Welcome to the LIII installment of "Disney Villains Victorious."

Disney Villains Victorious is a new /tg/ homebrew project based on the idea of a world, not entirely unlike our own, in which all the villains from all the Disney animated feature films were not defeated at the ends of their movies but were instead victorious, completing their goals in part or in whole.

It is a world in which Ursula rules the seas, defied only by the uncatchable Pirate Lords, the cutthroat merchants of the East India Trading Company and the might of Atlantis and its magitech-toting mercenaries. It is a world where the grasslands and jungles and forests are prowled not only by fearsome primal beasts like Shere Kahn and Scar but also by the ruthless, tireless hunters that stalk them. It is a world where Europe has been divvied up between evil sorcerous monarchs like Maleficent, the Horned King, Grimhilde and Jafar, mad, inquisitorial clergymen like Frollo, and Dark Gods like Hades and Chernobog.

It is not, however, a world completely devoid of courage, heroism or hope. Around the world, the PCs' characters and their allies plot and plan, fight and strive and win their own victories against the villains that would rule them. The time to fight and to be free is now.

Hey, I've started adding Drawfag King's work into the DTP Google Doc. I may make a new doc for DTP art, because adding images with a reasonable format is hard enough without having to reformat every time I add a new fascicle.

Species: Human?

---Attributes---
Robustness: 7/14
Agility: 10/14 (16 when on Horse/Mount)
Intelligence: 14/14
Sensibility: 13/14
Charm: 6/14
Will: 5/5
Strikes: 7+X2, where X is the number of party members.

---Skills---
Athletics: 4
Craft: 7 + 1 from Armor.
Occult: 5
Science: 8 + 2 from role and Armor.
Melee: 5 + 1 from Weapon.
Ranged: 7 + 3 from Weapon.
Prevent Harm: 6 + 3 from Villain trait and Armor.
Endure: 6 + 3 from Villain trait and Armor.

---Traits---
-Villain
This unit is a Villain. It gets +2 to Prevent Harm and Endurance.
-Rider
+1 bonus to combat rolls for every character that has the Rider trait that is in the party or nearby.
-Trust me, I'm a Doctor
+2 on Science, Occult, and Academics if you can somehow explain how your character knows this particular subject.
-Heart of Prometheus
+3 to all rolls involving Occult and Crafting simultaneously.
>>
>>36754252

---Powers---
-Bubonic Master (Unique!)
Machlah can attack with nearly any number or combination of status effects. For each attack, Machlah can choose a status effect to use with it. Status effects also have an AoE of 5m.
Poison
Stun
Bleeding [Each action taken by bleeding unit causes them to lose 1 Robustness and Agility. Cannot be reduced to below 1]
Insanity [SAN LOSS. -2 to Intelligence and Sensibility, cannot be reduced to below 1]
Confusion [33% chance for attacks to hit allies. Hardest to endure]
Plauge [Easiest one to endure, if not endured however, it causes all remaining Strikes to be reduced to zero on plauged unit's third turn.]
-Plauge Master (Unique!)
For one Will point, unit can summon X Spirits of Plauge in to X corpses. Spirits of Plauge are considered average Lackeys, and can inflict Poison, Stun, and Plauge. X is determined by Occult+Intelligence+Craft/10, if the number is a decimal, round.
-Grey Rider
Unit is or is a servant of Pestilence itself. After inflicting a status effect, there is a 33% chance unit can roll to inflict it again.
-DOCTOR!
For one Will point, unit can make a Science or Craft roll against TN35 to heal a chosen target for 5 Strikes.
-Apocalypse (Combination Attack)
For one Will point each, the Apocalypse Crew load HE rounds into their respective weapons, or just throw HE items, and fire/throw them into the air, causing an intense barrage in a 30m area. Combat roll is R5 divided by 3, where R is each Apocalypse Crew's members' Ranged Attack. Barraged units suffer from each rider's [Blank] Rider power, no matter the range or Will points. Power boosting Rider powers just get activated for free. Passive powers have their effect doubled.
>>
>>36754365
---Equipment---
-Scalpel: Pretty sharp. One-Handed, grants +1 to Melee.
-Syringe Rifle: Modified rifle to shoot syringes, globs, and regular bullets filled with poisons. Two-handed, grants +3 to Ranged.
-Grey Medical Practitioner's Clothes: Pretty fancy. Light Armor, grants +1 to Prevent Harm, Endure, Science, and Craft.

Physical Description/Background: Seemingly nothing but a typical 19th century doctor with gray clothes, what lurks beneath is far more sinister. He comes into town, "helping" anyone who's sick, when in reality, he takes the diseases to make his poisons and other plauges all the better. He seemingly cures the diseased patients, but after a week, maybe a month, sometimes even TWO months, the disease comes back, and more powerful and contagious ever. Why does he do it? Nobody knows. Just whatever you do, never see "The Good Doctor".

Colour theming will be important for atlantis. In the movie the mercs were in green and the natives were in blue - the society's colours should reflect the social makeup if we're going to run with the theming decisions. We could have a 'military elite' wearing mostly green military and the masses in blue more atlantean-looking stuff or we could mix fabrics to indicate a generally egalitatian american-atlantean community.

>we could mix fabrics to indicate a generally egalitatian american-atlantean community.

This is essentially the idea I was going with when I annotated Mary's reference picture. Rourke's military adopts blue as their uniform color to represent that they're proudly Atlantean. It also shows that they have transitioned from a mostly land-based fighting force to a mostly sea-based fighting force, and gives them "brand recognition" both in-game and on a meta level.

On the other hand, I imagine that while blues, purples and greens are still popular among the Atlantean people, they now enjoy dressing in a rainbow of colors and more modern styles as well to reflect the "Atlantean Americana" aesthetic we've been going for.

So, last night's session got me thinking about some mechanics: Songs are a big thing in Disney movies, but they're always significant; they reveal important things about characters, accompany character development, etc. They're always a big deal. Never mind the balance implications of being able to whip out a +5 or +6 bonus to anything whenever you please; breaking out in song for every single action you take just cheapens the whole thing. Perhaps we need a mechanic to ensure songs only happen at dramatically appropriate times?
>>
>>36759259
Glad to see you're back! Very nice job!

>>36759319
Ideally, it ought to be the player that stays mindful of the times in which breaking out into song is appropriate, so I'm hesitant to try and limit this ability, but you do make a point that some future players may be inclined to use the ability far too often

I hate to complicate things by adding more game mechanics into what is already proving to be a fairly balanced and workable system, but what about something like... making the actual singing of the song tied to Will Points?

>Spend one Will Point: +2
Whistle an uplifting tune or hum a cheery little ditty.

>Spend two Will Points: +4
Sing-song a few lines of encouragement or recite an inspiring poem.

>Spend three Will Points: +6
Burst into song, lifting everyone's spirits and urging them on to greatness!

I'm fully aware that this might be completely stupid and overcomplicated, so please feel free to ignore it.

Also: I'm still looking for a clothing reference for Hannah before I move on to compiling Jeremiah's reference picture. Any suggestions?
>>
Skimmed through last thread and noticed the Behemoth discussion. What if the Atlantians developed Behemoth to combat the Olympian Titans, should they escape?
>>
>>36759319
I think it would be worth a shot making it so that you gotta spend a Will Point to sing.

If you get a high score or fulfill an ideal/goal with it yo uget the will point back, if not tough shit

>>36759615

What if Rourke found the blueprints to the Ziz and the Behemoth that weren't built before, but he decided "Well, ain't this interesting?"
>>
>>36758247
I think I missed the pastebin for the DTP West one. Anyone still have it?
>>
>>36759638
I'd reckon that something that size and complexity would take an Atlantean lifespan to build
>>
>>36759615
>>36759638
Behemoth and Ziz may exist, or they may be wild goose chases Milo sent Rourke on. In either event, the Atlanteans were at war with someone. Leviathan was a weapon for that war, and if they existed Behemoth and Ziz would be as well.
>>
>>36759641
Which one are you thinking of? I thought that they were all there but maybe I'm mistaken?

>>36759638
>>36759615

I think it was discussed a bit in the last thread that references to Behemoth and Ziz may best be treated as background fluff, at least until the primary Atlantean campaign in which Rourke is dealt with comes to completion.

Behemoth, the simplest construct and the oldest may possibly, POSSIBLY be buried under the jungle surrounding Queen La's Lost City of Opar, if the rumors of Opar originally being an Atlantean city turn out to be true.

Leviathan, the second war machine, was damaged by the Crystal Super Nuke and the Great Flood that followed, losing its limited flight capabilities and locking its programming into an Atlantis Perimeter Defense protocol.

>Ziz, most advanced of the three constructs was in its final design stages when its project was put on hold, the King having decided to use the Crystal Super Nuke to try and end the war a bit more quickly.
>>
>>36759890
Didn't mean to highlight only Ziz there.

>>36759741
>>36759765

Exactly. Their locations, capabilities and existence are the stuff of speculation, rumors and old stories.

The only one who would know for sure what they are capable of or if they were ever real at all would be Kidagakrystal.

From its biblical entry, I'd say that Ziz was far along enough in its construction that it looked completed from the outside.

Also, Genesis mentions that these 3 beasts will be slain at the end of times, their flesh to be consumed by the pious and the rest of their bodies used to shelter and clothe them. Broken telephone metaphor for plans of disarmament when the war was over?

I could get behind this interpretation. Again, we've got to take care to keep this as fun, unobtrusive background fluff until it's useful and needed, but I would say that it could make for a great endgame Atlantean campaign.
>>
>>36760334
Well look at that! I never noticed the other two in the background. That definitely changes things if we wanted to construe them as unique constructs.
>>
>>36760334
Can't confirm those two in the background are of the same size; I'd say they're not, so that the Leviathan is something truly special and one of a kind.

>>
>>36760343
Agreed, but this is just one of those things where there's so much cool speculation to be had, I just can't help myself. If it bugs you, think of it as "this is what Milo is telling Rourke to keep him on his wild goose chase".

>Yahweh was able to make the Behemoth eat grass.....so maybe the Behemoth could consume vegetation as a back-up energy source?
>There were originally two Leviathans, but Yahweh killed the female when he realized they'd wipe out all life in the sea if they propagated.....so one of them was scrapped when they found they didn't have the resources to keep two of them running.
>Ziz was said to block out the sun with its wings....so it's likely that it was built enough that the wings could be spread.
>>
>>36760485
>Behemoth eat grass

sucks entire acres into it's gut as fuel for its Godbeams

although, it's fair to assume that the legends were coming from primitive people who saw the Atlantian weapons at work
>>
>>36759594
Why should singing should be limited? You already have to sacrifice one Move per turn to keep a song up, which seems pretty balanced to me. Also, you just described the +2 bonus you can already get from spending a will point, from a crunch perspective, you just removed Music.
>>
>>36760478

>The Behemoth: This construct was the simplest and oldest of the three great classes of Atlantean War Machines, but it was also the biggest and was built as a one-off due to its great size. It is possibly, POSSIBLY buried under the jungle surrounding Queen La's Lost City of Opar, but no one is sure whether it was meant to protect the city or destroy it.

>The Leviathan: The second of the three great classes of Atlantean War Machines, this construct was smaller than the first and featured an amphibious design that was better suited to Atlantis' maritime machinations. As such, several were built over the course of the war, one of which has survived the Great Flood and protects Atlantis' borders to this day.

>The Ziz: The third of the three great classes of Atlantean War Machines was to meant to be some sort of aerial weapons platform, and would have been the most technologically advanced of the three classes if the development of the Crystal Super Nuke and the Great Flood hadn't permanently ended the project.
>>
>>36760683

Not necessarily. It could just be using chemical energy that is stored in plant matter. That being said, I am pretty much impartial on this. It could be cool, it could be bad.

>>36760670
A ton, sometimes to do nothing at all, because I am playing a musician. That is what he does. Also, our games have far more stabbing, far more healing, and far more action in various other forms than the movies, but you don't really complain about that. Why does music have to conform to the source material more than everything else?
>>
>>36760676

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_w1upGFwyyU
>>
>>36760780
Huh, so they can. They might not necessarily be producing the blasts though, just the emitters. The actual energy probably comes from its internal power source.

Hydraulic manipulators/ beam array maybe?
>>
>>36760719
6 times, Pond. 6 times. More than the entire cast will do in a single movie, and 3 times what any given character will do in a single movie.

Violence is inherent to a dark setting, even if it is noble as well. It is to be expected in great quantities in this setting. Music was the brightest thing we carried over from the original works, and you used it in one session, probably an in-game hour, more than it was used in any of the source material.

Never mind that you were handing out bonuses of +5 and +6 like religious pamphlets at an airport by merely spending an action, while the rest of us would've had to spend a will point to gain any such bonuses on our own.
>>
>>36760578
>>36760683

Again, it's fun to speculate, but we've got to remember that this is all just potential background fluff and not to get too hung up on it at this stage of game development. The primary focus of low-through-medium level Atlantean campaigns is to win the hearts and minds of the Atlantean people and change Rourke's foreign policy toward more humanitarian ends. Any quests or missions directly related to Atlantean War Machines would have to come afterward.

>>36760712

That might be just a biiiiiit much.

We should probably get to statting the remaining kings. I admit that fluff is a bit more fun than crunch for me, but it needs to get done.
>>
>>36760846
Of course, convincing Rourke that these war machines exist (if Milo hasn't already) and that you have some idea where they are would give you significant influence over his actions.
>>
>>36760719
>>36760670
How many times do Disney protagonists generally get badly injured to the point where they can't move (Defeated, to use our terms) per movie? I'd say once in a whole movie is being generous. I was taken down 3 times, Nick once, so that's a total of 4. So, there is another discrepancy. We are not in a Disney movie, we are in a TTRPG based on Disney movies as a genre. Things will be different, but as long as we maintain the essence of the setting, things will be fine.

Also, I was the one who was for nerfing music, if you'll recall from a while back. I thought that bonuses scaling with 20,25,30,35,40 for +3,+4,+5,+6,+7 would unbalance the game. (I believe the system I proposed was 25,30,45,65 for +3,+4,+5,+6 instead, and I still think that it would be better). Also, my character is literally a street musician. Music is built incredibly heavily into his character, his best item is his prized guitar, his On-A-Roll goal is to inspire a crowd of at least 200 with a masterpiece performance, inspiring people to do good through music is one of his ideals, and his Heroic goal is to take down a king and make his castle into the greatest school of music the world has ever seen.
Music is such a fundamental part of the character of Armand, more so than really anyone else in most Disney films.
Also, I present Clopin from the Hunchback of Notre Dame, who sang 4 songs: The Bells of Notre Dame, it's reprise, Topsy Turvy Day, and The Court of Miracles. That is 4 for one character

Per movie, you have the 4 from Clopin, Out There, God Help The Outcasts, A Guy Like You, and Hellfire, for a total of 8 songs in a movie.

Typically once, but that happens more often than the bad guys winning, which is the entire premise of the setting. It's a change that comes with the fact that the setting is Nobledark instead of Noblebright. The songs are a sign of brightness; it would only make sense if they popped up as or less frequently as they popped up in the movies. Not to mention that they shouldn't pop up for insignificant things.

I just had an idea that could work as a compromise between the sides for music. What if we made a difference between just making music and going into a full on Disney Musical number?

Make Music as it is cost a will point, but also make a lesser version that doesn't to represent more mundane, day-to-day music making?

>Hellfire
>Sign of Brightness
Songs are not a sign of brightness, they are signs of the expression of powerful emotion most of the time (Part of Your World, Hellfire, Colors of the Wind, Let It Go, God Help The Outcasts, I could go on), or they are used for characterization (Never Had A Friend Like Me, Friends on the Other Side), or they are sometimes used just to deliver exposition in a fun and entertaining way to the audience (Do You Want To Build A Snowman, Down In New Orleans)
>>
>>36761449
Can someone possibly give me some reference pics for Hannah, Sverd and any other major characters? And maybe some simple character descriptions?

In addition, I think visualizing our victorious villians and defeated protagonists will work out too. Maybe Facillier is covered in voodoo tattoos, older Milo is sporting a ragged beard, that sort of thing. I'll work on those as inspiration hits.
>>
>>36761470
And you used as a means to get a bonus on almost every action you took. Not once did I see a dramatically appropriate cause to express powerful emotion (you had literally just met every character that was in the session, and no reason to be particularly passionate about anything going on), show characterization or deliver exposition.
>>
>>36761431
Or we could just do the sensible thing, make music just not give the fuckhueg bonuses we have it currently set to.
>>36761611
Why do you hate music so much? Does somebody playing a song make you boil with rage inside? Do you just want to make Music cost Will points so a musician character (e.g. my character) is near-useless? Did a street musician kill your family? I honestly don't know why this, this in particular, enrages you so. Please, just live and let live.

Did anybody other than Knightfag who was in the campaign actually have less fun because music is a thing?

>>36761779
Knight, we made something a part of the system and he's using it. Open combat is at least as rare as songs in Disney movies. Should we require every character to try to avoid all combat situations before fighting, or tell everyone about how they have finally had enough of some mistreatment that has to last at least 3 sessions before they try to fight, or make them only able to fight if they were attacked first?

He's abusing it to gain a bonus to every possible roll instead of using it on special occasions as it was intended; clearly, we must put something in place to prevent this abuse. The requirement of a will point seems like a fair solution.
>>
>>36761941
The issue here is whether or not it is your job or the job of the GM to develop your character. If you have to wait for someone else to give you your secret prompt that you can't tell anyone and they have to guess before you let your character develop in any way, or if you demand that someone give your character a girlfriend to make him develop his character, then you put the responsibility of developing your character on the GM and the rest of your party almost completely. It seems like it would be a bit more appropriate if you took a bit of initiative to develop your character on your own. Also, if you didn't work actively against it by exploding the waifu that was made explicitly to submit to your demands to have a woman to calm down your character and then laughing about it to her face.
>>
>>36761941
Don't worry mang, it was just the heat of the moment. Nobody's gona go too hard on old Nick. Worst i can do is force you to meditate.
>>
>>36761978
I repeat, did anyone else's enjoyment of the game suffer due to the fact that my character was able to sing?

Also, it is mechanically balanced (or it would be if we properly set the bonuses) by the fact that I use up half my turn to do better on the other half. It takes one move to start/maintain a song. This song buffs my actions on the other move. I effectively just gave up half a turn in order to get a significant bonus. That is not unbalanced to the point of making it use a Will Point. Will Points are used for Powers to gain a Music-sized bonus without sacrificing half your turn, so making Music just the shittiest power just renders the whole thing irrelevant.
>>
>>36761930
Heres Jeremiah picture
>>
>>36762018
Note that Coyotes wasn't my idea, and that I did not mean to explode her. My intent there was (perhaps slightly out of character, sorry) to display Nick's immaturity and retarded values, prompting Coyotes/ the group to do something. Everyone just kinda decided to murder at that point. Also note that Character development by it's very nature requires other people and usually significant events to make sense, ESPECIALLY in Disney. We should really be statting Kings though, I don't think this is a major issue.
>>
>>36762018
The waifu wasn't his idea at all; look back in the transcript of the first session. Said waifu does not exist to 'calm' him so much as to rein him in and teach him how not to be a fucktard (or at least, a less irritating fucktard), and it is genre appropriate for the naive, high energy and not exactly bright character to fuck up spectacularly upon first meeting his designated love interest.

>>
>>36762092
>was able to sing?
>implying the ability to sing at all is the issue at hand
Nice strawman.

This is not about balance (and if it were I would point out that music is a means to make yourself better at 105 skill and attribute combinations by investing in one skill and one attribute, and that furthermore powers that give a +5 bonus to everything for a will point have a narrow set of circumstances under which they apply). This is about what is dramatically appropriate. I strongly suspect that, given the opportunity, you will use music to give yourself a bonus to every roll that you can. Music was not intended for that. It was meant to be something special, reserved for certain circumstances. If the honor rule can't hold players to that, then clearly a written rule must be put into place that does.

Murderhobo may have been the wrong word. I meant that they would fit any party that goes through a normal campaign.

Zero:assemble a party. First step of any standard campaign
On-A-Roll: Do something to get noticed. Take down a mid-level boss, for instance. This fits a theoretically infinite number of situations So long as you aren't being a super-secret group that nobody knows about, being noticed will happen.
Hero: Just the On-A-Roll goal, but more.

The only point was that the goals don't say a huge amount about the character as an individual.

>Martin av Sverdkyldige

>Quite tall at 6’1, Sverd has the lean but athletic figure of a muscular fencer or runner (A little less buff than the average Disney Prince, but not by much). His face is quite handsome, but, more than that, young – Between his kind, ice blue eyes, totally unbesmirched pale skin and usually-smiling fresh face, one could almost mistake Sverd for a teenager. His short, uneven platinum blonde hair doesn’t help the matter much either, and if he has any stubble, it’s invisible against his light but healthy-looking skin. Sverd doesn’t seem to pay much attention to his appearance – it looks like he cuts his hair with a knife – but it still compliments the rest of his face quite well. He’s usually wearing a plate-and-fur set of armor with no helmet, emblazoned with a heraldic wolf and two swords that seems in need of a cleaning, with form-fitting leather underneath. His implausible prettiness draws a lot of attention, sometimes good but more often than not bad.

You are correct about it fitting a wide amount of situations, but I don't think that makes them 'generic'. Goals are the manifest ultimate wishes of a character, and Nick's is to actually do something noteworthy. The fact it's something that happens usually along the course of a campaign without going out of their way does not change that becoming particularly and INDIVIDUALLY legendary (Not just as a group) is his ultimate goal.

This is the only thing I am going to say on the subject, so expect no responses, as I'm leaving my computer for a bit after posting this.

The real issue here is that Sverd has created a character who, by having fun, detracts from everyone else's experience, but can be fixed if the GM and the rest of the party give him the right prompts to grow. Of course, everyone agreed that we have to do that, because we don't want the immature asshole version of Nick that we have right now to be there the whole campaign, because that would make the game as a whole unpleasant, which we don't want. However, we failed to give him the right prompts, and he responded to this by throwing explosives in the face of an NPC because that is what an unchanged Nick would do. (He did not know what he was doing, but Nob made it flash powder, maybe to try to tell him something, maybe not, I'm not in a position to claim to know what Nob is trying to communicate with this, or if he's just trying to be realistic with what powder she'd have in her pouch.) In any other setting this character would be risking some rocks falling or something similar, but because Nick bears some resemblance to certain Disney protagonists, he has been given something of a free pass on a lot of issues. That being said, he toed the line as to what is acceptable, even in this setting, and he should consider taking actions to fix this. I made a bad character at the beginning of the session and replaced him with a more complex, more interesting character the next week. That is an extreme option, and I would not want to force it on anyone, but Sverd may want to consider taking some actions, not re-rolling necessarily, but maybe some rundown changes or other modifications over this next week to make Nick more pleasant to work with for the rest of the party. We could easily vote the changes into existence as a use of Rule 0. Not saying that this is a Thing That Must Be Done, just putting it out there as an option.
>>

I'm not playing the campaign, but I'd fucking love to have a straight-up Disney character like Nick in mine instead of the sospechsul shit my group usually pulls. Seriously, what the fuck is your issue with Sverd? He's made some of the most genre-savvy and entertaining characters, including Nick, out of everyone so far and yet you consistently want to remove or get them out of the way. Can you really not stand anyone else playing a decent character that isn't some weird sulking backgroundfag? Honestly everything you've done in the campaign so far has been detrimental and serves only to propel your made up OOC rivalries that aren't mutual. God fucking damn.
>>

Remember when I called you a That Guy a while back? Yeah? This is exactly the kinda shit I'm talking about. Jesus H Christ this is one of the worst things I've ever read. Then, consider why this entire paragraph is utterly horrid and your idiotic fake rivalries 100% created and imagined by you threaten to break or fuck up play testing of an interesting system. There is most certainly a problem in the group, but it sure as hell is not the developing genre-savvy lovable rogue, it's YOU.

What if the Music skill was twice or three times as harder to get compared to other skills? As in Music costs double or three times as much compared to other skills.

Or maybe make a limit on it saying "Music is only useable once per scene by a character", meaning a character can only use music once in a battle or whatever. To help balance it out.

Or just say that a character has to justify their reason for singing/playing their instrument.

Or make it so that singing/playing takes up two actions, so it takes up your whole turn early on, but as you get closer to Hero tier, you get more actions, so you can sing and attack.

It's good to know my writing still turns head around here and isn't ignored. Conceited? Maybe.

More to the point, here's...a taste of things to come.

Noelle Collins slammed her head on the polished stone floor. “I did *not* need this shit today.”

“Quiet!” The butt of a rifle smacked her across the back. Noelle yelped in surprise. “No tricks now! C doesn’t like tricks. No he doesn’t. Not one bit.”

“Easy C, cool it.” The masked man’s similarly masked accomplice called out from across the room. “No mixups today, man.”

Noelle grit her teeth, regretting visiting the bank as the first thing to check off her list on what was shaping up to be a fine Thursday. It was supposed to be a milk run: drop off last week’s check that she had forgotten to turn in on Monday because work had gotten in the way, then meet with her boyfriend across town for her lunch break, finally rounding out the day with a bit of yoga, some red wine with dinner, and a chapter of Cormac McCarthy.

Instead, the 26-year-old barista-by-day found herself ziptied and belly down on the floor of San Fransokyo First National Bank, an unwitting hostage in the middle of a 4-man heist. She silently wondered if the tellers had rung a silent alarm, or if someone had been able to get a phone call out to the police right before two of the men—“C” and “D”—subdued the security while “H” and “W” disappeared up an “Employees Only” staircase set behind the bank teller desks set along the far wall, no doubt to find the vault.

Noelle had been taking mental notes soon after the security guards were incapacitated and the lightning guns came out. They called each other out by single letters—most likely first letters in names. They wore face masks, uniquely painted. Trim, matching black suits indicated a bit of sophistication. Their hardware suggested black market interaction. They moved quickly, knowing exactly where the guards were posted, showing they had cased the bank probably weeks before. Depending on how quick they could get through the vault, it was likely they would be getting out of the bank millions richer and completely anonymous. Noelle had to hand it to them: they were veterans of the craft.

If only they had chosen a different day to pull this job.

“Pssst. Hey.” She stopped her struggling to look behind her to the owner of the voice, an older gentleman with a thick mustache and wiry arms. “What’s your name, kid?”

“Noelle,” the girls whispered behind her.

“Noelle—good name. French.” The man inched closer on his belly. “I’m gonna need your help, Noelle.”

“Please don’t tell me you’re thinking of taking out these guys...?”

“Bob—call me Bob.” The man gave Noelle a wink. “And yeah, we could take ‘em.”

“Bob, I’m not sure that’s a good idea,” Noelle reasoned.

“Good idea?” Bob chuckled. “A good idea would have been quitting whiskey and cigarettes before my lungs and liver started to give out. A good idea would have been settling with the frumpy redhead in college and not pursuing the racy sorority girl. No—the world is built on bad ideas, Noelle. We just have to make the best of ‘em.”

“Quiet!” The man known as “C” booted Bob in the side. “Talk again and C will be roasting marshmallows with what’s left of your head after 1.21 gigawatts flies through it!”

“Keep coolio, C,” the man known as “D” warned. I don’t wanna stay here any longer than we need to.”

The masked man known as “C” took a glimpse outside. “How much longer ‘till we’re in?”

“W says two more minutes.” The leader paused for a thought. “You know what? Get down there and help W and H—I’ll keep things tied down out here.”

“You got it, D.” The heister with the stylized weeping clown mask nodded before stepping off to help his companions downstairs.

D turned to the huddled groups waiting on the bank’s floor and sitting by the teller desks. “Okay, everyone! Just a couple more minutes of your time is all me and my companions ask! We’re not here for your money, we’re here for the bank’s money—your money is insured by the federal government. Remember: no phone calls, no funny business. Once me and my company are done, you’ll be set freeAAAAAGH!”

The robber dropped onto his knees, three inches of steel sticking out of his thigh. Bob had broken the plasticuffs after he had been booted in the kidneys, waiting for the perfect opportunity. The ex-lineman swung a meaty fist straight down the center of the robber’s mask. Noelle didn't expect someone as bulky as Bob to move that fast.

Neither did she expect for the man’s fist to rocket the heister across the bank lobby’s floor, smashing through the plexiglass plate on the far wall that separated tellers from customers. She turned to the man, his scraggly beard and ratty faded NASCAR tee doing well to obscure his identity. “You-” she stammered. “You’re a—”

“Coulda sworn that was a love tap.” Bob grinned.

“But I thought all the Supers were—”

“Yeah, well.” Bob simply pulled Noelle’s plasticufs apart. “Sometimes things slip through the cracks.”

Noelle picked herself up off the floor, dusting herself off. “So what happens now, ‘Bob’?”

“/Now/ I go upstairs and take care of business with those three robbers.” The aging superhero cracked his knuckles.

“I’m coming with you.”

“No—I need you to get these hostages out of here, then call the cops.” Bob made way for the teller desks, stretching the cricks out of his back.

Noelle’s face scrunched up in confusion, then disbelief. “Bob, I think I can handle myself against a couple thieves—”

“Denied, Noelle.” Bob turned back, focusing his gaze on Noelle’s slighted face. “I’m doing this one alone.”

If Noelle had a quirky, hurt, or otherwise witty quip to respond to the aging Super, it was quickly wiped away by the sudden flinging of shattered glass and disintegrated masonry into the bank as the entrance was aggressively widened and heightened. The telltale cackle of manaical laughter drifted through the expanded doorway. “San Fransokyo First National!” The voice called out, the stamp of boots on polished stone reverberating in the bank’s high ceiling.

A figure passed through the doorway, partially silhouetted by settling dust. She stepped into view, right into the beams of morning light streaming through the bank’s high windows. Her dark skin countered starkly against her bone-white armor. Electric blue trim popped against the painted steel, highlighting her joints and running in straight lines down the smooth, interlocking plates. A holo-screen was built into her right vambrace. Metal cables snaked their way from the back of the armor and down the arms, terminating right above the wrist. The left side of her head was shaved down bare, the right a mess of wild, short dreadlocks. A pair of hot purple-tinted glasses covered large brown eyes.

Noelle thought in then back of her head that this entrance was too good to not have been rehearsed.

“This is a bank robbery, ladies and gents!” The newcomer bared her teeth in a wild grin. “Everyone get their hands in...the...air.” The enthusiasm left her voice as she saw the pair of civilians standing in front of her, the banks’ tellers cowering in one corner, and the rest of the bank’s patrons huddled in small packs on the ground or lying on the ground with cable ties wrapped around their hands. “Oh, for God’s sake.” She smacked her face with her palm, sliding it downward. “Don’t tell me /you/ two got here before me.”

“Well, no. Not really, no.” Noelle scratched the back of her head. “See, there was this other group of dudes that—”

“Hang on.” Bob pointed toward the new arrival. “Who exactly are you with that getup?”

“Me?” The armored woman tossed back her head. “The name is DownBeat! Musical heister and villain extraordinaire!” She struck a pose in the morning sun.

Bob pinched the bridge of his nose. “I had almost forgotten how ridiculous this line of work could be.”

“Oh yes!” DownBeat grinned. “And I have come here today to make a withdrawal! So if you two would join the rest of the bank patrons on the ground so I can get past you—”

“We’re not letting you through.” Noelle stepped forward.

“Wait—‘we’?” Bob turned to the black haired girl.

“Bob, not right now.” The girl cracked her knuckles. “I have been through way too much shit today, and I think a little bit of catharsis is in order.”

The supervillain scoffed. “And what are /you/ gonna do about it, girlie? Glare at me through your black-rimmed glasses until I give up from intimidation?”

The barista grinned. “Not exactly.” Her left hand steadily crept over the activation panel on her smartwatch, not a moment breaking her gaze with the rookie supervillain.

The laser drill cut through the last inch of steel with a high-pitched whine, blasting out cleanly the other side. The well-dressed man monitoring the drill switched the drill off. “Okay, that should do it for the main door.”

“Nicely done, W.” The man known as C slapped the technician on the back. “H, help me get that drill outta the way.”

The drill apparatus and digital readout connected to was disassembled quickly and moved out of the way, allowing the remaining heister to half pull, half push the gigantic door free from the wall. He blinked from behind his mask as he stood in the doorway. “Oh. Damn.”

The vault’s interior stretched out cold and gray, a two-story concrete mausoleum plump with riches. Individually locked cells lined the walls, within each cell stood tables with large bricks of bills or bullion or both. Safety deposit boxes lined the backs of the cells, contents hidden to the world. C and H stood on either side of W, admiring the accumulated wealth. “Bloody fucking Norah,” H breathed.

“Okay, we are *definitely* gonna need more bags,” W suggested.

“Well it ain’t gonna get itself outta here.” C holstered his rifle and unclipped his lightning pistol from his holster. He then proceeded to the closest locked cell and blasted open the lock with a low-power shot, swinging the bars open wide. He produced a large duffel bag from the folds of his coat, expanding the bag to swallow up the large bricks of neatly stacked dollar bills.

His accomplices followed in suit, blasting open the locks nad bagging the money. Soon a pile of bags, filled with purloined cash and bullion were scattered close to the door. “How much do you think is in here, fellas?” W called out, dropping down a bag filled with gold bars from the upper level.

“Enough, W.” C simply pushed a large brick of dollars into a duffel bag on the floor beside the table.

“I just hope that damn chopper pilot is on the roof when D gives the go-ahead. ” H said. “Speaking of, the hell is the old man?”

“Babysitting up top.” C flung another bag of loot onto the pile, dusting off his hands. “Least he should be—W, could you get ahold of him?”

“Hold on,” W chimed, switching on his comlink. “D, you there? Hello?”

A pause. Silence responds from the other end.

“D, this is W. Vault’s open and we’re loading the loot now. Copy?”

Still nothing.

“He isn’t responding.” W shrugged.

“I’ll get ‘im.” H zipped up another duffel bag. “You guys got this handled?”

“Just let D know we’re finishing up here,” C said as he swung open another vault cell door.

“Yeah, yeah.” H hopped through the vault doorway, bounding down the hallway at a slow jog. So far, the heist had been going expediently. It would probably take awhile to get the money cleaned, but as soon as it came through the four of them would be rolling in it. In the back of his mind, H thought it might be worth it to sift through a couple of the safety deposit boxes, but decided against it as he rounded the corner to cross the stairwell.

And nearly had his face melted off by a sickly green radioactive charge.

H dropped to the ground in an instant, then turned back when he heard hissing coming from the wall behind him. The radioactive burst that had missed his head had impacted the wall, and had started to melt the stone at the impact site. “What the fuck—?!” He turned back to the bank floor, peering from behind the stone bannisters to the chaos below.

At first glance, he had thought a rave had been dropped into the middle of the bank floor. Then he noticed even more of the melted away holes in the walls and ceiling of the bank. The hostages had long since fled—no doubt through the gigantic hole that used to be the bank’s entrance.

Three subjects remained, the cause of the continuing fracas. Two he knew to be Supers from their arms and armor. The white one was laughing as she bounced through the air, no doubt due to the rounded hoverpack on her back. Music seemed to be coming from her armor—‘that damned dubstep shit the kids all like to play,’ H thought. Energy seemed to pulse from her hands in time with the music, a collection of small bolts and large, long lances leaping from her hands.

Her target appeared to be wearing oversized metallic gauntlets and metal boots, and was running along the floor as the stream of energy pulses chased her. The skin between the arms and legs appeared to be covered by a lightweight Grid-produced combat skin, synthetic muscle plied under a light armor layer. H had remembered D was considering purchasing a set for the crew, but costs were explicitly prohibited. He saw the silver figure hurl a flurry of radioactive bolts from her hands, each one dodged effortlessly by the flying figure.

It made H almost feel a tinge of sympathy when she noticed the third figure, a larger, older man with a scraggly beard and faded NASCAR tshirt, pick up a teller’s desk and fling it at the flying figure head on.

H had seen a lot of things in his forty-something years of existence. Years ago he could recall his first heist, robbing a convenience store in his hometown for pocket money. Weeks ago he could just taste the Polynesian Pearl Diver sitting in his hand as he watched a tan-lined goddess emerge from the Bahamas. Just seconds ago he could just swear he witnessed a large, seemingly normal man pick up a desk and fling it like it was a stuffed animal. ‘Oh, fucking hell.’ H clenched his teeth, scooting out of view behind the corner before picking himself up and running back to the vault.

W and C were waiting for him when he returned, W counting the bags and C keeping watching. “Well?” C asked.

“We have a problem.”

I feel like the best solution is to make two different categories for songs.

One category is a song that is a plot point that can only be used a certain amount of times per session. In a Disney movie, this would evolve background music, and NPCs randomly joining in.

The second is for characters who play their own instrument like Pond. The bonuses are lessened to a certain degree for these. They are for giving bonuses to do small, not incredibly dramatic, plot-wise, tasks.

Although, when I play this with my friends, since most of us are musicians, I'll make it so they actually have to write lyrics, a melody, and chords. If they play it and I, or whoever is GM, thinks it's good, they automatically complete whatever task they were trying to accomplish through the bonuses.
>>
Okay, I'm back. Not weighing in on Sverd, just on the personal attacks on me.

I do remember. You're the guy who likes calling me a retard and just shitting on me at every possible opportunity. Thank you for your contribution to the thread, but please stop. I understand that you think I'm the scum of the Earth who wants to make everything 3.pf and that you think that ad hominem is a valid substitute for a real response, but please stop. You've made your point, which is just that I'm shitty. Thank you for your input, but just leave or move on, please.
>>36764253
Nice job. You brought back wizards. I was afraid we had moved past that, but nice to see that you are keeping the thing that made you seem the craziest back to life. Accusing everyone of being a secret wizard does not do a single positive thing, but I'm glad that you are committed to preventing the thread from not being toxic and shitty.
Also, I'm confused as to why you did what you did for music. If I understand correctly, during the session, you thought I was using it too much, so rather than talk to me about it, you bitched on the thread. Then, after the session, you could have talked to me about it, but you decided that instead, the reasonable thing to do was to try to change the system out from under my character, altering the entire game in order to deal with an issue you had with me, a fellow player. Why not just talk to me about it like a normal, reasonable person with social skills?

As for music, I like the ideas of requiring justification or >>36767347, if you replace the word "session" with "scene", just so the game doesn't work differently with long and short sessions, and between scenes is when you regain everything else, namely Will Points.
>>
>>36767856
You regain will points at a rate of 1/day or all at the start of a session unless otherwise noted.

Also; why is there so much talking about the campaign in the thread? We shouldn't be weighing in on what we think of the players, but instead how the mechanics are working.
>>
>>36767856
>Why not just talk to me about it like a normal, reasonable person with social skills?

Actually, my point is that your bonnafide retarded 'rivalries' and inability to work with other players or people in general is deeply hurting the playtest and exploration of the function of various archetypes within. sorry, my bad on the Will Points thing. Also, the wiki says you regain them each day, implying you regain them all. Either you or it is wrong, I don't know which. (It if I had to guess, but who knows)

Honestly, I am starting to regret agreeing to have pastebins of the campaign posted here for that reason. Every Saturday night and Sunday, the thread is filled with a peanut gallery of people weighing in on different characters and little, if any, discussion of the mechanics. And that's leaving out the bullshit between the players themselves. Pictured below:

Actually, a list of traits of That Guys:

That Guy never brings his own food, and always steals everyone else's.
That Guy always always does loud and bad imitations when he plays. K-Booom! Dakka-dakka-dakka! WAAAAAGH!
That Guy always smells bad and wears clothes that expose his overweight asscrack.
That Guy never shares his Cheetos, and he always gets orange dust all over everything. He doesn't clean his hands off before touching YOUR minis and books, either.
That Guy will always bring so much cheese to the table that the other players instantly become lactose intolerant and choke.
That Guy never bothers to learn the rules, but will happily crash play to a halt every single turn.
That Guy will exploit every loophole in the rules to his advantage or require an utterly anal level of rule following whenever it suits him.
That Guy will try to fight against the party and consider himself clever (because he's "winning"), but will ragequit when the party kills him.
That Guy always has to play his own homebrew race and class, both of which are horribly overpowered.
That Guy inserts his creepy fetishes into everything, and is the reason men are banned from playing women in your group.
That Guy has tendency to get really mad over nothing.
That Guy fires into melee combat without the proper feats and abilities.

I don't think Knightfag thinks the main problem about Music is you, it's just that it definitely seems unbalanced.
For example, there are powers that give a +6 to skills and other stuff, but they require an action AND a Will point to use, while Music gives a +4-6 bonus to ANYTHING for just an action.
It doesn't seem very fair, so sorry if you're taking offense to it, but the problem isn't you, it's the mechanics and bonuses of Music.

Kudos to Sverd for staying civil through all this dramashit and the (imo) totally unfounded attacks on his character. The playtest is supposed to be PLAYTESTING not high school locker rooms, and PLAYTESTING an archetype based off strong Disney tropes with a strong and somewhat common developmental arc is important. Now stop fucking talking about it and trying to fuck it up out of pointless spite.
>>
>>36768412
I think some of the criticisms of his character are valid, but he's definitely a necessary archetype needed to test the game.
>>
>>36768573
Right, except that the ones that are valid are an inseparable part of the archetype and planned aspects of the archetype(/character), and they're mostly planned on being raitionalized and eliminated via the Indian girl.
>>
>>36768672
One must remember that as Disney as this game is, the players have a social contract to not piss off the other players too much. Sverd has done a fine job so far, but a player being lolsorandumb can be very irritating to the other players.

I'm interested to seeing how this goes, because Runs-With-Coyotes is really not happy with Nicholas Hill at the moment.

The situation they're in right now is almost identical to Flyn Ryder/Rapunzel's in Tangled, substituting 'hidden valuable object' for 'lynchings by the group'. I would recommend watching the movie if you have not seen it for going about this. I wouldn't call this lolsorandum, that's for when a character just does whatever the player thinks would be sofahny at the moment regardless of their actual character. When there is a specific and defined pattern that is only occasionally broken in keeping with the character, it's not randumb.

Typically, lolsorandumb is used to refer to the actions of Chaotic Stupid rogues who justify things like stabbing the party paladin with "Well, I'm Chaotic, it's what my character would do" so saying that his fluff explains it doesn't necessarily keep it from being randumb. Nick is just a character who does randumb things, and that's what bothers the group.

Huh. The basic jist of it is:
>Ryder is a prettyboy backstabbing asshole thief used to getting his way
>steals a thing, betrays his two partners over it
>falls into rapunzels tower while running
>immediately fucks everything up, gets beaten over the head with a pot, loses valuable item, tied to chair by rapunzel
>rolls to seduce, nat 1
>rapunzel holds valuable item hostage in exchange for him guiding her into homeland
>does so begrudgingly
>defends her from various murderers along the way, still a thieving pretty boy asshole
>rapubzel starts falling for him
>they get to kingdom
>dance in square because they are happy
>romantic moment in boat with lights n shit
>drama with gothel
>Ryder proves he is no longer a thieving pretty boy asshole by risking own life to save her from evilguys
>get married
>he a king now
It's almost the same situation, except Ryder is even more of a selfish, immature asshole.
>>36769230
I agree on the first part, not the second. What has Nick done that's radumb besides throw flashpowder, which he had a specific reason for?
>>
>>36769325
well, there was starting a fight again while archer tried to put it to a stop, running into a camp full of bandits on his own to get their attention, and starting that fight in the bar.

all in character for nick of course.
>>
>>36769385
The first one was actually better OOC, reasoning with badguis is generally a recipe for disaster in Disney unless they're just good guys who look evil, which the bar villains weren't. Second one is only randumb by the definition of 'any non-logical act is randumb', just a brave and immature act typical of someone with no one reeling then in. Third is literally just advancing the plot.
I don't deny that these acts can be annoying- that's the point of pre-Coyote Nick, I think, much like Ryder, but they aren't randumb.
>>
>>36769490
The point is that by starting a fight after someone else successfully put a stop to it, Not!FlynnRider was rendering Arthur irrelevant and stopping him from carrying out any plan of his own. From an OOC perspective, that's a dick move. (Also, social strikes can be dealt without starting combat.)
For the second one, saying that being "a brave and immature act typical of someone with no one reeling then in" makes something not randumb makes no sense, that can very easily be totally and completely randumb.
Third, randumb actions can advance the plot.
>>
>>36769637
I mean, if you're looking at it like that stopping combat in itself was a dick move and 'randumb' since that plan was already in motion. Declaring restarting combat an OOC dick move is silly. I'm not even sure what randumb is supposed to mean anymore, if it's in-character and helping out the party, (even if attacking outright was a bad plan)what's even the issue?
>>
>>36769757
Well, it did completely invalidate Archers action.

Not to take sides. It worked out in the end, didn't it?
>>
>>36769757

Okay, so those errands took longer than I thought they would, but I'm back, full of fried chicken, and ready to dump the other half of this oneshot!

--

DownBeat struggled to push the desk off her body. “Cheap shot, that.”

“Yeah, well.” Noelle inhaled. “You kinda put us in a situation to fight dirty.”

“This won’t stop anything, you know.” DownBeat grinned. “I’m under Guild protection. Even if I get jailed, I’ll get released overnight. What do you heroes have, huh?”

“I don’t care if you’re protected by diplomatic immunity—you’re going behind bars.” Noelle crossed her arms.

“Listen—sweetcheeks?” Downbeat whipped her head back, wiping the dreads out of her face. “I like you. Not so much the big guy—no offense, guy.”

“None taken,” Bob harrumphed.

“Thank you. Point is, you’ve stopped nothing. I’ll be back on the streets by today next week, and I’ll probably be right back at this—that man on the stairwell is holding a grenade.”

“What?” Noelle cocked her eyebrow.

The room went white and all sound drowned out. Noelle wasn’t sure if she was screaming before what felt like a hard fist impacted her square in the back. She felt her arms seize up and her jaw clench involuntarily, like ice spreading down from her body to her fingertips. Bells were ringing.

She felt two large arms picking her up and setting her on her feet. The ringing in her ears gradually dissipated. “Did someone get the plates off that Explorer?” She heard her voice call out.

Then she noticed DownBeat was on her own two feet as well. “Those...those fucking fuckers!” Her arms were shaking. “They’re stealing the money I was gonna steal!”

“Well you’re not gonna catch ‘em by just standing there—c’mon!” Bob had ran past the two and was now bounding up the stairwell.

“Wait, Bob!” Noelle stretched out her hand. “We don’t even know where they’re—” Unfortunately, the aging Super still moved with surprising speed, and was far from earshot. “Aaagh, fuckdammit,” she cursed under her breath. She turned to the supervillian beside her. “I don’t suppose you have an idea of where these guys coulda—”

DownBeat nodded, smirking.

“Of course.” Noelle sighed. “Lead the way, Sparkles.”

“Gladly.” DownBeat extended a hand to the bank’s ceiling. A breakbeat drum fill sounded and a purple lance of energy shot a hole clean through the glass lining. “Try to keep up, darling~” The superhero activated her hoverpack shot upward and out the building.

This Hannah stuff makes me so happy. I'm her player, and I'm happy to tell a bit more about her.

Hannah Colinwell, child of the Collinwell Family.

The Colinwells are a noble house with a decent holding and a modest fortune, nowhere near Tremaine, or Gothel, of course. They've given proper tithes, and nodded and agreed with Her Fairness in all her wisdom. So they're accepted as 'proper' citizens.

The one, possibly magical, thing about the family, is that Port Wine Birthmarks are hereditary. Every person who has Colinwell blood, has one. Thus, they've never needed to scar themselves. In the Mirror Kingdom, Colinwells are considered to be decent people, if a bit stuck up about their looks.

Also, they have a horrific habit of word play. Puns are common as breathing, parents have special gibberish languages for their children, siblings learn to talk in code, and during holidays it's taboo for Colinwells to speak anything other than song lyrics. The Colinwells claim that this is to honor their family's founder, who was Her Fairness' first spymaster. This claim has never been confirmed or denied by the throne. Also, if Her Fairness, or a powerful noble, makes an appearance, you'll see the word play dry up in an instant and the Colinwell to turn into another of Her Majesty's nodding nobility. All in all, the Colinwells aren't bad people, they're just scared.

Hannah showed early talent for music, and her family nurtured that gift. Mostly because it was a sound investment. If Hannah could play the Royal Court, that would help their family move up in the world. So, she received private tutors, long lessons, and a well-made instrument that was crafted from actual Witchwood from the Fey Lands.

Hannah loved it. She took to it all with a passion, and joy. She even performed before the Nobility at a soiree, along with other children. But compared to children who were forced to play, Hannah showed skill and love for music.

“Yeah, you...do that.” Noelle’s voice trailed off, staring upwards through the hole. “Knew I shoulda sprung for the Jump Pack.”

“Cmon, get in!” The helicopter pilot frantically yelled into his comlink. “Those Supers kicked up bookoo police attention!”

“Two more bags and we’re set!” C yelled back. Strapped along his back was one a duffel filled to the brim with gold bullion. The last bag was being carried by W, several steps behind him and hefting along a duffel filled with unmarked bills. C could just taste the mimosas now; just a few months of lying low and the crew could live like kings.

“C, we’ve got company!” W’s voice buzzed in C’s ear. C turned to see his accomplicy pointing toward the roof access elevator doorway. His gaze followed the finger until his eyes met the charging form of a large ex-superhero about to bear down on them with all the force of an express freight train. He had heard stories about the “good old days” of superheroics; about nigh-invulnerable men and women with bizarre powers that today’s tech-based platforms merely shadow in comparison.

He decided to try his luck.

He pulled up his rifle, flipped the selector to “Focused Beam”, and squeezed the trigger. True to its word, a streak of blue-purple lightning arced out from the rifle, striking full force against the charging behemoth. W sprinted past him, breath ragged as he leapt onto the helicopter. ‘Good kid,’ he thought. He could hear the helicopter beginning to pull away from the roof. The spot of hope was short-lived, as C noticed that, quite disturbingly, his assault had merely slowed the man down. More pressing, however, was the observation that the rifle’s heatsinks were creeping dangerously close to redlining. He tossed the rifle aside, cocked his pistol, and continued to fire. Center-mass; double taps. He was staggering, but still kept marching. C frowned from behind his mask, holstering his pistol and bringing out his holdout weapon: a cut-down, short-barreled lightning shotgun he liked to call “Sweet Medicine”. He worked the pump, charging the gun, then overcharged it, working the pump three more times.

He waited until he could see the veins streaking from the oncoming train’s bloodshot eyes.

He waited until he could see smell the singed cotton and burning hair.

He roared in defiance and the world faded blue.

Woah hey guys! New to these threads! This looks like a really cool concept!

Zero chance of making peace between that dude Pond and Knightfag I guess.

I kinda played him as a sort of spry fellow, mostly serious, but also known to kid around a little. He's used to be one of Slims Rough Riders, but after a falling out, hes set off to bring frontier justice. Hes not particularly grumpy or grim as I recall, as I did kid around with NPCs and other PCs as I played him. He's less Rico, and more Davy Crockett.

Noelle had seen the final blast as she pulled herself up and over the side of the building. Years of parkour, GravLok boots and Atomo OmniGauntlets, and synthskin combat suit synergized perfectly. Bob was laid out on the ground, flat on his back and a smoky wisp trailing upward from his gut. Sparks were leaping across his twitching form. The man standing over Bob wore a very familiar pinstripe suit and crying clown mask. He was holding a stubby little shotgun to the superhero’s head.

What happened next was done nearly on impulse. Noelle took off at a dead spring, vaulting over an AC unit and hurling a radioactive bolt straight at the assailant’s gun. Her vision tunneled as she saw the piece of metal in the robber’s hands glow white and melt apart. She couldn’t hear the man yelp in pain as she slid under a trio of pipes and, continuing to carry the momentum, turned a vault over another AC unit into a hard left hook straight into the man’s ribcage. She smiled, feeling the bone shatter under her knuckles.

What she didn’t expect was that the momentum transferred would carry the man across the bank’s roof and topple over the side. She hissed as she heard the squelch of meat on stone steps. “Ooh.”

The fighting usually only sprouts up once every couple of threads. I just hope that Ponderous can keep his seething hatred for Knightfag and Sverd under wraps and stop trying to insert himself into Sverd's arc, that Knightfag can keep his OOC self out of the playtests, and that the group understands that they are playtesting, not running a normal game.

The sounds of police sirens from all directions soon became readily noticeable. She looked at Bob, still lying on the roof. She could just see police helicopters crossing over the bay. She knew she couldn’t have herself be discovered—not while trialling arms and armor for the largest bioengineering corporation on the West Coast, at least. She then looked down at her gauntlets.

“Oh, wait.” An idea hatched in her head. “Duh.”

“And that’s all you saw, Miss...?”

“Collins. Noelle Collins.” The girl swung her feet off the ambulance’s entrance. “The security cameras should back up my story—up until maybe the point they shot them out.” The police detective eyed the girl suspiciously. Noelle readjusted her glasses before looking back down. “Look—I don’t know how much longer you’ll need me for, but I’ll be happy to answer any other questions you might have.”

“We’ll see, Miss Collins. We’ll contact you in the future if we need anything else.” The detective offered a hand to the barista, who took it gratefully. “Sorry again that you got involved in this. Will you be needing a ride back home, Miss Collins?”

“I can take the bus just fine—thank you, though, Officer.” Noelle offered the man a tired smile before walking away. She ducked her way through lines of police tactical teams and forensics specialists toward a parked ambulance, back doors swung open wide. She smiled, bouncing up to the gurney waiting to be ramped into the back of the transport.

So, Hannah was picked to play for Her Fairness, and be prepared for her future as one of the lucky few that would sing, and praise, Queen Grimhilde and her beauty.

This is where our story turns, dear listeners. As our budding child star was then plucked from her loving, tricky-tongued, family and sent to Zwietracht Academy.

Zwietracht Academy...where Art goes to die. Any chosen child who has talent in poetry, painting, music, or just creating in general is sent there. There they learn the Law. There is no Art but the Queen's. There is no Beauty but the Queen's. The Queen's Truth is the Only Truth that needs to be shown. All works are meant to glorify Her Fairness. All Art is to be a reflection of Her. All artists must not only create, but THINK this way.

Cold showers in the middle of the night. Refusing to let people sleep. Refusing to let people relieve themselves. Constant lectures and indoctrination. Artists go into Zwietracht, what comes out is...another Mirror for Her Fairness.

Maybe it was her pure love for music. Maybe it was her mental fortitude due to living in a tongue-tied house. Maybe it was just the fact that Hannah is one of the most stubborn persons on earth. Whatever it was, Hannah didn't break.

She knew however, that if she didn't, they'd probably break her. Also, she LOATHED the food. Bland Porridge for breakfast, Bland Stew for Dinner. There was NEVER a change.

So, one night, she escaped. It wasn't some grand plan or adventure. She just put on some clothes, grabbed her instrument, and took off running. The Academy wasn't a Prison, and it's 'tutors' weren't the Mirrorguard. It was, admittedly, not a good plan...but Hannah was desperate.

She ran for the woods, and while she was able to lose her pursuers, she also got thoroughly lost herself. The night grew dark, darker in the woods...and then she saw a light.

Bob had certainly seen better days. All manner of straps, buckles, and fasteners secured him to the gurney. Gauze wrapped around his midsection and banded around his arms. A big red spot in the center of his chest was covered up with thick dressings, his neck held in place with a brace.

Noelle sidled up to the side of the gurney, offering the man a small wave. “Hey.” Bob motioned for her to get closer. She did.

“You did good, kid.” Bob’s voice crept out from between his lips.

“Thanks.” Noelle smiled. “Toldja you shouldn’t have taken those guys alone.” Bob softly chuckled, wincing at the pain radiating from his sides. “Sorry,” Noelle apologized.

“No, no, it’s fine.” Bob’s head shaking was restricted somewhat by the neckbrace. “I should be thanking you, if anything.”

“For what?”

For allowing this old man to relive a little bit of his glory days.” Bob attempted to sink further into the gurney’s mattress.

“It’s good to know there are still a few...Incredible...things out there in the world still.” Noelle placed a small hand over the larger one. “I’ll visit you in the hospital.”

Bob nodded stiffly. “I’ll hold you to it.”

The paramedics shooed the girl away before lifting the gurney into the back of the ambulance. Noelle watched the emergency vehicle speed off before digging into her hands into her pockets and drifting off in the general direction of the closest bus stop.

Thirty minutes later and two dollars fifty lighter, Noelle found herself at the brick front apartment she called home. Three minutes later and she found herself back in her studio apartment. She kicked off her shoes and no sooner than walking into the cordoned off “living room” did her body fall onto the sofa and her head into a pair of black thighs. “Well hullo to you too, No.” Kendra Mason, her roommate in the big city. “Rough day, shug? It’s a bit early for you to be back home.”

Noelle muffled a reply into the girl’s thighs.

“What now?”

Noelle turned her head to the side. “I said check the news.”

Kendra shrugged, grabbing the remote and switching to the local news channel.

“...Welcome back to KSF Crimewatch, coming to you live from San Fransokyo First National Bank, where there has been a bank robbery. Still no word on the whereabouts of the heisters, but eyewitness reports detail high-powered weaponry and, if that’s not surprising enough, superpowers being flung back and forth between the heisters and apparent vigilante superheroes. No word on casualties, but the police say they have taken one man into custody, and one apparent victim was airlifted to San Fransokyo Hospital in critical condition. Stay tuned to KSF for further developments as they come out, I’m Trudy Valderama.”

The black girl blinked, the tied back dreads on her half-shaved head shuffling she looked down to Noelle’s face. “Shiiit, you were in that mess?”

“Mmhmm.” Noelle nodded.

“Ohhh, poor baby.” The girl scratched Noelle’s head.

“Didn’t even get to deposit last week’s check.” Noelle sighed, tossing off her glasses onto the coffee table in front of the sofa. “I hate this city somedays.”

“Well how about this: we get some pizzas delivered, break out that IPA microbrew we found last week, and watch a couple terrible movies?”

Noelle smiled. “Can we get a pepperoni-mushroom-sausage?” The smile dissolved as she noticed the large bruise on Kendra’s right thigh. “And where the hell did that come from?”

“Yes we can.” Kendra laughed as she slid herself off the couch and Noelle’s head from her lap. “And that came from lacrosse practice—you’re coming to our game this weekend, right?”

“If work doesn’t get in the way, sure.” Noelle sat up on the couch, watching her friend step off into the cordoned-off “kitchen” area.

“Oh, by the way!” Kendra shouted.

“Yeah?” Noelle shouted back.

“Don’t be surprised if the apartment gets spruced up in the next couple of months!”

“You get a raise?”

“Look at you, Miss Big Spender.” Noelle grabbed a bottle from the paper carton, twisting off the top. “Getting all ‘Home Makeover’ up this bitch.”

I was more so thinking of appearance than personality when I mentioned that. I imagined him being kinda gangly and weathered, like someone who's been on the trail a lot.

Personality wise, I see him definitely as the most grounded character. It's not that he's super serious necessarily, it's just he's old enough to know what needs done, but not so old to already have given away all his fucks like Lazarus. He's got two kids, a dinosaur with delusions of grandeur and an off-the-hinge old man to wrangle into a single focused direction. He knows what needs to be done and does it, even if it makes him look bad (like "selling out" the team to the snakeshots, for example). He hasn't been in a position in the story where he can relax yet, but I imagine he has a sense of humor when he has time for it.

She headed towards it, and she discovered a small campfire. There a man in armor was sitting before it, cooking two pheasants. She, very courteously as befitting a lady, introduced herself.

(You ran up to me and begged me for my dinner!

Shut up! Who's telling this story?)

The good Sir Knight, who's name was Sverd, and hailed from fair Arendelle, was more than happy to allow such a fair maiden to share his fire and his food. Hannah, in turn, was delighted to grace the poor man's troubled soul with a song.

(Was this before or after your horrifically insensitive barrage of ice puns? And I can't think of ANY soul that gets soothed by that song about porcupines.

Once again, be quiet. Also, it's hedgehogs. Get it right. Which, by the by, had you on the ground rolling with laughter so hard that you cried, and then laughed again. I call that sooth!

That's not a word.

Shut up, or I'm doing the ear thing again!)

Thus, a true friendship was forged that night. Hannah Colinwell swore that she would be the loyal squire to Sir Knight, and he would protect her.

But she made a vow, that one day, she would return to Zwietracht Academy, and free it...then burn it to the ground. For one day, the beauty of Art will shine all across the Mirror Kingdom, so I swear upon my twisted tongue!

(Why is she tossing her head like that?

She's trying to get her hair to blow in the wind, Mary. Usually I just nod at this point. If you don't she'll start abusing us with bad puns about...I don't know...cabbages. Or worse, she'll start singing about them.

Grrr, Sir Knight! Let me show you what happens when you don't appreciate other people's stories!

OW!)

Awesome history, and I love how you framed it as a take being told by the character itself at the end. I hadn't been expecting that but it makes all the sense in the world give her character.

As the commissioner-anon and the compiler of the reference guide image, I tried to depict how she looked in my head after reading about her in the DTP in the Wild West story and the playtest logs, but it actually worried me that I didn't know who her original player was to consult about her!

"I cant't let you go!" She screamed. Her beloved was leaving her. This wasn't the first time, but it will be the last.
"You have to, it's the only way both of us can make it out of here." He replied, tears in his eyes.
"Remember Manhattan? Remember how happy we were?" She asked, barely believing what was going on.
"I'll always remember," he answered. "I love you, Miss Piggy."
And with that, he fell into the abyss. The last thing he heard was a scream from above. It was the scream of his love. She was screaming, "KEEERRRMMMIIIEEE!"

I think the reference guide is great. My only change is that her color motif should be Lavender and Silver.

Lavender to show that she's Mirror Kingdom Nobility, but not evil.

And Silver for Silver-Tongue (Of course.)

Love the long hair, but don't have it cover up any of her face. Hannah's proud of her Colinwell Mark, and thinks it makes her look pretty. (Which it does, but only in the Mirror Kingdom)

Feel free to go heavy on he birthmark, too. This isn't just 'oh half of her face is red.' This is 'even the most 'open' people will either do a double take, or stare at it.'

Most of all, you need to show her as brave. If she's playing music, then it should come through that this is what she loves to do more than anything in the world. However, when she isn't, Hannah is brave. She isn't stupid...but she'll walk right up to the Frozen Doors of Elsa's Palace and knock on the door and politely ask to come inside to perform.

Then when Elsa rebuffs her, she'll sit down on the steps of the castle and play anyway.

She'd bet Hades double or nothing for a chance to save Orpheus and Eurydice. (Then she'd charge people triple for their 'Comeback Concert.')

She smiles, laughs, and puns. She loves different food, and she loves music. She WILL help Sir Knight save his queen.

She's afraid of losing her voice, and it's more than just losing her ability to sing and play. Zwietracht Academy nearly broke her. She has nightmares about it. Sverd's woken up in the middle of the night to find her in the fetal position, weeping. She's seen the 'Royal Musicians' and their dead eyed gaze and fears that fate is still waiting for her. Mind control terrifies her. Her free will is precious to her beyond anything else. Which, naturally, causes her to do some stupid things.

Anything else to help flesh her out?

The word WIZARDS or some form of is hidden in some of my posts.

Magi totally didn't mean what I thought it meant. Shiiit

Thanks man, it's in the catalogue.

Think I'm going to write another piece tonight, though it'll be a surprise.
>>
>>36771842
She seems pretty well fleshed-out already. Damn fine job there, that's a solid goddamn character.
>>
>>36771842
All of this is great information and informs so much of what I've read about her already in the stories and logs. I'll make a note next to the dress annotation about color scheme right now, along with one about keeping her hair out of her face.

I'm also going to compile your description here along with the other characters' to make sure that their personalities and attitudes get conveyed. When I get this commission made I want all the DTP characters to be represented properly.

Speaking of which, do any of you know of any artists you'd recommend for this? I've got a few options in mind but would like to shop around.

Nah. I'll take any person's interpretation for Hannah. I'll certainly know when I 'see' her, but I'm open to anyone drawing her.

I agree with these guys, wonderful work.
>>36763706
By the way, real quick note on Sverd and the reference guide before I go to sleep- he's even blonder than in the drawing, think like white-blonde. His eyes are also a bit brighter, kinda like pic related. Other than that, totally perfect though. As I've said before, your work is absolutely marvelous, really - thanks for what you're doing.
>>
>>36763706
I think Hannah's eyes should probably be grey/silver.
>>
>>36772233
>you are now imagining Mary and Sverd having a contest to see who's hair is the brightest
>>
>>36772504
I just imagined an /int/ thread with Mary as Argentina trying to claim she was white and Sverd as Norway adamantly denying it.
>>
Hey guys, I think we should settle these two little details before we move onto the future splat.

Question 1) how is the future expansion going to fit in? Do we want it to be a separate time line, a mixture of the two, set after the first villains defeat, or do we act like they've ben here all along?

2)Who would we include? I can think of quite a few, and I'll post them after this post
>>
Commissioner-anon popping in one last time to say that I need to get on to bed seeing as it's past midnight and I have work tomorrow. I'll keep this thread up and add all the new notations as I continue to compile and look for a good commission-taking artist.

Please remember to archive this thread and start a new one when the time comes and thank you all for your fluff, crunch, stories and playtesting. Thanks also to our new artist for his fantastic contributions!

Good/day/morning all!

WELCOME WHIZZRAD FRIEND
I think a guy made some mage-ish powers after the Villain powers I made, I'll arch-dive for them in a bit

Also can someone tell me what you roll for a primary attribute when you're at Hero tier? 4d6 right?
>>
>>36773106
Hero is 5d6
>>
>>36773087
>Evil Emporor ZUUUURG (Buzz light year)

Essential.

>>36773087
Think that Turbo is in cybug mode for the Gridlocked expansion, though it'd be interesting to see him using a projection of his old King Candy persona for a wizard of Oz-type deal.
>>
On A roll is 4d6k3, hero is 5d6k3.
>>
>>36773189
>>36773318
Nope, you're both wrong. Read the wiki Jesus.
On a roll is 5d6k3 primary and 4d6k3 secondary, hero tier bumps both up by one. You get 4d6k3 at zero tier you idiots.
>>
>>36773087
If Xanatos goes in, I think Shego and Drakken could definitely find a spot, as well.
>>
>>36773087
>>36773492
We doing anything with Bill Sykes from Oliver and Company? Covert war between him and Xanatos would make New York a hazardous place.
>>
>>36773543
Well, why not, I say?

Quick suggestions of the Modern Setting alliances
Syndrome, Gantu, and Yokai are warring over the Pacific.
Bill Sykes and Xanatos both want the East Coast.
DOR-15 is... somewhere.
Drakken has taken over the flyover states and he feels deeply inadequate about this.
MCP wants to remove vidya and CLU wouldn't mind helping him, though he has his own plans.
AUTO is keeping the Axiom in space. Silver views it as being a great target.
>>
>>36773454
So is it 4d6 or 6d6k3?
>>
>>36773820
6d6k3
>>
>>36773784
Are we including Judge Doom and Toontown, or is that for a separate xpac?
>>
>>36774227
I thought we had a discussion about this, and it turns out 5d6k3->6d6k3 was less than 4d6k3->5d6k3 so we made it 4d6
>>
>>36774252

It was decided awhile ago that that Judge Doom was a tad too silly, and wasn't to be included.

Good morning Ladies, Gentlemen and Wizards!

Going to work on statting Queen La today while at work, and will be bumping the thread and starting a new one once it's time. I'm also going to check to see if the thread is archived, and archive it if it has not been already.
>>
>>36777128

The current thread has been archived, so please vote it up if you'd like to!

The debate was about whether or not when leveling up a player should have the choice between adding an unkept die to their primary and another stat OR adding an unkept die to two stats other than their primary. Thing is, the more unkept dice you're already using on a roll, the less effect on the average roll adding another will have, so the latter would provide a greater mechanical advantage. So we decided that it would be primary and a secondary.

>>36777863
And as long as I'm posting statistics stuff, here's some other stuff I did last night. Here, we see that rerolls are overall about as good as another unkept die; they're slightly worse for 3d6, but slightly better for 4d6k3, and every additional unkept die makes rerolls moreso the better option than another unkept die, if only slightly. However, also note that rerolls improve the average less when you have more unkept dice, so the worse you are at ana ttribute the bigger the mechanical advantage you'll gain from a reroll is.
>>
>>36777863
>>36778086
I don't have a head for stats, so thank you for this.

>>36778086
Furthermore, with the amount of dice you can roll in this game, a reroll will always shift the average up more than 1 but less than 2. In conclusion, unkept dice and rerolls aren't that powerful, as they shift the average less than a +2 bonus and suffer diminishing returns. However, they're still pretty good because they do something a linear bonus can never do: they skew the distribution curve in your favor, meaning you'll roll in the lower range less often and in the higher range more often, resulting in consistently higher rolls.

I'm not the greatest at it myself; I've been relying on the software at anydice for all this. One last chart you might want to see though is this one about how much better a kept die is than an unkept one.

>>36772233
Glanced at Nick, I don't think he's spent any lessons. Idle curiosity, saving up for an attribute increase?
>>
>>36777128

I'm not incredibly familiar with Queen La. Would you fellows say she's charismatic/smart?
>>
>>36778513
Charismatic/nimble. She's not smart , but she is fast.
>>
>>36778616
Thanks a lot! I've not seem the source material so I'm sort of forced to to off her KLR entry and what I've managed to pick up in the threads.
>>
>>36778670
Physically she's nimble but not that strong, and as far as magic goes she's a pushover. Her main things are her good looks, deception and her minions.
>>
>>36778733

Charming/Nimbke works then. I was debating her having a power to let her body jump, as I remember hearing that this was a part of her character. Like having her attempt to body jump into a player character who has no strikes left but while this is flavorful, I don't know think its a good idea.
>>
>>36778752
Only if you give characters a chance to "exorcise" her during combat. Else she could just jump to a player, let his comrades defeat him, jump again and repeat until she's in the only body left standing.
>>
Captain Hook needs more love.

Fucking sky pirates.
>>
>>36778863
That reminds me, did we even stat the Pirate Lords?
>>
>>36778752
>>36778836
IIRC, it only came up in one episode. Never watched the show, but I strongly suspect this is something she can't pull out on a whim for the cost of a will point; it would have to be planned and prepared for well in advance.
>>
>>36778863
>>36778876
Did we ever answer the crucial question of whether or not Captain Jack the Monkey is a Pirate Lord?
>>
One of us is going to have to create a new thread in ethos one falls down to the 7th page.

Also, as to a Queen La body swap, I would imagine that it would require all her will points, the target would have to be at 0 strikes and La herself would need to have only 1 strike remaining.
>>
>>36779088
I'll make us a new thread.
>>
>>36779591
NEW THREAD:

>>36779657
>>
>>36778752
If I remember correctly it occured after her 'death' and she initially was in the body of some random animal, perhaps La while weak cannot be traditionally 'killed' like most Villians, she'll just end up turning into a spirit and possessing something else. You need to find a way to contain her otherwise she'll just show up to harass them again or worse yet attempt to regain contol of Opar(or somewhere else)
