I am Helena the chosen of Athra, Witch of house, but I'm not really used to the second thing yet. It's not that important, really, because Athra is still the best and I have way much time to get used to it anyway. I just met some girl who is way strange but hey, she notices me and even though she somehow got through the locked doors she's pretty friendly in a kind of sleepy, dreamily happily sort of way. Oh she's still looking at me, bright eyes -are eyes supposed to have this color with normal people- droopy but but way intense. Hey, she's probably friend material, so best to not be all mistrusting and stuff. I nod, slipping deeper into the hot water. Ooh that's more like it. "Sure, you can come here if you want!" The girl comes closer, and even though it's way rude to spy I can't help myself. Her skin is cleaner than mine, small feet with red-painted nails -how exotic- leading to strong legs that are probably used to running a lot. Her hips are thinner than mine and sashay with every step, her swishing reddish orange hair that almost reaches down to them only making it more obvious how young-looking her heart-shaped face is. Fascinating!

Still, there's something like, really experienced in those half-closed eyes, like she's seen way more stuff than should be possible. It's kind of interesting because you can't make out what exactly she's seeing. Oh I need to stop staring. Maybe warn her. "Just tell me if the water's too hot for you and stuff I kind of like it hotter but if it's not okay just tell me and… is it too hot? Does it hurt?" She pokes her toes into it, flinches, then steps in. Her face has some really strange expression, now, kind of like pain but also kind of happy? Okay some thing I really just don't understand. She nods "Way too hot but…" I move to stand up, but she waves a hand and I stop. "…that can be good too".

No I don't get this at all but she has to know what is good for her, that is how we learned it at least. Always care for those who can't care for themselves, but be okay with those who can and support them in the things they want to do. It's really hard sometimes but maybe I'll learn! "Hey, if you won't mind and stuff it might be cozy if I help ya get ready, know what I mean?" She tilts her head to the side, blowing one of her cherry bangs out of her face lazily. Is that honey like scent coming from her? Hmm. Yea, it might! I kind of half nod, confused. "Uhmm sure, I mean, help me how?" She puts a bit of the liquid soap -looks like soap at least, if pearly white and goopy- on her hand, then looks at me expectantly again.

I do plan on returning to her fairly soon, but unless y'all are legitimately opposed to having PoV switches happen again EVER I'd like to use them every now and then in order to balance screentime in a somewhat fair manner.

You seemed to have given a lot of thought to the characters and I feel there's more you haven't even shown us. But I also feel that just like how you agonize over your updates you agonize over presenting these characters and who they are to us(maybe that's part of why you agonize over each update, I dunno). This has created a situation where despite not much happening yet we've really gotten to know characters like Maria and Eri real well. It doesn't feel like it's been a day at all. But at the same time it HAS been a day and it's kind of unnecessary to show off this much of the cast and who they are so early.

Basically, part of the pacing issue, from my perspective, is you try to cram too much of the cast into each post that you kind of forget we can learn more about them later on as the story continues. Thus we get stuck with the slow pacing.

Make strong first impressions, move on with the story, and show us who they are little-by-little when we cross paths again, you know? Like Liliana here. You made a strong first impression with her. We know who she is; we'll recognize her when we see her again. Same with Chuuni priestess and other characters that haven't been "explored" yet. But when they do we'll learn more about them.

I don't think PoV's are necessary for screentime since we'll get that if you just move on with the show. But I could be misjudging the situation so whatever. I don't mind them, especially for the reason stated, I just hope you don't switch solely because you can't get the other characters to show up otherwise. Because that probably means the story hasn't gone anywhere, you know?

Okay, full disclosure here. I fully expected this to die ingloriously/have myself become unable to continue/make some mistake and get trolled off the board/get sick within the first five threads or so and therefore felt I had to make it somewhat worthwhile.

Hence the confused pacing in those and the on-going tradition of slow progression in those afterwards, though at least my head isn't as much of a mess anymore.

So yes, you're mostly right, there is certainly this mindset at play here and I really hope to be able to rectify this as we go on.

I think what he's saying is that a big issue in quests is that it can kind of feel like the whole world is just sitting around waiting for the MC to run into it if you're not careful. Especially with how players really like to be involved with plots and characters and don't really like other people solving the conflicts in the story for them, since that basically happens off-screen(or to the side or in the background) and it doesn't feel like a story that's about them anymore. When an NPC does solve something it's usually because the PC delegated them to do it. Switching PoV's fixes that since it lets other characters step up and do important stuff without sacrificing player agency or making it feel like the PC is the only thing with agency.

Also a bit of privileged subtext is nice. Like how in a scary movie you start to feel the tension when the MC is about to open the door that you know has the monster on the other side. That kind of scenario and tensionn is hard to create if you never leave this one character's PoV.

Well, they aren't really OUR conflicts, or more accurately Maria's conflcts, they're just conflicts within the story.

Like the classic story of overthrowing an evil empire. You(not the MC, you the player) would take issue if someone else did that beside the PC that you're playing to do exactly that, right?

Bit of a bad example but the idea I'm trying to establish is that when stuff shows up in a story players want to interact with it and figure it out, and if it gets fixed by itself without player input it feels like it's pointless because it's the QM taking plot hooks and resolving them without us so why make it a quest and not a novel?

But at the same time some of those problems are tied to specific characters or something and while it might kind of makes sense for the PC to butt in and help them out a bit it isn't always logically necessary for them to be involved at all. But because it's a quest and you have player agency to worry about and fixing an issue off screen is bad QMing form it's how you have to do it. The players has to be involved in the process of resolving plot hooks because the players have to be involved in the story and that results in the MC feeling like it's the only character with a life if it's the only character you ever play as.

In this case, Maria wouldn't take issue because it wouldn't have been Maria's place to solve it. But if we only play as Maria then she kind of HAS to solve it because player agency. Obviously, it's not like everyone's gonna jump down Hex's throat if we complete ignore some plot hook in favor of others and someone else deals with it instead but if it was something we were interested in getting resolved wouldn't we want to be a part of that process?

That makes me take a step back, ooh actually yes, it seems like the "feeling" of her life really is a little fuzzy at the edges. Maybe oh, this could be bad, this could be real real bad if what I heard of that god is true.

She grows indistinct, like the mist that still fills the bathroom suddenly became way thicker, her cream-coloured blouse and almost too short skirt seeming to blur into the backround. Her life the thing that keeps her going though is getting stronger and it feels like it's almost forming a dome of light way brighter than is normal. Uooh, this is way strange. Looking at her like this it seems like she has a second face over her normal one, one that doesn't quite match up her expression but instead is always a few seconds ahead or behind. Though now, both of her faces look at me with the same amused grin.

Fair sure is fair, that's absolutely true. Really I shouldn't have spied but a cleric of THIS god of all things is just way strange to find here. She's just way different from how I thought they would be and from what little I saw of them when we went to one of their temples. Best to distract her, but with what with what… oh nice I got it and really *am* curious about that. "Now!" I say, trying to sound serious and all cleric-like and concentrating my will. Does this Voice of Ceremony thing even work on servants of other gods? Even if it does it's not reall meant to give commands but hey anything might help. After hearing no protest from he I continue really fast "How did you get into the room, you didn't even know which way it opened!!" Hope that didn't sund too accusing, but if it does bad luck she did sneak in even if she is way nice and great, if not as great as Senra of course.

Lilianna plays with one of her side tails and looks somewhere far away. Don't ignore the question, this is way rude! Really I'm just about to say something when she shrugs, regarding me sidw-- are those hearts in her eyes? No that's probably not right, but if she has them do I have the right to to tell her no? Right, rightt, she's totally right there. I knock, sudenly way too aware of my new style, then push the door open, the white linnen of my short-sleeved summer dress suddenly feeling way heavy.

"Welcome back dear, I was just about ready to go looking for you an--" Eeeh, Senra was worried!! That makes me really happy but also kind of sad. "--your look…" Oh no will she hate it? She will probably think it really doesn't suit me at all! "…your look is quite surprising, but you look even cuter in it. Come here". I step forward, and she pets me on the head, the flowers in my hair pressed against my head. "Where did you find these, dear?" I beam up at her. "Athra provides, Senra!" If I remind her often enough I'm sure she'll eventually see how great the Shining Lady really is.
