You set forth to find Solomon. Hugo had told you they were encamped in the church of St Anne. It was a new place, and getting directions there was easy enough. Most folk were happy to see you, touching forelock or bowing for 'your lordship', though you had no lands yet to your name. It had been a while since you had last seen Jerusalem, and the ancient city was a warren of tight corridors branching off broad main roads. Stalls were set and crying wares, mostly food for hungry pilgrims, and you had to keep a hand on your pouch for all the hungry young pickpockets running about.

You found the church, a humble place, and when you entered a grey haired nun greeted you.

"Would you be lord and master of these miscreants?" she motioned to a pair of shoulders that gambled in the corner. They rose and saluted you awkwardly. "At last he comes to fetch his dogs."

"Apologies m'lady," you said, and made an irritated motion for the soldiers to leave.

A young nun with pitch black hair and ghost pale skin led you to a door. "The black man rests yonder," she said in an accent you did not recognise. She had very blue eyes, and made no urgent move to leave.

You knocked upon the door.

"W-who is it?" came Adelheid's voice. You grinned, recognizing something in that voice. There was a scrabble, and the door opened.

Had she grown out her hair? It suited her, falling about her face in sweaty ringlets. She had a scowl for you. "Come in," she said. The pale girl peered after you curiously, hoping to catch a glimpse.

Solomon lay sprawled naked upon her bed. He had a black eye.

"Brother," he said, sitting up and covering himself with the pull of a blanket. He wore a grin. The man had grown a thick stubble since last you'd been properly together. Adelheid stood with arms crossed by the door. She had a cross look but her posture was much improved. She looked like a proper woman instead of a shrew made human.

"Soon," you say, "I'd like to gather everyone outside, meet up with our friends beyond the wall."

Solomon nodded. "Good idea," he said, "I'll see you out there with whomever I can find."

"Wait," Adelheid said, coming to the doorway, but Solomon kept walking without looking back. You saw small tears break upon Adelheid's face. She slammed her door shut before you can speak a word.

"That's a man," the pale girl said in her lilting soft voice, watching after Solomon.

"Who knows this land best?" you ask, and the handsome Syrian rides forth, a flourish of his lance. The womenfolk all give a little coo at his handsome grin and flare.

"I know this lands," he said.

"We need shelter," you said, pointing to the storm clouds.

He needed. "Yes, I know a place." He took his horse about and set a heel, and you were all left in his wake. He kept ahead to show you the path, but always ahead, until you came upon what looked like ancient ruins.

Old cracked open temples and collapsed pillars, in the midst of high lonely palm trees. A small oasis feeding them.

"A place of dead false gods," he said, "Used by Bedu some times. You draw your tarps upon the shattered ruins, shelter beneath." He showed you how, and soon you were all bunched up beneath high tarps. The crack of lightning came out, and you heard a girl whimper. Sabeen shook with each bark and flash, eyes wide and looking upward.

Some of the children were also scared.

You heard one of the soldiers swear as a fellow coughed on his neck. It was hot and tense beneath the tarps, and despite the hard rain beating down upon your heads, you were all sweating.

As for what to speak on, how about a story of Zeus or Jupiter if he's better known as that at this time? It's a story of a dead god who commanded lightning, and we're in the ruins of a dead god in a lightning storm.
