Welcome back to Civilization: Lizardfolk!

Archive: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive.html?tags=Lizardfolk%2C+Civ
Twitter: https://twitter.com/CrowQM

The shadows begin to retreat as the sun breaks through the thick canopy above the camp of the Mosstooth Tribe. Already abuzz with activity, lizardfolk travel to and fro in a dizzying amount of activity! Harpies flap or glide from one end of the camp to the other, delivering messages or carrying small packages in their clawed feet.

This has become the norm for the Mosstooth, ever since they were exiled from their former clan. Quillock, a charismatic warrior, and de facto leader of the tribe, has brought these people together to live in harmony, and to use their gifts as best they can. Thus far, life in the jungle has been surprisingly pleasant, but with the threat of a nearby Giant tribe to the northeast looming in many tribesmen's minds, how long will it last?

Thus begins the twenty-seventh day of the Mosstooth tribe! What shall they do upon this day?

Tribe Inventory: 7 Crude Axes, 2 Iron Daggers, 2 Bowdrills, 5 lumber, 6 stored food
Leader inventory: 1 Iron Trident, Crude Hide armor

Boons: Swimmers (Move freely through water terrain), Minor Versatillity(Mythic Leader), Reptilian Decent(+Diplomancy with reptile races), Cold Blooded(Can't survive in cold regions, weak to cold attacks), Evil Reputation(Minor diplomacy bonus with evil races; major penalties to others), Nature Attunement(Druid)
Buildings: Crude Palisade, Vine Net, Lizard Lodges, Crude Huts, Tiki Torches

Officially begins at 8:00 PM EST, but feel free to start discussing now.

One lizard, standing by!
>>
>>36232607
Good to see! I'll just wait for a few more to show their tails before we get into the swing of things.
>>
I am going to start it off with what we planned to do last time:

Major Action 1: Herb Research
MA 2: Dig trench in front of palisade (which we can flood or place spikes in, at clan's discretion.

>>36232639

And yea, waiting for more is good.
>>
>>36232673
Supporting this action. Make the moat a big pool of water. Lizardmen are strong swimmers. We can slaughter enemies in the moat.
>>
>>36232717
>>36232699

Sorry, I deleted my post to fix spelling. I posted virtually the same thing in quoted.
>>
>>36232699
Probably going to end up with this for the day. Will wait until 8:20 though. I'll pre-write just in case.
>>
The majority of the tribe spends its day beginning a mote around the land portion of their camp. Unfortunately, it seems that whatever nature spirits out there seem to be against them this day, as the day is riddled with setbacks and issues. Firstly, the spongy moist ground of the jungle resists the digging quite well, especially since the tribe doesn't have the proper tools for the job, only able to use their hands. Then there's the fact that, upon this day of all days, the rainy season begins. Yes, it begins to downpour. Still, forty-something lizards going at it gets some work done.

Moat (5%)

V, on the otherhand, makes a adequate headway with her two chosen herbs. Though the rain bothers her work slightly as well, due to the shoddiness of the workspaces available. She doesn't find any further properties in the herbs thus far, but knows that beyond what she currently knows, both of properties that become apparent upon consumption.

Herbs (70%)

The day ends with the tribe tired and dirty, with only a nice meal of fish to brighten their otherwise gloomy day. The harpies find some sort of shelter under the canopy, while the lizardfolk sleep in their current shelters.

The night is uneventful, as though the heavy rain drastically reduces the effectiveness of the tiki torches, the noise of it in the open area keeps many possible threats away as well.

A new day begins, but with no dawn as the sky is still heavy with rain. What shall the tribe do today?

The rainy season begins! Lizardfolk females are beginning to go into heat! Successful mating rituals preformed during the rainy season have a 90% chance of conception.
>>
>>36233021
Well, really, the only course of action is. . . MAKE THE BEBBEHS! also make a small festival out of it. Because ritualistic banging is the best kind of banging.
>>
>>36233021

Fuck the moat for now. But need other people to pitch in. I think they are used to later time, but will start trickling in after 9 (i know that's still 30 mins away).

How soon until birth? Do we have sufficient housing for children?

Major 1: Ritualistic Festival
Major 2: Mating Rituals

For these synergistic actions, I'll either take the better of the two, or the highest+50%, whichever is higher.
>>
>>36233340
I love how children grow to adulthood in less than five years in civilization games. It really highlights the peculiarity of the genre.
>>
>>36233397
It kind of has to be that way. In all reality its just from birth to adolescence, but they can function at some degree at that point. If I made it any longer, the tribe would not be sustainable. Even a 1.25 year reproductive cycle is rough on this.

The day begins, and it is a joyous one. The entire tribe is out and about, getting ready for the evening rituals. Herbs are harvested, food prepared, and the potential mates groom themselves as best as can be for the big night.

The day goes well, and the rituals begin. The tribe is brought together in the center of the camp by Quillock, who centers the prospective mates around the river. Fifteen females and twenty males. Five males will be unlucky this eve. After a short intonation to the sky and the rain, Quillock marks the beginning of the ritual, and the thirtyfive lizardfolk dive into the river! The river is alive with a flurry of lizardflesh and water as the males wrestle both female and male for dominance. Once a male has proven his dominance, both in a test of strength and against his fellows, he may depart to a place of the new couple's choosing to consummate his victory.

The evening is loud as the tribe's victors celebrate, but all comes to an end as night falls. There are still duties to be done, for both prospective mother and father. The night is cold and wet, but fresh memories of the primitive festival keep many of the sentries comfortable in the eve.

A new day begins, what shall the mosstooth do today?
>>
Bang the harpies as well. They have no males. I say we create a special class for harpy females to act as nannies, earning them more food. This will deepen their bond to us and leave the stronger lizardfolk to work.
>>
Also we need to make sure there are enough weapons and tools for each member of the tribe. No more digging with hands.

Of tools? Use axes to cut the extra lumber we have into hoes, shovels, and picks. overlaying fishbones to make saws. Vines to make rope

Of Weapons? Scavenge for bones of animals, and use fish bones to make simple daggers. Lumber to make clubs. Vines to make nets.

Let's go harass giants and see if they have metal.
>>
Rolled 50, 13 = 63 (2d100)

>>36234071
Sounds reasonable. I'll say that scavenging for materials is one major, and creation is another.
>>
well that creation roll sucked lol.
>>
With the current major construction made harder by rain, the tribe turns its full effort toward tool and weapon creation. Simple farming implements are made first, the memory of such tools still fresh on the tribe's mind from their time in the clan. Hoes and shovels are quite easily made, but any pickaxes seem rather shoddy. A fair amount of rope is made, roughly sixty feet's worth, though it is quite heavy and thick due to the method used in its creation.

The numerous fish carcasses in the camp are used to make small daggers and knives, rather sharp but brittle due to their construction. A fair amount of clubs are made of tough wood, and a few more nets are made.

>Gain: Four Primitive Hoes, Five Primitive Shovels, Two Shoddy Primitive Pickaxes, Five Bone Daggers, Six Good Clubs, and Three Vine Nets.

The tribe is hard at work during the day when they feel the ground begin to shake, and rock. A harpy is quickly dispatched and it is revealed that a small party of giant creatures are approaching the camp's walls! They do not bear arms, and are approaching openly.

How does the tribe respond?
>>
Send an older lizardman and a harpy forward to speak to the giants. Try to keep them from coming too far into the encampment. The person we send forward should be both wise, and unbais towards other races.
>>
>>36234327

Meet them outside our walls with equal party of unarmed lizards.
>>
>>36234327
Send the druid. Druids are friendly!
>>
Prepare a place for them to be dry and be welcome. A place where it easy to overwhelm them if they get feisty. Use Druid to make an impression.

On another note, at some point we really fully incorporate the harpies into our culture. Helping grow their numbers can help.
>>
Alright. Writing.
>>
>>36234452
I like this idea. do we have a location this will work?

>>36234327
If you cant answer this, then do not worry about it. What odds would we have at success against the Giants? And if we do not have high odds, is there a chance we could just pull a slavery move and agree to be their ervants till another time when revolting would benefit us.

>>36234327
Finally would the spirits help us in a fight?
>>
>>36234452

>On another note, at some point we really fully incorporate the harpies into our culture. Helping grow their numbers can help.

I agree. I don't care if they go back to their tree and develop on their own though. That was my line of thinking when we made friends with them - building an allied nation rather than fully integrating, which happened, and is fine too. Maybe part of them can go back to the tree and build it up though. That includes sending V-the-character with them to build though, or at least training disciples if these nature powers are something that can be taught.
>>
>>36234531
>Finally would the spirits help us in a fight?

We have no contact with the spirits as far as I know. We briefly "felt something" by a tree in the East, we never pursued it further. We don't know where V-the-character's powers come from.
>>
>>36234531
1. I do not believe so.
2. You cannot be sure, as you do not know their full number.
3. You are not sure, though V's acolyte level abilities are still useful in a fight.
>>
>>36234541
I say we send V to the tree to deepen that relationship and become a better Druid. Send both harpy and lizardfolk acolytes. 2nd group of harpies is scouts and 3rd group are breeders/nannies.

Lizardfolk become one of a few specialized groups. Builders/inventors,farmers, and warrior/hunters. Time to get organized.

The tribe elects to send a small number to meet with the giants on even terms. The harpy reports four giants, and thus the tribe sends eight lizardfolk to meet them, including V. They go unarmed, though the group looks obviously uncomfortable with this idea.

The group goes out and meets the giants on the riverbank, though below the canopy as to avoid the majority of the rain pelting into the river. The giants are each four times the size of your tribesmen, with a deep green skintone and leafy green beards.

The four giants wait for the lizardfolk to approach, before one nods in greeting. "Greetings, little lizards." He has a fully grown constrictor wrapping around his arm, from shoulder to wrist. It looks at the group, unblinkingly. It is as large as two lizardfolk.

"I bring greetings from the Stonehammer Clan. Our chieftain has bid me to greet you and gauge your threat and usability to our great clan. He looks to the rather small encampment and back to you. "I remain unconvinced."

How does the group react?
>>
Note that an average lizardfolk is 1.75~ meters, or about 5.5 ft tall.

Ask what he means by usability.

This

>>36234781
this seems like almost a declaration of war. We do not have the means to truly fight them. I vote we show them the smoker and fish. Offer to send a tribute to them of food. we have plenty. So lets use part of our stash to ensure survival.
>>
>>36234753

I support this 100%. Have a small outpost on the tree. Part hunts, part scouts, part practices on the great tree vines and visits the nearby "spirit tree" to learn.

>>36234781
>>36234840
>>36234884

I think "usability" is a bit of a veiled threat, but we should ignore it. *Will* the vines above us into a cover from the rain. "Greetings. I think you will find we can find ways to help one another. At the moment, we can offer fish to trade. Maybe more in the future."
>>
>>36234888

There is nothing for them to gain from killing us. unless they eat lizards. We have nothing. But we can produce fish. And maybe, just maybe, we have scary nature powers. Let's play it like that without being hostile, imo at least.

At first, the group is slightly taken aback, but quickly regroup calmly. V wills the vines above to form a more complete canopy against the rain. The lead giant looks up as the rain thins and raises an eyebrow.

"Greetings." V replies. "I think you may find that we have ways to help one another. At the moment, we can offer fish for trade, and perhaps more in the future."

The giant is quiet for the moment. "We shall see. You will see us in the future." It is with that that the giants move off and leave, rather abruptly at that.

The rest of the day is spent sharpening and honing tools and weapons. Again, the curtain of rain reduces visibility during the night watch, but provide a small measure of comfort as well.

A new day begins, what shall the Mosstooth tribe do today?

5-10 lizards or harpies that want to be closer to nature / try to learn powers / become a solitary hunter / tracker / scout should come with.

>>
>>36235670
I like the idea of Bolas. do you think vine nets could hold a giant? or would they just disorient? or would they be wholly uneffective? Harpys use bolas or nets to ground a giant. Then the lizardmen jump in an cut their throats.

Also could potentially try to redirect river so it floods their settlement but that may be too much.
>>
I am looking at becoming inventor full time. Bolas sound good, but let's make sure all the lizards are equipped with axes first and make the quality good. Like 50 axes
>>
Ways to defend are going to be crucial since we don't know for certain if the giants are going to attack us or not. (Use us as slaves maybe) And even if they don't, we should still be able to stave off any attack.

>>36235790
Do we have access to etals to make good axes? I thought we really just had wood stuff at the moment. maybe animal bones.

>>36236006
Bows are better than crossbows.
>>
Guys. Guys. Guys. Bone-tip arrows. Bone-tip javelins. Arrowheads snap inside wounds (because brittle material) when they try to to pull it out.

The majority of the tribe spends the day honing their new weapons and tools. This goes quite well and all of the weapons look much sharper and useful!
> All weapons other than Good weapons move one grade up. (Shoddy to Normal to Good)

A small number of harpies are sent to tail the giants. For now it appears that your scouts go unnoticed. And one reports that the giants are headed along the river to the northeast.

V, along with three harpies, make their way across the river to the spiritual tree she had previously found. The journey is uneventful and wet.

The day ends. The tribe puts up sentries, the scouts roost above the giants, and V's group settles in for the night.

He night passes, uneventful. What does the tribe do today?

Note that the entire 'Civ' uses both actions. Thus, you must divide your actions among the three groups.

>>36236265
Defense idea: potted chokeweed, bundles of chokeweed, or even V just growing a fuckload of chokeweed super fast with his druid powers. We could place it along a perimeter when we are anticipating a siege, just lob bundles of it into an enemy camp, or just have V accelerate it's growth and plant it in front of a force that is attacking us. Even giants need to breath, and this gives us something pretty close to tear gas if we can properly weaponise it. Maybe see if the smoke from burning it does anything...

We didn't. Its just a possibility that some people have said since the tree talking to us and you want to be cautious when dealing when nature spirits of any kind. Note, that as research is a major action normally, the second research roll will be cut in half in terms of progress.
>>
The tribe begins to research a way to make combat at range more efficiently than with thrown weaponry. A small number of those in the tribe had done combat with a force of rat men far to the south who had made use of rather effective weaponry. Unfortunately, their memory is foggy and thus the reverse engineering process appears to be going quite slowly.

(1%)

V spends the day communing with the spirits of the grove, attempting to decipher what they are trying to tell her. She makes a decent amount of progress, and feels slightly more in tune with the surrounding area, though the feeling is indistinct, foggy.

Magic(Nature) I (35%)

The harpies track the giants along the river masterfully, sending a flier back every so often to report. The small group has moved further northeast and is currently camping in a clearing where there are a few corpses. They are humanoid in shape, pale of skin, and have sharp, pointed ears.

A new day begins, what shall our tribe do this day?
>>
>>36237161
Okay, at this rate, it will take 100 days to make a bow, which is kind of absurd.
Does anyone have ideas on how to speed it up?
>>
>>36237240

I think it's just the shitty roll (1/100) that we made. Pretty sure at least.

>>36237161

Did the harpies report on where the corpses came from? Did the giants kill them or are they just there? Equipment on corpses? Any sign of path or trail which they could have followed?

With all that said, I think we have to keep focusing on bows. Absolutely critical to us as a weaker (in comparison to enemies encountered) race. Harpies would be absolutely vicious with crossbows (not sure if they have draw strength for regular).

>scout giant village
>if lots of wood/straw
>have harpies firebomb them at night
>gg giants
>>
>>36237161
Well, since we can, major magic so we can get that as done as possible, then minor the other two.

Oooo critical information. Praise the harpies, seriously. Still, they need to keep following. Looks like we are in the middle of two big boy civs playing war.

V's commune with the nature spirits is interrupted by a cacophony of noise! It seems that nature has chosen this day for a clash of the sky spirits above, a thunderstorm. V is nearly unable to make any progress with the nature spirits during this storm, as their voices are drowned out in the cacophony of spirits above.

Magic(Nature) I: 50%

Though the storm does hurt the scouting effort slightly, the tribe finds recourse when one of the fliers return with the broken remains of a bow! Hardly recognizable, but the materials used allow for a quick hop in progress on the reverse engineering.

The harpies work masterfully as they shadow the giants' path. The giants finally get to their home base it seems. A system of trees within the forest, many hollowed out to form dwellings. The harpies report of many advancements beyond that of the lizardfolk. The giants have a rudimentary forge within the hollow of a giant, dead, tree. It appears to be maintained by some sort of fire shaman amongst the giants. They also have crude iron weaponry, and number at roughly 20 combatants, with no children. The harpies also return with two of the refined armors, intact.

I agree. Research both as hard as we can.

Cool, thanks for detailed info. I think we can wipe them out if we really need to, based on this. With sneaky tactics, a number of which we can utilize. Anyway, imo we should leave them alone. Maybe we should use our harpies and have them watch the road. It looks like it's a cross roads of sorts that both the elves(dark elves?) and the giants use and COULD use to approach us.

Other than that, I third >>36237925

>we could try to burn down their tree-forge in the night later, which would weaken them and making them more suggestible.

We can burn them in their houses if we do it right. I really want to figure out the nature of the conflict and the goals of each "faction" here. Maybe play them both. We really need to figure out where the elves live too.

We could store choke weed for the harpies to drop into the giant's forge. If we dump enough it could knock out enough of their camp for us to swoop in.
>>
I'm here

We should start bombing the giants with the choking plant, putting the leaves in the trees to fall into their camp. Plant a small amount around them, up wind of their camp.

At home, work on finding bog iron or metallic sands in the river

We haven't finished our Herbs research. Let's.

On the third day of her research, V finally understands the most basic of her abilities! She still cannot completely understand the nature spirits, but she has learned how to converse on an empathetic level with the nature spirits, and as an aside, with the various animals of the forest. The spirits also showed her how to use her ability to coax life where it may be hidden, given time. Finally, she learns that her abilities wax and wane with... something. She simply knows that there is a connection between her spiritual strength, and that of the jungle, or... those in the jungle?

>Magic(Nature) I Unlocked!
>Gain: Empathetic Communication: Jungle animals treat the druid and any accompanied by the druid as more friendly than they otherwise would be. Prey animals see the druid as a protector and friend, while predators may see the druid as a rival or grudging peer. The druid may further attempt to change this relationship through the use of this ability.

>Gain:Ritual(Growth):The druid may attempt to force life to flourish in an area. This ritual takes two forms, one on a macro scale where a large area's plantlife flourishes, and takes three days to complete, and one where a small area, such as a clearing, is swiftly choked by some form of nettle or vine, and any creatures within this suffer from disadvantage in combat situations.

>Gain:Clue:Nature Attunement

Unfortunately for the rest of the tribe, it appears that their good fortune has hit a bump, as their research of the bow falters again. They make progress, figuring out a prototype bowstring, but the specifics of a bow suited for jungle combat and for lizardfolk and harpy use still eludes them.

I say major research Bows and Herbs.

Also, can the Growth Ritual be used on the Chokeweed or other specific plants?

Try a flu-flu arrow, only needs to go a short distance

Look for peat, bog iron, or metallic sands.
Have V call to some of pic to be our pets

I dunno, maybe I am impatient as fuck, but I kind of want to track down the elves. Maybe have a few harpies and lizards go to the corpses and look for a possible way there and follow it if found.

Also, as a thought, the giant dwelling might just be an outpost, but that's kind of unlikely considering all the production structures. Imo, we can take them (as described by others - I will add: vines/block entrances, burn houses at night). But we shouldn't. We should build trade / relationships whenever possible.

Also, this is kind of a generic decision, but it seems to me that we are generally "neutral good" aligned. Not to choke us with labels, but is that a correct impression fellow lizards?
>>
>>36238326
I'd say that sounds about right.

>>36238263
Yes. I agree.

Also I nominate the following to be our theme:

>>36238326
Yes. We are and it makes me glad.

We need to stay the course on our current goals. If the magic is unlocked then let's build weapons, to include bows once research is complete. Or pour all energy into bows.
>>
>>36238401
Can we finish the Herbs first? We got distracted, but we're 70% done with them, and they have some great applications
>>
>>36238460
Okay then we should go all in on herbs, then all in on bow. But we have to get to a production stage or were fucked.

>>
>>36238521
It's about finishing the tasks at hand. They are great ideas and I have no prob with making forged. But I'm expecting an attack and we need to be ready. New tech paths are only going to hurt us.

Also do we know if the giants have more of those snakes?
>>
>>36238587
Good idea. Get their snakes to kill the giants. But iron weapons can always help, unless we get really good with herbs to poison people with a bone arrow.
>>
V quickly returns across the water with a mind heavy in thought. Upon her return she immediately begins research on the two herbs. Working late into the night, she finally cracks both! With all of the testing done on bloodleaf's medicinal applications, V determines that given the proper tools and environment, she could create a brew from this herb, one that, upon imbibing, would patch up minor wounds and staunch bleeding across the body!

>Learned: Bloodleaf applications: Healing Draught (Minor)

On the other hand, she also learns that in the same manner, she could create a choking poison from choking teeth. Upon imbibing this foul liquid, the imbibers windpipe will react violently and clench up, preventing any air from reaching the lungs and thusly leading to death.

The reverse engineering on the bow seems to be moving much more swiftly today! The ideal bow is nearing completion! Currently the only question is stability and finding the correct wood to balance flexibility and ease of crafting.

This and build a tiny building for 2 lizards/harpies to brew potions in...do we even have pots?

Hippie shit. Gotta make them plants. Did we even see any crocs yet? But yea, not a bad idea by any means, but trying to get fundamentals wrapped up.

I wanna find elves.
>>
>>36238646
Also, can we get a rundown of all our gear, resources, tech, and buildings like the giants?
>>
>>36238625
Finish the bows and look into contact poisons using the choking teeth plant. All it takes is a small cut, and down falls the giant
>>
>>36238625
Can we heat the choking teeth poison to make it a gas?
>>
Given that the giants are partnered with snakes, and their snakes are almost equally massive (and the fact that we're in a jungle), it's almost entirely likely that they only have constrictors and non-venomous critters at their disposal. Let's research dat poison application to weapons, get all na'vi up in this bitch.

also finish bow research

And with one more day, the bow is finally completed! The bow is optimized for portability and stability of use, light enough for use in trees, and with some difficulty in the air. The arrows can be crafted from the bone of small animals, such as fish and the various birds of the jungle.

>Bow Unlocked!

The hut is put up using the remaining lumber in the village. It is rather cramped relatively, but is perfect for V's purposes. What's more, is that she finds the time for make herself a proper pestle and mortar for use in manipulating herbs!

>Druidic Hut built!

And I believe that's all folks. If anyone has any questions for me, I'll stick around for 30-60 minutes longer. I may reveal more information about the giants or the surroundings, or perhaps the tribe's history with the clan, if there's any interest in that direction. Otherwise, goodbye and good night!

Now, I think most of us here are regular players/lurkers, but in the case some are not, here are the two links you need to catch up and follow Civilization: Lizardfolk!
