Just as you take another step, there’s a flash.

When the flash disappears you notice that your viewpoint has dropped by at least two feet, you are definitely not as strong as you were and somehow you kept your mind. You move over to her, now looking like another kid approaching one with a rodent.

She looks up at you, holding the thing in her hands.

You follow Nanoha in and she talks to the vet, explaining that she just found the rodent, which is apparently a ferret and that it’d be great if the vet could take care of it. The vet seems to be able to, so the two of you leave.

As you walk by, a bit of light conversation continuing between you, you pass a park.

“You wanna stop at the park?” you ask pointing to the empty place.

Nanoha looks at you, then at the park.

“I don’t know, I should probably get home…” she says.

You make a sad little face at her and throw your arms at the equipment just sitting there.

“Ah come on!” you say, “It’ll be fun, there’s nobody around, we can run as much as we want and there’s no lines. Besides, it’s my first time here, you can show me all of the cool stuff that you know.”

Nanoha seems to waver a little, but in the end she caves.

“Alright,” she says, “But only for a little bit.”

From then on you have what seems to be the best time you can remember. You start off with the simple stuff, some swings and slides. But you both quickly get bored with that and begin running around. Monkey bars, one of those merry go round things you both spin around on giggling, then a game of tag where you aren’t really sure who’s it, but you run around like crazy anyway.

Eventually Nanoha ends up showing you all the “cool” places around the park. There’s a small bridge off to one side, she shows you a small critter nest down there. Then there’s “the tree” which you both climb up, ending with both of you sitting on the limb of a tree, shoes kicked off to the ground and swinging your legs.

“I had a lot of fun John,” says Nanoha, smiling at you, “Do you want to play together again?”

Nanoha looks up to the sky, apparently thinking about something herself.

“Ok,” she says, turning to you, “You’ve gotta find your friends, but then you can all come back and we can all play together.”

You turn and smile at her, nodding.

“I’ll make sure I do,” you say to her.

“Good,” she says, “Because I don’t have enough friends like you.”

“I don’t think you have any friends like me,” you reply with a silly grin.

“Whatever,” she says, before reaching out and taking your hand lightly, “I’ll be waiting for the next time we can play.”

You smile at her, giving her hand a squeeze.

The shadow monsters might try and get the show to switch protagonists. So they give some of the background characters a powerful spell and tell them that it will only work with men. But the shadows don't tell the girls what it will do.

Fate looks at you seriously herself for a bit, taking Nanoha’s hand.

You shake your head.

I have a feeling that Fate's not actually a sentient, and that Nanoha figured that out at some point. And it hurt her rather badly when she did.

Fate finally seems to back off a little from that. Honestly, you can at least see where she’s coming from, even if you don’t agree with how she did it. It’s almost instinctive to be slightly worried about someone trying to nose in on someone you love, even if you know that your lover won’t respond. But it was still a little annoying that she came on that strong.

Fate looks at Nanoha, who just smiles and nods at her.

“I’m sorry if I came on a little strong there,” says Fate, seemingly actually apologetic, “I just get…worried, about Nanoha.”

You nod in acknowledgement of her point.

“I understand, it’s not every day you see a strange person so close to someone you care about,” you say.

Fate nods as well, gracing you with a brief smile and then hugging Nanoha slightly.

“Vivio is waiting at home,” she says, “See you soon.”

Nanoha simply nods and hugs her back, then Fate turns and walks off around the corner once more.

You instinctively pull her close, wrapping your arms around her waist and head, holding her as she cries her eyes out.

You lean down and kiss her forehead.

“I understand,” you say, “I didn’t want it to be like that either. And if you still don’t…”

She shakes her head in the negative this time.

“No…no,” she says, finally looking up at you, “I do like you John, it’s just…”

“It just still hurts,” you acknowledge, “So take your time.”

“Thank you John,” says Nanoha, before stretching slightly, her lips gently touching yours.

Thank you for your politeness. For adopting a kid together I think I remember Fate being the main adopter because of her parental circumstances. As I saw it Nanoha was helping out her best friend, who probably didn't know the first thing about being a mother thanks to her relationship with her own, and wanting to help Vivio. Very much a 'We help each other out and figure out this whole raising a kid thing one step at a time.'

As for sleeping in the same bed together that's also something I have personal experience with and don't think implies a relationship. I've slept in the same bed as my brother for years as my family has always lived in an apartment. So I have to share. On the not family front I have 3 best friends, all guys like myself. We're all comfortable with each other. If there is only one bed if there is room we have no problem with sharing. Other's will take the floor only if there is no room.
