Welcome to Banished Quest!
You take the role of a young mage labeled a criminal by his people and cast out into the wider world. In the last thread you cast spells on a blanket, chatted with companions, and faced moral dillemas.

You get up, pacing the room a tad faster than you were before. You can feel beginnings of panic coloring your thoughts, and endeavor to suppress that natural urge to act on impulse rather than logic. It is only with great difficulty that you calm yourself enough to take a seat once more, this time on your bed rather than on the floor. You decide to just slip into a trance and think of all the evidence you've gathered so far, turn the situation over in your head. Hopefully that will shed some light on the situation.

You fold your legs beneath you and slip into your trance. You start off by merely collecting all that you know about the situation, starting with both of your visits by that strange entity and the Three's seeming inability or unwillingness to comment on the nature of the cloak. Then you begin to collect details regarding the death of the previous Shah. The discovery of the shipwreck and Kadir's reaction to the news. The discovery of his corpse, drowned and half eaten but otherwise unharmed, on the Island. You recall what you heard in the control tower, that they were looking for the Shahzada on behalf of their 'client'. You imagine that could only be Kadir.

You think on what it really means to kill a Shah. To kill a man. Does it mean ending his life, or merely destroying all that he is? Could there be some other, more esoteric, meaning that escapes you? Why on Earth would the life of the Shah be important to a void creature to begin with, unless they had some vested interest in destabilizing the region? You're almost certain that will be the result. Knowing what you do of the Shahzadi, the one in line for the throne after Kadir, she's a ruthless ideologue. More of a warrior than a ruler. You've no doubt her rule would mean misery for the entire Shahdom, even if what she seeks might be an objective good.

>>
You all now realize that in order to create AIs, the guy who made Fulvia had to literally put a portion of his soul into them.
>>
>>35846775
Or his wives.
>>
That thought leads you to another. Who has the most to gain from the Shah's death? Your first instinct is to say the next in line to the throne. Considering her reputation for ruthlessness, you've no doubt that she would stoop as low as kinslaying. While many of the Shah's advisors and courtiers would be in a prime position to plot his death and while you're sure many would stoop so low, the previous Shah was well loved. Everyone assumed his rule would stretch on for at least a hundred more years, perhaps even two or three depending on his health. You'd even go so far as to say he was beloved. In your mind, none but Shahzadi Shahnaz could be the culprit.

If she is the one most invested in the current Shah's death, that brings you to the question of why that envoy was holding the golden orb of a soul between its hands, and that is indeed what you believe those golden orbs to be. It's curious to note that your dragon's soul was red, where as the portions of soul placed within artifacts was blue. You wonder what the significance of that might be, some sort of transmutation?

You force yourself back on topic. Why might the void creature grasp in its hands a soul? Was it yours? Unlikely. Were you without a soul, you'd be an emotionless husk certainly. You think back on your first meeting with Shahzadi Shahnaz. She stared straight ahead, didn't even acknowledge your existence. She seemed a artificial thing, unintelligent. Could she have really sacrificed her soul to ensure the success of her plans? Where would she have found the knowledge? You didn't even know the soul had a physical, or at least metaphysical, representation until but moments ago.

This finally brings you back to the original topic, what is it that this void creature wishes of you? To kill the Shah of course, but is it a request, a prophesy, or a command? Personally, you're inclined to believe it a command. A command that the creature is able to leverage you into performing due to the reliance you've built up on the cloak. After all, you lived for almost twenty-seven years now without every seeing massive void creatures of ominous appearance. Of course, an insignificant time in comparison to many of your contemporaries, but you believe it important none the less. This isn't simply something normal that happens, and it only began after you got the cloak from those three strange beings which seem so interested in causing trouble for you, even if they have saved your ass in the past.

You couldn't say what the consequences might be for disobeying the creature's command. Perhaps you'll lose access to the belongings inside your cloak? Perhaps your mind will be filled with endless, hellish screeching until you're eventually reduced to a gibbering pile of insanity? You're not entirely certain you'd like to find out, but at the same time you don't think you want to kill the Shah. Asshole though he may be, he doesn't seem completely irredeemable. Even if it physically pains you to admit that. Just how much wiggle room do you have?

>Perhaps... merely stopping his heart for a time would be enough? Fulvia has the power to correct such brief interruptions in life.
>You ought to simply go through with the task and kill the Shah. The fate of your country is independent of your own fate.
>You ought to empty your belongings from your cloak and leave town, you refuse to be a pawn in some cosmic game.

>Perhaps... merely stopping his heart for a time would be enough? Fulvia has the power to correct such brief interruptions in life.

Here's the plan.
Step 1: Meditate RIGHT NOW on nature magic using the dragon staff
Step 2: heart stop on the Shah
Step 3: within 3 minutes, enter his room with Fulvia, restart his heart
Step 4: say we sensed him dying with NATURE MAGIC, through HAPPENSTANCE

There are so many ways that this could go wrong, but it could also go so right.
And god damnit I want to meditate on nature magic so much

The cloak is 'The Clever Choice' so weaseling your way out of obligations and twisting the spirit of demands seems par for the course. It could even have been a hint by the stooges way back when... that's probably giving them too much credit though.

Yeah, back up plans are good things indeed. Prepare the carriage and get our companions up.

Looks like we're going with the clever choice.

I'll give you a few minutes to discuss a plan. Things to ask yourselves: how will you explain away that you know the Shah is dying? How will you 'kill' the Shah in the first place? How will you justify bringing Fulvia in with you? Anything else you think might be relevant. Should you prepare a contingency plan by emptying your cloak and preparing the carriage?

Incorporeality potion last for thirty minutes, right? How long after the heart stops can Fulvia revive someone?
>>
>>35847028
...should we be involving Mortia in this? She's got lots of potions and poison shit. We could either sneak or incorporeal-potion into his quarters to deliver the brew. Then we could try to find a way to magic Robutt into the room.
>>
>>35847028
>how will you explain away that you know the Shah is dying?
Haha! Nature magic!

What we can actually do is reveal the scrying artifact. We can tell our companions the Varistha gave it to us and lie to the monks, saying it's a Rhynian thing.

IRL brain damage can happen (in a worst case scenario) after 3 minutes without oxygen. As long as we put his heart into a state of asystole, a defibrillator has a chance of working without any lasting side effects before 3 minutes, and for some time afterwards.
>>

Better idea. Let's get some shit from the randy old lady. I bet she's got loads more knowledge with the local plants and a few midnight specials already brewed up. If you really want to keep this under wraps, we've still got that Apothecary book. Might be worth shot to give it to Mortia.

>>
>>35847052
Incorporeality does last for 30 minutes. Fulvia can revive someone up to 10 minutes after their heart stops.

>>35847057
Mortia or Ghadi would be the ones you wished to consult if the poison route was what you wanted.

>>35847061
Basically, I picked it after y'all picked the cloak since the cloak is basically sneaky-sneak: the artifact.

>>35847076
I have hope.
>>
>>35847028
We can explain knowing that the Shah is dying by having our staff prepared, saying we were experimenting with it when we saw someones life blink out, so we just brought Fulvia with us there because we're FACTUALLY familiar with dying this way and have been brought back before.

As for killing him we wait until the incorp potion is in its later eighth of time remaining and then freeze his heart, then unfreeze it, fly back to our room dress up and then seek the Shahs room.

Yes to preparing the carriage and emptying the cloak.
>>
>>35847028
First we need a 15 minute timer of some sort (maybe manipulate on an hourglass?) and we need to get Fulvia on board. Second we take preliminary preparations so we can slip into our clothes etc easily after becoming corporeal. Third we take he potion after making sure everything is set up and Fulvia is on standby, we then wait until we have something like 3 minutes left of the potion. Then we go do the heart stop trick on Kadir. Let's pray Nature vatis don't notice us. Once Kadir's heart is stopped we zip back to the room and wait to become corporeal. Then we put on our clothes/brooch and grab our staff and rush to Kadir's quarters, telling Fulvia to accompany us via brooch. That's what I can think up anyway.
>>

>>
>>35847121

>>
>>35847028
Why don't we see if the broaches we got from Ricky can work with our system, and if so give one to the Shah? We can say that we heard the Pirates talking about their "client" and that he's in danger from assassination and we want to protect him.

Then, we can poison him, say we heard him cry out over the broach, and run to the rescue. Also, we can frame the chica next in line.
>>
>>35847135
Three hours, twenty-three minutes, forty-six seconds.
>>
>>35847028
If Fulvia is going to revive him, that assumes his heart stopped. Poison won't work (effect last too long). Might use something the weakens it without stopping it. We would need some way to stop his heart.. an electric shock? a strong thump on the chest? excessive fear?

>Should you prepare a contingency plan by emptying your cloak and preparing the carriage?
Definitely, on both counts.
>>
>>35847107
>>35847099
Change 15 to 30 then. If it were possible to use manipulate to simply stop his heart from beating that'd be great. Or literally drown him in wine with water magic. We'll need to stay solid if we want to use poison I think.
>>
>>35847158
Just freeze his heart.
>>
>>35847158
I think we're underestimating how much shit we got in the cloak. Like there's not enough room in our room for it IIRC.
>>
>>35847158
>spooking him to death
Oh god yes please, doesn't our cloak make us look spooky as hell? Dress up in centurion armor with the cloak, smear ourself in blood and spook him to death. Then fix him.
>>
>>35847184
We'll be stuffing our carriage.

>>35847196
That means we'll have to physically get around the guards guarding his room. Nah.
>>
>>35847196
...can we store Fulvia in the cloak without it messing up her generator? Because if so we could have a literal pocket healer for this.
>>

>>

>>
>>35847212
That will take a while and probably draw attention to ourselves which we don't want to do. Lets just take the more valuable stuff out of it and keep it in the room that way we can say we were meditating on the various magical crap we have along with the staff.
>>
>>35847270

>>

>>
>>35847270

>>
So it seems like
>>35847107
Is a pretty good summation of the general plan. I'll start writing for this, assuming no outpouring of dissent.

>>35847270
>>35847223
You could stick 'er in the cloak without removing her core. Keep in mind, you'll need to come back to the room to retrieve your cloak. It doesn't stick to you when you're incorporeal.
>>
Possiblity: Have Mortia whip us up a contact poison that causes the heart to stop. Put on full armor and go to Shah's room, with Fulvia coming as an escort. Hand over ring while telling him his father is dead. When he has a heart attack, use fire magic to burn off any residual poison from ring while Fulvia resuscitates him. Play it off that the shock of hearing that his father died cause his ticker to fail.
>>
WAIT GUYS!

Remember those poison glands we got? I just remembered that Chrys told us they paralyzed the victim starting with the limbs and eventually stopped the heart.
>>
>>35847298
We can play it up too! Say we found on his father as he lay dying and that he entrusted it along with his dying words to one and only heir, and that its imperative we speak to the new Shah alone. Then, when we've got him cloistered, BOOM! Cardiac arrest!
>>

So, are y'all using the poison/venom glands (getting Mortia to concentrate the poison contained within?) or going with the ole' heart-freezing route?
>>
>>35847445
It's not really needed though. We can just freeze his heart down to a stop to "kill him" then unfreeze it. If it doesn't start up we'll be on our way with Fulvia. Poison would just complicate things.

Can we put it up to a vote whether or not we'll be going incorporeal or just trying to talk our way in with the old Shah's "Last Dying words to his beloved son and heir?" I don't think there's serious support for poison route.
>>
>>35847470
Freezing the heart is gonna cause damage to the heart, and I doubt mik knows enough about the heart to heal it

Guys if the Shah is conscious he will know we are freezing his fucking heart. We'll be in the room with him and he'll assume it is us. Then once we revive him he'll try and have us killed. Do it in ghost form or don't do the heart freeze.

No real downside to heart freezing I can see. We'll just have to make sure we don't let the cold from the ice lower his body temp too low.

The problem is getting the poison to him when we're nowhere near him. Nobody can trace it back to us if we kill him ethereally, and if we're the last one in the room before he bucks it its eyes on us. It's very poorly thought out. Getting the poison to him and IN him while incorporeal would involve manipulation out the ass, when there's tons of vatis around.

I actually didn't intend to blame soma in that post. There were multiple Talk + Magic options and those were where the stupidity lay. How 2 kill pirates: Potion + Magic.
How 2 kill Shah, clever version: Potion + Magic.

There is a reason the price was so high and the quantity we could buy so low. This isn't clever. Its like saying shooting someone from a long distance is clever because they would never see it coming. Not saying it is ineffective or that I could come up with a better way to do this stuff.

Then you can simply have her restart his heart, as she's done for you in the past. Done and done.

You reach out for the woman herself via the brooches. {Fulvia, I've a secret to tell you.}

Her response is curious. {Does it relate to the dragon?}

You snap open your eyes, glancing towards the still-sleeping form of your adoptive child. How long is this thing going to sleep? It's been ten hours now, almost. {More important than the dragon.}

You hear Fulvia scoff, a vocalization you find intensely odd to hear telepathically. {Nonsense. What could be more important than a dragon?}

You sigh, preparing yourself mentally to confess your secret. {Allow me to preface this by saying; you may never tell anyone of what I am about to say. That is a direct order. Now then, I've been contracted by a strange entity which I believe to originate in the void to kill Shah Kadir. It came to me for the first time in a dream I had in the mines beneath Longia. It since arrived in my dreams only a few hours ago to tell me I had seven hours remaining. I've spent around four of those seven hours in meditation trying to decide how I shall face this challenge.}

You pause to collect your thoughts. {To be brief, I've decided to screw the spirit over. In more detail, I intend to only fulfill the letter of its demand rather than the spirit. I recall that you're able to revive the dead, correct?}

Fulvia's response is as prompt as always and all sense of levity has left her tone. She is strictly professional. {Within a ten minute time frame after cardiac arrest I may restart the heart. However, I cannot guarantee that this will not leave permanent damage on the affected individual.}
(1/3)
>>
You nod, a useless gesture, before continuing. {Great, great. That will work for my purposes. What I propose is thus. I will imbibe a potion which will make me incorporeal for a set period. I'll wait until this period is about to expire, then rush in and stop the Shah's heart. Then I will return to my room and let the rest of the time on my potion run out. Once I'm corporeal again I will dress myself quickly and contact you via the brooches. Together, we will rush to the Shahzada's room and claim we detected his life signs snuffed out, at which point you will restart his heart.}

Fulvia takes some time before her response. {You will explain your sudden skill in Nature magic as the influence of the staff, I presume?} You respond in the affirmative. {Then I believe this plan has a fair chance at success. You will need to be careful to avoid prying eyes, but I do not believe that will be too difficult. I will leave preparations to you, but feel free to contact me if you desire advice.} A pause. {This will, of course, stay between you and I.} You think you might detect a little pride in that last line, but don't bring it up.

Instead, you sever the connection and push yourself to your feet. You withdraw your Dragon Staff and your vial of Incorporeality potion, placing the latter upon your desk and the former upon your bed. However, something seems to have roused your adoptive child, because it throws back the blanket covering it with surprising fervor. You note that the milky white film over its eyes slide back, revealing crimson red irises surrounded by black sclera. As it blinks, the film slides over its eyes first and then its eyelids proper after them. Seems it's got two sets of eyelids.

It focuses on the Dragon Staff, stalking its way towards the length of metal and wood. Specifically the turquoise teardrop sheltered within the wings of the dragon. You pick up traces of curiosity, mixed with disgust and fear. You can't help but wonder why on Earth such a simple artifact would cause it worry.

I don't see how they are mutually exclusive. When we turn back to corporeality we'll be in our room and can just take the staff out of our cloak then..
>>
Its way to late but how do ya'll think this would have worked out. Use metal magic to form a groove in the interior of the ring, fill it with plant poison, cover it with a thin layer of metal. Give ring to Shah, wait until he had passed back out, shift the layer above the poison away. Let the poison stop his heart then rush to revive him. Use that same Nature staff excuse for how we knew he was in trouble.
>>
>>35848159
That could be really cool, I wonder if stuffing a part of our soul into something and animating it would let us have an instinctive connection to it, maybe even a direct link to its consciousness with which we could command it with thoughts.
>>35848607
Okay Soma, there's obviously a dragon soul in the staff, right? I mean, Mik should realize this, he knows different souls have idfferent colorations and are easily distinguishable. Or has he not yet realized that their color is decided by what they are? Enchantments are blue people(or at least samja) are yellow, while fire dragons are red.
I wonder what our party looks like in soul vision.
>>
>>35848591
It really doesn't seem like dragon soul level. Remember no one has seen dragons for several millennia, and they're incredibly potent vatis. The guy we talked to about this staff didn't seem to mind parting with it.
It's probably just made out of some dragon bits.
Looks to me like dragon bone.

>>
>>35848632
I don't think we're good enough with metal to do that anyway, and seems needlessly complicated.
I still don't understand why we didn't just use manipulate to bring the cloak or poison with us while incorporeal if people really wanted to use the potion.
Also, I would have suggested sitting down and talking with him once we revive him. Tell him we're Mik, and even we say he should take the throne and strive to make his father proud.

Humans are probably blue, the Rhynian stuff probably had bits of Rhynian people's souls in them, and most of them were human.
SK's soul is barely visible.
Elves are probably green because Samjani are dragon-elves and red+green = yellow. Souls totally work this way.
Fulvia's core is probably blue.
Mortia's soul is probably a bit jacked up.
Darzi is probably yellow.
Ricky's soul is the rainbow

You take a few hesitant steps forward, interposing yourself between the dragon and the staff. You detect a flash of anger, and think it might have said something unintelligible. You can't be sure. It might have just been a growl. Regardless, you crouch down in front of it and with hands wreathed in flames begin to pet its elongated neck, the fine white scales soft to the touch.

It settles, but still seems confused and angry. You focus on generally positive emotions, especially safety. This seems to further calm your adoptive child, but not completely. Eventually you reach back and grab the dragon staff, holding it out in front of you carefully. Your dragon presses its nose against the wooden haft and sniffs, before rearing back. You detect a spike in disgust and anger, this staff apparently seems anathema to it. Your dragon spreads its jaws wide and unleash an intimidating blast of fire, it's only due to your skill as a Vatis that you manage to avoid getting singed or your room burning down.

As the smoke and fire clears, your staff is revealed to be unharmed. Your dragon growls, but seems satisfied with... well, with whatever that was. You set the staff down behind you, scratching your dragon's neck for a while longer until it settles back in. Eventually it gently plucks up the blanket you've made for it between its teeth and carries it off to the corner opposite your bed, as far away from the staff as possible. There it fashions for itself a small, tidy nest out of the blanket and curls up. However, it doesn't sleep. Instead it just stares at you and the staff behind you, watchful. You don't detect anger, nor suspicion directed towards you. Just a vague sense of unease and worry.

The reasoning behind "elves are green since dragons are red and samjani are yellow" was that samjani are the combination of dragons and elves, and also known to be yellow. Dragons are known to be red, thus yellow must be the combination of dragon color and elf color. Since it is a combination, the pigment system is out, so it must be light and elves must be green.
>>
>>35848866
I wonder where you're getting anger from, projecting? What I am is boggled. You've boggled me!
>>
Your dragon dealt with, for now, you depart the room. As much as you'd like to ensure its complete comfort, there are pressing matters to attend to. It seems to be late in the afternoon or perhaps early in the evening, the sun just beginning to dip towards the horizon. You'd estimate it about four o'clock, perhaps five. Most of the monks seem to be at leisure though you note many tending the gardens, and a handful cleaning the halls. None of them bother you. In fact, there seems to be an oppressively somber atmosphere pervading the temple.

You make swift progress through the gardens and tunnels to the fortress which sits atop the hill. Climbing out of the chamber in the floor, you find the sitting room abandoned. As it almost always is. Why are people so averse to sitting there? You banish such thoughts from your mind and seal the hatch behind you before making your way towards the doorway.

You find yourself faced with a sprawling military camp, it encompasses the entire courtyard. Picking your way through the jungle of tents, campfires, seats, latrines, and various other infrastructure necessary for a army on the move to make camp you eventually make your way to the stables only to find them empty, or at least empty of animals. They'd been converted into an archery range and a few soldiers currently practice their bowmanship.

You can't help but scowl. Where on Earth did they put your cart and the camels which drew it? You end up approaching a Temple Guard, a man standing watch in a tower on the walls dressed in the same armor as the men who were standing guard when you first arrived at the temple. You get as close as you can manage without scaling the walls and then call up to him. “Excuse me, my friend! May I beg a question of you?”

He glances down, spotting you quickly. As soon as he does he shouts down. “Ask!”

(2/4)
>>
You clear your throat, quite unused to speaking with your voice after so long relying on telepathy. “I was seeking my carriage and the camels which pulled it! Do you happen to know where they were relocated to after the Shah's host arrived?”

He looks skyward, rolling back on the heels of his feet before rolling forward once more. Eventually, he looks down. “Check the inn! It's the only other place in town with stables large enough to fit a carriage!”

You're frustrated, but have the good sense to call out a brief thank you before marching your way through the camp to the main gates. Time is of the essence, but fortunately the gates are open when you find them. You don't need to worry about any further delays as you make your way down to the inn.

You find it surprisingly full, but you suppose the soldiers have had little else to do besides drink and train. It must be nice, not having any pressing, possibly region destabilizing responsibilities. Unfortunately, you do have possibly region destabilizing responsibilities and so cannot take time out of your busy schedule to relax with a drink. Instead you make your way behind the inn to find a surprisingly extensive and well built stable, a young boy of perhaps fourteen sitting on a stool and smoking a pipe.

“Excuse me, do you have a carriage and six camels housed here?” You ask as politely as you can manage. Your tone probably still sounds a little strange.

The boy nods sleepily, pulling the pipe from his lips and exhaling sweet-smelling blue smoke. “Shhhure thing, jus'...” He stands, stretching, apparently having forgotten what it was he was saying. He half stumbles, half walks into the stables and you're left standing outside confused and vaguely annoyed. Could you not have just gotten someone sober? Time is of the essence.

Several minutes later the boy reemerges with carriage in tow, camels hitched. It appears ready to set off at your convenience. With a grin, you nod, flipping the boy a gold coin. “Keep it ready to go, and brush down the camels. I'll be gone for some time, but will need it ready to leave at a moment's notice.”

The boy is too busy marveling at the ENTIRE gold piece for him to question you. Instead, you step onto the carriage and begin emptying the contents of your cloak into the passenger compartment. You start by packing things into the overhead sleeping/luggage areas; however, those fill up quickly. Eventually you're forced to start packing the compartment itself. You do your best to hide the most valuable items, but by the time you're left with naught but gold the compartment is more or less filled.

Well, some parts would need that sure, but I was thinking if we just stack a whole lot of shit on the whole thing that'd basically be a walking fortress. Also, we need SK to make some freaky shit so we can put it in the armor, like fucking Iron-man thrusters or something.

Holy shit, mention of Iron-man gave me th best idea ever.
We need to make it possible for the armor to go almost fully liquid and shift on its own, so we're wearing our cloak without armor on, and when trouble hits we just think for it and it flows out of the cloak and surrounds us, taking its armor form again once it's in place. We'll never have to strip again. Also, maybe let it be wore partially, like it just flows on our legs and arms if we need to hold up something above us like a giant boulder.
Fucking give that shit some manner of sentience and bind it directly to our consciousness. We will have the best armor ever. It'll even be able to hook up to high-tech shit with some metal magic.
>faux living armor that is actually supermetal with a symbiotic relationship to our consciousness

You remove your cloak and lay it out flat on the central table that dominates the passenger cabin. When you whip your cloak off of the table, a neatly stacked pile of three thousand gold coins dominates the vast majority of the table, arranged in a roughly pyramidal shape. You stare at it for a moment. You'd intended to deposit three thousand gold, leaving approximately three thousand four hundred gold with yourself. However, the pyramid shape is something of Ricky's design.

You dismiss it, and instead merely begin drawing the curtains to conceal the vast piles of loot sitting in your carriage. When all the curtains are drawn you get out and close the door behind you, taking a moment to use manipulate to lock the door from the inside, no small task considering you only have limited tactile feedback to work with. Gear unloaded in the carriage, you're finally ready to put your plan into motion.

You make your way through the village, towards the fortress atop the hill. You run through a mental checklist as you make your way through the gates and into the fortress proper. By the time you reach the tunnels, you've concluded that everything is taken care of. All that remains is to imbibe the potion and kill the Shah at the appointed time.

You feel a presence whisper in the back of your mind {Two hours} as you slip into the gardens. The sound makes you jump, but you don't think anyone really noticed. You pick up your pace, making your way quickly back to your rooms. You find your dragon waiting for you, still curled up in its nest. It glances from you to the staff and then back to you as you close the door and lay your cloak out on the floor. When you whip it away, there is an even more massive pile of gold sitting on your floor.
(1/2)
(Well THAT was embarrassing)
>>
You leave it be for a moment, turning your attention to the vial of Incorporeality potion and the Dragon Staff. You pluck up the former, and are about to sit down on your bed to wait out the next time warning when you hear a sudden cacophony of clinking and clanging as the massive pile of gold you left on the floor collapses. Surprised, you whip around to see your dragon has crashed into the pile and is currently sprawled out on a mind of gold, seeming to enjoy the auspices of wealth. As you watch, steam begins to rise off of its body, you can feel the heat from where you stand. You're frankly worried it might start to melt the gold...

You stand, making your way over to the dragon where it lays sprawled out on your gold. You wag a finger at it admonishingly, speaking in a clear cadence. “No! Bad. Papa's gold.” Whilst speaking, you focus on generally negative emotions. Disappointment and annoyance mostly.

Your dragon hisses at you, it's a hostile, reptilian noise. However, it rolls onto its feet and stands up, backing away from the pile. You use some simple Metal magic to collect it into a somewhat neater, pile after your dragon basically knocked it all over the place. However, you partition off fifteen gold pieces and pass them across to your dragon. “These are yours. Your gold.” You're unsure how exactly to get across the idea of accumulating wealth, but then it clicks. You simply focus on the concept of addition, of having more. “Hoard.”

Your dragon seems to understand, because it picks up each gold piece in its mouth and carries it back to its little make-shift nest, setting them at the bottom on the surface of its blanket. It arrays them neatly, in organized rows with roughly equal distribution. Something you wouldn't think a newborn capable of. Once collected, it lays down comfortably on top of the gold and curls itself into a tight ball, eyes once more focused on you.

With a sigh of relief you retreat to your bed and sit down. You're parenting, you're plotting an assassination, you're plotting a revival, you're plotting an escape. It can be exhausting, trying to keep up with so much at once. Fortunately, all that stands between you and your task is time, and time seems to pass quickly. Perhaps because you're obsessively counting down each second until you need to take a dose of the potion and see to the Shah's death.

(1/2)
>>
At the twenty seven minute mark, or what you believe to be the twenty seven minute mark, you press the potion to your lips and take a deep breath. You feel your mouth filled with that strange, weightless, cloudy substance. You swallow it with some difficulty, like trying to swallow air. You're prepared this time as your fingers begin to fade into corporeality, and catch the potion vial before it hits the ground using manipulate. As your clothes fall away and you fade fully into incorporeality, your dragon stands up and begins chirping in that strange way it tends to, like a bird but just not quite. It seems panicked, eyes searching the room. You send generally positive thoughts its way and attempt to speak, but find yourself unable. Still, it seems enough to do the job, because it lays back down in its nest. It still doesn't seem at peace, its head perked up and searching the room. At least it's no longer making so much noise.

You wait until about the ten minute mark, by your estimate, and then slip out the door. You stick to the hallways for the most part, as at this hour most of the monks are gathered together for dinner either in the atrium or in the gardens. There's little risk of getting caught, especially considering the way you tend to simply blend in. You're not truly invisible, nothing of the sort, but it's hard to spot a shadow creeping along the ceiling.

Despite this, you are caught on a number of occasions, or at least almost caught. You manage to throw up illusions to conceal your presence each time, so ought not need to worry about being exposed, or any reports of a shadowy figure flitting across the wall towards the Shah's rooms.

As you pass into the Monk's quarters you fade into the wall, slipping towards the room you know to house the Shah. You pass through a plethora of empty rooms, each one of them significantly larger and better decorated than your own. Seems the monks themselves aren't all that big on asceticism. Granted, none of them seem overly ostentatious, but they leave comfortably to say the least.

Eventually you come to a darkened room with a single figure shoveling food languidly into his mouth. He seems to eat without tasting, merely obeying his biological imperative to survive. The Shah Kadir, successor to his father's throne. You drift down slowly, swirling through the darkness that fills the room. An imperceptible shade. You slide up just behind the Shah, glancing over his shoulder to see what it is he's eating. Some sort of stew, it seems. Incredible that you're right behind him and he doesn't even seem to notice.

It is quite beautiful isn't it, will-bound biological transformations.

You've been keeping your count, and by your estimate you've got about seven minutes left until the appointed time. You wait, simply watching the Shah. After he seems to have eaten his fill he slumps back in his chair, setting the bowl on his desk. He reaches down to retrieve a bottle of wine, a fine vintage you note, and press it to his lips. He throws his head back, drinking deeply, and then lets his arm slump to his side. Wine spills out, staining his silken clothing. He seems entirely unlike the cheery, arrogant, prideful, wasteful, asshole you remember. No less incompetent, unfortunately. Perhaps rule will temper him? You have trouble believing that, but it's a possibility.

At the appointed time you feel a force seize you, and it's all you can do to guide it towards your intended goal. You reach your hand through his back, the sensation incredibly disturbing, and wrap your ethereal fingers as best you can around the steadily beating muscle that is his heart. You begin to channel magic, just the lightest of touches, and in moments he's been sent into cardiac arrest. Kadir clutches at his chest desperately, coughing up the wine he was drinking. However, you do your job well. He struggles for what seems like an eternity yet in the end slumps to the floor, absent of any pulse.

You melt the ice that has gripped his heart and heal the damage done, yet still it refuses to beat. As you're preparing to rush back to your room and contact Fulvia, preparing to come rushing to the rescue to save the Shah's life, you find yourself interrupted. As you drift forward reality itself seems to tear open. Instead of a largely abandoned hallway, you find yourself in a swirling whirlpool of light, sound, and color.

I predicted this outcome in my head. Ah well.
>>
>>35850176
Well, should've known some spooky shit would go down before we manage to cheat death itself.
Guess we're not allowed to use loopholes. If the Shahzadi actually sold her soul to have the Shah killed, then we need to kill her.
Maybe Fulvia will come anyway, or we'll be allowed to save him after all?
OH FUCK, you're doing it for halloween, aren't you, Soma?
>>
>>35850222

At least we tried.

>>
>>35850176
I guess this is the same whirlpool of sound and color that we saw when talking to Mr. Void Reaper.
>>
>>35850176
Honestly, I don't mind him dying.
>>
>>35850176
and of course a gotcha cliffhanger, feels like a lot of time wasted over a plan that could never have worked. So long as we aren't implicated it'll work out I guess. Whatever time for sleep.
>>
>>35850252
I do, because it means the Shahzadi who sold her soul so she'll be able to destabilize the country by being a shit ruler and abolishing slaver becomes the Shah.
Rather a puppet than a maniac radical.
>>
>>35850258
We are gonna be found passed out in a room with a dead shah, naked. Im worried about our reputation
>>
>>35850276
We'll just have to kill her as well in that case.
And then we'll kill the next one in line Because she also sucks.
>>
>>35850281
Oh fuck, come on they can't fuck us over that bad, we did what they asked.
>>35850300
We aren't killing the third in line, she's not an evil megalomaniac misguided warrior, she'll work as a puppet of the advisors.
>>
>>35850235
>Spoooky Friday?
I-I-I'm afraid...

>>35850252
Personally I don't mind, since he's an asshole, but I don't want to be a slave to some otherworldly monsters.

>>35850258
>So long as we aren't implicated it'll work out I guess.
Spooky Friday will be a horror episode, with pain and misery, misfortune, implications pointing to us, and more misery.

>>35850281
I'm worried about the integrity of our neck.

>>35850300
20 murders later our brother is Shah by marriage. Happy birthday brother!
>>
>no discussion in preparation for spooky Friday
I guess there's nothing we can really do to prepare since we don't know what happened.
>>
Hope our baby has some genetic mutation that makes it not as greedy/more obedient or something.
