There was nothing wrong with the characters. The problem is thus. In VMQ1 there were only really ever two candidates for waifu, and the decision occurred organically. Then VMQ2 gave us a whole collection of waifus to choose from, waifuwars ensued, Merc got sick of them and took drastic measures. The source of butthurt was telling people that "you didn't spend enough time with Lucina to get her" because they were busy playing the MC as a nice guy who's worried about his teammates.

You decide to take the safe option, opting not to step on that particular minefield.

"I'll sit next to Holly." You say. Both Charlotte and Lucina shrug and take their seats on the row in front of you. You play a quick game of rock paper scissors to decide who gets the window seat, which you win quite handily.

"No fair! Two out of three!" Holly pouts.

"Sorry, but we can't keep blocking the aisle." You laugh, pointing at the next wave of boarding passengers. You brush past Holly and sit down in your rightfully won seat.

"Meanie."

"Don't be such a sore loser."

After a few more minutes, all the passengers are boarded, all those boring safety demonstrations are demonstrated, and the plane finally begins moving, getting ready to take off. You see how anxious Holly is and remember that this is actually her first time flying.

"Scared?" You ask.

"O-o-o-of course not!" Holly stammers.

"Don't worry, flying is the safest way to travel." You reassure her. "Assuming Wing Gundam doesn't suddenly fall out of the sky and beam saber the plane in half."

"That's not helping." Holly whines.

Finally, the plane accelerates as the plane prepares to take off. Holly squeaks and closes her eyes, but after a few seconds the shaking stops as the plane finally lifts off from the ground and into the air.

"Hey... this is actually kinda cool." Holly says as she looks out the window, with a rather nice view of the city and ocean below.

"See? Nothing to be scared of." You grin.

Now all that's left is to figure out what to do in the ten hours it will take to reach Japan.

I imagine we'll have the other two balls slightly higher up and over from the current ones. Sort of a v-4 backpack.
When we call them back with the magnets, we essentially become an immobile 360 gun platform which could be handy if we ever have to do any single vs multi things.

Well, I've been imagining the Balls as being around half the size they should be. And mounted on racks behind the shoulders, not directly on them. Together with all the parts hanging off of them it gives them a more elongated shape. So I'm thinking the Jester will look something like pic related in terms of general silhouette.

The top side can house the offense oriented Balls so it can still shoot over the shoulder and also behind the Jesta, while the lower part can house the D-Ball plus one other support or defensive oriented Ball.

When the plane finally lands, things become kind of a blur. You vaguely remember disembarking from the plane, where you're picked up by a chartered taxi and taken straight to the special dorms set aside for the tournament fighters. You see quite a few other fighters arriving, but you're too damn fatigued to really try and meet or figure out who they are. You and Holly are lead to your room, where you just collapse into bed and pass out.

You suppose you should concentrate on making yourself look presentable. After all, you need to make a good first impression on everybody. You banish Holly to the the girls' room so you don't have to worry about her pestering you and you get to work, taking a quick shower, meticulously combing your hair, and finally putting on the suit. You have to admit, looking in the mirror, you look pretty snazzy.

You suppose it's time to check on the girls, too. You head out to their room, which is conveniently located next to yours, and you knock on the door.

"You girls ready yet?"

"Almost!" You hear Charlotte say.

So, you spend the next few minutes waiting awkwardly in the hall. Every so often, some random fighters would pass by, similarly dressed. You'd just give them a brief, acknowledging nod. Finally, the door opens, and the three girls come out, and you're just left speechless.

Holly is probably them most conservatively dressed. A simple frilly black dress and white stockings. It's the sort of thing kids would wear at school events, like recitals. Simple enough.

Lucina was dressed in a blue gown with long, black pantyhose going down her legs. It was rather alluring.

Charlotte, of course, was wearing a red dress and top, opting to go bare legged.

"So, how do we look?" She asks.

Charlotte just rolls her eyes while Lucina smiles a bit.

"We should be going." Lucina says, leading the way.

The party hall is not that far, located on the same property the dorms and main stadium are. The four of you file in and see at least a hundred people present, fighters, dignitaries, and other assorted VIPs. It was all pretty overwhelming.

Already, Charlotte and Lucina start to attract attention, and you don't even really have to guess why. Holly sticks close to you while you look around.

You see Ricardo Fellini trying to woo Charlotte and Lucina. Charlotte looks like she's having none of it, while Lucina seems more oblivious to the flirting.

You see Ral chumming it with an elderly man at the refreshment table.

And then there's Mao, who is trying to strike up a conversation with that girl who won the German qualifiers, and not having a very successful time at it.

Then again, there's a lot of other fresh faces here. Maybe you can just mingle casually.

So, I kinda made a thing. I took a picture of the Delta Gundam, greyscaled it up, made it slightly transparent, and then I drew some modifications over the MS itself.

Mainly the head, but still.

"I see... that's a rare variant." Laura nods. "Well then, Mr. Foulke, I look forward to seeing you in the finals if you make it there."

Laura then snaps off a professional salute and marches off, presumably to go "talk" to other fighters. You turn to check in on Holly, and see that she seems to be in a very heated staring contest with Mao. You're... not sure what they're doing but you're pretty sure you're better off not disturbing them.
