While we all wait for Elena and the others to show up so we can leave, those of us who actually got here early seem to gravitate into two groups. On one side, Luciana, Takamaru and Citrine are on one side, while Sylvie, her sisters, Nicolette and Melanie are on the other. I guess these separations are because Sylvie wants nothing to do with Luciana... though this is sure to complicate things whenever the hell Elena gets here.

"So is this going to be the seating arrangement for when we leave?" Emilio asks.
"Uh, what?" I turn to him.
"There's too many of us to fit in one carriage, I mean," he says, shrugging. "And since everyone's already divided up like this I just assumed..."
"Oh," I nod. "I get it. Two groups, two carriages..."
"And we're the only ones who haven't already been sorted out."

Huh, he's right. While everyone else carries on their own conversations, we're just kind of standing off to the side not really interacting with anyone.

"Maybe we should pick who we're going to be riding with too," Emilio says.
"Fine," I shrug. "Which one, then?"
"I dunno, it doesn't matter to me either way," he replies.

Great, now he's sticking me with the decision.

You guys are focusing on the wrong aspect by looking at the blood component. The important bit is that the crystals we're converted from /crystal/ to /metal/. Specifically, the metal of Volker's sword, which was pretty high quality steel and probably had some magical capacity to resist damage. That probably increased the parasite's magic capacity and it's resistance to damage from overloading. Still not going to get you a sealed king, but it could be a more "evolved" novel subspecies of the parasites.
