You take a slow deep breath, and hold it, stretching your fingers out as you hold your arms straight down along your hips. Allowing the emotions slide through you, you close your eyes to let those world-cracking, erupting, typhoon intensity combinations of rage and fear and outright belligerence wash through your mind, into your body. Catching them in a tiny bead you isolate them from yourself, and feel the tension easing from your muscles and your expression calming. It's not just those, it's a little more complex than that. And you're not entirely sure they're all yours....but that's not what you were told by Er Yin. No, better to let them be for now.

Lifting one foot and raising both hands, zombie-like....and then lightly back flip twice, throwing yourself headfirst into the pool. You let the water hold you, keep you close, and let the breath go, which causes you to sink quickly to the middle of the water, your natural buoyancy catching you before you sink to the cement flooring. The stink of bromine isn't unpleasant compared to the relief of filling your body with life sustaining water, letting it percolate through your lungs.

The embrace is that of the womb, of life, or ever changing and immutable persistence, patience and permeating. You smile and walk over to your family. “I just needed a moment to gather my wits. I really don't go swimming as often as I should. And there was like, this really big pool of water right behind me and all....” Akari shakes her head, smiling faintly, but doesn't say anything. Kiku-chan is steaming slightly as she boils away the dampness of her clothing and hair, while her sister seems to simply absorb it.

“Baka-dragon,” growls Kiku-chan as she crosses her arms in a huff and glowers at you less than menacingly. Er yin-sensei smiles and runs her talons through the crimson locks, and Kiku's eyelids flutter.

A mild shrug is all the reply you have for that. “What were we discussing?” Kiku and Akari glance sidelong at each other, but you interrupt any possibility of their bringing up what made you need the cooling off. “Oh yes. Yui-niji-chan gets a wish. Did you know what you wanted, Yui-chan?”

Yui nods calmly. “It's a secret though.” She walks over to you and you lean over, as she whispers into you ear very softly.

“I would like to marry Ryuu Akari, with a tuxedo and her in a dress, and a ceremony, and everything, aniki.”

You blink a few times and stand up straight, looking down at Yui speculatively. Her glowing eyes, soft blue light streaming from them, are wide and excited and she is looking up at you hopefully. Her earnest expression and hopeful eyes are pretty intense, and you did promise. Still, there are a few issues.

But then again, you have a priestess who was already willing to discuss such a thing. So it wouldn't be impossible to work ~something~ out. “Do you have a ring to give her, when you ask her for her hand, Yui-chan? That's kind of a traditional part of it.” She looks crestfallen and you run your hand through her gleaming hair. “Don't be ridiculous, of course I'll help. I just thought you should do this properly. But you'll have to wait a while in any case.”

Those exotic cat-pupiled eyes of hers grow huge and they well up, glowing tears spilling and the fading as they depart from her joyful gaze. “I can wait, aniki!” she promises.

“And you'll have to work hard for me to earn the money to buy a ring.” She nods twice, vehemently, a silly grin plastered over her face. “Well, I happen to know that there is a peculiar little miko who might have a ceremony just for that sort of thing, even though it's not strictly allowed in Japan. I'll make sure she's available for the ceremony.” you catch Yui before she falls to her knees and kowtows before you. “Here, none of that, you silly cloudhumper!” Gathering her up into your arms you hug her tightly, giggling. “I get to give the bride away though!”

“Well, if it's Yui-chan, so it can't be helped,” you inform her softly, the haunting words of Er Yin echoing in your mind. Setting her down, you ruffle her hair which she absently tries to come into some semblance of order and immediately fails. “Let's go, niji-chan.”

Walking back to the group you smile and spread your hands. “Well, it's a heaven of a wish, but I think I can work it out nicely with a little help.”

Kiki-hime pipes up softly, “What was your wish, Yui-chan?”

You hold up your hand before Yui can do more than open her mouth. “It's a secret. No discussing or asking about the wish, or spankings. Except Akari, who will instead be dipped in batter and deep fried because I like having unbroken fingers. Speaking of which, are we eating in, or out, or packing a basket?” Despite the laughter, that suggestion causes everyone to become serous.

Yui shakes her head. “I've never eaten at an actual restaurant before, aniki.” Akari glances at her speculatively, and then shakes her head ever so minutely to you. She wants that to be special perhaps.

“I am enjoying our home cooked meals Ryukusa-sama. They are fairly exotic to me, given that the foods have changed quite a bit over the past century.” Er Yin-sensei smiles and strokes Kiku-chan's hair. “And you each make things in such different manners that it is exotic to me every time.” Kiki-hime blushes a little at that, And Akari smiles at her.

Kiku-chan mumbles something about feeling nice, so you're pretty sure at this moment, with those smooth metal talons in her hair, she could pretty much eat raw fish heads and be perfectly content.

“I would prefer to make lunch at home, if only because I hate the idea of someone interrupting us while we're eating. To that end, I want to see if Er Yin can do something to help make sure we get the attention of someone specific, so we know who to expect when we go out to practice.” Er Yin stops stroking Kiku's hair and looks in your direction. “I want to see if we can get Wakaba to find us more easily than anyone else. She seems to be dangerously obsessed and we have enough problems. If we can get her off our case, Hauko will follow suit, and then we have three less problems.”

“Three, aniki?” Yui asks.

Akari answers her. “Hauko, Wakaba, and Oba-san through them.”

With that you return home, locking up the gym after you. With Akari and Yui at the forefront, and yourself at the back, you can have Er Yin and Kiku in front of you, or Kiki-hime in front of you.

You gently take Kiki-hime by the hand as Yui and Akari go up the steps first, your signal to Akari to be the advance guard caught only by Kiku-chan. Kiki-hime smiles and walks with you as Kiku stays close to Er Yin, but on the outside where she can keep an eye out for trouble as well. It occurs to you that you may want to make arrangements with her for Er Yin's defense so that she isn't torn between Kiki-hime's protection and Er Yin's safety.

Leaving that for another time, you keep pace with Kiki-hime up the steps, you on the outside as well, your tail sliding back and forth through the air behind you, feeling for threats. “You seemed to do very well in the fight against Yui-niji-chan. She did get awfully grabby, though....”

Kiki-hime blushes a little. “I wasn't expecting that. She was very gentle though, almost like someone told her to do that to me, or something.” She squeezes your hand and you can't help but laugh. “It wasn't what I expected. The way my sister and Er Yin were teaching me, it seemed to just....fit in my head. Like, after they explained it and showed me what to do, it just....fit inside my head and I didn't need to think about it any more. It was very strange.”

You've seen the phenomena before – it's a Void trick, teaching incredibly basic things but planting the seeds for more complex and intricate techniques with those basic teachings in the subconscious. It only works on Water dragonnes and dragonettes if they allow it, but on Kiki-hime it would work incredibly well given her weakness to Void.

“Do you think you'll be ready for a real fight? You'll be protected, but in a real battle Murphy's Law becomes the rule, not the exception.” A slight smile crosses your lips; it may be true, but that doesn't mean you won't move heavens and hells to prevent it from happening.

The question seems to make her think carefully, which is a good thing. If she'd said yes right away, you'd be much more worried. “I probably wouldn't want to fight another dragon-child, no....but I think I could probably beat humans pretty easily now., even if they have guns. Onee-chan said that as long as I protect my center, I don't have to worry about my arms and legs so much in a fight because I heal so fast.” The latter was more about the baby, than about protecting her organs. Killing Wood dragonettes is a time consuming venture at best,a and impossible at worst.

“That's actually a good thing. Being able to fight humans is where I want you for now – everything else, we'll take care of, Kiki-hime.” Akari opens up the apartment and very quickly takes over organizing lunch duties, you being excepted since you'd made breakfast. Though it's just as likely she knows you need some alone time after your.....outburst. “I need to meditate for a little while, Kiki-hime.”

She turns to face you and takes your other hand in hers and pulls you close, delivering a slow, lingering kiss that tastes of cherry blossoms and love. “You have my permission, oh great invincible Ryukusa!” You giggle and slips away feeling slightly giddy.

Er Yin walks over, her tail sliding along the edges of table legs and couches, allowing her to navigate as long as nothing gets moved. “May I join you, Ryukusa-sama?”

It's a no brainer really – Er Yin, for all her skills, probably hasn't have much time to learn the ins and outs of the kitchen yet, and no one likes being a fifth wheel. “Don't be silly, of course you can.” You wonder if she needs to talk, and then you deliberately ask her, inside your head, if she has something she needs to discuss with you.

Though there is no answer, she shakes her head. “Thank you, Ryukusa-sama.” This prompts an odd look from Yui-chan, who over heard as she was setting the table, since the action and the words had no correlation at all. Pulling a tatami mat from the small closet near the back porch, you lay it out and close the blinds, while holding them aside for Er Yin.

She settles on one side of the mat as you close the door behind you, the soundproofing entirely isolating you both from those inside. “So you didn't have something specific to discuss?” you ask, curious as to whether she actually heard your thought or not.

It is little more than E.S.P. but it is enough to alert me to the needs and desires of our family.” She sits seiza and curls her tail around her legs, nearly three times. “I can attempt what you suggested, outside this place, if you have the full name of the person you wish me to call. It will not work on those associated with Fire, however. They are protected from such. It might work on a Water dragonette who is weaker than I, but a strong one – or yourself – would be able to ignore it.”

That means it won't work on Ryuu Hauko at all – he's a Fire oni-child. It will definitely work on Ryuu Wakaba, if you want her to try it.

You smile. “That may take a short while. I have to step on a few people to make that possible. Though, we CAN take you to the Aokigahara Forest. That's Fuji's back door, though it would take dealing with Hinata-hakase. I think I could manage that at least.”

Er Yin sits up and smiles brightly. “That will not be necessary. I have waited a long time, a little longer will not matter.”

Rie takes no notice, stalking back and forth slowly before the both of you, walking the length of the porch, turning on her heel, then walking back.

“It sounds like you're in trouble, is what it sounds like. Lots and lots of it.” Her slow pacing is only vaguely tracked by Er Yin's deadly tail. You're not sure if it's deliberate or not. “I suppose I could help.”

The urge to touch the tail is strong. Mostly because of the twitching, and because she's just daring you to. “I'm pretty sure you haven't heard the whole story, Rie-sama, so I kind of have to wonder what it is that you'd be helping us to do, honestly.”

She doesn't stop her pacing, but does keep her eyes on you, which is pretty disconcerting. It's almost as bad as Yui's double-jointed looks when she's sitting facing away from you, except Rie's head seems to be completely disconnected from her body as she moves. Not entirely, since when she's furthest away she does have to look away to turn around. “Well....if there's a buncha humans that you want protected from stuff like those dummies, I could make it easier.”

Those dummies, you recall, being the Clan Ryo gangs looking for you currently. If she's referring to the same dummies, which is by no means guaranteed, just very likely. You reach for her tail as she stalks past you, and you manage to lightly brush the soft – REALLY soft fur with a fingertip before the tail is twitched entirely out of your way. Rie doesn't give any other sign she noticed or cares that you touched her tail though.

You can't tell if that's good or bad, kamidamnit.

“It can't be as simple as wanting more takoyaki, or even just octopus. I realize your a cat, but you're also nekomata, and not a kitten either. So....what do you want, Rie-sama? What can you want that I can actually give you?”

This cat is making you kind of jumpy, but that's pretty typical of nekomata. Despite that, you keep eye contact even as you lean your head to the side and shout quite loud for your information expert. Then you grunt as Rie simply collapses into your lap....well, onto your lap, as she's still human-shaped, and she's freakin' heavy. Her tails waves slowly she pushes herself around so her back is next to your belly and her hands are curled to her chest while her legs are kind of curled next to you. Er Yin flicks her tail slightly, and Rie ignores that completely.

Akari opens the sliding glass door, and blinks at the sight on the deck.

“What's an Ulthar?” you ask succinctly.

She looks confused. “Nikne Kamuy said it was a dream-place where cats went to.”

Rie raises a hand and gives Akari a thumbs up, then settles her arm against her chest again.

“'Kay, thanks.”

“Lunch in ten minutes, says Kiki-hime.”

“M'kay.”

She slips back in and closes the door, making sure the blinds are closed. You take a deep breath. “No.”

Rie looks up at you as you cross your arms and look down at her. “Huh?”

You gently stroke her hair, which is just as soft as Kiki-hime's, and shrug. “I'm really sorry, Rie-sama.” You'd rather pet her belly, but cats tend to be kind of touchy about that sort of thing. “If it's not dream stuff....then I can TRY to help you, but I have promises, and there are people who will kill to make sure I don't keep them.” It's probably the most basic explanation you can manage without revealing secrets. “So...you can tell me what you want, and I'll try to help as best I can.”

Rie's eyes close a little as you pet her hair, and she starts to purr, very softly. The purring stops when she speaks, but resumes right after. “Okay.”

And you don't entirely blame her – such a place would have to be a heaven or a hell, or some place of pure spirit. There's no way you could manage that, not without the help of a True Dragon or a Great Kami, or maybe a Devil.

To answer the question:

was indeed about whether or not Ryukusa knew what Ulthar was.

Ryukusa can't do anything about dreams or dreamlands - that's strictly Void power, and she realized that the only reason the cat would ask about a dream place was because she wanted to go there or get something from there or otherwise interact with it through a proxy. Ryukusa simply can't, hence the refusal outright.

Er Yin is far more impressed by Ryukusa's honesty than any self doubt she might have.

Incidentally, if Ryukusa had known about Ulthar, she would have had more understanding of her limitations on dealing with it (and probably would have been able to definitely turn Rie towards the Landlord as opposed to suggesting). It was a determination of Ryukusa's hobby info by the players for GM use in furthering plot.
