LAST TIME, ON POKEMON: SOUTHERN SHORES QUEST....

There was some Buizel bitch-slapping, some bikini-based fun, and another bout of unconsciousness! Our trio has assembled a total of 9 Pokemon as of Grey’s third day (Erica’s third week), with Dani currently trailing at only 2 ‘mons to her name. However, this is sure to change if the current streak of incredible luck continues! Will they challenge the Gym, soon? Will Mossimer find true love? Will Mittens ever stop being so awesome? Let’s find out!

My name is Grey, and I am currently experimenting with my Pokedex.

The Pokedex is one of the many tools that a trainer has at their disposal, and is easily one of their most useful (if not their most useful).

Aside from updating server-side information regarding new catches, user-generated emergency alerts, rankings, and Pokemon health states it also features an array of apps and functions that are very useful. For example, a lot of trainers use the “Wild Call” database to lure, scare, or confuse wild Pokemon. You used it to catch Apollo, for instance.

Also, the basic training algorithm software operates with Pokeballs and reinforces selected trained or natural behaviors while the trainer's Pokemon rest in their containers. Finally, a rudimentary analysis software, like the one you are looking at now, can even look at your pokemon’s structural data. Cross-referencing this with crowd-sourced accounts of move usage and stats, you can begin to better understand what moves and strategies a given Pokemon has the structures, organs, and characteristics to use.

You look up and watch Erica and Dani yell as Nereid turns her tail in a little motor, zipping about while splashing any and all bystanders in cold, clear water.

You chuckle and then turn to the sleeping form at your side. Mittens is currently curled up, her top half on your lap, and softly sleeping. You rub her ear, which slightly twitches. You go back to the pokedex, and you...

>Look at internal organs and stats (Special attacks)
>Look at external and foundational structure (Physical attacks)

>Pick one of your Pokemon to learn more about (Mittens, Apollo, Nereid, or Sheldon)

We can't count on Nereid yet, Mittens already we try her best for us, and Apollo has that overheat already, so Sheldon is best choice.

This is a tough question for me to answer without ruining a sort of OOC/IC knowledge balance we have going on.

If you want to know because it's really awesome? Then keep in mind that you, the Anons, can directly affect how awesome this quest is. I'll leave it at that.

If you want to know for "balance" purposes? Then keep in mind how useful the Spinarak was in the beginning of the quest with string shot, a useless attack (in game). Pokemon utility is just as dependent on creativity as it is on strength/size/stats/etc.

I'm not trying to brush you off - just don't want to ruin too many surprises! I hope you understand, friend.
>>
>>36391700
Well Apollo has proven capable of lighting himself on fire through the fire retardant fur and flammable oils it naturally secretes. We just need to get him to do that on a more localised scale than with the Overheat attack and pair that up with some regular physical attacks like tackle

So I guess, we should work on physical attacks with him if we want to go that way

You pull up Apollo’s information. Specifically, you begin reading about his physical characteristics and the basic structures of his body. Claws, teeth, four legs – right, but does the curvature of his spine lend towards rolling attacks? What is the PSI of his bite, and how do his teeth work with the flames he produces? Are his legs strong enough for a take-down, or are his front legs relatively more powerful and built for claw attacks? So many questions.

The system displays a few general parameters, with submenus available to dig into specifics. You do a bit of cross-reference and, sure enough, he’s capable of a Bite attack. Good, because he’s already demonstrated that ability! (“And at least I know the system is working, now!”)

Bite falls into an interesting “gray” area between physical and special, seeing as how he has to produce the “aura” (you guess that’s what you would call it) necessary to penetrate through ghost shrouds and psychic projections. That’s more specialized organs, whereas the actual biting falls into skeletal strength, motor function, jaw strength, etc.

Anyways. You then move onto “Crunch,” as it is called – simply a more powerful “Bite,” albeit usually targeted to specific areas to inflict even more damage. To develop that you’ll need to work on his jaw strength and probably his ability to discern vulnerabilities in different targets. Not too hard.

>cont.
>>
>>36392096
>work on his jaw strength
We have an excuse to get him a chewtoy
>>
>>36392096

Moving on to more “elemental” attacks, you look up flame wheel, flare blitz, and dig.

He’s capable of producing the external flames necessary for a “physical” fire attack, but the system is reading his leg strength as insufficient to properly do a flame wheel. A flare blitz… is possible but will most likely hurt your Growlithe a lot unless you work to strengthen his ability to hit things. A bit of bulking, building strength, and upping his defense.

He can dig, right. The motor skills are probably there… But his current lung capacity makes it dangerous to really use. Also, he doesn’t have the fine inner-ear, magnetic-sensing, or, uh, vibration-sensing traits needed. You’ll probably have to artificially alter him with a TM to make it viable.

Then, as a sort of afterthought, you look up Roar and the closely-related Snarl. He has the vocal capacity to produce a Roar which will probably be effective on ‘Mons his size. To make use of a long-range Snarl, however, you’ll have to work on his vocal-cord strength and the production of his… “Dark aura.” You really need a new term for that.

>For Crunch: Work on Attack and Growlithe's general experience in battling / training.
>For Flame Wheel: Work on Speed.
>For Flare Blitz: Attack, Defense, and HP (Bulk)
>For Dig: TM or come up with something different
>For Snarl: Special attack (roaring practice? and Dark projection ability)

You pack away your ‘Dex, having read enough for your purposes. Now comes the fun part: training. And by fun you mean potentially long and tedious. But, hey, with some effort and creativity you can make it fun.

You give a sharp whistle, fingers clenched between your lips. In response, a puffy white tail twitches lazily.

You cup your hands around your mouth and shout towards the orange and white form lazing about in some sun-soaked grass. “Apollo!” Two ears, tall and tufted, perk up as eyelids flutter open once, twice before staying open. Then, with a mighty shaking and stirring your little Growlithe gets onto its legs to tighten backwards into a long stretch.

There is a yawn. Another one, and then your Growlithe shakes the sleep out of its head before engaging in a series of nips and scratches at his haunches. Must be a particularly stubborn itch. You yell again and motion with your hand for him to come over. And, he does, tongue out and tail wagging, excitedly and with bounding energy.

You carefully lift Mittens and then place her in a soft spot under the shade of a tree. She stirs but stays deeply asleep enough to not waken. Then you march back over to Apollo, gathering rocks and pine cones from the ground as you go. “Alright, Apollo. Time to ‘Fetch.’” You kneel down to him, a pine cone in one hand and a treat in the other. “’Fetch,’” you repeat while wiggling the pine cone about. Then you stand, plant your feet, and rear back your arm for a mighty throw. “FETCH!”

You’re not sure if the “fetch” instinct is there for Growlithes, but they’re kinda part dog so it should be somewhere in their fundamental makeup, right?

You throw the pine cone like a pro. If you want to train speed then you have to throw fast and far. Makes total sense to you, at least. The pine cone whistles through the air and Apollo takes chase after it, bounding quickly on his short little legs across the grass….!

And it’s gone.

So, while you were concerned with throwing the pine cone hard and fast you didn’t particularly take into the account that it might be lost in the thick underbrush surrounding you. Poor Apollo skirts around the edge of the brush, sniffing and looking for the pine cone, then back to you, and then back to the brush. You didn’t mean to confuse him and look like an idiot. You call him back and he returns quickly enough.

Alright, time for take two!

>3

Yeah…. It doesn’t go much better the second time.

You imagine that Apollo didn’t want to lose the pine cone this time, which is great, and his method of setting it on fire midair was effective, but catching a bush on fire with a flaming pine cone was not in your original plan. “Holyshit!” You trot over towards the bush, which is now steadily burning, and begin throwing sand onto its lower reaches in hopes of extinguishing the flames.

>71

Unknown to you at the time, Apollo had rushed to your side after seeing your concern. He sat there for a bit, watching you shovel dirt onto the flames, before turning around and doing so himself. His efforts, however, were much more successful than yours! Soon after his little paws began flying the flame had been extinguished and you… were quite a bit dirtier.

Alright, well, fetch will currently be tabled in favor of other ideas. A little too dangerous right now, or at least impractical short of burning the whole forest down. You don’t think the Rangers would be too happy about that.

You set the wheels in your mind to turning. There’s the straightforward approach of “tag,” which could involve either you personally or one of your other Pokemon. Unfortunately, none are going to be nearly as fast or quick as Apollo on land. You could try your best but you imagine you’ll tire long before Apollo does.

That leaves a nontraditional approach. The first idea to pop into your mind is having Apollo chase a treat around… You don’t have any manufactured toys right now… What could you use instead to dangle in front of him and pull away…?

>98

That’s it! The fishing rod!

>>>>

A few minutes of tinkering and experimenting and you have manufactured a toy that you think will work. You’ve stuffed treats and peanut butter into the corners and crevices of a pinecone, which you then securely tied to the fishing pole via the fishing line. You removed the hooks and other bits, of course, but the pinecone should hold up well enough.

You let Apollo have some licks and sniffs at it – he very much approves, and tries to wrench it out of your hands to really bite at it. You pull away, gesturing in a throwing motion. You can see the beginnings of flame and smoke from his muzzle but you squash that idea with a firm “No! No fire!” He stops, thankfully.

You cast the line; time for some Growlithe baiting! Or, at least, time to tire him out.
He rushes after it, and you…

You hear the words of Legendary Pokemon Hunter, Irwin “Krookodile” Stevenson, in your heads as you watch Apollo get onto his haunches, growling, and approach the pine cone. “Easeh, easeh nahw, Grey…. Gatta feel yah instincts….”

You reach out to your instincts; closing your eyes and letting your grip on the rod loosen, you also feel your soul loosen. That sounds so philosophical, you idly think.

You breathe in, then out. In. And. Out. Your training has allowed you to enter this sort of zen state that helps you focus – you fall into the state quickly. Peaceful. Quiet. Apollo growls.

>88

You open your eyes and jerk the line quickly – the pine cone lifts up and makes a smooth arc over Apollo. Time seems to slow down as he jumps into the air, teeth bared and tongue lolling, and the pinecone just grazes one of his teeth.

You start reeling, the cone hitting the ground before bouncing – the tension then hits it and Apollo is once again short on catching it. You reel and rug the pine cone to the left, with Apollo skidding in the dirt after it; his paws dig into sandy loam and leave long tracts behind him.

You give another jerk, and the pine cone rises from the ground once more and sails towards you. You watch with bated breath as four orange, furry legs pump furiously in an attempt to catch the peanut buttery projectile. The pine cone is just feet away from your face, and you bend backwards. Apollo jumps.

The pinecone brushes past your nose. The sunlight glints along leaves and through the branches overhead.

Apollo does a tucking roll while in mid-air, and you can smell the sooty, earthen smell of his coat as he sails over you.

He lands on the other side of you, pine cone in his jaws.

You spend some time continuing to train with Apollo. Eventually, the two of you are reduced to sweaty, panting blobs. You leave Apollo to rest before considering your options and the time. You take a long swig of water as you look through your SILPHone.

New message from your mom, the Professor, and… Nick? Huh. Also, a Trainer Tour Newsletter. You note that your Ranger Alert App also has a couple notifications. You’ll get to all that soon enough…

You pull the sandwich Dani made from you out of its bag and take some large bites out of it. Washing it down you pull your change of clothes back out from your bag and walk over to the girls, sitting at the edge of the spring.

You sit down next to Dani and Erica, with Dani squeaking a teeny tiny bit as you sidle up next to her. “How’s it going, girls?”

Erica nods quietly, nibbling on her own sandwich, and Dani coughs a bit before saying that things are going “Well, all the Pokemon are getting along pretty well. Dr… Uh, Dr. Claw,” You give a Look at that name. Erica shrugs. “Is a bit too rough with Mossi but they’re alright. Sheldon is nice. Paddie enjoys chasing him. Nereid has been trying to egg everyone into various games. She spent a while trying to hit Vlad with a water gun but, well, he’s still dry.” Dani tosses a piece of sandwich into the air, which Vlad swoops at and catches, before taking a bite herself. “Hawhbout,” she chews, “… you, Grey?”

“Doing alright. Trying to train Apollo up so he can manage more of the physical moves available to him. Speed-based right now.” You take a big bite, finishing your half of a sandwich. “… like Flame Wheel, or quick attack. Unfortunately, I’m pretty filthy now, so gotta clean off again.” You peel your shirt off, leading to another slight coughing fit as Dani turns away. “What…?” You give her a teasing grin. “You’ve already seen me like this. No big deal, right?” She shakes her head.

“Yeah, but that was before I had to kiss you back to life!” She adds a quiet “dumbass,” which you hear, but you note that she says it with a smile.

“I’m sorry that was so rough on you. To think you would hate your first kiss…” You slide into the water, wading away from her, and begin scrubbing your hair. “I hope you don’t hold it against me, Dani.”

>98

You barely hear it this time, but Dani offers a mumbled “I didn’t hate it.” You almost turn to look back at her and give an embarrassed smile, but you notice that you can see her reflection in the water, albeit dimly, and she’s… You blush. She’s staring at your… “ass,” and doing so unabashedly, sandwich hanging from her mouth.

You think of saying something. Maybe turning around, giving Dani a “smoldering” look and sweeping her off her feet for a moviescene kiss… -- yeah, probably wouldn’t go over like it does in your head.

Instead you opt for what you know is coming: Espurr Embarrassment. Seriously, it’s like the little purple fuzz ball has some sort of homing mechanism for embarrassing thoughts.

You bend over, to “scrub your ankles,” and cause Dani to choke and cough again. Sure enough, you hear Mittens little voice ring in your mind shortly after.

“DaniFriend, why you stare at GreyButt?” You hear Erica laughing, and Dani swear. “Why you like Gre- Hey!” Mittens’s voice is turned into intense giggling. You turn around to see Dani tickling the little thing mercilessly.

Mittens tries to push her off, while mentally shouting like a gradeschooler: “YOU LIKE GREYYY! You want TOUCH GREYBUTT!”

“Mittens, come on! You can’t just read my mind like that!” Dani picks her up bodily, and little protests follow. She then stands, heaving, and throws a howling kitten into the water. There is a moment of violent splashing and mewling before you cease your laughter enough to help the little thing onto the shore. Mittens shakes off, growling and mumbling. Her eyes are obscured by wet-down hair, and her ears are even floppier than usual.

“Mittens…. No…. like…. WATER!” You watch as Mittens once again puts her paws up, towards the spring. A blob of water is surrounded by purple light, and begins separating from the surface. Just like with Nereid. Only this time, it’s moving towards Dani.

>Block the water
>53+5

You raise two wary arms towards Mittens, trying to calm her down with some soothing words. Dani is behind you, not helping the situation in the least. You’re not sure who is more childish sticking their tongue out: Dani, or Mittens? Erica, for her part, has laughed herself into a rolling mess nearby. “Mittens… Mittens, no! Dani will apologize! Right, Dani?”

Dani emphatically denies this. Awesome. Just awesome. “Okay, I will apologize for her! I’m sorry, Mittens!”

Mittens just growls again while throwing her arms, and the pulsing blob, forward. “No! Dani throw Mittens WATER! MEANIEHEAD!”

You dive, trying to block the orb of water… Which you do. Unfortunately, water has this tricky little property of being a “liquid,” and so the orb wraps around your form a bit instead of being deflected. The orb swells against your cheek and your body. It’s like a giant balloon has been thrown into you, and your momentum is arrested before you are sent backward.

Into Dani.

The orb then explodes, effectively washing you clean and soaking Dani’s second pair of clothes today.

You find yourself knocked onto Dani in a rough collision. There's a yelp and a squeak, and then you find her soft body pressing into you, your hands braced on either side of her head. You both blink. Stare. Think. Then? The two of you become a sputtering, babbling mess. No Squirtle shell could help you now. And Mittens? Mittens is a giggling, rotten little thing. She’s getting NO dessert tonight.

>Minutes later....

Everyone dries off, and you’re currently scrubbing Mittens dry with a heavy towel while propped against a somber, grumbling Dani. Erica is busy returning all the Pokemon and gathering up some of your supplies. She thought it best to give you and Dani some space. You agree with her decision.

“So… I guess I should wear these shorts more often. I thought they were just comfortable but…” You wrap the towel around Mittens and turn to the grumpy young woman at your back. “What do you say, Dani? Think they look good on me?”

She goes red, buries her head in her hands with a mumbling “Shutup,” and then punches your arm lightly. A sufficient answer.

"Hey, I wanted you to know… If I were conscious, I would have liked it too."

It takes her a moment, but she realizes the implications of what you just said. She goes red, and only offers a sputtering “G-good… Ha…Haha” before descending into nervous laughter.

>>>>

The three of you are walking back towards camp when you strike up a conversation with Erica, the shortest of the three of you and the newest addition.

“So, Erica… I was wondering – what Region are you from?”

>The Northeast Harbors Region. Cold, rainy, lots of delicious krabby chowder. A lot of people and a lot of variety. Streets have a mean side and a beautiful side, you know?

>The Central Plains Region. Vast, untamed. Wild, yet homely. The communities are small but the people have big hearts, you know? Plus, you could get lost in the beauty of the wilds for hours.

>The Western Rainy Region. Like the night sky – dreary, if you don’t know where to look. Hardworking people who like to create, to explore. An interesting mix of all different sorts.

>The Southwestern Deserts Region. Tough, like the people and the Pokemon. If you wanted to survive there you had to work. If you wanted to thrive? You had to work hard.

>Sorry about post wait time. Real life!

The air is temperate, albeit a bit humid, and filled with birdsong and the rustlings of smaller animals and Pokémon. The three of you take in the sights, Erica in the lead and you behind her. Dani is staying suspiciously close to your side, which you don’t mind. At all. Really.

Erica stops in the middle of the trail, causing both you and Dani to stop short a bit; Dani knocks into your arm a bit. You cough and both of you laugh nervously. Erica speaks up in her usual, timid tone. “Central Region.” You look at her, a little lost, before she continues. “Your question. I’m from Central.”

You give an “Aha!” sort of nod, smiling now.

“Either of you ever been?” You both shake your heads no. “There are a lot more wide open spaces there. Mountains, forests, lakes…. Herds of Pokémon. I’m talking hundreds!” She makes a big, sweeping gesture with her arms. This is the most she’s ever talked to you personally. It’s nice seeing her light up like this.

“You wouldn’t believe the sizes! It was a wild, wild place. So beautiful, though. I used to sit outside for hours after school, drawing the mountains in the distance or the plains when the sun was setting… My mind would get lost in it, you know?”

The three of you start walking again, with Erica regaling you with stories of her time in Central, or the Midwest as it was once known. “People still drive a lot of trucks there… Very quaint towns, with nice people. Quiet, though.” She scoffs. “I actually liked the quiet…”

There are a few moments of silence before she speaks again. “You know, that’s how I was robbed? Also how I met Mossimer.”

>cont.
>>
>>36398309

Dani speaks up at that one. “Because you like the quiet?”

“N-no.” Erica laughs a bit. “Because I was lost in nature. I was standing there, zoned out, and I didn’t notice that this pair of guys had stopped on the Main Road and were coming back around. They challenged me to a battle,” She goes quiet, and you see the tension in her jaw and arms. “I didn’t have any Pokémon. They said I had to pay up anyways, then. That I had lost. Yeah.” She deflates a bit.

>I'm hoping that slow updates are better than no updates. Sorry, guys.

Dani speeds up a bit until she’s walking alongside Erica. Her hand eases onto Erica’s left shoulder and she pulls the shorter girl into her, her right hand tickling at Erica’s right arm.

“Hey now! No getting so depressed!” Dani looks back to you. “Right, Grey?” You nod and join them on Erica’s left side, your hand ruffling her dark, curly hair.

“That’s right!” You put on your "brave gentleman" face with a hand to the air. Erica brightens a bit. A smile dawns on her face. “So, why don’t you tell us how you met Mossi and Mittens?”

“Well,” Erica squints her eyes a bit and tilts her head in thought, “I met Mossi on my way back. The…” she clears her throat before resuming quietly, “'Assholes' left me with a Pokeball. Thankfully. Yeah. Jerkheads.” She shakes two balled-up fists. “Anyways, one day I was sitting in a clearing, nibbling on something, and I saw this little thing of moss and mushrooms slowly moving about. I sat there for a few minutes before throwing a berry at’im. He ate it, and we continued on like that. Then, well, I caught him. Also, we had to fight off a Starly… That wasn’t fun.” Erica chuckles and shrugs. “I guess it was bonding, though.”

“Mittens… I can’t remember meeting Mittens too much. I was really out of it at the time. All I remember is her promising to take care of me and watching her walk in through the doorway. I don’t know what I would have done if she didn’t find me, and then you guys.”

>>>>

The three of you settle into camp – a bit tired, but feeling the warmth of friendship in your bodies and souls. Erica takes to lying about in her tent. Claimed she wanted a nap. Mossimer is scuttling around as usual. Dani has taken to reading once more before placing a call on her phone. You….

“Where r u from J City?

He’s, uh, got an interesting way of texting.

Also, is it night yet? If it is, we should set up our tent before it gets to dark, then go look for night Pokemon, if we don't find any worth catching, we can at least get some xp on our pkmn better than having them toast, soak, or induce headaches on us

You settle into your seat before sending off a short text to Nick in response. “I just got 4 today. 3 v 3 is cool with me. Send me your cords, I’m at W near the river. You?”

You then look over your remaining messages; your mother sent you a warm enough message of “Hope you are stay. Stay in touch.” You respond with a “Doing alright. How are things up north? Love you,” before flipping to your last message. The Professor has sent you something… odd? “Glad we could go hiking the other day. Hard to do these days. So very worried about my health these day. Hope you can come by to talk about those ecological development theories some more soon. When will you be in town? Also, you must have missed the ceremony! I just realized, so I wanted to forward you this piece on their commencement speaker choice. Very interesting man. You will see.”

You open up the attachment to find a piece profiling that Russian scientist. Interesting? It’s surprising that he “just realized” you missed the exam, since you explicitly discussed it.

You read the text at least three times, trying to pick out more details or clues each time.

Obviously the whole thing is fabricated, or at least twisted somehow. The question remains: why? You start with the text itself. You didn’t go hiking. He didn’t just realize anything. He isn’t worried about his health…? No, that doesn’t make any sense to communicate to you. Either he’s worried about your health or he’s actually worried about his own health for other reasons. Maybe it’s because of his research…? And why is he pointing towards the Russian scientist?

You open the link, a short montage leading into an interview with Konstantin Basorovich, the speaker and, apparently, internationally known scientist. You try to pay attention to the interview but it is mostly fluff. Some bits about his work regarding industrialization and Pokémon, brief stints in behavioral studies, some work with international groups regarding space exploration and the utilization of Pokémon for such journeys. He’s apparently in the states to work with SILPH on some new algorithms and programs for next season’s release of Pokeball. Nothing’s clear to you, but this man is clearly of some import… Somehow?

You gather that the Professor needs to speak to you, and soon. You shoot off a text saying that you “will be back in town soon and a hike would be great. Maybe we could talk about those new pokeballs coming out soon.” That should be secretive enough.

You make a note to look over the Professor's ecological texts before bed. Maybe there's a clue there.

Preparedness is key! We don't want to be fumbling around in the dark trying to set up our tent after all, also make sure we tell dani where we are going so they don't get worried about us!

You cut short your investigations on the seedy scientific underworld, or at least for now. “Hey, Dani?” Your blonde haired friend looks up at you from her chair next to the fire, a cup of tea in one hand and her ‘Dex in the other. “I was thinking, we should check out some Trainer Tasks while we are out here. Did you get those notifications?”

She nods and takes a sip before responding. “Yeah, I looked at them, actually. There are a couple F and D-levels we could probably do. Apparently sandshrew populations in the area are affecting cacnea, sunkern, and cherrim populations negatively. Capture or neutralize, it said. And, uhh… Oh, yeah! A pair of Bibarel has started damming up part of the river. The Rangers want someone to break it apart so they’ll move somewhere else. Apparently there are some sensitive populations in the area that flooding would affect. Also, some debris has blocked a trail.”

You nod appreciatively, taking up a cup of warm tea yourself and peering into the trees while you drink. “Thanks. For looking and, youknow, telling me. Thanks.”

Dani smiles and gives a soft “you’re welcome.”
You pull up the Trainer newsletter. Some info about the Gym, a warning regarding a pack of Scythers to the North… Tips to avoid danger… No event notices or anything too interesting.

>Trainer tasks earn you ranking points and, uh, the pride of.... helping... people?
>They don't have to be done immediately. Most likely we will get to them tomorrow morning in-game and IRL.
>>
>>36401047
>Trainer tasks are cool and all, but that pack of Scythers? They are on the TOP of our todo list
>>
Okay. As expected, you guys are keen on hunting. And, most likely, taking Dani with you.

>Forest
>Plains
>River

Starting to wind down for tonight. Will continue tomorrow.
>>
>>36401047
A pack of Scythers? and I thought velociraptors were bad. Still that's going to hurt if they pack hunt us, Not even Apollo can take on more than 1 or 2.

>>36401087
>Forest

>>
>>36401087

>>
>>36401163

>>
>>36401193
Nah man, we're Grey, The Very Best. It's out gentlemanly duty to neutralise the dangers of a pack of scyther
>>
>>36401219
This anon gets it
>>
>>36401219
One Scyther could tpk a trainer a pack of 3-5 at once could very well kill us. Mittens is weak to bug, only Apollo could really hurt them, and if they are smart enough to pack hunt, they are smart enough to prioritize taking him out.
>>
>>36401254
wouldn't an aoe like overheat help to wipe them out?
>>
You tell Dani about the newsletter, focusing on the bit of the Scyther warning to the North.

You pull up the included map and see that the sightings cluster to the Northwest of Jay City proper. Around this high-density cluster sightings extend to a rough ring, one edge of which is near an hour’s walk away from your current location. You and Dani mull it over. She advises that they’re dangerous, hungry, and indiscriminate in their tastes. You agree; yet, “I WANT one! So bad!”

You make a few “scything” motions with your hands while hissing. She rolls her eyes and laughs.

“Probably best if we wait till tomorrow… and maybe get a tiny bit more prepared?”

You’ll think it over. Maybe. SCYTHERS! Screw danger, you want awesome raptor-bug killing machines!

You mention that, otherwise, you’d like to head to the plains and see about those sandshrews. There is likely a nest very close by, and a defensive ground type like that would be helpful for both of you. Dani agrees. She'd also like to try for an electric type in the area. You say that's more than fair.

>Scythers (Difficult; high risk, high reward)
>Today? (Risk darkness)
>Tomorrow?

>Sandshrews (Moderate to easy)
>Today?
>Tomorrow?
>>
>>36401254
That's why we use the tracking skills Old Man honed within us to perfectly trail and trap one. We could also borrow Vlad to distract and take the blows since bug barely hurts him.
>>
>>36401304
How fast are scythers known to move through areas? Is there the chance that by tomorrow we'll be too late to find them?
>>
>>36401299
They are fast, might catch one or two but if they have decent leveling to them they'll take him out.

>>36401313
Raptor bug would ignore him once a tangible threat pops up (us)

>>36401304
Shandshrew today
Scyther tomorrow in day time so they can't sneak up on us.
>>
>>36401304
>Scythers (Difficult; high risk, high reward)
>Tomorrow?

>Sandshrews (Moderate to easy)
>Today?

This possible? If not, then Scythers Tomorrow.
>>
>>36401304
>Scythers (Difficult; high risk, high reward)
>Today? (Risk darkness)
>>
>>36401348
And then Vlad will hypnosis them to sleep, potentially paralyse them with lick or maybe interfere with their respiration through the use of clear smog
>>
>>36401410
Can we get a sandshrew today and wait for daylight tomorrow for the pack? This way we get a tank in case anything goes wrong and the scythe won't be as likely to sneak up and gank us in daylight.
>>
>>36401304
>Sandshrews
>Today
I'd rather avoid the Scyther alltogether. I just don't see the appeal.
>>
>>36401313
>>36401348
But are we ready yet?...I mean a pack really we've fought like no real battles and you guys wanna jump at a pack already?

>Sandshrews
>Today
>>
>>36401440

I intended to communicate that this is a possibility.

>>36401338
The sightings are within a three week range, and you imagine their nest is around the "clustered" area. You think it at least semi-permanent until they run out of suitable food or head northward.
>>
>>36401304

>Sandshrews
>Today

>>Scythers
>>Tomorrow
>>
>>36401440
Yeah, if the scyther are likely to still be there tomorrow then going for the sandshrew this evening is the best idea

>>36401461
Well with our tracking prowess I'd rather see us single a scyther out from the pack before going for the capture. They're fast and powerful so even as a pack I'd imagine they keep some distance from each other and

>>36401472
>at least semi-permanent
Tomorrow it is!
>>
>>36401503
Also a fletchling or it evolutions would be a god send against a Scyther, we might want to see if we can nab one.
>>
I have to go to bed, guys.

Not mutually exclusive, but we need a nice spread on hand and having more than one anti bug on hand for them is good sense.
>>
>>36401733
That's true but carrying more than 6 pokemon is impractical for us at this stage, we need to upgrade our batteries to sustain a greater number and for that we need dosh.
>>

head back to town drop a few off or teleport the ones we don't need back. Of hit up the gym beat it and then go hunting we have a few weeks to do this.
>>

I will make a point to discuss long term time table next thread. In short? No rush right now.

Anyone have any questions?
>>
>>36402168
what are the native bird types around here?
>>
>>36402168
How long will it take Nick to get to us?
>>
>>36402191
True to Florida, you will see a lot of types, especially songbirdesque fliers, right now. A lot of young ones (it is currently spring).
Migratory types like that swanana thing are less common, as are many varieties of farfetchd.
>>
>>36402340
So a Fletchling is possible if we get lucky? But really any bird will do we need the utility. Can we teleport those we don't have room for back to the city?
