Forests at night should teem with life. Only the ears of humans, deaf to anything but their own clamour, could fail to discern the beating of wings and the rustle of movement in the vegetation. But this far North, things are different. The snow swallows sound. It is a good night to hunt.

You rise from the shelter you dug against the whistling wind. Snow falls from your form. Lesser prey scurries away. You reek of the hunt. No matter. You are the lord of the wild, and you spurn such meagre offerings. Your hunger demands more.

You raise your head to the skies, and see…
> the full moon, burning like a silver brand, lighting your way to blood and slaughter
> a half moon, coyly shrouded by scudding clouds, that sends racing shadows across your path
> darkness. the moon hides its face from your prey, an accomplice and ally in your hunt

I guess we're going to exalt as a Lunar, and it's going to determine our caste?
>>
>>35239602
A Lunar Exalt's caste is determined by the phase of the moon.
>>
The half-moon dapples your path with shade, like a carpet spread out before you. You step in and out of shadow, equally at ease in the open as a powerful predator, and in cover as a cunning stalker.

Your long stride carries you effortlessly through the woods. What undergrowth remains tough and dense enough to resist even the long winter brushes against you, familiar as a lover. Game flees at your approach. You forbear to give chase, for now, just glorifying in the night.

Then something catches your attention: shouts, the clash of steel, the sharp scent of blood. Your hackles rise, and slaver drips from your jaws. Trembling with anticipation, you howl your blood-joy into the night, and bound forward.

Up ahead, a melee is in progress. Two-legs. You can see five of them, but smell more.

This obviously demands our powerset, and possibly our disposition/personality. I admit I'm no master of the Exalted system, but I do believe it has something to do with superhumans backed by gods, and powers which depends on celestial phenomena.

One of them already lies face-down in the snow. His is the blood you scent, a rich, heady aroma that bears with it an odd spice. The snow around him is melted and refrozen into jags of ice, as if he was hurled there with both great force and heat. The remnants of a white robe trimmed with fur smoulder around him.

The others spread out warily, surrounding their prey: a woman, slight of build, and attired for travel in the snow. Beneath her cloak she wears a battered steel breastplate, bearing both old dents and new, jagged rents, scars that gleam in the half-light. She wields a spear, her stance poised but her hands trembling with fatigue.

Her assailants: anonymous beneath fur-trimmed robes, steel in their hands. Your eyes skip over their forms: their armaments demand your full attention. You see serrated metal discs wielded in gloved hands; a massive rod of brass, weighted at intervals with studded rings; a pair of wrought claws that extend past the knuckles, gleaming with fresh blood. The marks they made stand out in red against the woman’s pale cheek.

Just to add on to this, if I hadn't gone with the tactical option or the spear-wielder was more injured, I would have gone for the clawed one. We're the big guy here, no hunting on our grounds, or imitating our greatness so pathetically.
I realize our species isn't even determined yet, but I assume most predators have some type of claws.
>>
>>35239692
Sneaky sneak attack. That's the entire point of lunars.
>>
>manoeuvre for a sneak attack
>go for the hidden one

You skirt the main conflict. The combatants are far too preoccupied with their life or death struggle to notice you: the hulking figure wielding the tetsubo rushes forward, his footfalls heavy enough to split stone as he swings; his allies screen his approach with a barrage of thrown discs that curve in towards the beleaguered woman at odd angles, each one heralded by a scream of split air.

As you stalk the one who has remained hidden, you see her meet the downward arc of the tetsubo with an angled thrust of her spear that deflects the blow, but the impact alone sends her skidding backwards as her boots leave deep tracks in the snow. The knockback must be a blessing for her: most of the arcing chakrams miss, circling back to alight on the wrist of their master. She jerks her head at the last moment to avoid one, that instead of decapitating her merely nicks her beneath the eye. That moment of distraction is enough for her other attacker to slip around to her side and plunge the wicked points of his weapon into her just above the hip, where her breastplate ends.

[1/2]
>>
>>35239823

You slip through the undergrowth without sound or sight giving away your position. In a thicket overlooking the fray, you identify the last combatant: a slight figure in a curious cloak of what appear to be woven leaves, currently drawing a bow taller than she -- her scent gives away her gender -- is.

Her focus is entirely on the fight. The arrow she has nocked does not waver as she levels it at the injured spear-wielder. Some part of your sleeping mind nudges you: the shaft ought to be tipped with something. Stone, steel, whatever.

Instead, it is whittled of wood, a rough point. Your nose identifies the threat: the wood seems to be oozing some kind of clear sap.

You...

For metagame purposes:

I do have a dice system and a character creation system in mind. They are not currently in play because you're essentially playing a demo version, a sort of tutorial cum character creation in play.

The decisions that you make in this thread will help to shape our MC, which will allow me to make the necessary adjustments to our MC, and roll out the crunch next thread.
>>
>>35239919

>>35239895
>> ... come up behind the archer and sink venomous fangs into her exposed neck.
>>35239895
>> ... crush her in your mighty grasp, with constricting coils or long, strong arms.
Can these two be done at the same time? Not necessarily a vote, since the answer might change my opinion. Poison seems fittingly ironic, but I don't know if snakes are viable or if we'll be turning human after this or what.
>>
>>35239895
Venomous fangs.
>>
>>35239895
>> ... rush her with fang and claw, ripping and tearing at her flesh.
Honestly, I'm only picking this because it fits my previous image of us.
I'm >>35239947 btw
>>
>>35239947
Probably, but constrictor snakes don't tend to be venomous. I'm just trying to isolate our primary weapon.

Don't worry. We'll get plenty more.

Plenty.

>> ... run her through with a goring charge.
>>
>>35239926
Also, I intend to allow at least one opportunity a little later on to 'respec'. Once we've organically got a story going, there'll be in-character opportunities to re-evaluate some of the decisions we've made and go about changing them.

Defining who you are, while understanding that this definition is always going to be fluid, is both a big part of being a Lunar, and what I'm going for with this quest.
>>
>>35239974

With a burst of speed, you coil your way into the branches overhead. Your muscular length surges from tree to tree without a sound, leaving only bark silently abraded raw by scales harder than steel.

Poised above the archer, you fall upon her like a bolt from heaven. Her first intimation that she is under attack is being hit by three hundred pounds of falling serpent.

The bow falls from her fingers as your coils tighten around her, forcing her arms down by her side. Her shriek is muffled as you wrap yourself around her neck and jaw and forehead, and with a twitch of your body bare her neck.

You savour the moment for an instant, and then plunge your fangs into her.

There is a moment of resistance, as her skin ripples and assumes the toughness of bark!

I would like not to play a woman though. I feel that'd make triple digit orgies slutfests less likely. Even if it will be played to get a harem, my ideal scenario would be a focus on non-sex stuff and maybe only casual encounters while we focus on fighting and other shit.

Bark-tough skin means nothing to you, whose fangs can mar imperishable adamant. You punch through and deliver your deadly venom directly into her bloodstream.

She convulses in your coils, her heels drumming against the snow. For an odd instant, the air around you blister with a green infusion that stings your skin and eyes, a searing miasma that assaults your soft tissues...

... but it fades even as the life does in your victim. She stiffens, the searing agony of your bite causing every muscle in her body to lock taut. Her lungs do not draw breath, her heart does not beat.

At your leisure, you tighten your coils, and feel first her neck, and then her spine snap.

In the clearing, the fight has gone badly for the lady with the spear. The claw-wielder who impaled her now limps back from her, bleeding from a ripped-open thigh, but her advance towards him is halted by another storm of razor-edged death thrown by skilled hands.

In the melee she seems to have been able to trip the massive warrior wielding the brass club, but he's rising to his feet, shaking his head as if to clear it. He moves with an odd rigidity: you notice, now that the hood of his cloak has fallen back, that his skin bears a pattern of stone scales.

His torn robe shows where the woman's spear-thrust found its mark but failed to penetrate.

Do you...

With a flick of your tail, you bait your trap, tossing the archer's bow out of the thicket into the snow. You slither away, still dragging your captive in your coils.

As a thoughtful gesture, you pick up the arrow and jam it into the corpse's throat, just under the jaw. You intend to tear her head off before you swallow her whole, anyway. There's mighty fine eatin' to be had off the marrow in the long bones, which you like to regurgitate and crack open in your jaws to gnaw for later, but swallowing skulls -- and then hacking them back up -- is always troublesome.

You leave her beneath a tree, and slither up into the branches, watching and waiting with slitted eyes.

As expected, the stone-skinned warrior barks a curse as he sees his companion's weapon get tossed out of concealment. He spares a backward glance to the fight, but it seems the whirling chakrams of one of the robed warriors is keeping their quarry busy: the spear-wielder has snapped her weapon into two shorter halves, the better to parry with, as she desperately strives to keep steel from her flesh.

Blood runs down her side. Its scent is distracting, intoxicating; even with so much blood-scent in the air, hers stands out, cries out for your attention. You find your appetite surging.

The hulking warrior shoulders his way through the thicket. He sees the crumpled form of his erstwhile companion and swears in a dialect you do not recognise. It is not any of the popular dialects of the Realm, or the East, or the North.

So he's come far, to die in this wintry waste. You will oblige him. You strive to please.

He drops his club as he reaches down to shake the fallen woman's shoulder, and then leaps back as his hands encounter her stiffened flesh.

"What the fu--"

You surge out of hiding, jaw unhinging to let your fangs flick open, your glands unleashing a torrent of acrid spittle and venom. Still, even unarmed this man is a seasoned veteran, apparently unlike his fallen companion: his hands snap up into a guard position, and he intercepts your rush by seizing you about the neck.

He's keeping your fangs away from his face by an act of supernatural strength. Yellow light blazes around him as he flexes and tries to choke you, and you can feel the stone plates covering his skin harden as the glow of his power intensifies. His feet almost seem to sink into the earth, drawing strength from it as he throttles you.

You have no idea what 'helping' someone is, or why you would want to do so. You're eliminating prey in what seems to be the most efficient manner. The woman with the broken spear is the most attention-grabbing of the assembled prey, but she's also the centre of attention, and so you've decided to eliminate the others first, while they wear her down. An eminently practical strategy.

These human-hunters seem to have some tricks up their sleeve. Thankfully, so do you.

You inhale, and then spew a torrent of vile greenish fluid at the man trying to wrestle you. For a split-second, he remains unaffected, his stony skin fighting off the corrosive effect of your spittle...

... and then, some of it drips from stony brows, directly into his unprotected eyes.

His scream is piercing and unnaturally high as your spit burns out his sight. Even as he mourns his vision, his grip on you tightens, a vindictive death-squeeze.

Bony plates swell beneath your skin, forcing his fingers back, so you can inflate your lungs again. Once more, you unleash a gout of your spite and hate into his face, this time blasting him directly in his open, screaming mouth.

His cry dies in a choking gurgle, but his grip does not relent, although it weakens.

Tired of this play, you abandon the facade of sportsmanship. Your scaly underbelly splits open, disgorging a pair of leanly-muscled, humanoid arms, armoured in chitin and tipped with triple-jointed fingers. Your carapace flutes backward from your wrists in a jagged arc, forming a downward-pointing blade that follows the length of your forearm.

Your prey cannot see you in your unveiled glory, as a swirling disc of shadow and silver light brands your brow. Pity.

With swift downward blows, you snip his arms off. His grip loosens immediately. Fancy that.

He can't scream: his lungs are seared useless by your spit. He can't wipe the venom from his eyes: you've disarmed him. He falls to his knees and shoves his face into the snow, desperately trying to cool his burned-out eyes, even as his life gouts from the ragged rents in his torso.

You reach down and lift his chin with gentle, triple-jointed fingers. You bend to him. His fear fills your nostrils. Your tongue flicks out into the night air, savouring how the cool enhances the flavour of terror and bloodshed.

An old habit emerges, and the structures of your throat shift and swell to accommodate new organs. "Ssshhhhhhhh..." you tell him.

All he manages is a whimper, before your jaws come down. Holding his head firmly in your distended jaws, you twirl your body in a graceful double-arc. His neck snaps almost immediately, but you finish your pirouette, twisting it clean off his shoulders.

He's a big one. That should keep you fed.

The melee draws your attention once more. It seems the tide has turned. The man who once wielded claw-like weapons is now pinned to the ground, impaled through both wrists by a spear-point and the jagged end of a spear-shaft.

The woman who felled him hurls herself to the side, evading another rush of thrown steel. She utters a curse that withers the nearest trees, and, sinking fingers into her own pale skin, pulls jagged javelins of bone from her own flesh.

"Try to fuck around with me and you'll get boned, you little cousinfucking Dragon cunt!"

She hurls her javelins. One goes wide. The other...

The other burns with shadowy Essence. It zips through the hollow circle of a returning chakram, as the last warrior standing desperately tries to retrieve his weapon in time to parry, only for the woman's thrown javelin to take him directly under the chin. The impact throws him from his feet amidst a blast of unbound wind.

I'll take that advice. I'm trying to rush posts out as quickly as I can, but I guess it might be better to have a slower post-rate but a more coherent flow.

I also apologise for all the multi-part posts. This is an artifact of the railroady nature of first threads. I'll do better.

The Lunar Exalted all have one primary animal form (their 'spirit-shape'), but they can steal the shapes of any animal they can fell in a Sacred Hunt.

Some of them can manifest traits from multiple animals at the same time, turning into horrible amalgamations of lethal bestial traits.

If people start complaining, shitstorms around votes start to appear, or you get more players, I also suggest considering posting something like
>Cut-off here, counting votes and writing.
or just
>Writing now.
once you've decided which suggestion to use. This probably isn't exactly relevant at this point yet, but still, I think it's best to get it out of the way.

Since it's obvious we have returned to a somewhat human mindset at this point, what do we know about her kind and this whole situation?
>>
>>35241238
> what do we know about her kind
She is apparently not completely human, and probably neither were the group of hunters you and she have despatched.

You've encountered the not-human but human-seeming before. They make for interesting prey. Some were delicious but always left you feeling hollow, hungry, or even hungrier than you began. Some, like the ones you've just killed, like to travel in groups.

You've smelled others before. Humans that smelt of the wild and of the deep places, but they bore on them a tang of some bright metal that kept you at bay and warned you off. You knew better than to approach them. They tended to travel alone, and in various guises.

You are fairly sure you've never encountered anyone like her before. She stinks of the grave, of newly-turned earth and of old bones.

At the same time, she seems familiar. Intimately so. More familiar than your own scaled skin. You *remember* her, or at least some part of her. You remember her *taste*, remember swallowing and sucking dry her brightness and her beauty and turning it all to ash and fuel in your gut.

> this whole situation
This is the Wood. You are the Predator. They are the Prey. This is all you've ever known.

We're not sure if we want to mess with something that makes us want to keep away, or eat something that smells of death like she does.

She's the only one left, and gravely wounded. You have nothing to fear. You leave the shadows, and stand before her in your full glory.

Even free of cover, shadow and silver light form a halo around you, swirling silver smoke providing suggestions of the chase and the hunt, of jaws and claws and rending fangs. Your anima fills the night, and something in her seems to answer: her pale brow begins to mottle, bruise, and then bleed, and the shadows you cast grow longer, colder.

Every inch of you is covered with steel-hard scales. From your hooded head, your neck, and shoulders descends a mane of feathered spines, a fantastic plumage of colour. Your newly-revealed arms descend from broad shoulders.

The shifting colours of your anima pulse hypnotically in the space between you. She stands, her eyes wide, rapt. You notice that they're a deep blue, that burn in a face that fair. She approaches you slowly, as one would a wild animal, even though she limbs and favours her left side, where the clawed one raked her.

She whispers something as she approaches, too low for you to hear. She says it again, as she draws closer.

"... so beautiful..."

>>35241356
>>35241196
The light of your anima fills her eyes with mesmerising patterns. Your coils bunch, as you prepare to conclude the evening's hunt.

... but as you surge forward, her outstretched hand arrests your progress. Instead of lashing out at her with jaw hingeing open, you find yourself nuzzling the blunt tip of your nose into her open palm.

She strokes your nose and chin. "You beautiful beastie."

And then something wound your very soul jerks taut, a leash of burning, braided gold and silver, that she winds around your fingers even as she gently strokes you.

"You wonderful, beautiful monster. Do you know how long I've been looking for you? Been dreaming of you?"

Scales fall from your eyes at her touch. You see with new eyes. You stand before her in new flesh. Soft, though muscled, compared to your previous armoured bulk. Naked, though impervious to the cold. The mark of the changing moon burns brilliantly on your brow as something in you answers to her need.

You are shocked to find that you are taller than her, so large does she loom in your mind's eye. She comes up to no higher than your chest, so you bend down, reluctant to make her break contact with her soft hands.

She's still crooning at you. Beneath her hands, the weight of years of savagery falls away. You stand in new flesh and look with new eyes, and you don't recognise anything but her. You feel like you've always known her. In a way you have.

It is unclear which one of you speaks, but your voices echo one another in the empty forest.

"I am yours, and you are mine."

Okay, folks, let's end things here. I have the info I need to do character creation, and I'll see you with a proper character sheet next thread.

the leash isn't a physical thing, although you can feel it momentarily as a physical presence. Then it's gone.

I haven't set one up yet. If I do, I'll throw it in QTG.
>>
Are we cured, or is it an ongoing process? Not familar with the charm she used.
>>
I hope we can still do beastly REKTing like we just handled that rock-skin guy.
>>
>>35241767
Proximity to someone with whom your soul resonates has brought you mental clarity and a sense of identity. You are a conscious, 'human' individual once again. You're also wearing your human form again.

You don't remember when you last did. You don't even remember you had this shape.

Chimerism, however, is something that affects the Exaltation that empowers you. It'll take more than some alone-time with your soulmate to remove that. If you should choose to do so.

>>35241794
Beastly REKTing is inherent to Lunar nature. Don't worry. You're not losing that mojo any time soon.

This quest seems pretty cool, OP, I like your writing.

Solar Bond quest? Oh OP, you don't know how happy this makes me. We get all the neat bond shit without making two people at the table uncomfortable, aw yeah

And it seems she's an Abyssal, rock on
>>
>>35242278
Thank you!

And yeah, I like the Solar/Lunar Bond power dynamic, but it gets uncomfortable for people sometimes, especially when the bond is intimate or involves abuse.

I don't think /tg/ has a problem with that.

I also didn't intend to give the impression of Vore Quest; we're probably going to see some kink, but Vore isn't one of my fetishes.

My vision of Lunars has been quite strongly informed by the Terrifying Argent Witches homebrew, in case anyone cares. I think Lunars can equal Solars in raw power in areas of specialisation but lack their mates' ability to be the best at everything, especially as pertains to crafting and managing organisations.

To give an analogy, to become the ruler of Paragon, our mate would have to gather power and influence, topple the Perfect (by force or political clout) and then be able to build comparable or better infrastructure.

We'd eat his heart.
