You are Darius Duravi. Of course you can kill indiscriminately, what kind of hero would you be if you couldn't?

[Got a question?] http://ask.fm/ObjectiveOrientedQuesting

You turn around. It's...

"Hii~!"

Oh no.

"Oh, great," you say. "It's you. The other crazy one."

"Oh come on~ Is that any way to treat an acquaintance?" Tina pouts.

"I should be grateful you didn't say 'friend'."

"So? How do you plan to get out of this situation, hmm~? Mr. Operator-Operator~?"

You give her the thousand-yard stare as you try to think. You've got no weapons and you were definitely sighted. You're not surrounded yet, and that's good, but the exit is likely to be guarded. No only that, there's nowhere to hide out in the street it opens up to, since it's a great wide open space. The buildings on each side form a straight line, with no indentations adequate for cover.

Of course the construction here would be crowded. It's the business district. She's got you stumped.

"Pfft. Like I know," you finally answer, her trying to-

"Trying to play it cool, huh? You're an open book," Helen says.

"Yeah, well," you turn around, "I don't see you suggesting anything... huh."

Just as you turn around, Helen pulls out an SMG from behind her. It's a PP-39 Buffalo, an old model with admirable ammo capacity. She likely had the helical-mag submachine gun strapped to her back.

"I'm glad you like it," Helen says while your eyes roam over the firearm, as if you were complimenting her.

"I trust you packed an extra mag?"

"How noble~ To ask about extra magazines when you're unarmed yourself, Dari~!" Tina interrupts your dialogue with that singsong manner of talking.

Don't worry about it. If I feel like writing, I'll write no matter how few people there are. If there's none, I'll just write up a new pastebin.

"Speaking of which, you didn't happen to bring an extra gun, did you?"

"Not at all~" Tina grins, and extends you a carbine, which seems to have also been strapped to her back. It looks rather standard, but it has a high-mounted reflex sight for easier hip-fire and special architecture that latches onto your shoulder instead of a traditional stock. The only other armament on Tina is a holstered handgun of similar make.

"As a matter of fact, I certainly did," Helen reminds you of her presence, offering you a gun similar to hers, a PP-40. It has an extended helical mag and a longer barrel, along with a vertical grip on the mag (actually the magazine port that covers part of the mag). With a little lateral thinking, you notice that it's markedly better than the one she's keeping for herself.

Select:
>[] Why not both-

"I swear, if you try to take both, I'll shove them-"

You don't wait for Helen to finish that thought.

>[] Take Tina's carbine.
>[] Take Helen's SMG.

>>[X] Take Helen's SMG.
Just now caught that this was running. How has no one else replied yet?
>>
>>35922086
Apparently not. Writing nonetheless. Looks to be a slow thread today.
>>
You reach for Helen's SMG and take the two mags she hands you shortly afterwards.

"Keep that," you tell Tina, "You might end up needing it."

"Right..." Tina responds without her usual effrontery.

"What are our options? Do we have any potential advantages?"

"Nobody should be coming after us from within the lab, but I think we should take the item transportation system," Helen suggests. "Just in case."

The ITS is a series of chutes designed to transport relatively small items quickly from one end of the lab to another. For a faciility doing a lot of medical work and research, getting things from one end to the other quickly and safely is a priority. The chutes are large enough to accommodate a person of robust constitution, but God forbid you end up in the way of a container. That won't end pretty.

"There's also an-" Evelyn gulps, "an armory by the fifth research lab."

That's right, there is. The weapons stocked there are some of the best available. You're not sure if you'll ever get a chance at guns like that again. Without asking Orlov, that is, but you're not sure if that gun runner won't squeal when the Imps push him up against a wall.

No, you're certain he will.

"Alright, here's what we'll do. Tina, Helen, you both take Evelyn and hide her somewhere. If there's no safe place for her to stay, get her out of here."

You could ask them to take her upstairs, but that necessitates they go through the first floor - the elevators for these basement floors and all the rest are separate.

"What? Come on, that's boring~"

"No, you'll do it. And then you'll meet me at the armory. If I'm not there by the time you are, just take the guns and get moving."

"I don't need any guns except for this one, though~" Tina glances at her pistol.

"Then escort Helen to the armory instead," you tell her. "Helen will know what to do with them."

You look Helen in the eyes, and she nods. She looks completely focused.

"Alright, that's decided. Go."
[1/2]
>>
You head off to find the nearest room where you can dismantle the ITS entryway. As you do, you hear Helen asking her new acquaintance:

"So, who are you, anyway?"

You find the exact sort of room you're looking for shortly - but also a storage room.

>>
You stop by the storage room first. You have plenty of time, after all. After rummaging through the cabinets and drawers, you find three syringes of various size.

One contains a large amount of red, watery fluid and is labeled "phenoproxene".

One contains a small amount of blue, runny fluid and is labeled "WARNING". Certainly an unusual, if telling name.

The last one contains a moderate amount of green, viscous fluid and is labeled "3".

None of them came with instructions, naturally.

You feel confident in injecting these into harmful passerby and achieving good and lethal results. Less so about injecting yourself, which should probably be a last-resort measure.

You put these away in a nondescript location best referred to as "inventory". Or "the pockets of your cargo pants". That works, too.

Once you finish putting the safety-capped instruments away, you approach the only other room of interest. Just as you come up to it, the door opens by itself.

Ashley Hassan, your not-quite-uncle's daughter, stands in front of you. Wearing rather tight clothes.

"Nice outfit."

"Um-"

Your bartender friend is monetarily at a loss for words, so you capitalize on the opportunity to appreciate her choice of dress. It really accentuates her thighs and taut abdomen, but there's something to be said for the way it exposes her neck, which has a droplet of sweat slowly rolling down.

However, there's not much to say about it. In fact, it is totally dedicated to function: a lot of leather and not much else. Seemingly designed to not get in the way of free movement, the gun-metal gray and black accents add a little flair. You finish up your meal by noting the french-braided ponytail.

"Are you quite done?" Ashely's question snaps you out of your reverie.

"...Good taste," you give your assessment.

"Thanks-"

"So? Are you here to save me or something? And seriously, what is up with this get-up? Going dungeon crawling? Played a bit too much corporate cyberpunk?"
[1/2]
>>
Ashley flushes.

"I sort of... am? I didn't expect you'd be-" She nods towards your PP-40 Buffalo.

"Armed."

"Yes. And- Uh. I guess we're going back the way I came."

"Hold on. Weren't you going to ask me where I got this? Or where I was going?"

"You were going the right way, apparently!" Ashley tries to laugh, but it comes out forced.

"Then I've got a question for you. Why are you here, right now?"

"We don't have time to-"

Ashley turns to go back, but you catch her by the shoulder.

"You don't. I do. Make some and answer me."

"How about I tell you along the way?" Ashley offers. "We need to hurry up and get out, Dari."

"There's other people here, and they need to get out, too. We need to get to the armory and put up a fight until the Siberia Squad gets here."

"There's a manhunt going on, Dari, and you're the prey," Ashley blurts out.

"What?"

Ashley stays silent.

"I don't buy it. Why not snipe me? Why bother with all this?"

Ashley sighs.

"So it looks like you were collateral damage."

Wait. That actually makes sense. And you're the object of a lot of unwanted attention, as it just so turns out. But...

"I'm still not running with my tail between my legs," you tell Ashley and give her a stern look.

She looks right back at you, putting her hand on her chin.

"Fine, how about this? There's a control panel for the Cerberus security system."

Is she talking about those little robots you used to break a new exit through the walls?

"We can go there and activate it," Ashley continues.

"But that'll get-" You interject.

"...With a time delay, of course. Then we'll get whoever else is in this complex and get out."

Looks like you've got two ways to go about this.

It might be a risky plan, since there won't be any way to let the Cerberus system differentiate between friend and foe, nor will there be any guarantee of finding Helen and Tina in time, but it's definitely the better option. Your alternative involves getting to the armory first and hoping the control panel won't already be guarded by the Ts by the time you get to it.

"Fine, you win," you admit after a little consideration.

Ashley walks up to an opening in the ceiling and jumps right in, pulling herself up effortlessly.

"Did you train for this?" You ask, walking up to the entrance.

"Would you believe me if I said yes?"

Ashley extends you her hand. You choose to pull up a chair before accepting the assistance.

"No matter how absurd it may be, I must believe what I see with my own eyes."

"Ooh. Who said that?"

"Beats me."

You crawl through the pathways, following Ashley. You don't find anything objectionable about the fact that you must keep a constant and continuous watch on her ass. It's a very fine ass.

However, you find yourself wondering about other things.

"You said you were gonna tell me about everything."

"Well, not everything..."

You scoot up closer and give Ashley a right fine smack.

"Ow!"

The sound rings out quite nicely.

"Everything."

"Okay, what do you want to know?"

"For starters, how you knew I was here."

"It was on TV."

Well damn. That's pretty reasonable.

"Okay, then why did you come here?"

"I already told you, to help you get out of this mess."

"But how did you know I hid in here rather than get away?"

"That's a trade secret!"

You scoot up to Ashley again. She seems to hear you coming closer, because she yells at you to stop.

"Wait, wait! Stop! I really can't tell you, alright?"

No it's not fucking alright. You can't let things like this go. Hell, this is planting a lot of red flags right about now. But you should let it go for the moment.

"Okay, then where did you learn to do all that?" Ashley sighs in relief when you don't press the issue. "I know uncle Sam trained you in a bunch of stuff and that you went to acrobatics club, but this?"

"Well... Oh look! We're here." Your friend changes the subject. "Give me a second."

With a little effort, Ashley unscrews a few bolts with a pocket screwdriver pulled seemingly out of nowhere. Then she lifts up the sheet of metal and drops down with an a playful "Alley-oop!"

You drop down right after her.

While Ashley wordlessly fiddles with a moderately-sized computer set into a nearby wall, you scavenge for useful items. You come up with a few more syringes, bring your total up to: 3 Red, 2 Blue, 3 Green.

"Okay, Dari. How much time you want to leave us with?"

"Huh. How long will it take us to get to the armory?"

"About 4-5 minutes."

Which means the minimum you'll need is 10.

"Twenty. Twenty is just right."

"Okay," Ashley nods, "done! Let's move!"

"What's got you in such a good mood?"

"Oh, you know. Nothing," Ashley says with a grin, which, you suppose, she wasn't intending to show you, but one that you still saw before she turned around.

You repeat the chair-and-hand approach to a fair degree of success.

"So," you break the silence of the crawl, "Anything else I should know about you? Private bank accounts, illicit connections, various and exciting felonies?"

"No, no," Ashley laughs. "Nothing like that."

"Amoral sexual relationships?" You decide to prod at her a bit.

Surprisingly, Ashley stops. Did you cross a line or hit too close to home?

"You know, Dari, I'm not that kind of girl. I didn't say anything before because of how long we've known each, but - you can be a real jerk."

By the end of that sentence, her voice had changed from a calm tone to a hurt one. She turns around to look at you, and though you can barely see just one of her eyes in the heart of this darkness, you're sure it's glistening.

You're also certain there was something else she wanted to say, but stopped short. You're not sure what, but you're confident that asking now would only make things worse.

Eventually, you two make it to a spot that turns out to be just above a room next to an out-of-the-way hallway.

Ashley drops down without saying anything, but not silently. You follow suit.

It's a short walk to the place where the armory is, and you even lead the way. The one time you try to turn around, Ashley catches you by the shoulder and tells you to keep walking.

You round another corner and see Helen along with Tina. The two of them are holding rifles, Helen holding hers close and ready to fire at any moment, Tina weighing hers and trying to get a feel for it. They see you soon after you sight them.

"Heyy~ What took you so long? Oh, hey..."

"That was too slow even for you... Dari..."

"Huh?" What's going...

You turn around. "...on."

Damn.
[1/2]
>>
Ashley's face is a complete mess. Well, that's actually not true. It's still a very attractive face, but more cute than anything right now. Her eyes are bloodshot, though, and now that everybody's looking at her, she's getting redder by the second.

"Wh-what? I'm fine."

"You'd be fine if we could tell you're fine," you say. Then, after a bit of hesitation, "...I'm sorry. I didn't mean-"

"Look, I'm okay! I'm okay. It's alright."

Now it's your turn to sigh.

"Alright, fine. Going to need a gun?"

"I'm good." Ashley wipes her eyes a bit. "I'll manage. Unless you can find something small..."

Helen and Tina pass you by while you head for the armory's entrance.

Inside is a real arsenal of rifles. You look around for a while, but ultimately it comes down to just two rifles. And two handguns for Ashley.

SELECT RIFLE:
>[] CAR 98,000 - Semi-Auto only, but has the ability to fire the syringes you picked up earlier. Highly accurate and will satisfy that itch of curiosity.
>[] GG - A full-sized battle rifle, armed with armor-piercing rounds. Firing this on anything but S/A would be wasteful, but you can go F/A if you so wish. Larger mag size, too.

SELECT PISTOL:
>[] KRYS - Small, short barrel. Moderately-powered yet AP ammo, stealthy and accurate. Has the potential to be hugely useful.
>[] AMBASSA DORA - Large pistol with a long, weighted barrel. Powerful ammo, but Ashley won't be able to carry a lot. Accurate handgun with the power of a shotgun.

About to start cooking, so here's a mini-update.

You take out the syringe-firing S/A and the Krys. Tossing the latter to Ashley, who catches it neatly, you notice that she's looking a whole lot better. Helen and Tina aren't giving you nay dirty looks, so you're fine on that front, too.

"Dari, we've got 12 minutes on the clock," Ashley says.

"Huh? What does that mean?" Helen asks.

That means you need to decide on a course of action.

While Ashley's giving those two a crash course in your current operational situation, you examine your options.

You were planning on fighting, so Evelyn's hidden away. You're not sure how effective trying to escape through the chutes will be if there's 5 of you, but you're willing to try.

You could also go through with the plan to clear out this complex. With all this additional manpower, you could definitely do it if you apply yourself. The Ts are guaranteed to already be in the building, and there's no telling how many of them there will be.

Once you pick a plan, you'll have to follow through with it.

What will it be?
>[] The original plan.
>[] Ashley's plan.
>[] A custom plan.

Naturally, custom plans tend to yield better loot.
>>

>>[] A custom plan.
Get Evelyn and fight our way to the secret back exit we broke out of last time we were here when we escaped with Darida and Duva.

We need to get our girls and make a hasty exit, the security system will take care of the rest as long as we're not inside when it activates.

>>
>>35931834
Yeah, I was going to suggest maybe the way we came in, through the weak wall section, but I can't quite remember if thats the same place we exited before, I've no real mental map of where we are and where everything is.

But we need to act fast and hard.
>>
>>35931845
It is.
>>
Alright, I'm back and well-fed. Let's do this!
>>
Suddenly, it occurs to you that you could always go back the way you came in.

After all, if the Ts have all taken cover in this building, there won't be any left outside. It's so simple, yet so brilliant.

No, it's brilliant because it's so simple.

"Helen, where did you guys hide Evelyn?"

"Over in the next wing... why?" Helen looks at you with a furrowed brow.

"We need to get her. ASAP."

"Huh? But we just hid her~" Tina complains.

"Whatever, just trust me. We're going back out."

"Back out... you mean through the wall you came from?" Ashley asks.

"That's right. The gunfight outside should have stopped by now. We can use that exit! How long will it take us to get to Evelyn?"

"About... 6 or 7 minutes, I guess~?"

"Then let's get going."

...

You're here. You've got Evelyn out of her hiding place and into your custody. You now also have a bit of a problem. The Ts are prowling through the complex, seemingly trying to get into position to fight off the Siberia Squad coming in through the front doors. It's already time for them to have reached the lab and begun their operation. If they haven't yet, they'll start any second now.

The problem with the Siberia Squad is that they do what they're told, exactly as they're told. They can't be put on trial because of circumstantial mistakes, such as shooting civilians when ordered to take out everybody inside a certain complex.

Seeing the problem now?

Then there's the fact that the Ts are occupying defensive positions and setting up for an assault. Your party of adventurers isn't quite as well equipped, and are certainly undermatched in a direct confrontation.

There wouldn't be a problem with this if you could take your time. But you can't. So you'll have to tackle this issue head-on - there's no time to do it any other way.

Not when you're between the hammer and the anvil.

In short, you'll have to rush through the Ts' defensive perimeter before the CTs get here, and you'll have to do it without casualties.

Nice.

"Alright, here's the plan. We more or less know the layout of this lab, right?"

Tina, Ashley and especially Evelyn nod their heads.

"We'll move through the hallways quickly and we'll open fire on everyone we see. Helen, you're coming with me to assist. Everyone else, you'll be supporting us. Ashley, you have marksman training, right?"

"Mm."

"You'll snipe as necessary. Tina, you watch Ashley's back and give her some cover fire so she can place her shots. Got it?"

The two of them nod.

"Great. Let's-"

"Um..." Evelyn reminds everyone of her presence.

"You just don't stick your head out, alright? You're a Non-Participating Combatant - remember that."

"...Okay," Evelyn says, looking both relieved and disappointed.

"Let's move out!"

...

You don't get much further than the next hallway down. This must be the primary perimeter. If you can breach this line in one go, you'll be able to run 'n' gun all the way to the exit without a second thought.

You're not optimally positioned yet, though. You and Helen are both behind the same corner and you won't be able to fire both suddenly and comfortably like this. There's two Ts moving table and unpacking small barricades and related items.

"Helen, I'm moving up!" You say, glancing at the Ts. "Cover me."

"Go."

You dash out from behind the corner to the opposite wall. Your rifle bounces in your hands as you make each step your fastest. This wall has no indentations and you'll be spotted any minute if you dawdle.

You glance out from behind your corner and one of the soldiers spots you.

"Now!" You yell and open fire. Your very first few bursts pierce the warier soldier's torso and come flying out the other side, dragging his entrails behind them. Droplets of blood splash onto the T behind the first('s fresh corpse). He manages to level his rifle before Helen plants a triplex in his neck.

He manages to pull the trigger as his body falls, and a unlike the first two shots, the third runs right by your temple.

You put your hand up to your head to see if it grazed you, but luckily, the skin isn't even hot. You're just imagining things.

You look at Helen, who gives you an apologetic look.

There isn't any time to waste. If you can breeze through this next encounter and not waste any time, you'll have enough initiative to run right through the rest of the way.

And escape.

You gradually move through the hallways, segment by segment, always making sure to scout ahead for unsuspecting soldiers you wouldn't want to stumble upon. After all, it could get messy if too many Ts hear the gunfire.

You briefly wonder: how many Ts heard the firefight you had just now?

Well, it's not like it matters.

You can't be looking back now.

Your scout-and-advance method allows you to proceed at a pace that's a bit slower than what you could be moving at, but it's worth the guarantee of not being ambushed.

Finally, you come upon another perimeter. This time, the fortifications are a bit more substantial. Between two piles of sandbags resting upon the walls are several tables, arranged in a triangle. Or perhaps a wedge?

One's in front, two more are behind it.

All in all, it creates the impression of good defense.

A lesser man would be discouraged. But this is a battle to be fought with one's wits.

The three soldiers manning this roadblock are distracted: one is chatting over a portable comm and occasionally glances your way, the other two are propped up against the walls behind the sandbags, though you can only see their feet. And even then, only if you stand up.

>[] Look for a way around this outpost. You'll have to waste time, though.
>[] Advance quietly towards the tables to secure a better firing position. [DC: 10]

I have embraced the slow QM lifestyle. I am become Hexenjager, destroyer of pacing. Tremble in my wake, fools, for none shall survive the fated Day of 72 Hours Straight.

You tell everyone to hush down and retreat for the moment. This engagement is too daunting to attempt it with as few tools as what you have now.

You're not a Bestiarius, after all.

Your whole troupe backtracks a bit and goes down another hallway. There's two Ts up front, but you manage to bide your time and wait for them to split.

Then, Ashley takes them both out, one by one.

But something's wrong. You hear noises. You hear things you really wish you weren't hearing right now.

You hear gunfire.

The Siberia Squad is moving up.

"Plan B! No tactics anymore, just make a break for it! After me!" You yell.

Fortunately, the route you're going down now doesn't have a roadblock - just a few Ts who weren't expecting you. They must not have heard the Siberian firestorm raging a ways off.

You dispatch them easily and hastily, and continue down the hallways before the other Ts come to ruin your day further.

Every step of yours is a leap.

You suddenly realize that you couldn't hear the Squad from where you executed the last batch of Ts. Maybe they got hung up?

Doesn't matter right now.

The hallway splits here.

One path is a bit longer, but also has indentations you can use for cover.

The other path is shorter, but likely to be better staffed.

You neither have time to snipe everyone nor do you doubt your ability to run in and gun down the Ts. You're pressed for time, but you can't let any casualties happen.

Well the current record is 45 hours straight questing continuous with no breaks outside of getting food and answering the call of nature, so good luck with that, problem lies in the fact the players need to sleep at some point/

Better safe than sorry. Way better to be safe than sorry, here.

You rush to the left, everybody follows you. You can't quite hear the CTs coming up, which is good. However, everybody here is already prepared for a firefight, so you must press the advantage and use your initiative.

"Ashley! Move up!"

"Huh?" Ashley looks at you, clearly surprised by this role.

"Take out as many as you can, I'll cover you. Helen, cover me!"

Helen nods and you run up to the nearest fuller in the wall, look across the gap at Ashley and nod. She nods back and you both pop out of hiding.

BLAM! BLAM!

BA-BA-BANG!

Shots start flying, screaming death as they lock onto the Ts' heads with your eyes and surge forth to carry out your will.

The death sentence.

Ashley's doing her job remarkably well, and you can't help but notice the droplet of sweat rolling down face, just behind her cheekbone. It curves around the edge of her pretty little jaw and traces it all the way to her chin. Her lips are slightly apart as she makes each shot, and her expression is a serious one, without a tinge of rage. If there was even a bit of hate in her right now, there's no way the bridge of her straight nose wouldn't be scrunched up.

She's got the expression of a killer. A trained murderer, who slays as they must.

You can't help but smile. Maybe you've got more in common than you thought.

You can't help but wonder how you're still alive. Ducking back behind cover simultaneously with Ashley to coordinate your attacks, which resemble lunges.

None of the Ts have any helmets, and that's what's saving your life.

Another T goes down with a shot from Helen.

Geez, there's a lot of these guys here. Are they getting reinforcements? Are you clearing out the whole perimeter in one spot?

That would be pretty shitty. Not only would you be wasting time, but the Siberia Squad wouldn't have to, either.

BLAM!

With a final shot from Ashley, the last T that you can see goes down.

"Get down!" You bellow.

>>
>>35951209
Whoops, sure did.

You run ahead and slide along the smooth floor of the lab, intending to gun down the lone T hiding behind a corner between this hallway and the one connecting it to a parallel passageway.

As you slide forward, however, there's no such enemy.

"All clear! Let's go!"

The girls pull up to you and you head down the hall, mere meters from the exit.

You hear footsteps from behind.

You don't bother to look back.

the idea being we discourage them and hold them long enough to give us and the girls a window to get away, and we've got the syringes and the gun capable of firing them, so for curiosities sake why not?

It's your responsibility to make sure everyone gets out alive. You've always got the next life if you fatally fuck up in this one.

You turn around on the spot and start loading the syringes into your rifle. You manage to get all of them in, surprisingly.

Sure is nice to live in an age when ammo capacity isn't an issue for special ammo.

Figures start coming into view just as you level your rifle. You switch the firing mode to "UNQ".

The footsteps behind you stop.

"Darius! What are you doing?!" Helen calls out.

"Come on!" Ashley urges.

"Get going!" You snarl in response.

The girls begin to vocalize something, but get moving when they see black figures coming into view.

You hold your rifle fast and let off shots, one by one. A couple of them bounce off, but two syringes find their way to the targets. A red and a green.

Two more CTs put their rifles up and are just about ready to open fire, when the man injected with the red fluid falls to his knees, grabs his neck, and drops to the floor.

The other one does something similar, but instead of grabbing his neck he starts convulsing and twisting on the floor. Then he goes still.

You don't skip a beat and aim for the next one. He seems to have noticed his delay and you meet his gaze head on. At least, you think you do. You can't tell through the helmet he's wearing.

You pull the trigger.

He pulls the trigger.

You exchange shots.

Your syringe splits the air with a whistle in response to the opponent's bullet. His bullet starts the sprint with a bang, but flies just above your ear.

The same one that almost got singed earlier.

Your syringe almost finds its mark, but the CT's reflexes don't let it. The next bullet smashes into the plastic piece of ammunition and knocks it out of the air, both of them tumbling in the ether, like two celestial bodies dancing around each other.

You had almost begun to wonder why he fired on S/A. Now you realize.
[1/2]
>>
It's so that he doesn't miss with three bullets at once, when he could be using them to do things like this.

Things like deflecting projectiles.

That's insane.

It's likely not for deflecting bullets, but for shooting grenades and thrown items.

He must've noticed that you were firing needles and made the conscious decision to use S/A instead 3/B. Or even 2/B.

That's the sort of thing you can expect from the Siberia Squad, the foremost counter-terrorist unit in the Empire.

But. You knew that. You knew who you were going up against. Which is why you also knew...

That he wasn't looking at the second needle.

It hits him out of nowhere, sailing right past the two tumbling projectiles and into his neck.

A green fluid. The third bullet he fired finds itself in the ceiling.

The other CT looks up from his compatriot's body, then down to the body. Then back at you.

He gets a syringe in the leg for his trouble.

You look at the body he was examining.

...It's moving. There's no mistaking it, it's flinching and jerking. He's slowly coming to. You contemplate firing again, but you only have just the one left.

You wait for the next CT to approach, ignoring the shambling body dragging itself along the floor, pulling itself towards you.

It's two CTs next. Luckily, you were waiting for them. You forcefully inject one of them with a blue fluid the instant he comes into view and turn tail to run.

You're out of ammo, after all.

You hear movement behind you, and the last thing to reach your ears before you're out the way you entered...

Is a short scream.

Music to your ears.
[2/3]
>>
You can hardly believe you made it out. Sunlight hits your eyes harshly and you're blinded for a second.

But it's the good kind of blindness, like the kind of stomach pain you only get from overeating. It means you're outside, like a stomachache that tells you you're full.

You catch yourself for a second.

Are you really safe?

You can see the girls outside, they're across the street, they're waving at you. They were looking back at the exit, and their eyes start gleaming when they recognize you. They raise their hands, they start waving them.

Something compels you to look away.

It's paranoia. Any normal person would be glad to be out of that place. But you've just realized what Ashley told you - you're being hunted.

You turn to look at the roof of a building positioned perfectly, with the ideal vantage point, to cover this street.

You just barely see the silhouette of a crouched figure up against the sun.

Then a piercing pain rips through your shoulder. The same pain, as if one continuous sensation, tears through your lungs. Like a snake that ran right through your shoulder, exited, then re-entered through your chest.

Its two fangs must be seated firmly in the road, behind you.

With the last ounces of your strength, you just barely see the figure that shot you toppled. As if a chess piece, it stiffly falls aside.

Something compels you to keep your eyes open.

You wonder if this is fate. It sure is ironic, and God is not without his little jokes.

Those who play with the devil's toys will be brought by degrees to wield his sword.

You recall a pithy saying about glass houses and throwing stones, too.

Something compels you to forget everything.

And then you wake up.
