You and your friends stand motionless for a few minutes in the statue garden of the shinto temple, transfixed by what little Yasuka Momoko has shown you. A perfectly spherical, glass-like sphere with a kind of swirling, clouded energy emanating from within. You recognise what it is, and have a feeling both she and Robo do as well. Tanakawa Shun and Yasuka Umeki, on the other hand, still seem a little confused.

"That's a nice, uh, ball you got there." Shun awkwardly comments, scratching her head. In reality, she has encountered one of these before but probably doesn't remember the event. Robo decides to clue her in.

"That is an unbound focus, and it has the power to turn an ordinary creature into a mahou shoujo." He clarifies, gesturing to the orb in Momo's tiny hands. Shun is taken aback and Umeki gasps.

"No way... so, we could use this thing to make another magical girl? That's great!" She turns to you, fists pumped. "With this you won't even have to worry about beating up another girl to get an ally, we can just purify it here and pop in on someone. Maybe I could even get my power back!" She suggests. Robo shakes his chibi robot body's head.

"You already have a focus, so you can't have this one bound to you. The same goes for Momo, which is why she's able to hold it. The only one here who would classify would be Umeki-san." He states. Umeki begins to sweat, and points to herself.

"M-Me?" Robo nods, but then immediately wrings his metallic fists.

"But we can't do that. It would be incredibly irresponsible to force this power onto someone. Kiryoka, I humbly request you let me place this in storage." He asks with a respectful tone. Shun pouts, putting a hand on his head.

"What is it with you and crippling your friends? What's so bad about being a magical girl anyway?" She asks angrily, tapping on his head.

Also, there is another way of looking at this. True, Robosan can put it in storage, but wouldn't it be better to have someone take it, purify them if necessary and retrieve it; that way the focus becomes unusable by anyone else anymore even if for some reason it ends up on Earth again.

As far as we know, the corruption is emotionally linked, but not necessarily singular, right? It doesn't just have to be one emotion like it has been so far? I'm curious what would happen to Saito if we magical girlify him. Agression? Lust for Minako? JUSTICE? some combination?

You can only sigh as the two bicker. Instead of intervene immediately, you kneel down and to get a better look at the little orb. You realise it's not actually glass, but the opaque shine really seems to appear that way. It seems so fragile to you becuase of that, but these things did come down in a meteor shower initially. Momo shakes the ball, wondering if the colours and energy inside will shake like a snowglobe. It doesn't seem to work, and she sighs. You smile and stand back up.

"Regardless of whether we should, it belongs to Momo, right?" You suggest. Shun has Robo in a headlock right now, which is a little pointless considering he can't breathe, and is hoisting him off the ground.

"Argh, perhaps, but it's far too dangerous to just leave lying around or in her possession." Robo comments, trying to free himself. His tiny arms can't manage it though.

"I'll be careful with it." Momo pipes up, clutching the orb tightly. "You can trust me."

"It's not a matter of trust, it's..." Robo states to lecture, but then notices her face, crumpled up in a pouty, almost-crying face. He flinches, and you the glowing eyes in his visor glance away. "...a matter of safety, we can't leave it here."

"Oh come on!" Shun complains, gripping Robo's body tighter. Again, this has no effect other than slightly annoying him. "She gets to keep the random ball she found in the woods and my one is still stuck on your damn ship?" You can hear her teeth grinding as she strangles him.

"Well," you start to speak, "Is it really?" The two glance at you when you suggest this. You swallow. "I mean, it was dangerous at first, but since then we've fought other girls and been fine. Yui has good control over Strict now, and if I can purify Shimada we might be up to a fighting force of three. Whatever Shun's powers, I should think three trained mahou shoujo could handle it." Your arguments seem to hit home and Shun smiles. You can see Robo's eyes twitch though. He crosses his arms and looks away.

"Argh... Look, if I allow Shun access to her focus, will you drop these incessant questions?" He asks finally, which surprises you somewhat. Considering how adamant he's been about this, his reasons for withholding her focus must be more important that the withholding itself.

"Hey, what's it called?" Shun interrupts, leaning over your shoulder. Robo halts and glances at her.

"Called?"

"Yeah, like Yui has Strict and Momo had Vital, so what's mine called?" She asks excitedly.

"I can't be sure. Usually the focus is named by it's owner subconsciously. You should know it already." He states. Shun pouts.

"Yeah well I can't remember anything about it."

"That is... odd, but I suppose you only had access to it for a short time. Memory loss after corruption is common." Robo stops for a moment. "Oh, that reminds me, Makoto, could you please try and purify this one?" He suggests. You nod and walk over to Momo. She hands you the orb gladly and you flex your powers to detect corruption.

There does indeed appear to be corruption in the focus, but it seems very stable, not like the random and chaotic nature of corruption in a live mahou shoujo. Almost seems like it belongs there when it's like this.

You reach into the orb with your powers, extending your influence and quashing the darkness that lies within. Like this, the corruption is actually harder to destroy, having no emotional power with which to easily consume it. If destroying active corruption was like walking through water, this would be trudging through thick mud. Eventually, though, you feel it start to ebb away, leaving only the pure focus behind.

Satisfied with the job, you hand it back to Momo with a smile. She has an open-mouthed smile as you return it, probably assuming it to be 'blessed by the maiden' or something. Not that far off, you suppose.

"Good, now even if accidentally is bound, we don't have to worry about rogue mahou shoujo." Robo waddles over to Momo to inspect the orb further.

"What about mine?" Shun asks.

"In good time, I can't just pull it out of the station immediately. My storage methods are complex." He responds. Shun glares.

"I'll bet they are..."

Robo walks up to you with another query. "If you're free sometime after today, I may need your help with something in my lab beneath your house. I am in the final stages of my newest frame prototype, and could use a 'human touch'" He asks with air quotes at the end.

You glance up at the sky and see the sun already starting to set. You spent a lot of time faffing about up here, so the day is almost out. Shun yawns and stretches out in the statue garden whilst Momo leads Robo inside. You hear her say something about setting up a pet bed for him. Umeki remains outside, and starts to sweep away some dust and leaves from the garden.

What should you do?

"Yeah, acting as the spirit of the shrine sounds good right now." You answer her.

"Oh good. Since you took care of Momo's monsters, people have started coming back and we've even been rehiring maidens. With you as your mahou shoujo acting as our shrine's kami, it should be sure to bring more people in and we can rebuild our reputation." She explains. Umeki raises a finger. "You might even be able to clarify more about what you want people to think about you."

"Sounds fair." You reply. She nods.

"I'll pay you of course, but other than that please just try not to embarrass the shrine, okay?" She claps her hands together and you agree. She spends some time explaining some things about the shrine and surrounding area to you. The shrine has been here for decades, possibly even centuries, but has been refurbished a lot so barely none of the original foundations remain. The mountain gets hounded by bad weather a lot so things tend to get damaged and replaced. The forest and mountain nearby are considered sacred by the shrine, as are various aspects of japanese mythology. The statues are fairly recent, so she's not sure if they should consider them holy or sacred, that seems like something up to you.

"And lastly... Tadah!" Umeki retrieves you a miko robe, along with a small fox mask from inside the shrine. It seems pretty solid, and made of some kind of ceramic. "I recall you mentioned a mask to hide your face, and I just had this lying around. I used to play with it as a kid, but it might help you out."

"Nice. It should stop people from recognising me at least." You comment, taking the mask. There are a few people milling about at the shrine, but Umeki seems to think a lot of people should arrive in a little while. She goes off to handle some things and you are left to prepare yourself.

Minor characters I'm not going to update too much because they won't do much in the story. Minabuchi is pretty much just a minor swim club character right now, like Yui's two school maids (though if you want to hang out with her, she can promote to side or main. Umeki was originally a minor character), so I'm just leaving it there as a record.

I'll make it more clear how I'm formatting it in the next status update, and probably add some more minor characters you've met.

You feel a slight twinge of stage-fright as you watch them.

You might have been nervous around people initially, but you've grown since then. If you're going to do something, you might as well do the best you can, after all. You take a few steps to the side of the shrine and clear your throat. As you glance down you see a couple of other maidens handling the people, including Shun, clad in her own miko robe. You're not sure why she's flexing her biceps to a small child though. Umeki seems to notice you and nods. She walks over to Shun and the two of them go to introduce you

"Behold, the kami of the shrine has graced us with her presence. It's the Maiden White!" The two girls announces, gesturing to you. At this, you emanate your aura of holy light, bathing your audience in it. You pose, somewhat demurely but with dignity, and wait for a few moments before leaping from the top of the shrine. You land perfectly between Umeki and Shun, sending a small cloud of dust rising up around you that intermixes with your magical light to illuminate the dust like a floodlight. To the worshippers you appear to have literally descended from the heavens in a bright light, and have created a strange mist. They stand in awe of your performance.

"Gheez, if I was any more dramatic I would probably have founded a new religion right here." You think, still keeping your attitude firm. You take a deep breath through the nose and cast a sultry glance at various members of the crowd, your ears twitching as you do so. Your face is obscured by the fox mask, but the expression somehow seems to still be conveyed through your body language.

You state, imitating a calm but firm voice. You actually seem to be imitating Kaa-san when she's serious; that voice always gets your attention, after all. It does the trick in any case, and you are soon flooded with awe-inspired wishes and prayers. They're mostly from salary men and families wishing for fortune and the like, and more than a few people ask to touch your ears, which you allow briefly. Umeki has to restrain herself to remain professional. You spend a couple of hours performing this for them, and once you feel like you've completed your duties, kick up a swirl of dust and disappear into the bushes.

It is fairly late by this point so most people clear out once you have left, allowing you to return to the shrine unharnessed. Almost unharnessed, as once you near the shrine house, you are accosted by an ear-fondler. To your surprise, its Shun this time.

"Wow, they *are* real! That must feel so weird. I've gotta try that when I get mine back." She says, releasing your ears promptly. "You think you could grow a tail?"

You run your hands down your hair to tease her a little more and tilt your head.

"T-Then," Shun slowly embraces you around the waist, running her hands up the back of your silken robe, and pulls your face close to hers. once close enough, you both lock into a kiss, tongues intertwining in this shared cavity. "And there will be a next time~" She added, with starry eyes. You could only nod in response. It appears to be evening now. What will you do?

It's been a long day, a long weekend for you actually, and you feel like just heading home tonight. It's a weekday tomorrow anyway. Shun was your ride to the shrine, so you ask her for a ride back, and she happily obliges. The two of you make good time on the bike, but it's still late by the time you get back to your house. You step off the bike onto the sidewalk and look up at your house.
