LAST TIME....

Grey, Dani, and Erica did some training before hitting the road. We joined them once more at the compound of the Main Ranger Station to the Northwest of Jay City. Grey was greeted by Nick at the gates before healing up his team and calling his mother. The phone call was frosty, but the battle that followed is just heating up...!

>>>>>

Your name is Grey, and your Squirtle, Sheldon, has just defeated a Fennekin in the first of a series of fights. 3 Pokemon on your team versus 3 on Nick's. One at a time, no switching, and each round sees a fresh Pokemon from each side. Best 2 out of three.

You watch, silently, as your Squirtle takes a few deep breaths before settling down onto all four legs. He shakes his head, gurgling and squawking a bit, before turning to look at you. You wave before raising his Netball up, hitting the “Return” and sending out a beam, the point of which lights upon Sheldon’s head. A second later and there is a flash of light as the material composition of the Squirtle himself is turned into energy and “sucked” back into the ball.

You look at the smooth surface, running your thumb over the blue and black surface fondly. You then point the ball down and to your left and, with another flick of your thumb, release him again. Another flash and Sheldon reappears, body tensed and eyes blinking.

He shakes some water off of his body before turning to you and gurgling. You smile at the little guy and watch as he takes a few, small steps towards you.

You bend down and scratch the tiny soft spot behind his lower jaw. This elicits more gurgling and what could only be called a “smile,” if Squirtles can even do that.

>You did great, Sheldon.
>I’ll get you a treat when this is over.
>Go play with Dani now, okay?

Hello and welcome to both of you. Glad to see some friendly faces.

I'm going to let this vote hang for a bit (maybe get a couple more people). However, I would also like to get a verification about your choice for the next Pokemon you'll be sending out.

I saw some discussion about:

>Apollo
>Nereid
>Maybe Bonnie?

Feel free to discuss/make suggestions/ask questions. The battle will be 3 on 3, and if you win the next round you clench it.
>>
>>36565215
Eh next up is Apollo who fought like his polar opposite, He can watch with Dani if he wants. Little guys earned some fun.
>>
>>36565215

Apollo, he's strong fast and has Overheat for a trump.

I am now imagining all your Pokemon wearing baseball caps.

Clearly, we must have a sports day episode soon. After karaoke.

This basically. It's unlikely that his next pokemon will be resistant to fire, and to be honest, even if he did send out a fish next I imagine overheat would just cook it.

>Redoing that with the correct trip and stuff....

“You did great, Sheldon.” You rub his head, smiling and chuckling a bit as he sorts of shimmies into it. Then, a little cat starts nuzzling into your right leg in a bid to get some attention herself. You use your other hand to rub her behind the ears as well.

Now you have a gurgling turtle and a purring kitten fighting for you attention, and it’s fantastic; unfortunately, you have a battle to get back to. You usher Sheldon over towards the sidelines, plopping your cap on his head and then pointing towards Dani. He wiggles his little tail as he waddles over, turning around and looking back at you every so often. You just keep pointing towards Dani and waving him off until he gets the idea.
Cute little guy.

You motion to Nick who acknowledges you after a moment (he seemed to be thinking deeply about something) and then rolls his shoulders. He sends a wave back, signaling he’s ready.

You reach for Apollo’s ball, but…. Something holds you back. You know he’s tough and capable. He listens to you pretty well, too. Nereid, on the other hand, could use a bit more training; plus, a serious fight might do some good in earning you some respect from her. Damn little weasel.

You and Nick both give the customary salute and signal before tossing your battlers out. You keep this throw shorter this time – while you wanted Sheldon within fighting distance immediately so you wouldn’t have to rely on his slow movement, Nereid can take advantage of distance much better.
Nereid pops out, and….

Hah. You actually have to suppress a giggle. A geodude.

Nick throws his hat on the floor in anger. “How many fucking water types do you have, man?”

>Jokes on you, my whole team is full of flow!

For what it's worth, I greatly dislike Nick. Well, even more so than before. Ignoring the whole Salem thing, he should know that there's a river in this area, and to be prepared for water types. Yet he's pissed because he's unprepared. That bothers me.

You shout back response of “Well, I’d say I have enough to ROCK you!”

Nick seems to scoff a bit before throwing a palm to his face. You can hear Dani laugh, though. You’re not sure if it’s because she has to or she really thought it was funny.

You and Nick both know how this battle will most likely turn out, but might as well get to it. You never know, Nereid might be in one of her moods…

Nick blows a shrill tone on the whistle hanging from his neck and then shouts at “Tripper,” his Geodude, to use mud-slap.

“Nereid! Water gun!”

>73

The Geodude digs its hands into the soil, particles clinging to the attractive surfaces of its arms an-

A cold jet of water hits it in the face, startling it and washing most of the sediment away. There's a bit of foaming and sizzling action before Tripper starts growling and scrabbling with its hands at the oil- and chemical-laced water.

It’s interesting how “type” advantages work. Pokemon were developed in war and, like all human-made weapons were made to counter ever-increasing defensive measures. After Rock-types were introduced early in the war offensive measures had to overcome their hard, rocky exteriors. Pokemon capable of producing chemicals that could eat away at such defenses, or at least get at the undefended parts, were then designed.

You know that right now Nereid is producing a stream of liquid meant to cause damage and, unless you really abused or pissed her off she would never hit you with anything other than water. Yeah, you don't want to be that Geodude right now.

“Tripper! Focus! Mud slap!” Nick tries to get his Geodude, busy trying to wipe off the spray, under control. “Mud slap!”

The Geodude gets a handful of earth and flings it in Nereid’s direction. She, in her eternal curiosity, had wandered a bit closer to it in order to get a clear look at its thrashing. The sloppy attack knocked her off her feet but otherwise she seemed fine.

“Nereid!” The little weasel shakes some more of the dirt out of her fur before craning her neck about to look at you. “Use bubble!”

The little weasel gives some squeaks before bouncing around on all four legs. While her little “dance,” perhaps is cute it’s not exactly what you wanted. Nereid keeps bouncing around, squeaking and chirping while producing sprays of cold, glossy foam in the air and about the field of battle. One of which is projected long enough that you feel a bit of a chill from your position at the end of the field. “Nereid…! Nereid! Use bubble on the Geodude!” You point and try to command her in a stern voice.

It doesn’t work, but the pie of thick, hard clay certainly gets the message across.

Nereid is twisted over on herself while in the middle of one of her bounces after the mud smacks the side of her neck. She shakes it off, thankfully, and then turns to glare at the rocky-looking toad.

“That’s it, Tripper! Hit it again!” Nick seems a little bit happier as he blows on his whistle this time, but it doesn’t last.

>94

Nereid dashes towards the toad as it scoops its arms into the dirt once more. Before it’s able to lift the earth away she crashes into its top half, toppling the Geodude over. Her squeaking and chirping has turned into full on barking and yipping as she nips and bats at Tripper’s features. He tries to bat her off but gets a face full of cold, caustic foam for his troubles. Tripper howls and croaks, arms scrabbling at the Weasel firmly planted on top of him, until he finally just tries rolling over. Nereid hops off at that and then begins circling his unmoving form, yipping and acting all proud and mighty.

Nick returns the Geodude and the Ranger, once again, calls the round in your favor.

This time he adds that you have won the match as well.

>cont.
>>
>>36567031

You and Nick both walk towards one another, you with Mittens at your side.

When you near the center of the field Nereid comes bounding up to you, and you not that the little Weasel looks pleased with herself. You're pleased as well, you admite, and so you scratch at the loose bunch of skin on her neck. She actually nuzzles into it, playfully squeaking and hopping about.

Nick extends his hand with a "good match," and it sounded sincere enough. You take his hand and give a firm shake.

"I was wondering, though... Would you be interested in that third round? My team needs the practice, Grey." You think on that. "Oh, and, I was going to use a Turtwig. Maybe you could not pull type advantage this time?"

He rubs at his nose with a finger and rolls his eyes. "You know, no need to completely punch me in the face every time we meet."

>"Good match to you to, yeah."
>"The match would have gone better if you weren't so rough on your Pokemon. Sometimes you have to know when to quit."

Actually no, changing my mind >>36567205
Let's send out Bonnie after all, she could use the training and his turtwig probably doesn't know any strong grass moves yet. Maybe leech seed or something.

“Yeah, we could do that. I’ll use Mittens here, alright?” You motion to your Espurr and Nick nods in assent while eyeing Mittens carefully. “Good match to you too, by the way.”

Nick gives a “thanks” before turning around to walk towards his starting position. You call after him.

“Hey, can I ask you something first?” He turns and nods. “It was a good match but… I have some friendly advice, I guess, if you’ll hear it?”

“Sure? What’s up?”

“The match would have been better if you weren’t so hard on your Pokemon; both your Fennekin and your Geodude. They didn’t have to suffer so much. Maybe you should have called it earlier?”

He shrugs a bit, before crossing his arms behind his head. “Yeah, I guess.” He sighs. “It’s easy to say that when you win, though.”

“And it’s easy to say that when you’re not the one being hit out there.”

“Hey, I understand, alright? I get it.” He takes one of his Pokeballs and looks at it, unamused. “I know it’s not Salem’s fault. It’s not Tripper’s fault, either; it’s mine. I didn’t train them good enough.” He turns back to you. “They need stronger training partners; you know, like maybe someone that’s in the top 5?”

You shrug. “Yeah?”

“Right, well that’s why I wanted to travel with you. I’m gonna train with you until I beat you. And type advantage won’t save you every time.”

You laugh a bit. “Who said you’re coming along?”

“Just shut up and battle.”

>>>>

You’re at the starting places once more after explaining the situation to Dani and Erica. They both headed inside to grab something to eat, but the Ranger – turns out his name is Matthew, or Math for short – stayed out to watch. He claimed that guard watch duty was boring around these parts.

You and Nick once again salute each other before sending out your starters – his a male Turtwig, yours a female Espurr. Time to really show him what you can do.

You know that Mittens’s strongest asset is her ability to mentally attack. Furthermore, getting up close with a grass-type defender like Turtwig isn’t in your best interests. Best to probe it’s abilities from a distance, first.

You shout aloud instead of communicating mentally in the hopes that you might give Nick a bit more of a shot this time. “Mittens, use confusion!” You watch as your little Espurr tenses her body and bows her head.

“Sonny, use vine whip!” The Turtwig lowers itself towards the ground, roots and vines extending from its back and into the earth. You know that it will be sending those tendrils outwards towards Mittens in an attempt to strike at and immobilize her. Gotta keep mobile, then.

“Mittens, move towards me!” She stays still for but a moment more before snapping back to attention and then scampering away on all fours. You watch the Turtwig and, sure enough, it starts thrashing its head around and twitching a bit. Its eyes roll around its head a bit.

Nick curses and then brings out his whistle, blowing on it once more. The Turtwig seems able to focus on the noise, growling and shaking its head before focusing on the vines once more. Unfortunately for it, however, Mittens has moved away.

“Mittens, use confusion again!”

Mittens lashes out with her mind once more, the Turtwig bellowing and crying out as the mental attacks resume. This doesn’t stop the undergrowth it has started, though, and you watch as little tips of hair-like roots begin to poke from the soil around Mittens.

You mutter a “Crap…!” to yourself before telling Mittens to throw up a “Reflect! Now!”

>53

The purple cat looks down at the roots creeping about near her feet, hissing a bit before swiping at one. Unfortunately, this just serves to give the plant sensory input with which to locate Mittens.

A vine shoots out of the ground, striking Mittens in the leg. She hisses and growls in pain before dashing away from the vine. It tries to follow her, snaking along the ground as more roots pop up around the ground Mittens has passed over. One particularly thick root trips her, and she tumbles along the ground.

“Reflect!” you’re shouting with both body and mind, now. Urging her to focus and protect herself. “Use reflect like with Sheldon!”

That seems to reach her, and Mittens throws her paws forward. A transparent wall of force appears, which the vine strikes. Mittens watches in slight fear as the vine beats against the wall.

You look over, away from where Mittens lay and at her foe. It seems Nick has gotten the Turtwig under control again. It is looking woozy, but it is planting more vines in the ground.

“Shit.”

“Mittens..!”

“Mittens busy, TrainerGrey!”

You watch as the Espurr dodges incoming attacks from the vines, leaping to and fro or ducking under slashes and strikes. One comes after her flank, and you’re about to warn her when another Reflect appears behind her, severing the vine in two.

“Thanks, TrainerGrey!”

“W-what? I didn’t do anything!”

“Mittens read mind! Mittens see vine!”

Ah. Well, that would do it.

“Listen, Mittens: You need to get in close and knock the Turtwig out. You can’t last like this – not in bright sunlight. You don’t have enough energy!” Mittens bats aside another vine before answering. They're slowly overtaking her and scratching at her arms and legs or swiping at her legs. She needs to get out of there.

“What Mittens should do?”

"Psywave."

<Happening intensifies>
>>
>>36570455

You tell her to use the Psywave, and just give it everything she’s got. She expresses concern about your safety and that of Nick’s but you tell her it will be fine. You’re far enough away and, besides, you believe in her.

This seems to ignite a small fire in the Espurr, who ducks under a vine and takes off towards the Turtwig. Nick, surprised, commands Sonny to “get ready for a Bite,” and the Turtwig digs itself into the earth, mouth glowing ominously. This doesn’t faze Mittens, however, who begins glowing herself.

Her ears take on a purple hue and begin twitching as she gathers up the necessary energy. A vine erupts from the ground to her right, whipping out and then lashing towards her right forearm. She takes a corner, pushing off to the left with all four legs. Another vine tracks her movements, moving upwards and then arcing down towards her back. You watch as the thin, thorny tendril nears your Partner’s form before stopping suddenly, as if hitting a wall.

Mittens managed to create another Reflect, and she turns in the air as it dissipates; facing the sky, she then throws her paws outwards and releases the mental storm contained between her ears. You watch as the 6 or so vines around her are driving away as if on the edge of some concussive ripple.

Mittens falls to the ground, landing on her feet, and a second later Sonny is hit by the psywave. He keels over onto his right side, then wobbling towards his left before crying out and collapsing in a heap. You wait for a similar hit on your own mind and… There. A feeling of unease, confusion, anger, hysteria… Your sense jump around a bit, and you wobble before falling onto your ass.

Thankfully, it soon passes, and you remain conscious this time, thankfully.

You slowly get to your feet, watching the metaphorical "dust settle," and you see that Mittens stands in the midst of a pile of withered vines. Sonny is collapsed, and Nick seems to be nursing a headache on the floor.

>cont.
>>
>>36570517

Mittens is announced the winner, and you collect her sweating, panting form. She has a few scratches and nicks on her fur, and seems plenty exhausted, but is otherwise alright. Nothing a run through the MedCenter won’t fix.

Nick walks over, shaking your hand for a final time and saying that Mittens fought well. Dani and Erica congratulate you, and Erica says that Sonny did well.

The Ranger, Math, gives you a resounding slap on the back and then ruffles Mittens’s hair. "Well I gotta say that was quite a show, Sortie. Thought you cupcakes were gonna have a bit of a slap-fight and call it a day; but this? This was a show!" He whistles through his teeth as he claps (sarcastically?) at you and Nick. Nick just gives a sneer and a shrug while holding his forehead. You wave the Ranger off with a smile.

"I mean, I can see why you think you're ready to hunt some damn Scythers!" You look up at that, about to say something when he interrupts. "Hey, hey. I understand."

"I'm gonna help ya."

You ask after Nick’s Pokemon, and he assures you that they’ll be fine after a trip to the MedCenter. Then you offer that “it was a good final round. Sonny had Mittens on the ropes, and I’ve always been confident in her abilities.” Nick thanks you, stating that it was pretty good. Sonny’s gotten a lot better, apparently.

You talk with Dani and Erica about the match a bit while you walk back to the main compound building. Dani says that all of your Pokemon did great, and Erica agrees. Erica even asks about training with you sometime. You agree, and then turn your attention to the Ranger.

“So you’re Matthew, right?”

“Ah please, call me Math, mate! But, yeah, that’s me! Finest Rangah an’ Scyther huntah in these parts, if I dare say so, mate!” Ah, yeah, “mate.” You thought his accent was a little funny.

“Are… Sorry if this is rude, but are you imitating the Croconaw Hunter?” It’s kinda funny watching the Ranger going from confident braggadocio to, well, normal.

“Hey, dude, come’on.” His voice returns to a normal accent for Southern Shores, and his giant, beaming grin turns into a bit of a frown. “Why’a gotta ruin my fun?”

You laugh a bit, and Dani speaks up next to you. “So are you really the best ‘Scytha huntah,’ or was that an act too?” He shrugs and starts walking toward the compound. You collect Mittens and Sheldon and head that was as well. “Aren’t you supposed to help people as, well, part of your job?”

He turns to Dani and just waves her off. “Nah, it wasn’t an act. Completely. I mean, I’ve done it before.” He sighs. “I know what I’m talking about, alright? And it’s not my job to babysit a bunch of Sorties – but I’d rather you all not get yourselves killed. I mean, what was your plan, anyways?”

>Well? What was your plan?
>>
>>36571252
Well I have a box, a stick, a carrot, and some string.....
>>
>>36571252
Uhhh wasn't it to track the pack and try and ambush some stragglers then once that fails just bat our way through with Apollo...I didn't initially agree to this so I'll take more of a back set in this...
>>
>>36571252
The plan was to get some idea of their location. Begin tracking them, observe the group from a distance and attempt to leads individuals from the group and take them out with our team and capture them. We figured taking the pack on was a very bad idea.
>>
>>36571352

>>36571252
Have my Growlithe track the pack to the general area wait for one or two to get far enough away I could jump them with him my fletchling and some others rinse and repeat. If things went south have him pop his smokescreen or overheat while my Buizel throws up some mist.

>>36571252
Are ant of the SyctherNao anons here...the ones that atleast kind sounded like they knew what they were doing...
>>
>>36571597
Doesn't look like it, maybe if the rangers say hey kid that's a dumb idea we can hit Jay city for gym and supplies first.
>>
>>36571720
Eh, I'm a ScytherNao anon, I don't know how else you'd take down a pack of dangerous animals/pokemon than to lure a single one or small group of them away from the group and deal with them individually.
>>
>>36571587

“Well, mate” you put a lot of emphasis on that last word, “I had intended to get this string, and a carrot, and a box. And I mean, it’s a really big box!”

“Hardy har, smartass.” He opens the door to the main compound, and everyone shuffles in after him. Dani offers to take your Pokemon up to the nurse, and you thank her before handing over your belt. Erica offers to grab Nick’s, to everyone’s surprise, and he hands her his team before joining in on your conversation with Math.

“Really, though? I had intended on tracking them and trying to isolate one. I don’t want to take on the whole pack, you know? Either find a loner or get it alone somehow. Then, I have a fire-type that is very reliable. He should be able to keep it busy, and my two water-types will be good for defense or running interference. I have a fletchling and a sandslash but I need to get to know them a bit, first.” You plop down onto a ratty old couch in the main foyer. Nick sits at the opposite end, and Math takes a seat in an old red armchair. Your thoughts roll over some contingencies…

“Oh, and I made sure to learn some smokescreen-ing or defensive moves. If I can lure one in I think enough surprise force could definitely take it down. What do you think?”

>cont.
>>
>>36571967

Math seems to mull it over a bit, biting at his lip and knuckling his brow in thought. “Eh, I mean. You’re better prepared than most, yeah. You’ve thought about it – but you’re lacking experience I guess?”

You shrug and Nick pipes in with a “What do you mean? If we prepare enough and find a loner we’ll be fine, yeah?”

Math shakes his head and closes his eyes, smiling to himself. “Nah, see, you’ve never seen a Scyther rip a man to shreds. Or even just a corpse!” The chuckle that comes after that is dark. “Yeah, it sounds cool… but the first time I saw a pack of them chase down a few Grotle, and then they cornered one at the watchtower I was at? It was vicious, man. They tore that thing to shred. I can still smell the blood.”

"What I'm saying is that you don't go looking for'em or picking a fight on their turf. That's just stupid. You lure one away? It'll call for help."

Alright, yeah…

“I mean, we can do it – Rangers do it; we deal with them often enough. They like to nest around here so we try to push them northwards or westwards. Happens a couple times a year. The thing is, YOU don’t track SCYTHERs.”

“Scythers track you.”

You actually shudder a bit. The way he said that, and the hollow look in his eyes… Yeah, you believe it. It sounds intense.

Good. That’s exactly what you want.

“Alright, so what are you suggesting?”

“We lure one or two in; a usual scouting party.” He starts making motions with his hands, illustrating a scene of two figures entering a boxed-in area. “they have a tendency to happen around the main power lines, and the area is plenty clear enough ‘side from trees on either side of the lane. "

"We hang around the utility tower, where we have some safety and high ground, and when they come around we surprise them and scare one off or incapacitate all of ‘em in one shot.”

“Okay, sure… but how do we know they’ll come?”

“Simple:

-We bait’em.”

Apollo had better get his best overheat ready then. Also, ADVENTURE TIME!
>>
The rest of the night is open for questions and concerns, as always.

Thank you for participating! I hope you guys enjoyed this some! I had fun. The story feels like it's moving again, and Scythers are right around the corner!
>>
>>36571999
Oh man...here we go guys...it's finally happening, but we should definitely put a little practice in with Phoenicia and Bonnie...with some of the moves it looks like she can learn (Fire Bomb and Soot Spray) Phoeninia would be a big help in the upcoming fight...
>>
>>36572107
I'm enjoying it too Herald, thanks for running. So we'll be basically baiting the bugs to get into one area so we can Fire bomb them right? Will that be one move per pokemon fitting the 2x damage statute or just one shot with one pokemon? Cause with Salem, Appollo, Driver and Phoenicia we have at least 4 mons with ranged attacks that deal 2x damage.
>>
>>36572107
Thanks again Herald...Great thread today...
>>
>>36572159

>I hope that everyone understands that I'm not trying to be too difficult or an ass, to start with.

1) Yes. You will be baiting them and then ambushing.
2) Every Pokemon you carefully assign to hitting them/ambushing them is going to "get an attack" if you will and each attack added will compound the damage done. If this works correctly/perfectly it will be over and done ASAP. No extended combat. One big strike.

3) Yes, those Pokemon all have some degree of type advantage.

4) HOWEVER, I want you guys to think carefully about how you will be using them / who you put in the line of fire. Consider this carefully, as there could be consequences.

As with everything in this endeavor, be careful. Think of all the shit that could happen.
>>
>>36572107
Thanks for running Herald!

Ya know, these Scyther sound a lot like grizzly bears...
>>
>>36572367
He said they are basically velociraptors armed with wings and scythes anon.

>>36572305
I figured this'd be too much too soon after you warned us the second time, but everyone wants Scythers nao! If we lose someone or get TPK'd I understand, thems the breaks.
>>
>>36572305
Understood...then we definitely want to train up Bonnie and Phoenicia as they should be crucial...
>>36572468
Hey I didn't agree at first but I think we got a shot especially if Nick and the Ranger are helping, just gotta be prepare, cautious, and alert in the field...
>>
>>36572576
...not roll a crit fail, pray they fall for the trap, and hope that they don't have a Scissor as a pack lead.
>>
Guys, if we actually catch one how likely is it to actually listen to us? Maybe we should just nick a scyther egg from a nest or something, train it from birth
>>
>>36572672
Not very likely but players ignored that cause Scyther Nao! syndrome. A nest would be great but going into a nest of homicidal Insectoid raptors with wings and scythes sounds like a bad idea.
>>
>>36572624
I always thought of Scissor as loners...
>>36572672
That sounds like a really reallyy bad idea anon...
>>
>>36572672
>how likely is it to actually listen to us
Considering pokeballs alter pokemon to make them receptive to training and shit, I'd say its completely likely.
>>
>>36572726
Well I never thought of Scythers as raptors either, but if they are wouldn't the biggest baddest, fastest and meanest lead? Scissors can stomp scythe really easily in a pack fight.

>>36572745
Maybe but Neried still tries to water gun us and act like a scamp because she still thinks poorly of us. Hell she didn't follow order til that geodude hit her with mud. A Scyther that hates or ahs deep seated mistrust of humans would be like Ash's Charizard minus the non lethal flames bit.
>>
>>36572801
In the show Scyther did live in packs with and alpha Scyther leading...
>>36572801
It'll take time like any other thing...and we'll definitely have to be more cautious with training it...but we do have Mittens to help...
>>
>>36572911
True but we'll have to have Apollo on hand as well, cause Mittens can't take it down if it decides to try and kill us.
>>
>>36572801
Neried's nature is Naughty anon. If you haven't noticed our pokemon's personalities are fairly in line with their natures. Neried for instance is being playful because thats how she is, not because she thinks "poorly of us."

Additionally, we've still only trained her what...? Once? Twice? I think you are making assumptions that you don't really have enough information to make
>>
>>36572941
Agreed...
>>
>>36572951
Mittens said Nereid didn't think well of us after we got her out of the ball. Mittens had to slap the taste out of her mouth to get her to behave. She just straight out ignored us in her fight because "hey he's weak and I don't have to listen to him, imam go have fun!" If that geodude had waited she'd have ring outted herself running around. Scythers are scary and notoriously bloodthirsty and killy, training one is going to be a bitch.
>>
>>36573027
I think your being a little harsh on her, she just needs more training, shes young...and yes it'll most likely be hard to train a Scyther but very rewarding...
Plus we gotta be the very best...
>>
>>36573142
Yeah but we need to be careful, Mittens follows us because we're the first human who actively looks out for her. Apollo follows us because we're Mittens trainer and we helped him figure out overheat and other attacks to make him stronger. Sheldon follows because we scratch that spot on his neck perfectly and he ahs nothing better to do, plus free food. Nereid still doesn't respect us, Phoenicia is still scared shitless of us, and we haven't gotten a read on Bonnie yet. Getting offed by a scythe after we caught it because it hates humans would suck so hard.
>>
>>36572305
Hey, Herald, any advice for someone who wants to run a quest in the future? I'd ask /qtg/, but they're /qtg/ and you're one of the best currently active QMs.
>>
>>36573222
That's why I think we should do a good session of training before heading out...if nothing more let them know what we're heading into...but I'd prefer more than that...
>>
>>36573325
Same here. I wanted to hit Jay city and the gym there get more loots and supplies, hit up the prof then get these guys after we had a more solid 6 mon line up. Oh well we're here now.

>>36572305
How many days til we lose out on the week 1 bonus Herald?
>>
>>36573370
I would have preferred the gym first as well but the votes were counted, we just gotta do our best to help rather than drag everyone down with constant disagreeing...
>>
>>36573497
Yup. Train up Get our mons to like us then hammer those scythers as hard as possible. Scorched earth if necessary.
>>
>>36573277
Well, there are a few different things to consider. First, what is your schedule like on s daily basis and also long term? If you don't have a lot of time to devote then consider doing something small, like a slice of life story arc or exploring a dungeon depending on if you focus on social or combat.

Then, consider the settings (existing or original) that you are interested in. Take your second favorite and run a few threads in it to get some experience. If you have fun then, well, awesome. If it sucks then try again. Once you get over your fear then run your favorite setting.

>cont
>>
>>36573222
I honestly feel like we aren't really on the same page regarding pokemon. As far as I was aware, their 'loyalty' has a lot more to do with inbred genetic loyalty and their natural state of not being hostile to humans unless they are being threatened by one.
Ultimately they follow us because we are their trainer and they are genetically programmed to do so. Thats how I've seen it things so far. Don't get me wrong, if we treated them roughly/badly I expect they wouldn't like us, but that they would still obey us due to their programming, provided we didn't actually hurt them.

Anyway, I would actually like a clarification on this, if Herald wouldn't mind. It actually does make a difference.
>>
>>36573565

The important thing is to play to your strengths. If you're wordy like me then let the word vomit flow. Diarca doesn't do word vomit but is a great qm to read for a longer, more epic style. READ TOTEMIST QUEST. Seriously, I think its one of the best quests. Much better than pss.

archelon usually has shorter updates and focuses on characters. It's like a slice of life anime. both of his quests show how short updates can be worked well.

In either case, it shows that knowing your setting is important. Also, don't count on anons being interested in your characters and setting. This isn't an insult: anons only have so much time and attention. They are people. You have to give them action and plot. Characters IN A VACUUM SUCK. Throw your characters into dialogue, action, experiences, etc. Give anons important choices beyond "right or left."

Pokemon are genetically more predisposed than regular animals were/are to be relatively social, enjoy battle, be more intelligent, etc. They actually tend to the environment collectively (though that's mostly grass and water types).
Pokemon will respect trainers that capture them and see strong, to a degree. This isn't because they are human or their trainer but because they respect that power. You can be strong, abusive, and be listened to. But when you show weakness you might be killed. Dragons act like this a lot.
Nereid actually has started to respect you. She's naughty, though. She didn't see the point in hitting the silly rock because it wasn't bothering her. She underestimated it, because she is a weasel and pretty young. She will grow.
A scyther will be tough to handle, a bit, but if you capture one I won't have it just kill you. It will have been trained in the ball to recognize you and want to please you some. This is subject to in story realities but this is what grey expects.

I will try and answer more on my actual computer.

I'm surprised you asked about booking a challenge. I did not expect you guys to see that possibility.

Yes, it could potentially be an issue. I wasn't going to screw you guys over but now that you asked I would recommend giving them a call. They shouldn't have a problem getting you a spot because of your rank. Dani too. Erica may have some trouble.

It will take about half a day to get into the city proper.
