.

Her underrobes prove a more difficult task, seeing as they're fastened by a series of buttons. You end up helping her for the sake of expediency, though she fidgets the whole while. She really doesn't seem comfortable with you, or indeed anyone, touching her. Once her upper body is barred to the world you're faced with the task of getting her out of her pants. Fortunately, she manages this on her own and haphazardly kicks the garment off of the bed.

Were it not for the scaring, Darzi would be a truly beautiful woman. Her body is well-toned but not overly sculpted, her breast a generous handful and her hips wide. However, much of her flesh is warped and discolored. Her shoulders and breast in particular seem to be covered in warped scar tissue. The rest of her is largely dotted with big, blotchy knots of twisted skin. Rolling her briefly onto her side to get a look at her back, you see it's even worse off than the rest of her. It's practically one lone sheet of scar tissue. The only part of her they seemed to spare was her face, a small mercy. The hell did those bandits do to her? Was all this just because she tossed a key down a mineshaft?

You're careful to keep your face neutral and unemotional while assessing the damage to her body, for fear of further wounding her self-confidence or weakening her self-image. The last thing you want to do is make this any more difficult than it needs to be. Darzi herself has grown as timid as a leaf. You note that she has closed her eyes tightly and her entire body seems tensed, as if she were ready to run at a moment's notice.

You reach into your cloak and withdraw the short, thin blade of your scalpel, using just a touch of fire magic to heat the blade as Fulvia had once directed you. However, before you begin Darzi's voice breaks the growing silence. “How bad is it?” Your eyes are drawn to a particularly hideous knot of twisted flesh on her abdomen. If you were being honest, you'd have to say that she looks absolutely terrible, if only for a short while longer. Somehow you doubt that's the answer she's hoping for.

However, she seems far less tense than she was before. Hopefully what your words have lifted her spirits, if only slightly. When next she speaks it's to simply say. “You may begin whenever you're ready.”

You put blade to flesh, beginning to carve out the thick knots of scar tissue that dot her abdomen before moving on to the more serious damage. The pain killers must be working, because though Darzi flinches and squirms she does not cry out. What would surely be horrible, tortuous pain under any other circumstances seems reduced to mild discomfort at worst. You do your best to stem any bleeding and further alleviate pain using just a touch of water magic, at your level such simple task are almost unconscious.

You move from the scars on her abdomen to the ones on her legs and thighs, making quick work of the scaring there. Then you move on to the more serious task of her breast, shoulders, and back. In order to properly heal her, you're going to need to more or less remove the skin entirely. It's a gruesome, unpleasant task but it must be done for your friend's own good. You're actually learning quite a lot about the inner workings of the body, especially regarding muscle and flesh.

With the butcher's task completed, you assume a meditative pose next to the bed and slip easily into a trance. You begin by simple filling your vys reserves, careful to maintain the spells you're using to stem bleeding and dull pain. Once finished, you begin the lengthy process of healing her.

At first, things seem to be going well. The flesh knits itself together flawlessly and leaves no sign that there was once a scar there. However, it becomes more and more difficult to heal her wounds correctly as time stretches on. With your inner eye focused on Darzi you're able to see her vys fluctuate and warp, compresing itself into a tight ball as you continue to work.

Things start to go wrong. Flesh heals itself together twisted together, or instead of a smooth patch of skin there is only a recessed pit where the scar once was. As you move on to the scars on her back, shoulders, and chest you find yourself simply sealing off the wounds you created rather than regrowing flesh as you're attempting. The scars come back, although arguably better than they were before. Instead of the skin being knotted and stretched it instead appears puffy and unnaturally smooth. It's a different kind of scar tissue, but scar tissue none the less.

Frustrated, you rush through the rest of your task. You're able to quickly seal off the rest of the wounds you've created now that you're not trying to heal her without leaving scar tissue. Once all her wounds are healed, you force yourself to wake from your meditative trance. Standing, you inspect your work. The smaller scars that covered her abdomen and thighs are largely gone, or at the very least drastically reduced in size and severity. However, pits in her skin have developed in a few places, arguably just as unsightly as the scars they're replacing. Her chest, back, and shoulders are only barely any better than they were before, burn scars being traded instead for the pale, swollen tissue one will typically find on cuts and puncture wounds.

No, it wasn't supposed to turn out this way. You were supposed to open your eyes and see a beautiful woman naked and more or less unblemished on the bed before you. It made my job much, much harder than it needed to be.” She seems to physically shrink at the criticism, light though it was. “I'm sorry. It's just that the pain was getting to me, so I tried to numb myself and ended up botching it entirely. I'm really sorry.”

You wave her off, reaching into your cloak and withdrawing the painkiller you bought from the apothecary. You hold the vial to Darzi's lips and let her take a sip. “There's no need to apologize, I'll just need to try again. There are tools at my disposal I think ought to help.” She nods, and you take a moment to remove your Hiacian Armor from your cloak. You've got the inkling of an idea that it ought to help you meditate, judging solely by the fact that it seems to flood you with power and strength.

You whip off your cloak and quickly armor yourself. A thought occurs to you while you're fastening the greaves. Do you really need to armor yourself fully, or can you just wear the helmet? To test this out you try putting on the helmet before donning the rest of your armor and, much to your displeasure, find that it won't even fit properly, let alone function. With a weary sigh your go through the motions of putting on the rest of your armor. Before you once more try putting on the helmet, you pull on your cloak and reach inside to retrieve a small pouch containing the five doses of that herbal mixture you bought from the apothecary. You take a small pinch and place it on your tongue, swallowing it quickly. It taste like rot, mold, and dung all rolled into one unpleasant package, but hopefully it will prove worth it.

You sit the helmet on your head and it clamps itself shut around you, that spike driving into the back of your neck and into your spine. You wince, but it doesn't hurt as much as it did at first. In fact, you're almost coming to enjoy the pain. If only because you're beginning to associate it with the flood of power that immediately surges into your limbs. Your vision sharpens and your hands steady, when you next take up the scalpel and begin carving into Darzi's scars you manage to open her wounds much faster, and much cleaner, than you did on your first attempt.

By the time you're finished, you're starting to feel a little out of it. The barriers between the real and the imagined are breaking down, the world seeming to swirl together. The ebbs and flows of vys within the room and indeed, within yourself and Darzi, slowly fade into view. When you try to sit down and assume a meditative pose, you find yourself collapsing onto your back. It doesn't matter though, you fall into a trance regardless.

Darzi's vys is still compressed, presumably from that botched spell of hers. However, you channel magic throughout her body, attempting to create a soothing, pleasant sensation. You seem to be successful, as her reserve unravels itself and once more diffuses throughout her body. That issue taken care of, you being trying to regenerate her wounds. Compared to previously, this is child's play. The flesh knits itself back together rapidly, only unblemished skin remaining in its wake. You notice that you're not healing her in a regular, predictable pattern though. Rather, tendrils of smooth, ash grey skin seem to snake out from the edges of the wounds and swirl together, forming elaborate designs before eventually sealing themselves together.

You seem to finish in record time, but when you attempt to wake yourself from your meditative trance you find yourself unable. Rather, you're sinking deeper and deeper into your own consciousness. The ebb and flow of vys in your surroundings fades away, visions of your past replacing it. You see visions of yourself at play in the small garden on your family's estate, you and your brother stealing a entire pan of baklava from a baker, your former betrothed, Vasuda El-Amin, laying in the rocky pebbles that blanked her father's gardens clutching her injured shoulder. Finally, blackness embraces you like an old friend, the world fading away.

When you next awake, it's to find yourself laying on an uncomfortable mattress, your armor still on. You seem to be alone. Presumably somebody carried you back to your room after you passed out. You've got a pounding headache, your entire body feels dreadfully sore, and your stomach seems to be twisting itself into knots, but you don't feel overly terrible... oddly, the spike in the back of your neck is beginning to itch dreadfully. How long have you been unconscious?

Soma confirmed that its the utility armour, and that we should try out other ones, so lets see what the magick or the other armour can do as well.

You climb off of the mattress, stumbling slightly as you get to your feet. You steady yourself against the wall and take a few deep breaths, just trying to alleviate some of the vertigo you're feeling. Once it's mostly abated you reach up to your helmet and carefully unseal it, the front hinging open with relative ease once you've unclasped the bindings on either side. Oddly enough when the spike in your neck doesn't retract like usual, and when you try to pull off the helmet it resist. You give it a firmer tug, and the spike comes free.

Spots fill your vision and your head swims. The world spins rapidly and you find yourself laying on the ground, face pressed against the rough stone. You try to move your limbs, but you lack the strength. You try to call for help, but the only noise you can produce is a dry rasping sound. Black encroaches at the edges of your vision, slowly shrinking the world into a pinprick of light, and then enveloping you entirely. You're not sure how long you remain like that, slumped over and unconscious, but it seems an eternity.

You come to lying in a pool of your own blood-flecked vomit, your head feels like it's being struck by a hammer with each and every laborious thud of your heart in your chest. Your breathe is a rapid, uncomfortable wheeze and your throat feels like its on fire. You're not sure if you just want to lay there in your own filth or haul yourself up and find something to fill your achingly empty stomach. It's with some small amount of irritation that you realize the Hiacian Armor was the only thing keeping you going, and even it was only barely managing the task.

You fade in and out of consciousness several times as you lay on the floor, but eventually you force your arms beneath you and roll yourself onto your back. Each movement sets your limbs on fire, every fiber of your being screaming out in pain. You push on regardless, hauling yourself up by the edge of your bed and forcing yourself to sit up on the edge. You fumble with the broach fastening your cloak around your shoulders, eventually managing to unhook it and allowing the garment to fall to your mattress. You go through the motions of removing the rest of your armor, letting it fall to the floor When you're finally down to just your underrobes you pull your cloak on once more, not bothering to try putting on your monk robes.

Do you feel this terrible because of the armor, the herbal mixture, or a combination of the two? A question to contemplate later, you think. Right now your greatest concern is whether or not you can walk. You pusher yourself to your feet, and the world is filled with spots once more. When next you're aware of yourself you're once more laying face down on the floor, you think your nose might be bleeding, but you're not really fully aware of yourself at the moment. You almost feel like a stranger in your own body.

His speech is impassioned, full of anger and just a bit of fear. “Who did this to you!? Were you poisoned? Was it Mortia? Give the word and her life will end!” Wow, that's kind of... touching? In a strange way, at least. You're not sure how you feel about him leaping to the conclusion that this was Mortia's doing, but Profectus is a pretty good friend.

“Water.” You finally manage to croak, and he nods. He shoves his hand into your cloak without a second thought and withdraws a cup filled to the brim with crisp, cold water. You're slightly surprised that Ricky didn't crush his hand or drag him into the cloak, but you're slightly too out of it to truly realize the significance. He holds the cup to your lips and lets you drink. You end up choking down the contents of the cup in three gulps, the burning in your throat doused only slightly. When he withdraws the cup you speak once more, your voice coming out gravely and rough. You don't sound like yourself at all. “Put me into a chair, get Darzi. Did this to myself. Bring back food. Cooked.”

He doesn't even hesitate, just rushes to follow orders. For once, he actually sort of seems like a soldier. Disciplined and efficient. It's strange. He drags you as gently as he can manage into the chair in front of his desk and then, after assuring himself you won't fall off, runs out of the room. You must have blacked out, because the next thing you know you're being gently shaken awake. You wave Profectus off, and he lets go. Two heaping plates have been set before you. Fresh baked bread, lamb chops seasoned with various herbs, fresh dates, and a overflowing mug of thick, dark beer. Paradoxically, the sight of the feast before you turns your stomach. You force yourself to pluck up a piece of bread and begin nibbling away regardless.

Darzi is standing in the doorway. She looks like she feels guilty, her hands clasped behind her back and her eyes cast towards the floor. Why is she always so down on herself? She needs to cheer up. “Scars gone?” She looks up when you address her, coughing into her closed fist and nodding. “Yes, my skin's smoother than it was before I was captured. Are you feeling okay, Mik? You look... you look terrible. I think your nose is broken.” You carefully reach a hand towards your nose, poking and prodding. It's definitely crooked.
