Welcome back to Civilization: Lizardfolk!

A new day dawns upon the bustling camp of the Mosstooth tribe. Within the deep jungle, situated around a swollen, rushing river. It is an odd sight, to be sure. The main population is a type of green lizardfolk, of a relatively short green variety. Well suited to the jungle, they blend in to the local foliage easily and seem quite at home, whether in their small corner of civilization or in the wild.

That is not the odd sight, however. The oddity is the other occupants working in concert with the lizardfolk. Winged women glide about, though their maneuverability seems to be severely hampered by the heavy rain pounding the area. Finally, there are two giant humanoids aiding in heavy lifting and other matters.

What shall be done now, Mosstooth?

From the previous thread:
>The forge has begun, under Brin'Gor's guidance, a basic structure has been erected near the river. The tribe also has gathered specific minerals to be used in the forge's creation as well. This process is split with the shaman's other attentions, which slows it down slightly.

>Forge: 40%

>The shaman repeats the process of the previous day, finding two more harpies incapable of learning the shamanistic arts. This process drones on for quite some time, and more incenses and herbs are used in the process. Only six harpies remain to be tested.

Continue work on the forge and looking for a suitable harpy sage
>>
>>36494276
Continue with the forge building, and harpy magic.

Did Quillock's group that travelled to the Giant's camp return yet?
>>
While we wait for people to filter in, here's a question. How does everyone feel about me making a stratified tech tree? However, the tribe would only be aware of the immediate techs that they qualify for and I would still allow suggested techs, though they would have to fit into the current scheme and technology level.

>>36494529
Not yet.
>>
>>36494574
Yeah, that sounds like a good idea, just so we can know what we're able to do.
>>
>>36494574
A limited-view tech tree would be good, I think. Especially if there are surprises. I love surprises.

It seems to be another relatively slow day for the tribe. The forge's structure has been fully erected and the minerals required have been fully harvested. There is simply one more object required for the use of the forge: a focus for the fire magic to use as a catalyst. Brin'Gor says it will take some time and work to find this object and bond it to the forge.

>Forge (60%)

The search for a suitable harpy shaman seems to be moving at the rate of a snail. Only one harpy is able to be tested this day, and again, she is found unsuitable for the training process.

Near the end of the day, a winged shadow passes over camp. Those outside catch sight of a darkened draconic figure circle the cammp twice, far above, before heading off to the west. One of the harpies report that she thinks it was a green dragon. This causes some minor unrest in camp, though there isn't much they can do with this information currently.

The rest of the day goes by without any major event, as does the night. The next day begins. What shall the Mosstooth do today?
>>
>>36495020
So 5 harpies left to test. I'd say we're nearly donw with the forge so focus on that. AndSince there are so few harpies left that as well.

Unless someone else can think of soemthing better.

Same as before. No reason to freeze our plans just because a dragon was flying about.

This day is much better on the forge front. A suitable focus is found by a lizardfolk scavenging for some extra food: a tarnished geode. Brin'Gor declares it suitable for his purposes and begins the ritual of bonding immediately. Before long, the forge flares to life with a heat unlike any other felt by the tribesmen of the Mosstooth.

>Forge: Complete!

Unfortunately, the harpies continue to fail before whatever ritualistic test Brin'Gor puts them under. He mutters something about an inner fire whenever a harpy fails his tests, but never describes the quality in detail. Two more harpies fail this day, with three remaining to be tested.

FULL HARPY SHAMAN.

We may be better served going full on most actions, to get it over and to do it well.
>>
>>36495413
Try and do some more Harpy Shamaning, then can we send a some lizardfolk out on the smaller boats to scout out the river south of us. Can't hurt knowing more of our surrounds.
>>

I second these ideas.

The tribe seems to be walking in a metaphorical circle, because the giant shaman declares all but one harpy unsuitable for fire shamanism. It appears that tomorrow will determine whether or not the tribe shall have its own fire bird.

The tribe also sends a quartet of lizardfolk downriver, to the south, to determine what may exist there. They have a number of difficulties navigating the unfamiliar river in the boats, and they find little to nothing in the immediate southwestern area, before returning late into the evening.
>>
>>36495793
At the morning, the tribe, worried by their leader's extended absence, sends one of the failed harpies to check on his status. Near the end of the day, the harpy returns and replies that Quillock appears to be attempting to integrate his 'colonization' group with the giant camp. They appear to accepted his leadership, though they don't seem to be meshing well with their new allies.

Finally! Upon the final day possible, Brin'Gor finds a suitable initiate in the final harpy to be tested! He declares her his student, and states she will begin training immediately! The harpy's reaction to this is rather confused, as she never expected to pass the test considering how all her sisters failed. She follows through though, for the better of the tribe.

The scouting party sent out today makes landfall on the bank directly south of the camp. The news they return with is... dull. It appears that nothing is interesting about this area on the surface. There seems to be less trees in the area?
>>
>>36496250
I assume the harpy's training will be automatic from now on.

Given the fact we've seen dragons inventing some kind of more advanced ranged weapon might help. And begin damming the river.
>>
>>36496308
I say we begin making metal tool, enough for the whole tribe. By investing in our infrastructure we can outgrow our competitors. After we make the tools then we can look at pottery and masonry.
>>
>>36496308
Yes dam the river. And maybe get our druid to start growing some large willow/cypress trees because water-bound trees are going to be helpful for our harpy friends.
>>
>>36496250
Try to get stoneboars included more and learn basket weaving or pottery
>>
>>36496339
Let's build the tools before damming the river so the construction goes faster. Then absolutely
>>
>>36496358
What is a stoneboar?
>>
Guys, you don't have the materials to forge metal weapons. Your tribe has never even mined before. You could probably reforge the daggers into something, but nothing more than one tribesman could use.
>>
>>36496339
Let's do this then
>>
>>36496308
>>36496339
>>36496534
Ah, sorry, missed this option somehow. Not going to veto it, but your tribe would note that the river has been swelling over the past week, since the rainy season has been going on for quite some time. This provides a danger to you while building and after the flood goes down.
>>
>>36496571
Might be best to wait until after rainy season then. Let's study pottery, basket weaving, and masonry then.
>>
>>36496424
The stonebore is the name of the giants tribe that we took over. I don't know if we need to actively vote to increase inclusion since its at 40% right now.
>>
>>36496610
It's increasing passively.
>>
>>36496610
Ahh, right
>>
>>36496623
Okay got it. Then my vote is for pottery or basket weaving and to go monkey hunting.
>>

Taking this and running with it. Going to have to close after this though. Have a Calculus III test in the morning that I decided to remember at the worst possible time. In reparation for this incredibly short and boring thread, I will attempt to have a workable tech tree available by Wednesday, which will be our next thread date.

Upon the realization that until their wayward camp is completely integrated into the tribe, their burgeoning growth is checked, the Mosstooth turn inward, attempting to develop some sort of civil objects with which to carry small objects. Obviously, the first objects thought of are pots and baskets. The issue is in the creation of such objects.

The tribe does quite well, though Brin'Gor and his giants seem to keep to themselves and the shaman's new initiate, who is seen learning a small number of runes inscribed in the earth. Pottery comes naturally to the lizardfolk, as the forge makes firing the pots much easier than it had previously. Basketweaving is a bit more difficult, as the materials aren't readily available and require a bit more work, relatively.

Research: Pottery (51%)
Research: Basketweaving: (20%)

The day is quiet, aside from the droning of the rain on the huts and other buildings, along with the muted conversation of the twenty individuals remaining in camp, after the away group and farm groups, along with the sentries and tribesman maintaining the weirs.

Thanks for playing everyone. I'll still be checking the thread periodically. Here's a few questions for you:

What does the tribe call the jungle? The spirits? The world?

What is their current philosophy? Do they have one? Their outlook on outsiders? The races they have encountered?

In the future, what niche technologies would you like to see in use? How long of a time scale do you see optimally for this civ, between 'ages'?
>>
>>36496918
you're already done?
>>
>>36497007
Yeah.
>>36496710
Not happy about it.
>>
>>36496918
Short but fun!

>What does the tribe call the jungle? The spirits? The world?
K'aax(Mayan for jungle)
Alux(Mayan for spirits)
Nekoti(I like how it sounds)

>What is their current philosophy? Do they have one? Their outlook on outsiders? The races they have encountered?
I'll post more on this Wed, but the idea being that while we are warriors we were never meant to just live off hunting and gathering. Trade is good. Work smarter, not harder. That includes playing nice with others.
I think the harpies should full on become our second female gender. Those are ours, no matter what we stick with them.

>In the future, what niche technologies would you like to see in use? How long of a time scale do you see optimally for this civ, between 'ages'?
Chinampas
Obsidian use
Druid magic for construction
Huge architecture and I don't know
>>
>>36496918
>The races they have encountered?
They view the harpies as a mutually beneficial partnership, considering the strengths that both groups have. Maybe one day will want to integrate them into the tribe proper, though idk how much more integrated you can get if you're breeding with them.

Not so sure bout the giant's yet, see how Quillock goes with the integration.

>In the future, what niche technologies would you like to see in use?
I like the idea of a sity spanning the river with canals and bridges and happy little lizardfolk kids playing in the water overlooked by massive stone towers. And harpies flying between the towers. And idk the giants are being giants somewhere. So everything required to get to that.
