Welcome to Banished Quest!
You take the role of a young mage labeled a criminal by his people and cast out into the wider world. In the last thread you strangled your little brother, made an announcement to your family, and ate sweets.

You wait for a few more minutes, talking of inconsequential things. Mostly relating to your father's business contacts and the plotting of the other noble families. Apparently the Demirs have been trying to muscle in on your family's trading lanes, though they've had little success. Even as weak as your family is after losing their fleet to those pirates, the dregs of your navy is still enough to trounce the Demirs soundly.

What's far more concerning is the increase in bandit raids, likely ordered or at least encouraged by the Demirs, against your caravans. Your family has never had the best footmen. Sure, their elite guards are as good as those of any house but their rank and file may as well be peasants tossing weapons about. Granted, they're flinging about very high quality weapons in quite expensive armor. If it were merely an issue of equipment, you'd have no problem. Rather it's discipline and skill which your family's soldiers lack. Your father has been thinking about hiring a few new drill instructors, veteran soldiers of some renown, to whip your household guard into shape.

You're reminded of your fellow apprentice, Rajani. If you recall correctly she's a Demir. Your two families were once close, in fact you think your great grandmother may have been of their line, but relations have soured in the last few years. Something about one of your cousins insulting their patriarch. Then they went and sank one of your family's dhows as a way of retribution. Then your father had their entire fleet burned in the harbor and one of their estates looted. Just minor incidents, really. Nothing of much import. At least, according to your family.

To you it sounds like the beginnings of a war. Internecine warfare is the norm among the upper nobility, a time honored tradition. You can't help but think it weakens the Shahdom. It would be better to turn their attention towards healthy competition, rather than looting and burning the other's holdings. Better to advance the cause of everyone and turn your strength against shared enemies.

Eventually you stand. “Excuse me, everyone. I feel I ought to look for my younger brother. It is getting late, and I do worry he may have come to harm.”

Your father waves a hand dismissively. “I'm sure he's fine. He's probably just brooding somewhere. I tell you, he's been the foulest mood as of late. I can't imagine why, his business endeavors are advancing apace and though some of his investments have failed to pay out as well as he expected he's still wealthier now than he was a year ago.”

You smile politely. “Yes, well. I feel it my duty as the older sibling to watch after the younger. I wouldn't want him getting in to any trouble.”

Your father nods, tacitly permitting you go search for Salil. You make your leave quickly, ignoring the concerned looks Vasuda cast in your direction. Once you're away from the family, you channel just a touch of magic. The world seems viewed as if through a green filter, the plant life surrounding the estate lighting up bright, glowing green. You spy the two guards standing at the main gate, and a third standing outside the foyer entrance. You spot your family in the dining room, and twenty or so men in the guard's barracks, but the rest of the house seems abandoned.

You set off for the courtyard. So awash was the area with life that you couldn't properly determine whether or not something you were looking at was a man or a plant. You slip past the curtain and into the open night air. The sky is clear and the stars shine brightly, allowing you some light to see by. The moon is but a mere sliver tonight, and so of little use. Of course, torches line the walkway but their light only reaches so far.

You take a slow stroll around the courtyard, but don't encounter your brother. You try looking in some of the usual hiding spots that you can recall; that alcove you were reading in earlier, a the boughs of a tree which are spaced just so, perfect for relaxing in; a small, disused guard tower on the north west end of the perimeter wall. He's nowhere to be found.

Finally you make your way through the house and up to the front gate, clearing your throat to get the attention of the two guards standing there. They're not the same two who failed to recognize you when you arrived, or at least you don't think they are. The one to your left, a stocky man with a barrel chest and the yellowest eyes you've ever seen, salutes you. His companion, a comparatively scrawny young man, belatedly does so as well.

“Have either of you seen my brother, Salil, pass through the gates?” You ask, beginning to suspect he merely stormed off without his wife. Irresponsible, is what it is.

The stocky one nods, dropping his salute. “Yes sir, a few hours ago. He said he wasn't feeling well and that he was retiring for the night.”

Gods above, the gall! Who does such a thing? Your ungrateful little brother, apparently. You suppose you ought to break the news to your parents, and Vasuda. You can't say you're looking forward to it, you can only imagine it will be terribly awkward. “Thank you, I'll let you get back to your duty.”

The two guards snap off another salute as you turn to leave. It's nice to not only command respect, but to have authority again. Even over those you barely know, merely due to your position in society. You make your way swiftly through the entry hall and into the dining room, where your family is still seated. Uncomfortably you clear your throat to get their attention.

Once you have everyone's eyes, you speak. “It appears as though my brother has already left, returned home. He told the gate guards that he was feeling ill.”

Your father scowls, while Semiha blows out an annoyed sigh. “That son of mine! I can't believe him. He used to be such a sweet boy but lately he's just been incorgible.”

Your mother gently corrects her. “Incorrigible, dear. Anyway, we'll need to have someone escort Vasuda home, then. She's no warrior like that friend of yours, Mikhael.”

Vasuda holds up her hands in mock surrender. “No no, that's fine! Really, I can make it home by myself.”

Your father shakes his head firmly. “No, it really wouldn't do. You will take a contingent of guardsmen with you. It's the least we can do in the absence of my son to fulfill his duties as a husband.”

Vasuda winces, just slightly. “It's not necessary, I promise. I've a dagger with me to fend off any thugs which I might meet on the road. I wouldn't want to offend my dearest husband if he's feeling ill.”

You're not sure how being escorted home by a contingent of guardsmen is an insult to your little brother. If it is, he brought it on himself. He shouldn't have just abandoned his wife in someone else's home, even if it was the home of his family.

>Offer to escort her home, in your brother's stead.
>Suggest she stay the night here, you've guest rooms aplenty.
>Just let her wander through the streets at night alone, she's armed. What could go wrong?
>Stay silent. Your father isn't the sort to take no for an answer, she'll get a personal guard and she'll like it.

I want to see how our families business is doing in depth.
Look into small things we could help out with.
I wouldn't mind finding out this bandits camp finding proof of their deeds with the demirs and ruining that royal family
Or have our dad take the evidence and strong arm them into handing over 90% of all their trade profits or something exorbitant.
I wouldn't mind taking another side quest. Especially if it's from our father for our family's benefit
>>
I somehow don’t feel safe leaving that girl alone with that husband. Little brother isn’t exactly acting rationally and I fear he may just wait for Mikhael to leave town and then act even worse in "revenge".

I think some other family members need to be told. They will know to keep it discreet, while also having Mikhael”s trust to keep her alive.

You sit down next to your sister Pratima, deciding to leave this matter up to your father's discretion. Your father, for his part, merely shakes his head at Vasuda's pleading. “If my son is offended that I'd have his wife delivered safely to his home then perhaps he ought to reassess his priorities and stop being such a delicate little flower. It's entirely his fault we're even forced to have this conversation.”

He nods to Nadiyya, who reaches over to a silken rope dangling from the wall and gives it a few good tugs. A few moments later a slave steps in through a side door half concealed in the wall itself. Servants in your country are supposed to be seen as little as possible by guest, and noble families often spend quite a bit of money ensuring that their slaves can get around the estate without ever setting foot in the hallways. Your family is no exception.

“Bring a contingent of guards here to escort my son's wife to my son's estate. Five men, no more and no less.” The slave nods, then quickly steps through the concealed doorway and into the servant's halls beyond. Only a few minutes later a burly human strides into the room. He's short, by your people's standards, but massive by the standards of humans. Six foot four if he's an inch, and broad in addition.

Captain Koldo Azarola, one of the most famous mercenaries to wander the sands of Pidjata in the last three centuries. He made a name for himself pillaging the lands of the Samrajya during the last border war. You can see four other men, these proper Samja, milling about in the hall.

He bows low to your father, touching his fingers to his forehead and his chest. When he speaks, his Samjan is slurred and clumsy. Barely understandable really. “What'cha be havin' need of me for?”

Your father inclines his head to the human only slightly. “Koldo, I'd have you escort Vasuda to my son's home. Be sure she's delivered unharmed to his estate and safely inside before you return.”

(1/2)
>>
He bows again, and turns to face Vasuda. “You'll be comin' wif me then, miss?”

She nods, though the look on her face seems to suggest she just caught a whiff of some particularly foul stench. She stands and strides out of the room, Captain Koldo following after a moment's hesitation. He seems just a touch dimwitted, but a military genius from what you understand. With a force of two hundred men, humans at that, he bested a contingent of three hundred Samjan with Vatis support en route to reinforce the Samrajya's armies at the front.

Once the guards have left you turn your attention to Pratima. Despite her ridiculous outfit those gems embedded in her palms do inspire curiosity. What are they, and where did she get them? You're curious about that brooch on her strap which binds her single pauldron to her shoulder. Ignoring how asinine is is to have only a single pauldron, the brooch itself looks quite interesting. Gold with an array of carvings surrounding the red gem at the center. It might be some sort of enchanted artifact.

“Tell me, Pratima-” She sets down a bottle of wine, her glass refilled, and turns her attention to you. She seems to be quite capable of holding her liquor, this must be her sixth or seventh glass of the night and she hardly seem tipsy at all. Granted, she's been pacing herself and she did just eat a large meal. “-what do those gems embedded in your palms actually do? They don't appear to be a simple piercing, nor can I imagine how one would go about getting their palm pierced.”

She giggles lightly, shaking her head and swallowing a sip of wine. Perhaps just a touch drunker than you'd thought. “No no, no. These I found in an old temple complex to the south east. Long abandoned, a temple to Pani I believe. I'd thought they were just gemstones or some such, but when I picked them up they started to burn like hot coals. I tried to throw them down, but I couldn't. It was horribly painful while they burned themselves into my flesh.”

She holds her hands out towards you, palms up so you can get a good look. Her flesh seems to have healed around the gems, just a touch of scar tissue bulging out around the beautiful blue gems. Turquoise, you believe. Fairly common, your people find a lot of it in north western Pidjata. “Ever since then I've just found casting so much easier, really they're wonderful little gems. Not to mention I can use them to drain vys, both ambient and from other people.”
(1/3)
>>
>>36724777
To befair, it is possible, it just seems really unlikely from the info we have access to.
>>
You raise an eyebrow. “You can cast? What elements are you familiar with?” You imagine as an adventurer she's picked up a few things. However, the girl's only twenty years old. She may as well be a child. You can't imagine she's particularly talented at anything in particular.

She coughs, clearing her throat. “Well, about that. I've got a basic understanding of fire magic. Father taught me after I told him I intended to join the guard. Well, that fell through so I started adventuring. I've gotten a little better, but to be honest I don't really understand how one actually improves skill with magic without an instructor.”

You shake your head, plucking up a cup and inspecting it briefly to ensure that it's clean before filling it from a bottle of sweet red. “It's quite difficult to get started on a routine of self-improvement. Several of my companions are struggling with it as well. All you really need to do is meditate.”

She scratches the back of her neck. “Well, yeah. I know that. It's just I don't know what I'm supposed to meditate on. The concept of fire? That's how I got started and I can't seem to make hardly any progress with that method anymore.”

You shake your head. “No no, you need to use your magic while you're meditating. Heat a bucket of water or-”

She cuts in. “Wait, what? How can you cast while meditating? I can barely maintain a trance while I'm sitting still, how could I keep a clear head while simultaneously trying to cast?”

You raise an eyebrow. “You ought to be able to simply feel the magic and let it do as it wishes, guiding it with a delicate hand but not trying to direct it like some sort of authoritarian tyrant. My master once compared it to child rearing.” It quickly becomes clear that, should you wish to help your sister improve her magical talent, you'll need to actually sit down and meditate with her. She simply can't seem to wrap her head around such basic concepts as detaching herself from the results of her actions and allowing vys to act as it wills.

Eventually conversation with your sister peters out and you stand, excusing yourself briefly before making your way over to your father and his wives. You lean down, speaking quietly to your father. “If you'll allow me, I'd like to speak with you and mother in private.” You turn your attention to Semiha. “This concerns you as well, so you ought be present.”

“What is it exactly you wish to speak of? Can it not be said here in the presence of the family?” You shake your head, expression serious, and after a moment he nods. Semiha and your mother follow suit. The three of them stand while you straighten yourself, your father excusing the four of you from the table and walking with you to his study. He holds the door open for you, your mother, and Semiha to enter and then slips inside afterwards, closing the door behind him.

Your mother is the first to speak. “Well, what is it that's so important you need to speak with us in private? You know it's rude to just leave the table when others are still chatting.”

I'm not talking about that. Some sessions before we learned that technique Mikhael read about how the Varishta complained that the common method of meditating is wrong and any proper vatis should do it properly. Something about opening your mind instead of emptying it.

Some things to consider which came to me while reading the last thread, please discuss:
- Might Darzi want to invest in the ships and mine as well? If dad is okay with it and can use more money, that is. Since she is Samjan, and a prestigious guard captain, he might be interested. I don't know how feasible it would be for our non-Samjam friends to do the same, though. All of them are richer than almost anybody we know, and the First Bank of Void gives no interest, so it might be worth a try.
- The opium and other stuff from the bandits is packed in El-Amin boxes if I recall correctly. We might need to put them elsewhere before somebody recognizes them from his lost caravan. Now that I think about it, a part of it might even have belonged to our family.
- Don't forget to give a bit of the opium to Master Karim.
- What will be the consequences for Darzi when/if she takes the robe test in El-Amin? Will she be have to work for the state, like the other vatis? She will not be allowed to marry, does she want to? Doing the test in An thus might be better, depending on her personal plans.

- Can we please stop telling again and again that we assassinated Lord Spiros? Rule no. 1 for murder is "leave no evidence, no witnesses", rule no. 2 is "never ever ever talk about it, it will come back to bite your ass". I'm not concerned about Master Karim, dad or best brother, but the last thing we need is for Salil to tell the Anthus rulers, when we already successfully blamed the hooker.
>>
>>36725366
I'd rather not. One advantage of full armor is not being recognized, besides, we'd be more likely to give the family a bad name that way.
>>
>>36725377
>>36725375
Well yeah I was thinking like 3 decorations max. One for Spiros, one for Longia and one for Namek.

We could also decorate our grandmaster robes with something for each grandmastery we have. Although, that may already be a thing, I don't remember.
>>
>>36725440
1. Too late for that.
2. Sure, we do still have to remember to keep one as a gift for our master.
3. Oh.
4. I don't really think there's any point to her taking the test. Especially not in El-Amin. But she can do whatever she wants.
5. Yeah I was also kind of pissed at that.
>>
>>36725451

Agree, we may want to get different sets of robes depending on what we are doing.
>>
>>36725475
That is a thing, only done by state vatis and would make us look like a pompous ass, and not one with good tate, but a chuuni arrogant one.
The most I can deal with is some subtle white crystal pattern at the end/sides of our robe, to commemorate our first GM meditation.
>>
>>36725475
Putting you elements on your robe for everyone to see always struck me as a terrible idea if you're not already famous for your abilities or settled down. I'd rather keep the element of surprise when needed.
>>
>>36725529
>chuuni

>>
>>36725536
This would be a valid point if not for nature magic being pretty much known by anyone strong enough that will warrant us hiding our skill from them. As it is, having people know we're a six time grandmaster or something at a glance would work wonders with intimidation and persuasion.
>>
>all these faggots thinking kills earned in war are somehow super important
>all these faggots thinking that you gotta be a big bad mofo to decorate your robes
Var var wasn't always walking death. Nigga started somewhere, and I doubt he started decorating after he was a full fledged one man army
>>
>>36725536
Its just your grandmaster elements. Anyway normal nature vatis should be able to sense that we are a water grandmaster with the blue dots on our soul.
>>
>>36725440
Which reminds me, we should not take the test in El-Amin either, we might be able to avoid being an official vatis, thus being allowed to marry and shit.
Remember that state vatis who are GM are expected to work for the state all the time or something.

You consider for a moment how you want to address this issue. You could dress it up a bit, and try to be elegant. You could overexaggerate if you wanted to make sure something got done about it. However, neither seems particularly appropriate considering the seriousness of the issue at hand. At a loss for any way to say what you must delicately, you decide to merely be blunt and clinical.

“Vasuda came to speak with my earlier, while you were eating dinner. She confessed that her husband, Salil, beats her and showed me bruises to prove it. When I healed her wounds, I found that she had four cracked ribs, a fracture in her arm, welts across her back, and bruises running up and down both arms. Now, as I've said. I healed her wounds. She's fine now. However, I believe something must be done about Salil.”

Silence reigns, your father has kept his face carefully devoid of emotion, he merely stares at you impassively. Semiha is less stoic. She looks absolutely panicked, although she's keeping her mouth shut. Just staring at you wide eyed and agape. As for your mother, well, you've never seen her scowl quite so in all your nearly twenty seven years of lie. “I spoke with him earlier, and admit that I may have reacted a bit stronger than I would have liked. He admitted to hitting her, tacitly, and explicitly told me that he'd do as he pleased to his 'whore wife'. I would assume that I am the reason he stormed off earlier.”

Your father shakes his head. “You should have come to me with this first, before you spoke with him yourself. If things 'got heated' as you put it, you may have simply inspired him to take out his dislike for you on Vasuda.” His expression softens. “However, it's better you informed us late than not informing us at all. We'll need to keep this quiet, but I will have a talk with the boy. Honestly, a very gifted lad. I love him dearly, but he needs to think more carefully about things which don't involve money. He's too impulsive.”

(1/2)
>>
Your mother slaps your father lightly on the arm. “Are you kidding me? Do you know what I'd do if you started smacking me or one of my lessers around? You'd have your throat slit that very same night! I'll be damned if I'll put up with one of the boys I helped raised being an abusive little shit!” Well, that isn't the reaction you were expecting from your mother. Honestly, you can't imagine your kindhearted mother slitting your fathers throat. You don't really want to. Your mother turns her attention to you. “You did good, Mikhael. I hope you slapped him upside the head. Maybe he needs some sense knocked into him, fight fire with fire and all that nonsense.”

Your father seems wholly unphased. “Yes, well. Fortunate you're married to me and not my son, then. Fortunate as well Vasuda isn't nearly so willful as you are. Were one of my sons to be murdered by his own wife people would start to ask questions about why she did it. It would be a poor situation all around. No, it's best to handle this calmly and within the family.”

Semiha looks on the edge of tears. “I can't believe he'd do something like that! I always tried to teach him to be nice, how could he turn out this way?” Your mother wraps one arm around her shoulder, pulling her into a hug and patting her back while Semiha starts to sob.

You're still a little shocked after hearing your mother use such course, violent language. Your father turns his attention to you, while your mother consoles Semiha. “Can you provide any insight into just why it is Salil hits her? Has she been unfaithful, or does he think that to be the case? Does she provoke him? Is he just sadistic?”

>He implied that he thinks she's unfaithful.
>He told you that she would prefer to be your bride rather than his.

Oi Soma, does Mik hate Salil enough to knock spicy curry out of it's spot on the list of dislikes?
>>
You clear your throat. “Well, besides the 'whore of a wife' comment he stated that she called out my name on their wedding night.” Your father winces. “Additionally, she told me that he hits her whenever she makes any sort of mistake, but had no idea why he hates her. I'm not entirely convinced either of them are telling the whole truth, but I don't doubt for an instant that Salil hits her.”

Your father shakes his head slowly. “That's... harsh. I can see why he'd be upset. No reason to strike her, of course.” He sighs. “Well, assuming for now that they're both telling the truth I think we ought to find your brother a second wife, more suited to his taste. One preferably unconnected to you. Perhaps with the distraction of a woman he actually likes he'll leave Vasuda alone, and if that fails we'll need to simply separate the two. For now, I think a stern talking to ought to suffice. Tomorrow, I'll call him to the estate.”

You nod. You suppose it's not a terrible plan, though you can't quite shake the feeling that it isn't a good idea to rewards this sort of behavior. That is indeed what this seems to you, a reward. Still, you can't exactly think of any other solutions. The only way to have the marriage annulled would be to have your brother banished, and you don't see that happening. You couldn't exactly have your own brother killed, even if he is detestable. Having Vasuda live entirely separate from your brother seems the best solution to you, but a touch costly and you've no doubt it would prove a lonely existence.

Once your mother manages to calm Semiha down, she provides her own thoughts on the matter. “I think we should skip the new wife and just send Salil away.” That sets Semiha sobbing again, but your mother speaks over the din. “We've enclaves in Aleamond and the successor states where we could send him to live alone, far away from Vasuda. I doubt he'd complain and he'd be able to advance the family's standing abroad. Sending him off to live in some detestable little petty kingdom seems an appropriate punishment for what he's done.”

Your father seems a touch uncomfortable with the idea. “He may be in the wrong, dearest, but I don't think isolating him abroad is the best solution. Surround him with humans and he's like to find himself succumbing to degeneracy.”

>Support your mother's plan, send him away.

She's a good wife/woman/mother for sure but
Step-Mothers:
(41) Semiha Abdul-Hakim: Father's second wife. A beautiful, if dimwitted woman. Very doting. Has always treated you well.
(33) Nadiyya Abdul-Hakim: A distant and cold woman, but unbelievably shrewd. Taught you everything you know about haggling.
(26) Ayda Abdul-Hakim: Father's fourth wife. The last scion of a once wealthy and noble family. Married for her wealth.

With our mom being head bitch she'd need a strong 2nd wife to help run the house/take up the mantle when she can't. I think she's Head Mother in charge of raising the kids while our mom and Nadiyya run the house.

That's how I'd run my harem at least.

An idea strikes you. A brilliant idea. “Father, there's a way for us to use this situation to kill two birds with one stone, so to speak.” Normally you'd probably feel giddy and excited, eager to earn your father's approval. Now though, you just feel a sense of calm confidence. You know your father will love the idea, it's the sort of thing he'd usually come up with.

He turns his attention to you, raising an eyebrow. “Well, how would you suggest we go about doing that? Spit it out, Mikhael. No reason to leave us guessing.”

You clear your throat. “This business with the Demirs is destructive to both of our houses, and you seek to wed Salil to a second wife. Yet at the same time we want to separate him from Vasuda, whom we've established he detest. What I would propose is to marry him to one of the Demirs, and then ship him off to Aleamond or some other such human polity. We wouldn't have to worry about him succumbing to degeneracy and we wouldn't have to worry about him striking Vasuda.”

Your father seems to think on this a moment, weighing the pros and cons no doubt. “What if he were to strike his new wife? Would that not merely raise the ire of the Demirs further instead of brokering the peace you seek? Additionally, why would I want peace with those pompous upstarts?”

You grin. “Hear me out, Father. At the moment we have the upper hand in this little conflict with the Demirs. You sunk their fleet and looted one of their estates. Were we to broker a peace now, it would come across as us being merciful. We are allowing them to bow out with some shred of honor. On the other hand, if they were to strike back against us and we tried to broker a peace afterwards we would come across as beggars.”

(1/2)
>>
>>36726902

Sell it like some kind of a joint venture between the two families where they start some business or something in those lands to advance both families standing..
>>
You hold up a hand to stop your father from interrupting. “As for Salil, if he beats his new wife and the Demirs grow angry with us we'll simply be right back where we began. We won't lose anything by it. That being said, I do not think he is just habitually violent. Growing up I always knew him as more of a schemer than a thug. I'm sure that, in the absence of Vasuda's connection to me, he would've proved a good enough if not necessarily charming husband.”

Your father nods, giving you a sly grin. “Well spoken, Mikhael. Well spoken indeed. Very well, I will send an envoy to the Demirs on the morrow. Gods willing they won't do something stupid like return me his head in a box or some such. Once the envoy is sent off I'll call Salil to the estate and explain my plans for him. I'll be sure to phrase it as a reward for his service to the family. It will take some time to select a bride, organize the wedding, and make arrangements abroad but... he could be off within six months time. That may even be an overestimate.”

Ahh, a scheme well executed. Though you do wonder what will become of Vasuda. You suppose she has handmaidens and servants to keep her company, but it seems a poor substitute for a caring husband.

There is something else going on here with Salil...more than meets the eye...not sure what exactly but he is up to no good and on a scale much bigger than just beating his wife...mark my words...he is possibly involved with the Denir and committing treason against the family...everyone has noticed how he has been much worse than normal later...this indicates a conflict of conscience is going on...

Well, in your mind the issue seems resolved. You've put an end to a conflict which likely would've ended in a war between two of the most powerful noble houses in Pidjata and at the same time resolved the issues between your brother and his first wife in a way that doesn't entirely dick over either party. A good day's work, you didn't even need to resort to burning anyone alive.

A good thing too, because you're feel a touch worn out. You've used a lot of magic today. If you had to estimate, your reserves are just slightly less than half full. A nap, or a session of meditation would be a well earned rest. However, first you'd like to make sure that Vasuda got home safe and that Salil isn't taking out his anger on her, or some such. That in mind, you clear your throat and address your father. “Where will I be staying tonight?”

He waves a hand dismissively. “Any of the rooms will do. Your old room is available, I believe. There are several guestrooms as well. You'll know which rooms are taken and which aren't.”

You shrug. “In that case I suppose I'll take my old rooms. They're familiar, if nothing else. If you'll excuse me I believe I'll retire for the night.”

Your father nods, and you step away. You slip out of your father's study and shut the doors firmly behind you. As you set off towards the living quarters on the opposite end of the estate, you encounter Azra waiting for you by the curtain which separates the dining room from the hall. She smiles to you, shyly. Instead of acknowledging her you simply stride past, not even bothering to cast a look in her direction.

Reinforcement can prevent this.
You are really underestimating Metal since Water can do nothing about bullet to the head while Metal can.
>>
She sighs, following you instead of merely slipping back into the dining room. “Mik, I'm trying to apologize. Can't we just talk?” Of course, now that you've been unbanished she wants to make up. Typical. Where as before associating with you would have earned her nothing but ire from society at large, now you're her ticket into an advantageous marriage. To think, she used to be such a sweet little girl.

You continue walking, rounding a corner into the entry hall. She's still following you, obstinate. She seems quite determined to speak with you. If you were to be perfectly honest, you understand why she betrayed you. It was the smart move, politically. To be seen to detest one's aghtaki brother. That doesn't make it any less insulting that she'd spit on you in front of a crowd of hundreds while you were dragged through the streets, a shamed man. She should have stayed loyal to her family above all else.

When you finally arrive in front of the door to your old room, Azra stops behind you with her arms folded in front of her chest and her proud head held high. She'd grown up to be fairly short, barely over six feet, but quite attractive otherwise. Fine bone structure, long ears, and well built if perhaps a bit small around the bust. Light green eyes and hair with a touch of red, both quite rare among your people.

“You can't just keep giving me the silent treatment, Mikhael. You know I'll bug you until you talk to me. It worked when we were little and it will work now.” Personally, you wouldn't be so sure You've matured quite a bit since then.. “I know what I did was a shitty thing, but I told you before to just keep your mouth shut. Then you went and blabbed about Kadir being a wastrel, and all that other stuff you just made up sure that the people would swallow it whole sale.”

Stop bullying your imouto mik.

It is true, she told you that complaining publicly about then Shahzada Kadir's wastefulness would get you into more trouble than it's worth. You didn't listen to her, and it wound up with you getting banished. She was right but, in your mind, that doesn't excuse her betraying you. Putting the state above loyalty to family.

VOTE

VOTE
2
To calmly slip inside, perhaps with a comment tossed in.

I chose stepping inside calmly over begrudging acceptance because you can always accept the apology later, but most don't seem to want to.

Manipulate+Poison is how you heal poison without almost killing yourself in the process.

Soma answered a question about this and said that we can heal the damage poison does, but not the poison it self and would need to constantly heal our body until it leaves our system or our body becomes immune to it, he said it would be a constant drain on us that would kill us, but that was when we were a vatis i think.

You pull your door open and slip inside, waving a hand dismissively over your shoulder. “A wise man once said, never ruin an apology with an excuse.” You believe it was the scholar Daksin Putra who wrote that. Hedonistic rabble-rouser he might have been, but a clever and charismatic man without a doubt. You don't bother to hear what she has to say, instead merely shutting the door behind you and locking the door.

Finally, alone! Your old room is much as you remember it. A small set of dresser drawers against one wall, a bookshelf in the back corner. You took all your books with you to your master's home, they seem to have filled the shelf with a number of thick ledgers and some decorations. They've changed out the sheets on your bed for some light blue number you're not quite fond of, but other than that it's relatively untouched. You take a quick circuit through the attached bathroom and the sitting area. Besides a few superficial changes, it's exactly as you recall.

You withdraw the prism from your cloak and set it down gently at the center of a small round table in your sitting area. You pull up a chair and sit down, hesitantly wrapping your fingers around the crystal. It pulses with power, throbbing in your hands. You're distracted briefly by a pounding on your door, and a muffled voice, but it stops shortly. You ignore it and return your attention to the prism.

(1/2 or 3)
>>
Focusing your thoughts on Vasuda, you channel just a touch of vys into the prism. You feel your consciousness ripped away from your body, and find yourself staring out at a street in the noble's district. Your perspective seems to be over Vasuda's shoulder. You spy two guards walking ahead of her a fair ways up the street, and one next to her. Presumably there are two others following behind. The one next to her is that hulking mercenary, Koldo. His hands are clasped behind his back and he walks with a sort of military rigidity. You're surprised, you half expected to find Vasuda disheveled and sobbing in an alley.

You watch her for a time. They arrive at your brother's home without being accosted. It's a well appointed home, two story with a small, gated garden in front. A guard stands at the entrance, who salutes Vasuda stiffly. She politely bids farewell to Koldo and your family's guards, though her expressions is far less polite than her words. She stops for a moment to speak with the guard, asking if her husband is in. Upon finding out that he's yet to return, she smiles wide. She's quite obviously relieved.

Now that you've confirmed Vasuda made it home safely, you shift your attention from Vasuda to Salil. Your perception warps, and you feel overcome by a sense of vertigo. When you're once more aware of your surroundings you find your brother, stripped naked, having his way with a woman. Judging by the red bed spread, lace curtains, and the tip jar on the headboard you get the feeling he's found himself a whore to work out his frustrations with. Quite a good looking whore, too.

(2/3)
>>
You quickly withdraw your focus. You didn't need to see your brother bare-assed this evening, but you suppose it's your fault for checking up on him. You wonder how long he's been there, it's been hours since he left the family estate. Regardless, with your attention withdrawn you find yourself sitting in the chair with your hands clenched desperately around the Prism. You suppose you could turn in for the night, or meditate. You might also read. You suppose you could even slip out and explore the city, though that hardly seems wise.

>Meditate on something.

>>36730459

>>
>>36730459
I wanted to sleep first then do it when we woke up
>>
>>36730464
Because void stops spells and we're probably going to have someone shoot lightning at us at some point? Ice wall won't be good enough against that shit.
>>
>>36730475
>We'll sleep when we actually get maluses from our lack of sleep.

Terrible idea
>>
>>36730464
Would be a nice experiment to see what happens, maybe the reason battle meditation is so slow is because its based it self off the old version of meditation, but it could be improved with void meditation.
This is just my guess though.
Another guess is that it just makes out body move by muscle memory while our soul meditates.
>>
>>36730493
Speaking of void stopping spells, we just saw a grandmaster use his most potent offensive technique point blank on Ricky. I think this pretty much confirms that we can use the Void Cloak as a shield against hostile magic.
>>

The void doesn't stop spells.
Void creatures have a high resistance to magic.
is all. And being next to surya and all makes sense.

It would be nice to talk to Ricky about things such as magic. Things he might be able to tell us on it.
And ask about him, his story.
POssibly his contract.
How we can do decent damage to void creatures.
>>
>>36730637
Well, It's not that I don't want to it's that there's other things I want more.
Same as way before now, I basically want all things. But what I want to do right now isn't that, that's all.
>>
>>36730637
That would actually take a while since it is a very complex enchantment.
>>
>>36730650
>How we can do decent damage to void creatures.
Enchanting grants decent power over void creatures.
>>
>>36730663
Listen...there are some things that just are more important than others...we can put some stuff off, but this ring...the runes....we MUST meditate on them. I feel it in my BONES...its important!!
>>
>>36730699
Know where their cores are and piercing them with a spear seemed to do a pretty nice job as well.
>>
>>36730699
Yeah, but which runes?
Even if we know which ones. How would we find them/study them?
With ricky's help we could learn possibly something new.
VOID MAGIC FUCKSONIWANTVOIDMAGIC
>>
>>36730719
It'll take about week since their are two enchantments on that ring we'll have to go through and the enchantment we're looking for on is hard to read and very complex. Not we lack the vys to preform enchanting.
>>
>>36730807
He's not going to teach shit. We'll have to figure it out ourselves.
>>
>>36730807
If you really want, we could try meditating by shooting spells at our cloak/Ricky, and studying how the vys of the spell gets absorbed/deflected, and that would be the beginning.
>>
>>36730906
Amendment; Even if we're successful in understanding its mechanics, that doesn't necessarily mean its going to work on command for a non-void entity, like ourselves.
>>
>>36730836
>It'll take about week

Last enchantment we learn by studying it took a couple of minutes, it was pretty clear and of decent size so escalating the duration to a week is an exaggeration.
>>
>>36730906
yeah that doesn't have much to do with void creatures..
It may be void related. but that doesn't mean it works on void creatures.
It would be better to talk to Ricky.
The one regarded as an elder. Easily thousands of years old.
>>
>>36730927
Only a slight exaggeration since this is much harder to learn
>>
>>36730976
Well, after a few language lessons, some pictograph correspondences, and a heavy dose of patience and charades, we'll maybe be able to. It's unclear.
>>
>>36731027
Or we could give him the brooch and have a perfect understanding of a creature older than possibly some spirits we've come across.
>>
>>36730977

>>
>>36731053
It is unfortunate then that your hurdle is insurmountable.
>>
>>36731053
now, instead of later. With out the risk of not understanding due to not knowing the word.
Also saving us what I assume would be atleast 3-5 votes to teach him a language. since he can only talk to us.
Unless you guys want to put the cloak on Chys and give her the burden of teaching ricky. Which I wouldn't mind at all.
>>
>>36731053

Spirits not the same as void creatures.
The void messenger, the janitor
The "void messenger" was a gods assistant. Doubt he was a void creature too.
and I am lost on who the janitor is.
>>
>>36731302
He thinks in another language. He probably can't speak proper slamjam

Ricky is an elder voidcreature, no less. I'm sure he has his reasons

>>
>>36731287
Telepathy, mind reading, Ricky has no excuse for being unable to communicate.
>>
So can we ask ricky what happens if we give him the brooche?
Instead of assuming it kills us?
He should give a mental image of a possible outcome.
>>
>>36731352
you can understand the language but not speak it. He's a creature of the void and it's probably programmed into him. He probably listens in colors or some weird magic shit.

and what in the hell makes you think the void messenger is a gods assistant?
>>
>>36731382
I'll blame Soma because the first vote for it turned my mind away from ever not thinking of it as "either do it or don't," so a logical compromise was lost.
In other words, just as it is always, Soma is to blame.
>>
>>36730606
Minmaxing is for faggots.
>>
Let's just ask him and get this over with so we can give the brooch to our master already.
>>
Back to Salil for a minute...I really believe we have some hints that something much worse than spousal abuse is going on with him. The comments from his family that he is more moody and more melancholy than ever...the fact that he left his wife behind...there is more going on here than meets the eye. I suspect something...maybe something worse even than familial treason. Can't put a finger on it right now but something very very bad is going on with him...I think the family may be in danger.
>>
>>36731356
Its so simple, yet it escaped all of our minds.
>>
>>36731425
Then I may be confusing your Janitor and void messenger.
Either way one of them was a gods assistant.
