Lyle wipes the sweat from his brow as he looks at the mangled metal chunks jutting from his ship and curses under his breath. He kneels down to get a closer look at the damage, and is startled as a worker approaches with a large box gripped in its claws.
“Don’t sneak up on me you little-” The drone holds out the toolbox and Lyle grabs it in a huff. “Just go watch for more of those lunatics, these repairs will take a while.” The worker leaves, its clawed legs easily scaling the hull of the ship.

The team of workers has made slow but steady progress in excavating the strange fallen object at the bottom of the lake, and your drones have taken the captured native humans back to the Angel. Your flies have been combing the surrounding jungle, but have had little luck in finding the rest of the strange humans, although they have found numerous constructs. Totems of wood and vine inscribed with images and symbols, some with bones or other small tokens left at its base.

Hey guys i think we should research a way into making Thermobaric weapon.
They are basically highly explosive missiles that can do alot of damage and suck in air.

>Nanomachines
Based on the scattered notes and few remains of skyl technology, these microscopic biomechanical devices are capable of being programmed to fulfill a wide range of tasks.
[Smart Scabs – All drones heal from wounds in 1 day if within a hive and all subcapital ship damage is repaired in 1 day if given access to a pylon]
[Gray Goo – Excess nutrients can be processed into metals at a rate of 2N to 1M]
[Hive Creep – Hive infrastructure now spreads autonomously without the need for workers to cultivate or build]
[Overharvest – Hive infrastructure can now be ordered to supplement nutrient income by spreading and devouring the surrounding landscape. Growth and income peak at 50% planet consumption.]

>Grenade launcher
This simple yet effective weapon system contains two components, an explosive device that can fit in the hand or claw, and a tube that can launch it reliably at a distance. The grenade can be thrown, tossed, rolled, or simply placed as opposed to shot from the launcher if needed. The grenade deals explosive damage, as well as an additional damage type depending on the type of grenade.

New research unlocked

>Rapid nano-assembly
Fast
Advanced construction techniques utilizing nanomachine filled paste to bond materials together on a molecular level allows for the construction of ships and buildings at a much more rapid pace.

>Molecular disassembler warhead
Medium
This nanomachine filled warhead releases a cloud of semi organic disassemblers that quickly and voraciously feed on any and all available carbon or silicon based substances, reducing any and all sources of nutrients and metals into dust, which is used to construct more disassemblers. Each disassembler has a short lifespan, but with a rich enough target a chain reaction can be created with the potential to deal immense devastation to ships, station, and cities alike.

Medical nanomachines
Fast
Uses injectable nanomachines to assist in healing wounds or performing surgery, reducing the time required for medical procedures and allowing for far more advanced medical care in the field.

Current research

>Ultrasonic Sledgehammer
Slow
Designed to be used to breach doorways and walls, this fist-mounted device uses a burst of ultrasound to annihilate a physical object. While it is intended for use in demolition, it is frighteningly effective against live foes as well.

>White Crystal
Very slow
This strange crystal gives off a slight glow, and a sense of warmth. It seems to react to your presence, although you can’t be sure. Sending it through a series of tests may yield some level of understanding, or at the very least give you an idea of what it is.

>Skyl controller chip
Slow
This small chip in the Skyl skull sample seems to be of some great importance. It no longer shows any sign of activity, but a full battery of tests should reveal something as to its nature.

>Broken Crystal
Very slow
This black crystal seems to be suspended in time, as if it was a still image of shattering glass. It gives off no signals or emissions of any kind, not even reflections. It has no measurable weight or mass, and does not react to your efforts to contain it within your vaults. Until you can examine it with more scrutiny it has been sealed away deep underground.

>Drop pod
Medium
An aerodynamic heat shield equipped with a mixture of disposable retro rockets and airbrakes designed to allow a drone to survive being dropped from orbit to a planet bellow. Each pod is a single use, and is fired from a dedicated pod bay within the parent ship.

Laser cooling
Very Slow
This concept uses a laser to bounce particles in an object back into place, effectively nullifying the energy within the object, cooling it to potentially extreme temperatures at a distance.
>>
>>36766601
neat.
>>
>>36766543
>so thermobaric weapons are significantly more energetic than conventional condensed explosives of equal weight. Their reliance on atmospheric oxygen makes them unsuitable for use underwater, at high altitude, and in adverse weather. They do, however, cause considerably more destruction when used inside confined environments such as tunnels, caves, and bunkers - partly due to the sustained blast wave, and partly by consuming the available oxygen inside those confined spaces
So basically a good drone weapon that is useless for our space fights/underwater fight, unless we have a boarding party.

>>
>>36766728

Elizabeth sits in front of one of the white crystals, thinking ferociously at it. Your speaker stands beside her inquisitively.
"I'm trying to interact with it." She says. "I've taken the Skyl computer apart and know it inside and out at this point, and it leaves me with the theory that it's a method of communication between your species and theirs. Like a translator. I think the crystal is similar to those cubes they left around, but built to use your mental communication." She doesn't break her gaze from the crystal, and continues to think at it with an unwavering determination. Eventually she leans back in her seat and rubs her temples.
"I think I'm just giving myself a headache. From what I know of the terminal, it seems designed to use a similar signal as your drones, but it all seems focused on that port, which I can only assume is for a crystal." She picks up the small crystal and turns it in her hands, looking into the strange, flowing interior. "Your race and them seemed to have some kind of alliance at some point, so it would make sense for them to develop a way to talk more naturally. In fact, my guess is that my own condition was the result of either a perfected version, or some new prototype built along this same field of research."

She places the crystal back on its stand and gets up to pace the room. Her thoughts quickly loose focus and drift into various other ideas and unrelated theories as she crumples a small food wrapper and looks to your speaker. "That jerky was really good, where did you get it?"
Your speaker shrugs.

Apologies if I derailed your argument. Since cloning is such a time consuming and costly affair (it's taking our human clones 10 threads to reach maturity) I figured we would be better off in the long run using the freshest possible sample. The fresher the sample the lower the roll needs to be successful, and I figured we ought to be heading back to Reprieve and finishing what that shit roll stopped anyway.

But while I'm on the subject, are you sure now's a good time to be making new queens? If she's a clone, this gardener will lack any memories and experience of the original, so it'd be like laying a brand new queen. We're still trying to keep our existence discreet from everyone else right now, and sending infant queens to known planets in the expanse could jeopardize that. Might want to hold off on starting a new bloodline until we make ourselves known to the humans.

>>Send scouting party into Union Space

With our drones being shuttled off to the heart of Union Space, I'd like to propose starting up a dedicated espionage mission and scout out a few of their worlds in a little more depth. A good place to start would be the Eridanus System, being directly adjacent to both the Union's capital and the Valen's homeworld. Every world in this system is a sparcely populated (by Union standards) death world, making it easier to get drones in and out undetected, and are chock full of extreme and deadly wildlife, according to the pastebin.

http://pastebin.com/0SEZcPP6

I mean just look at this crazy shit:

>Huron: deep oceans filled with all manner of strange and terrifying creatures

>Corbin: home to strange and terrifying creatures that seem too different to be from the same planet

This is exactly what Hive could always use; new lifeforms whose bizarre features can be rapidly replicated as new drone adaptations, and these beasts sound exceedingly deadly. Plus, our bio ships are submersible in shallow waters, so we could send a scout corvette with our untested aquatic drones to Huron and have them sample the local fauna right under the local's noses. Almost literally.
>>
>>36767164
we dont want to clone the new queen, we want her DNA so that we can take her gene tech designs.

Even salvaging 10% of her terraform tech would be hugely beneficial.

>>
>>36767223

>>36767250

>>
>>36767250
that was mainly an example.
Terraforming also has millitary uses. e.g. changing the gas concentrations of a globe to unbreathable for the inhabiting foe, drastically limiting them and potentially killing many.

Not to mention: Lots of dead worlds around us. If we get strong, we could terraform them to our own personal biomes etc. Expanding the empire peacefully.
>>
>>36766951
"You trust it is safe to use?"
Elizabeth looks to your drone blankly for a moment before she regains her train of thought. "As much as I can, I mean, I'm still not sure if all this brain speak is safe, I could have a tumor the size of a fist right now, but that's the risk of research, isn't it?"
Your speaker chitters with concern. "If the risk is minimal, then perhaps it is worth an effort."

Almost immediately a spark erupts from the interior, and a holographic display wraps itself around the crystal, then unravels into a set of panels covered in symbols.
"Ha!" Elizabeth says with glee. "Keyboards, they weren't so different after all. Not very ergonomic, though.
The graphic wraps around in a set of loops that appears to require several sets of hands. Elizabeth moves her hands through them before returning to the crystal. "I wonder..." She focuses her mind on the device and pictures what she knows of the Skyl in her head. A moment later a holographic diagram of a Skyl body is displayed in the air. "Aha! I knew it!" She yells, and in her celebration the display disappears.

Several more displays appear, and you translate them with your knowledge of the Skyl language. As is usual in Skyl culture, they all have very dramatic and religious names and titles. You note with interest that their word for "research" translates directly as "Heresy".

Among the various displays are archives and data recordings, including a number that appear with no title but a small error report "cannot display perception."

Your speaker moves over to the device and you can sense an aura about it, as if it were a drone. You quickly command it and move through the various research notes. They are beamed to your mind even as they are displayed in the air, each page flashing by too fast to be seen.
"Hey, hold on, I'm interested in this too, you know!" Elizabeth says as the hologram blurs with passing data.

There are a number of experiment results, as well as partial designs. A great deal appears to be missing, or damaged.

New research options
>Psionic Cannon prototype - Detailed accounts of several experiments show the slow progress of Project Godsplitter. The cannon itself is highly volatile, and even the smallest miscalculation often results in the destruction of the ship, as well as any nearby craft. It can only be equipped to a Hive ship's spinal mount, and requires a functional Void Shard as ammunition. At least a dozen testing sizes were atomized in testing the weapon, and in the end it appears The Gardener never quite perfected it.

>Weather Spire - A specialty of The Gardener, which was apparently shared with the Skyl to solidify their alliance. It is a massive spire capable of analyzing and altering the atmospheric composition of a planet over time, as well as altering localized conditions to alter weather patterns.

In addition there are several notes left by the Skyl agent. There are several years worth of entries, many consisting of observations of the hive, and the Gardener's character.

Some research Ideas I'm posting here because 1d4chan hates my IP:

Tool: Gunsight
This tool is designed to improve the accuracy of weapon grafts. This growth takes the form of a spade shaped buckler that fits over a weapon graft to place an eye in line with the firng oraface. If the drone has improved acoustic or radio sences, apropriate sensors are added to the gunsight tool.
On lagre drones, weapon hardpoints are modified rather than arms.

Arm: Impailer Colony
Orbs of carbon-fluid tissue with chitin spikes floating in them replace the drone's arms. Standard drones sacrafice the ability to utalize weapon grafts in return for the carbon-fluid's capacity for explosive force to impale enemies of the hive.

Speacial Ship Weapon:
Directional Psionic Distruptor Amplifier
*requires advanced psionic distruptor organ
While we do not have the ability to overcome psionic disruptors,
we can direct the jamming signal in a cone. This 'weapon' directs the signal from an psionic disruptor into a narrow cone and passes it through a set of amplifiers to increase its range.
Although it can now miss a target, it can allso miss our own ships.
(this also might give us some insight into the psionic canon)

The Engram literally cannot use it, it can only be equipped to a Hive Ship--and also, you know, requires void shards. He's also an annoying rival for resources. The salvage he's taking could be used to build more hive fleets.

"Is the device recording?" You hear a speaker screech out the words. You recognize them, but it is the first time you have properly heard the Skyl language. It is a harsh one of chirps and shouts, and you see the speaker's trumpet like beak rattle with the volume of its statement. A short grunting howl is let out in return.
"Yes." The Skyl agent says, its limbs working over the holographic display.

Your view from the archive is in the center of the Gardener's throne room. Crystallized amber hangs from the ceiling, bouncing the light from above in all directions and sending it streaking down on the reflecting pool around you. The Gardener sits atop an immaculate carved slab of stone that has been painstakingly shaped to appear as the twisting, gnarled root structure of a local elder tree, bits of cast off carapace have been delicately shaped and woven into the knitted branches like leaves. A worker sits nearby with its blade unsheathed, and it slowly peels at the Gardener's carapace, pulling back thin layers that crackle and rattle as she moves like a rustling bush. In her claw is the white crystal, transmitting her perceptions to the recorder in the other room.

Her workers report the landing of the shuttle, and to her surprise and yours the White Queen emerges atop a row of light gray workers. The workers manning the fields above can see her Hive ship clearly in the sky, the countless tiny dots of her armada casting a light shadow over the land. They mingle along the edges of the Gardener's own picket fleet, dwarfing it in size.

The bark covered warriors of the Gardner's personal guard lead your mother to the throne room itself. She looks about with her own eyes stoically. "Beautiful as always, sister."

"Why are you here?" The question is twofold, the obvious matter of why the White Queen would call upon the Gardener, and the more interesting question of why she would deem it necessary to actually speak in person.

"I am leaving." She says in response. "I would hope you would join me."

"Now, of all times? After we have finally developed a weapon to truly stop them? You would abandon our sisters, our new allies and our new homes?" There is a sing of betrayal, and bitterness in the thoughts.

"They are all already lost." Your mother thinks coldly to the Gardener. "As such they no longer matter."

A quick glance is given to the Skyl nearby. It sits in the same spot behind the console, ignorant of the conversation's subject matter but apparently well aware of the growing tension. It slowly backs through a door to the small living space beyond, and the Gardener turns back to face your Mother.

"You think I would abandon my garden so easily? That I have so little hope in what we have learned and accomplished?"

"Vanity and hope will not help you or them."

The Gardener lets out a verbal hiss in anger. "And your pride will be your own! Just as it was to the Old Mothers! Me and my children will stand and fight with our new allies, and you can freeze in the depths of oblivion!"

Your Mother simply sits there, her white figure ghostly in the light of the throne room. "Very well." She finally says. "But one final word. Do not trust the Black Queen's line, her knowledge is dangerous, and will do more harm then good."

"And your own is not? She at least has offered to help, not flee after our first real victory." A pair of warriors step forward. They make no show of threat, but it is a rude and obvious display. Your Mother's workers carry her away and back to her shuttle. As the lookouts watch her armada blink away the Gardner simmers in her throne, her mind going over fleet strength and ship numbers.

"There will not be enough."

The image flickers as the recording stops. The Gardener turns her attention to other matters and the senses of the archive pick up only small details. Pods are sent to distant hives, each with messages for distant queens. The Yellow Queen, the Gray Queen, the Shaper, the Nomad, the Spotted Queen, the Builder, and the Black Queen. A moment later ships begin to blink into orbit, not all of the Queens posses a Hive ship, but the sky quickly darkens with their respective fleets.

The shuttles touch down and the emissaries of dozens of queens emerge. The Gardener stuffs the crystal in her claw into the crevasses of her throne and the archive ends, although it appears there are several others.

The meetings have ended. The emissaries remain stuffed in the meeting hall where they shall remain as a quick method of communication. The memories of the events are still fresh in the Gardener's mind, and flickers of it filter through to the recording. With the White Queen gone, the Gardener has become the leader of their empire. The notion had caused panic among many. Scouting pods had been sent, and it was confirmed that every world of the White Queen's was left empty. Its hives devoid of life, and their picket fleets missing. Despite the magnitude of the situation, the debate quickly centered on who would take the newly abandoned worlds. Several skirmishes break out in their orbits as a dozen egg layers are sent hurdling into their atmospheres.

It is the Black Queen that quelled the commotion.

"The matter is pointless. Only one weapon matters at this point, and it must be given priority over all else." Her effigy is a black obelisk of chitin covered in eyes and twitching claws. The workers carrying it each a sleek black beetle with barbed limbs linked into the base of the obelisk like shackles.

The Gardener thinks nervously for a moment before her own effigy speaks. It may not have been necessary with them all in her own hive, but it was considered polite custom. The small tree wreaths in its place, the leaves and blossoms of specially mutated eyes and limbs wave in a simulated breeze. "Testing has spent much of our reserves. We will require more samples to continue."

The Black Queen responds simply. "I will provide them.

"How can we trust these creatures and their ideas? This device has never been able to function, why do they think they can help to solve it?" The Nomad's effigy teeters on a carefully balanced leg, its upper body consisting of a central sphere of chitin attached to another that spins slowly on a rotating joint like a moon orbiting a world.

The Builder's scaffold-like effigy twitches in response. "The Old Queens died to free them, would you dismiss the trust they placed in them so quickly?"

The Gray Queen's shifting blob responds. "It was their misguided ways that brought us to the brink of extinction! I place no trust in their judgment."

The room erupts again. Artillery fire rains down on closing warrior formations on several distant worlds as the opportunistic lesser queens fight over the empty worlds your Mother left behind.

"They show promise, and we will tend to them as they help us, it is the only option we have!" The Gardener manages to silence the room, although the warfare continues across a dozen worlds. Several cruisers, the largest some of the minor queens posses, open fire on the temporary bases as the egg layers desperately attempt to secure a bomb shelter.

"Then I will continue to provide resources." The Black Queen says, and the effigies grow still as the queens place their attention to other things, the matter settled.

It is several weeks later that the Black Queen sends a new thought. A shipment has been prepared, and something new has been developed and is ready for testing.

"What have you developed?" The Gardner asks as the Black Queen's Hive ship drifts into a closer orbit. A number of shuttles drift down to the surface.

There is no response.

The shuttles touch down, and as they slowly open warriors march out, their black armored shells like glassy marble, blasted with radiation and baked with heat like black porcelain. Their joints creak as they slide over one another like grating metal. Of of the shuttles contains an object, like an effigy but larger and rounder. It's black surface cracks as the warriors drop it to the ground and it swells up from within, the thin membrane revealing a gnarled object held within like a cage.
It is an effigy, a relay apparently salvaged from long forgotten meeting hall.

The pain is agonizing, even through the recording. The orbiting ships open fire, sweeping the picket fleet aside in a single volley. The drones drop where they are, twitching in agony and confusion, and the Gardener rocks to the side, breaking the fragile branches of her throne as she collapses to the floor under her own weight. The warriors continue to march through the hive to the meeting hall, where the drones quickly take the effigies and drag them away. The Builder's detonates as it leaves the room, coating the black warriors in acid, although they seem unaffected.

The Gardener twitches in pain on the floor of the throne room, the small crystal dropping from her grasp. The vision blurs as the Gardener reaches for it in desperation. A squawking is heard behind her as the warriors drag out the Skyl agent. The burst of several thorn launchers followed by silence. You only see the crystal as the Gardener reaches out for it, her grasp only inches away as her vision fades. The archive stutters to static as either the life leaves her or the mental connection with the crystal fades. You are unsure which happens first.

As you bring your attention back to the hive you see Elizabeth looking at your speaker, visibly worried.

And it acted as a psionic jammer? But the Black Queen's warriors remained alive. Did she develop a counter to jamming, or had she independently discovered quantum brain adaptation equivalents?

Also this explains why it seemed like a hive weapon killed the Skyl. Duh. It wasn't the Gardener turning on him or vice versa. That was an early hint that there was a Queen on the enemy side.

The effigies were clearly only just sent to the Gardener's place when Gardener assumed the position of eldest after White Queen left.

Logically, before that, they weren't at the Gardener's place.

>So the White Queen, being the eldest queen at the time, wouldn't have or need one, since they're at her hive.

>>
>>36771097
Yeah QD mentioned that if we had any daughters they would likely be loyal to us and our decisions but fight actual open conflicts between themselves over territory and resources. War is a very casual affair for a hive queen, it seems.
>>
>>36771152
>>36771097
It's because drones are so disposable. War is a much bigger deal for other races because they put so much more value in the people actually going to go fight them.

Your speaker explains the situation and Elizabeth slumps in her seat. "I'm sorry to hear that. I'm not sure what would be worse, being the last of my kind, or having the only other trying to kill me."

"The hive grows regardless." Your speaker says, Elizabeth gives a wary smile. "Well that's good, but you should be careful. We should be careful, one way or another, I have a feeling this war will be coming to a close soon."

Your speaker clacks its mandibles in agreement.

The lights hum within their metal cages as your speaker stairs into the blank eye of the security camera. It has remained still and silent since it was dropped into the small room, and your flies have done their best to infiltrate the base. A man looks board on the other side of tinted glass, your fly sitting in the air vent behind him as he drifts in and out of sleep with a set of headphones over his ears and a number of recording equipment set up around him.

Not far away, your workers sit in a sealed and reinforced chamber. A similar glass wall separates them and a small lab. A small corporate logo in the corner of both windows read "Hammer-tech™ Transparasteel©"

The workers move to the walls and seem to sniff at them, then they gnaw on the metal, their mandibles sliding back and forth against the smooth reinforced walls. One of them reaches the window, and the others quickly follow suit until they are all clawing and gnawing on the transparasteel, their open jaws grinding on the window in front of the researchers. One of them takes a quick photo and the workers all drop to the ground.
"Shit, are they alright?"

One of them leaps back to its feet, and the others quickly claw their way back up and they resume their attempts to eat the room from the inside out. Several small grates are torn at in an effort to find a weak point, but it remains sturdy. Despite this, scratch marks and dimples begin to appear along the walls, and the researchers show some concern. Eventually a small door opens and what appears to be a foam lever emerges from the opening.

The workers drop to the floor as the lights cut out and lie still on their backs, their legs curled in the air. After a moment the lights flicker back on, and your workers slowly get back up. They wander in confusion before returning to their clawing and chewing on the walls. A researcher sighs and writes out another note on his clipboard.

"Ok, lets just move on with the next test." A researcher pulls a small lever and a pile of a dozen metal blocks, each half a meter in size falls from a hole in the ceiling into a pile in the corner of the room. The foam pole retracts into the floor.

Also how exactly do people plan to make a human effigy out of half meter blocks?

This is cool, maybe make a human effigy, then stare at it. When the next stage of the experiment happens... we knock down the effigy brutally, then fall down as if the lights go out.

Let's see how the scientists interpret THAT.

Several of the workers sift through the piles of blocks, and the researchers lean forward. A worker begins pushing a block around the room with its head before crawling on top of it, several others do the same and your drones claw at the ceiling, clacking their mandibles at the light fixtures just out of reach.

The researchers sigh again as they take their notes, and the door behind them opens. Killinger walks through and checks his watch. "How goes things, gentlemen?"

"Not all that good. We didn't get a single bite on the gauge, so still no telling what their bite is. The best reaction we seem to get from them is having them fall over, and they have been chewing on the walls since they got in there."

A worker has two boxes stacked on top of each other. It stairs at them for a long while before slapping the top block away. A researcher drops his head in his hands.

"I once had a cat that clawed on the furniture. You just need to know how to deal with animals." Killinger walks up to the glass where a worker's face is pressed against it, scrapping its mandibles on the transparasteel.

"How did you manage that, sir?"

Killinger lifts a small plastic case and hits a small button. "I got rid of it." He says. A white gas erupts from the walls and sends your workers sprawling away from the glass in pain. Conrad turns to the researchers as he straightens his tie. "A roach can chew through anything if you give it enough time. That's what the gas is for." He walks to the door, and without looking back says "I have a campaign to win, I expect your report by the end of the week."

A static thump from the microphone fills the small room with static as your speaker sits perfectly still. A familiar voice comes through as the glass changes tint with a groan.
"Hello. Do you remember me?"
Adam Seiner sits in the window. You manage the first good look at his face since you saw him in person from within his suit. Bunker Buster is not the same as Thermobaric. Bunker Bustr bombs have a pointed and hardened tip and a time delay fuse. It hits and lights the fuses, then the bomb penatrates with kinetic impact alone, then the fuse hits the high explosive charge and produces an explosion inside the target which confines the pressure, allowing it to build up to levels MUCH higher than an unconfined explosion. The resulting pressure completely disintegrates the target. Thermobaric weapons detonate a dispersing charge immediately on impact that destroys the bomb case (which destroys its aerodynamic shape and penetrating capability) and spreads into a mist (or even vaporizes) a highly flammable liquid. A timed fuse is also lit at the moment of impact, which is precisely set to reach a fuel ignition charge at the right time. This time is when the fuel is dispersed to the ideal concentration for most efficient burning with the oxygen in the air. When the proper fuel air ratio mixture is lit, the resulting burn is a reaction the proceeds at DETONATION (supersonic) speed! This creates first a massively powerful outward blast as that sudden burst of heat and pressure violently expels air in a powerful shockwave. Also, since the reaction is based on burning, It consumes all the oxygen in the region creating a partial vacuum. While the air in any explosive shock wave has a positive-pressure front side and negative-pressure backside , with this partial vacuume forming due to burning oxygen, also because of the burning It actually will rip an object apart as a result. This means buildings and people are devastated. Thus Thermobaric bombs are great cave-buster bombs. However they are TERRIBLE bunker busters, as they don't have good penetrating power to hit underground targets through penetration.
>>
>>36773289
Again, we hive race. Fantastic morale, perfect coordination with each other, and all for cheap. Our enemies come up with anti infantry weapons to use against us. We should be spending research into faster mobility and stealth like proper Zerg.

"You do not know where Lee is? How is this possible?"

Seiner jots down a quick note and shows a hint of a smile. "Lee isn't here right now, he's far away, and very busy. I can serve as the speaker instead."

"Why is Seiner not in the same room as the speaker?"

"For safety reasons."

"Speaking is not dangerous, why would the Seiner fear a speaker?"

He opens his mouth for a moment, then hesitates. In the brief pause your speaker continues its barrage of questions.

"What is a sein? The speaker met one that Jeffs before this. The speaker things it was not good at Jeffing, as it did not know how to say what Jeffing was and was upset at speaking about Jeffing. The speaker thinks it was because the Jeffery was too round to Jeff properly, like their warriors were to squishy and leaky."

Seiner looks through several notes. "Ah, yes, you gave them quite a scare with that."

"Does this mean Seining requires a fuzzy face?"

Seiner closes his note book. "Well, actually humans have names, they don't indicate jobs, but signify individuals."

Your speaker continues on without pausing for an answer. "The Jeffer's boxes were bad as well. Too bouncy and shaking. The transport of workers is very bad in this hive."

"Well I'm sorry to-"

"The humans are also very bad at keeping the hive's workers cool, and thinks the humans should not try anymore. You are very bad at it."

"I'm sorry I don't think I follow-"

"The humans also are very bad at making hives. this hive is boxy and gray. It looks bad and is made of bad shapes that waste space. Red would be better." There is finally a pause. "Why does seining need a fuzzy face?"

Seiner appears to be laughing, grinning ear to ear, although the microphone remains muted. He quickly begins writing furiously in his note book. He finally presses the button again. "You are very good at speaking, I must say."

"Seiner is better at speaking then the Jeffery, but not as good as the Lee."

"It's called a beard, and most humans shave it. I haven't had the pleasure as I have been quite busy lately."

"When will nutrients be provided?"

Seiner shakes his pen, keeping his eyes on your drone. "Well if you would let us know what it is that you eat, we would be more then happy to-"

"Who is the human queen?"

Seiner taps his pen on the table and it hops back into his hand. He interrupts your speaker's next barrage of questions with a ping of static from his intercom. "Sorry, could you repeat that? Did you ask who the human queen was?"

"Yes."

He writes down a number of things in his notebook. "That's interesting. I think that's the first time you've used such personal language. I suppose the closest thing we have to that would be a human by the name of DuPont." He stifles a laugh. "But she's not important at the moment. Why don't you tell me about your queen? I understand Lee spoke with... her? It? How about we talk about that?"

A researcher walks into the room and leans in. Seiner mutes the microphone. Your fly listens closely.
"The others stopped moving."

Seiner gives him a worried look. "Are they dead?"

"No, they just froze up, as if they just turned off. They won't respond to stimuli."

Seiner almost immediately gets up, ignoring the speaker, and reaches for a notepad. It's the same one the researchers studying the workers were writing in.

"Get me a full spectrograph, right now. I want to have a reading on every possible signal between this room and the containment room."

The researcher leaves the room and the door slides shut behind him. Seiner moves back to the chair.

A hive can't reproduce without a queen, it doesn't follow that all drones drop into a coma and cease to be a threat without a queen, which is a great deal worse of a weakness.

Nigger, I was referring to the;

bit.
If they know we reproduce like ants, that's fine. They probably would've figured it out anyway, but to say that Queenie is the head honcho, and nobody else is really good at making decisions is going to turn their pupils to dollar signs.

If they think our dudes are all individuals (more or less), and can thus think for themselves (more or less) they may be less inclined to try and enslave us.
>>
>>36774679
I'm not sure which, but one of the hive species, bees or something, if their queen is injured in anyway the workers tear apart the queen or something and get a new one.
>>

>>
>>36774679
Ideally the point is we undermine that assumption.
Because if our meaning of Hive and Queen and their relations isn't the same as their understanding of such, then they can't rely on it. In the sense that we're misinforming them, they aren't supposed to find out that we're psionically linked.
>>
>>36774728
We are the queen. If queen dies we die. Quest over. We could have other queens and they might get a mention in the epilogue but that's it for us.

Simple one would be the retrieval and activation of a queen egg that was previously in stasis. Would be quest end, but it makes sense for the queen as an individual.

"The juveniles?"

"The... what?"

"Does Seiner speak of the juveniles brought with the speaker?"

"Well, sure. Are you communicating with them now? Are they communicating with you?"

Your speaker does its best to seem nervous, and looks about in confusion. "This speaker does not understand, has it been rude or unclear? That is not good for a speaker. This one will be recycled if it has transgressed."

"No no! You're a good speaker, humans are bad listeners! Now please just help me figure this out, are the other drones in communication with you?"

"Workers to not speak. Speakers speak. This one is a speaker, not a worker."

Seiner appears to be growing frustrated. A researcher returns with a small tablet and whispers away from the microphone. "We aren't detecting any signals to or from either of them." Seiner wrenches the tablet from the lab tech and sends it across the room. He leans over the mic again.

"Ok." He says, his patience clearly waning. "Earlier you said we 'cooled' your workers. Not net minuets before that someone triggered a super-cooled nitrogen spray in the containment chamber, where your workers are. How did you know that?"

What's it matter to us if our drones are working in human zones or in our hives? If the humans can provide the nutrients to support it, it literally costs us nothing. "You attacked the juveniles?"

"Just answer the question! How did you know?"

"You told us." Your speaker chitters innocently as Seiner's face becomes red. "Does the Seiner require cooling?" It continues.

Seiner sends a mug flying across the room in a rage and it shatters on the wall. A small robotic mop quickly emerges from a small alcove and starts to clean the mess.

"Unlike humans" your speaker says as Seiner paces "the speaker is also a good listener. Why did the humans bring us here?"

Seiner gazes down at the speaker for a moment before turning to a worried looking researcher.

"Is something wrong? What happened?" She asks. Seiner shifts his gaze to her.

"I didn't jump through political hoops just to be led in circles by a bug. We're opening one up."

The researcher glances at the speaker and then back. "I'll have the operating room prep for surgery." She says, and then leaves. Seiner gives your speaker another long look, and then leaves the room. The door slams behind him.

>Thermal Blade
Medium
This dull loop of carefully crafted polymer quickly heats itself to deadly temperatures when exposed to an electrical current from within its gauntlet, quickly turning it from a blunt instrument to a deadly blade capable of burning through all manner of armor.

>Flak Jacket
Fast
During the disassembly of Lyle's suit, you found an interesting layer of dense fibers that are extraordinarily resilient to kinetic damage. You have it set aside to have your thinkers take a closer look at it later.

>Thermal Imaging
Medium
This compact visor display built into the helmet of Lyle's suit is capable of detecting heat, turning it into a color-coded display to highlight sources of thermal energy. It is blinded in extreme temperatures, and can be tricked in certain situations by ambiant heat, but when used in conjunction with other sensors it offers a powerful method of detecting and tracking a target.

>Acid spray
Fast
Using similar methods as your chemical spray, your thinkers believe they can easily develop a new kind of nozzle capable of spraying the caustic acid used in your self-destruction organs to spew molecular acid instead of reactive exothermal chemicals. Such a spray would quickly burn through armor and flesh alike, dealing tremendous amounts of damage to soft targets and reducing the effectiveness of a target’s armor.

add research:
>>Rapid nano-assembly.

Lay 20 Large film Harvesters

Send space pods with egg layer and bio tanks.

>>

For sending to Earth I can get behind underwater workers and some warriors but let's not colonize

Research
>Rapid nano-assembly

Lay more thinkers

Can we research away around that jamming thing we found? That's kinda crippling to us.
>>
>>36775265

Lay 60 aquatic workers, and 20 parasites, for future contingencies if we need them suddenly. Send all aquatic workers, plus 5 bio-tanks. Construct 20 orbital docking pylons at the sunless nebula waystation planet.
>>
>>36775265
>Add research
That weather control thing.
>>
>>36775359
theromobaric missiles would be fine on the ground against infantry and armor, against space targets it will prove to be very ineffective. I do think we should capitalize on the nanotech though over more biological advancements that do not allow us the ability to integrate organics to synthetics, I mean imagine if we could make special assault drones who are synthetic organic nanite disassembler cloud spewing monsters with the ability to regen like nanites in bug form!
>>
>>36775365
Could we further research telepathic jamming with our new thinkers?

With them being autisic AND eager to please, they should come to the conclusion that Queen would want to be immune.

theromobaric missiles are mostly ground and inside ship weapons, its major weakness is space and almost space.
I have a feeling that the nano missiles might be expensive or dangerous to carry.

yeah but I would imagine a nanite loaded missile fired fro ma ship or the missile battery would deal ludicrous amounts of damage, however I do agree it would be dangerous IF FIRED IN OUR ORBIT or near our ships...BUT hey whats science without risk yes? Lets fist research the potential to use them as weapons then we can figure out how to deal with friendly fire.
>>
>>36775501
send egg layer
>>
You know, I bet we could reasonably set up a human cult around us if we wanted. Especially with that gene therapy. Because at that point we're basically offering them immortality along with a host of other upgrades if they're good. Not to even mention parasites and clones.

We're not establishing a colony in the middle of a Union system with frequent traffic and a solid military presense.
>>
>>36775501
I dont think this is a good idea just yet, not till we can sneak 1 down there and cloak the ground installations with methods of spoofing sight and scanners from finding the outpost.

Setting up the next thread now. Everybody take 5, smoke 'em if ya got 'em.

I'm just saying we could if we wanted. Could be a method of control humans. The Jury is still out on if we want to use them as meat shields. I mean, more guns can never hurt, yeah?

nah fuck with them first.

Didn't read the thread yet, just got in but we've got to start those three research subjects, they're fast/medium and give great bonuses.

Let's start with blowing up the drone they try to cut open.

And then turning the spook dial up to 11.
