Karasuba is in front of you, her face relaxed as she sleeps, but there is also someone behind you, holding their body close to yours. Twisting softly, you are greeted with the sight of Kaede, asleep, her face calm and peaceful. You feel good, very good and so good you guess that she probably did some mysticism ho-ha stuff to make you sleep better. You’ve certainly come a long way since the first time you met.

Despite the fact that you are perfectly comfy or perhaps more because you are perfectly awake, you decide that you should get up and make some breakfast for everyone. But first you need to get out of here…

Karasuba is apparently either very deeply asleep or fucking with you, because she clings almost as badly as Chris with nearly as much strength as Tatsuko, meaning that by the time you manage to get out of her grip, you’ve thoroughly woken Kaede, who is apparently a light sleeper.

“John?” she murmurs sleepily as you crawl over her, “is it…”

“No,” you say, leaning down and giving her a brief kiss on the forehead, “Go back to sleep until breakfast is done.”

“Mmm,” she says leaning up and nuzzling your neck briefly before falling back to the pillows, “Ok.”

After that you manage to climb out of the extra-large bed and make it to the kitchen without disturbing anyone else. You quickly open the fridge, finding lots of everything you could possibly need once again and then you start to make one of your world-class breakfasts.

By the time the bacon is crisping and the sausage is sizzling, even Chris is awake, everyone piling around the large table your friend provided in various sleeping clothes as you set platters out and then they get passed around. There is remarkably little talking, food being eaten first.

As you all finish your friend finally reappears, looking…well mostly the same, but you think she looks a little better than yester…when you went to sleep. You aren’t sure, it’s hard to tell with someone who doesn’t exist on the same level you do.

It is with a normal flash that you find yourself in another world once more. This one is slightly different than normal however, as you can nearly feel the magic in the place. Either you’re going to be right at home or you’re going to be completely overwhelmed.

Looking around, you see that you are in a some kind of…well it has a lot of dark stone. Other than that it’s not very clear. You glance down one of the grates and find that it’s a cell. There are only a few more, so you check all of them. The last one contains what you’re looking for.

The headmistress, you really should ask her for her name at some point, is sitting down, smoking. She’s apparently waiting for something, you’re pretty sure that she could get herself out if she wanted to, unless something happened to her that you can’t see.

Looking at the grate, you see that it’s made of metal and set in rock…but you think you could just rip it out. Giving your headmistress a grin, you set yourself above the grate and reach down, gripping the bars with your bare hands.

“You’re really going to try that?” she says, looking up at you.

“No,” you say, “I am going to do it.”

“Mhmm…” she says, watching.

You tighten your grip and you start to pull. At first, you feel nothing but strain; the grate is a little more solid than you thought. Shifting your stance, you then pull harder, resulting in a creak from the bars. That lets you know you can do this. However, it is a close run thing, as you pull harder and harder, the grate begins to deform more and more, finally ripping out of place just as you’re about to let go from exhaustion. You do have to take a couple steps back as you stagger from the sudden lack of resistance. Taking a breath, you man up and toss the grate down to the side.

Looking down, you see the headmistress standing, looking up at you.

“There,” you say, “Free.”

“I’m still down here,” she says, “Unless you have a better idea I’m going to have to jump.”

You can see a smile play along the edge of her lip, but she is right, you’re going to either need to think of something quick or let her do it herself.

Quickly you pull out…actually you don’t have anything to pull out to enchant with so you do it with the tip of your sword. It’s a little messy, but with the aid of the ambient magic in the area, it takes despite the speed you do it at. A full suite of enchantments just like you did for Aurora.

Hopping on, you find that you can control the thing with just a thought, proving that you can do it with the Witchball team once you get a chance. Grinning to yourself, you hover over the hole, putting all your spare power, not a lot but enough, into defenses.

“Coming down,” you say, even as the headmistress moves out from underneath you.

With just a thought you smash through the surrounding stonework, coming to rest right above the ground.

You smile at the headmistress, even as she looks mildly impressed.

“Ride for one?” you say.

“I’m amazed that thing can even fly with how ugly it is,” she says.

“I was under some slight time constraints,” you say, “So I didn’t have time to polish it up for you.”

“Is wrong,” says Kaname, feeling the same thing you feel, “So very wrong.”

You can both feel it. There’s an enchantment of some kind on or near Irisviel. A massive one, powerful beyond nearly anything you could imagine.

It is also dirty, the very air roiling around you. You can feel what it was supposed to be…something grand, amazing. But it’s been perverted, completely wronged in every sense.

“What…what do we do?” asks Kaname as the two of you step forward, the area around you clear enough so that you can walk about the outside of the circle, sensing what you can.

“I…I don’t know,” you say, “Do you think we could fix it?”

“Fix it?!” says Kaname, looking at you and then down at Irisviel, who hasn’t responded to you at all. “I mean I suppose we could try but that would be…”

Very hard, even with both of you. You now know why your friend sent Kaname with you.

“Or we could break it,” she says, “But that might be equally as bad, I don’t know what it would do to her or if it would let out the…darkness.”

You could probably break it so it wouldn’t hurt…but that’d be hard as well.

“I wish there was something else we could do…” says Kaname slowly.

Kaname glances at you, her face tight. “You usually break my patience, but we won’t talk about that. This is going to be hard, so you follow my lead on this ok?”

“Right,” you say, realizing that hyper-complex rituals are more Kaname’s thing than yours. Instinct will take you far but memory will take you farther.

Kaname pulls out what looks like a proper enchanting kit from somewhere under her skirt, several different kinds of knives, chalk, some magical catalysts. Handing a couple bit to you, she kneels down to the edge of the circle already there.

“Kaname,” you ask her, “What do you want me to do.”

“Sealing circle,” she says, eyes roaming, “The best you can do. Nothing in or out of any kind, but don’t activate it yet.”

“Right,” you say, stepping several feet away before you even start to lean down.

“Farther,” says Kaname, chalk already in hand and drawing.

You step farther away, now nearly ten feet from the edge of the circle.

“A little more,” says Kaname.

You end up fifteen feet away from the edge of the circle before you can even start the inside of your own circle. You get down, chalk and knife in hand, being as careful as you know how to be. It takes you nearly a half hour to do your circle, complex as it is.

Stepping back just before you activate it, all it needs is a pulse of mana, you see Kaname still working. Her circle is many times more complex than yours and you see her make marks, then race an entire section just to put what looks like exactly the same mark.

“Kaname…” you start.

“No talking,” she says, “Come and stand next to me.”

Picking your way very very carefully through every last line, you find yourself standing next to Kaname as she finishes up her circle.

By this point you aren’t even going to argue.

Taking your shirt off, Kaname begins painting on you with a light dusting of powder.

“Don’t move,” she says, even before you say anything, “Try not to breathe too hard.”

You don’t even nod, knowing that Kaname at this point is possibly one of the more dangerous people to piss off.

Another fifteen minutes see’s your entire upper body painted, sword in hand, also painted, and with the tip pointing down towards Irisviel’s heart.

“Alright John,” says Kaname from outside the circle, “This is how this is going to work. I’m going to finish your circle and then you are going to stab downwards, no hesitation.”

You tilt your head a fraction.

“Right,” she says, kneeling down next to your circle.

“3…2…1…Now!”


For just a second, you feel your circle snap into existence.

For just part of that second, Irisviel is gone. Her body replaced by a dark shadow.

For just part of that second, you feel power flowing through you, the power of Angels and Devils and Spirits and people. You feel all of it, the burning power of goodness and love.

For just part of that second, the tip of your sword hits the shadow where its heart should be.

For just part of that second, you feel the shadow resist.

For just part of that second, you push harder.

For just part of that second, you think you feel the shadow smile.

For just part of a second, you feel your power react.

And then, in the very last part of the second, you feel it die.

Then there’s an explosion.

You fly backwards, body hitting the wall at tremendous speed. The breath is knocked out of you, you’re eyes are blinded, sword nowhere near your hand, your ears ringing.

Slowly, your ears stop ringing, your eyes clear.

You see a blob that is Kaname slowly stirring.

Then your eyes dart towards Irisviel.

At first you see nothing.

Then…a breath, another after that. Her eyes flutter open.

You groan and manage to stand.

Irisviel sits upright, blinking and glancing around.

“John?” she says, eyes wide.

“Hey Iriesviel,” you say, “We came to help.”

“You…you what?” she says, then looking down at her side, to see a simple carpenters cup.

Her eyes go even wider, like they’re about to pop out of their head.

Suddenly a man bursts into the room, a gun in hand, first tracking to Irisviel.
