"You know Princess." you begin, startling everyone sitting at the bonfire. "I haven't seen you do much Princessing either, so how about I start being a hero when you start being a princess."

Everyone else jumps a little, before turning to stare at you. You don't pay it much mind as you're feeling more grumpy and thirsty than anything else.

"In the meantime, I'll take a drink. That looks like the good stuff." You say, flashing a smile at the large, bearded man who dominates the other side of the bonfire.
He looks at you in shock for a minute, before erupting into a hearty belly laugh.

"You didn't tell me that he had a sense of humor, Tuile! He's more like your father than you give him credit for." He reaches behind him and grabs an empty bowl, filling it with whatever he's storing in a stout barrel behind him.

"H-Hey Jack." Yuuki says, with a guilty look on her face. "You really didn't have to come all the way here."
"Oy! Hey Jack!" Tuile says, as she takes another swig of whatever is in her cup. "Come here to visit?"

"Princess, Ye know how long you've been gone for?"
"I'unno, a few hours or so."

"Try a few days, Lass. Also Yuuki, what was the bloody holdup? You could have been back at the castle twice over by now."
"Uuh! Well.. Jack.. You see, I came over and it was kind of scary and I got lost. Then this man here found me traveling in circles. He's the Princess' uncle! And he's really nice when you get to know him."

"Oh! That, well. Uncle was in town for the first time in like ten years, so I went to see him! We started talking and I helped him carry some things and before I knew it, I had walked with him all the way here! So I thought that I should stay since I hadn't seen him in so long."

The hulking man turns around, with a cup in his hand. "Can you believe it? I hadn't seen her since she was small enough to carry in one hand. I'd visit every day if I could!"
"Without telling anyone, of course." You stare disapprovingly at her.
"Aw come on Jack, they just ruin my fun anyway." She takes another gulp of her drink.

You accept the cup from him and try some of it. The drink itself is almost sweet, but you can feel the tiniest hints of alcohol roll across your tongue. Overall, it's far too weak for your tastes,, but you're fine with free alcohol.
"Argh, this stuff is pretty good, what's it called?"
"Sah-ke, I think? They were practically giving it away in town so I got as much as I could carry."
Good man.

"Aye think you've heard a lot about me from the charming lass here, but allow me to introduce myself. I'm Jack Albator."

"Hoho it's good to meet you, Jack. You can call me Andou. At least that's the name everyone calls me."

"You wouldn't also be called, 'King of the Underworld', would ye?"
"Sometimes, but I prefer Andou."

Yeah, that's what you thought.

You whistle into the air, signaling your other companions. They walk up behind you as they discuss something behind your back, but you've already put more than enough thought into that kind of thing for the day.

"Oh, Hey guys!" The princess says, completely unchanged by the sudden appearance of Atsuko and Felice. "You guys came to say hello, too?"

"Aw, come on. I've gone away before like this.."

That's when Atsuko interrupts, "Yes! And every time the castle goes on alert like you've been kidnapped because that's a very serious concern for them!"
Felice joins in, "Not to mention how much Yuuki's princess has been worrying."

That gets Yuuki's attention, "Anna is worried? I've only been gone a few hours. "
"That's a few hours too long for her. She thinks you've been eaten by the graveyard or something, I don't know."

This gives her serious pause for thought, as she goes to stand up.
"Okay! I think we should get going, then!"

Wow, that was easy.

That's when the muscled man speaks up,
"Hey now, I haven't got to see her in years, can't we all just spend a little more time around the fire?"

Apologies again for the huge gaps in post times. This is partially because Thursdays are days where I have to come straight home and quest instead of doing any kind of preparation for setting aside a huge chunk of time so I can quest.

"Listen, Andou, Was it? I'm glad you got to have a big happy family reunion, but the Princess has been here two days. Don't ye think it's time for her to return to her kingdom?"

"Sure, sure, but that doesn't mean you all have to leave right away. Why not sit down, and share a few stories."
Atsuko speaks up, "That's what Yuuki did, and we had to come get her too."

He chuckles, "Ah, those tightwads at the castle, they think I'm some kind of monster. All I am is a glorified gravekeeper. I keep the spirits happy, and they keep out of sight and out of mind."
He takes another swig of his brew, "Really, the castle should be thanking me for what I do."

You sigh, and sit down. There was one thing you wanted to ask him.
"You've been doing this a while, right?"
"That I have! I was once an adventurous young spirit myself." He looks at his drink for a second, "Well, until her father settled down. Then I guess I sort of grew up on my own."

"Then, Maybe ye might know something. There have been some.. incidents, around some of the villages. The people in 'em keep disappearing, and in their place always seems to be a large circle. Have you ever seen anything like it?"
He finishes his cup, looking downward into it. "Nope, Never heard of such a thing."
"Aye, well, if you can think of anything like it. Let us know."

"Aw, is that what you were busy doing the last few days?" Tuile says, stretching her arms out.
"Aye, that's what your useless hero was doing, Princess."
"It seems like a lot of work, I'm glad you're doing it instead of me."

Yuuki raises her hand to get your attention, "I'm kind of interested, that was that hero stuff you talked about before you left for Gallete, right?"
"Yar, sort of. Gallete was... not a very fun place. But we found out some things about the villages disappearing."
"What did you find?"

You tell her about the circles being some kind of summoning circles, but the direction they were pointed in didn't make any sense. Like how the direction of the summoning was pointed North of Gallete into the wilderness where, according to the archmage of Gallete, no one actually lived. Which has perplexed the makeshift investigation team that was set up to investigate this.

Yuuki only manages to ask one other question.
"Wow.. Anything else happen?"
"Aye, I learned that you should never get sick. Ever."

That causes her to visibly recoil, while the rest of stare in confusion.
"W-Why shouldn't I get sick? Not even with a cold?"
"No. Not a cold. If ye are even feeling a mild headache, I want you to come get me and not tell anyone who has a fluffy tail about it."
"B-but what about Anna?"
"ESPECIALLY not bunny princess. She'd probably hire a witchdoctor or somethin' to chop your head off."
"W-what?! She would never-!"

You take another gulp, "Yeah that's not what ye'd be saying if you saw what I did."

Andou speaks up, "You say this summoning circle, it was pointed north of Gallete?"
"Aye, there's nothing but wilderness there I heard, so I can't imagine what it would be pointed at."

He taps his mustache, "I remember there being a former kingdom north of Gallete in my youth. Much of the peoples of it were immigrants in other countries and talked of the whole royal family going kaput overnight. That was a long time ago, though."
"Do ye know why it went 'kaput'?"
He shrugs, "Haven't the faintest." He takes another swig.

Your group continues to laugh and chat with the guy. Really, it seems like it's really easy to lose track of time in a place like this. Especially with a guy that is as outgoing as Andou.

Fortunately, you also have a keen sense of when it's time to get going. Especially when all the guards and maids are probably scouring the town looking for her. So you realize it's time to say your goodbyes and hit the road.

"Well Andou, I hate to do this."
"Yeah, it's about time, isn't it? But hey, now that my niece has a hero protecting her. Maybe she can come see me more often, right?"

Tuile leans over to Yuuki, "I think he's talking about you!"

"That hurts, Princess." You say, taking another gulp of this liquor. "You know full well that it'll be Camille's job the next time this happens."

"If you don't mind me asking, children. Why are heroes suddenly appearing? The last one I remember hearing about was before I was born." Andou says, eying both you and Yuuki.

This makes everyone look around the bonfire and shrug. Tuile only takes a drink and sighs,
"I was going to summon him because I was supposed to, not because I was really told why. I think it's only Yuuki and Jack right now, anyway."

"No it's not." You say, shifting your weight.
"Eh?" Yuuki asks with a renewed interest in your conversation.
"There's another hero, I met her in Gallete."

"Hold it, there's another hero running around?" Andou says, ".. How many are there in total."
"Just the three of us, so far." You say, taking your last gulp of the drink before handing the cup back to them.

"You know, when I was little, I was told of a story of several heroes, from many different nations banding together to protect Flonyard. Were you going to do something like that?"

Huh, forming a crew with every hero in the land? That's something you haven't thought about before.
But now, you're really considering the idea. If the stars in Yuuki's eyes are any indication, she's thinking the same thing too.

Okay, I'm really sorry about how this thread has gone. I didn't expect to be feeling so bad tonight.

Thanks to everyone who participated. I may need to consider rescheduling the thursday threads if this keeps happening.

What has happened is a schedule change in my job has resulted in the past three weeks of no thread/bad thread. I'll try to work around it or maybe think of another day during the week we can move the thursday thread to.
