You are Heinrich Eberhardt. Father to Elise and Karl. Widower to the late Meta Eberhardt, Emperor hold her soul. You'll be with her soon enough.

The last three months have seen you recover from your wounds fighting for the New Vienna Militia to defend the city and the world of Barivia from the greenskin menace. Thrown back into the front, you've been put in charge of a suicide mission: take thirty men and women, two thirds of them militia, cross Old Brexenburg and garrison the abandoned Fort Brexen. Along the way you've lost a squad of militia to thin air, rescued a Chimera transport and Basilisk Artillery Gun from a group of greenskins, and picked up enough stragglers to bring your numbers toward what you estimate is fifty able men.

After successfully leading your force to assist the latest group of stragglers in breaking out of greenskin encirclement, you encountered a unit of Pioneers a mere kilometer and a half from your objective. Taking the chance to sort out your growing force and see to the growing number of wounded under your command, your force moved into the apartment courtyard acting as the Pioneers' base of operations. The time was 04:12.
>>
The ranking Pioneer returns his sidearm to its holster, ignoring the fact that he just executed a Colonel in full insignia in favor of a Brevet General without insignia and a suicide mission. He's just a boy by your standards, but you remember the look in his eyes from the mirror and more friends than you'd ever care to admit to. They all end up with the look the late Colonel's eyes have, even Otmar. If you're the last one, will they all vanish with you?

"Pioneers here, General. Was wünschen Sie... what do you want?”

Your body jerks at the voice. "Forces?"

"Twenty Pioneers, ready to fight. Two Mules, empty but functional. Eight of the Colonel's people from the Ack Ack battery, though my boys have taken to calling them the Colonel's harem. Pisses off the two men in the unit. Their techpriest was killed when the Hydra was knocked out." He points to an intersection to the south of your position on a hand-drawn map.

"Known enemy and friendly positions?"

"We fought some skirmishes with small groups trying to cross the river. Saw some comical stuff, but there were also sixty of us, then. Haven't seen any friendlies in days besides the Colonel's people and you."
>>
>>36706040
"One of your men said you've been setting charges?"

"I've got six buildings rigged to blow and block off the roads to the West. Take some greenskins with them if we're lucky."

"The Ack Ack battery to the south?"

"We could fix the hydra within an hour using the mules, but we'd need cover. Or we can tow it and one of the two Manticore platforms, though they're out of munitions."

>The time is 04:28
>Objective: Reclaim the Fortress by 10:00 hours.

>Orders? The men still have at least 14 minutes left on that half-hour break.
>>
>Map key

Anyone is welcome to participate in this little side quest thread and help kill orks invading Space Germany (Kraut-land!)

Tow the Hydra battery and fix it once we're at the fortress.
Only take a Manticore platform if it's not gonna slow us down, we might find some munitions for it at the fortress.

Will blocking off those streets to the west affect how the enemy can reach us once we're at the fortress?
If they're not advantageous where they are see how long it would take to unhook them and take them with us. Would be useful for rigging the surrounding areas of the Fortress.
>>
>>36706188
>Only take a Manticore platform if it's not gonna slow us down

If you're towing the Hydra, a platform won't slow you down any further. Both would need 1 Mule vehicle.

>Will blocking off those streets to the west affect how the enemy can reach us once we're at the fortress?
That is for you to decide. Some forces are crossing the river to the West.

"How long would it take to recover charges from the buildings?"

"Depends what we run into. All clear? Thirty minutes and we can recover enough to drop another building."
>>
>>36706724
Take the Manticore then.
Recover the explosives, we'll need them if the Orks throw something big at us.
Once break is over keep a defensive perimeter on the approach from the west as they recover the explosives, in case those orange dots get closer.
>>
>>36706850
Noted.

Do you want to take care of anything else before break is over? Check in with the few Lieutenants you have? Look into some of the stragglers you've picked up? Assert your authority over what were formerly the Colonel's men/harem?
>>
>>36707258
er...We already had a chat with the officer who commander that platoon who ghosted right? iirc she was in too rough a shape to talk.
Have a chat with the other officers and see what the state of morale is. Also see if any of them have knowledge of Brexen Fortress' interior and stuff that could help the defence.

As for the Colonel's troops, were they present when he got lobotomised?
If not I guess they should be informed of the fact, and also that we're gonna need them to man the Hydra when we get it working, so they're coming with us to Brexen.
>>
>>36707258
Assert authority over the colonel's ack ack battery (best not call them a harem, military discipline all that). Then look over the stragglers we've picked up, let's see if ther are any diamonds in the rough
>>
>>36707392
>>36707565

"We move out in fourteen minutes. Have your men ready to recover some of the explosives before we move south for the equipment and on to the Fortress."

"Yes, General." The Pioneer begins to gather up some things from the room as you step back into the courtyard, heavy door closing behind you.

Most of the men and women outside seem to have heard either the exchange or the Colonel's brains being removed from his head. You spot a few of your men trying to conceal that they've readied their weapons. The Colonel's "harem" is easy enough to spot, several of them looking at you with a mix of fear and confusion. There really are only two men in the group, aside from a pair of Pioneers that are clearly being scolded by an older soldier.

The older soldier turns as you approach, a '734' patch sitting below a Captain's insignia. She looks to be about fifty, and you notice that her left eye is bionic and set within a massive scar that dominates the side of her face. Her eyes match your own as half of her face grimaces.

>Orders?
>>
>>36708070
>I assume you are the late Colonel's 2nd in command? We need you and your people to man the Hydra when we defend Brexen Fortress. It'll be repaired once we're inside. Can I count on you?
>>
>>36708070
"Heinrich Eberhardt, brigadier general. Your Colonel has been promoted to serve on the general staff of the emporer himself. Captain, you are now in charge of this detachment. I have been tasked with taking and holding the fortress at Brexen, can I count on you and your people's support?"
>>
"Heinrich Eberhardt, Brigadier General. The late Colonel has been promoted to serve on the general staff of the Emperor himself. Captain, you are now in charge of this detachment."

The Captain carefully looks over her shoulder at the squad, then returns her gaze directly to your eyes. "Yes, General."

"I have been tasked with taking and holding Fortress Brexen, and will need you to crew your equipment once we've recovered it and deployed at the Fortress. Can I count on you and your people, Captain?"

"Depends, General. Seven-Three-Four or Seven-Three-Seven?"

>Response?

>Seven-Three-Four. Planetfall till Darkest Hour.
>Seven-Three-Four. Planetfall till medical evac.
>Seven-Three-Seven. Replacement, but I was there for the Darkest Hour.
>Seven-Three-Seven. Replacement, medical evac.
>>

>Seven-Three-Four. Planetfall till medical evac.
>Put me out of it for good. Left a lot of friends behind on that rock who never got off.
>>
>>36709028
>Minor clarification, ho!

734 and 737 were the army/regiments that participated in the Expeditionary Wars. She's asking if Heinrich was one of the originals or a replacement, respectively. And 'Darkest Hour' was the final hour of evacuations from the planet. A good % of the soldiers were left behind as the greenskins turned the last evac zones into killing fields.
>>
>>36709354
Gonna second this just because otherwise we'll be stuck at a 1 to 1 tie.
>>
"Seven-Three-Four. SturmJäger Corps until I was put out of it for good. Left a lot of friends behind on that rock, some that didn't make it off in time."

The Captain sneers for a minute, then spits on the ground. "You can count on these kids as long as I'm around, General. How long we holding for?"

"Until we're relieved, Captain. Hold until relieved."

"Hendrik. Sascha Hendrik."

>Orders?
>>
>>36710063
I guess wait for them to gather the explosives then carry onto the objective.
>>
>>36710063
Figured that option wouldn't go over so well. Oh well. See if the Captain has any information on the fort.
>>
>>36710223
explosives aren't being recovered until your men have finished their break, as you'll need to deploy men during that to cover the Pioneers.

Unless you wish to send some out immediately.

>>36710249

"Nineteen meter walls, at the lowest. One of the officers wouldn't stop comparing voidship armor to them. He just wouldn't stop talking, normally. When his arm was blown off he finally shut up, though. We barely noticed." She jumps slightly. "Sorry, General. I don't know all that much about it."
>>
>>36710063
"Get your troopers ready to move out. Ive got a whole lottta troopers that are greener than the 'skins. I trust you to loot after your own."

Then check in with our LTs, see status of forces
>>
>>36710577
Hmm. I hope we run into more people since this fort might be damn hard to hold at this rate if it's that big.

Only other thing I can think of asking is if she heard anything that might be useful for our mission from the Colonel. Where troops should be or crap like that.
>>
>>36710737
"Our section of the line fell like cards, General. We're scattered more than a company of fallschirmjäger in a storm and these buildings mean we could have walked within meters of another unit and missed them. Colonel was obsessed with restarting the front here, and we haven't caught any orders coming in."

"Get your troopers ready to move out. I've got a gaggle of soldiers greener than the 'skins. I trust you to look after your own, Captain."

It takes a moment to spot one of your officers in the courtyard, but you find Lieutenant Adrian Baldur sitting on an ammo crate and hunched over a dainty little iron and wood table. One of the fallschirmjägers and a panzer grenadier have pulled up crates of their own, each with a small field slate in hand.

Baldur stands as you're noticed, offering a salute that you quickly return. "General Eberhardt, Sir." Gesturing toward the fallschirmjäger and panzer grenadier in turn, he introduces them. "Lieutenant Leonhard Gottfried, Lieutenant Erich Torsten." Both men salute quickly. "We were trying to get a head count, sir. It looks like we've picked up a full squad of fallschirmjägers, five more panzer grenadiers, and seventeen militia. Eleven severely wounded."

"Did I catch Lieutenant David making a latrine run?"

Baldur simply shakes his head. "Eight dead or missing, General."

>orders?
>>
>>36711344
"Any additional supplies or just the kit the new additions are carrying? How many of the eight are missing?"
>>
>>36711525

"One of the fallschirmjägers has a melta gun. We've ended up giving away about half of our supplies to the stragglers we've picked up, General."

"How many of the eight are missing, Baldur?"

Lieutenant Gottfriend clears his throat. "Doesn't make much difference. Anyone left behind either hoofed it on their own and is lost, or they're dead."
>>
>>36711868
Can't think of anything else. Suppose should tell them to get them men together, try to keep morale up as best they can and then we get moving once we get whatever explosives we can grab.
>>
>>36711987

Are you going to send out the Pioneers alone? Or will you be assigning a group to defend a perimeter?
>>
>>36712121
Defend a perimeter. I don't think we want to get wrapped up in combat so focus should be to get the explosives but fall back if a large ork force is approaching.

Panzer Grenadier x11 (Kettenkrads)
Panzer Grenadier x4 (Chimera/Basilisk Crew)(auto-assigned)
Lt Gottfried (FallschrimJäger)
FallschrimJäger x6 (+1 Meltagunner)

Temporarily dismount the Panzer Grenadiers. Use fallschirmjägers, panzer grenadiers and grenadiers thrown out in a screen to cover the pioneers as they recover their explosives. Send Greta Elisabet to some high ground to provide overwatch. Militia and AA troopers as a reserve. After Pioneers recover the explosives there will be three blasts of a whistle (I assume we have a whistle, if not one of the vehicle horns, they have horns, right?) for recall and rendezvous at current location for move out to objective.

It is nearly 05:30 before you hear the whistle blasts in the distance, and by 5:40 all of your men have returned save for the fallschirmjägers. Lt Baldur reports that they commandeered the missile launcher and mortar before setting out to strike a greenskin bridge nearing completion. "They're crazy."

"They're crazy enough to pull it off and have some of them survive" corrects Captain Hendrik. "L-G-O-F, General. They know where to find us."

The sound of a fight in the distance begins to rumble from the West.

The young Pioneer from earlier soon reports that his men are ready to head south. "General, did you want to recover the Hydra tank and Manticore platforms the Ack Ack squad abandoned to our south? We should be able to get the Hydra moving in half an hour and can tow the platforms, or we can use one of the mules to tow the Hydra and leave a platform behind. "We tow the Hydra and one platform, leave nothing functional behind."

The Pioneers move like some kind of hive, breaking into smaller teams that each tackle one of the problems facing them with the damaged tank and platforms. One team is quick to secure a platform for transport and hook it up to the crane on a mule, while two more tackle the Hydra tank. The left side of the tank is lifted and the Pioneers descend upon four of the road-facing rollers, knocking their pins through with small sledge hammers and punches. Wheels like the ones on the autocannon your men have been dragging around are positioned and installed in pairs upon the replaced pins, and the damaged track is pulled clear before they return the tank to the ground.

"What in the Emperor's name have they done to my Hydra?" Captain Hendrik's mouth is agape. "It's lop-sided by at least five degrees!"

One of the Pioneers secures a length of rope to a hoist point on the Hydra's hull and lifts an apparently heavy sack. "That's what this sack of wrenches is for!" In a moment, he's secured the sack and himself to the rope and begins to lean over the side of the tank's hull. You're not certain that it is helping.

"Is that even safe?"

"No more dangerous than this mission, General" Captain Hendrik looks up, into the fog. "Should be light, soon."

"Doesn't help us with the fog in the streets. Let's get these kids moving."

At 05:59 your force moves out, Pioneers busy replacing damaged track sections in the back of one of the Mules while the walking wounded manage to crowd into the other Mule. Part of you wonders if you're pushing them too hard, but you've been through worse yourself. They'll just have to manage, none of you have a choice.

The Panzer Grenadiers bring you to a halt before an intersection, a pair of kettenkrad scouting a few hundred meters ahead before returning.

"Looks clear, General. Do we continue due South or take the road South East?"

"Take us South East."

The column moves as quickly as possible, though several times the Pioneers stop and clear debris from the path of the mules and towed equipment. Light from the East is barely visible through the lingering fog and occasional cloud of smoke drifting above you, but the city streets are still shrouded in fog and shadow.

"Halt!" The hissed order runs down the column and across the vox that your original platoon was equipped with. Panzer Grenadiers jump off their Kettenkrads and find cover behind the nearest debris or their machines, while the Militia either freeze in place or drop to the ground where they stand. A few ahead of your Chimera are grabbed by Grenadiers and pulled elsewhere to clear the hull weapon's line of fire.

You try to filter out the drone of the Chimera's idling engine, but your ears aren't tuned to this sort of work. Your driver's are, however. "Greenskin vehicle, coming fast!" The roar is upon you a moment later, and a pile of scrap, engine exhausts and red paint flies out of the fog, hurtling along the road in a halo of mis-timed gouts of flame from the exhausts. It drifts slightly as the road bends away from you, throwing one of the smaller greenskins hanging onto the vehicle into what looks like a small statue of a mayor.

Passing faster than anyone could bring their weapons on target, the trukk's wheels give a tortured scream of a sound around the corner before a dozen greenskin weapons begin to fire. None of the shooting seems to be headed your direction, but the vehicle couldn't have gone too far West beyond the corner at the fork.

>Orders?
>You are in the Commander's position of the Chimera, and control the multilaser.

The enemy trukk came from the East and passed you to the West.
>>
>>36721960
Yes, cover the intersection with the street that the ork truck went past on
>>
"Spread out and cover that intersection. Panzer Grenadiers! Two up to each corner and give me a report!"

You notice that the Pioneers are carrying your autocannon from the back of a Mule with six of their men, the carriage missing its wheels. Still, it takes less than a minute before everyone is in position. The shooting has intensified and several explosions punctuate the fight around the corner.

"Friendlies!" Shouts one of the Panzer Grenadiers from the Western corner of the intersection. The pair are quick to lean around the corner and add their fire to the battle, ducking back when the masonry is hit by fire.

>>
>>36722537

>>
"Squad leaders, form your people up!" You lift yourself out of the Chimera's turret, sliding down the sloped front of the hull. "Someone get the Basilisk prepared for indirect fire!"

Reaching the corner with the Panzer Grenadiers, you squint to keep masonry dust from your eyes. "Report!"

The soldiers look at you in slight confusion, but one's wits quickly return. "General! Trukk has been disabled fifty meters or so West, looks like civilian vehicles were jammed up. Friendlies twenty meters or so further, they've got a missile launcher, but I think the team is down. Sir."

"Greenskins?"

"Not sure, Sir. Most of them are dead, I think."

Fragments of masonry are thrown from the building's corner as ten, eleven rounds strike your chosen cover. You stick your head around the corner in a lull, drawing more fire after you're safely concealed. Six grots with pistols, two larger greenskins. Their attentions are mixed, but you count enough of them on the ground to account for most of a small mob. The trukk itself is shattered where at least one missile has detonated.

"Chimera on point! Grenadiers, use the tank for cover and take these bastards out!"

The APC's engine roars as it is thrown into gear and advances, the turret swinging your direction as it approaches the corner and the multilaser engages the greenskins. Lasrifles lend their weight to the fight where a Greenskin attempts to find protection from the multilaser, and soon no greenskins live to offer challenge.

"About fucking time!" yells someone from down the street.

"We're coming out" shouts another.

Four men and women rise from behind vehicles. Two are arbites in full battle gear, one a Sister Hospitaller in battle carapace, and the fourth is a tired looking militia woman lighting a lho stick while cradling a shotgun. The Sister Hospitaller moves over to what looks to be left of a civilian vehicle and kneels, speaking to something you can't see before two more weapons discharges are heard. She rises with fresh blood upon her armor and moves toward a pained cry elsewhere.

"Sorry we couldn't help sooner. I'm General Heinrich Eberhardt, my troops and I are making our way to Brexen Fortress to hold out against the Greenskins, we can use people of your skill."

The Arbites exchange a look at your words, one of them removing her helmet and offering her hand. "Judge Sunniva Lene." Gesturing toward her associates in turn, she introduces them. " Arbite Hjalmar Raphael, Sister Ada, and Miss" turning to the militia woman, she clears her throat. "I'm sorry, Miss. I seem to have misplaced your name."

Sitting on the front end of a vehicle, the woman exhales lho smoke into the fog. "The one without his head was Thor, one with the hole in her chest was Svenja. Renata. Renata Edith, if we're still doing your formal shit, Judge."

The Judge looks ready to grab the maul at her hip, but turns toward you with a tight jaw. "Militia. We'd be happy to join you, General."

Don't wanna get backed up against a wall.
>>
>>36725301

Head east but cut south before the premiter (option b)

My reasoning is that the ork truck came from due east which would mean that there are probably more of them that way. On the other hand I don't want to get to close to the fortress at a point other than the gate in case there is some surprise waiting for us in there.

This is it. The final dash to the objective.

Your forces advance through the streets, turning East when possible to avoid drawing the attention of any enemy forces that may occupy the position. The path is clear, even as you approach the Eastern entrance to the position.

Old even by your grandfather's standards, Brexen Fortress looms above the lush trees that mark it as a civic park in the middle of a city. What is left of the massive towers at the heart of the fortress can be seen through the fog that still lingers, though their peaks are ragged. The Colonel did mention that something had shot at the fortress and caused the commander to withdraw from the position. The damned thing is still a park, though. There are damned park benches and signs about not walking on the grass where there should be Dragon's Teeth, trenches and barbed wire. And that is just the entrance. God Emperor help you.

Three shots ring out from ahead, a lasgun, and one of the militia falls dead with a hole in their chest. Someone screams, someone young. "That wasn't a greenskin! That wasn't a greenskin! Alfred what have you done!?"

Three bodies hang from the neck upon the side of the building you're approaching. Two are civilians, while the third is a woman in the uniform of the Ork Jägers. She was shot in the gut before being strung up. 'Coward' is scrawled on a sign hung around her.

Most of your soldiers have already gotten down or behind cover, thankfully. "Hold your fire! Hold your fire!" Taking the lack of further shooting as a good sign, you clear your throat. "This is General Eberhardt! Identify yourselves immediately!"

"We're in here!" A damned child pushes open a door at the end of the structure and waves excitedly before being pulled back inside.

"That fucking kid couldn't have been older than fourteen" mutters someone.

"I have orders to take and hold this Fortress and defend the city. Identify yourselves immediately!"

Two men eventually come out of the door, putting their weapons on the ground before stepping back. A few children in their teens follow, the last wearing a jacket that looks much like the one you wore during the Expeditionary Wars. You can't make out the unit patch, but the teen cradles his lasgun instead of putting it down.

>Orders?
>>
>>36726818
Start moving all our troops and equipment inside, take aside the one wearing the jacket and have him fill us in on what we've missed (he's obviously the leader). Including the 'ornaments' on the front door.

Ask to see who's in charge first.
>>
"Get everyone inside. Miss Tine, I believe the Colonel will want to hear from us."

Everyone seems to watch you approach the group before getting their asses in gear. You're not shot, at least.

"Who is in charge? Come with me and give your report."

"Unteroffizier Alfred Rainer, General." The armed boy follows you toward a park bench and table tucked away into the corner of the courtyard.

"You're the one that just shot one of my men, then?"

"My apologies, General." He's going through the motions, but clearly doesn't mean it.

"And your three ornaments?"

"Cowards that wanted to abandon the position, General. I made an example of them."

You notice that several of the other children have followed you over, along with Renata and Captain Hendrik. The latter's eye is fixed upon the patch of the boy's jacket, and her hand is tightening into a fist. The patch is old and has stains where the original owner and his friends bled on it all those years ago. In a few years, the jacket itself may even fit the boy well enough.

"Where did you get the jacket, son?"

"It was my grandfather's, General. He taught me how to fight, lead and not fear death. I don't care if I die, General. I'm ready to die for Barivia."

You study the other children while he talks. They're afraid. Not of the greenskins or yourself. They're afraid of him, except for the girl. She flinched like she'd been struck when he said he didn't care.

"The cowards weren't. The civilians wanted to flee themselves, but the soldier wanted us all to abandon our posts. She said that she had orders to withdraw like the rest of them did, wanted us to come with her like the coward she was. No soldier abandons their post, General. So we strung her up to show our resolve and send a message to cowards."

>Orders?
>>
>>36728032
Get a situation report from the guy in command. Then maybe we should shoot him, maybe.
>>
>>36728112

"What about greenskins? Stores still in the Fortress? Abandoned armor? Attacks?"

The boy looks a bit shocked by your questions. "I uhh... I hadn't thought to check for stores or equipment, General. We've been here since nightfall and have been defending the gate. You're the only ones to arrive aside from the coward."
>>
>>36728170
"Is the fortress at least secure or are there parts of it you haven't been to yet?"

Waste of time killing the kid. Gonna need all the help we can holding this place. If the fort hasn't been secured, we should make sure there are no orks who might have wandered in before they arrived. Then start seeing what we can secure for our own use.
>>
>>36728197
"Ok lad what are your numbers and what equipment do you have?"

After he gives us that information let's gather our officers and make a plan for exploring/defending this place. When we devide up our forces we should probably put someone else in charge of this little commissars band and assign him somewhere else.
>>
>>36728170
I'm in favour of executing this nutter for murdering a loyal, elite soldier who was following orders. But it seems I'm outvoted so let's start by posting a wall guard and thoroughly exploring this place and try to gather up anything we can use.
>>
>>36728197
>>36728321

"Seven of us with lasguns, General. No one has gotten past us, we've held the gate."

>Orders?
>>
>>36728405
Post a wall guard and maybe get them to see if there's any way we can close the entrances to the fort. Then let's start scouring the fort for supplies and vehicles. Might also be wise to get the basilisk up into a high position ahead of time. Would probably be best to bring the kid with us since he might listen to us since we're the highest person ranked here.
>>
>>36728405
Right time for a staff meeting. Let's call in the judge, the sister, renata, the AA captain, the pioneer officer and the one remaining LT from our origional band (am I missing anyone important). With everyone assembled do a status check and start assigning leaders and troopers to various tasks. Scouting the fortress should be one major focus.
>>
>>36728405
How many wounded have we got?
How many could be back on their feet before we're up to our balls in Orks?
>>
>>36728385
I'm in favor of that too, this kid has gone off the deep end and his misguided notions are getting people killed for the wrong reasons, but I'm currently at work so can't vote reliably
>>
>>36728472
Maybe we can give him a 'special' mission to retrieve something important from the city, use his stealth and zeal to get the job done, and let the orks deal with him
>>
>>36728814
He's kind of exactly what we need at the moment if we want to hold the fort. If some of the people we've lost has been due to people running away, him being around might be a benefit to make sure we don't lose anyone else from cowardice. And thanks to him, we have seven more people with lasguns to hold the fort and it seems he's a decent enough shot.
>>
>>36728859
>tell him to go into city
>shoots us for ordering him to leave his post

I mean shit he already shot one superior for relaying orders he didn't like.
I really don't like having this kid around I gotta say. He's unpredictable and dangerous to our own troops.
>>
>>36728921
The kid wants to stay and fight. There is absolutely no reason to get rid of him when we just keep him here to fight on the line and give him what he wants. Keep him away from some others and give him a spotter position or act as eyes on the wall until reinforcements arrive or orks arrive and it should be fine.

"Go take inventory of what weapons and ammunition your group has and then walk a circuit of the Fortress walls. Run back here if you find a gap in the walls or spot greenskins. For now, they don't seem to know we're here or that we're not ready to repulse an attack. Understand?"

"Yes, General!" The boy hurries off to complete your orders.

"He's gone crazy." Renata lights up another lho stick before offering a lighting one for Captain Hendrik.

"If he were mine, I'd smother him." The Captain grumbles. "It's a disgrace to that patch, what he did."

"Staff meeting. Go collect Judge Lene, Sister Ada and whomever is passing for an officer among us these days."

The women nod and head off toward the gathered soldiers while you take a well deserved sit on your ass. The park benches didn't look all that comfortable, but a tired old man isn't all that picky.

"Excuse me, General?" A younger woman with the Ork Jäger insignia on her uniform places a small journal into your hand. "If you wouldn't mind, General, I'd like you to confirm my kills on the mega-armoured nobs a during that breakout a few hours back."

"Sniper?"

"Ja, General."

The journal has a shockingly well drawn range card for the area you remember the Nobs in question being in. Looks like they were actually behind you, in a building.

"What's the count if I confirm these?"

"Eighty-nine and Ninety, General. I plan on adding more today." Her finger points to the bottom of the page, where she's filled out information on the time and intersection for each shot. "All I need is your signature, General."

>>
"That's an exceptional performance, soldier." You sign next to each set of information. "If you wouldn't mind, I'd like you to pair up with Miss Elisabet. She's carrying the scoped ninety-eight."

Taking her journal, the woman's finger taps the binding twice. "I have other matters to attend to at the moment, General. If you'll excuse me." She walks off toward where some men have cut down the hanging bodies, pulling the body's tags.

Your improvised command staff arrives a few minutes later, the Medic handing you a small pouch filled with bloodied identification tags. "Two militia and a Panzer Grenadier have been granted his mercy, General. I took the liberty of adding the... young lady's tags to our own." Stuffing his hands into his pockets, he flinches as his arm visibly tenses. "Lt Lydia, a Panzer Grenadier and one of the FallschrimJäger will be able bodied in the next few hours. The sedatives just need to work out of their systems."

With your officers assembled, you stand and address them. "There is an old adage. 'If you want to kill any idea in the world, get a committee working on it'. I believe this applies to us just as much as if it might in a guildhall somewhere. So while I would like your opinions once I have made a decision, I'd like no arguments. Is this clear?"

"Yes, Sir."

"I want Miss Elizabet up on the gate, providing overwatch. Captain Hendrik, you're in charge of ensuring the Pioneers get that Hydra functional and then having them replace the damned wheels on my autocannon. Renata, you'll take the forces we found here and eight militia. Check out the buildings starting in the North. I'll take Mr Rainer and the rest of the militia to search the buildings on the South end. If we can eat it, shoot it, wear it, drive it or use it to defend this fortress, make note of where and how many." Both women nod.

"Lieutenant Baldur. Rally your Grenadiers and form the vehicles up into a laager just inside the gate. Deploy whatever weapons you see fit and ensure nothing gets through. Lieutenant Torsten. Get your men onto the walls and sweep the perimeter counter-clockwise from the Gate." Torsten looks like he has something to say, but nods with Baldur.

"Judge Lene, if you'd take your man and a handful of troopers from Captain Hendrik's unit and deploy to the towers. I need people with good vantage points. If they can bring any defensive systems online, all the better. Finally, I'd like Sister Ada to assist with our wounded. Until we locate a medicae, we are dependent upon skill rather than supplies for our wounds. Any questions?"
Lt Torsten nods. "General. I appreciate that my men have the greatest mobility, but I'd like to split my men into two forces and send only three or four men to investigate the Western wall along the river. We can't respond to an attack on Lieutenant Baldur's force if we're suck on the Western wall, Sir."
>>

"Let the kids protect the Western wall" says Renata. "I don't like the idea of that psychopath having a chance to off you, Hein- General." Hendrik, Baldur and Torsten nod in agreement.

"What the fuck are you doing with. Never mind, I don't want to know. This entire front is going to shit, Eberhardt.
