Hey OP, can you please answer if regular teaching raises Int?

With all of our schooling, I haven't seen any bonuses to it, but some people seem to think that there is a tangible effect to the actual stats.

"Stella, what do you want me to do?"
"Can you make me smarter?"
"Studying will make you smarter"
"I don't get it! I want to be big and smart, like Zoe!"
"Zoe isin't..." ~wait, saying that she's not smarter because she's bigger... would that be a lie?

"If you work hard, you will understand at your own pace. Then when you are her size, you will be even smarter" ~Eldric says condifently
"Really?"
"Yes."
"really really?"
"I promise. It's alright if you don't understand everything now. You can keep trying."
"You are just saying that to make me feel better" ~she says from under the bed, as she hides

Eldric reaches in under the bed and catches her hand.

"I promise, I am not lying"
"I want to be bigger, I want to be smarter"
"Please come out? I promise I will help you."
"Alright..."

regular teaching raises Int?
yes. I have given us a +10 int and wis for our 1 year of school, and several spell tricks over what we should have with just our Elemental skill
>>
>>35715795
>yes. I have given us a +10 int and wis for our 1 year of school
So it's +10 Int over a year for schooling, vs +10 in a day. There's no advantage to holding off on using levels to get the Int, then.
>>
>>35715905
So you'd rather take the easy way out over putting actual effort into it? Disgraceful.
>>

Nah, get fucked.
>>
>>35715975
>So you'd rather take the easy way out over putting actual effort into it? Disgraceful.
It doesn't work that way. If she went to school now, she'd get her schooling bonus and age bonus every year.

If she got all her age bonuses at once and then started schooling, her higher intelligence would let her better learn retain what she studied.

There are advantages to letting her have a longer childhood. Speed of learning and stat bonuses aren't among them.
>>
>>35715975
That's like saying that having good textbooks and reference materials is too easy, and that students should take the old, hard route of slate and chalk because harder is better.

"Listen, Stella. When I met you, you were half my height, remember?"
"Yees?"
"I made you grow. I didin't knew, at the time, what I was doing" ~Eldric gets her to sit with him so he can hug her softly from behind~ "I feel terrible about that. I think I took something important from you, doing that"
"You haven't..."
"No, I think I did. I want you to grow at your own pace. I want you to be as happy as you can be. Right now, you may think growing up will make you happy, but nothing says it will."
"But i'm dumb while i'm small!"
"No, you are not dumb. I promise"
"You promise?"
"Yes, I promise."
"You are not lying?"
"I am not lying. When Brass comes back, we can ask him if it would be good for you. I don't know about how it is for beastmen. Maybe it is normal, maybe it isin't. But I don't know. If it turns out that seeing you grow as big as Zoe is what your parents would want, I'll help you. But not before, alright?"
"Really really?"
"Yes, really"

Well, we talked with her a bit more grown-up like that we would have liked to, but she seems to be happy with it.

"Can we ask another beastman?"
"Sure?"
"There's lots of maids who are beastmen. We can ask them?"
"...I guess?"
"Alright"

As it turns out, pretty much all the beastgirls in the castle were age-rushed by slavers, and they simply do not know.

Asking Okaba is... surprisingly unhelpful. Some tribes value efficiency over everything else, while others prefer to let their children age at their own pace. In some, it is normal to see mothers that are just a couple of years old, while in some the 5/10/15 years milestones are sacred.

1/?
>>
>>35715905
The missing piece of the puzzle here is what beastman culture is actually like. Given the whole grow with levels thing and the other factors it is possible that they don't put much stock in childhood.

It's an alien factor, and one we don't have knowledge about. It's a glaring hole in the equation.

That's the opposite of what I said.

leaving her as she is isn't somehow better for her schooling. There are arguements to leave her as she is, but schooling isn't one of them, since she would benefit from having more intelligence when she started.

>>35716181
>It doesn't work that way either. Age comes with xp.
...yes, and as she gains xp she'll get stat bonuses. That she's growing up when she's gaining xp doesn't change the arguement that she would benefit from having higher intelligence during her schooling.

So, the idea that leaving her as she is would have a superior result for learning is false.
>>
Alright ive been neutral on this for a long while but you guys are arguing too much so im gonna step in, sorry if I step on any feels

>>35716095
>There are advantages to letting her have a longer childhood. Speed of learning and stat bonuses aren't among them.

This, pretty much.
To some tribes, aging and growing quickly is a normal part of their lives, while for others it is not.

What we have to decide, honestly, is, do we want her to have a longer childhood, or we want her to have a longer "youth period"? childhood is a wonderful period. You discover the world with awe in your eyes, and your loved ones take care of your every need.

But that's not really her case, is it? she's alone, except for us, and we can't take care of her every need. If she goes to an orphanage later, that won't change.

Personally, I think she would be happier to grow now, and then discover the world with friends (thats us) than to be a lost child alone in the middle of places and peoples she doesnt know, for 1/2 a decade longer.

Childhood is wonderful, and we all wish we had more of it, but why is it wonderful? because of our families. She doesnt has that.

If I was writing her story, instead of running a QT, I would have her grow.

I think that's the best choice, but that's me.
Do you want her to remain a child? because if you do, I think you have a responsibility to take care of her as she grows up. We should try and get dad to adopt her, we should take her into our house, much like we did with Lyann. We should give her that loving environment where she can truly enjoy her childhood. What remains of it, anyway

If you dont want to give her that sort of dedication, I think it would be CRUEL to keep her as she is.

So, and this is the last time Im going to call for this vote

+10 Int in a day is very easy to do when leveling Wizard, especially from level 1 to 3.
Wizards get +5 Int per level, and we just gained multiple levels in a single dungeon dive that didn't even take an entire day.

So really, you don't know anything about the system.

zoe is going to start leveling off when her mental age matches her physical age.

*sigh* Now I feel sort of awful for .... eh, I think I have a good idea.

Lets do this. We raise her WIZARD job 2 levels. That should give her a fair chunk of extra int, without pushing her class level up, this without aging her

Or we could switch her to nomad for a bit, and raise her 4-5 levels of wizard + nomad.

Again, that doesnt push her CLASS level higher than 9, so she doesnt ages, and when Brass comes back, we ask him and/or her parents for the best option.

I think everyone would be happy this way? we give her more int by rising her job a little, but not her class, thus she gets +10 int without aging.

Sorry, I missed the vote, I would have voted aging as that is what she wanted. She will not want to be left behind.

This way she will however be more comfortable in her own body and we won't have to hold her hand so much. Going from a smart 8/9 year old to 15 is not as bad as going from a 1 year old to 15 year old and having to be taught everything.

give her 2 levels of barbarian too, then :P

Anyway...

***
We go into the dungeon upper floors on our own. Just to floor 5.

We switched Stella to Wizard, and then from slave -> Nomad. Killing just two groups of mobs raises her Wizard level to 2. Then we switch her to Barbarian, and do the same once more. This gives her a fair bonus to her physical and mental abilities.

"This should be enough..." ~we leave the dungeon, and pick her and Lyann up.

Her stats are a fair bit higher than Zoe's now, even if her class level is lower.

Yes, this should help her a lot. She seems to be happy about it, too.

Now, classes go much smoother. Stella was an alright child, and now she's quite bright.

Zoe sighs a little. She's mentally aged into her early teens by now.

She doesn't wants us bathing her any more.

It feels a little sad. It's the right thing, but... it feels like our daugther just told us she doesnt likes us any more.

Well, at least we are still waking up to her hugs.

A week later, dad and mom arrive into the city.

We explain Zoe and Stella to them. Mom sighs, and Dad sits/crouches to look at us.

Eh, just a mistype. I meant Athena stayed home with Elli, obviously

>>35717314

That night, Zoe joined up and we all played together in the tub.
It would be the last time, she said.

Well, it's nice having lots of siblings.

The following morning, we meet with dad for lunch. He informs us of everything that has happened on his side. He made a deal with the shipwright dwarf, and it moved his shop to Eopolis. Since the city has several shipyards, adapting one to his needs, rather then building a completely new one.

Grandpa has decided that if the first three light cruisers prove successful, he will comission a large skyship to use as the family's new stronghold, a flying skyship he's already named the "Crusader", even if not even the blueprints exist for it, at the time.

"How much is that going to cost?"
"I don't know, but your grandpa says he's had it with the nobles in the city. The Crusafer will cruise over all the coalition territories it is accepted into, and act as a mobile fortress against roaming bandits, deserters, and of course, monsters."
"Does that means he is selling the keep?"
"I... don't know. I know you haven't even seen it, but I feel it is part of your heritage and have a right to live on it if you want."

That week was fun. We had lunch with dad and mom at the inn, and sometimes dad joined us in the dungeon. Sometimes he dragged mom along, as well.

When their 2nd honeymoon is over, mom announces that we are going to have a new family member in 9 months.

It's kind of embarrasing to see dad and mom kiss, but it's not a bad thing.

Well you do need some optimistic people, evens the spread. Normally the pessimists are right and they (should) occupy most of the population but sometimes they ain't lying and acting pessimistic was actually the incorrect choice.

It's why some animals keep the ones with inferior genes around. If a large change happens they might be the winners. Gotta plan ahead and hedge the bets, that's how you win at survival.

Their casualties are tremendous and nearly catastrophic

Okaba welcomes us with a smile. He has made a couple of shades that allow him to see the slots on items, but he cant get the identify effect from the ring.

At least, not for free.

"I think that I could enhance these (shades) so that by using a littlemana, we could get more info from whatever we are studying, but not for free the way your ring does"
"Well, that is quite good, still."
"It just irks me, knowing someone else did it and I cant"

Pretty much, though Lyann is a contestant in the Eldricbowl. She's a bit older, but beautiful enough and old enough to not have the problem that a sociolgist stated. Can't remember the name of it, but he did a study of the Kibbutz and found it odd that children in the same pool seldom married anyone within it. Something about critical years and the like.

Would appreciate it if someone knew the name, but I believe Lyann wouldn't have triggered it within herself, for we were already well past the point of it given how we're mentally way older than 9.
>>
>>35719065
Oh, same guy, but I just thought of something. Provided that our knowledge of it hasn't degraded to a critical degree. We should totally teach our buddies "English" as a code language. Alphabet and all. A totally alien language, so long as it ain't associated with Lovecraftian cults we got some serious shit we never really considered.

Hell, for all we know it may be a language of power. To speak it, is to shape the world much like "High Speech" Atlantian is in WoD. Something to look into at least.
>>
>>35719175
that...is incredibly suspicious.

How do you plan on introducing it? "Hey, I just thought of a code language we could use. I have a whole dictionary of terms already memorized."

biiiiiit of a stretch. Maybe teach the alphabet first to Okaba, then do word-of-the-day stuff so it's believable.
>>
>>35719253
You first introduce them to the concept. The world is but a collection of cyphers, of symbols. Can't really deny that, codes are a very useful thing. A nod, a gesture, a syllable, all contain meaning to those who are in the know.

The best cyphers are not known commonly, they are beyond the un-initiated. Lucky you are, that a true member of the circle deems you worthy of these secret rites.

A new language, a new way of conception. We could have entire conversations right next to our enemies without them understanding a single word. The ways they could misinterpret "profane" language like "Fuckin' A'" or "Hell yeah!", it is a most covert form of revolution.

A secret that is anything but... Shit may happen because of it...
>>
>>35719752
So give the impression that it's an invention, then "develop" it slowly as a "hobby" by looking at a normal dictionary and remembering the english version. Sounds plausible.
>>
>>35719802
It gives a kind of novelty. One of the girls could get really into writing "fiction" and use our native tongue as a "fantasy" language.

May not do a damn thing, but that we have access to such a tongue can work out for us in any number of ways. This is but one of them. A full language in the head ain't nothing to sneeze at.
>>
Depends, how important is a secret communication.

Does that helm allow us to keep secret chat also?

What else should we bring into the world then? I know I have been pushing for dyes/perfumes for money, other then that do you think we could make a simple steam engine? I know the QM mentioned it on the first few threads as a way to unlock craftsman. Would be good for airship propulsion
>>
>>35720129
I'm still hesitant about the really big industry stuff. We don't have enough political influence to keep it in check.

Luxury stuff like dyes, perfumes, and soaps should be safe, although we may get raided at some point.

What about figurines and paints? If we can make a plaster or resin, casting figurines shouldn't be too difficult. Then, as more people buy, we start selling really high quality figurines carved with magic. Just make a summon in the shape we're looking for, then match the figurine to that.
>>
>>35720259

Well, remember, once we do something one time, we can easily make a lot with the craftsman job.

Something like an engine I would likely make one, give it to dad and then to gramps and let them worry about it
>>
>>35720383
>give it to dad and then to gramps and let them worry about it
Can they be trusted with an industrial revolution?

>>35721175

Shows the political consequences of trying to make peace with the orcs are above our heads, especially as an 8 year old.

We should find something else to do in dwarf town.

we had the following rumors to play with.

>* A master craftsman has brought back the secret for making flying ships from his trip to the far east. (solved, he is employed now)
>* Some elf slaves have been dissapearing as of late (you solved this one already)
* There's rumours of orcish war parties closer to the city than they have been in the last hundred years. The locals blame the Alquian empire, saying they are supporting the orcs (above, politics too much for us)
>* There are rumours about some of the plants in the reserves coming alive and attacking woodchickers. People is worried the fine woods industry is in danger. (killed murder tree)
>* There are rumours of a Cauldron of Plenty supplying the Alquian troops with food supplies (We got more info on it, passed it on)

We could of course go to the temple and get our priest jobs unlocked if we hit 20 healer and then find out more on what causes slavery. As that is pretty obviously is something that upset us.

Weird, spy glasses were considered very important in our past.

Probably another case where the world gets distorted by being more game like.

I have a question on being a craftsman, it sounds like if you have made something once you can just use mana to make it again. Does that mean a craftsman can more safely make things then they would at this time in our world? We'll other then doing it for the first time. Probably having the right equipment speeds up the process too. Complex mechanisms probably need to be made gear by gear too.

Good morning OP, I just came back from university, I'll check the archives for yesterday and will join you tonight.

Also, we should try and talk with the orcs about going neutral, so it won't cause too much trouble with elves and dwarves. Maybe if we can't promise them aid in case of Alquians' reitaliation, we could try to help them build a defensive line without forcing them to emigrate. We should really talk to them about this.

Yeah. We don't even need to permanently stop shipments of ore. Critical supply shortages should happen after less than a month, given what we've learned about the enemy army's situation.

Maybe negotiate a 2 month purchasing agreement for their ore. Send it to the dwarves or albion or something.

They're already neutral right now, and as long as we don't mess up anything by trying to do anything about it, they'll naturally switch to our side without pissing off the dwarves or elves.

Quite possibly. The way around it is to make sure the mob is a "mindless" mob of some sort. And since they respawn anyway and don't have a sanity to corrode, due to being mindless, there's no need to worry about their ethical treatment! Mind you it's a pretty morally shaddy thing to do, so it's not like I'm gonna advocate for Eldric to try it. Fun thought though.

>no actual basis in what was said.
Our dad said that "He thinks the orcs may be ready to switch allegiances".
That is right there a direct quote from King's post.
How is that interpretation wrong?
>>
>>35725671
Eh, it's only an issue if soil erosion is actually a thing. Which it doesn't have to be. Just say the terrain types for the world are stable in and of themselves, and don't naturally change in a way similar to Earth.
>>
>>35725694
>"He thinks the orcs may be ready to switch allegiances".
And then immediately talks about how the dwarves and elves don't want that. So the orcs may want to change, but if they approach the alliance dwarves veto it and if they approach the elves, they get turned into pincushions.

Their willingness to change is only important in that we could use it to force through a change that would otherwise not happen.
>>
>>35725643
Eh, we were told that the orcs will likely stop backing the enemy because of the pressures to produce so much ore. I can see how someone could confuse that for switching sides.

The Orcs would still have pretty bad relations with the Coalition due to supporting their enemy and only backing out due to the costs. They won't be friends or allies to the coalition even once they pull their support. Getting them to agree to an armistice or trade deal of some sort would probably help relations with them in the future but it's a prickly situation due to bad blood with the dwarfs and elves. If we tried to influence the situation at all it'd be best to do so through Honoria and convince her that making inroads towards the civilized orcs will have a net benefit for her kingdom and the coalition at whole (they won't turn back to raiding, they can become a source of trade, they will be less inclined to support enemies etc). That's a tall order though, and I'd not expect an easy success.
>>
>>35725671
what if dungeons constantly produce new ground within a range that's why cites are ult on top of them, so the city doesn't sink into the ground.

and nomads move so no one has notices this

thought this would also imply we could locate mega dungeons near mountains.

dungeons moving under the earth producing new land like volcano's in Hawaii.?
>>
>>35725741
>convince her that making inroads towards the civilized orcs will have a net benefit for her kingdom and the coalition at whole
We don't know that yet. We've never even met an orc, so prejudging like this is a mistake.

Magna Carata was indeed a shit game. It didn't help that the main character showed his ass crack every time you wanted to open a chest. The designs got pretty stupid here and there too. For example those foot tall platform shoes that you erased for the pdf image.
>>
>>35725741
About the best we could really do is get the to back away from their ally. However geting some sort of peace deal would be rather hard, I am not sure the dwarfs want it right away after a war.

The dwarfs and elves may feel they are owed reperations
>>
>>35725776
I think im gonna go with someone else's suggestion that the gods created the world and didint add erosion, so a "jungle hex" will be forever a jungle hex

ooh, I think I got the big thing for priests/shrine maidens now.

Devadasi can de-curse as their minor thing, and create/manipulate dungeons as their big thing

Priests and Shrine Maidens can change jobs/classes as their small thing, and manipulate terrain hexes as their big thing.

So a wealthy enough nation can replace "No man'd Land Hex" with "temperate grasslands" if they have enough money to offer to the gods in tribute
>>
>>35725718
The elves and dwarves don't want someone actively trying to negotiate with the orcs to change sides.
The orcs are going to stop supporting the Empire even without our interference, and interfering could make the situation worse with no appreciable gain.

>>35725741
But the orcs are already civilized. They already have cities based around foodgeons.

>>35725793

The orcs are already considering switching allegiances, why should we butt our heads in where it has a high likelihood of making things worse with no benefit?

>>35725777
I actually have two very different ideas for the orcs

On the one side, typically brutish barely cognitive people is the classical rpg trope

On the other side, the noble savage is popular, as well

Hell, for a while I was even thinking in making them somewhat snobby, tea-drinking 6" tall green-skinned brits with a tendency for violence, tho I blame DoW games for that.
>>
>>35725813
Hey King, could you clarify Dad's comments about the Orcs switching allegiances?

Did you play Tera? elf and castanic female heavy armor is hilarious
>>
>>35725886
>armor
I mean, there are some metal bits. Usually. But that's an awfully strong word for what they're wearing.
>>
>>35725812
>The dwarfs and elves may feel they are owed reperations

The dwarves... MAYBE
The elves, DEFINITIVELY, but they think the coalition owes them a LOT because "the coalition brought the Alquians upon them" so they will push for heavy concesions and reparations from the coalition after the war.

I even have in mind the rude gesture grandpa is going to make with his right arm while throwing them the finger with his left hand.
>>
>>35725837
I didn't suggest we do it, I pointed out that there are more options than just "ally with us or ally with them"

I stand by orcs being better than elves. the elves fucking went to war with us when we tried to help them because "hurr humans all bad".

Also, note that I didn't comment about the orcs vs dwarf thing. Strategically, its not worth messing the relationship with the dwarves. So any handling of this should start with the dwarves.
>>
>>35725912

Elves may find themselves with no friends then. The coalition may make peace with the empire separately from the elves and the elves may be left fighting the war alone as they pissed everyone off quite well.

Elves may demand stuff from the coalition and grandad may walk away quite pissed off, after getting a separate peace leading to a cold war.

Elves may have to beg for help later then.
>>
>>35725912
Now I'm angry, angry about elves.
>>
>>35725912
sounds to me like the elves need a good conquering.
>>
>>35725877
thats your fault for playing WoW. I was thinking Lineage 2, or maybe like the dragon race from tera... ah, Amani

http://youtu.be/0MRUO13e31Q

And what dad meant was that the orcs were going to quit working with the Alquian empire, but they are going solo. They dont like empires, as a whole. The Coalition doesnt looks any better to them than the Empire does. It has dwarves on it, after all

They did found hilarious that the elves arent on it, tho. They may go into raiding the elves since once the war ends, they wont have Coalition support, nor Empire support
>>
>>35725865
How about having the orcs be a race that freed itself from dungeons? A moderately powerful few survived a dungeon's death and banded together raiding and doing the typical orc thing, then decided to help their population started raiding and killing dungeons with Orc floors. They're still very prone to violence and are clumsy with civilization but are trying to carve a place for themselves in the world with the skills and resources they have available. Plenty of bad blood with other races that still consider them base monsters and they treat other races the same way, kill 4 lootz. Just an idea. I can't remember if you mentioned their origin at all in setting yet so sorry if this idea can't fly.

>>35725929
Pretty much yeah, don't want to fuck up relationships with the dwarves, especially since no other race can match their ability to craft shit.
>>
We should probably call them yellowstone instead of "the elves", we already know that there are non yellowstone elves that don't share their sentiments. Like the nomad elves who are basically amerindians.

>>35726009
>Orcs will raid yellowstone too
ha, so they go into 3 way war... all from their stupidity...
Shit, they could really use a coup detat by someone who isn't a total fucking moron.

>>35725877
orcs eat people, they are just savage, no nobility there.
the city orcs are a new thing, an aberration of orcs, they don't eat people, but they aren't savage nomads either. they are city dwellers.
I like that race =! culture
>>
>>35726009
Sounds like the orcs are at the small city-state stage, no nations just a tribal city.

They would not trust dwarfs cause of prejudice.

I say we look into slavery instead. It strikes us more then the last bit of politics.
>>
>>35726075
MY opinion > your opinion

>>35726182
agree
>>
>>35726186
yea that or good hood what ever
>>
>>35726055
I like that, have you read Drifters? basically, Jesus is the bad guy... I think.
Appeared and decided to save/civilize the orcs and goblins by giving them agriculture and such, and killing the humans because hes pissed about being crucified. And if you think thats wwird... well, its by the author of hellsing so, you know, can expect him to fuck with catholicism

Right
>>
>>35726220
Yeah I've read it up to the Jean fight. Bretty gud. WWII Zero Pilot cussing out Dragons while Hannibal hitches a ride with a couple of cowboys on their cart + Gatling gun while Nobunaga teaches the plebs the glory of turning shit into black powder.
>>
>>35726220
ok, that sounds interesting. off to read it.

>>35726182
I agree, but one of the things about slavery is that we need to have multiple nations on board.
also, it is worth mentioning that nobody is even thinking about invading the empire, only killing their invading army. they will regroup and attack again.

yeah that made me laugh a lot
>>
>>35726257
Yeah.

But elric needs to know what causes slavery and see through the church if perhaps humanism movement could be kicked off.
>>
>>35726317
>But elric needs to know what causes slavery
what do you mean "what causes slavery"?
people cause slavery. Someone is a slave because another person told them they are.
refugee elves in dwarf city? 10 years of slavery
orphan? state makes you a slave
criminal? state makes you a slave
etc.

grandpa is pissed at all the nobles fucking around with him, i bet they are the first obstacle for us. we probably need to have a little civil war and become an actual king.
>>
>>35726317
so take over church as living god?

depends. I am not sure if I should mention this since its a huge spoiler but theres a cult around your family, known as the "Cult of Light" in the north with about 5 million followers, or about 1/3 of the Eopolitan population, which would be ready and willing to be Eldric's army if he said "we need to assrape the slave breeders".
>>
>>35726346
why be king when you can

>>35726353
>>
>>35726353
taking over sounds like it puts us at war with all the other gods, who are quite powerful and can do things we cannot comprehend

also, keep in mind that its not like divine ascension is necessarily impossible. We know that dungeons each have their own "dungeon god". so it sounds like a small gods type of scenario.

Also, the two are not mutually exclusive. A reasonable plan is
>Step 1: King
>Step 2: Emperor of entire world
>Step 3: Small God - divine ascension
>Step 4: Major God - what, you didn't think all gods were made equal?
>>
>>35726392
well thanks for clearing that up you sure are a helpful QM
>>
>>35726346

Well yeah, people enslave each other, but there are often things causing issues that that encourage it.
> No access to credit, so you sell your youngest to get medicine for the rest of the family.
> Slave collars used as a crutch for other issues.
> No pus on the immorality of keeping slaves from the church.
> Foodungeons mean agriculture is rare, also slowed up developement of things that increase value of labor.
>>
>>35726363
Dad already warned us about that.
Told us to be careful of unintended consequences because so many people think our bloodline is divine.
>>
>>35726363
You see that is an easy yet shortsighted solution. You *can* flat out ban certain practices, but that will only push them underground and likely increase overall violence within civilization. Just look at what prohibition did, never would have had Al Capone and the Mafia wouldn't have gotten so successful without it.

The best way is the slow but subtle change. Convince the people that such things are wrong. The reason slavery is so rare nowadays is because the average person now sees the practice as wrong in and of itself. Thus, they police themselves, rooting out and destroying slave owners whilst freeing the slaves they encounter.

You'll never totally eliminate such evil practices, but through the subtle route you ensure they are kept to a minimum. Violent prohibition just fucks shit up even more.
>>
>>35726466
none of those stem from the church
none of those are solved by "taking over the church"
>>
btw here are the raws for the continuation of the manga.
Sadly noone is translating them, but here they are

1. by that argument we should legalize murder and rape too.
2. muslims have had alcohol prohibition without any of those effects, details matter
3. USA prohibition on alcohol was a failure, but the modern prohibition on hard drugs and slavery in modern times works just fine. (for it. drug dealers in mexico are a huge problem fort he locals, funded through sneaking the drugs into the USA, and slave trading is a problem all over the world)
4. Gun bans exist and effectively keep populations disarmed in many western nations.

Basically, you need to consider the situation as a whole. As well as the effect of small changes accruing one after another. You don't just have a huge massive change overnight and expect it to have no issues. But you also can't just assume that change is impossible just because its hard.
>>
>>35726503
>>35726736
Also worth mentioning

will banning child slavery 100% eliminate its existence? no
but it will vastly reduce it.

do you have a better plan that will reduce it more than making it illegal?

also, alcohol is a consumable. a slave is something you keep in your house. people notice.
>>
>>35726685
No, but if you want a movement for good, the church is the best way to start here. I never said about taking over the church either. Just mostly starting or talking about a reform/humanist type movement.

Starting actual sentient rights discussion or movement would be a good thing and the church would be a good place to start as it has the furthest reach. Many of the priests would likely also be possatively disposed either way.
>>
>>35726736

war on drugs is a failure.

Too costly to enforce, and drugs are far cheaper now than they ever have been. excluding weed, because that shit can grow anywhere.
>>
>>35726736
>by that argument we should legalize murder and rape too.
dont know about rape, but murder has been legalized and regulated for a long time now, its called the "death penalty". Basically, only the state is able to decide on when it happens, and by extension, makes us all participants of it

mexico/USA

I wonder how long for the USians to start trying to flee into mexico and the mexican army to shoot them on sight to stop ebola from entering the country

>Gun bans
Ok I cant say this without sounding political, but I think gun bans are retarded. You end with law abiding citizens who are unarmed and criminals who are armed.

In my country, its 400 bucks for a gun license, yet hardly anyone bothers to have one.

I really am supportive of banning slavery of those under 16, tho. You know, only legal adults who have comitted crimes, tho I wonder, what happens to minors who have comitted crimes, then?

>>35726770
>war on drugs is a failure.
yeah but i dont see how thats related to the conversation
>>
>>35726765
Some anons have been saying that.
>>35726353

>>35726770
The war on drugs is totally irrelevant to the argument, as is the availability of drugs.
The argument was about drug CARTELS and their power in the land. The claim was that drug cartels operate with impunity in any nation that has banned drugs. My counter argument is that it is not the case. The drug cartels operate with impunity in mexico, they do not in first world countries.
>>
>>35726937
you know, I think the fact the drug cartels exist is proof enough that conspiracy theories are bullshit

If there was a big shadow government, wouldnt it be able to send an assassin to snipe a cartel boss through a wall with a high-powered sniper rifle from a mile away? and then the next guy to be in charge, and so on, until noone was?

Anyway, the new thread is here
>>35726936

Im gonna take a shower, you guys migrate whenever you want
>>
>>35726882
>dont know about rape, but murder has been legalized and regulated for a long time now, its called the "death penalty
ending a life =! murder
it can be murder, or it can be something else. like an execution.

>Ok I cant say this without sounding political, but I think gun bans are retarded.
I 100% agree, but that has nothing to do with the argument in question.
>You end with law abiding citizens who are unarmed and criminals who are armed.
In the short term. In the long term some european nations have practically no guns at all, not even in the hands of criminals. They have 5x the violent crime rate, but that is done via knives and other melee weapons.
the point I was making is that it is possible for a ban to nearly eliminate the occurrence of a thing.
That doesn't mean that the results are positive, they are very much negative when you ban something good like guns. (yes, guns ARE good, without them the entire world would still be a feudal society. I am a card carrying member of the NRA)

>I really am supportive of banning slavery of those under 16, tho. You know, only legal adults who have comitted crimes, tho I wonder, what happens to minors who have comitted crimes, then?
that really depends on the crime in question.
>>
>>35726968
>you know, I think the fact the drug cartels exist is proof enough that conspiracy theories are bullshit
>If there was a big shadow government, wouldnt it be able to send an assassin to snipe a cartel boss through a wall with a high-powered sniper rifle from a mile away? and then the next guy to be in charge, and so on, until noone was?
Heh... but what if that is what they want you to think? (sarcasm)
although, the NSA spying on everyone is one.
Heck, the snowden leak showed that the NSA has inserted spies into major companies to ensure that when they create international security and encryption standards, they use sub par ones that can be cracked.
>>
>>35727005
>it can be murder, or it can be something else. like an execution.
oh, and another thing is can be is "self defense".
>>
>>35726736
Way to strawman bro. Rape is also a poor example for your argument. People hate rape in general already, it has become part of the culture that rape is wrong. Anybody who was a known rapist would be eating lead from vigilantes if they weren't being locked up. Hell, even the other criminals look down on them. Rapists are near the bottom of the prison totem pole, only slightly above child molesters. The latter don't last very long in the general population, they shank those bastards, because that's so hated by everyone even other criminals hate it.

That's what you want, the general public hating a certain practice. That's what really keeps it down. If something is illegal, yet not hated, it will spawn a highly profitable criminal underground. That's what you want to avoid.
