Today is June 25th, UC 0084. You are Dominic O'Hara, a Commander in the Titans anti-terror organization and squadron leader of the “Grim Guard”, stationed aboard the SCV-82 Valkyrie.

You're still not sure what to do.

It's been several days since you met the former terrorist Syam Vist, the man behind the Foundation that has been manipulating political and economic events throughout the Earth Sphere for the last eight decades or so. He left you with a full rundown on a mission plan he concocted to gauge the long-term strengths and intentions of both Mars Zeon and the Jupiter Empire, and the subsequent argument between your teammates has dragged on ever since you got back to the Valkyrie. Even ALICE is devoting most of her runtime to the question.

It's a relatively simple plan on paper. Syam has acquired a stricken Zeon helium carrier from just before the war: the Nagato. It's a large vessel, with lots of room for refitting, and the seniormost Vist has made good use of his resources to do just that. The new design incorporates a large mobile suit hangar, extensive repair and fabrication facilities, hydroponic greenhouses, and enough He3 tanks to operate independently for at least two years. Diamagnetic repulsion lines are being installed at this moment to give the living quarters a form of artificial gravity, probably cribbed from Haman's designs, along with Minovsky Craft devices to keep the ship aloft in atmosphere. Above all else, several particle cannon turrets and an absurd number of laser anti-air turrets have been installed across the ship's hull.

GOD DAMNIT. I wanted to ask him if he could look into some stuff. Specifically Where-In-The-World-Is-Ronan-Voight?
>>
>>35753492
I was hoping we can get him to help us move some personnel around in case the Titans come after us. Or help us find some safehouses for our families.

Nice our own Jupitris

The finished product is nearly two kilometers of pure functional beauty wrapped in creature comforts, and it can all be yours: if you leave the situation in the Earth Sphere to run its natural course for the next 42 months.

And that's the sticking point.

While you're out skirmishing with Mars Zeon and surveying the ever-illusive Jupiter Empire's assets, Titans, the Principality Remnants, the EFSF regular forces, and the Republic of Zeon will be staring each other down from their respective corners. Colonel Voight could use that time to launch more and bolder raids from the Garden of Thorns, Titans will likely continue down the road of no-knock raids and disappearings, the EFSF will likely fracture over differing opinions regarding Titans, and the Republic will grow increasingly defensive and isolated. The Sides and Earth could very well slip back into renewed warfare.

Basically, going on this mission would require leaving it to the whims of the very same powers who fucked it all up in the first place. In return, you may end up with better long-term plans against enemies you can be fairly sure will be coming for you in the coming months and years, but that no one else is prepared to fight.

You heave a sigh and flop back onto your bed, wondering silently at the myriad of variables in play: the personalities, the force deployments, the long-term strategies. Thinking five steps ahead multiplies the possible outcomes exponentially, forcing you to even reconsider the basics of what you THINK you know about the situation.

Maybe a new perspective would help.
>Your combat team. They have a sense for your enemies: what they want, how they'll get it, where they'll clash.
>Your bridge team. They've got more of a “big picture” view, especially where the political positioning is concerned.
>Your auxiliaries and 'guests'. As much as you hate that some of them are still relative “outsiders”, that sort of perspective is what you need.
>>
>>35753557
That too. But the main thing right now is tracking down that sleezy fucker. We take him out and we have Nina's secret base PLUS a place to stash our families.

Also, the cyber-labs and possibly sending reinforcements to Cima. She's backed into one hell of a corner.
>>
>>35753492
He doesn't know any more than Titans or the rest of the Federation does. His children are running around pulling shit without his permission, and he couldn't tell you which it was that contacted the Principality remnants.

>>35753557
He has no authority over Titans, or the EFF. He has leverage on the Federation Assembly, which has a different sort of usefulness.
>>
>>35753570
>>Your bridge team. They've got more of a “big picture” view, especially where the political positioning is concerned.
>>
>>35753570
before we make a decision ii would like to know if we go to Jupiter will we miss the Start of Zeta Gundam? cause i really want to get to Kamille before Char does
>>
>>35753570
You know who would be a wild card in this? Casval. We could get his opinion. We enjoy trolling the shit out of him, but having his opinion would be incredible.
>>
>>35753570
>Your auxiliaries and 'guests'. As much as you hate that some of them are still relative “outsiders”, that sort of perspective is what you need.
Johnny's former retinue and wingmates would have some insight on what he might do once the staredown stalemate breaks down.
>>
>>35753629
It will take 42 months, starting in June/July 0084.

So yes. You'd be a late entrant into canon Zeta/ZZ. But 'canon' no longer has any relevance.

We never talk to them.

if Kamille has already buddied it up with Quattro our chanses of making him our protege becomes nill, and that has been one of my biggest hopes for this quest
>>
>>35753570
Syam said that he had plans for another crew to handle the Jupiter situation if we chose not to go. Did he tell us anything about them?
>>
>>35753742
No. He compartmentalizes as hard as Anaheim does.

He knows things he has yet to tell you, and clearly has plans of his own for how to accomplish his goals. And telling you would add a layer of complication to his long-term calculations.
>>
>>35753790
Goddamnit, Seldon.
>>
>>35753682
I kind of want to get into contact with Cima at some point and see what she has kicking. If we decide to be space pirates and go to Jupiter, she can give us pointers. Hell, she might even join us.
>>
>>35753615
No, I meant as in find us a safe place where we can hide our families when the Titans come down on us.

I wish could talk to each group seperatly to get an untainted perspective from each.

On the subject of the Purus from the last thread...
Since Axis is using the incomplete Psycommune systems, and making up for it by drugging the pilots to high hell, It is probable that they would be in a worse condition than that one pilot Artesia was working on...
>>
>>35753661
You know, that's not a bad idea.
>>
>>35753812
Speaking of Cima, we could give her the info we came across pointing towards the location of the Garden of Thorns. She could send us reinforcements when we eventually go for round 2 against Voight and take the installation for both of our teams.
>>
Here's a thought. Could we somehow convince Vist to get Kowen out of custody? He's far more superior than the rest of the Admiralty is.
>>
>>35753615
>he has no authority over Titans

Then how in the Hell are we going to explain to Jamitov and Riddick that we're leaving for Mars and Jupiter?

>>
>>35753570
Well, nothing ever gets done if you spend the day flat on your ass.

"ALICE," you address the ceiling.

"Yes, Commander?" the familiar, sweet voice replies from your desk.

"Who's on the bridge?"

There's a momentary pause as the AI checks. "Captain Joshua, Miss Kar, Miss Takisawa, and Miss Hollinger."

"Are Catharine and Noel up and about?"

Another pause. "Miss Anderson and Miss Blitzen are currently in the ready room. I believe they are having coffee."

"Tell them to bring a pot up to the bridge for me, would you?"

"Of course, Sir."

Rising to your feet, you pull on the baseball jersey Carya and Catrina got you for Christmas and step out of your room. You pass the ready room, glide up an access tunnel, attracting a few approving looks from passing crewmen, and step onto the bridge.

"Guys, I need help deciding," you announce.

"Are we the first ones you came to see?" Reiko asks innocently.

"Yup."

With a frown, Miyu passes Defrah several small bills.

"... though I'll probably end up making the rounds," you add thoughtfully. Slouching, Defrah now passes those bills to a grinning Reiko.

>Do you have any specific issues to discuss with Karen and the others, or should I just plow forward?
>>
>>35753964
He has power over the Federation Assembly. As is, Jamitov would only be too glad to get rid of us when the Assembly suggests to send an expedition to Jupiter to investigate how Zeon remnants are getting He-3.
>>
>>35754010
It'd be ostensibly to see how Mars Zeon is getting things OTHER than He-3 as well.
>>
>>35754004
by the time we return the civil war will already be ongoing. so we join the AEUG
>>
>>35754006
Logistics, perhaps? Sure, the Nagato has fabrication and hydroponics systems. But where are we going to get the raw materials? Even with raiding for supplies there are going to be a lot of difficulties keeping the mobile suits running. I'm sure there will be some parts we just can't make on our own, and that have no ready equivalent in Mars Zeon's designs. Are there any plans for resupply ships?
>>
>>35754006
How big of a hit to Federation and public moral would our disappearance cause? The soldiers of the Federation, the population of Industrial 7 AND the Republic see us in a very positive light. If our presence vanishes, what happens?

How ready is the crew for an extended leave of absence from the Earth Sphere?

Have we received anymore support from Vist regarding mobile suits and supplies? Replacement parts? Technical teams? The Zeon ship is massive. Our current crew and pilot roster will not even be capable of properly defending the whale.
>>
>>35754093
The Jupitris class, which is like what was pictured but with less armor and noguns, was supposedly capable of processing metallic asteroids.
>>
>>35754110
people might asume the Titans had us eliminated for being on Jamitovs shitlist. then we will mira
>>
>>35754006
What happens to Valkyrie?
>>
>>35754135
No, I get that. But are our machine shops going to be able to produce every last part in a Lilium III? They are very complex machines, and even with the raw materials we might not be able to maintain them properly.
>>
>>35754167
The machine shops on the White base could produce most of their parts. The Jupitris could produce Papsmear's custom-built machines.

So yeah, the Nagato would be absolutely capable of maintaining a few high-end suits as long as you could find enough asteroids.
>>
>>35754145
>assume

And that's why we quietly tell Casval, Cima, and a few other people we semi-trust, informing them we're going off to piss off the Jovians and Mussolini.

Our presence in the Earth Sphere would be better served I think in the long run.
>>
Whatever we do, HAVE to alert the EFF and maybe the TItans that Zeon has access to Gundarium Gamma, even if it's just a few words to the Admiralty.
>>
>>35754369
Yes that too.
>>
>>35754302
Well, alright then. So that's not an issue. I'm still not sure I want to do it, but at least we wouldn't have to worry about supplies.

I really am torn on it, you know? On the one hand, doing this sounds AWESOME. Being space raiders could be really cool, I can see a lot of interesting scenarios arising during our trip. On the other hand, we've got a lot of irons in the fire here in the Earth Sphere. I don't think we can just drop them for three and a half years. Too much could go wrong in that time.
>>
Are we going to be covering the Nagato in skulls and other pirate symbols?
>>
>>35754394
At least tell it Admiral Kowen, he'll know what to do.
>>
>>35754369
That's why I'm hoping we can somehow get Kowen back to do his job.

He's the only one who's going to listen to us, and who might actually do something.
>>
>>35754397
im more worried about missing the begining of zeta
>>
>>35754432
We need Blex and Kowen to team up.
>>
>>35754397
We have off the top of my head

Voight being a dick.

Titans going full Space Jihad against the colonies

Anaheim supplying Luna Titanium to Principality remnants.

The Jovians moving in playing EVERYONE like a badly tuned fiddle.

The Republic being boxed into a corner.

Riah going full Hitler.

Vist pissing in everyones Cheerios.

The Cyber-Labs.

And that's just the tip of the shit iceberg.
>>
I think I am going to side with sticking here. Like >>35754397 said there is too much left unfinished here and not the mention the personal stakes. We can deal with whatever Mars Zeon and Jupiter throws at us down the line.
>>
>>35754497
Right so we

>Kill the titans
>Kill the Jovains
>Aid the republic
>Take over the Cyber-labs

I don't know who Riah is
>>
We should go to Jupiter. What will become of our current ship?
>>
>>35754497
and we could lose our chance to recruit Kamille
>>
>>35754532
The Riah Republic, the only independent space nation that never had anything to do with Zeon.
>>
>>35754532
It's out at Side 6. Formally the Republic of Riah. Now rebranded Kingdom of Riah. They were involved in the Austrian clusterfuck we ignored for gold bullion.
>>
>>35754497
Would it be safer for us if we loaded our families up into the Nagato and went to Jupiter?

I mean sure, the people surrounding the Earth Sphere are going to get mohawks, wear assless chaps and reenact Fist of the North Star, but I don't think we can do anything to stop it.
>>
This might be a decent job for Amuro, actually. Gets him out of the Earth Sphere before things go to shit.

...in fact, it might be a decent job for the whole White Base crew. Which does mean we'd have to let Artesia go for a few years, but it would be for a good cause.
>>
>>35754517
if go on the mission we will never have a bigger opurtunity to rescue the purus when we visit marz
>>
>>35754006
"So what happens when we leave?" you ask. "I mean, IF we leave? We're the only Titans unit that the Federation regulars and Colonists actually kind of like."

Karen frowns. "Well, the Titans roster won't change otherwise. So while things won't be getting worse for our absence, they also won't be better for our presence."

"And our crew?" you press. "Are they ready for a three and a half-year deployement in the outer Solar system?"

Your Captain shrugs. "They chose this life. We'd have to allow anyone who doesn't want to go to transfer out, but my guess is most of them would stay on with us."

"What it comes down to is long-term planning over short-term planning," Reiko chimes in as Catharine and Noel come onto the bridge with coffee. The two seem to immediately catch on to what you're talking about.

"I'm just not convinced Mars and Jupiter are big enough threats to offset abandoning immediate problems in the Earth Sphere," Noel tells you. "Miyu? Didn't you tell me something similar?"

Takisawa nods in agreement. "We're not gonna come back to a stable Earth Sphere that could act on our intel anyway, so why bother gathering it NOW?"

Defrah shrugs. "I guess it beats being surprised."

Catharine seems to disagree. "We know the enemy here better. Why walk away from that to go fumbling around the asteroid belt?"

"It's strange, but I don't trust anyone else with either job, really," Karen sighs. "But the Earth Sphere is our home. My head has no idea what the fuck it's doing, but my heart's telling me we need to stay here."

Just for their veiws. but frankly it is really dumb to go gallivanting off to Jupiter now. If shit deteriorates into another war then what we do on the fringe is going to make fuck all difference as no one is going to be able to use what we acheive in any meaningful way.

True. The solar system runs on helium though. What's the best way to force people to listen to you? Cut off their fuel supply. They either run out of gas trying to conquer you or they submit to your demands.

Perfectly reasonable method for us to force Zeon and the Federation to sit down and talk instead of shitting on each other.
>>
>>35754763
Here's the critical question, though: is there actually anything we can do to stop the impending war if we stay? Because I think it was probably too late to stop by the end of the OYW, and definitely too late after even this universe's less devastating version of Operation Stardust.

We can do more good by cutting the next war after the impending one off at the kneecaps.
>>
>>35754946
Fact of the matter is, we don't know if we can, but we do know we could make this war a hell of a lot less bloody by keeping some of the factions on a talking basis.

Not to mention the titans problem, and our long standing desire to see the cyber newtype facility shut down.

>You want to hear from Emma and the 'guest party'
Emma might have some apprehensions, but will abide with the Commander's orders.
Apolly and Roberto has a high chance of staying in the Earth sphere because of their loyalty to Char. But they might follow Mineva if only to prioritize protecting her, so it's entirely up to her.
Serrana's choice would probably coincide with Haman's decision.
Dunno about Mineva and Natalie, but I am getting the feeling that the Jupiter mission would take them too close for comfort to the jaws of the enemy they just escaped from, and that it'd be best for them to remain in the colonies, along with Rebecca Fanning.

"ALICE?" you call the AI's attention yet again.

"I suppose you need me to find someone, Sir?" she asks playfully.

You shake your head. "I'd like you to order all of First Team to the ready room, please."

"You're asking your team, then?" Karen asks. You nod in confirmation.

As you turn to leave, you're sure you see Reiko pass Karen a banknote.

Downstairs, in the rotating hab blocks, you find that your team of Newtype pilots has assembled already.

"So you're seriously considering it, then?" Audrey asks.

You nod. "I've gotten Karen and the others' views already."

"Mars is the biggest threat right now," Haman insists, a cold-burning fire in her blue eyes.

Rosse shakes her head, disagreeing with her friend. "Earth and the Sides are nearly at war."

"Rosse's right," Carya adds. "We can't fight two wars at once, so we should solve this crisis before Mars ever turns up on our doorstep."

"You're just saying that because you want to kill Colonel Voight," Haman replies bitterly.

Catrina frowns back at her, her red eyes locked firmly on the younger woman. "And you're not the same way about Bernini? I know how you feel better than you think I do."

"Please try to look at it objectively, all of you," Audrey asks in an exasperated tone. "We need to solve the one that leaves s in the best position afterwards to deal with the other, and I think that means staying here."

Haman shakes her head. "And if we lose too many to the infighting we're even weaker against Mars, and we'll be completely in the dark about their plans."

"You feel really strongly about this, don't you?" you ask quietly.

"I do."

"Will you still fight at my side, even if I save your own enemy for later?" you ask her, catching her somewhat off guard.

"I... ugh..." she moans, resting her forehead against her palm. "I didn't mean to suggest... of course, Dom. We're in this mess together."

"Our whole species is in it together," Carya points out. "But I'm glad you feel that way."

Oh, hell yes. We just proved we can sanction their gas and became an immense threat to the neo-con loonies on every party. The alternative to hitting Jupiter in one all-out desperation attack is the Sides and the Earth Sphere serving under the new Jupiterian Overlord, the Almighty D after a few years. That's how they'll take and spin it.

As some anon suggested earlier, what if he had Amuro go to Jupiter. Dude is capable and we can hold down the fort here.
>>
Yeah I'm leaning towards staying unless we can guarantee someone else takes our place in the titans. As it is I am leaning towards staying and sending Amuro to go to jupiter with Char. I'm sure he would love to fight the Mars Zeon.
>>
frankly this should be delayed.

If we can find the garden of thorns through that tracking beacon plan, IF we do, we can mop up half the problems here in one go.

Stay: Get to help dictate the direction this conflict goes in, save lives and curb the titan killing spree/genocide and newtype experiments
We also get to initiate this war on our terms, hopefully lessening its length by a meaningful amount and costing less resouces, all of which would be needed vs the jovians.

Go: we gain an independant work base, but cut off from potential recruits, supplys, expertise and most of our allies. We lose face in the public eye that could be used against the titans, and any intel or task we do is not guaranteed to be capatalised on by the earth spear after its war. It is highly unlikely we can subvert the conflict in any meaningful way as an outsider unless said way is to cripple the hell out of the jovians and royally piss them off.

Note: if we stay, someone else who is capable will go anyway, so its not a do or die thing.

Jupiter has plenty of players we'll take an interest in recruiting.

It’s more that he doesn't want to go back to war, I think.

If he goes to Jupiter, there’s at least some small chance he won't have to fight and kill again.

If he stays here, the war will come to him no matter how hard he tries to avoid it.

Here's what I think. We call up Char, Cima, and Amuro along with Bright. We lay out what we know and what our options are. Someone has to go. I would rather it be someone we can trust that can take care of themselves. That or we see about getting someone else to take our place and keep watch on the titans.

Get Char on the horn. Tell him about Voight, and get him to somehow organize a united effort against him that involves both the EFF and the Republic.

This is mostly to plant some goodwill between the two parties, as a united attack against a common enemy. It's basically to lower the tension between the Feds and Zeeks, and to convince some idiots not to shoot each other just yet.

“Well,” you tell the team, “my mother always told me 'finish what you started, young man', so I should probably have Emma's team meet me up here.”

“Come on,” Audrey waves her hand towards the door. “Let's give the man some space.”

Rosse gives you a quick peck on the cheek as she leaves. “Dinner?”

“Sure. Maybe 19:00?”

“It's a date.”

When you're finally alone... or rather almost alone... you call for ALICE again.

“Send Emma's team, Ilia, and Artesia in here next, please.”

“Of course, sir.”

“You're great, ALICE. I don't tell you that nearly enough,” you add.

ALICE's virtual avatar blushes before disappearing.

It takes about five minutes for the various people whose presence you've requested to turn up. Emma is the first, accompanying Ilia, and Roberto and Apolly come in together. Which is definitely predictable, though they're also clearly wondering why they're here. Artesia is the last to show up.

"I assume you want to stay?" you ask Artesia straight away.

She nods. "My place is here. Since my brother's abandoned his name, I'm the only one in a position to even TRY to unite the Zeon factions in the Earth Sphere. I can't do that if I'm out around Jupiter."

Speaking of which, you have to wonder what Char is planning. As it happens, his wingmen are right here. "Apolly, Roberto? You know why you're here, right?"

"I take it you don't plan on drinking beer and watching the big game?" Roberto asks.

You shake your head. "Sorry, maybe another time. I need your thoughts on where Char's head is at right now."

Roberto shakes his head sadly before looking at you down his long nose. "I doubt even he knows. Mad with grief at the death of that Lalah girl, at driving his sister away, and at the loss of his child. He'll keep running rather than cope."

Apolly frowns, and his hard glare turns to the floor. "Never asks for help, that one, and never gives it. If things get hot around here... who can say but him?"

Elpeo Ple (who many fans insist on calling Elpeo Puru for some reason) is a young Newtype girl serving as a child soldier in Axis' military. She is rescued and recruited by the ZZ Gundam protagonists as a sort of little sister figure. However, it turns out that she has been cloned multiple times so as to provide an army of disposable Newtype pilots, and this ends in tragedy. It's been a semi-joking goal of ours to rescue the Ple clones and find them loving families.

"That's... disheartening," you admit. You feel somewhat disappointed not only to hear that nobody thinks he'll rush to join you, Haman, and Artesia, but that nobody thinks they can even predict where else he'd go.

Artesia shrugs. "He's always done whatever he felt like. Ever since he left me thinking he'd been killed as a boy to go fight the Zabis. I've come to accept that's just who he is."

Ilia looks awkwardly at you. "Why am I even here, again? I'm not a part of your crew."

"Karen and I put you on the Val Varo," you explain.

"Yeah," she counters, "on a temp basis. You never sortied me."

You shrug, considering the point.

Your answer is almost immediate. "You've been a prisoner far too long," you tell Ilia. "I'm willing to make you a full member of our crew, on one condition. You have to swear to me that when the time comes, you'll kill whoever our enemy is. Even if it's one of your former comrades."

After a moment of apparent shock at your offer, Ilia offers a sincere smile. "Commander, you've been had me either locked up or doing menial labor ever since I got here. Long enough my hair's grown all long," she adds. Looking up at her bubblegum-pink hair, you see quite a few blonde roots that have been steadily growing more visible through her captivity.

"In that time you've done more to earn my loyalty than any of my so-called comrades ever did. I'm yours to command."

You nod, reassured by her words and demeanor. "Good. Then where do you want to serve? In the outer Solar system, or the inner?"

"Inner," she replies quickly. "Oooh... feels good to have my opinion actually count..."

"Well," you announce. "That just about settles it, I think. I've heard from all our officers."

“ALICE? One last order of business today.”

On the bridge, you meet your assembled team. Most of them seem satisfied with your decision, though Defrah probably didn't care too much which way the vote went. Haman seems personally disappointed that you're not going to go fight her old nemesis on Mars, but calmly accepts your reasoning.

“You do what you feel you must,” she tells you, “like you always do. I'll continue to lend you my strength.”

After giving the young lady of Axis a chaste kiss, you order ALICE to open the Valkyrie's internal communications system.

“Attention crew,” Karen announces, her contralto voice booming throughout the ship. You can feel the crew's attention turning entirely towards the announcement. Engineering falls silent. The hangar deck is motionless. Those in the halls and corridors stop whatever business they were pursuing and listen in. “Many of you have no doubt heard that a plan was advanced by certain civilian authorities to take our crew to Jupiter, by way of Mars. This mission would bring us into skirmishes with Mars Zeon, and would require us to carefully analyze the military strength of the Jupiter Energy Fleet, and would take us away from home for three and a half years.”

“After careful deliberation among the officers and staff of this ship, we have decided to refuse that mission.” All through the ship, you can feel relief, as nearly two hundred of your crewmembers suddenly remember to breath all at once.

“The Earth Sphere is at a pivotal moment,” Karen concludes. “The world we all call home will be the center of another round of battles between pig-headed, intractable foes who care nothing for peace or the common good. And we, the Valkyrie and her crew, will be devoting ourselves wholly to preventing another disaster like the One Year War from plunging our species back into darkness.”

“I place my command once more in your capable hands. I'm counting on you. Joshua out.”

You have this weird, contradictory mix of optimism and pessimism about our capabilities. You think we're skilled enough that we could, all by ourselves, remove the threat of Mars and Jupiter. Honestly, just ask him to make us a small fleet. Or for help polticking our way into control of a titan's task force we can use to our advantage. Or heck, earmarking the General Revile for our use. Do we need more than 48 MS in a single ship?
>>
>>35757521
>Oh, I'm not sure what I was plotting either, nevermind.
Syam's next choice for a crew needed to take on Mars would need that ship where they are going.
And I can be patient until Haman's designed ship rolls out.

I'm going off the theory he built two of them. He's a man who operates on backups within backups. He had the Unicorn commissioned AND the Banshee remember.

Actually, now that I really think on it, he probably intended for two ships to go. One for Mars. The other for Jupiter. The crazy fucker. With us turning him down, it'll take longer for him to get what he wants, but he'll still get it.

I see through your plan Mister Vist. And I don't like it.

My suggestion is that we don't explicitly say "Hey, can we have the ship anyway?", but instead ask him if there are any resources he can provide to us. Because while we appreciate the importance of his mission, it'll all be for naught if we don't succeed in keeping things together back here. If he has any other supplies or materiel he could spare, we would be very appreciative. At the very least just implementing some of the same refits on the Valkyrie would be a great benefit. I want that diamagnetic pseudo-gravity system.

In case there's no backup ship, ask for help in curtailing Anaheim's unethical practices of selling to any and all sides of this lit powder keg.
Clehna already revealed some Vist family members are involved, so Syam could impart some info on how we'd prepare for how the AE CEOs might move.

Ooh, that's a good point. Ask him for his opinion on Martha, that would help a lot.

"Syam Vist, you're a slippery snake who has played people for longer than I've been alive. With a bit of deduction and roundabout reasoning, I've come to the conclusion the ship you've commissioned for this mission wasn't the only one. You intended to have multiple teams; one for Mars, the other for Jupiter to compartmentalize your losses encase one team failed."

"Am I correct, sir?"

Ask politely, but forcefully. Make it clear we don't want any of his bullshit.
>>
>>35757954
>Straightforward

Also mention that in the event that he has a second ship, loaning us the first one gives him a perfect counter against the Titans trying to steal the second.

FUCK ME. I just realized if we take the ship, Vist can use the fact he let us have the ship to force us to go to Jupiter or Mars if his other team fails.

Since the Valkyrie is still floating around the same cluster as Industrial 7 in an indecisive little orbit, it takes next to no time to make the return trip. The hospital is still as off-putting as it was the first time, and nobody acknowledges your presence until you see the same bald man standing guard.

"Yo," you greet the giant.

"You have an answer, I take it?" he presses.

You nod. "I do, mister..."

"Gael is fine," he booms back at you. "Come in. Though I should warn you, Master Syam's health has deteriorated since you were here last. Be brief."

Inside, you see the old terrorist in his bed, wilting flowers now resting on his table. Their pink and orange petals now decorate the table and floor more than the blossoms themselves... someone brought these, but it was someone who doesn't visit often enough to keep them fresh, you realize.

"You must excuse my... manners," Syam wheezes. "I would have managed a more gracious..."

"It's fine," you reassure him. "I'm here to tell you that my crew and feel that our responsibilities are here, in the Earth Sphere. We need unity here if we're gong to be challenged from the outside."

"Is that so?" the man asks you quietly, a trace of curiosity in his voice. "So... idealistic. I wasn't expecting that."

"Is there anything else we can do to assist one another?" you ask. "I was thinking you couldn't possibly have ONE of those ships of yours... something big like that might be a game changer. As things stand, we'll find ourselves out there with little support."

Gael seems shocked at the admittedly daring request, but Syam...

After several minutes, the fits subside, and the old man rests for a moment.

"I'm dying, Dominic," he tells you plainly. "Old age... such a novelty for a man like me."

You wait for him to continue. "I won't be able to see this plan through, but you must understand... I need you to convince me to part with the Nagato."

"How?" you ask. "How do I convince you when you clearly know..."

Syam silences you with a stern glare.

Because you are far from the only person planning and plotting, and it's so easy for one man's plans to interfere with another's. Dogatie, Hymem, Bernini...there are a lot of people trying to shape the future to their desires. Do you really think your plans have accounted for every move they might make? You shrug. "It's a gamble, old man. You know that. But you're a schemer, a planner. Just like Dodge-a-Tree, Hymen, Panini, and that other asshole are all schemers and planners."

The man is either too tired to stop you, or you've captured his interest, so you press on. "So if you wanna fuck them and their plans, put the tools in my hands and I'll do it by accident, if not by intent. You know my name, you know my reputation. If there was no possibility that me and mine could make a difference, I wouldn't be here talking to you."

"Gamble on that possibility, Syam."

For a few seconds he remains silent, before bursting into laughter. After the subsequent coughing fits have subsided, Syam nods, satisfied.

"Very well. Take the ship, Gael will give you the coordinates of the shipyard."

"Master..." Gael interjects, completely stunned. "Surely..."

The old man shrugs in his bed. "It's not like I had another crew lined up anyway, and since I'll be on ice soon it won't be able to serve my purposes any longer. I'd already gambled that you'd just take the trip to Jupiter hook, line, and sinker."

"Wait," you mutter. "You lied?"

"Of course I lied," old man Vist snaps back. "Didn't Doc Ward tell you ANYTHING before he kicked off? I'm a bloody terrorist. I blew up the first president of the world, blackmailed all his successors for eighty-four years, and the Foundation I started owns half the world through marriage or underhanded tactics. Of COURSE I bloody lied. I did it just to see if you'd call me out."

"Well, fuck," you mutter aloud. "So, we can really have the Nagato?"

"Take it," the man insists. "I'm not bloody well going to use it, am I?"

"Oh, but do me a favor," he asks as you nod and turn to leave. "Cardeas Vist has got a little brat named... something. Dunno his name, never seen him. But could you make sure he doesn't grow up to be a little shit for me? Just a visit or two to make sure is all I'm asking."

And wouldn't you know it, we happen to have a new ship that'll need a commander!
>>
>>35759622
Agreed. And checking in on a guy's great-grandson for him is already a great deal in return for the Super Jupitris. Now we just have to figure out how to explain this to the Titans. That's going to be tricky.
>>
>>35759595
Well, if we're getting a new ship, we can get Bright to captain the Valkyrie.

We can put in a good word for him to the Titans, get him to work with Nina and the Burning team alongside Amuro on training future pilots.
>>
>>35759466
"Sure. You want to talk to the Doc before you go into the deep freeze? Pretty sure even he needs a break from work from time to time."
>>
>>35759675
But we have two ships now.
Denfra can't pilot both of them, let Bright have the Nagato. It's a fucking fortress as is.
>>
>>35759670
We're TItans. Does ANYONE need to explain ANYTHING?
>>
>>35759643
I was always more fond of its upgraded form, even though the base Woundwart is damn sexy. Just look at this thing. If we didn't have the Lilium IIIs, I'd want a Hyzenthlay II-Rah .

Don't forget, we'll have a third here within a few years as well when Haman's is finished with construction.

>>
>>35759466
"Sure," you tell him. "Cardeas Vist... we can probably find where his kid is on our own. I'll see to it he doesn't turn out horrible."

"Good," Syam replies with a cough.

"And the Doc is actually alive, and on our ship," you add. "Faked his own death."

Syam forces himself to sit up. "Is he now... well, tell that old bastard I'm happy I get to go first after all."

"Will do."

Bright's probably the best tactical commander since Revil. Mainly because nobody else tends to actually bother with tactics.
Also, why the hell does every fleet in UC have as their only formation a big dispersed line?
>>

I think dropping him off to grow up with our father would be the best start. He learns the way of the kilt and the fine, subtle art of trolling. The Scottish way.

So it's a prime target for being sunk in any conflict.
>>

Is that not what a soldier or pilot is anyway? She'll get the itch to go after the Garden of Thorns when we tell her we have a good guess as to where it may be.
>>
>>35759888
I like TR-6 Woundwort goddess V-fin better.
>>
>>35760047
I'm just saying. It's more of a whale than than the Trafalgar. Exposing that fat bitch to any battlefield is asking for her to be sunk.
>>
>>35760047
Which is why we're putting an I-field on it ASAP. Between that and point defense to deal with rockets, we’re good against anything that can one-shot it.
>>
>>35760047
Which is why it needs escorts.
>>
>>35760109
It actually HAS escorts. The hundreds of mobile suits in her cavernous hangars. It's pilots we need.
>>
>>35760103
Which is why we'll use it to start colonizing Mercury.
>>
>>35760108
It would need multiple sub i fields really. A single large one is a terrible idea.
>>
>>35760149
And mobile suits, since we haven't filled those hangars yet. We'll get there, though.
>>
>>35760149
I more meant ships to escort it. Needs a few salamis kais to keep it company.
>>
>>35760178
And pilots too.
>>
>>35759820
Today is August 3rd, UC 0084. The Valkyrie is now safely tucked into the cavernous main hangar of the Nagato, which has been expanded aft to accommodate the 240-meter long carrier which is a little over a tenth of the larger ship's total length. It BARELY manages the tight fit... Defrah pulled off the docking procedure flawlessly. It reminds you a little of a shuttle tucking into the bow of a Musai.

Your first observation: this ship is HUGE. As in, jaw-droppingly so. The slightly jarring sensation of the rotating hab-blocks aboard the Valkyrie is absent, replaced by the gentle hum of diamagnetic repulsors that push your body into the deck plating, which has been well-fitted with teak, at a steady one gee.

As something of a joke, you have to guess from Syam, your quarters feature a massive bed fit for several people, along with a small lounge area and several work stations. Small doors lead to more private single-occupancy rooms to the bow and stern, and across the way is a sumptuous 'Officer's Spa'. Even the enlisted slobs far aft of your facilities have their own exercise rooms and a small swimming pool.

"This is exorbitant," Carya observes from your bed.

"Decadent," Audrey adds next to her.

"Obscene," Haman agrees.

Rosse grins at you. "Freaking sweet."

"So," Karen mutters from the doorway, where she's been standing for several seconds already. "I hope you're getting comfy."

"Sure are," you reply. "Almost too much so."

"Well good. Reiko just picked up some chatter from Titans... long range telemetry shows Axis moving slowly out of its orbit around Mars."

"We expected this sooner or later," Haman replies with a sigh. "I take it that's not all?"

Karen walks over and flops down in one of your room's chairs. "There's also some indication of a lone ship raiding Federation mining convoys on the edge of the Earth Sphere. They say there are three identical units that can use what the miners are calling 'remotely-guided drone weapons'..."

So long as the Nagato has adequate shielding to handle solar flares, we're good.

>>35760178

>>35760047
The Nagato has guns. Big ones, small ones, middle-sized ones. Enough guns to make most fleet Admirals cry at their sudden feelings of inadequacy. And a lot of those guns are fast-firing gatling lasers, perfect for anti-air and point defense.

It's the speed you have to worry about.
>>
We got nagato! Am happy.
>>
>>35760381
>It's the speed you have to worry about.

Okay, making checklist tactics against giant mirrors, colony lasers, and asteroids or colonies on directed collision courses then.
>>
>>35760307
It's probably so big we could encapsulate those escorts within the i-field the Nagato would generate.

>>35760381
>it's the speed

Syam did not magnetically coat the point defense turret mounts? Well, there's our first upgrade project. Plus, expanding the bow dock to accommodate a second ship once Haman's boat comes online.
>>
>>35760381

>>
>>35760381
I did enjoy, and I'm looking forward to next time. Because just seeing the reaction when we roll in with our giant doom-ship should be amazing. Also, I really want to at some point take this thing into atmosphere with the Minovsky Craft System. Because a two kilometer-long ship is impressive in space, but is downright terrifying when floating in mid-air.
>>
>>35760381
Random Questions:
How many mobile suits could the Nagato carry?
How much would a generic modern MS cost us?
How much an obsolete one?
Modern Escort (salamis Kai, Chivvay Kai, whatever)?
Obsolete escort?
So on and so forth. What can we actually do with all of our money, and how much really is it once we start trying to buy things?
>>
I wonder if the nagato has a strong enough reactor for a MDS like what mother vanguard and V2 has. That would fix the speed issue
>>
>>35760469
The massive flare from reentry would make everyone think another colony was dropping. Let's not unless we absolutely haft to.
>>
>>35760449
Or ships packed with explosives.

Closer to "we have something equivalent to what the Jupitris will be when it shows up".

Or maybe to a Titan from Eve Online.
>>
>>35760506
Nah fuck that, we gotta drop in over Feddie HQ unannounced and make em all shit their pants
>>
>>35760469
If AEUG gets formed, we should use the Nagato as our mobile HQ.
>>
>>35760519
More of a supercarrier from eve online (or RL). The titan is basically a mobile doomlaser that is only useful because nothing else will fire in high enough lag.
>>
>>35760268
Surprised Karen didn't join us on the bed.
>>
>>35760519
Actually, it's better than the Jupitris. The Jupitris is unarmed and can't enter atmosphere. We don't have those problems. Christ, Scirocco is going to hate us even more than he already would. It's not enough that we're beating him at his "Newtype super-pimp" schtick, we're also cruising around in a ship that looks like his but is far superior to it. He's going to do some drastic things to compensate, I can just tell.
>>
>>35760510
Considering our high MS capacity and big guns, those aren't really as worrying as you make them out to be.
>>
>>35760519
Pretty much this. She's a converted Jupitris. She may be big and powerful for the EFSF, but the Jovians have DOZENS of the things. Each one could be armed as heavily as the Nagato is.

>>35761212
Jamitov probably. People generally get mad when you Awox them.
>>
>>35761137
Not in the least. What genuinely surprised me recently was not going to Jupiter.

Actually, I'm not sure if I ever shared this, but I didn't expect you to get the Sisters in thread #1. I had wanted them to be a reluctant rival for a while, possibly getting a bit romantic then getting killed, or defecting much later. So I kinda rolled with it.

I don't even remember where my rails were going to lead anymore. I just hash out two threads or so worth of possibilities and wing it from there, taking notes the whole way to see what might happen the next week. Every time I put on my trip, there's a chance the endgame will change dramatically, and I love it.

Because we are somewhat irritating to the federal government. We are highly effective at eliminating threats to said government, but we give zero fucks about their political game of thrones.
